Chapter 2- The Empty City
Driving through the desert, Rupert realizes it’s getting dark, he looks to his side in the passenger seat to see Dave leaning against the glass with a tired look holding his hat. Rupert looks at him with a pitying look, he looks at the backseat in the rearview mirror, Henry was lying in the backseats looking at the ceiling, the metal bar was covered by his coat in which was bloody.
“when we arrive, the first thing we’re going to do is go to our houses and get what we can take with us, we’re not fucking going to stay in town with this infestation...” Dave agrees not saying nothing, Price sighs looking at his friend sympathetically. “look, it’s going to be ok, I promise...” he puts a hand on Dave’s shoulder still looking at the road ahead. Dave looks at him with a sad, scared look.
Rupert can see the city from afar, his eyes widen and Dave and Henry react the same way looking through the windshield of the car. There was smoke coming out of various parts of the city, they manage to check several truck cars at the entrance completely destroyed and some on fire. “what the fuck happened...” rupert asks whispering in disbelief.
Rupert continues driving, dodging the ones that were destroyed on the way until they enter the city. They looked out of the car windows, seeing the emptiness of the city they had lived in for most of their lives. "what the hell happened..?" Dave asks covering his mouth in shock at the state of the city. Rupert continues driving a few kilometers, they manage to avoid attracting attention from the things that infest the city, and arrive at a group of apartments on a street.
“What is this place?" Henry asked using sign language, surprising both Rupert and Dave as they were getting out of the car. "Oh, do you speak via sign language? Well…" Dave puts a hand to his chin wondering how to respond to him. "This is the apartment Dave lives in." Rupert coldly responds by closing the car door and heading towards Dave's apartment holding his pistol.
Dave turns to Rupert and follows him a little, He turns to him and looks in Henry's direction before following Rupert, "Rup, are you okay..?" Dave asks with an Expression of concern, Rupert looks at his friend before looking away. Dave could have sworn he saw an expression of cold guilt.
"Rup... Is this because of Johnny-" Dave is interrupted by rupert raising his arm in protection and they hear a noise coming from ahead, doing Know how to cover his mouth in fear. It was one of the creatures coming from one of the open apartments, decrepit skin and dead eyes like the ones at the police station. Staggering to and fro with a ghastly groan, it sees them By tilting your head towards the door, it starts running towards them in a disturbing scream.
Rupert plane carrying the pistol, aiming for the head the creature prepared to shoot, but for a second, he blinked, freezing with his hand on the trigger, he saw his friend Johnny. Rupert can't pull the trigger, Dave pulls his arm to the side causing them to fall to the ground as the creature lunges towards Price and passes straight through them.
The creature then sees Henry just ahead and charges at him, within seconds, Henry pressed down hard on the metal bar and with one hand knocked the bar off in midair, hitting the creature's head with such force that the thing flies to the ground next to Henry, scattering blood and brains on the ground, Henry staggered back, his breathing heavy and shaking hands gripping the metal bar tightly.
Dave was  was in complete shock looking at Henry, but his attention returns to the friend next to him, "Rup! What happened??" He asks with his hands on Rupert's shoulders, at which he looks down with bulging eyes and equally heavy breathing. "Rupert, tell me what's going on..?" Dave caresses his friend's face trying to calm him down.
Rupert removes Dave’s hand of his face and stands up holding his pistol with trembling hands. "I..." He pauses looking at the pistol, mentally asking his hands to stop shaking so much, his eyes itching to hold back tears. "Stay strong Price..." He told himself, in whispers, not wanting to look weak in front of his best friend. His only living friend.
"I'm fine!" He states firmly, lowering his hand holding the pistol still shaky and continues looking for Dave's apartment. Panpa's looks concern and follows him looking for the keys to his house.
“Damn it!" he notices the keys are missing, "I don't have them!" he puts his hands on his head in a panic, Price turns towards him putting his hands on his shoulders.
“Dave calm down, try to think where you left them." Dave looks into his eyes with a not too confident look, his lips trembled, he looked around nervously.
"A-at the police station..." Rupert pulls back a little with a look of frustration placing his hands over his face and sliding one over his head, hair and up to the back of his neck. “I-I'm sorry Rup! It's my fault again!" Dave cries covering his face in shame at himself, he felt like he was worthless, he never did anything right.
Rupert sigh putting his hand reassuringly on Dave's shoulder, "no problem, just..." He looks at Dave’s apartment door, "we can try to break the door down to get in!" He responds, directing himself to his friend's apartment.
Dave nervously walks up behind him, "A-are you sure about t-that?" He asks with a shaky voice, “Isn't that wrong?" He asks Rupert who was right in front of the door already.
"Dave we're going through, whatever that is!" He puts his hand on Dave's shoulder once more, Dave feels his hand shaking on his shoulder looking down at his arm. "We have no choice but to do this!" He sees Henry behind Dave, "Oi! Can you help out here?" He catches the attention of the thief who sighs, rolling his eyes and dropping the metal bar on the wall to the side and joining Rupert to break down the door.
Henry instead of breaking down the door, takes a paper clip that was in his pocket and starts using it as a look-pick. “Ok, That works too..." After a few seconds Henry hears a *click* and formally opens the door.
"Wow" Dave whispers in awe as Rupert enters the apartment. It was as Dave had left it, A living room overlooking the kitchen with a hallway leading to the bathroom and bedroom.
"Okay Dave, pack everything you can in a backpack! Clothes, foods, everything!" Dave nodding his head runs to his room to pack everything and take the opportunity to change his clothes. Rupert sits on the couch positioning the pistol on the coffee table in front of him.
He sighs deeply, leaning his head on the couch, looking up thoughtfully. He was full of thoughts at that very moment, how they were going to survive this chaotic situation, he and Henry seem to be the only ones who know how to defend themselves. He remembers that Dave doesn't even know how to use a gun properly without almost accidentally hitting someone.
He hauls himself forward, seeing Henry leaning over the open door looking out over the apartment complex that was completely empty except for some of those things hiding outside.
He looks at a picture on top of the coffee table Of him, Dave and Johnny. The three of them smiling at their acceptance to the police academy from a year ago, Rupert had graduated the year before with Johnny, Dave had just graduated and they were celebrating that day. He remembers Dave's parents not showing up that day, like every other time, just remembering those two Ruperts made him feel irritated, but he knew that Dave still loved them even after the way they treated him.
The image of Johnny's smile in the photo leaves him with trembling hands holding the photo, he leans his forehead against the glass of the photo, forcing himself not to cry but when he opens his eyes he sees tears already on the surface of the photograph. "Shit.." He murmurs, wiping away his tears and gently tossing the picture to the side trying to ignore it. Sliding his hands through his hair he thinks of what he can do...
“I'm ready Rup–" Dave enters the room with a backpack with some clothes and some food and utensils when he realizes Rupert's condition. "Rup?" He approaches his friend crouching down to look into his slightly tear-soaked eyes. “Rupert!” Dave puts his hands over Rupert's face in comfort to his friend who almost never cried.
"Rupert, what happened? are you ok?" he asks very worried, “Hey, tell me ok? Tell me what's going on..." He slowly lifts Rupert's head to get a better look at him. Henry looks at the two of them and looks back outside. "I'm sorry Dave... I don't mean to look weak..." Rupert responds wiping the tears from his face, Dave looks at him in disbelief, never did he expect his friend to say something like that about himself.
"No no no! You're not weak..." Dave lowers his head, "I am... "He answers with a frown. Rupert looks up at him with wide eyes.
“No! you're not weak..." Rupert disagrees, Dave grits his teeth and stands up with his hands over his chest.
“Rupert! I can never defend myself!!” he started to raise his voice, he almost never did that, “I always need your help for everything!! Without you I could never become a police officer!! Without you, I'd be dead out there!!" He points outside, "you are the strongest person I know!! And tears are not going to make me think otherwise!!" He was tearing up too his face was red and his voice breaking. Rupert blushed, flattered by his friend's praise, he didn't see himself as strong. "I miss Johnny a lot too... “ Dave looks to the side, seeing the picture on the couch, he bites his lip lightly, “He was our friend..." He starts to cry, covering face with his hands.
Rupert gets up and hesitating hugs Dave, Henry looks at them for a while and thoughtfully looks back outside. The friends calm down, Dave was still shaking but Rupert was there to help him, the two prepare to leave, Dave looks to the side and sees an old baseball bat and picks it up, "maybe this will help... I hope..." Rupert smiles at him and Henry opens the door with the metal bar in hand ready to take out any of those freaks.
The three of them ran towards the parking lot where Rupert's car was, Henry being able to keep them safe from any of those things when they got too close. The three get into the fast car and Rupert starts the car heading towards his house not far away. Dave opens his backpack to double check what he's got, some snacks like chips, crackers, some water and clothes. He hears a rumbling of a belly and looks at Henry, was he hungry? Henry glances at him, noting that he has noticed It and crosses his arms and looks away with red cheeks in embarrassment.
"Are you hungry Henry?" Dave offers Him a bag of chips with a smile and one eyebrow raised and one lowered. Henry hesitantly takes it and start eating the snacks. Dave laughs and looks at Rupert opening another bag of chips, "Want some too Rupert?" He looks at him and sighing takes one with one hand and eats it, "You know this is my favorite." He laughs and Dave smiles eating the chips.
For hours the three of them drove through the city without a sign of life or security. They were starting to fear the worst, Rupert was already wanting to drive to the next town to hear from his parents when they heard something in the distance. They pass a corner from which they can see red smoke in the distance. The three look at each other and start driving towards the smoke hoping they were survivors.
Arriving at the end of the street they reach the source of smoke, it was a smoke signal tube thrown on the ground, the smoke was almost over. The three get out of the car with Henry getting out first and ensuring the protection of the others while Rupert approaches the flare taking it in his hand and analyzing it. “Someone definitely came through here." He looks at Dave who was looking around for survivors, he then hears a sound coming from behind a trash can next to an alley. He takes the baseball bat in his hands, he was shaking and sweating with nervousness.
He approaches slowly, "W-who's there??" He gets closer and closer and then the figure steps out from behind the trash can. It was a boy about the same age as them, curly brown hair, dark skin and green eyes. He wore a green camouflage-print jacket with a fur collar and red headphones around his neck. He had an injured arm and a cut on his face.
“Who are you??" Price stands in front of Dave pointing the gun at the stranger who scares himself a little by extending a hand before groaning in pain and going back to holding the other arm.
"Don't attack me! I just sent a signal to make it easier for them to find me..." Rupert lowers the gun, glaring at the boy as Henry approaches with a raised eyebrow. “I work for the government and went out on patrol, I got lost..." He laughs nervously and Rupert gets even more suspicious. "My name is Charles Calvin!" He cracks a smile and extends his hand, "I'm a helicopter pilot, it's nice to meet you!" He keeps waiting for them to shake hands with him, but not one of them accepts the handshake, that said pilot laughs awkwardly, lowering his hand .
“Rupert Price." He puts the gun away and introduces the other two, "This is Dave and Henry." Dave nods and Henry just stares at Charles, their eyes meet for a moment, he could sense a sense of distrust and coldness coming from the albino, Henry looks back down the street alert in case those creatures come again, tightly holding the metal bar in hands.
“If you're from the government, do you guys know what's going on??" Dave steps forward with his hands clasped together. Charles pauses and looks down at the ground, he shakes his head with a disappointed look, Dave's hopeful expression dissolves in seconds.
"It happened overnight, I don't know all the details, but if we find a way to the base in the center of the city, maybe the General will know!" He says going behind the trash can and picking one up military bag full of food and water. It had more supplies than Dave's pack, making him feel even more unprepared.
“Okay pilot boy, I'll help by giving you a ride." Price snorts and waves in the direction of the car, directing Charles to follow, from which he takes the backpack and without difficulty slings it onto his back. Dave was surprised, the backpack looked quite big and heavy.
“How do you manage to carry that big backpack?" He asks side by side with Charles as Henry follows close behind. Calvin looked up at him, raising an eyebrow until the question struck him.
“Oh!" He laughs, "It's not that heavy, I know I'm only a pilot but I'm not that weak!" He says winking and raising his arm flexing, but immediately he feels pain in his arm. "Half an hour ago I hit my arm hard..." He rolled up his jacket sleeve showing a wound on his arm that was poorly bandaged.
