Lunchtime Disagreements
Yuu and Ace get along for some very specific reasons. Unfortunately for Riddle, he is about to find out one of the things they have in common.
(Yuu on the other hand, has had a rough week. They woke up and chose violence. They will not be apologizing.)
A/N: Hi :)
Rule number 271: One must leave the table within 15 minutes of completing their lunch
"Yeah that's not going to happen."
Every Heartslabyul student around their lunch table seems to freeze, anxiously watching red rise to their housewarden's cheeks. Yuu on the other hand settles deeper into their seat, the picture of indolence. Grimm, always down for mischief, hops onto the tabletop, moving the empty Ramshackle lunch trays to the side so he can comfortably turn into a cat loaf in the smack middle of everybody. He shoots a satisfied shit-eating grin up at Riddle Rosehearts, delighting in the frustrated expression on the young man's face.
"Excuse me?"
The Ramshackle prefect finishes off their burger, and then calmly turns to give Riddle Rosehearts their full attention.
"Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm good. Thanks but no." The prefect shoots the housewarden a polite smile before sipping on their carbonated beverage. The redhead blinked, thrown off by the other student's nonchalance of the subject.
"Suggestion... you can't just... the rules-"
"Are completely asinine, let alone inefficient and inapplicable to our current situation." They take another long sip of their drink while the older boy grows steadily redder.
"ASININE?!!"
"Mm-hmm" they hummed, bobbing their head in casual acknowledgment. Calmly setting down their drink, they raised their hand so they could count off for the Heartslybul Housewarden. "One, I am not a Heartslybul student. Therefore, your word is not my law."
Ace was trying very hard to hide his snickers at Riddle's grinding teeth. (He wasn't trying at all honestly but if anybody asks he's going to stick with his story thank you very much.)
"Two, this is not the Heartslybul dorm. There is no polite societal convention that demands I attempt to follow your dorm rules in the neutral territory that is the cafeteria."
Riddle now resembles a tomato, hair blending in with the color of his face. Deuce and Cater exchange nervous glances.
"Three, my next class is alchemy, and according to the time, the Alchemy Lab won't be open for at least 30 more minutes. So instead of staying here and, oh I don't know, getting ahead on my alchemy readings, you want me to leave. And do what, exactly?"
Trey was sweating in his seat. Tentatively, he reached out to the Ramshackle prefect, hoping to make this conversation just stop. "Hey, okay, I think you made your-"
"I'm not finished" they snapped, whipping around to glare at the Vice Warden's outstretched hand. When it dropped back to Trey's side, they turned back to the dorm leader. Riddle was seething, face so red that steam was quite literally going to rise from his face if someone poured water on him. And honestly, at this point, Yuu was kinda pissed too. So when Riddle opened his mouth to take advantage of the pause in their tirade, they stood up and crowded into his space, not willing to let this go until they said their piece.
"Your precious rules are more often than not completely senseless. Name me one benefit, one productive result, one good reason why rule 271 should be followed in every scenario, regardless of circumstance, and I'll take it all back."
They paused, to give Riddle a chance to rebuke them. They didn't pause longer than a second, but let the record show they did pause.
"You can't, can you? Because there are none. There is no good reason for your out-of-pocket rule. That's because it's an insane rule created by an insane woman."
"OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!"
Students wearing rose-red armbands flinched in the courtyard, frantically searching for where their leader could be. It was a fearful response, fueled by the sheer anger they heard in his voice, but they were also curious about exactly what moron was capable of upsetting their mini tyrant so immensely. The Heartslybul students in the courtyard soon figured that since he wasn't in sight, Riddle must be tearing into someone still in the cafeteria. There was collective relief, but those students also sent up a collective prayer for the poor soul on the other side of their housewarden's unique magic.
Meanwhile, inside there's a flash where the freshman prefect was standing, bright light taking its time to dissipate from their silhouette. When it does, the cafeteria is silent, shock settling heavily in the atmosphere. Riddle, who had still been as red as his namesake, rapidly began to pale at the sight before him.
