#he's even really cute about Daigo and believing in Daigo. I like to think his influence ends up rubbing off on Majima a bit

I do love that Saejima went back to visit Okudera (but ended up fighting the bear again because. Of course.) In RGGO. Love that of all the protagonists he genuinely does seem to be the one who will truly try and keep the friendships and relationships he's built- He lost 25 years to prison, and then he lost Yasuko when he finally got back, so seeing him choose to keep getting back up and to keep living is so lovely :')

Three platonic dynamics you love for the fandom ask game?
I think the idea is to post a fandom and then I answer the headings related to said fandom, but you know what? I like the idea of having to think of every single platonic dynamic in everything I've ever consumed and think of three I adore, so lets do it!
The very unusual dynamic between Polaris and Jesse from Control. Polaris is just so many different things for Jesse that trying to define it doesn't do it justice. She's a guide, she's a companion, she's a carer, she wants to see Jesse grow brighter even if it means encouraging her to do some weird things. It's telling that when Jesse feels Polaris is gone, it's very similar to when she felt lost in the world when she was in psychiatric care.
Daigo and Kiryu, but mostly because the tragedy of it is what really gets me. You really start to get a parallel between Kazama and Kiryu's relationship, what Kiryu absorbed from that relationship and then accidentally did the same to Daigo. - He was involved in the death of Daigo's father (even though it was Nishiki that killed him, he still took the blame and Daigo only knew Kiryu as his father's killer) but was also responsible. Whereas Kiryu was inspired by Kazama to want to be a yakuza, Daigo was pushed into the role of chairman by Kiryu and indirectly by his mother Yayoi. - Kazama did his best to persuade Nishiki and Kiryu not to follow in his footsteps and it took a lot before he relented. But then Kazama ended up being arrested for the events of RGG0 and had to watch his back constantly at the cost of not being able to reach Kiryu as quickly as he probably would have liked during RGG1. It's interesting then (at least to me) that Kiryu could have been a father figure for Daigo. To an extent you could say tries in RGG2, but all bets are off at the end. He tries, and yet when he gets involved in Tojo Clan affairs trying to help Daigo, it keeps going wrong. They even come to blows in RGG4 over financial affairs, which Kiryu couldn't solve and the one person that probably could have (Mine) is dead. The whole cyclical nature? It's fascinating but god, it hurts.
So I have some very mixed opinions about Tales of Graces: Lineage and Legacies (some not at all surprising, some not). One thing I love about it though? The way the party all end up getting cute little found family roles in relation to Sophie (which is ironically funny seeing how she's the centuries-old gynoid and the playable party are babies in age compared to her) makes me smile and warms my heart. They are one of the found family dynamics I can actually believe in.

so i just wanted to write a bit how daigo's hard on himself bc it's a thing i've noticed and it makes me sad
the most noticeable exhibits of this are in kiwami2 and ykz5 -- note that I've barely seen ykz4 so it's not being included here in detail. in kiwami2 the scene in serena tho with kashiwagi ??
the way kashiwagi bursts into the room and is like 'are you okay daigo?! you're not hurt, are you?' and daigo turns his head away/down?? as if he's feeling ashamed?
and what daigo says to him is 'sorry…i couldn't protect chairman goda' to which kashiwagi goes 'i heard. dont worry about it. you're alive, that's all that matters' and then offers him a cigarette&a light, which daigo accepts
its just such a short scene that always gives me a lot of feels and i feel is underappreciated but that’s also because i hyperfocus on daigo
but it's like, kashiwagi bursts in worried about daigo while daigo feels bad for not being able to protect the chairman but kashiwagi doesnt care about that, he's only caring about daigo at the moment and its just asdfghjk
all kashiwagi cares about rn is that daigo's okay!! but daigo's upset he couldn't protect the chairman -- as tho he's let them down, perhaps? 👀
srsly tho kashiwagi's interactions with daigo come off quite paternal, in a different way than kashiwagi's older brother interactions with kiryu and nishiki, which makes sense given context but it's something i always find cute/sweet
its a scene that i think shows that despite daigo being in his sort of 'angst, apathetic' 'phase', there's more to him than that&he actually cares quite a bit about things--his 'disrespectful' interjections at the meeting at omi hq i think are also supposed to be a sign of that, but i digress
and then there's the scene in ykz5. when daigo insists on like a proper duel/shootout with kurosawa to settle things and kiryu's all worried, daigo goes 'maybe i can finally say i lived up to the title of sixth chairman. kiryu-san' and that ???? that's absolutely in part related to the events from ykz4, and aaAH
not to mention what aizawa tells kiryu in the beginning of the game -- albeit aizawa is putting on a show -- "truth be told, all i know about you are the stories, fourth chairman. but it was the chairman who was always telling them. He said it was his duty to protect the Tojo Clan you left to him […] The other execs don't want us having these talks with the Yamagasa Family. say they're not even in the same league as the Tojo. how this equal alliance is anything but. but the chairman took it all in stride because of what he promised you."
not to mention daigo's "it may not always seem it…but i'm trying my best to walk this path" from the beginning ???
this is also sort of a tangent, but also the way daigo tells shinada that he didn't have any dreams of his own bc his path was already decided for him as a yakuza so he was fine with getting expelled to protect the baseball game was really sad, esp juxtaposed with how we're told that shinada remembers dojima-kun as having 'the top marks in the grade' aah
and i looked up the original japanese text to confirm that Shinada does specify 'Dojima-kun' as having first rank in the whole grade. assuming his father's reputation didnt intimidate the teachers' gradings -- and i dont think they did since it seems like daigo wasnt known for any yakuza ties in high school -- that means daigo was bright and could have potentially had a future with opportunities in another life aaah but i digress
and then in ykz6 when kiryu's writing that letter, aAH ;-; talking about children who believed they'd be loved and acknowledged by surpassing their parents/proving themselves ;-; the undertone of kiryu acknowledging he let daigo down by not being present for him despite his parental role and aaH i could go on about their relationship but im already rambling ;-; ;-;
daigo looks up to kiryu so much and it hurts me so much and makes the letter at the end of 6 so cathartic in a sense bc it's a validation of feelings for daigo and the shots of his face in the car during the scenes AAAhH
bc while kiwami2 shows that daigo's hard on himself outside of his relationship with kiryu, ykz5 makes it pretty clear that he feels like he's let kiryu down in a sense, by like failing to live up as chairman and stuff -- just that whole 'maybe i can finally say i lived up to the title of sixth chairman. kiryu-san' && 'it may not always seem it…but i'm trying my best to walk this path' is so !! heartbreaking !! and it's like, kiryu's distance, particularly post ykz3 but also like in general ever since Dojima died which is a whole !! other thing
this has gone offtopic a bit bc there's a lot about daigo that breaks my heart, so i apologize for the tangents

these are such fun posts to read! do you know where he's mentioned? i've seen "azuma publishing" mentioned but no mentions of azuma specifically, is he talked about in the base game or somewhere in the dlc, or the artbook? i've watched the yt videos and read the dlc translation document but you said he's somewhat obscure, so is there somewhere else?
i have a genuinely bad memory so this is kind of the blind leading the blind moment, but if its for certain, he is absolutely mentioned by name in the interlude when owl is listing off the fragments known to the sage association (everyone except ryuu, who was previously completely absent from of their radar completely for reasons unknown)
Tumblr media
there is a possible mention of azuma in langiri's letter in the hermits room, but given it is derived from a redacted/censored part (__ma) i will cautiously say it is speculation even if it fits... but langiri himself is married to a woman from the azuma family (presumeably azuma's.......sister?? the relation is not stated but azuma being his brother in law would be so good)
if this is strange it's because of the whole "two azumas" thing. there is azuma shirou and azuma wadachi. it really is strange, but i do believe they are the same person, fragments thinly concealing their identities behind minor name and status changes is nothing new (though aside from misumi this too is speculation)
i think it is only for certain for misumi, who in the base game is referred to as the grandson of mutsushika katsumi, but in the dlc when talking to hatsutori, he refers to katsumi as his father:
Tumblr media
by the way, i always wondered why they're sitting back to back like that. isn't it really fucking lame...?? misumi absolutely thought he looked like a badass squatted like that. there's something wrong with him definitely, aside from all the other things that are wrong with him
it's quite lazy, isn't it!! but you know, when you have that kind of political power, i guess you can hide anything!!! i'm not sure what the etiquette on info from the databook is, but it's probably fine to say the databook affirms that he just began to call himself the grandson one day, just to be sure that it isn't someone else. it is absolutely bald ass misumi who later inexplicably seemingly got tired of shaving his head and opted for a hoodie and eyepatch instead. lazy!!!!!! i think he's very lazy!!!!!!!!
things get a bit muddy with igarashi and azuma. especially given they're the ones we HAVEN'T seen. igarashi is mentioned several times throughout the series by virtue of his big zaibatsu, but when mentioned by name, it seems like.... there's at least three different writings of his name. that all read the same. this is probably as ridiculous as it gets... compared to misumi's "sweep it under the rug" approach and the simple mystery of there being two azumas, what?!! is he so attached to the name daigo...??? at some point if he keeps going i think he will have to resort to kirakira names once he runs out of proper ways to write it. this is just my own strange sense of humor though.
anyway, they are all quite old, probably (i want to say definitely, but aside from maybe igarashi whose business is mentioned by minoru existing since he was young meaning he's almost absolutely older than hatsutori, its all circumstancial still even then). azuma in particular, if shirou=wadachi, then that would make him a contemporary of theodore! over 120 years old!! actual fossil. i think it's a little cute......
shirou himself is an actual contemporary of theodore, being mutei's editor and publisher...
oh yeah, azuma is also mentioned in the first report on com's website, when miwa is listing off the people who know about his impending retirement.
again in the interlude, on the same vein, there is an encrypted email from.... someone, to miwa on miwa's computer, but the sender is not stated. but considering the list of people who can talk to miwa so frankly and know about the mirage incident is quite few and far in between imo, i think there is a good chance it is azuma. (the sender speaks so cutely and sweetly.....its definitely azuma!!!!<-crazy person)
i think its funny there are remnants of misumi and igarashi everywhere in empyrean, but azuma somehow either was careful not to leave any trace of himself or it was all made to disappear (though nothing seems to be visibly redacted). the three of them were involved in the funding of empyrean, mostly the mutsushikas and igarashi, but still, why?! they're all public figures, but of the three, compared to the president of a zaibatsu and a scion of an ex-prime minister, doesn't the president of a publishing turned entertainment company carry the least stakes...?! nonnie, isn't there a sort of darkness looming over him?! you're starting to see it, right?! i think there is a lot of appeal!!!
also, they're all public figures, but they do a very dogshit job of hiding their nature of not aging... that is, if igarashi x3 and azuma x2 are the same people respectively, but i have no reason to think otherwise...
but yes, aside from his association (obsession?) with the haradas and his work with hexa+penta, as the president of a/zuma pub, he's also miwa's boss in a sense!!! ...in a sense? no, probably straight up, right?
my friend at @/prelogism has summaries written up with azuma's existence in mind, it is probably a good idea to check those out as there's a clear thoroughline there. i just wrote stuff as it popped up in my mind so i definitely missed stuff.