“Oh, I hope it's not serious..." Dave looks to the side wanting not to see the wound, Henry glances over and react attentively, catching Charles's wrist and lifting his arm towards him. “Henry what is it??" Dave looks at him confused, the thief is staring at the wound for a few seconds, noticing a bad placement of the bandage and blood stains. Henry finds a loose piece and slowly removes the bandage from the pilot's arm which shocks both him and Dave.
“I... I don't know how to take care of myself in a medicinal way..." He laughs nervously but Henry cuts the laugh short with a cold serious expression against him who swallows hard. Henry sighs, shaking his head and going to Charles' bag, starting to rummage through it. "H-Hey what are you-" in seconds Stickmin pulls out a first aid kit from inside the backpack.
Henry goes to the car and opens the backseat door and points inside. "You..." Dave stares at him for a few seconds until he realizes what he wanted to say, "Are you going to tend to his wound?" Henry blushes, again pointing further inward looking to the side. Dave laughs and helps Charles zip up his backpack and takes him into the backseat and onto the passenger seat.
Henry closes the car door behind him and gets in, Rupert checks that they're buckled in and starts driving. Henry puts the first aid kit between him and Charles and raises his hand without looking at it, the pilot is a little embarrassed but raises his injured arm which Henry pulls close to look more closely.
Luckily, it wasn't a bite, Henry sighs in relief at that and starts going through the kit and getting medicine for wounds, taking cotton and alcohol and dabbing it lightly on the wound. Charles lets out a small groan of pain with each pressure from Henry who doesn't seem to want to look at him.
“So...." Charles paused trying to ignore the pain, "Henry huh?" Just awkward silence, Charles wasn't the type to start a conversation, "you don't talk much do you?" Henry presses hard on the alcohol making Charles feel more pain, "Sorry!" He tries to laugh at the pain but it only makes Henry look at him with a cold and serious look.
“Are you a doctor or something..?" Charles tilts his head a little, "you seem to know a lot about first aid." Henry was just starting to put on the bandages when Charles mentioned this, causing him to freeze, he stared at the wound holding the bandages tightly, his vision becoming blurred and everything seemed to disorient him. "Hey..." Charles notices Henry's state a little worried, "are you okay..?" Henry snaps back to reality, putting Charles's arm back in place as if nothing had happened.
Henry looked away from Charles again, closing the first aid kit and setting it aside. This guy gave a negative vibe about him, Charles looks at Dave who looked at him too not knowing what to say.
“So...” He pauses looking around, "how long have you been in this situation?" He asks leaning over a little closer to the front seats. Dave looks at Rupert who with a sigh allows his friend to speak.
“We found out when we were at the police station not far from here." Rupert looks to the side, his eyes focused on the steering wheel and the street ahead, "let's say..." He looks at Henry who crossed his arms rolling his eyes and resting them on the window which he started to stare at, "We went to see how Henry was doing..." His eyes glanced at Henry repeatedly with a nervous expression, "...in his cell." Charles almost jumps out of his seat in shock, hitting his head on the ceiling in the process. “I know it sounds really crazy, literally we are..." He paused looking at Rupert who glanced at him, and when he noticed his eyes he looked forward again, "two policemen and a criminal..." Charles looks at the two and at Henry who just stared at him coldly, pointing at him in a conflicted way.
“Wow," he smooths a hand through his hair, "you mean this whole time I've been sitting next to a criminal?" Henry cracks a small smile as if he takes it as a compliment, "that..." He looks at He He glances in Henry's direction, one hand on his chin resting on the edge of the car window looking out at the passing streets. “I don't know how to feel about this..." He puts his arms over his legs looking at the ground not knowing what else to say.
“Do you remember the direction to this base in the city center? I need it here" Rupert says keeping his eyes focused straight ahead, Charles lifts his head, realizing he wasn't there given the directions to them. He takes his backpack, even though his arm hurts he could still take the map of the city and gives it to Dave's hand, smoothing a little bit of the bandaged arm trying to ignore the pain he felt. Henry couldn't help but notice this, but he looked back out of the car thoughtfully.
That ride would take almost half an hour, Rupert was still wondering how Charles managed to get away from his group so easily. During the ride it was getting close to dusk, and they were passing through a very poor area of the city, seeing through the windows those things outside roaming freely in the street.
“You know what those things remind me of?" Rupert and Dave stare at each other with an "oh no" look.
“No please..." Dave begs almost squirming in his seat as Rupert buries his head in the steering wheel and lightly taps it repeatedly.
“For the love of god this better not start with a Z!!" Rupert grunts turning to Charles who just shrugs his shoulders with a nervous smile. It wasn't quite the time to joke about how this looked like the apocalypse movies everyone already knew.
“I've always found it strange that in these movies they never say the word..." He laughs with both men growling in frustration, "and am I lying??" A silence takes the car for a few seconds, for a moment Charles really thought he had done something wrong, when he entered Rupert started to laugh softly, and soon Dave joined him. The two laughed and Charles felt like laughing too, the three kept the volume low so as not to attract the creatures, even with everything that happened, they still found a way to keep a good mood.
“What idiot, like, isn't a popular monster? Why do these movies never mention if it's something so common in the media?" Rupert laughed holding the steering wheel, Dave just looked at him laughing and smiling. “And it's not like I didn't notice, of course I did..." He pauses, the smile becoming melancholy and the laughter stopping, "Jonny loved those stupid movies..." He could hear the pain in his voice, placing a hand over his gently trying to comfort him. Charles stopped laughing and stared at them, noticing that the mood went from comical to serious very quickly. Charles looked into the corner feeling bad, he had no intention of making anyone uncomfortable.
“I...." He paused looking to the side, seeing something that left him in shock, "guys!" The other two look at him and to the side, going into exact shock. Henry's seat was empty, and the door was slightly open, he had just gotten out of the car while they were distracted. Immediately Rupert stops the car and starts mumbling getting out of the car loading his pistol and starting to head in the direction they came from.
“You two stay in the car! I'm going to finish that motherfucker!" He said mildly irritated, they start to run away from the car. Dave and Charles were left behind scared and nervous, Dave didn't know what to do and started looking around, he went back inside, locking all the doors and turning off the car’s lights. He was almost hyperventilating, he was scared, he crouched down in the space in front of his chair, trying not to make too much noise.
Charles wasn't so panicked, he looked out the windows to see if they had any of those things out there, not seeing anything for now. All they could do was wait for the other two to return.
Rupert continued to run after Henry, refueling his gun as he prepared for anything. But on the way he can see what looked like the bodies of those creatures, torn apart and lying in their own blood and guts, Rupert covers his face in horror, he should be used to this by now. He followed the trail to the same street they passed before, following it to the end of the street, arriving at a house that had an open door and swaying against the wind. Having no idea what was going on, Rupert just entered the house trying to ignore the bodies on the floor, walking through the door and looking around.
It was a small house, they didn't have much furniture, at least a basic kitchen, an old sofa and an old tv, a shelf and a desk with some scribbled and torn papers, some keys over papers with some kind of face symbol he didn't know about. "What place is this..?" He wondered, hearing someone approaching he pointed the gun in the direction, but it was just Henry.
“What the fuck is wrong with you??" He questions staring at Henry and lowering the gun, visibly irritated by the thief's attitude, "You can't just come out of nowhere and go robbing someone else's abandoned house!" Henry raises an eyebrow, he walks over to a shelf, picking up what looked like a photo but with a cold expression throws it away on the ground.
"DUDE!" Rupert walks over to the picture, turning his back on Henry, "be more respectful this isn't your-" Rupert takes the photo turning it over in his hand, seeing the contents of the photo, his eyes widen, he slowly turns to Henry who just looks at him coldly before heading to the entrance of the house.
He was carrying a small backpack, it looked pretty empty but at the same time carrying something inside. Rupert looks back at the photo, looking around at the rest of the house, processing everything. He gets up and still, a little in shock, adjusts the photo back on the shelf, staring into the frame of a mother with a sweet smile holding a little boy with blue eyes and snow-pale skin Just like his hiar. There was another person in the photo, but that part of the photo had been torn apart. Rupert sighs and have Henry following him back to the car.
“You know..." Rupert pauses with his hands in his pockets, "you could have asked..." He says looking at Henry, the thief looks at him confused, "I wouldn't deny bringing you here..." Henry stops confused, staring at him but Rupert just keeps walking, "we're in a life and death situation, we need to work together to survive..." He paused, sighing and turning to Henry with a sincere smile, "even if we're not friends, that doesn't mean we can't help each other..." The two stare at each other for a few seconds before continuing.
Finally they get back to the car, and upon seeing them they immediately open the door and Dave jumps out to find Rupert with a startled look, "Rup, I was so worried where did you go??" He asked with shaking hands on Rupert's shoulder who starts trying to calm him down as Henry gets into the car.
“Henry was stubborn and didn't ask to stop, he just wanted to stop by his place..." He says without much hesitation, surprising both Henry and Dave, "whatever he took must have been enough, right?" And he looks at Stickmin who just nods with a smile and gets in the car, putting the feeling as well as Dave and Rupert who returns to drive.
“Sorry I scared you Dave..." Rupert apologized but Dave just sighed and smiled at him, placing a hand on his shoulder gently making Price smile. His friend's smile was all he needed, and quickly he was more confident and headed downtown.
The trip doesn't take long, in almost no time he could see lights in a close distance and finally they could verify that it was like a barrier formed downtown, high lights tall enough for none of those creatures to get close.
“It's here!!" Charles points with a smile on his face, in a few seconds they approach what looks like a gate with some towers with snipers on top.
The both guards pointing in the direction of the car alarming "who's coming??" Really loud. The three look at Charles who just smiles genuinely nodding, nervous Rupert stops the car and they start to leave raising their arms. Charles immediately starts waving, "It's ME, Charles!!" The guards face each other and one of them speaks in an walk talk as they lower their weapons. The group faces each other and in a few minutes the gates begin to open, and on the other side an older man wearing a general's formal uniform was waiting with an expression of surprise.
“General!" Charles immediately runs towards him and stopping in front of him salutes, "I'm sorry sir, I-I got lost on patrol, I-I don't know what you heard with the rest of the group i... I...” For the first time he appeared to sound nervous in front of the trio, but he quickly fell silent as the general unnaturally welcomed Charles into a hug, surprising everyone.
Charles didn't look surprised or shocked, just... embarrassed? They were even more confused by this, they looked quite close. "The group returned safe, but they said you were lost and I..." The man paused, "I thought you were gone..." They break apart and the general puts his hand over Charles' face, "Are you all right?" The young man scratches the back of his head nervously and looks at the group, the general immediately sees them, "surviving hands I see, come on, come in." He gives room for them to pass with a hand on Charles's shoulder.
The group enters the base, impressed by the state of the place, arriving from military groups and various tents, medical, training, food and even accommodation. There were several townspeople there, some seriously injured, others having panic attacks and others just in a corner crying to themselves and being comforted by others. It was a very dire situation for many of them and it hurt Dave's heart, Rupert felt enormous discomfort seeing all this, and that only made him even more worried about his parents.
Henry just looked at those people with pity, sighing in the presence of children who asked the soldiers, firefighters and doctors where their parents were, with not even the adults being able to give an answer. The group just gets back in the car and they drive inside, parking it close to other cars and pulling out what they have inside.
They come back together with Charles and the general, "so..." Rupert stares at the two trying to understand their relationship, "what are you two?" He questions getting strange looks from Dave who just stares at him with a raised eyebrow while Henry hold a laugh.
“Oh well, I've known him since I was a kid, he was a friend of my parents..." Charles pauses looking at the general at which he smiles, "I grew up with him taking care of me so we're very close!" This seemed to make sense to them.
The general decides to let them take care of whatever they need in the medical hut and eat in the cantina hut, and Charles has offered to show them around, but Henry quickly grabs him lightly by the arm and starts dragging him to the medical hut with the intention of making him treat his wounds. Dave and Rupert stare at each other and laugh a little.
As they watched laughing, Rupert felt himself being watched, turning to meet the eyes that were looking at them.
“Rupert?" Rupert's gaze was petrified as he recognized the man in front of him, a man with a beard similar to the general's but equally different in build. The man stares at the two with a look of shock, the same one Rupert gave. Rupert felt his chest hurt, knowing what this meant.
“M-Mister Panzer..?”

Chapter 41: Remembrance and Reason
The early noon sun was already shining down on the city block. Creatures, mostly penguins, go about their lives as the day passes on. None of them were even aware of the trapped alien in the metro, the one the whole planet claimed to care so much about. Not that they would be able to do anything if they were aware. No one even dared to look at the entrance to the cat's domain. Sure, most of them were fine. But when you consider the strange happenings involving the Empress.. it was better to turn a blind eye.