Yuu stretched their neck, with no collar on them to impede the motion. They slouched back into their seat, reaching over to begin petting Grimm behind his ears. The creature's body is forced to relax under the careful touches, his tense posture melting back into a content cat loaf. The prefect themselves are pretty content with the way this argument turned out, although... one last nail in the coffin couldn't hurt his ego any more than they already have.
"I don't have any magic Housewarden Rosehearts. 'Off With Your Head' is useless against me where there is nothing for your spell to contain. So if you want to effectively throw a tantrum next time I'm verbally kicking your ass..." Their eyes locked onto his stormy grey eyes, a small, conspiratorial smirk tugging at the corner of their lips.
"You're gonna need to turn that collar into a muzzle."

Royce "Roy" York M 21
Character References/Playlist
"Will you stay this time? I missed you. It feels easier to smile when you're around"
The scion of the Yorks who has taken to drinking excessively since the death of their childhood friend and rival. He has a jovial attitude that some might call charming or annoying depending on your perspective. Always one to give a quick joke or tease for a quirk of a smile. He’s a tad irresponsible with a devil-may-care attitude and his slightly childish worldview. But there is secret weariness within him ever since his father started training him to be the future leader of the family. But he won’t tell anyone so he will continue to drink to drown out the negativity.
Douglas "Lassy" York M 21
Character Reference/Playlist
"Are you suprised? Something was bound to break, sooner than later."
The extremely studious but antisocial middle son of the Yorks. Many of the locals are perplexed by the once determined and ambitious boy of the past turning into the reclusive man who retreated into the confines of his family’s home. Nobody knows what happened to make him abandon his plans of renown or what has beaten him down so much to holed himself in his room. Though you can see rare glimpses of him carrying books or researching, he nevers talks. Ignoring everything around him for the sake of his secret research.
Rosette Amanda "Andi" Lark York F 2O
Character Reference/Playlist
"You finally came back home buddy. What the hell took you so long?"
The most outspoken of the York siblings who have since cut ties with her family after she turned eighteen. She was the theater kid amongst her siblings who can grab anybody's attention and a bit of a troublemaker as well. Now, she’s often seen in the local bar performing for the residents or help do miscellaneous jobs around town. Just don't mention her old name or ask her about her family. Nobody knows why she cut ties with her family or even more strangely why she hasn’t just left town all together.
Marianna "Marie" Lanshire F 22
Character Reference/Playlist
"Why did you come back? After what you've done, after you abandon my sibling, your best friend, what nerve do you have to return here?!?"
The exceptionally talented daughter of the Lanshires who’s constantly working to covet more power for her family. She’s considered the unofficial mayor with how much she does around town. Though she keeps a charming attitude towards locals and the occasional tourist, she has such cold eyes that often give people the chills. It has been like this since the death of her sibling and MC’s family cutting all ties with the town. She can sometimes be found at the edge of the woods at night, the same spot where her baby sibling was found dead.
Edward/Edith "Eddy/Eda" Lanshire M/F 20 15
CR M F/Playlist
"Still feel guilty cher? Why did you hold on for so long?"
They were the shining star in the town. A bright and cheerful young person who was the apple of everybody’s eye. Which shocked everybody when they were found dead afterschool near the woods. They were only fifteen- a life that was taken away too soon. Nobody knows why it happened with how adored they were by everybody. The police ruled it as a suicide based on seemingly obvious evidence and quickly shut the case. Too quickly. Despite them being dead, they seem to haunt MC every day since they left Wrydville.
Juste/Justine "Beau" Beaufort M/F 22
CR M F/Playlist
"Why are you here? You'll only cause pain for her."