Character Story - Nishikiyama (Junior High Student) [RGGO]
Wow, 3 stories in 1 week, I’m on a roll! But I’m slowing down now, cuz the Daigo one’s pretty long, and I need to get back to studying to make up for the oral revalida I bombed XD
Anyway now it’s time for Baby Koi Boi, the partner card to Baby Dragon! I’ve always loved Nishiki, but I think I love him even more now because of this, he’s just so much more emotional and passionate than anyone else in the series <3
Also! According to this, Junior High spans from 13 to 16 years of age (cuz its 1984). Sooo it’s slightly less weird to imagine 16-year-old-pornstached Kazama buying a porn mag in Kiryu’s story XD
Tumblr media
Story: Yuko, who STILL doesn’t get a character sprite even in RGGO, tells her big brother that she has a boyfriend. Nishiki freaks out.
Nishiki, beating up a poor civilian: “That’s for dating my sister!!!!”
Innocent civilian, getting beaten up by an angry teen: “I don’t even know who you are!!!!”
Note: In Chapter 3, the term “jealous of jealousy” or ヤキモチを妬く is used. Based on this article that took me ages to search, it means something along the lines of “gaining a crush on someone you’re jealous of” (kinda like tsunderes in anime I think) or “having a crush on someone who has a crush on someone else” or “wanting someone all to yourself”, with a hint of “love is blind”. But all of those are phrases MUCH too loaded for me to be including in here on the shaky basis of one google-translated article, so I’m leaving it as is. (But if someone who knows Japanese can confirm or deny it, please tell me so I can edit and put in the right term!)
.
CHAPTER 1
.
|One day in 1984. When Nishikiyama Akira and Kiryu Kazuma were still in junior high school . . . |
Tumblr media
[Theater Square]
Junior high school girl A: “Ah, Nishikiyama-kun! Yoo-hoo!”
Nishikiyama: “Hey.”
Junior high school girl B: “We’re all heading to the arcade. Come join us, Nishikiyama-kun!”
Nishikiyama: “No, I can’t. I have somewhere to go today.”
Junior high school girl B: “Ehh~! . . . Oh, that’s right. Sorry for disturbing you.”
Nishikiyama: “I’m sorry, please invite me again some other time.”
Junior high school girl A: “Yeah, see you next time!”
{Nishiki leaves.}
Junior high school girl B: “. . . That’s right, Nishikiyama-kun is visiting his younger sister today.”
Junior high school girl A: “Nishikiyama-kun really cares about his sister. I’m a little jealous~.”
----
Tumblr media
[Hospital]
Nishikiyama: “Yo.”
Yuko: “Onii-chan.”
Nishikiyama: “How are you doing?”
Yuko: “Same as usual. Onii-chan, won’t you be in trouble with Kazama-san?”
Nishikiyama: “That’s nothing to concern yourself about.”
Yuko: “Is that so. Good luck-”
Nishikiyama: “Easy, easy. Just lie down.”
Yuko: “But . . .”
Nishikiyama: “I just dropped by to see you. I’ll go home soon.”
Yuko: “. . . I really worry for my Onii-chan.”
Nishikiyama: “Shut up, it’s not like that.  . . . Hm? Yuko, what’s with those live flowers?”
Yuko: “Oh, these? They’re called Phalaenopsis orchids. Aren’t they beautiful?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah, they look really extravagant.”
Yuko: “Yup.  . . . Y-You know what?”
Nishikiyama: “Hm?”
Yuko: “Th-This is . . . a gift from my lover.”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Yuko: “A-Ahaha. What do you think, Onii-chan-”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Yuko: “. . . Onii-chan? You’re suddenly quiet, is everything okay?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Ha! Y-Yeah. I was spacing out a little. Okay, okay. I’m perfectly fine. 100 percent. Perfect. Yup. Everything’s fine. There’s no problem at all. Onii-chan’s not going home yet, I just remembered a little errand I have to do.”
{Nishiki runs out.}
Yuko: “Eh?! A little- Onii-chan!”
----
Tumblr media
[Pink Street]
Nishikiyama: (A lover? To Yuko? Yuko and a lover? A lover and Yuko? Lover? Lover? Lover? She has a lover???? She’s still a kid? But she has a lover? A lover? I can’t believe it. I can’t believe it . . .)
Tumblr media
High school girl: “Kyaa! Please stop!”
Hooligan A: “You want me to do something good to you, don’t you?”
Hooligan B: “Yeah yeah, come feel good with us!”
High school girl: “I hate you! Let go!”
Nishikiyama: “A lover . . . to Yuko . . . mumble.”
{Nishiki distractedly walks into the hooligans.}
Tumblr media
Hooligan A: “Hey! Watch where you’re going!!”
Nishikiyama: “mumble . . . mumble . . .”
Hooligan B: “Hey, bro. You can’t just bump into someone and then ignore them-“
{Nishiki swings around to throw his fist into the guy’s face.}
Tumblr media
Hooligan B: “Hgugh?!“
Nishikiyama: “Shut up!!!! I’m dealing with something right now!!!!”
Hooligan A: “Huh?! Th-Th-This bastard . . . don’t think you’ll scare us off by yelling!!”
Hooligan B: “Punching me out of nowhere . . . I’ll kill you!!”
{Nishiki beats the crap out of the hooligans and sends them running.}
High school girl: “U-Um, thank you very much!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . mumble.”
High school girl: “U-um . . . ?”
Nishikiyama: “No but, Yuko with a lover . . . she never said anything about it and then suddenly . . .”
{Nishiki wanders off, still mumbling to himself.}
High school girl: “I-I wonder what’s up with that person . . .”
----
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “. . . Damn it. I can’t get my head straight. Calm down. I need to calm down . . . ! Inhale~. Exhale~. Inhale~. Exhale~. Okay, taking a deep breath to calm down. I’m perfectly calm now. Now that I’m thinking with a calm head, I can clearly see what I must do. Yuko’s lover . . .”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “I’m going to find that guy and kick his ass!!!!”
.
-END-
.
CHAPTER 2
.
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: (Yuko’s lover . . . what an arrogant bastard with a bouquet . . . Well, it was Phalaenopsis orchids. The flowers look expensive. Maybe he’s a criminal whose modus is a bouquet of flowers! Wait, I can use the bouquet as a clue-)
Tumblr media
Drunk A: “So? What happened to the woman in question?”
Drunk B: “It’s perfect! Women are simple after all . . . it was easy!”
Drunk A: “Seriously? But I feel sorry for the woman though. Doesn’t she know you have a second?”
Drunk B: “Idiot, it’s not just two, I have five! It’s my technique so I can drop a woman anytime!”
Drunk A: “Five?! You’re the worst! Gyahahaha!”
Drunk B: “Hehe, I even gave one of the women a bouquet! That’s right-“
{Nishiki suddenly punches the five-timing drunk.}
Tumblr media
Drunk B: “Bgyagh?!“
Nishikiyama: “You gave the bouquet . . . ? So you’re the culprit!!!!”
Drunk A: “Eh? Eh . . . ?”
Nishikiyama: “Playing with Yuko’s heart is a sin . . . I’ll make you regret it!!!!”
{Nishiki beats up the drunks.}
Tumblr media
Drunk A: “O-Oi! Of your five women, are any of them this guy’s little sister?”
Drunk B: “No way! All five of them are older than me . . . !!”
Nishikiyama: “Oi . . .”
Drunks: “Yes?!”
Nishikiyama: “Didn’t you deliver that bouquet to Yuko’s hospital room?”
Drunk B: “W-W-W-W-Wrong! I gave that bouquet to Machiko, a cabaret girl!!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . I see. Don’t be so misleading next time. Jeez.”
Drunks: “We’re sorry!!!!”
Nishikiyama: (Damn it. If I don’t do anything, the culprit won’t be revealed. How do I figure out the criminal . . . )
Nishikiyama: “No, wait a minute. There IS a clue . . . !”
Drunks: “Yes?”
Nishikiyama: “You bought a luxurious bouquet to give to a woman, where did you buy it?”
----
Tumblr media
[West Shichifuku Street]
Nishikiyama: “It should be in this area. Here . . .”
Nishikiyama: (According to the drunkard, there’s a flower shop in this place. I have no idea who Yuko’s lover is, but maybe if I find out where he bought the bouquet that he gave her . . .)
Nishikiyama: “What was the flower again . . . a Phalaenopsis orchid? I suppose I should ask who bought them.”
Tumblr media
Flower Seller: “Welcome! Oh? . . . I have a lot of cute customers today.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Do you mean me?”
Flower Seller: “Ah, sorry for saying that out of nowhere. Earlier today a boy in a school uniform around your age came to the store.”
Nishikiyama: “Hey . . . is that unusual? A customer of my age . . .”
Flower Seller: “Yeah. Unless it’s Mother’s Day, a child your age has no reason to come to a flower shop, isn’t that right?”
Nishikiyama: “Definitely . . . if you ask me, then yeah. I wanted to know, did anyone come by today to buy Phalaenopsis orchids?”
Flower Seller: “Phalaenopsis orchids? I think that boy I mentioned just now bought some?”
Nishikiyama: “! I-Is that true?! What kind of guy is he?! Do you remember his name or what he looked like?!”
Flower Seller: “He’s just like you, a strong-looking kid who seems like he gets into fights. His name was . . . ah, right.”
Tumblr media
Flower Seller: “It was Kiryu-san.”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “. . . ha?”
.
-END-
.
CHAPTER 3
.
Tumblr media
[Champion District - Empty Lot]
Nishikiyama: “Yo, Kiryu. I’ve been waiting for you.”
Kiryu: “Nishiki . . . why did you call me out here all of a sudden?”
Nishikiyama: “Kiryu . . . do you have something to tell me?”
Kiryu: “Something to tell you . . . ? No, nothing in particular . . .”
Nishikiyama: “Is that right . . .”
Kiryu: “What are you angry about? Does it have something to do with what you want me to say?”
Nishikiyama: “Kiryu . . . earlier today, did you deliver a bouquet to Yuko?”
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . the look on your face tells me I’m right. Since when did you start sneaking around?”
Kiryu: “I wasn’t sneaking around . . . it started the day before yesterday.”
Nishikiyama: “What, that’s quite recent.”
Kiryu: “Yeah.”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Was it your idea?”
Kiryu: “No, it was originally Oyassan’s idea.”
Nishikiyama: “O-Oyassan?!”
Kiryu: “Yeah. He said he was sure it’ll make you and Yuko happy.”
Nishikiyama: “Why . . . did you keep quiet about this?”
Kiryu: “I was . . . going to surprise you.”
Nishikiyama: “I see . . . certainly, I was surprised to death . . .”
Kiryu: “Then what are you angry about? Did Yuko not like the bouquet?”
Nishikiyama: “No, she was very happy with it. Did you choose those flowers yourself?”
Kiryu: “That was also Oyassan’s idea. Phalaenopsis orchids mean ‘happiness soars’, apparently.”
Nishikiyama: “Tch! You keep saying Oyassan this, Oyassan that . . . Kiryu, what are YOUR feelings on this matter? You aren’t saying that’s ‘Oyassan’s idea’ too, are you?”
Kiryu: “It’s not like that. I followed Oyassan’s suggestion because it aligned with my feelings.”
Nishikiyama: “Is that right . . . so it really was you . . . to think I thought you were a good guy . . . damn you . . .”
Kiryu: “Nishiki, what on earth are you so angry about?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . Don’t you know?”
Kiryu: “I don’t know, I’m drawing a blank.  . . . Could it be? Are you jealous of your jealousy for me?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah, that’s right. I’m jealous. I’m burning you with my jealousy, Kiryu!”
Kiryu: “So you’re jealous . . . because the other party is your sister?”
Nishikiyama: “Yes because she’s my sister! And my sister is important to me, so that’s why I’m angry with you!”
Kiryu: “I see . . . I get it now. Yuko is your dear sister, so I should have consulted you properly about this. My bad . . . the line is different in matters like this, and I crossed it. How can I make it up to you?”
Nishikiyama: “Duel with me, Kiryu . . . !! A no-holds-barred, one-on-one battle!! I’ll use my fists to make you pay for this . . . !!”
Kiryu: “Okay, I understand. If this will make you feel better, then I’ll accept your challenge with my whole power!!”
Nishikiyama: “Let’s go! Kiryu!!!!”
{Nishiki and Kiryu duke it out in the lot.}
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “Jeez, as usual you’re still stupidly strong . . . Oww . . .”
Kiryu: “Haa . . . haa . . . So, are you done . . . Nishiki?”
Nishikiyama: “Yeah . . . thanks. It’s regrettable, but I have to admit . . . you being Yuko’s guy, she really does have a discerning eye for people!! To be her lover . . . no one would be more suitable than you!”
Nishikiyama: “I’ll accept it!! You and Yuko . . . dating!! . . . I’ll have to ask Yuko about this matter . . . kyoudai? From now on, call me Onii-san.”
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “. . . Nishiki. What are you talking about?”
Nishikiyama: “Huh? Oi, oi. Yuko’s bouquet of flowers in the hospital room, that was given by you. Isn’t that true?”
Kiryu: “Yeah, that’s right.”
Nishikiyama: “So that means you’re Yuko’s boyfriend.  . . . Am I wrong?”
Kiryu: “Why would that make it so?”
Nishikiyama: “Aren’t you Yuko’s lover?”
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “L-Lover . . . ?! Oi, what are you saying?!”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . I’m sorry, could you give me a minute, Kiryu? I’m going to make a phone call.”
Kiryu: “Y-Yeah. Go ahead.”
----
Tumblr media
[Phone Booth]
Yuko: “Hello, Onii-chan?”
Nishikiyama: “Hey, Yuko. About that lover you mentioned earlier-“
Yuko: “. . . I’m sorry. Onii-chan, that was all a lie.”
Nishikiyama: “! S-So that’s all it was . . . But- But why did you . . .”
Yuko: “I’m really sorry.  . . . I was reading a book.”
Nishikiyama: “A book . . . ?”
Yuko: “Yup. A story of a sick girl like me getting a bouquet from a dreamy boy and falling in love with them . . . When I read that, I got jealous . . . I’m a fool. There’s no way something like that will happen to me. I lied so that even for a brief moment, I could be like that girl in the book. You were so shocked. I’m really sorry . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . So it was all a lie?”
Yuko: “Um-hm . . .”
Nishikiyama: “. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “Haaaaaaa~~~!! I’m so relieved~~~~~~~~!!!!”
Yuko: “Eh?!”
Nishikiyama: “My hair was turning white already . . . No, what you did was bad and it’s good that you told me, but . . . Anyway, can you make things clearer next time? And if you do meet a really good guy . . . tell me first, okay?”
Yuko: “Okay . . . Onii-chan, thank you.”
Nishikiyama: “Oh! I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
Yuko: “Okay, see you tomorrow.”
Nishikiyama: (Haa~. I got absolutely played by my sister’s cute lie . . . )
Tumblr media
Kiryu: “Nishiki, you’ve been gone for a long time. Are you alright?”
Nishikiyama: “. . . K-Kiryu.”
Kiryu: “Hm?”
Tumblr media
Nishikiyama: “Kill me~~~~!!!! I’m sooo embarrassed~~!!!!”
Kiryu: “???? What is it, Nishiki . . . ? Ah, no, I mean Onii-san . . .”