None of that was an option for Platinum and Adalyn as they raced to the gate, Adalyn grabbing onto Platinum's sleeve to force him to stop. Platinum let out an annoyed huff as he turned to the cat, but then took a sigh when he saw her catching her breath. Right, she couldn't run this long and just be ready to hop right into the metro. If he acknowledged it, his systems were heating quickly from the use and his internal fans were working their hardest to keep him from breaking on the spot.
He slowly walked up to the stairway into the metro, sitting down on the first step as he stared into the dark. He could see hints of the neon and cat-face-everything his sister would tell him about... He slowly looked down at his hands and pulled them closed. His sister. He was made for her, he needed to find her now. Not just to keep following his program's purpose, but because she didn't need to be hurt. Or killed, if the Empress dared try that. Platinum hadn't met her, but he wouldn't be surprised if that was her goal.
What would Platinum do if he got down there and his sister was a bloody mess? He.. didn't want to learn the hard way. He slowly stood up and glanced down the stairs, looking at the world below. He heard Adalyn's breath slow, and he waved her over. He waited until he heard her footprints beside him, briefly glancing over. There was a small gulp in her voice as she glanced down the stairs. It seemed she wasn't as ready as she thought she would be. He wasn't either. Breaking in sounded easier before they were here.
They couldn't just stand here. Not when they already made the trip. Platinum wasn't expecting to ever be allowed to leave the station after this. If he came all this way for nothing- no, came all this way only to find her... He refused to think on it any longer. He just began to head down the stairs, a little slow, some hesitation still in his systems. He wished he could just shut that part of his emotions off. He needed to get there now, and every little second they waste could be-
"Ok, that enough you two." The voice almost made Platinum jump out of his metal skin. Adalyn turned around with claws out and Platinum turned around with a fist. They were met with the ghostly train conductor, and Platinum let out a small sigh. They were so in trouble, but they weren't in danger. "Yo' lucky I managed to keep you in my sights. Yo' not-"
"If you were following us the whole time why didn't you grab someone to help?!" Platinum snapped, Macbeth raising a brow in surprise at the robot's anger. Platinum took some breaths, going through the physical motions as he calmed down, and glanced down at the metro. He tighten his grip with his hand as he looked at it, before feeling a ghostly hand on his shoulder. "I messed up.." He turned to Macbeth. "I found something from here that belong to Hat Girl. A rumbi that broke during her ships crash."
"The factory with the parts to repair it is here. And she wasn't in her room when we checked this morning..." Adalyn finished Platinum's statement for him. Macbeth brought a hand to his head and ran it down, letting out a sigh. Of course something like that would happen eventually, he should've known. But no one was up to catch her before she had left the station. "We didn't tell anyone because... well I honestly don't remember. We just wanted to get her back safely."
"Look, I'm sure you weren't thinking rationally when you ran off, and I can't be mad considerin’' the circumstances." Macbeth began. However, he was pulling out his phone and Platinum had an idea where this was going. "But I need to let your fathers know you're ok first. I'll help you find her, don;t worry. I just feel this is important." Platinum gave a small nod and took a step back, covering his ears as he was sure whatever happened next wouldn't be pretty. The phone was answered. "Chief-"
"Macbeth, where are you?! Do you know where Hattie and Palty are?!" Reginald's voice came from the phone so suddenly and so loud it was almost like a siren. Macbeth whined a bit as he rubbed his ears and Platinum glanced to the side. He didn't want them to worry. "We been looking everywhere for them but it's like they vanished into air!"
"Chief, I need you to be quiet and try to be in the right headspace for what I'm about to tell you." The voice on the call went dead silent at Macbeth's words. "Platinum is fine, I found him. But apparently Hat Girl snuck out in the middle of the night to try and get parts for her old Rumba? And they think she's kidnapped and in this 'metro' place." The line remained silent, but the silence felt angry. "That's why Platinum ran off. He should have gotten us for help, but, I can't judge since I didn't think to call until now."
"Ok, Ok.. I'm trying my best." Reginald said, the slight hint of a sob in his voice. Platinum lowered his hands as he glanced at the phone. Oh, he really messed up, huh? He wanted to punch himself but now wasn't the time. He needed to be in the best physical condition as possible if they got into a fight. "Platy.. Platy are you there? Have you seen any.."
"No, I haven't seen any signs of sis yet. And, I'm sorry. I should have told you but, you would have told me to stay behind and it's my fault she..." Platinum trailed off before he went on a ramble. He glanced around, looking up at one of the rooftops nearby. He recalled the parade, the night they first found themselves on this planet. "Do you remember when you met Snatcher and the movie directors?" He didn't wait for an answer. "The entrance to the metro is there. Dad, if we wait for you..."
"She could be hurt, or worst..." Reginald let out a sigh, and Platinum could practically see him bury his head in his hand despite not actually being there. "Macbeth, you have a gun or something on you? If not, I suppose you have your powers.. take them into the metro. Be careful of both, especially Adalyn if she's also there. I don't want to get into more trouble then we're all in. And.. be careful. We'll be there soon."
"I love you, Dad.." Platinum said, as Macbeth hung up the phone. The group was silent for a moment, Platinum turning and beginning to head down the stairs. Quickly at first, but Macbeth caught him by the hood of his jacket before he slipped and went crashing down. They couldn't afford to be noticed, at least noticed much. They had to be careful. And falling face first down the stairs would be the ticket of getting noticed. "Sorry... come on. Let's get her back so we can... try and laugh this off at home."
"You guys must have some strange form of humor if you even think you might be able to laugh this off." Adalyn said with a head shake as they stepped further into the dark. She turned back for a moment, glancing up at the light. She never thought she would actually be heading down these stairs one day. Her father once said he never expected to go up them.. she shook her head. There were more important things to focus on at the moment. "I only know a bit of what to expect down here."
"That's more than I know." Macbeth commented, glancing briefly at the pocket he had sewn onto his shirt. He did bring a gun with him, he didn't know why he did but he had it on him when he left. But he wasn't too used to using normal guns anymore. It's been months since he properly held one at all. And just the idea of holding one again, he didn't know why but it brought a chill down his spine. "Just, try to avoid conflict. I don't have many bullets on me and I don't think takin' lives will help."
"It will only make things worse..." Platinum took a breath as the neon light began to glow. "There's no heading back now."
With only a second of hesitation, he ran straight forward, into the unknown.
Once he stopped running forward with the world around him a blurr, he took a small breath to let the others catch up. As his eyes adjusted to the environment, he was surprised by how... cool he found the place. There was neon everywhere, but it worked well against the black floor and walls. Food carts were lined around, and there were tracks above him, seemingly being held up by nothing! It all felt more... calm then what he was expecting as well. Then again, he faintly recalled hearing the upper levels didn't have as many issues.
As Adalyn and Macbeth came up to him, he could see hints of awe in their eyes as well. Adalyn's practical sparkled, but there was a guilt to the sparkle. As if it was wrong for part of her to be excited. Which was, arguably true.
"Wait-" Macbeth said as he glanced up, them all hearing the rush of what seemed to be a train above them. The carts they saw on the track above all belong to train. But, there was no locomotive. There was a large, orange cat just pulling the carts along, glancing around as if being careful. Platinum couldn't help but crack a small smile at the sight, but Macbeth's eyes were twitching slightly. "That.. That doesn't make sense. You have ninety percent of the train there, how do you not use the most important part-"
"Wow, I didn’t know this would be something that would get on your nerve." Platinum chuckled, before shaking his head a bit. "I can scan my memory of this place later. We need to find where Hat Girl is."
"Assuming the Empress does have her, she will be in her jewelry store most likely. Which..." Adalyn paused as she glanced around. "Is, down somewhere?" Is all she could think to say. She had no idea how to navigate, and something told her that the toppats hadn't had the foresight to bring enough pons for passes and tickets. They could always climb on a train. "We could climb on the train?" She asked as she turned back to them, but Macbeth shook his head. "Well, I guess we start walking."
"Just our luck.." Macbeth sighed as he began to scan around, leading the group, trying to find somewhere darker so they could hide easier. As he approached an alleyway he paused, turning the corner. There looked to be a fight going on between two cats, one of which was wearing a gray mask on their face. He put his hand out as he backed up, glancing at the kids. "You know anything about cats that would wear a gray mask and beat someone up." They both nodded. "Well, there's one down this alley. Maybe we can follow them around and get a better-"
"Let me try talking to them. I'm mostly metro in appearance, maybe they'll think I'm just lost." Adalyn said, watching the other cat run away once they slipped free of the mask wearing cat. Macbeth let out an annoyed sigh. It was the best chance they really had. If they got caught following, they just be lead the wrong way. With a breath, Adalyn began to walk in a way that seemed confused as she turned to the cat, as if she just noticed them. "Oh, excuse me! I think I took a wrong turn from the station-"
"Gah, you saw nothing, right?" The cat said, sharpening their claws and facing her. Adalyn raised her paws carefully, and Macbeth and Platinum glanced at each other, both having reach to try and pull the other back if they ran off to interfere now. It hadn't gotten violent yet after all. The cat then studied Adalyn, a curious look in their eyes. That made Adalyn tilt her head. "Do I know you. Or should I say, do I know your parents. I recognize that look in your eyes."
"You may have seen me and my father around. We're from the lower levels like you! I just..got on the wrong station then made a few wrong turns before I realized." Adalyn said, trying to keep a smile on her face, but didn't appreciate the tone from the cat. She didn't know she could be so bothered by the smugness of someone, but this guy had nothing to be smug about. They sharpened their claws on her. "My..mother is from the skylines. So that's why I have the white patches and outfit-"
"Oh, you're lying. Your Samuel's aren't you!" The cat said, Adalyn unable to hold back the glare as they leaned against the wall, taking a moment to examine their sharp claws. "Yea, that guy? Always a pushover in the worst ways. Was fun to use as a body bag to practice attacks on. Not like the boss stopped it." They chuckle, and Adalyn slowly glanced back at the toppats. Macbeth did not like the look in her eye. "No wonder he went crawling to those weak Lazy Paws in-"
They didn't get to finish, before they could Adalyn slashed at their mouth with her claws, tearing the mask and causing it to bleed. "Don't talk about my father like that." She hissed, tail raised as she looked ready to pounce. Platinum and Macbeth began to move forward to help, but the cat pounced in relation before they could get there. Luckily, Adalyn had turned invisible and stepped aside, leaving the cat to just fall on the ground. "Oh, and what were you saying about 'weak' Lazy Paws."
The cat growled and kept attacking, or at least kept trying to find Adalyn in the air. "Should we, do something?" Platinum asked as he turned to Macbeth, who brought a finger up to his mouth and made a quick 'shush' nose. He was ready to go in and get between the two when it called for it, but Adalyn was fully capable and doing quite well. He wanted to see how long both could last. "huh, alright then. Seems irresponsible knowing you but I also know how much you hate backtalk."
"I know what you three want, I won't allow it!" The cat hissed as they kept swiping at the air. After a few seconds of not hitting anything however, they just turn to run down one of the halls. Unfortally, Adalyn reappeared, just to smirk as she kicked them into the wall. She turned invisible as they groaned. Platinum began to race forward to block one of the exit paths, but the cat gave the faint hint of a smirk. "Lets see how strong metal really is!" The cat went for the dumbest move possible... and drew blood.
"Ow!" Adalyn shouted, kicking the cat back as Macbeth raced up to grab them, pinning them against the wall. She went to grab them but Macbeth shook his head. He held the cat in place with one arm and reached for the bloody spot with another. A faint green glow began to come from the one on his arm, but it also appeared on the mask cat, bringing back some energy. "I'm fine. And before you say 'It was dumb I am metal' Platinum, I don't care." She turned to the cat. "Where is the Empress's store? Where is Hat Girl?"
"As if I would tell you-" Macbeth just forced them closer to the wall. He would have pulled out the gun to threaten them, but that could cause more of a scene. Besides, Alex was poking their head out of his hat, and they didn't need to see more than what they were. The cat coughed for a bit, but Macbeth just glared. Adalyn began to reach over with her claws, and the cat panicked. "Ok- OK- There's a secret elevator we use in one of the tunnels. There's barely enough room to get past the carts. Look for the white station!"