They were an outsider who was offered a scholarship by the Lanshires for better education and a possible successful future. They didn't have anybody to go back to in their hometown, so they decided to stay with the Lanshires. Beau can often be seen following Marianna around town and keeping everything in order. They’re her right hand and sometimes enforcer. They’re currently studying law and are extremely close to the Lanshires, personally and professionally. Though they are slightly off-putting with how mechanical and emotionless they seem.
Lucero "Luca/Luz" Cataleya Cruz M/F 22
CR M F/Playlist
"I will be here for you no matter what. Just ask and I will be there."
They met MC around a year ago and became fast friends with them. They have an aggressively friendly attitude and a “kill them with kindness” approach in life that they follow religiously. They stuck by MC the moment they met them and their presence for some reason helped ebbed away some of MC’s anxieties and worries. They are a sunshine person that wants to make the world a better place, but they’re not completely pure. They never told MC what they do for a living, despite how open and outgoing they seem. Their job is the one thing they keep under lock and key.
Ji-Min Park M/F 20
CR M F/Playlist
"Do you remember me? I remember you."
They’re a worker for the town’s news while completing online college courses to become an official investigative journalist. They were casual friends with E and MC since they helped fend off Ji-Min’s bullies due to their shyness and height. After MC’s departure and the rapid-fire conclusion of E’s case, they decided to fully go over the case themselves as nothing added up. After five years of sleepless nights and countless theories, they finally had enough evidence for the police department to reopen the case. However, the evidence points towards someone unexpected.
Doran/Deirdre "Dee/Dee-Dee" Gallagher M/F 24
CR M F/Playlist
"You're certainly different from the other people in this town. I think I'm gonna enjoy my time here."
They've been traveling for a few years now and arrived at Wrydville at the same time as MC. Nobody in town really knows who they are or why they’re passing through. Locals will often find them in the surrounding woods photographing and writing in their little travel notebooks if they’re not around MC, who they quickly became attached to when they saw them. They have polite friendliness that doesn’t seem genuine at all. The dichotomy of how detached they are from their surroundings if it isn’t their unknown project or MC has some on edge of what this person is actually doing there.
Paul/Paulina "Pasha" Morozov M/F 20
CR M F/Playlist
"You're Warwick. A local legend just like me. How ironic is that?"
They've been isolated from everybody since they were young. They made local news as a child as they were discovered dead near the woods but then miraculously revived. However, their parents had kept them under lock and key in their home ever since that day with no reasoning provided. Nobody in town truly knows who they are. The locals only have rare glimpses of the seemingly ghostly figure who only comes out when everybody is asleep. A seemlingly local legend brought to life as the younger generation create stories and tales of the mysterious figure.

Some quotes from Keeper of the Lost Cities that have stuck out to me as I reread it:
"Not to mention she know had no hope of a normal life. Who would want to be friends with her when they found out she was an anomaly?"
"'...You, of all people, should never forget where you come from. If you need reminding, let me know and I'll bring you here.'"
"'...A brewing rebellion - a black swan - in a society were rebellion isn't supposed to exist.'"
"'...You're the new girl with the mysterious past who probably has all these weird powers.'"
"'...I thought we were a family but I was wrong. I can't replace Jolie and I guess you don't want me.'"

Daminette Corpse Bride AU
Well AU-ish
Original Post
So we left off in the land of the living and learned that Marinette's groom is hoping She's not found so he doesn't have to get his hands dirty.
In comes in either Luka or Felix (whichever fits your preference) as they have known the Dupain-Cheng's for some time.
For drama purposes, they could have romantic feelings for Marinette or you go the platonic love route where they are there to see if her groom is worthy of their friend. (He's definitely not worthy.)
When they arrive, they hear the news bellower shouting out the most recent news while ringing the bell.
"EXTRA! EXTRA! The only daughter of the Dupain-chengs goes missing after disastrous rehearsal!"
That has them booking it to the bakery where both families are sitting together trying to figure out how to find Marinette.