Entry for @tyrantisterror ATOM Create a Kaiju 3D Contest Entry REDO Gunmetal Jeeves (v 1.1) The Story Following the 1954 Superquake and subsequent global infestation of colossal prehistoric beasts, the nations of the world began a desperate effort to develop new methods of armed defense. At the forefront of this push was robotics. The development of cybertronic war machines capable of combating the kaiju threat was  on the mind of every developed militarized nation of the world and they believed that the greatest advances in this field would come from the mind of the Japanese engineer, Dr. Daigo Ishikawa. Ishikawa, however, would accept no part in the development of war machines. Ishikawa had been widowed during World War II and had seen enough violence and killing at the hands of man and his machines to last a lifetime. Instead, the doctor was devoting himself completely to non-lethal methods, maintaining his pacifist opinion that it was irresponsible and immoral for man to exterminate lifeforms that his own reckless atomic testing had thrown up into reality. The work was long and grueling and drove Daigo and his teenage son further apart.
Yukio Ishikawa began to resent his father for his absence, especially after the death of his mother, whom they both loved deeply. Yukio began acting out, desperate to get an iota of his fathers attention. His grades suffered, he got in trouble with the police and his teachers. The message was all too load and clear, but his fathers work was too important. And so a compromise was formed. Daigo Ishikawa would build Yukio a companion- a robotic tutor who could cook and clean for him, help him study and contact his father whenever he was away, as well as tattle on the boy when he was up to no good. Made from an experimental metal infused with green crystals, the automaton Jeeves was born. Yukio was initially unenthused with his...colorful gift. A ten foot tall robot was impressive, but it was little more than a steel babysitter. Yukio took it upon himself to update the machine by reprogramming it a little himself. Miraculously, his tampering brought the creature to a degree of life. it could think and act on its own. it asked questions, it learned, it decided, and became more alive with each action. So, Yukio did what any teenage boy with a giant robot- he turned it into a super hero. He and the machine, who he had taken to calling Gunmetal Jeeves, would go on numerous adventures, fighting villains, foiling spies, impressing cute girls (and the occasional boy) and discovering new powers within the seemingly living machine.  But most importantly, through their adventures, Jeeves seemed to be bringing Yukio and his father back together. if a robot could learn what it meant to have a family, Daigo and Yukio could as well. The Personality Jeeves’ personality has two major components. The Friend, who is a little more casual. It represents the personality that Jeeves is attempting to create for itself based upon its observations of humanity. This side of Jeeves is snarky and likes to crack wise, often at Yukio’s expense. It learned a little era appropriate slang and uses it stiffly and unnaturally specifically to cause Yukio to cringe. While this side can be difficult, it is also ride or die loyal and affectionate. in contrast is the other side, The Brother. This side of Jeeves is the more introspective side, the side that is learning to be human. It is philosophical and curious, almost childish and innocent. It drops the pretenses of the prototype personality it projects and is shockingly raw and natural. it is the side that is more tender and nuturing. The Powers -Yamaneon Based --Jeeves is built from a unique synthetic metal called Photon Titanium. The material was developed by a metallurgist colleague of Dr. Ishikawa and was synthesized from Yamaneon crystals. it posses many unique attributes. The most basic of which is enhanced strength and heat resistance. it is extremely strong and hard to melt. --The Yamaneon within the metal and the circuitry of Jeeves’ computer brain is what bestowed life onto the creature. While it does not have bones, it can still hear the Yamaneon singing to it, if only very faintly. It was compelled to life by the crystals in its metal hide. --The final and most surprising power granted to Jeeves by the Yamaneon is a phenomenon Daigo calls Photonic Mass Expansion, (or the Photon Burst, as Yukio calls it.). During moments of critical need, Jeeves can use the Yamaneon to absorb light from its surroundings and suddenly expand its atomic structure using solidified light. This allows Jeeves to grow from the standard 10 foot height to kaiju sized 100 feet. Because its giant body is made from light energy, however, its mass increases very little. Therefore it has all the power of a giant monster, but is very easy to throw around. This process puts a severe drain on Jeeves battery and reduces his operating time to 3 minutes. When time is up, he powers down and shrinks back down to standard size. -Machine Based --Machine strength that far exceeds that of organic lifeforms. --Gravity Thrusters on its back allow for flight. These thrusters take a considerable toll on Jeeves’ battery life, especially during Photon Burst. --It can send and receive basically any known form of communication. Radio waves, sonar, brainwaves, television programming, satellite feed, etc. it has numerous ports on its battery pack that allow it to adapt to new technology as well. --Shock absorbent tires in the robots feet allow it to move at exceptional speeds up to 50 miles per hour. This puts a considerable drain on its battery. --While Jeeves has no weapons built into its chassis, it can utilize weapons made for it when necessary. It is also programmed in a wide variety of martial arts. The Weaknesses -Jeeves rechargeable battery and backup battery last for 24 hours each. it must keep these batteries charged or it goes inactive. it takes three hours to charge a battery. -Jeeves is incapable of killing, even when it would be beneficial. it cannot deal a fatal blow. -During Photon Burst, Jeeves mass remains unchanged. The solidified light transmits kinetic energy just like real matter, meaning when dealing attacks and counters, Jeeves is fine, but taking hits knocks it about almost effortlessly.  Extra -The main inspiration for Gunmetal Jeeves is Jet Jaguar. A semi-sentient robot companion that can change its size, but I delved into the idea a little deeper than the original Godzilla vs Megalon. Hopefully the new ideas from the ATOM universe have translated well into this fellow. He looks like Mecha-Freddie Mercury. -The Photon Burst is basically just Dynamax from Pokemon, isn’t it? Oh well, its cool there too. -When kaiju sized, a hexagonal pattern of green lines glows on Jeeves body, evocative of retrosaur scales. -I added size changing and flight because fuck it, I underestimated the level of technology in the ATOM books, and also I feel like its kind’ve thematically appropriate to go a little outlandish. I also realized i didn’t really establish Jeeves’ personality as well as his backstory, so I rectified that too. Even did a new art! proportions arent as good as the original, but hes in glorious technicolor!