"There, now run." Macbeth said as he let the cat go, the cat running off without a second thought. He glanced up at Alexsandra, who was looking down at him confused. The confusion turned to worry when they spotted Adalyn's arm, Macbeth reaching over to focus on his healing magic again. He needed to be careful. He didn't use magic much on anyone, even himself. He tended to pass out when he tried. "I'm sorry Adalyn. I should have gotten in the way sooner."
"You are the adult here." Adalyn said, a faint smug tone in her voice as Macbeth rolled his eyes, eventually pulling the hand away. The fur was still torn on where the slash was, but it would regrow with time. "I'll tell my parents I fell down from a tree..." She rubbed her arm before heading out of the alley, the other two following her. She began to scan around the area. "I think I can see the white station, or at least a sign for it. Let's go, if we're lucky we can catch the place while the Empress is gone."
"Oh hang tight sis, we're gonna get you out soon." Platinum whispered as he began to race to where Adalyn had pointed, tears slowly forming in his eyes at the mere thought of being too late. "I'll make this all up to you, I promise."
"You don't need to be that hard on yourself, Platinum. You did nothing wrong." Macbeth stated.
Platinum shook his head. Maybe Mr. Macbeth had a point. But he couldn't help but wish he never dared enter that storage room.
-------
It had to have been hours at this point, sitting here, watching her captive struggle against the mental torment. It wasn't really anything that bad. Just showing some memories. Memories that the hat alien had clearly forgotten. Ones that seemed to pain her now. Oh, the Empress could spend days watching this. Or at least, could have if eventually Hat Girl didn't just... stop. There were still tears going down her face, but there was little more reaction. It was as if, at a certain point, everything just turned off.
With the Empress deciding that she had her fill, she turned off the machine. Hat Girl was instantly removed from the world of vague fog and smoke and back into her body, so to speak. She actually let out a grone as her mind adjusted. She blinked a bit as the machine was removed from her head, finding the Empress in front of her. She didn't say anything, just watched as the Empress turned the cause of her torment in her hand, like a toy.
"Your kind really do know how to make a good few things. It's a shame I rarely get to use these, since so many ask where I get them." The Empress chuckled as she sat the VR-Headset-like device down. Hat Girl didn't respond. She figured out halfway through that must be what was happening, after a faint memory of her learning about the machine in school. She didn’t.. want to think much of the friends who faces she didn't remember. "Oh, is it that surprising that I managed to do trades with them?"
"You already hurt me enough, you don't have to rub it in." Hat Girl was aware that a response like that was what the Empress wanted, but she couldn't help it. Not saying anything might only make things worse. Forcing her to think about the people she would never get to see again. Both of her original planet... and of the clan. Her fate was sealed. She didn't want to believe it, but it was the truth. "I'm not surprised they came into contact with this planet before me. I'm just surprised they would work with someone like you."
"Weren't you the one bragging about your fathers criminal clan... oh, but they aren't you Dads, are they?" The Empress asked, a chuckle to her voice as she began to sharpen her claws. A bit of anger showed on Hat Girl's face there. They might not be related by blood but they were still her Dads. After all, her Dads saved her and cared for her. And she wished they were here to save her again. "Oh, but surely that would have found you by now. Looks like they didn't care enough for you..."
"I don't want you to kill me, but if that's your goal, get it over with." She saw the Empress flitch a bit. Maybe it was the way she said it or the fact she said it at all. Maybe Hat Girl would have had the energy to fight if she hadn't had her lost memories shown to her…Her greatest mistake shown to her... but it had been shown to her, and her confidence was drained. In her ability to fight, even the smallest bit. "I just ask you..don't let them find my body. They would-"
"You think your kind cares for you after your treachery? They would have long since found you by now if they wanted you alive." The Empress said with a laugh. Hat Girl drifted her gaze slightly to the side. That fool, she couldn't help but think. Couldn't she tell she was talking about her family. She... didn't want to know what her Dads reaction to her body would be. "And oh, don't you know of the game of the cat and the mouse?" The cat smirked. "Why should I end the game so soon?"
"I mean, the longer you keep me as your mouse, the more likely someone is gonna find out. This planet cares for me, even if you don't." That was another reason she didn't want her body found. Her mere disappearance would cause havoc on this planet. If they found her body, and were able to piece together who did it.. It would be a nightmare she wouldn't wish on anyone. Even the Empress. "I would just finish it. After all, all I came in here for was parts."
The Empress glared. "Well, I suppose I'm getting tired of your tone." She said as she came up to the tied up alien. Hat Girl struggled a little bit with the arms tied around her back, but if she was honest, she wasn't putting up much of a fight. It wasn't like her to give up like this but... her mind wasn't in the best space after what she was reminded of. "Now hold still..." She felt a claw reach for her throat...
There was a large, sudden crash that shook the area. The Empress glanced around with a glare, and then eyed the captive alien. Hat Girl simply tilted her head, it didn't seem like something her clan would do if they wanted to get her back. Then again, knowing her Papa... Suddenly a mask wearing cat burst through the door, taking some breaths as the Empress glared at him. "Miss Empress. Something broke one of the tracks near the store. No one was hurt, the cat ran away. But it could cause issues."
"How does a track even get broken?" The Empress hissed, the cat gulping and quickly leaving the room. She let out a sigh of annoyance as she looked back at the Hatted alien. She couldn't take any enjoyment doing it now, she would just have to wait til later. She dusted off her coat with a huff, heading to the door. She paused briefly, and dragged a knife that was laid on a desk further from the captive. "In case you got any ideas. I'll be back." She said, slamming the door.
Hat Girl let out a sigh. "I'm sure you will be." She said, looking to the side. She glanced at the nearby table, maybe if she struggled enough she could get the chair to fall and it- no. That makes no sense... was there even a point? She would probably bust her head open with anything she tried. No one exactly taught her how to get out of these situations if she had ever been kidnapped. "Sure my home planet would’ve taught that eventually..." That numb feeling set into her again.
Everything was still blurry, but she had friends there. Mothers. A... little sister. A sister she hated at first but grew to love. A sister who got sick... a condition that was similar to what seemed to happen to the Badge Seller. Only worst. The only cure was a dust made from the gridded plant of another planet. Only that planet had been dying, quickly. And going to it was banned under any circumstances, no matter how much her mothers offer their lives for the chance to get it..
"What was I supposed to..." Her thought got interrupted by a small bang from above, before hearing some shouts as something crashed to the ground. She tried to give a smile, but she couldn't get one to last more than a few seconds. It was funny... it was almost like everything got muffled and fuzzy as Platinum raced in front of her, waving his hands and asking something her mind just, didn't want to make out. "Hey Platy... I should have stay home." She sighed as she looked down.
"What did she do to you..." Platinum stated quietly as Macbeth grabbed the knife, slowly breaking the ropes once he got over to them. Platinum was mad, Macbeth looked furious despite the blank face he wore being there. Adalyn was looking around, and grabbed the bag Hat Girl had once she spotted it. Once Hat Girl was free, Macbeth gently pulled her up from her shoulders. She was almost limp, like a ragdoll. Despite no physical damage. "Sis.. we can talk about this when we get home." He hugged her. "I'm just happy your... alive.."
"There's no way we'll be able to get out of here quickly without being spotted..." Adalyn said as she peaked out the door. She still wasn't sure how they managed to break the track, she was on the train lookout at the time. Hat Girl slowly walked up and took a peak out, and let out a small shiver at the sight of the outside. Adalyn glanced at her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Hattie, do you think you can run?" She asked. Hat Girl thought for a moment, and shook her head. "OK, we can figure something else out."
"I can try, at least." Hat Girl got into her backpack and brought out her sprint bow. Seeing how slowly and... unnaturally she tied it into her hair, it almost brought a chill to Platinum. He knew she wasn't going to be well mentally after being kidnapped, but he wasn't expecting this. It was almost like she was a robot. Going through the motions without much thought... "Lets go. I want to get home." She looked at them. "Platy, can you get the bag with Rumbi.."
Platinum nodded as she pushed open the door, Hat Girl grabbing Adalyn's and Macbeth's hands as she rushed out of the room. She could already hear the Empress's shouts...
-------
Everything was a blur. A confusing, chaotic blurr of black and neon halls. It didn't take long for the Empress to speak over the loudspeaker. And it was only then that the group realized how many cats in the metro worked for the killer feline. For Hat Girl, it brought back bad memories. It was almost funny. You think her fights with Snatcher or Mu would have been what haunted her nightmares for a long time. But something here... that she was reliving, it brought a different type of paralyzing fear that wouldn't go away.
Eventually, they lost the cats. Probably not for long, but they lost them. The only issue was they couldn't keep going the way the Hat Girl used as her escape route in the past. Nor could they use the hidden tunnel, as the cats had been guarding it when they headed that way. With little energy left in Hat Girl and Adalyn, they were forced to stop and rest. Macbeth was mumbling as he looked at the gun, he used all the bullets as distractions while running away. They didn't hit anyone.
Maybe it would have been better if they had. Could have taken out that Empress... but he couldn't let them see that.
"Alright... don't get comfortable. We're gonna need to run soon" Macbeth said, glancing at the teens. Platinum nodded as he dusted off the bottom of his feet, so many new scratches on the bottom of the steel. Adalyn had taken her bandada off, and was using it to wipe sweat away. Hat Girl, was looking at the bag filled with what she came here from. "Hat Girl." She looked up at him as he came closer. "I understand wanting to bring your friend and memories back. In that sense, I think you did a good thing."
"But you're all here... getting hurt." She sighed as she looked at her lap. "I know Rumbi.." she sighed.
"Guys. I think I hear footsteps." Adalyn said, glancing into the dark. Platinum quickly raced up to his sister, blocking one side of her as Adalyn turned invisible to attack. Macbeth glanced around, he heard footsteps from both ways, and could see the hints of cat eyes in the dark. He wasn't the best at physical fighting, but he could dang well try. He saw one cat fall as the groups charged for them. "You leave us alone!" He heard Adalyn shout. He tried to keep track of her as he began to toss cats to the side.
Hat Girl was silent. She couldn't see the Empress clearly, but she knew she was there. "Like a shadow.." she commented quitely, glancing to the side as Platinum kicked away a cat. "I can't just stay here while they fight.."
"Hattie-" Platinum started as Hat Girl just suddenly grabbed her umbrella (Platinum wasn't even sure how she got it, it was like it appeared from thin air which wasn't normal) And began to fight back. Her eyes were still numb and hurt, but there was some anger as she scanned around. "Hattie, please rest you aren't in... in.." He paused. He wasn't sure what happened but... he was sure that faint star in her eye wasn't there before. "Hattie please." He grabbed her shoulder as he kicked a cat behind him away.
"I'll be fine." She raced into the crowd, before spotting the Empress. "You!" She shouted.
"Oh, did the mouse get a bit of-" She had to cut off her comment as she focused on blocking the incoming attack from the Hattied teen. She was quick, and it didn’t feel like it was because of the sprint bow. She had this look in her eyes, like she saw every tiny movement the Empress made. She tried to trip her with her tail, but Hat Girl simply stepped away. The Empress growled as she tried to attack again. "Why do you suddenly got fighting spirit?! You still look like roadkill!"
"Roadkill?" Hat Girl said, as the Empress managed to trip her for the brief moment she was distracted. From there she grabbed her shoulders and dug her claws in them. The look in her eyes faded. "You can't... get away with this." She looked at the others. "You can't get away with hurting them. They always have each others back. That's what makes our clan-"
It got silent around them. Silent except for the faint, almost robotic humming sound that suddenly shot through the hall with a hint of red. "Hattie!" A voice called from the hall, the smaller group taking note. Macbeth quickly garbed Platinum and managed to find Adalyn, pulling them close while Hat Girl managed to kick the Empress. Not enough to break free, but to show her location. "Let my daugt'er go." The voice from deep in the hall said. It was then the Empress noted the burn marks.
"What on this-" She didn't get to finish, as something charged at her. Hat Girl took a breath as she looked at where Right had the Empress pinned, Reginald racing up from behind and pulling Hat Girl away.
"Papa... don't kill her... it wouldn't be..." Hat Girl felt drained, she glanced away. The cats nearby had no idea what to do. Sure, they weren't the strongest alone but they were strong in numbers, right? Yet, why was there this sudden chill down their spines... Reginald led Hat Girl to the others as the cats began to flee, despite their leader's protest. "Dad.." Hat Girl looked at Reginald, who was examining her for hints of harm. "Don't blame Platy. It was my fault. I should have told you, let someone come with me."
