Centre will recruit 38,800 teachers in next 3 years | Mint Primer | Budget 2023 | Mint
The overall percentage of children going to government schools is about 51 per cent (UDISE) in the country. Still, the number of children in rural geographies going to Government schools is over 80 percent. Although previous studies have shown that learning loss and below grade appropriate learning issues predate the pandemic, the problem has been acerbated by children being out of brick-and-mortar schools and the digital divide that came to the fore when classes went online.

"Mrs. Bennet is the only one taking the situation seriously!"
No.
Mrs. Bennet had 20 years to prepare her daughters for marriage but decided to bank on looks and slutty lively temper alone. She's running around like a chicken with it's head cut off because Jane is nearly 23 and it's finally hit her that 4 or 5 men with £2000-4000/year aren't going to fall from the sky to marry her daughters. Or in other words:
there certainly are not so many men of large fortune in the world as there are pretty women to deserve them. -Mansfield Park, Ch 1
She's a student cramming for an exam and yelling at her classmate for not forcing her to study sooner. The deadline is bearing down but she hadn't started the group project until the night before. She had 1 job and she hasn't done it and now she's making it everyone else's problem... in no way does this count as "taking the situation seriously"
(And yes, her project partner is useless too, it's an overall failure)

Are we gonna see you on Tumblr more often, since the ban for TikTok might be going out?
mmmmmmmm
I really hate thinking about it but i suppose yes.
I think ill have to focus on posting to youtube i guess....since i can still make monetizable money over there....and ill probably have to push my patreon more-
Hey maybe ill be able to make designs for my redbubble and- work on Tiny Tails more hah....ah....
yeah.....work.......that'll distract me from such a volatile ban of freedom of speech......

Order Forty Eight
“Uhhhhhhhhhh can I get uhhhhhhhhhh–”
They hated their day job. Hated it. Hated it.
As a hero, they weren’t sure if they were meant to hate things, but they were sure an exception could be made.
Particularly, the exception was for Wednesdays.
This customer came in, this same one, who, if it was busy, took their sweet time, and would always end up with the same garbage burger and garbage fries, holding up the line and wasting time.
And, on slow days, if there were no particular person to piss off other than the hero, well, a similar scenario would take place, one just as annoying.
Though, it was somewhat endearing, the monotone of it all. Every Wednesday, this was a constant the hero could rely on, if not an irritating one.
“Can I get uhhhhhhhhhhhh your number?” They asked the hero with that award winning smile.
“No.”
“Please, please, come on. What’ll it take?”
“Your order.” The hero replied in the same flat voice they always used. “Burger and fries?”
“I don’t know. Feeling risky today. How are the shakes here?”
The hero might have broken something underneath the counter, almost willing to risk the identity slip up if it meant letting out the angry itch this particular endearing irritation caused.
Sliding a twenty across the counter, the customer winked.
“Add a shake to my usual, then. Vanilla. Keep the change.”
With wide and unblinking eyes, the hero peeled off the sticky note attached to the bill with the customer’s number written on it, and threw it behind them, nothing more than crinkled up trash to clean up later.
The customer held a hand to their heart. “You don’t even know what was on there! It could have been anything!”
Involuntarily, the hero snorted. “Anything, huh?”
Ok, yeah, slightly endearing that someone went out of their way to make the hero smile. Slightly less endearing the method, but the prosaic day of this particular nuisance was lovely in comparison to the unpredictable day of a hero.
“Ah, did I get you there?”
“No. I actually only smile once you leave, I’m physically incapable of smiling whenever you’re here.”
“Twice in one day? My sticky note on the ground, my pride ruined. I really can’t take much more of this. The only way you can make it up to me is by giving me your number.”
Leaning over the counter slightly, the hero looked left and right, lowering their voice. “You want to know another way I could make it up to you? What if I told you that order forty eight is up.”
“That was mean. That was really, really mean.”
“Get your food and leave so I can feel joy in my life again.”
Not even bothering to look at their food on the opposite end of the counter, which was put in as a to-go order for whatever reason, the customer focused on the cash register, making a low humming noise.
“Ok. Ok, alright.” They looked back up at the hero. “If you give me your number, go on the one date with me, I will never come to this trash, dime a dozen fast food joint ever again.”
“If it’s trash, why do you come here every Wednesday?”
The customer raised an eyebrow. “Why do you come here every Wednesday?”
“I work here?”
“Convenient excuse. Do we have a deal?”
Was someone being endearing enough reason to give out a phone number? Was someone being endearing enough reason to go on a date? Was someone being endearing enough to risk maybe never seeing their favorite customer again if a date went bad?
“I think they think it’s a good idea.” A smile bloomed across the customer’s face as they nodded towards the back.
When the hero turned, their coworkers were suddenly moving with renewed life, unexpectedly busy for a slow day.
“Would I really never see you again?”
“On my honor as a good samaritan.”
A slightly endearing sense of normalcy. Slightly endearing enough to risk it.
On the receipt that they never gave to the customer, mostly out of spite, the hero scribbled down a number for the customer to decipher later, sliding it across the counter.
“You know, good samaritans don’t hold up the line, if they can help it.”
The customer winked. “On my honor as a morally grey samaritan, then.”
“Get out of here.”
Grabbing the cold and disgusting food, the customer grinned once more. “I made you smile.”
It worked.
It worked.
It worked?
It was that easy the entire time?
The villain threw away the disgusting conglomeration of lard and salt in the trash can that was located immediately outside the restaurant.
Oh my god?
They had low hopes. They had no hopes at all. Really, there wasn’t any end goal. It was just nice to see the hero smile in a way that wasn’t for a camera.
Definitely all for the villain’s amusement.
It worked?
Wow, it worked, it worked and they needed to plan a date.
Wherever it was, it was going to be nicer than a fast food restaurant.