Dororo episode 17
I need to talk about this one. It seemed like such a pure episode the first time I watched it, but now that I’ve watched it again, I’m seeing it in ways I didn’t see the first time around.
My findings:
1. Jukai fears that he has ruined Hyakkimaru’s soul by raising him and teaching him to kill.
2. Hyakkimaru is sometimes like a living doll from a horror movie but also is so precious I could cry.
Long Summary + Analysis
At the start of the episode, we see that Jukai has given up on helping people. He just goes between bodies passing out limbs that dead men can’t use. He’s completely resigned to death when Hyakkimaru shows up.
And Jukai’s flashbacks create a clear image of how he feels about Hyakkimaru.
He remembers him as a very small child, giving him limbs, him sitting in the river, and then he remembers teaching Hyakkimaru how to fight, him returning home covered in wounds. The scene cuts back to the present. Hyakkimaru is there, covered in the demon’s blood. He was once a sweet child, then Jukai taught him to fight. Now he’s a murder machine.
“You’re so… How terrifying you are.”
The only thing worse than these words is Hyakkimaru’s reaction to them.
No reaction.
He does react to Jukai nuzzling his forehead by copying the action and smiling. I think there’s only two options. He either doesn’t understand Jukai’s words or he does, but that doesn’t exactly matter. In both cases Hyakkimaru just assumes this person is saying something positive because why wouldn’t he? Jukai has only ever done good things for him as far as he knows. Jukai is a good soul that gave him food and legs and sword arms and a goddamn spine.
Then, in the category of “things that must have happened,” Hyakkimaru doesn’t speak or show that he can hear while Jukai washes Hyakkimaru’s clothes and cleans the blood off of him. It’s great because this is what their relationship has always been. Silence, caretaking, and cleaning up blood.
It’s sweet to see Hyakkimaru able to say what’s going on in his head to Jukai. Unfortunately, it’s pretty much exactly what Jukai feared. After a very sweet reunion, Hyakkimaru points out his leg. “This. I use it to fight. I want another. The same. I want.”
Hyakkimaru has always been a bit doll-like, but in this episode, he really takes it to horror movie levels. The way he says “I want” (hoshii) repeatedly through the episode is a bit unsettling. It doesn’t help that he’s like… half naked during this part of the episode.
When Jukai changes the subject, Hyakkimaru asks again. He grabs the prosthetic leg he wants and says, “This. I want this.” Jukai is surprised, insisting on making food first. It’s pretty clear that he’s stalling.
After Hyakkimaru explains that he doesn’t need help with food anymore because he can feel hot and cold. He also just lets his little bag with the crest fall to the floor without reacting. It’s one of those little things that makes him look less human if only because the natural response is to reach for anything you drop. I know his hand are full, but it’s still bizarre to watch. Hyakkimaru doesn’t always have normal reactions to things.
He also tells Jukai all about Daigo, the demons, his body, and the deal. He tells Jukai everything. He hugs Hyakkimaru. Again, Hyakkimaru smiles when receiving affection. It’s cute but super weird. “I found you and raised you, only to make you live in hell.” These aren’t words that make people smile.
Then Hyakkimaru points to the leg again. “I need that. I want that.”
This is when Jukai finally backs off of Hyakkimaru. Hyakkimaru has finally revealed just how one-track-minded he is when it comes to killing demons and getting his body back. He revealed how hasn’t thought through what destroying Daigo’s land will do to the people. Hyakkimaru is mechanical. He doesn’t put thought into why he does anything. He just knows to kill red souls. There are demons, and, regardless of who it effects, Hyakkimaru wants to kill them.
“You may look more human on the outside, but have you not become less human on the inside?”
Damn man. Jukai knows Hyakkimaru has killed people, that he was more “innocent” before he started getting his body back, before he started fighting. I would say, yes, in that sense, Hyakkimaru was more human before he grew an obsession for regaining his body. However, he didn’t really become obsessed until he learned about Daigo.
When Hyakkimaru could not hear or talk, Jukai could apply whatever meaning to Hyakkimaru’s actions that he wanted. It’s pretty common to apply your own feelings to another person and think they feel the same as you. Now that Hyakkimaru can talk, Jukai is confronted with the reality that Hyakkimaru has his own mindset, and, as far as Jukai knows, it’s the worst-case scenario. Hyakkimaru only wants to keep killing. He’s only here for a leg because it’s easier to fight demons when he has legs.
Jukai knows that killing more demons will only put the blood of humans on his hands. He doesn’t want Hyakkimaru to be a killer. He doesn’t want Hyakkimaru to live the with the guilt of killing people even if it isn’t clear if Hyakkimaru would ever feel guilty. He wants Hyakkimaru to be good and to be as human as he can.
He breaks the leg. “I cannot save you. I cannot.”
Hyakkimaru remembers his mom saying something similar, but I feel like these are different sentiments. I my mind, his mother was saying she couldn’t save Hyakkimaru’s body and life from the demons he was sacrificed to. On the other hand, Jukai is saying he can’t save Hyakkimaru’s soul that he played a part in ruining.
Then a landslide traps them in the cave. (It’s a bottle episode!)
Hyakkimaru starts digging out the cave entrance while Jukai questions him. Does he really want to go back into a world full of evil? Does he really want his body back? His body might be a burden, does he really want it? Hyakkimaru continues to say he wants his body sounding increasingly desperate, but then Jukai asks him why he wants it back correctly guessing that Hyakkimaru hasn’t thought through why he wants it.
“Because it’s mine.”
Jukai agrees that he doesn’t need a reason to want his body back, but he explains to Hyakkimaru that he’ll have to kill a lot of people to do it. He’ll make an enemy out all of Daigo’s people and end up having to kill his family. He’ll be alone with only corpses, and he won’t be human.
Hyakkimaru stops digging. “Alone?”
“Yes, alone. I fear that--”
“No. There is somebody.”
“What? Who?”
“Right now,” Hyakkimaru puts his hand where Dororo would usually be and pauses. “Not here.” This is seriously the best dramatic pause I’ve seen in a while. It’s uncomfortably long. The music stopped for it. It’s completely silent with no animation. It gets your attention, and I love it. Having just seen Dororo’s silhouette in the scene before, it’s easy to think of him as trying to figure out why the soul that’s been following him for weeks isn’t there anymore or trying to remember what it felt like to have Dororo there. It’s perfect. And it’s the first hint to Jukai that Hyakkimaru actually thinks about anything besides killing demons. It’s a very small, very humanizing moment.
Hyakkimaru goes back to digging.
When they get out, there’s a demon tree and Hyakkimaru does his thing. Jukai contemplates how he may just be like another demon to Hyakkimaru. He doesn’t know how Hyakkimaru sees souls, and he just took away his prosthetic leg as well as whatever damage he did to his soul by helping him live long enough to become a killer. When Hyakkimaru finishes his spree, Jukai looks at Hyakkimaru like he’s completely resigned to believing Hyakkimaru is both unsavable and unstoppable, even without a new leg.
Somewhere off screen, it looks like they had to clean Hyakkimaru up again. He’s always getting covered in blood. Jukai returns the bag with the crest and tells Hyakkimaru that the person he mentioned might be able to keep him human.
Hyakkimaru asks Jukai his name by pointing at himself and saying his name, then pointing at Jukai. Dororo never taught him the word for “name.” Jukai tells Hyakkimaru that he’s nobody, that he doesn’t need to know. Hyakki-face-touch-maru does the thing and says “I know what you are… You’re mama.”
Poor Jukai starts crying and laughing. “Silly you. That’s not what I am.” While Hyakkimaru leaves, a monster bites Jukai’s leg and dies. Jukai realizes monsters weren’t attacking him because he was so depressed, they didn’t realize he was alive.
There’s a lot to unpack here, but he moment where Jukai starts laughing is really sweet. He finally understands that Hyakkimaru isn’t just being a weird doll boy who hangs around for free limbs and food. Hyakkimaru isn’t just going through motions to appease Jukai or faking at being human. Jukai broke the leg Hyakkimaru wanted, he made his life harder, and he challenged his views on killing demons, then Hyakki-face-touch-maru called him his mom. Hyakkimaru finally said something that showed Jukai that he has affection for him even if he doesn’t get what he was after. Jukai finally knows that Hyakkimaru has feelings beyond “I want to kill demons.” Hyakkimaru turns out to be more human than Jukai was willing to let himself believe. He’s a good mom.
I’m not crying, but I am suffering. I love this episode so much...

My Yakuza 5 review MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD (AND A REALLY LONG READ):
Honestly, this game is so weird in a lot of ways. It felt like the team was just throwing EVERYTHING they had idea-wise into it and funny enough, most of it worked.
First things first, this game gets plus points for making Daigo suck still. I don’t think Daigo has ever done anything in any of the Yakuza games except get owned and I love it.
The plot suffered from some pretty serious pacing issues and the plot involving the Yakuza itself was...convoluted and kind of nonsense, but not in the way these games usually are. There are so many questions I had about pieces of the plot that I don’t think there is an answer too.
Akiyama’s part, again, felt pretty superfluous. I really don’t think there was a need to play as him and his connection to Park was just whatever. I think this is especially noticeable because he doesn’t have any side stories like the rest of the characters. He’s a very likable character, but his part here felt forced.
Shinada is another weird one. He is an incredibly likable character with a good backstory. His entire portion of the game had SO much heart and the ending to his story made me tear up too. Hearing Takasugi tell Shinada “We miss you, bud” while Shinada just breaks down crying hit me some sort of way. His section was just down to earth and normal and about the relationships he built up around him.
But his part in the plot was almost pointless. I really enjoyed his part of the game a lot and the conclusion was wonderful, but seeing him team up with Akiyama, Kiryu and Saejima at the end just felt completely random. He had so little connection to any of them. His part of the plot almost felt completely disconnected from the rest of the game and while I enjoyed it, it added to the pacing issues.
Haruka’s part was a lot of fun from a gameplay standpoint. I love rhythm games, so I had a blast doing it, but I have the feeling that the game should have put way less focus on the Yakuza stuff and more on Haruka trying to achieve this dream. Her part, combined with Kiryu’s part, was the focus of this game’s emotional impact. Her speech at the end and the post credits scene had me crying.
I do think it’s weird that Haruka wanted to be an idol and I know that it was hinted at in Yakuza 2 at least, but still. It kind of felt random. Anyways, Haruka needs to become a detective because that substory in Kiwami 2 was the best. I WANT DETECTIVE HARUKA. SAWAMURA, PRIVATE EYE.
Mirei Park got screwed over pretty hard in the game. She gets killed off screen and I honestly thought it was just a fakeout. But no, she’s dead and that’s that. Sucks too, because she was an interesting character even if I HATED her at the beginning for what she said to Kiryu.
Saejima’s part was weird too. It was like...a retread of his part in Yakuza 4. You start in prison, you break out, you go to a town and hide. The big difference is that this time you get to fight a demon bear and do some hunting. That part of the game is very weird. Saejima’s character is so fun and charismatic that he carried it through, but this was another part of the game that completely stalled the plot. NOTHING happened in it. You learn about Majima’s death very early on and just about nothing changes by the end of his part in regards to finding out anything. Anyways, Saejima has a substory where he slips and eats shit on the ice and that’s unbelievable. He honestly has some of the best substories in the game period.
What I will say is that the pacing is SO bad that when the other inmates and that warden appeared near the end to help Shinada, I completely forgot who they were because it had been SO long.
Kiryu’s part of the game was great. Seeing him suffer from so much loneliness because he was away from his kids and have this severe self loathing of himself because he truly believes that he’s a roadblock to his kid’s happiness and success...it just hit so hard. He has a substory revolving around buying gifts for his kids and it’s just so cute. Being a taxi driver as Kiryu was also really solid and I loved seeing him build new relationships with everyone at the company.
I think this game should have focused WAY more on all of that. I even like the idea that his people back in the Tojo were keeping an eye on him the whole time and planting people in his life. That would have been an intriguing path to further explore without all the...Omi Alliance/Tojo Clan war shit.
I don’t know what to say about all the war stuff between the Omi and Tojo. It was really stupid. The guy who wants to destroy the Tojo and Omi is the current Omi chairman, but he’s dying and doesn’t want a successor and also he wants his son...to have that power and his son somehow singlehandedly took over the Tojo headquarters, but also he was a Tojo plant and his sworn brother died and he was fighting in the coliseum so he could get info on who did it and seemed genuinely broken up but apparently he didn’t actually give that much of a shit?
It was some omega level ridiculousness. I don’t even understand the motivations other than “We came from nothing and achieved this power and now..I dunno f**k it I guess?”
I said it before, but this game is incredibly ambitious. There are 5 big ass towns you get to play in and other setpieces like the prison, the hunting town, etc. There is just A LOT of stuff to do. All the sidestories are unique and fun to play. The gameplay finally hits its stride and the combat is super fun (even if Kiryu and Saejima are BEYOND broken gameplay wise). The substory writing is the strongest it’s been in terms of the old games. Yakuza 5 is bursting to the rim with content. It’s ridiculously impressive as a package and I really enjoyed my time with the game, even though it had its faults. It’s definitely way better than Yakuza 4, which is to this day the weakest entry in the series.
Now all I have left is the conclusion to Kiryu’s tale and I AM SCARED.

In Defense of Best Boi Hyakkimaru
Tumblr media
Okay, I love him and I’ve noticed I’ve gotten a LOT of notes related to this.
Let me write a defense for him.
Reasons for being hated: annoying, generic protagonist, boring and one-dimensional, nowhere near as cool or interesting as Tahomaru, ugly in comparison to his older designs, falling in love with a useless prostitute, too edgy/emo (new reason), calling Jukai “mama” (yes, another new reason)
Annoying
Tumblr media
Oh hell no. It’s okay to hate a character for being annoying, but Hyakki is NOT annoying at all.
Generic Protagonist
You’re kidding, right? Well let me tell you a few things that DON’T make him a generic shonen protagonist:
-He’s not constantly eating and never getting fat
-He’s not super muscular (and I know this trope hasn’t been used as often in recent years but bear with me)
-He’s not a boob obsessed pervert
-He doesn’t even bother naming his attacks
-He isn’t extremely hot headed and more chill than most protagonists.
Boring and One Dimensional
Ohmigod. A boy who lost all his limbs but survived due to a certain goddess and a man named Jukai is so boring and one dimensional, right? Especially since he wants revenge on his father and wants to get his body back. Isn’t he a boring character? FYI, EVERYTHING I said here is 100% sarcasm.
Nowhere near as cool or interesting as Tahomaru
Look, I like Tahomaru, but Hyakki is much cooler in my opinion.
Ugly in comparison to his older designs
Tumblr media
I’m sorry, but what were you saying? I think the one on the right is MUCH better looking.
Falls in love with a useless prostitute
Let’s be honest here. he didn’t just love Mio for her looks, (he can’t see remember?) he loved her voice, her singing, and her personality. She was a really sweet girl who loved those orphans and wanted to take care of them, even dreaming of making a yellow rice paddy for all of them. Yes, she was a prostitute, but this is in the Edo period, remember. Women at the time were treated terribly. Not just in Japan, but in many countries around the 1500′s era. So prostitution was the only job she could get. And poor Mio thought of herself as filthy for her job, but Hyakki wanted to let her know she wasn’t a filthy whore she thought she was. Yet those... those fucking samurai! Dammit! Okay, he had EVERY reason to love her.
Too edgy/emo
Tumblr media
That word is EXTREMELY overused. Plus, emo isn’t really a thing in Japan. It’s more of a western thing. I believe that Japan uses the term "kuudere” or “tsundere” to describe those characters’ personalities.  Also, wouldn’t you be “emo” or “edgy” if you had your father sacrifice you to demons for power and manipulate almost all his people into thinking you were the evil one just so he could have a wealthy city and the such? Yeah, I think so.
Calling Jukai “Mama”
Oh, for fuck’s sake! To his definition, a mother is someone who loves and treasures her child. He was never able to feel a mother’s love from a woman, thanks to his asshole father not giving a shit about his mother’s feelings. Daigo just threw the poor boy out like he was a broken toy and severely damaged Nui. To top things off, he treats her like shit. Jukai, on the other hand, was able to take care of Hyakki for 16 years. And he was/is a very loving father to him. I thought it was cute and sweet of Hyakkimaru to say that because he loves him very much!
And that wraps up my defense for this sweet, precious boy.