"You... should have. But we can discuss that better at home." Reginald said. Part of him wanted to grill into her for running away and getting herself into this mess. But, he couldn't. Because the look in her eyes, the tone of her voice. It didn't seem like she was physically harmed outside of that fight, but mentally? It was clear as day something happened. He gently hugged her, and she allowed it. "Don't you scare me like that again, please. I can't lose you."
"It's gonna be ok.." Platinum glanced to the side even as he said that. If he was honest with himself, he wasn't sure it would be. Sure, their father was taking care of the Empress now (they were all trying to block the sounds of the one way fight) but clearly she left her mark. He just needed to get his sister home so he could... try and get his sister home. "It's gonna be ok... Right Macbeth?" Platinum turned to the Conductor. "She can get through whatever happened to her, right?"
Macbeth didn't answer. Didn't even shrug, just glanced to the side. Eventually, they heard a hiss of some mumbling, and footsteps running away. A faint hint of a limp to the beat. Right Hand Man walked over. "Is s'e?" Platinum shook his head. Right didn't say anything else. What could he say?
"Come on... we should just be getting home..." Platinum dusted his jacket off, before pausing and unzipping it. He took it off and wrapped it around Hat Girl, his sister giving him a confused look. "I know your not cold but, figure you might want some comfort." He said. His metal heart almost lept a bit when she gave a small smile in return, bringing the jacket closer and squeezing one of its sleeves for comfort. Adalyn found Hat Girl's bag and brought it over. "Sorry to get you dragged into this mess."
"I mean, I always wanted to see the metro. Just hated that it had to be under..." She shook her head as she gave Platinum the bag. "I'm probably gonna head home as soon as we get out. It's gonna be late by the time I get home, I don't want my parents thinking it's more than I lost track of time." She sighed as she glanced to the side as the group started walking again. She glanced at Hat Girl, who leaned into her fathers side. "You guys are lucky. I'm not sure the Lazy Paws would have raced here to save one of us."
"If they're all like you, they would in a heartbeat. But, be more careful kid." Macbeth said as he glanced over.
She gave a chuckle. "Who says I should be?"
Reginald glanced back at the ones behind them, before glancing down at his daughter. How could he have let something like this happen to her?
-------
Things were a bit of a mess once they got back to the station. It felt like everyone saw Hat Girl, no matter how much she bothered to hide from sight. And they could all tell something was wrong. They tried to talk with Reginald, Right, Platinum, or anyone they could about what happened. The response was just 'it's not your business'. It was ruder than other responses they could have given, but they didn't care. Right now, they just had one thing to focus on. And that was her well being. That was everything at that moment.
She didn't want to leave her room once she got in. They had one of the nurses come and cheek on her wounds, thankfully none were major. As night fell, Platinum had to leave to charge, but Reginald and Right stayed with her. As long as she wanted them there. She didn't say much during that time, and they didn't make her. Reginald got to work repairing Rumbi at long last while there. Maybe in a different timeline he would have waited, but he needed every measure to try and bring his daughter back to her happy self as soon as possible.
"I feel like an idiot." Hat Girl said with a sigh when she finally spoke. Right shook his head while Reginald glanced over at her. She glanced to the side, looking down at the floor, then at her closet. She stood up and walked over to it, slowly, carefully. She opened it and opened the box inside, beginning to go through it slowly. Right and Reginald made eye contact as she pulled out a small box. "I feel like I should be recovering from this by now. I feel bad for making you all upset because I'm not... me."
"Hattie, no one is goin' to be upset because ya don't feel like yerself right now." Right Hand Man said. "They may be a little down about it. But you shouldn't try to just, go back to normal like a switch."
"Your father has a point Hattie." Reginald said as he began tightening a screw on Rumbi.
She took a small breath. "Lifda." Reginald and Right Hand Man turned to her, confused. "My... real name is Lifda. Or at leasts, that's the closest I can get to it in English. I..." she let out a chuckle. "I.. didn't even remember until the Empress put that, machine on my head."
"Machine?" Reginald and Right both said, before Right stepped closer. "Hattie, s'e didn't-"
Hat Girl shook her head, slowly walking back to the bed and sitting by Reginald, staring at the box. "She didn't do anything to mess with my memories, she just.. brought them back... She wanted to hurt me with what I had left behind and forgotten."
Reginald carefully placed Rumbi to the side, looking over at Hat Girl. He watched her slowly open the box, only two things were inside. A slightly crumpled drawing, and a bag.
He placed a hand on her shoulder, and she glanced up at him. "You don't have to tell us, but.. what did you remember?"
Hat Girl took a breath. "I lived on another planet, one of white and blue that seemed to snow a lot. I had two friends, Bow Kid and Timmy… O at least those are the code names I remember" She reached for the small cloth bag. "I had two mothers... I had a little sister. R-Ristrub.." She reached up and wiped a tear. "I hated her at first but grew to love her. We were playing once and, something happened. I can't remember but it got her sick. So sick it was like she wasn't a part of reality anymore, at least completely. There was a cure but... It was on a planet that was doomed to collapse on itself, one we were banned from going to..."
"...Ya stole t'at ship we found ya in to get t'e cure, didn't ya?" Right asked after a moment of silence.
"It was mine, just, wasn't supposed to actually have it until I was older... not that it matters now." Hat Girl glanced at the bag, a tear going down her face as she held it. "The sickness could be survived, just, would never go away. My Moms may not have been the ones in charge, but they were hire up in our society. Ristrub... has to be alive..."
"Hattie, Lifda, Look at me." Right said, gently tilting his daughter's face towards him as he sat beside her. "Look, things didn't go perfectly for ya or for 'er. T'ats just 'ow life goes. Ya did your best to fix t'ings but... T'ere are many people in your situation that wouldn't try even a tenth of what you did."
"I'm not sure this is helping much, Papa.." Hat Girl quietly said.
Right just sighed. "I'm not good at puttin' t’oug'ts into words. 'aven't been since before I met yer Dad." Right shot Reginald a knowing look, and Reginald gave a small nod, a tiny spark of hate in his eyes before he reached for Rumbi again. "Just.. know I'm sure your family out t'ere is alrig't."
Hat Girl give a slow nod, a small smile on her face. "Maybe.."
"I just don't understand how that cat even got something that technologically advanced." Reginald said, bringing attention to him as he shrugged. "Not saying this planet doesn't have impressive stuff, but I thought I would've heard about a device that can bring back memories sooner."
Hat Girl looked uncomfortable for a moment. "Well, considering how Rumbi was from this planet, yet my Moms gave me his box before I ever left our home... maybe..." She decided not to finish, instead shrugging. "Who knows?"
"Well.. I guess that's one mystery that doesn't need solving." Reginald gained a smile as he placed the screwdriver down, before handing the vacuum to Hat Girl, watching her slowly take him in her hands. "I... can't promise how well he'll actually work. But he should be able to be powered on."
Hat Girl was quiet. She slowly reached for Rumbi's power switch, and pressed it. The first few seconds of silence felt so... dead. But then, she felt the systems running inside his body, and his pink eyes blinked back to life. He glanced around a moment, before spotting her. He let out a confused beep, before turning to a happy one as he jumped in her hand.
Seeing him, a piece of her past she could never return to…alive and well again...
It made everything she went through during the past two days felt more worth it.
"Hey Rumbi." She said with a chuckle as she lifted him up, some tears going down her face. "It's so good to see you again. It's... been awhile.."
Rumbi bounced up, almost falling out of her hands but she got a grip on him and chuckled. Reginald quietly gesture for Right to leave the room.
She needed some time.

Could you do one with Ellry and Charles please?
Hey. Thank you so much. My ask box is always open for anyone to flood it though it may take me a while to do it so please, bear with me.
Kinda got self indulgent with this one since Ellry and Charles ever interacting got a hold on me
Ellry was attractive, better honest then not, they were hot to Charles, warm brown skin glowing radiantly in the sun, speckled with freckles, moles, and colorful tattoos. Bright red hair was messily stylized to a mohawk, the sides are shaved to show a contrasting black. Mismatched eyes, one red the other blue, stares down at his forest green ones, a lopsided smirk played smugly on their sharp face where they went to lean down to his level. As they did so without shame, he was able to get a wonderful look at their exposed muscled chest, the white tank top along in the purple jacket did little to hide it. Awkwardly tense, swaying his hips a bit to reduce the risk in fueling the flames any further in his stomach, Charles decided to speak, swallowing during it to dampen his dry throat with fresh wet saliva.
"I knew you two were able to fuse in all. I never woulda thought I'd be able to see it for myself and personally, you guys are hot?" He says softly above a whisper, a little on the sensually coy side.
"We did catch you staring at us back there. Nice to know you enjoyed the view"
"I did"
Large hands that could easily crush his head into an instant pulp then scooped him up in the air. Although the pilot was startled at first by the sudden action he simply shook it off with a loud chuckle.
"You're strong too. I like it" He breathes, "Do I weigh anything to you?"
"No. You don't. A couple of grapes maybe. Or rather you're like a little ragdoll?" Ellry replied, snorting, now holding him in one arm as with a free hand curiously trailed long fingers across his rich golden brown skin.
"Uh huh, I get it. At least tell me this, Ellry. Am I a pretty little rag doll to you?" Charles purposefully asked, batting thick eyelashes at him.
"To us. Yes. You're too cute for simple words"
Brushing past his white curls locks from his face and resting Charles on them, Ellry had buried themself into his neck as he purred in amusement. "Good to know"
Lazily allowing his arms to rest on their shoulders Charles nuzzles into them as well with a grinning so wide it began to hurt.

TVOGXART corporation, what the heck is it (a master post)
Tumblr media
(reblogs help my posts be seen :)
TVOGXART (The Vice Overruling Guardian Axis of Alliance Reverant Territories) corp. are globally known as being the best of the best when it comes to world development milestones that uses funds generated from each ministry's operations to make the world a better place. Most notable are its progress towards enviromental/land conservation. Even it's offices within the areas are built to accomodate for the land.
This however, is all a front. TVOG corp is a THE largest underground crime syndicate that currently rules over a majority of the entire world's fair trade market and societal operations.
They control the whole crime world, kind of like a pyramid of shady business chains, it all links back to The TVOG. They are a crime organization that literally organizes crime.
The Ministry of Order, ruled by Captain Bailfalse, is located where the GOVT (in the orignal thsc universe) stationed their army. Only this time, there are huge office buildings and foundations are built around the landscape of the tropical forest. Capt. Bailfalse may be a crime lord but he was very honest about actually conserving the enviroment. Though that virtue isn't shared amongst the other chairmen.
Btw on top of being a politely cold evil man ceo he is also VERY SILLY when being with his personal henchman, Charles Rebelivin... Who wishes his boss would act more serious whenever they're together
(More bios for each chairman (and Charles) below read more) (with art!!!)(cw. blood n eyes)
🎧Charles Rebelivin - Director in management (Ministry of Order)
"The first thing a new recruit at The Ministry of Order is told by other TVOG employees that they can always ask Mr. Rebelivin for help. The second thing theyre told is that they cannot always ask Mr. Rebelivin for bathroom breaks"
Color Motif: Primarily Red, with bits of The TVOG's turquoise green
Tumblr media
To me, an opposite Charles Calvin is someone who just hates their fucking job lmao. This guy is not at all laid back, or enjoys jokes, or buffoonery. He has to be the one who schedules and organizes everything in the Ministry of Order so that operations run smoothly and cleanly as possible. He genuinely WANTS to be a good director for the employees. They know that too. Its just that he's learned to be better at controlling people rather than connecting with them. At the start of the hv au story, he's "content" being alone.
Tumblr media
Charles R is 30 years old by the time the hv au takes place. He USED to be the youngest employee at the TVOGXART, but that was a title given to him like. 5+ years ago. He's been working here for a while, he doesn't care for it anymore and finds the title insulting. He expects the best from his employees. And expects the best from himself. Very loyal to his position as The Captain's henchman, and a complete workaholic. Could kill a guy if The Captain told him too, and his only form of questioning is asking how he shall do it. Acts as his guard dog that The Captain smothers, much to his annoyance. Je protects his boss regardless and scares the other chairmen. Is also very formal with titles, usually referring to people by their surname and position of power. Is prone to using terms such as "The Captain, captain, sir" when talking to Bailfalse. Has used words such as "Greatest" sarcastically, and "buddy, pal" passive agressively, usually on Henry V (though eventually, the whole buddy thing becomes genuine as they develop their friendship. Still going to be grump no matter what though but affectionate ok). Also expect to see less of greatest plan inverses, and more just so Charles learning how to be a decent friend within the Trio-V. It's awesome ghrhrg I can't wait to share them :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
👑Captain Hubert Bailfalse (Ministry of Order)
"A smooth talking salesman that has climbed up the social economic ladder to take control over all operations in the whole world. He believes in the value of good work ethic and polite ettiquettes."