However, they notice that it her groom seems to have no interest in finding her as he seems to be zoning everything out. That pisses them off.
After introductions are made, they ask the groom to walk with them, in the guise of finding and clues as to where Marinette could have gone.
They reach the church and go around back to see if there's anything there, and that when Luka/Felix pin her groom to the wall.
"What the hell is your problem?! Your bride is missing, and you don't seem the least bit worried! Don't you love her?! Marinette is an amazing girl, and anyone would be lucky to have her as their partner!"
"If I didn't know any better I would say you love my bride. If she's such an amazing girl as you say then why don't you marry her?" - The groom
This pisses off Luka/Felix more, resulting in the groom getting a black eye.
Now this seem entertaining to the groom, and now wants to marry Marinette out of spite. Just to rub it in their faces.
Perhaps marriage does has its benefits.
When they get back to bakery, they fawned over Marinette's groom. Which he resumed them the black eye was caused by his own clumsiness.
Luka/Felix really don't like him.
In the land of the dead:
Marinette is honestly kinda terrified, but at the same time living her best life
Ever since spending time with the Wayne family she's seen a change with herself.
She's more outgoing and relaxed around them. Especially with Damian.
She honestly thinks that perhaps if she met Damian when he was alive, she would choose to marry him instead.
Damian and Marinette spend a lot of time together. He discovers her interests, the things that make her laugh, her fears, and the fire that hides within her heart.
When he told of her of his family's demise. She didn't show sympathy but rather angled that someone would do such a thing to them. Especially after learning all the good they did for their community.
It almost looked like she was about to commit murder.
Just when he thought he couldn't fall for her anymore.
Meanwhile his family are spying from a reasonable distance. Some are even hiding in some of the coffins lying around the area.
They are so invested in this relationship. More than they should be.
"I never seen baby bird fall this hard for someone before" - Dick
"Tell me about it. He didn't even show half of the emotion he's showing her to his ex-fiance" - tim
"She could do better." - Jason
"Shut up, Jason" practically everyone in the batfam
"Fuck you!" - jason
Don't get Jason wrong her loves the "demon spawn," and loves Marinette, bit he's a realist.
He's read the vows, and come on, Damian's a dead dude.
"Till death do us part." Dpnes anyone else remember that line? No? Just him? OK then.
He really hates the fact that they are setting themselves for heartache.
One day, Marinette asks Damian why they haven't moved on yet.
He tells her it is because he knew his family was so excited to see him get married, and when it was about to happen, they all died. He wanted to make them proud, and show them that they didn't need to worry about him no more.
"Eell, if you want I could marry you." - Marinette
"I couldn't ask that of you Marinette," - Damian
"But I want to." - Marinette
Damian swears his long since dead heart skipped a beat .
They announce the wedding and Marinette says it will be upstairs.
Everyone is excited.
Cue the scean where everyone is getting ready for the wedding here.
In the land of the living
Everyone is freaking out the dead is brought back to life.
Then, realise they mean no harm. Live relatives get to spend some time with those who have long since passed.
Luka/Felix see Marinette in her wedding dress in the crowd of the dead and can't help but feel a sense of dread wash over them
Her original groom sees the Wayne family with Marinette and can't help but feel fear and anger.
At the church, the ceremony is being held when Luka/Felix come in when they said speek now or forever hold your peace woth her original groom in tow
* insert shocked wedding guests here*
A dual breaks out between luka/Felix between Damian.
Marinette's original groom hold her back to keep her from interfering. He's high-key hoping that Luka/Felix die
Some how they talk it out during the dual and Damian realizes that luka/Felix what the same thing as him; for Marinette to be happy.
He turns to Marinette, and getting a good look at her original groom, he says their name.
"Hello, Damian. It's funny seeing you and your family here when you should all be 6 feet under." - Marinette's original groom, he says, pulling out a knife and holding it up against Marinette's throat.