I want to ask some canon interactions for bonding time ^^
Of course!! I’ll do some for each generation!! This… ended up longer than expected kjdfbgkj
93rd generation
-Mitsuru is often invited by Ethan to join them on Matchmaking Night!! This is because other students get talked about and he might want to know bout it!!-Matchmaking Night isn’t only filled with love [mostly but], but they talk about random facts about other people that can help them in matchmaking [they either reason for a ship or just “hell, it seems cute- i’m in”-Mitsuru ends up blushing every time Miray asks him if there is anyone special to him at the moment.-He ends up also telling his opinion because Hang asks him constantly. She also informs him that he should be less shy because once he comes, he’s included in the Soaring Land Family!!-Has a lot of gold stars?? He’s actually very happy about it??
92nd generation
-Erina is always invited to be the judge for cooking contests, but she usually rejects the offer because she’s very busy.-Soma gets invited by Sung to join in any of the days if he wishes, he usually comes in on the Cooking Contests, but it’s funny because he ends up as a judge but cooks anyway.-Megumi is invited by Yuliya on Game Night!! Megumi first feels nervous until table tennis is brought up and she spots Isshiki. They don’t come every Tuesday though!! They go every now and then.-Sometimes the whole PSD pay them a visit [normally Game Night because Megumi and Isshiki come over]-Shun is the silent killer in the card game “UNO”, the moment he places down the card and says “UNO”, you know you’re dead [even if it’s a card game, it’s still a game- so card games are technically two days kfbjg]-Marui is the one who’ll rather stay out of the mess and he ends up talking to Mi about books and stuff until she goes back in the game-Ryoko and Dai discuss about alcohol and fermentation, Dai even makes her drink sometimes. Masae has to always hug the bottle of vodka so NO ONE would end up drinking it. She doesn’t want anyone drunk when there’s a school day tomorrow.-However, Yuki and Masae do talk about hunting!! They really enjoy talking to each other about that and then there’s Shizua who joins them sometimes!!-Shoji and Daigo try to beat each other in every game, and the whole dorm place their bets on who wins.-Soma usually talks to Sung while this happens, but he also ends up joining in the fun!! Wishes they all came during cooking contests instead.-Some play “Cards Against Humanity” and they have deemed that card game as “Illegal for Shizuya, Hang and Megumi”-Nao is invited by Tatsuya to join them in Cooking Contests !! She actually does, but not too often!! They’re surprised with how bad the food smells like but they believe it’s very good!!-Miyoko is invited by Everlyn, and she usually rejects the offer!! She goes there in the future though, but only rarely.-Alice [accompanied by Ryou and Hayama, not by choice] go there on movie night!! The three just watch together and Hayama asks if he can leave but then Shizuya tells him he can’t since the movie started. He is trapped.-Hisako also gets invited on movie night by Shizuya, but this is for the ship moment of Hisako and Hayama.-Mimasaka goes there by random ever since Shizuya invited him, but every dorm mate laughs too much every time he tries to imitate one of them and there’s Kaoru who goes “NO, NO. NO! DON’T DO THAT??” when he’s the one getting copied
91st generation
-Nene gets invited for cooking contests!! She often rejects the offer, but when they say she gets to judge Soba, and later on cook Soba to show them who’s the best in it, she joins!! She tells Dai to shut up a lot though and he ends up laughing too much.-Kuga doesn’t need to be invited?? Sometimes he randomly comes up and joins in the whole thing!! He likes talking with the fellow 91st generation who’s there but he keeps snapping at Kaoru who jokingly calls him small. He has the MOST gold stars. He’s proud of it.-Eizan is invited, but he often rejects it. I mean, what do you expect? He’s a busy man.-As said before, Isshiki comes in Game Night sometimes!! Also the whole PSD come with him so they can be included!! Plus the power of youth is strong when they interact with one another, why would he miss the chance? He enjoys every minute of it and he’s really happy they have this kind of thing!!-Rentaro, Mea, Rui and Shigemichi usually come in music night!! Only because Mea wants to join in singing with them and Rentaro would often be seen as someone who plays the guitar!! I headcanon that Rui and Shigemichi could also play instruments, but they’ll rather not show that [they show it in the future]-Tetsuji is invited by Kaoru!! He comes in also by random, but he gets the whole schedule memorized. He sometimes has to watch over them and he actually finds it fun being with them?? Has to place alcohol away sometimes though, because he always spots it somewhere.-I headcanon Shouko to be sporty and competitive!! He canonly likes tennis, so I wanted to base it on that!! Usually she’s quiet and soft spoken, like that mother who never tells her children to do anything unless it’s going too far. If it comes to cooking, she tries to keep on a stern face, but after she’s just in pure relief when she wins. However, when a game is brought up- it’s all out the window, she’s in it to WIN it!! She likes proving herself, and if she had a chance- she would. So expect her in game night.
90th generation
-Eishi is usually too tired to come, but he comes by random days once Rindou tries and pull him into the whole thing. He actually enjoys Movie Night?? Also Cards Night?? He doesn’t know how he enjoys it but he does!! Also cooking contests?? He really likes that one too!!-Rindou enjoys EVERY day, she’s been to each one at least once!! Okay, maybe not all. Sunday is pretty boring, she sees them studying on the floor and discussing about stuff. But well!! She thinks it’s really fun, and she was glad that she was invited by Mi!!-Momo at first, didn’t see the point of coming but as soon as Lina brings up “Matchmaking Night”, she immediately asks her about the details about it. She ends up showing on this Night, together with Somei. She enjoys hearing their opinions about their ships, and also herself.-Looks at Somei and says “I told you so, Somyan” when they agree with the possibility of her ship being real. Somei just stares and wonders how the hell it’s possible but goes with whatever they think. He doesn’t have a real opinion.-Somei goes there for cooking contests!! But there are occasions he goes there for a bit on Saturday because he sees people practicing marital arts, and he would help them in any way?? Also teaches them about the Bushido Code. They love hearing about it.-Megishima rarely comes, not really seeing a reason why to come, but since Tatsuya rarely offers something, he goes there once. He’s probably one of the ones who rarely comes the most, but the whole dorm has a contest on “whoever makes him smile first wins”