Hedonist. Plant motif: venus flytrap
Tumblr media
He's a silly guy I love him. He inverses Galeforce being serious but considerate and honest general, with Bailfalse being a relaxed but devious and convicing CEO. Though take note: he is the only chairman amongst the rest to not have come from a well-off or rich family.
He also doesn't carry Galeforce's trope of being a "father to his men." Sees his employees as expendable numbers. But not to the level of mistreatment like with the other charimen. He pays them, hes pateint, offers them dental plans, and makes sure they'll be able to perform efficiently for the whole period they work for him. And that's as much care as he's willing to put for anybody else other than pleassure for himself.
...Except for Charles. He cares alot for Charles. And he's not subtle about it too. As his personal henchman for the longest time, he's prone to using titles such as "My boy, Charlie, sport" when talking to him. Much to Charles' own annoyance. They're literally competent henchman + silly hammy villain (with a dose of terrifying if the situation came down to it). He likes to spoil the director with riches and gifts for all the work he's done for The TVOG, even though Charles doesn't want them.
He is married to Hans Nonayme and they are literalllyyyy evil old man yaoi. augh im obsessed with them. They nuzzle eachothers mustaches and it makes them smile :) Even in public. Which adds to Charles' embarrasment to have them as his bosses. He is also DIVORCED To Dr. Dimitri J. Pavlov. But I'll talk abt that another time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
👁️Chairman Hans Nonayme (Ministry of Privacy)
All-watching. Plant motif: Oriental Bittersweet
Tumblr media
He manages the cameras. All of them. Everywhere, and all at once. He's very giddy about it and enjoys the surveliance he has over every part of the world. The Ministry of Privacy was meant to protect people's identities and personal information, and yet Hans knows a little too much about everybody, no matter who you ask about. I'm sure he has employees that also monitor the cameras, but rn I've mainly just been visualizing him doing it lone.
His cameras are meant to look like both flowers and the berries on a Orteinal Bittersweet vine, a type of invasive plant. These things are creeping EVERYWHERE in the hv au universe if you look for them. The Cowwoy Posse take great meassures to destroy the cameras if spotted. They don't make themselves known. However, if any TVOG employee (mainly Charles) sees them, their lenses blink rapidly in sucession. Which is Hans' own cheeky way of giggling at them. He does this in real life too with his own eyes. He's so weird, I love him alot.
He's actually based off this guy from the original THSC legacy edition. I always thought it was creepy how the GOVT had a whole spy camera inside of Stickmin's computer just watching his activity, and then had the guy stationed outside his home. I thought that was kinda interesting and just exaggerated his character from there. And made him gay and evil, cuz I can
💥Chairman Victoria Grin (Ministry of Peace)
Violent. Plant motif: Lily of The Valley
Oh she's messed up in the head. I like to believe that Victoria Grit is, while rough and tempered, is at least not malevolent and going out of her way to cause pure violence like Victoria Grin does. So there's that. Grin is also completely unreasoanble and pretty immature. The chairman also dreses very fancy but isn't afraid to throw herself into a fight if she's bored with all the meeting and agreements and treaties she has to do amongst the other crime syndicates and blah blah blah SHES BOREDD she wants to pull out her Peacemaker (A giant Fucking bazooka) and threaten people to sign their names on the forms already so she can go back to the more action stuff like beating up those pesky goody two-shoes cowboys getting on her nerves.
Tumblr media
Hubert can't stand how immpatient and unnessarily blood thirsty she can be, though admires her for at least being able to establish the connections The TVOG has with other factions, both in crime related operations or just regular business stuff. It helps to strengthen the grasp they have over the world. Known as "Vicky" amongst the other chairmen. She likes to kiss Hydia Stash, and are evil little girlfriends together. She makes jokes about swinging with Hershell Proctor's wife Mrs. Proctor to peeve him. And she loves bullying HJ Carterbunny
🐇Chairman H.J Carterbunny (Ministry of Security)
Cowardly. Plant motif: Jumping Cactus
To say he's in charge of the Ministry of Security would be putting his leadership skills too high of a pedestal.
Tumblr media
Hj is so pathetic. so very very pathetic. He is scared at the slightest things and his immediate instinct is to run away as far from the danger and wait until its gone. Or barricade himself somewhere. Which is why he's so efficient at the Ministry of Security, he's really just listing all the worst case scenario someone could break in. And his employees, while very tired and skeptical, add it anyways. Most of the time he doesnt trust that they did it well enough and try to add MORE security protocols, which only make them weaker as a whole.
If their defences are breached, Hj just ditches his employees to self-preserve himself, and puts the failure on them before taking responsibility as their chairman. He never considers himself as a a factor for his hubris. And so they all hate Hj in their own little ways <3 because he self sabotages their work and also because he regularly abandons them if they get attacked.
Just to ramble: One time Regal Bronzeage, local superhero, managed to fight all five of the employees all at once. And when he was ready to fight their chairman, he found that the guy had already left. not even in like a vechile he's just hiding in a tiny supply closet hoping nobody finds him
He has a brother who works in the Police Force Enforcement Force, Warden Roland Carterbunny. Roland is probably the one who made Hj so paranoid in the first place, and his psyche just got worse from there. He got bullied alot by him when they were kids, and Hj is the eldest one here. He might not even be that old, it's just that he was stressed so fucking much that all his hair turned grey when he turned 20.
Tumblr media
Just to ramble: Dr Dimitri honestly pities the guy, even though he's literally a TVOG chairman. He just wants to sit this guy down and go into detail on how to properly handle his over abundance of anxiety. Cuz all day all the time none of the chairmen or most of his own employees (Aside form Gordon) care enough to actually handle his stress in a healthy sort of way. But he'll never get the chance because they're on opposing sides, and Hj doesn't trust anyone enough to let them do anything to him.
He could have turned out pretty fine, if still riddled with anxiety like everybody else. If it weren't for the literal fact that all his colleages are TERRIBLE and his own brother being absolutely terrible to him, whether enabling or belitting him.
💸Chairman Hydia Stash (Ministry of Wealth)
Greedy. Plant motif: Sun Pitcher Plant
She loves being rich. That's it. That's the whole bio.
Jk, she takes it to the extreme. It doesn't matter what she has in her vaults, whether it be dollars, gold coins, gems even. It's not enough. She needs, MORE valauble things. And I'm talking the most insanely scalped items. Beanie babies, Funko pops, houses, land. She needs EVERYTHING.
Tumblr media
The Ministry of Wealth is actually meant to help distribute funds across all operations, both inside The TVOG and to other affilated factions. They also work to account for funds and general ledging of their budget. Her plant motif of a pitcher plant symbolizes how ever consuming she can be.
Hydia is the worst to have as a chairman honestly. Cannot be expected to always pay her employees. She's quick to irritate and quicker to throw a tantrum about it. She also likes kissing Victoria.
Tumblr media
In the hv au lore, Reginald Bronzepants is a journalist for the Cowwoy Posse who worked with Lt. HRM to help publish their investigations together, busting various crime syndicates. And well, everything links back to The TVOG. Hydia HATED this drop in revenue she was losing (it was 15 dollars) from her billion dollar generating Ministry. And so, without The Captain's permission, she enacts an unauthorized assassination of Reginald Bronzepants. Just to ease her worries. Surely this won't bite her in the ass later. Surely he won't come back as an electricity-wielding, local superhero, will he?
🧠Chairman Hershell Proctor (Ministry of Education)
Dismissive. Plant motif: Psilocybin mushrooms
Ok to explain real quick, I inversed Hershell Panzer's roll of being a brute so that Hershell Proctor could be the brains. He has thrown himself into every field of study imaginable and has excelled in every course, which in his (super huge) mind, makes him a well respectable genius. He's firm in his belief that his intelligence makes him better than everybody else. He doesn't do anything to share his knowledge or teach them to others, he wants to hoard it for himself. No one else is allowed to be as smart as him
Oh, but don't think that being an iverse for physical strength automatically makes him weaker. What he lacks in any arm and torso muscles, he has an inner working system in his brain full of so many studies and so many wrinkles. I won't explain the full extent of his mental powers, but just know that it does involve psychic abilities :)
The Ministry of Education controls the information that's permitted to be shared across the world. There's some information that The TVOG keep hidden (sometimes their own secrets or an external entity) inside the Ministry of Education's archives, guarded by Dave Pampalooza. They front as an education system that protects the sacrecy of accessible knowledge.
Does not have the best relationship with his family. And has so much seething rage towards what Hubert has and what he doesn't. Caused a certain.....incident, to prove he's the smartest of all.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Jefferson Mythsonian
"No one really knows if he exists" Rules Division 17 of the TVOG, has some really terrible handwriting
Carterbunny's bodyguards - and only employees (Ministry of Security)
Chrm. Carterbunny only has 5 employees cuz if he has to maange more than 5 he Gets Scared. They ensure all TVOG owned and affiliated security protocals are working as intended. Current members are: John Skimmilk (codename: The Fly), Gordon Debunks (codename: The Urchin), Amelia Estefort (codename: The Jellyfish), Amelia Estefort (codename: The Jellyfish), Cece Teevee (codename: The Lizard), & Kayn East (codename: The Rat) - Will be talked about in seperate post (They are the HV AU equivalent ot the squad Stickmin has in MBH)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scott McCoolsvile - Tax accountant (Ministry of Wealth)
Coolest fucking guy here. He's so awesome and the best at his job. He helps his fellow colleages in his office and the employees over at Ministry of Order whenever he visits. Everyone cheers and claps when he visits. They all love him and says he has the best name (Not Charles R though, he hates that guy. Totally). He works in accounting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
--BTW girl pictured with ponytail and cardigan judging Hydia is my friend's oc Jynx (more art) @digital-roots (they/them) GO EHM check it out too Jynx is sooo swag i love her concept and I love her character alot.
The scene is based off this interaction we had.
Capt. Bailfalse's personal henchmen (The Trio-V: Ministry of Order)
"Consisting of one puppeteer, one emo, and one grump, these three are usually sent for very important missions only. And depending on how well they cooperate, may be able to finish them."
The Trio-V of: Henry Ventriloquest, Rose Ellisha, and Charles Rebelivin. - Will be talked about in seperate post
Johnny Proctor (Police Force Enforcement Force)
Has seen better days when his friends Dave Pampalooza and Rupert Phred were still around. After Dave was sent to the Ministry of Education to work as a TVOG employee, and Rupert quitting a week later, a certain.....Incident. Happened. The Pampalooza Incident involving new re-education methods with Hershell Proctor. Johnny has cut off all contact with his father after that. - Will be talked about in seperate post
If you have questions uhm. feel free to leave them in my ask box :) i love talking about my hv au. Thank you for reading

Sven Svensson - Head of Strategy [Left Hand] (2014 - 2018)
Toppat Clan Leader (2018 -)
Tumblr media
Extended Bio: Son of the famous Swedish inventor Nils Svensson, raised a Toppat. For one reason or another, he's now the Toppat Clan's leader and is eager to get into space, rescue the old leader, and give the position back.
Despite his physical weakness, similar to the current Clan leader, he is a fast thinker and skilled problem solver. Like his father before him, he is skilled with electronics, however, chose the Clan's strategy pathway over engineering.
He was brought into the Clan at 14 and Mr Macbeth became his unofficial-guardian. Little is known about his life before the incident which led Terrence Suave to bringing him into the Toppat Clan. Although, rumour has it he was the one to kill Nils Svensson, not Terrence Suave...
- - -
I had a pretty stressful and miserable day today and I wanted to get some of that stress out. So I asked my little sister for a character to draw, and she said Macbeth son. (She only really knows about the characters from what I've read her of my fic, so hearing her call him that like it's official was quiet hilarious).
He doesn't normally have the hoodie, but I threw it on because it looked cool and needed something to exaggerate the movement :P
I'm thinking I'll do a series of these for all the main characters (instead of bio's maybe, these illustrations are very quick and fun ^^ ).