Even though I continue to be a wimp about horror, I am increasingly into Chapelwaite (and halfway through the series, which turns out to have 10 episodes instead of 6. Still more chances for people to become Less Okay! Help.) It's primarily a gothic horror show, but the characterization is so interesting. For instance:
the hypocritical minister™ is also genuinely trying to be a good man, and to fight for a version of his community where neighbors are more genuinely loving to each other
the dour minister's wife™ is also a grieving mother who is depressed and anxious and who feels estranged from her husband and doesn't know what to do about any of this
Honor, the sweet and solemn eldest of the Boone children, is negotiating her own place on the cusp of adulthood, but still possessed of a childlike innocence, even impulsivity sometimes. Also it turns out that she will fire a rifle at a crowd of racists trying to kill her dad (#goodforher)
I also love her siblings: Loa who is grieving and angry and not quite in her teens yet, and Tane who runs wild in the barn and garden and fights in school but also is still young enough to hold his dad's hand. I'm feeling guilty for preemptively deciding these kids were Unnecessary Additions To The Narrative because now I'm invested. And at the halfway point, Charles is practically trembling with the nervous strain of trying to protect them from isolation, grief, racists, vampires, and his own incipient madness. I am not okay about it.
Also, the acting is strong all around, and when Jennifer Ens gets her breakout role I will say aha because I love her so much as Honor. I was glad to see that Adrien Brody was nominated for an award in this because I can't decide whether watching him in this role counts as therapy (Aristotelian theory of tragedy) or requires an invoice for therapy (Tumblr theory of tragedy) but either way! There was a scene in the latest episode where we see him, in a long shot, confronting... something, we know not what. And we see his breathing change. And I started saying "nonononono" out loud, because whatever was making him look Like That...!
#chapelwaite#this has been out for years so i'm not worrying about spoilers#also i won't give away horror spoilers™ for those who might... uh... want to be scared by surprise vampires? and body horror?#not me!!#i'm presuming that charles won't die in precisely the same way as in the book but. uh.#i am not expecting him to survive#i continue to be irritated by anachronistic dialogue#at one point honor says of her father 'he hasn't grieved'#aside from that being a silly way to frame grief in any period: GIRL#your father is still in a non-minimalist definition of full mourning#he is not sleeping well#he is. um. high-functioning and trying not to burden his children with his emotions (good job charles!)#but grief is the atmosphere through which this man MOVES#it absolutely affects his readiness to threaten to kill a bunch of racists (good... job... charles?)#and beat a racist up before spitting the man's own whisky into his eye (extremely sexy of him. not. um. extremely well-advised.)#this man is gaunt and pale; trembling and hollow-eyed#'he hasn't grieved'??? what else is he DOING in the long lamplit hours of his solitude?#anyway as i was saying: adrien brody. therapy. some relationship to.#my insomniac chapelwaite diaries#loa suspects her dad of having feelings for the governess. i do not#but somewhat to my disappointment (narratively) it turns out she does have feelings (of some sort??) for him#she says 'he's the most interesting story that ever walked into my life' and yeah! sad possibly-cursed possibly-insane widower sea captain!#but that does not mean you are in love with your Solitary Employer miss morgan. even if he does have devastating bone structure.

Governess is not a “fall back” Job
There is this thing I encounter a lot online, where someone points out that as a member of the gentry, a woman can’t just get a job, and someone else says, “She could be a governess.” I don’t think she can.
We see some examples of governesses across Regency and Victorian novels. Jane Fairfax in Jane Austen’s Emma, Cynthia Kirkpatrick in Elizabeth Gaskell’s Wives & Daughters, Agnes Grey, in Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë, and of course, Jane Eyre in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.
All of these girls are highly educated, most of them with the purpose of becoming a governess at some point. All of them, to the best of my memory, can play music and draw. Most speak French; Jane Fairfax can sing in Italian. They are “highly accomplished”.
Now let’s take a peek at Jane Austen’s heroines. Emma Woodhouse and Anne Elliot would meet those standards (and I’m not sure Emma can speak a second language). They also happen to be the most stable of heroines (Emma doesn’t even need to marry, Anne can just live with Lady Russell or Mary). Elinor and Marianne Dashwood also would probably qualify, and they might actually need to if something went wrong.
But Elizabeth Bennet, Catherine Morland, and Fanny Price? They are not at all qualified to be governesses. Which in Fanny’s case is actually super poor planning, since they don’t seem to know what exactly will be her lot in the future. Elizabeth kind of plays piano, not well, but cannot draw and doesn’t have the formal education people would be looking for: her manners are not of the fashionable world. Catherine and Fanny both cannot draw or play, though I believe both can actually speak French.
If Fanny Price advertised herself for a governess, I think she’d fail. She’d certainly be beaten out by all the women actually trained for the job, like Jane Fairfax. She doesn’t have marketable skills! Which I think is the real point here. These women do not have options. They either marry someone rich enough to support them or they are a permanent dependant on their families. And especially for Fanny Price, there isn’t much family to fall back on either...