Special Valentines Day Post...
... Zi-O 22 subbed.
Okay, maybe special in name only.
... I’m kinda scared, actually.
In no order:
GTFO Kuro Woz, I’m mad at you right now.
Poor Sougo gets Rider Kicked out of the Mirror World. Poor baby. DX
GEIZ! HONEY! BABY! You’re fine, stop it! God, why are you like this? I mean, I love you, but... Honey. Stop. Tsukuyomi, smack him. Actually don’t, that wouldn’t help.
God he’s so dramatic, though. I mean, it’s Geiz. Can’t do anything by halves here.
Okay. Wow. That was... Actually kinda a jerk thing to say, Tsukuyomi. Talk about not helpful. So he was wangsting a little, you didn’t have to go there.
Like, Geiz is upset bc he was looking at things purely as a, well, soldier, and briefly considered going through w/ Shiro Woz’s idea to stop the attacks and other people getting hurt, and is clearly being like ‘I’m such a terrible person for this.’ He expresses this to Tsukuyomi, and her response is ‘Yeah, Sougo didn’t even think about it.’ Like... I’m sorry, what? He’s clearly hurting over this already and all you say is basically imply ‘yeah, you’re not as good as Sougo’???? I will totally buy that she didn’t actually mean it that way, but that was very much how it sounded. You really couldn’t say something like ‘Sure, maybe you thought about it, but you didn't go through w/ it, why don’t you consider that?’ Man, no wonder he’d turned away from her when they camerawomen pulled back...
And then she just follows it up w/ asking about if he thinks Sougo will become Puma Zi-O. Tsukuyomi, how about comforting your friend a little? You’ve apparently got enough compassion to save the life of the person who murders your father in the future, but you can’t be bothered to show any for someone who is allegedly your childhood friend? Sweetie, I love you, really, but... Really?
Especially since it’s immediately followed by Ryuga attacking someone else. Like... Yes, I don’t agree w/ Shiro Woz’s plan, it probably wouldn’t work and sacrificing an innocent person is never a good course. But I can totally understand Geiz, esp given his background, thinking about it, given the circumstances (since there’s apparently no other way to beat Ryuga w/out a Kamikaze attack). He deserved a better response than essentially being told Sougo was a better person.
Again, I absolutely want to think she didn’t mean it that way. But that was what it sounded like to me.
Speaking of Sougo... Eh, he’s fine.
Alright, I may been a little annoyed at Tsukuyomi rn, but her and Geiz’s reactions in this scene remain gold.
Geiz just closing his eyes like ‘someone please shoot me...’
Also, the urge to punch something is just emanating from him in waves...
Sougo’s just lying there giggling like ‘whelp, no way out of this one...’
I... I thought you guys established this in the previous ep...
Oh, I’m sorry Tsukuyomi, you care now? Okay, okay. I’m being overly critical, I know. That earlier scene just really hit a nerve for me.
Sou is really cute, and also really good at the ‘sad puppy’ kind of look.
Geiz teleports to the front door again.
THANK YOU SOUGO. See? THAT’S a good response, Tsukuyomi. Not something that’s basically a guilt-trip. You want to mention it after, fine. It’s something to consider in the ‘will Sougo become Puma Zi-O’ brainstorming, absolutely. But you could’ve at least tried to reassure him a bit first, so it doesn’t, you know, come across as you telling him he’s a bad person compared to Sougo.
Again, I’m really sorry for going on about this one little thing. Like I said, hit a nerve.
Has Sougo tried to sacrifice himself at this point? Like, I don’t doubt he would, but... I guess she’s just saying theoretically? Or she’s referring to the ‘take me out if I go evil thing?’
Oh, wait, I guess he did try to kill his future self. I don’t know if that counts, though.
This is sweet and all, Tsukuyomi, but I’m still mad about what you said to Geiz.
I think ‘subjects’ is just gonna be Sougo’s little cute-though-also-obnoxious personal tic...
Now really starting to wonder if the ‘reason’ Sougo becomes Puma Zi-O was just... Always destined to be tied to Geiz somehow? I have wild and unlikely theories, but...
Angry puppy is yelling at sad puppy.
Seriously, as long as it’s also Sou I can’t feel threatened by Mirror¡Sougo.
Still trying to get used to Shiro Woz.
So... Did he write that, or... Did it appear? If you wrote it... Well, like I said. He’s strangely tolerable for this episode.
Oh, yeah, and:
WAGA KYUURANGERS.
Make up your mind, dude. Are you for helping, or not?
I still say bring back Woz.5.
Well... Technically he’s Kamen Rider Ryuki... Was... You know what, not gonna go into it. I already spoiled Ryuki up the wazoo in my Raw post.
I’m not even listening, I’m just watching him make the Shinji faces. XD
dude, it’s literally an evil, warped version of you. I’ve met the real you, he’s a sweetheart. Even Ron liked him. And Ron didn’t like anyone.
I love how every time we see this fight now, it’s just Geiz sitting down somewhere watching Shiro Woz get blasted. Which is a valid pastime.
Puppy debate! ^^
Mirror¡Sougo has the cutest ‘evilly confused’ face ever.
Still hoping for the thing to be that being a king doesn’t necessarily mean ‘ruling over’ people? If that makes sense? Like, he could be called the ‘King of Time’ bc he’s got powers over time, and it’s cool, rather than ruling it? Like, and I know many people didn’t like it, but, the way Daigo was nicknamed ‘King’ in Kyoryuger? He wasn’t a ‘king’ King, but he got called ‘king.’ If that makes any sense whatsoever.
See, I definitely believe she cares about him very much, but she really choose her words poorly in that scene, and I feel like she should apologise for that. Just a ‘I wasn’t trying to imply you were a bad person or Sougo was better than you, I was just considering what this meant for him in regards to Puma Zi-O.’
Aaaagh! There I go again! Man, that one line just really got under my skin somehow...
Love how it does, like, a little laser-pointer effect.
WAGA KYUURANGERS.
In my defence, I wrote the most recent chapters of It Is The Clock’s Pendulum before this episode came out.
This scene is very serious, and heartbreaking, and sad. Geiz is my favourite.
...
I am losing it at Another Ryuga just chilling over by the tree.
Shiro Woz.exe has stopped functioning.
Weird sound effects when Sougo shows up???
Still wish they coulda given him more of a reaction. He does kinda do the sad puppy look, I suppose. Still.
Also wish Tsukuyomi could have had a better response to Geiz earlier... Can I just pretend those things happened?
How did he see the future? Did he just... Turn into Zi-O II on the way over? What does that even MEAN?
Sougo: ‘Fuck this timeline!’
The brief Woz-Fight is still funny. during this episode, I’d actually prefer that Shiro Woz win. But just for this episode.
I would always prefer that Woz.5 win.
I love how Geiz just... Doesn’t deHenshin. Like, He and Tsukuyomi are trying to follow this battle, but he just... Refuses to drop his transformation. For whatever reason.
Seriously? Your sword has your face on it and it compliments you? Who made these?
Yeah, Geiz is just literally blaming himself here. What do you mean ‘this time’ though? I guess... You mean all the times it was Woz? I actually think we can totally blame this on Woz, too. Though the Kamikaze stuff might have been a trigger, I’ll admit.
No, wait. What am I saying. This is obviously Decade’s fault.
The fact that it literally is is the best part.
Tsukuyomi, would it kill you to not let Geiz blame himself for everything this episode? -_-
Though I guess this is the ‘Tsukuyomi is suddenly weirdly angry’ scene...
Like... I’m really starting to think this is personal. I guess this is the power he used to kill her father? Pity we never brought that up before.
Though now that I think about it, that could be it. Puma Zi-O did use some sort of time-stop-manipulation ability when he dusted Dad, so that might be why she’s reacting like this.
Geiz, on the other hand, is really unsure.
Tsukuyomi, are you really that shocked that people have darker sides to them? You never met Kisaragi Gentaro, you have no excuse for (apparently) assuming Sougo has no traits that would ever lead to him becoming Puma Zi-O in some way.
Though I am admittedly not clear on what exactly those traits were... I guess his habit of being wily and the fact that wanting to be ‘king’ comes w/ wanting power? So... Ambition is evil here? I dunno.
I guess it’s all or nothing w/ Tsukuyomi. Though she could specifically be referring to ‘We have to actually decide whether or not we’re gonna kill him’ rather than saying ‘we should kill him.’ TV show cliffhanger tactic, make everything round more threatening than it actually is.
It’d be interesting if she and Geiz do switch up, though. Bc he’s the one who was super black and white (no references to any Wozes intended) about it at the start. ‘If I even think you’re going to turn into Puma Zi-O, I’m taking you out,’ and how quick he was to go for it in the Genm arc. But here... He seems really uncertain still (probably not helped by the fact that Sougo did this to save his life), while for Tsukuyomi, a line has clearly been crossed. It’d be an interesting way to twist things up if they do go that way.
Oh, yeah, and the two times Tsukuyomi talks at the camera this ep are still creepy.
I’m winder if the look Geiz just gave her was meant to be a ‘wtf?’ look. Bc it kinda looks like one? It also could be something else, I dunno. Maybe he’s just looking serious.
SHUT UP KURO WOZ.
I love how we don’t even see him, Kamen Rider Kikaider just freaking steals the shot.
Also, hi Kikaider!
Why is he punching me, though?
Freaking Zi-O II Watch is freaking huge in the end cap.
Kamen Rider Zi-O takes notes from LuPat and only schedules this actor for two episodes.
Man, he’s very good looking, though. Even in that outfit. Bet he uses the wrench to transform.
The fact that this ep ended w/ Tsukuyomi, of all people, apparently saying they need to kill Sougo (like I said, could just be a cliffhanger scare-tactic), then it goes to the preview of Sougo running around w/ some sort of ‘studying’ bandana on (I assume it’s studying bc the summary said he’s cramming for finals, essentially. Or midterms.) talking to some dude in a yellow turtle neck and a denim jacket that’s just a little too short. Whiplash.
Oh, wow, he’s from 2121? So that makes him the first/only future Rider we’ve had that’s from after the year that Geiz, Tsukuyomi, and the Wozes come from (in any timeline)!
Also interesting, bc it means he definitely won’t be around in any way in 2019. Not even as a baby.
Oh, hey, Sworz. I... Honestly almost forgot about you. Sorry!
This preview is trying to make me think the boys are competing, and I refuse to accept it until proven.
Or if it is, maybe it’s friendly. Or maybe it’s just ‘let’s both fight this thing, and, I dunno, one of us can take it down.’
My guess is Sworz is talking to Shiro Woz, but my knee-jerk reaction was ‘no, I don’t want to play a game w/ you.’
That’s all, folks! Virtual pond cake for anyone who read all that.
Anyway, I’m sorry I had such a reaction to that one line (well, two, kinda) of Tsukuyomi’s. It reminded me of a bad experience I had once and just really got on my nerves. I promise I still love her, and I know she does care about Geiz. I think some of her reaction to the Zi-O II power may have been bc of (well, I at least presume he was) her father? Bc remember, Puma Zi-O used the time powers to vaporise everyone, and he pushed her into the trench to protect her? So this may be her being like ‘I want to believe in him, but that’s the power that I literally watched kill my father, so now I’m freaking out.’ Also, it’s a beloved style of cliffhanger for any sort of tv show to make things sound more threatening than they really are. I dunno if Toei even remembers that (WHO IN TIME IS GOGGLES THE DEAD PERSON?), but that’s my initial thought.
Geiz looks super unsure, though? Like I think a line was crossed w/ Tsukuyomi now, but the line started crossed w/ Geiz. And I feel like it’s been getting... Uncrossed? Like, he started this so certain of what he needed to do and what was going to happen (I still think his plan was to go back, do it as quickly as possible, then get out before he had a chance to think about the fact that 2018 Sougo was still technically innocent, bc he knew he’d be too conflicted if he did), but he’s been steadily becoming less convinced of it? So, like, even now, he’s the one who’s still thinking they can still change things? Oh, well. We’ll see.
Special treat for anyone who actually read all this way (or just skipped to the bottom; in that case don’t read any further! No JK, you’re fine, I ramble a lot, I’m sorry), is a random concept/theory I had: What if Sougo’s recurring dreams when time is ‘altered’ (Shinobi, and now Kikaider no I will not stop) indicate that he’s somehow... Super connected to time? Like... If it were electricity, he’d be a conductor, or something? But then, like, Geiz and Tsukuyomi aren’t like that, but they’re like... ‘Anchors.’ Like, there are people who are sensitive to time, and kind of ‘flow’ w/ it, but then there anchors who keep them/it moored/grounded or something? Feel like this was a thing in Den-O, but I don’t remember the details. But, like the reason Sougo is able to get all these ‘time powers’ is bc he’s so sensitive to it? But it also means that it’s really easy for him to get... I dunno, absorbed by the time flow? And, like, Anchors can’t get all the wild powers, but they also are either impossible or significantly more resilient to the time flow? So, like... The wouldn’t get erased/absorbed (at least, not right away/as fast) if they like... Fell into the time stream? Augh! I’m bad at explaining. Point is, Sougo nearly gets absorbed into time stream, but the other two pull him back bc they’re anchors and they ground him in a particular time/location/time plane.
I don’t think that made any sense.