Time Taken: 2.5 Hours

About The Henry Stickmin Collection Ask blog.
I'm taking a break from blogging for a while, at least just on the Ask blog. I'm getting a lot on AvM/AvA so Henry stickmin's Ask blog is on indefinite pause.
Don't worry this is not the end! I'm still going to continue with the blog but now I'm getting into other things.
Hope you understand and send your questions soon the next time I open the blog! :3
Thanks for your attention!

Chapter 51: Reunion
Why wasn't this a nightmare? The cold wall, the smell of the beer below him, the faint pain from the shackles on his wrists. Randy was hoping it was a nightmare, despite how real it all felt at first. But he fell asleep and woken up too many times for him to be dreaming. He just didn't understand how it was even possible. Any of this. He still wanted his answers for how one moment he was on the airship, and the next he was here. Chained, with no way out, not even human anymore...
He didn't want to make discoveries about his new form, but he had to if he was going to be stuck in it. It seemed like he didn't need food and water as often, and he found himself able to stay up later if he chose to. He felt stronger during the night, not that it was useful for breaking out of here when he couldn't get the shackles off... He could float now as well. It took him forever to realize that he had been since he could move his hands freely. Was that why he no longer had legs?
He didn't know. The only one he could ask questions to was the strange woman. She was the only person he had seen or heard from since he woke up here. The one who claimed he was her Prince, and got furious whenever he dared to be honest with her. The only reason he played along was because he was scared for his life. And that maybe, one day, he'd be allowed to be free from his chains. And then use that as a chance to get away. Even if he couldn't find the clan, he needed, and wanted out of here.
However, she seemed keen on keeping him chained here. He was only removed from the wall once in his time here so far when she took him around the manor to try and spark memories he never had. He was horrified when he saw the frozen people and creatures, even more so when she just brushed it off when he pointed it out. It was like she never saw them as people. He would have run then, but she had her grip on his chains the whole time. And even if she didn't, he was still trying to learn how to move and keep his balance while floating.
He'd lost track of the days by now. He tried to keep track at first but stopped after two or three. Because what would it matter? He wanted to get out, he tried anything he could when the woman, Vanessa, wasn't around. But nothing worked. And he didn't see how keeping track of time would help. It would only discourage him if he knew how long he had been in here with no progress towards freedom. He was Randy Radman. He had to stay positive in any little way he could. Give himself hope.
"Hmmm, I should check on how the Amara flowers are doing. Some pests were messing with them earlier." Vanessa spoke as she finally leaned away from him, Randy letting out a breath he had been holding. He never liked how close she got to him, scared she would freeze him, or worse, at any wrong move he made. It also gave him a rough time for how long he'd be allowed to breathe in peace. "I'll be back soon, my Prince." She spoke in a hauntingly cheerful way as she walked up the stairs.
"Oh, no need to hurry, dear!" He called in the most cheerful tone he could manage, forcing a smile onto his face in case she looked back. Only to drop it and let out a shout of frustration when he was sure she wasn't in earshot. Why did he have to be here? He was going to go crazy if he stayed here any longer! "If only I could just snap myself away!"
He snapped his fingers in frustration, and to create a new sound in the familiar environment. He didn't expect anything of note to happen, so he found himself backing away when a red light entered his view. He glanced at his hands. Magic. Red, string-like beams of magic came from just under his fingertips. He brought up his other hand and thought about them, getting the same result, a faint warmth coming from the spot the strings came from. They almost felt like a part of him. He felt his heartbeat speed up a bit, a bit of fear filling him. He knew of magic, but he never had it himself.
"Had I had this since I woke up here?" He whispered as he watched the strings float up and down aimlessly. Were there other things he could do? How much? Was he stronger than Vanessa, could he force her to let him go? But then again, she had experience with hers for much, much longer. Even if he was stronger, she could probably overpower him. Keep him from getting free, getting too... "The Key." He turned to see the key on the barrel across the room. "Can I, reach it now? Will this work."
He had to try, going as far as his shackles would let him and holding his arms out.
"Come on, weird magic stuff. I know I just learned you exist but you gotta help me out." He whispered, watching as the strings slowly floated around, getting close to the key. He focused on the key with his vision, some instinct taking over and having him guide the strings to the key. They were shaky, but he eventually got a few to wrap around the key and lift it. "Yes!" He shouted, before covering his mouth and turning to the stairs. He didn't know if Vanessa heard that. He had to hurry.
He brought the key back over to him as fast as he felt comfortably able to. The key kept trying to fall out, it seemed. And he didn't want to risk dropping it, he didn't know how the magic would react with the beer that covered the ground. Once the key was safely in his hands, he had the strings disappear, and he began to use it on his shackle. The pressure faded the second it was detached from his arm, and he let out a breath. He didn't realize how good that would have felt.
"My Prince?" He froze when he heard her voice. It was an echo of it, so she was still a bit away. But the fact he could hear it at all was worrying. He made quick work on the other shackle. "Is something wrong? I thought I heard something?"
"N-Nothing dear! Just, saw a spider!" He called as he rubbed his sore wrist for a moment, before bolting to the cellar exit. Or, tried to. He still wasn't used to floating and barely stopped himself from crashing into the wall with his arms. It felt so weird, but he could worry about that later. He needed to get out now. He began to float up the cellar exit, using the stairs to help keep his balance as he did. "I'll be perfectly fine once I'm away from you," he spoke, glaring down the stairs.
Once he got to the top, he brought the key to the lock that was placed there, silently hoping there wasn't one on the outside. He was right, as the doors burst open the second the lock was removed. He crawled out, shivering at the snow all around, but he was free! He glanced around, seeing a wall of ice all around, until he glanced behind the wall behind him. He spotted a single path out, and he raced to it. He didn't care if he crashed into something and got hurt now, he had to get as far away as possible. And nothing was going to stop him this time.
"Don't look back." He told himself as he raced forward, barely managing to stop himself when he was about to crash into some ice. Or at least he softened the impact at the last second. He whined but shook his head and glanced to the side, pausing at the hole in the ice. It just looked a little bigger than Vanessa. Did that mean she would know where to look for him... "No, don't let that worry you!" He said, taking another breath before he went through the hole. He ran through another soon after.
He froze when he found himself at a purple wall of magic. There wasn't any hole he could get through here. He could float above it, in theory. But he didn't know if he would even be able to. He felt a little sick just getting up from the cellar, and he had the walls and steps to help him there. He might pass out if he tried to get over it that way. He glanced around for any other way, but he couldn't find any. He tried holding his hand out, hoping some sort of instinct would take over again.
"Please!" He said, the wall getting hit by a ball of magic that came from his hand, turning transparent and green. He rushed through, it returning to normal behind him. He took a breath as he glanced behind him. "She can't get past that. Can she?"
She couldn't. It was impossible... He found himself chuckling as he fell to the ground in relief.
The snow froze him on impact, and even as he shivered and rubbed his arms for warmth, he couldn't help but smile and even laugh a little. It felt a little crazy, but it felt so good to be out of there. He could see the stars again, the moon... that felt more like a painted picture. He shook that thought from his mind. Don't worry about the small details like that. Just be happy for a while. Happy he wouldn't have to worry about that woman ever again. Happy he could finally be himself again!
Even if it was.. without the Toppats, a frown formed on his face. He had to force himself to stop thinking about them while in the cellar, every time he mentioned them he was met with rage and sometimes hits. Never too strong, but he knew they would've gotten worse with time... He glanced around. There was a broken bridge nearby. Leading away from this wintery land and into what looked like a haunted forest from some kid's cartoon. Well, he didn't seem to be on his planet or realm anymore.
But maybe there was a way to get back to them. A portal? He had to at least try. He was their leader! They needed him! Java wasn't old enough to lead alone yet!
"Java!" He shouted, sitting up as the name crossed his mind. Oh god, the kid! He was only Seventeen. They just talked about him being made Randy's right hand a few days ago! Randy could have been in the cellar for weeks, maybe months! How was Java doing?! Was he handling the stress well? Was Lynna helping him? He floated up, sticking out his arms to help with his balance. "Oh, I need to get back! I'll worry about how to tell them about this when I get to them!" He spoke.
Of course, he was still clueless about how this happened. Would they even believe him? He had to hope they did. He should be able to prove his identity if need be... but he could worry about it once he found a way back home. He floated over the bridge, closing his eyes as he floated over the crack. He didn't fall. He didn't know why he thought he would. His brain must still be processing the fact he could float now. Would help him focus if his heart didn't pick up in fear. Even if it was helping bring a bit of warmth to him.
"Now... which way do I go?" He had no way to tell where he was in the forest. Where to go to try and find something, anything, anyone that might help him get home. He didn't even know if there was anything else here... Yet he had this strange feeling that part of him had been here before. He shook those thoughts out of his head as he floated forward. He knew he had never been here before. "You just got away from Vanessa, don't let her tricks mess with your memory now! You're closer than you were yesterday."
He didn't like feeling like this. He didn't like dealing with stress, even his own. He just wanted to get home so he could be himself again. So he could get back with his family. He floated through the forest, occasionally calling out to see if he would get a response. He could have sworn he could hear an occasional voice in the distance, but whenever he went the way he heard it, he found nothing. He had this strange feeling like he was being watched. He didn't like it. He wanted it to stop.
"Come on, don't go insane now," He said, head in his hands as he floated ahead, not seeing the purple vines rising from the ground. "You have to get back to your family. Your clan! You can panic later-"
He was caught off guard as suddenly a light came from the ground. He suddenly felt a bit more tired... or at least his body did. His mind was still as awake as before the light, but his body didn't react as quickly as he wanted it to when he tried to back away from the vines. That allowed them to quickly wrap around him, mostly focusing on his arms and torso. By the time his body seemed to awake, the vines were around so tight he could barely move. He tried to summon the strings again, but the vines glowed, and they didn't come.
"A-Are these absorbing the magic?!" He panicked. He looked around, trying to see if anyone was nearby, but he couldn't see anyone. He tried to get free, even beginning to bite and tear off little bits of the vine. It tasted awful, but he needed to get out. He just got- wait. He blinked, and it suddenly seemed like he was in a different area. One that looked higher up, like part of the sky. "What in the" He froze when he noticed a shadow casting over him, slowly turning around to see what was there.
"So, you finally decided to show your face." A large, snake-like shadow hissed, his eyes glaring at him with a hint of... curiosity? "You had everyone waiting. It's been two weeks since the night sky signaled your arrival."
"Night sky signaled my arrival?! You gotta be crazy! I just got out of some crazy lady's place, I don't need this!" Randy shouted, angry. He was scared, but he was also mad. He just got free, he didn't need to be trapped again. The phantom seemed to back up, as if in genuine surprise by his words and tone. Randy glanced down and kept biting at the vines to try and get free. He spat some out before looking at the ghost. "Just let me go! I want to leave this place, I have a family to look after!"
"Well well... This is different from how it went in my head." The phantom admitted, almost a hint of embarrassment in his voice as he snapped his fingers. The vines quickly disappeared, and Randy gasped for breath. He backed away, keeping his eyes on the phantom, strings just barely coming from his hands. He couldn't run, not yet. He was still in this strange plane. "I guess I know what happened to my body then... It's a little weird to think about. But at least I can stop wondering."
"Your body?" Randy asked, confused, glancing down at himself before looking up at the phantom. He tilted his head, lowering his guard a bit. "Are you Prince AJ? Because that's what Vanessa’s been calling me."
The Phantom rolled his eyes. "Technically yes, but I stopped using that name after my death. It's Snatcher now." Snatcher said, placing a hand on his chest and giving a smirk. Randy suddenly felt a lot of pity for the ghost. He didn't remember if Vanessa told him how he supposedly died or not, but he had a feeling she was behind the prince's death. And even if she wasn't, just being around her seemed like a nightmare. "She tried to revive me, but the spell doesn't work if the soul is already around as a ghost."
"And it just pulled me in? Geez, what are the odds?" Randy asked, shaking his head while Snatcher shrugged, looking to the side ever so slightly, tapping the tips of his fingers. Randy shook his head and sat down, rubbing his wrists again. They were still sore from the shackles, and the vines just brought back some extra pain. Not to mention the faint ache around his torso. "Well, I don't know how to give it back. So uh, sorry about that." He said as he looked up. "Would if I could."
"Please keep it, having a body is overrated," Snatcher said, waving a dismissive hand, before humming. "Why don't you come to my place? I'm sure you have a lot of questions, and we have a lot I feel needs to be discussed."