It is here we find out the Original Groom and his family worked for the Wayne's and where the ones to poison them.
Turns out the original groom was greedy, always wanting what he couldn't have. Thus, he manipulated his family to help him commit murder and steal the Wayne family fortune.
He fights with the Wayne's + Luka/Felix and is able to hold his own.
He tires and gives Marinette up,
congratulating her on having such great mates.
They all glare at him and watch as he drinks from the chalice that Damian told Marinette only he would drink from.
*insert dying noises here*
Everyone dead minus the the Wayne's and Alfred go to give Marinette's original groom a "warm welcome"
Spoiler: it was not welcoming at all.
Marinette hugs luka/felix as Damian watches.
Damian sees she's in good hands and can't help but feel at peace knowing that.
Turing to him, Marinette asks if he still wants to continue the wedding, but he says no.
Little my little he and his family start to turn into butterfly.
Damian then tells her that he no longer wishes to be married bow that he is happy and at peace. It is then revealed that that is why the rest of his family stayed behind.
All they wanted was to finally see him happy.
Marinette gave him a bone crushing hug which he reciprocated, and one by one the rest of his family joined in.
Marinette cries when they all disappeared, and all that was left between her arms was air.
Luka/Felix held her until she felt better.
After the event her original groom's family was held accountable as accomplices to murder.
The Dupain-Cheng bakery saw an influx of customers and were able to expand their business, with the help of Luka/Felix
Marinette happily stays single, and lives out her wildest dreams.
Maybe even adopts in the future
Alternative ending 1:
Marinette and luka/Felix spend more time together after the event
Slowly fall I'm love
Marinette is still able to live out her dreams with a supportive partner.
They get married
Alternative Ending 2:
Rather than moving on Damian and his family come back to live, able to once more walk amongst the living.
"If I had a nick for every time I died and was brought back to life, I'd have two Nicole. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice," Jason
"The first time doesn't count as it was faked," tim
"I'm alive! How many years has it been? Do you think Barbara and Wally are older than me now or..., " Dick, just happy to be alive and able to contact friends.
Duke and Cass are smiling, happy to be alive, and for Marinette and Damian, finally able to be together.
Damian is hugging Marinette happy he is able to hold her in his arms. Happy that he can be with her
Alfred and Bruce have to interupt them, so they can formally meet Marinette's family, and press charges against her original grooms family.
A year later Marinette is walking aboung the aisle with her father.
Luka/Felix is her best man
Damian feels like he's the luckiest man in the world.
Alternative Ending 3:
The boys don't make it on time to object.
Marinette decides she'd rather be with someone eho makes her happy.
He drinks from the Chalice even though Damian tried to talk her out if it.
" I'd rather be with you in death rather than later marry someone who I can not bring myself to feel the way I do when I am with you." - Marinette
"Are you sure this is what you want?" - Damian
Marinette smiles and drinks from the chalice.
When the boys arrive, those of the dead are long gone, and so is Marinette
She and the Wayne's live happily ever after in the afterlife.
The end.

part 2 of my Pirates SMP theory
So last time I ended off on the realization that if the People of the Yellow Ship are basing their choices off of the character's backgrounds, then Scott is probably going to be the next victim (sorry people who are already attached to the Denholm brothers).
But regarding my joke about hair colour being the reason it can also work because. You know.
But now here's where I start theorizing about the future. I think, that the Kestrels will be eliminated first, or at least targeted the most overall. If this is how it goes than it implies that there is monetary gain to turning innocent pirates (haha, there's no such thing) to stone. Much like real cultists, there be gold to be given if you can just persuade 'em. I assume that Scott also comes from money so it would make sense in that context too. Owen also comes from money but I doubt he'll be targeted until towards the end, due to his main character energy.
Actually, it would be a subversion of tropes if Owen was picked off early. It would be an opportunity to make like a true DM and control the world from the aether. Make like a Grian and become a god of spectators. I doubt it will go this way but it would be an interesting choice.