I started this on my lunch break, still gotta rewatch to be coherent but wanted to put down some bullet points of Feelings!!!
The bottom line is I did like Bokura no Mirai, because I think the Tri writers are good, BUT I think half of the issues in BoM were their hands being tied by the limited time left, and the other half simply planning way too much. Both are amateur mistakes and yet anime movies routinely make them, so I’m not as strict as I should be.
As an aside, my personal theory for this movie was that Taichi would let the two worlds merge. I thought he was going to shock everyone by choosing not to stop it, letting the worlds merge sans reboot, and that would result in humans and digimon living in harmony. It’s an unfinished theory obviously, since it supposes a different outcome of the merge than Yggdrasil believes will happen, and also because even if the world was fine after, we’d lose the future where there are two worlds and Taichi needs to be an ambassador between them. But that’s what I was expecting, something of that nature anyway, let’s say. I suppose I’m overly influenced by Tsubasa Chronicle lol.
k now for some highs and lows!!!
HIGHS
TAKERU, MAGNAANGEMON AND DEVIMON!!!! There is NOTHING like Takeru angst. omg. Not for me anyway. No other character’s trauma hit me the way Takeru still carries the burden of what happened to his partner in their very first boss battle.
People predicted Nishijima’s death but I did NOT. I thought of course he was going to be reunited with Himekawa. So this will figure in my “lows” section as well, but as for his apparent death itself, I was moved. But it’s also totally unfair and it’s more of a low than a high for Reasons. But it still deserves a mention here.
Mimi telling Meiko (and the others) to stop blaming themselves. I like Meiko, I do, but I was really annoyed with her when Hikari was feeling guilty and Meiko just had to feel guilty for that. It’s par for the course with her, and I was really defensive of her last movie - I think it was the way it felt like she was using Hikari’s distress to vent her own feelings that bothered me this time around. That being said, I certainly empathize with her and with Hikari, and I’m glad Mimi was so nice and caring about it. (Her line would have been perfectly suited to Sora - our Mimi is growing up!)
The cute moments with the Digimon - glad we still got some of those.
Yamato and Gabumon’s conversation on the balcony was UGH. So great. They’re probably my favorite partner relationship since Adventure. It was so IC and so perfect. I could cry at how sweet and sensitive and full of resilience Gabumon was. Just like his partner.
Also Yamato’s heartbreak over Taichi was sOOOO strong!! And then we they reunite he’s just like, “You’re late.” And you know what I thought of? Rini in the dub Sailor Moon movie. Hahahaha. I had actually hopped for a sweet moment between Taichi and Yamato but... well they stared at each other dramatically for a while, I guess that counts *cough*
KOUSHIROU was MAGIC. Part of me is like “fake science is fake!” but the other part is like “lol but if anyone could make fake science real it’d be Koushirou!” I love that, even when the others weren’t being forward about rejecting the reboot, and Yamato even implied that if Taichi thought it was the way to spare the most sacrifices he would do it, Koushirou was the one who emphatically said “NO!”
Hikari and everything about her. I love that she told Taichi she might not be able to forgive him. And I love that she said “thats why i’m going to fight alongside you.” And her expression during that last battle. It was the same determined look as Taichi’s. There are still a billion questions about her and Meiko as well, why what happened happened, maybe on second viewing I’ll understand more, but... I think it’s mostly “digimon lore” stuff that may never get explained.
Taichi’s phone call to Meiko at the end and the way the other kids acted. Of course I always love flustered and embarrassed Taichi. For the first time, I thought I could ship Meichi after the way Taichi called her and then did nothing but grunt and made her do all the work of carrying the conversation herself xD That boy is hopeless!
Also, Taichi in general. I’m still..... not quite sure what happened. Not quite sure what the takeaway is supposed to be. He was rescued by Nishijima after Yggdrasil’s life or death survival game, and came back to the real world... and chose to kill Meicoomon. In Kyousei, I was sad but on board because there did not appear to be any other day. I didn’t know what they’d do in Bokura no Mirai. Finales are often the age of miracles,  but on the other hand, as much as I wanted Meicoomon to reunite with Meiko, it would have been so underwhelming if everything just went back to normal with no sacrifices (oh yeah, Nishijima). So mixed feelings on how things played out. But one thing I do know is that I loved Taichi the entire time. I love that he’s not a straight up hero. He can do things that make his little sister say she’ll never forgive him. And he can be the kindest bravest person around. Right or wrong, I can’t help but like him.
LOWS
One thing - a lot of my lows result from things that went unanswered or at least I didn’t understand it last night.
The story quite simply does not feel complete. It’s not even a feeling - it isn’t complete. What the hell was Yggdrasil’s comments about Daemon and whatever at the end. A joke? I didn’t really get the feeling. Was that dark cube some variety of dark spore? Or the one from Adventure? Also, we don’t get to find out what happened to real Gennai (or did I just miss it)? Up till now I never believed it was really him... maybe that was wishful thinking... but why tho
Taichi’s character development arc. He got a LOT. And I do love it overall, but I’m not quite sure I understand it. I suppose the simple answer is, he’s going to be an ambassador, and an ambassador needs to be able to negotiate, to see things in shades of gray, and (ok waxing poetical here but) to understand that life and death are a balance. Idk. I’m a Star Trek fan, “the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many” usually results in intergalactic shenanigans to steal whales from a different time. And who doesn’t love that?
Part of me just needed more... Idk, closure I suppose? about Meiko and Meicoomon after everything they went through. I wanted Meiko to be a bigger character in the finale movie. I’m surprised by that since I wasn’t warm to her in the beginning, but it feels wrong that in the end, all she got was a sweet farewell. It was very sweet! And heartbreaking! And I’m not exactly angry that Meicoomon was lost, but after 5 movies leading up to it, it just felt... i dunno, it lacked the sense of relief I was looking for. (However, I sometimes feel these things differently on rewatch. This is a scene I’ll be looking out for.)
The 02 gang’s been missing... like the said in Saikai. OK fine. Why didn’t the kids ever try to contact them beyond that one visit to Ken’s house?? Why weren’t they concerned that none of them were like “Hello, we heard digimon are raising hell, can we help?” That is the question folks. Tri definitely did NOT need more characters to juggle, but heck, “they’re all camping in a remote island with no electricity!” would have been a better excuse for why no one notices they’re not around.
Daigo’s death. Like I said, it was a hero’s death, and for that it was awesome. But a lot of the reasons why it was awesome were inferences. Like, Taichi was just like “whoa?” when nishijima was like “oh yeah maki’s disappeared she lost her mind searching for her dead partner.” This should have been way bigger news. I don’t see why they wouldn’t be intensely curious about their predecessors - yeah big world shaking battle is gonig on so I get it not being on the back burner, but it was totally just shoehorned in. No thank you! Daigo deserved better.
MAKI DIDN’T EVEN APPEAR. I had been so worried about her but I thought the worst that would happen would be she’d do something to redeem herself and die! But nope! She’s not there AT ALL. And Daigo’s DEAD! Honestly it wouldn’t be SO bad if we could be sure this wasn’t the end... because it just feels like there’s so much story left to tell, including theirs. The Original Chosen in Tri are more like a summary of “a fanfic I’d like to write someday.” Better to just not have included them. Found some different way to cause the reboot. They were treated worse in the end than the 02 kids, frankly.
one last quibble... Essentially no Taishiro. :( :( :( I mean just platonic moments. Just one would have been good! Oh well.
i’m totally leaving things out but that’s all I’ve got for the moment. rewatch imminent

What about Daigo and Wakiya? I feel like those two have had the most character development.
Tumblr media
Aw man, gonna have to get around to Wakiya a little bit later because you are absolutely right first Anon, Dyna and Wakiya are both crazy complicated. Just Dyna alone is going to make this post long as hell, ahaha.
Dyna
Tumblr media
[Yeah, I know I spell his name wrong. It’s just the way EVERYONE initially thought it was supposed to be spelled, before the official descriptions came out. I just kept spelling it that first way like a stubborn bitch, though. I think I’m the only one who still does this.]
I love Dyna! I love how he looked and even acted so, so much like an Obvious Bad Guy when he first showed up, and then…he wasn’t. At all. He was a sweet kid trying to make his sick little brother proud of him. Dyna is one of the nicest kids in the show, but he cracks and makes really bad decisions under pressure.
Honestly, I think a lot of his initial ruthless, underhanded, “whatever it takes to win” mindset really was based around just trying to keep his brother happy. Souta looks up to Dyna so much. Dyna didn’t want to disappoint him by losing. He was trying to be the perfect, “cool” role model who always wins.
At first, Dyna seemed to have been a firm believer in the logic of “it doesn’t matter if it’s bad if you’re doing it for a good enough reason.” [with his “good enough reason” here being to “appear strong and cool and inspiring” for his little bro]. That belief changed, though. When the guilt built up. He did eventually realize that the “cool guy who always wins” is not cool at all if he had to manipulate someone or outright cheat in order to get that win. More precisely, Dyna realized that if Souta ever found out about all the nasty things Dyna had been doing to win, Souta would be ashamed of him, not proud of him. And Dyna was only doing those bad things out of desperation to keep up that cool, strong image for Souta, so if doing what he did would actually BREAK that image INSTEAD of uphold it, there was no reason to do it at all and it was suddenly just shitty for no reason. [Did that make sense? That was an awfully run-on sentence just now :/ I think Dyna always knew the bad things he did were bad, but he did them anyway for Souta, and then stopped when he understood that Souta would not want him to behave that way.]
So yeah, Dyna eventually understood that his “whatever it takes to win” mindset was deeply flawed, because winning in a dishonorable way just wasn’t worth it [in his case]. It had the potential to produce the exact OPPOSITE of the effect he wanted. You can’t be a good role model with shit morals like that. Losing gracefully and trying again later is more respectable than winning by cheating. Souta would be more proud of him for that.
Also at first, Dyna tried to distance himself from the bad things he did, likely as a way to try to keep himself from feeling guilt over them. Like he was just trying to forget he did it. As the biggest example of that, he tried his damndest to just outright avoid Valt after their first major battle, which Dyna had tried to win with underhanded tactics. Valt had to literally tenaciously chase him all around school just to get the guy to eventually give up and socialize with him.
But when Dyna finally let go of that “do whatever it takes, even if it’s shitty” thing, he could then also let go of trying to avoid the guilt from doing something bad. So that guilt hit him HARD, probably as hard as it did because there was a lot of it pent-up. After the cheating thing in his battle with Yugo, his self-esteem totally crashed and he nearly gave up beyblading altogether, thinking he wasn’t good enough for his Deathscyther. Dyna was convinced he was such an awful person that even his beyblade should be ashamed of him. He couldn’t stand it.
So he tried to make it right. He swallowed all of his pride, and trekked all the way up that mountain to solemnly, sincerely apologize to Yugo in person. He practically groveled. Like “I did a horrible, terrible thing and god I really don’t even deserve to be forgiven for it do I, but I am so sorry. I’m bowing out of the tournament, and you’re taking my place. It’s the least I can do. I’m so sorry.” He tried so hard to fix his fuckup in the best way he could. And damn, it hurt me when Yugo did, in fact, refuse to forgive him for it. Dyna was hating himself so much over this, wondering if he even deserved forgiveness at all over the incident [and honestly cheating the way he did was…pretty minor. It’s not like he broke all of the guy’s fingers so he couldn’t hold his launcher or anything. Dyna just…flashed a light in his face], so this irrational asshole actually NOT forgiving him [over inane, outdated “warrior code” bullshit, too] must have really stung hard.
But when Dyna doesn’t feel like he has to be an aloof hardass…he’s also a really damn good friend. He tends to play the mediator when teammates [Boss and Wakiya…] start bickering too hard, and he also paid pretty constant attention to Shuu when Shuu really needed it. Because Shuu was there for Dyna when he needed it. Shuu tried to help him when he was in the middle of a huge struggle, so Dyna tried to repay Shuu for that when he saw that Shuu was obviously in the middle of some shit. They’re just…there for eachother. They’re both generally pretty quiet, but they talk to eachother. Mutual moral support. Sometimes the person who is best suited to get you through hell has been there themself.
Also we didn’t see AS much of Dyna in s2, but he’s a really good team leader?? He whipped his damn team into shape fast, but without being super harsh about it so they don’t all hate him, haha. Constructive criticism and “Get up off yo lazy asses and come run around the block with me” did the trick. His team loves and respects him. Dyna’s team, which I absolutely cannot for the life of me remember the name of, is a damn good team.
And I’m so proud of him for being SO GOOD at beyblading now, playing completely fair? He’s so smart, he’s a fantastic tactician. Did you see that crazy shit he pulled on Black Eye in the Snake Pit? That was so creative. And he deserved to fucking win against Joshua that one time dammit, not to lose on a technicality. He’s doing so good. I don’t get why he just…wasn’t AROUND for such a big chunk of the latter part of the season though, considering the sorry state Shuu was in at the time. Because when Dyna DID show back up, the first thing he did was AGGRESSIVELY try to get through to Shuu and snap him out of the murderous stupor he was in. It didn’t WORK because Dyna didn’t really know exactly what was going on at this point so there’s no way he could’ve known the right thing to say there, but HE TRIED SO HARD, MAN. Just…where WAS he earlier, though. Did the writing team just forget about him for a few [several] months.
Dyna has absolutely had some of the most satisfying character development so far, though [and so has Wakiya]. Also he’s got that whole “creepy scary goth guy with a soft spot for cute animals” thing going on. Unquestionable 10/10.

