hi here to distract u: rewatching s2 the other day i noticed on the very first shot we see of tina’s party, right before they show the keg stand, on the left side of the screen is a van that has the same coloring/style of eddie’s and then a cloud of smoke comes out of the door alongside an obvious stoner. i’m positive the duffers didn’t do that on purpose but i don’t care i’m claiming it as canon that eddie was at that halloween party when steve and billy first met

Listen!! The Duffers for sure didn’t do this on purpose because their continuity game is frankly terrible. I don’t think that two dudes who can’t remember their main character’s birthday are the types to plant a breakout character two seasons early. But!!! It’s so fun to think of Eddie existing in the background in the early seasons, and while he’s marked as a school outcast he’s also a known dealer and likely would have crashed any local parties he could, especially at the rich kids’ houses, to make bank.

So, yes, I’ll totally buy that Eddie was there selling out of his van, probably chilling outside and letting people come to him. And Billy, anxious and exhausted from performing for all of these new people, from scaling the social hierarchy, absolutely stumbled outside for some air and caught Eddie’s eye. And Eddie absolutely offered him something to take the edge off, and Billy accepted, spent the latter half of the night hiding out in the back of the fan, smoking, shooting the shit. Eddie puts on some music and is surprised to see Billy murmuring the words. He quizzes Billy on his metal knowledge, gets a full history of all the weekends Billy spend sneaking out of the house to hit the local clubs, pries all the details of all the shows Billy got to see. Soon enough, Billy excuses himself, complaining that he has to pick up his kid sister, get her home before curfew. They part ways knowing that they’ll ignore each other at school on Monday, pretend that this never happened, but they’re both at the next party, and the one after that, and Billy always finds Eddie before the night wraps up, stays a while, smokes with him, drinks with him, dissects new albums with him, drunkenly tells him about the girls who eye him like candy and the boy he wishes would just fucking look at him. It doesn’t take Eddie long to realize that he’s talking about Steve Harrington, the very prick Billy has dethroned. And Eddie is shameless. Plays matchmaker. Maybe inserts himself a bit, for shits and giggles, just to see what might happen. Might as well shoot his shot with the pretty boy who wanders into his van and smokes all his weed and fights with him over the best Metallica album.

technically this is a bit early but whatever, it's spooky season!

last year i did 'reverse trick-or-treat' where i dropped some art of billy in different halloween costumes in the asks of some mututals and blogs i followed in the billy/harringrove community. i wanted to do that sort of thing again this year, especially since there has been such an amazing increase of fandom positivity, mainly led by @intothedysphoria who we all love.