If my theory of the Kestrels being picked off first turns out to be true more or less, than it would honestly be a waste. Starkid taught me that leaving the more unlikeable characters alive closer to the end (hi Ted) tends to be the right call. I think. I don't actually consume much horror media, I don't know how this works as well as most people. But it is interesting to me that the Kestrels are the only faction to not have been given a more favourable, positive value.
The Kites may be brutish murderers (at least to some) but they have honour, and passion. The Nightingales were mentioned once to value family, which combined with adventure is a combination of values I've never seen before. And the Herons are already pretty appealing to the Ravenclaws of us (sorry to invoke the worldbuilding of Miss Rowling). The Kestrels are really only mentioned to value wealth which, especially with much of the mcyt community being young anti-capitalists, already gives us a reason to dislike them. Especially with Sausage, Kyle and Oli really playing into the greedy rich man archetype, and Scar committing crimes of the stealing and scamming variety (although let's be honest, we can't hate Scar for that, if anything. There's a reason why most of the fanart so far has been about him and not the lesbian couple whose deaths kickstarted the lore, I see you all).
I haven't seen Martyn's POV yet so I don't know where his character lies on the spectrum, but Guqqie seems to be the only good member of the Kestrels, though even she dabbled a little in the casual blatant joking classism. With her gone, and Sausage seeming to consider himself leader (getting indignant when someone suggested that Jellie lead the Kestrels), the Kestrels might have an opportunity to corrupt and become even more villainous. It would seem like a waste if they were eliminated before they had a chance to become memorable villains, though maybe there is a reason for that. After all, one of the easiest ways to make a villain scarier is to have them kill the lesser villain off (some good examples are Toffee from Star VS and The Mayor from Lego Monkie Kid, even though Toffee didn't really kill Ludo).
Now if the People of the Yellow Ship (YES, I'M TRYING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN) were smart, the faction they'd target next would be the one that poses the biggest threat. This could be two, really. The Kites pose the stronger physical threat, of course. They're all fighters, and the Kites seem to have the least qualms about killing, if things come to that. If it comes down to a physical altercation between Kites and Yellows, the Kites would presumably win (unless we simply haven't seen the true force of the People yet. That would be interesting, if the faction set up as the most physically powerful was less than the villains (after all, a Kite was the first to die to the vines), though I wouldn't expect that from fictional cultists. Something about them just gives a d&d wizard vibe, if you know what I mean)
The other next best choice to attempt to eliminate (assuming, of course, that the villains are tactical like this) would be the Herons. Discovery is literally in their bio, and they seem like the most likely to play detective. If the Herons discover what the People of the Yellow Ship are up to, then they could rally the entire rest of the Faction Isles, and all the pirates from all the other branches across the archipelago, to take down the threat of presumably smaller numbers (unless some don't believe them, or the writers want to make a political allegory and have them not be able to all come together even in crisis (I watched Don't Look Up yesterday.)). The People have a branch (if abandoned-looking) on the Isle itself, which might even mean that they have a spy on the inside, pardon the paranoia. But this gives the Herons an opportunity to investigate without even leaving home, which honestly must be terrifying for them.
The Nightingales have some overlap with the Herons, but they seem to value adventure more for the thrill, for the personal experience rather than documentation. The type to judge a Heron for taking pictures while on vacation, if it were a modern setting. Combine that with the fact that I haven't seen many Nightingales so far, and this makes it seem like they'd be the least threatening to the cult. The cult might even view the Nightingales as distractable bleeding-heart losers who care about family, yuck. /j This puts them at the least risk.
Now, who does that leave to be, if all goes to plan, the last one standing? HeyGraecie (I've never heard of you before, sorry), the only character revealed yet to have been a Nightingale since before this year's Factioning. And... Acho. Damn... between you, Acho, and Olive... I hope you both at least are allowed to attempt to be heroes.