BREAKERZ “X” Discussion/Rant
Honestly I just really want to talk about this album to somebody and since none of my friends care about this band neither do most of you, I’mma just post it here anyways.
First of all, I want to say that I’ve been looking forward to this album for roughly two years, aka since the release of their last album, ZERO. Especially after they kicked off their Tenth Anniversary Concert Series. The moment I realized that each band they challenged would have a part on the album, I began anticipating X more and more. Essentially, I love this band with all my heart and I always look forward to their new music. And this album in particular has really caught my attention. Every song is very well crafted and they all sound spectacular. I’m going to go More in depth about how I feel about all the songs later.
I don’t know if it was Daigo who thought of this or another band member or a third party, but Kudos to the double meaning, triple meaning and consistency of puns with the title of the album and songs. If you don’t get it, let’s go over them:
The Title of the Album : X
-X as in the Roman Numeral 10 for this being he Tenth Anniversary of BRRAKERZ as a band as well as having ten songs on the album.
-X as in Cross, because every song is a collaboration with another Japanese musician or group. So BREAKERZ x SKY-HI, for example.
The Song Titles (excluding GOD and She is Devil)
GREAT (pronounced in Japanese as GU-REI-ITU” Ambitious, featuring GLAY (pronounced GU-REI)
RODEO Drive featuring GRANRODEO
Black SKY featuring SKY-HI
GOLDEN Night featuring GOLDEN Bomber
Koi no SUPER EXPRESS featuring 超特急 (which translates as SUPER EXPRESS)
TRIANGLE featuring TRIGNAL
Never Ending STORY featuring My First STORY
Hirari MAI chiru hana no youni featuring MAI Kuraki
Now, these are likely obvious to most of you, but I just find all of these cute play-on words commendable. They certainly put a lot of thought into this album and it shows.
Not only did a lot of thought go into the titles, but to the music as well. Each song was thoroughly enjoyable and beautiful for their own reasons and I adore each one.
GREAT AMBITIOUS was a great (pun intended) way to open up the album. The upbeat rock combined with the violins playing in the higher register felt to me very reminiscent of Ikusen no Meikyuu de, as well as Climber x (ha!!!) Climber. And from just the title I began thinking about WE GO, and I can imagine they both have similar themes. The song is very catchy even without really knowing the meaning of the lyrics. Overall, it’s a fun piece.
RODEO DRIVE. I don’t know if it’s just me, or does this song feel a whole lot like RUN AND RUN from ZERO? Yes, RUN AND RUN was specially written because Daigo was doing the 24 Hour run thing on television, which was huge for him especially since that was the day he proposed to Keiko Kitagawa, but this song is just as upbeat and I can only imagine going on long jogs at sunset when I listen to it.
BLACK SKY. This one is in the running to be my favorite on the album along with two others. The guitar riffs kind of remind me of Daydreamer from the ZERO album. But the addition of SKY-HI’s rapping gives this song a whole different feeling. I’m not even sure how to describe it. The touch of electronic music seems out of place in this song. On the other hand, I absolutely adore the chorus. The pace and the progression of the notes just sounds so beautiful to me.
ゴールデンナイト〜黄金色に抱きしめて〜. Listen up I’m literally obsessed with this freaking song. There are so many musical elements and little nuances that I just UGH love so much, and it just. feels like a BREAKERZ song. But it also doesn’t. And it’s amazing. It’s as if BREAKERZ took 女々しくて (Golden Bomber’s most famous song) and then made a BREAKERZ song. Because it sounds like Memeshikute, but it also doesn’t.
恋のスーパーエクスプレス. I like this one, but it’s not my favorite on the album. And believe me, it’s a nice song. Very j-pop-y, and when you collaborate with a jpop group that’s the kind of sound you tend to get. It’s a cute song, and in a few senses it reminds me Smile 100% and Arigatou Beautiful Day. You know, very pop-rock, sweet. You just really feel like smiling while you listen to it. A nice contrast to songs like She is Devil, Golden Night, And GOD.
Triangle. I enjoy the beginning of this one more so than the rest of it. The instrumental introduction is very pleasing. The clarinet I found especially pretty. It’s quite clever that it’s called Triangle and the rhythm is in 3. I can’t decide if it sounds more like a carnival song or a french drinking ballad. Really it’s a combination of both. Trignal narrating adds a nice touch. Also a sweet song.
NEVER ENDING STORY. I love this song a lot. It feels like BREAKERZ is going back to their roots a bit. I hear a lot of influence from many of their songs from GO and FIGHTERZ. Very fast paced. It feels a lot like DAIGO’s Mugen no Rebirth and other songs which were anime openings. And at the end of the chorus, it sounds like Daigo is referencing the melody from Maria, back in his DAIGO STARDUST days.
She is Devil. The only non-collaboration song on the album. And gosh, when I listened to it the first time, the first thing I thought of was Miss Mystery. She is Devil is written as if it’s the sequel song to Miss Mystery, and boy it brings back memories of classic BREAKERZ, back when I first discovered their music, and I felt like crying. I particularly enjoyed this song because it’s the only one on the album that is exclusively BREAKERZ. I mean, of course it’s great that they had all these collaborators, but it is an album celebrating ten years together as a band, and it wouldn’t be right if they didn’t write a song for them and only them.
ひらり舞い散る花のように. THIS. SONG. IS . GORGEOUS! I was in love with it after only hearing the teaser of it that BREAKERZ posted to YouTube. It’s quite possibly my favorite song BREAKERZ has ever written. Daigo is known for his recognizable voice, so full of emotion in every syllable, and this is a perfect example of the extraordinary power his voice has in carrying melodies, in ballads especially. I notice that while their ballads are never their most popular, they’re always my favorites. The acoustic guitar, the strings! The harmonies, the percussion. They all come together and create this beautiful work of art. If you listen to no other song on this album, make this the one you listen to.
GOD. The first time I read about DAIGO writing GOD and performing it at the BREAKERZ vs. VAMPS concert, I burst out laughing, and saying “aw Daigo, you Hyde super fan.” Only someone dangerously devoted to their idol would write and perform a song in their honor about how they worship them. But listening to the emotion in his voice as I finally got a first listen to GOD, I understand precisely why he wrote it, and I understand the sentiment. This song is written for Hyde, but it says exactly what many of us feel for the artists and creators and public figures that we look up to.
This album revived my love of the band. In the two years between albums, so much happened. I experienced the worst depressive episodes of my life, my anxiety worsened, and I was hating life for a long time. Of course, good things happened as well, I rediscovered my love of musical theater, worked on a lot of shows, became a better musician. Daigo got married, started becoming more popular than ever. So much happened. Along the way, I listened to them less and less. But after this album came out, I feel like I remember the way I felt when I first discovered BREAKERZ, and I remembered what it felt like to really love a band. I’m so thankful for this band and for Daigo and Akihide and Shinpei. And I’m so thankful that they’ve been together as long as they have been. Ten years is a milestone, and while was only on board for four years, I harbor a deep appreciation for the band as much as any other fan, even those who were with them from the beginning.

🌹😑💔 💩: ✌ 💚 💙👅👎 💤: 💘: 💦: 💣t: 👀: 💖 because i love youuu cookie~
Awwwwwwwe, thanks girl!!! ^^
Ship that you have as an OTP (🌹): Victor/Yuuri [Yuri on Ice]
They kissed. It’s canon.
Ship that you’re indifferent to (😑): Rose/Alisha [Tales of Zestiria]
I don’t mind this ship at all. More moments between them would’ve help explain it a little more, though. Oh well… at least we got a nice moment between them, (and Sorey/Mikleo) at the end of the show~
Ship that makes you sad (💔): Taki/Mitsuha [Kimi No Na Wa]
I will try not to spoil anything, here, but let’s just say that the ending left a lot of mixed feelings for me, mostly happiness and sadness. It was a good ending. I just felt bad for these two characters, especially after everything they’d been through. But, in the end, I suppose everything worked out.
Ship that you find disgusting (💩): Ayase/Kanou [Okane Ga Nai]
This is my own personal opinion, but I just can’t get behind this one. The “uke” looks like a little boy, from his big eyes to his tiny body. And, then you have his partner, Kanou, who looks like a fucking beast compared to him, practically twice his height and the size of a car!
I know some people like this anime and I tried to watch it. But, every time I did, I just can’t. The couple’s relationship felt very forced and, somewhat abusive to me, due to the way Kanou used money and guilt to keep Ayase with him, as well as sleep with him… which, to me, not only hinted toward prostitution… upon an eighteen-year-old boy who LOOKS LIKE HE’S TWELVE… but also pedophilia… mainly because on how the “uke” was designed to look more like a child and the “seme” was designed to look more like a full grown adult…
If you like the show, that’s fine. The two main characters are, technically, of age when it comes to sex and whatnot, according to the author. And, to some, the hints toward prostitution and pedophilia might be stretch. Buuuuuut, this is where I stand with it.
Ultimately, I think it’s the designs that really get to me. If the story was more well-crafted and the designs were not so contrasting between the characters, especially the two main ones, then maybe I would’ve liked the show more.
Ship that you find cute but don’t ship (✌): Keith/Lance
Harmless ship with some adorable art, but I do like Keith/Shiro and Lance/Allura more.
Ship that you secretly like (💚): Amy/Yayoi [Zyuden Sentai Kyuranger]
%1000 times better than Daigo/Amy.
Ship that you used to have as an OTP (💙): Ryunosuke/Chiaki [Samurai Sentai Shinkenger]
This ship sunk a loooooong time ago. I don’t even remember why I shipped these two, but whatever. It was harmless and, in the end, I still have a mighty fleet by my side :3
Ship that you find most sexy (👅): Marvelous/Alata [Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger/Tensou Sentai Goseiger]
I know this one will seem weird to a lot of people because it’s not very popular. But, I love it.
As for the “sexy” part to this OTP… to put it simply, pirates and angels just seem like quite the combo for some creative and exciting moments in the bedroom ;)
Ship that you can never see happening (👎): N/Leo [VIXX]
I don’t know why, but I just don’t see these two as a couple. I know they have moments and fans point out the “chemistry” that’s between them. Yet, I still find myself not getting on the “Neo” ship.
If you ship it, more power to you. I just never understood or really cared for this couple at all.
Ship that is canon but you don’t ship (💤): Ayase/Kanou [Okane Ga Nai]
Enough said.
Ship that is unpopular but you still like (💘): Ravi/N [VIXX]
I can’t really explain it, seeing how these two have less moments than the famous “Neo” ship I mentioned earlier. I guess I just found their moments more endearing? Heart-warming? Something???
Yeeeeaaaah, I can’t really explain this one. Something about they way they talk with each other, interact, and so forth just made me think COUPLE one day. Eh, whatever.
Ship that is taboo (💦): Gou/Retsu [Jyuden Sentai Gekiranger]
In the show, these two are brothers. Despite this, though, throughout the season the two never really felt like a family, to me. They felt more like two childhood friends who magically reunited after years of being apart. They barely talked, never hung out, rarely had any moments together (with the exception of an episode or two), and just basically acted as though they hadn’t been separated from each other for the past ten years.
“Um, hello, one of you thought your brother was dead and the other basically lived without a family member by his side for a whole decade! And, we’re just going to pretend like nothing happened??? What the fuck???”
There was just… no connection between these two when it came to the whole “brothers” concept. It really was a letdown, in my opinion, and a huge missed opportunity for the show.
However, due to the lack of brotherly material and a random conversation I once had with a friend, these two later went from a failed concept to an OTP.
I won’t ramble any more about this but, let’s just say, these two getting rewritten as a couple would’ve been so much more interesting than the brotherly bullcrap we got in the show. At least there would be something, hopefully, more inclusive and endearing to explore, as well as a new concept to bring to the Super Sentai franchise.
Ship that pisses you off (💣): Rin/Souji [Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger]
To put it simply, I just didn’t see the chemistry between these two. Nothing screamed “romance” to me and, ultimately, pairing these two together just felt awkward and painful, especially with all those backpack swings. I know Souji was as oblivious to love as King was in this season, but I just found his relationship with Rin too uncomfortable and forced.
There are a few other reasons, but I’ll leave it at that. Simply, not a fan.
Ship you’re curious about (👀): Mikoto/Ryouga [Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger]
I’ve had friends tell me a lot about this ship and how cute it is. I’m indifferent toward it, mostly because I haven’t seen the show yet. But, I’m not opposed to the couple and I do want to give the show a try some day. Who knows, maybe then I’ll see what my friends were all talking about when it comes to this OTP.
Ship that needs more love (💖): Yoshino/Hatori [Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi]
I liked these two equally as much as the main couple in the series, maybe even a little more. I just wish the show and manga focused on them more.
Ship that is most misunderstood (💢): Ian/Souji [Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger]
The main reason I believe these two are misunderstood is because of the slight age gap (3-4 years) and the fact that they were presented as SUPER straight characters in the show. Yet, despite this, I always felt these two had more chemistry between each other than any other relationships they shared with other characters throughout the season.
I know I’m not the only one who felt this way since a little side project with these actors got the two to KISS. So, obviously, something unspoken had to have existed in their originally project together for the writers to be like, “Yeah, we fucked up there… but, here, NOT THIS TIME!”