"I'm assuming I don't have too much of a choice in this?" Randy asked, to which Snatcher shook his head. Randy let out a sigh as he glanced down. He didn't have time to mess around for once, he needed to get home! But then again, maybe if he played along with Snatcher, he might be able to help. He seemed a lot more bearable than Vanessa, at the very least. He has a personality. "Alright then." He said, floating up, losing his balance, and almost falling. "Gah, still not used to this."
"Every time you think you got ahold of it, you mess up something basic?" Snatcher asked, holding in a chuckle. Randy nodded, giving a small chuckle as well. He could see how it could be funny. "Yeah, I get it. Although I do think I had an easier time, the tail helps with balance." Snatcher said as he gestured to his tail, before snapping his finger, the realm around them slowly fading away. "My home isn't too far from here. Just, be aware. My daughter may ask you a few hundred questions."
"You had a kid?" Randy asked, Snatcher, giving a nod before turning away to begin to lead him to his home. Gah, how badly was he treated? Was his kid dead as well? "Wait up!" He called once he noticed the distance between them. "I don't want to keep crashing into stuff!" He shouted, earning a small fit of laughter.
-------
Turns out his daughter wasn't the only one. There were dozens, maybe hundreds of small, ghostly figures around the tree where the phantom lived, all curious about Randy. It broke his heart when he learned they were all children. All were killed in one quick instant, with no adult souls other than Snatcher to watch over them all. Most of them couldn't even talk. But the ones that could seem so excited, so curious. Ask Randy questions he didn't even know how to begin to answer. He wasn't some magical being after all... well, before two weeks ago, at least.
Snatcher did eventually manage to get them all to give Randy some space, after a minute or two of watching to amuse himself. They all stayed just outside the tree, except for his daughter, who sat on one of the steps. Randy took the chance to warm himself up from the coldness of the cellar and the snow, Snatcher being kind enough to get him some sort of tea to help with that. However, Randy had this weird feeling that he was doing it more as some show of good faith, rather than being of good faith.
"Hey... was Vanessa behind what happened to... you know." He glanced towards the kid. "Because she seems like the type to do this kind of thing."
"I'd... rather not go into all the details for their sakes, but yes," Snatcher said, glancing to the side ever so slightly as he sat in his chair. Randy rested himself against the wall, floating down a little lower. Snatcher had given him a few, vague tips on the way over to the tree and it was helping, even just a bit. It was going to be a long time before it felt like walking to him, though. "But anyway. You're the second version of yourself... Shadow, want to tell him about the first?"
The girl let out a gasp. "Yes, Papa!" She said, jumping from her seat and turning to Randy, earning a chuckle from both men. "Long ago, like very long ago before my Papa's Grandpa's Grandpa's- or was it-" She shook her head. "There was the first Moonjumper. A deity of the Moon that was found here in Subcon and protected it until the day he was killed after healing the prince! But he had visions of his death before he died, and what would happen after, and here you are! Like he said!"
"He was... murdered?" Randy said, giving a gulp. Shadow nodded her head while Randy turned his attention to Snatcher. "Why? It sounded like he was a good guy."
"He wasn't killed by the people of Subcon, or even by a mighty foe. Some man wanted his powers and thought he could get them if he killed him first. Not sure what his logic was, but he was caught after the creations of the fire spirits, what killed Moonjumper, was traced back to him, and executed." Snatcher said, Randy, giving a nod as he drank his tea before it went cold. "So yeah, I would stay away from anything that looks like fire here until the last of them die off. Luckily that may be sooner than we originally thought."
"That sounds cruel," Randy stated, raising a brow. How did Snatcher know the Fire Spirits wanted to kill the original Moonjumper? Maybe they didn't, but had no choice. And what about them almost dying off completely? He didn't like the sound of that. Snatcher just shrugged in response as Randy sighed, shaking his head a bit. He looked at one of his hands. "Thanks for the warning, but I don't intend to stay too long. I don't care if I'm part of some prophecy, I'm not some deity."
"I mean, technically." Shadow Kid whispered over to Snatcher, the phantom giving a nod as Randy rested his head in his hand.
"I just need to get back to the Toppats," Randy spoke, shaking his head. "I'm Randy Radman for crying out loud, I'm normally at the top of whatever life throws at me. Why am I struggling so much now?" he asked, glancing up at Snatcher. And was confused. The ghost looked surprised, maybe even shocked. He turned to Shadow Kid, and she had a similar reaction, although there was also some excitement in her eyes. The minions (as Snatcher called them) started whispering among each other. "Uhh... why are you guys looking at me like that now."
"So uh, the toppats are on this planet." Snatcher started with an awkward smile. Randy barely caught the cup when he dropped it from shock. Firstly, confirmation he had to be on another world since he said 'this planet' and not something like 'in the area'. But also, they were here?! He could get back to them without relying on otherworldly magic. That alone brought a smile to his face. "Don't get too excited pal, you're probably going to be shocked. From what I heard, it's been decades since your death."
He froze. "My... what?" He asked, looking at Shadow Kid, who seemed to glance to the side, then back at Snatcher. He knew Vanessa claimed to bring him back from the dead, but... "Y-You gotta be joking, right?" He chuckled. "You are joking."
"That would be something I would do, but I'm being honest with you, pal. It's even in the records of the orbital station, I snuck in and read them out of curiosity before." Snatcher spoke. Randy felt his body shake and took some breaths. "See, the spell only works on dead souls. It will pull in the closest dead soul that meets the conditions of the body. For reasons that may or may not involve some past spells," Snatcher glanced to the side "That was you. You probably don't remember your death or what happened before, that seems to be normal based on people brought back through similar means."
"Hey, it's ok, Mr. Radman." Shadow Kid said as she walked over to him, jumping up and taking one of his hands. He looked at her. "The current Toppats are nice, I'm sure they'll let you back in without much worry." He gently patted her head. He was sure she was right but... Knowing he died...
"I think it'll be best for you to go and explain yourself. Normally I would say something like that is a dumb idea, but, I don't think you have anywhere else to go either way." Snatcher said, Randy, giving a small nod. Snatcher had to hide his smile. He felt bad for the man, he did. But he wanted things to stay as they were in Subcon, he didn't want any Moon deity bringing in unwanted attention. "Well then." He said as he floated up from his chair. "I suppose we should get a move on then."
"Yeah... the sooner the better," Randy said, slowly floating up and following him. Shadow Kid quickly raced over to jump on her father's back, Snatcher rolling his eyes as she climbed up to around his head. That gave Randy a small chuckle before he glanced to the side. "God, what do I even say... Hey, I'm a dead leader brought back as this thing! You can trust me!" He shook his head with a chuckle. "And you said something about an orbital station? We're in space now? Is that just common tech?"
"I think they had to steal it to get it." Shadow Kid said, to which Randy nodded. He supposed that was true, knowing the clan. They were criminals at the end of the day. "Papa, shouldn't we give the Toppats a heads up?"
Snatcher chuckled. "Hey, Carson," Snatcher called out, making Randy tilt his head. "We're bringing the Moonjumper to you guys, go let Reg know. He's nothing like we expected, I don't think you need to worry about being a prophet!"
"Wait, Prophet?" Randy asked. "I just said I wasn't into any of that deity stuff. And why are you speaking out loud?"
"I revived a toppat in the past, part of the reason why you're here since part of your soul slipped through the crack. Part of the spell, or at least my version, is he can hear me in his head. Used his middle name since it should have caught his attention more since it's been months." Snatcher admitted, glancing to the side slightly. Randy gave him a small glare, would have been nice to know. "And according to some stuff about the prophecy involving you, he's supposed to be your prophet. But you made it clear you don't want that."
"Exactly," Randy said, sighing as he glanced forward. He whispered under his breath. "I just hope Java is still alive..."
-------
Randy didn't know how long it took them to leave Subcon. He didn't keep track. He just knew the forest slowly turned alive, and the night sky brightened today. Subcon had been in eternal night for centuries; at least according to the ghostly prince. Such a sad life, it sounded like. The night sky was beautiful, but so was that of the day... He felt a strange shift in the air as they slowly approached a clearing, making him pause.
"Getting goosebumps or something?" Snatcher asked, raising a brow. Randy shook his head, he didn't know what it was. It was like they were surrounded, but not in a bad way. Almost like a warm blanket, but not wrapped directly around him. "Well, too late to go back, we're here."
Snatcher took one of his hands and moved a larger bush in their way to the side, revealing the full clearing. Randy paused. There were large pieces of metal, parts of what seemed to be a rocket, dotted about, as if broken.
"Oh god..." Randy whispered as he floated a little closer, trying to remain hidden just for the moment. How long had they been here? Were they all ok? He could see a few groups of toppats out of the station. Some walking around chatting, others working on repairs from the looks of it. And he didn't recognize any of them, at least at first glance. Was... everyone he knew gone? "Are they all ok?" He floated a little closer, only to suddenly be tossed to the ground, "What was that-"
"I got a few words for you, Moonjumper." A woman with black hair asked, glaring him up and down. She didn't have any weapons drawn, but Randy knew better than to assume she didn't have one. Snatcher quickly got between them both as Randy backed away, raising his hands in the air slightly. He didn't need to look around to know they just got everyone's attention. "Snatcher, what are you doing, get out of the way." The woman said, peaking around to glare at the moon deity. "I don't know who-"
"Randy!" He shouted quickly. "My name's Randy, I'm one of you! I don't mean any harm, I just wanna go home!" He lowered his voice as he saw her brown eyes widen ever so slightly. "...Sorry... I panicked."
"Cross, I thought we told you not to attack." A voice said from nearby, Randy looked over to see a man with two toppats on. He wanted to roll his eyes badly, the mer look reminded him of Wilford. But he didn't want to ruin his impression even more. "I understand your worries for you fellow elites, but now isn't the time." Cross glanced to the side with a huff as the man looked at Randy. "I apologize on her behalf... You said you were Randy, right? The one who almost drove the clan to..."
"Bankruptcy, yea." Randy awkwardly chuckled as he glanced to the side. "That's all on me, I never should have been put in charge of that stuff. I had my reasons at the time but, hindsight is twenty-twenty?" He shook his head. "Sorry, I'm still so… shaken. I was locked in this cellar of his ex," He pointed to Snatcher. "The past two weeks, just got out this morning. Then found out about the prophecy... and being dead... and that a lot of time has passed." He shook his head. "I swear I can be more professional, I'm just shaken. You probably can't even believe a past leader came back to life-"
"Well, it's not the weirdest thing that happened, believe it or not." Another voice said, Randy, turning his attention from the man to another that had stood on the side. And froze in shock. Jaques? But, he disappeared years ago! And he still looked the same age as in his painting. Just more, livelier? Jaques walked up to Reginald and nodded. "There's a faint echo that changes his voice slightly. But his personality, the way he moves, the way he speaks. He's Radman, no doubt about it."
"Thank you, Jaques." the man said, letting out a sigh of relief as he glanced back at Randy. "He was stuck in his painting for years. Snatcher was the one who found out and freed him" The man said, the ghost nodding with a proud look on his face. Randy looked back at the two-hatted man, who gained a more friendly smile and offered his hand to him. "I'm Reginald Copperbottom, the current leader of the Toppat clan. I'm assuming you wish for a place in our ranks again?" he asked, tilting his head.
"Anything that doesn't involve finances, please." Randy sighed as he took his hand, resting his head with the other. He felt relieved. It wasn't a perfect relief, he still had a million questions and worries inside of him. But he at least had somewhere to stay, with people he knew he could belong with... He let go of Reginald's hand, and glanced at Snatcher, offering a smile. "Thanks for bringing me back here, means a lot." He then hummed. "Although it would've been nice if you spoke up as a backup."
"Hey, it's more entertaining to see how it all goes down," Snatcher said, letting Shadow Kid down as she asked to go find the other kids to play with. Reginald gave Snatcher a small glare as the ghost shrugged. Randy gave a small chuckle, so this was how things would be until they got to their home planet, if they could. Living in a forest clearing with a tricky ghostly prince as a neighbor? That didn't sound too bad. Could be worse. "Say Carol," he turned to the woman "Aren't you one to listen"
"I didn't want him taking part of our family away." Carol said, "Not his fault density tried to make him a prophet." She then glanced at Randy letting out a sigh. "I'm sorry, sir. We already lost him once. And we weren't told who you were." She eyed the ghost. "I know he didn't just forget to mention it."
"Listen, if I was in your shoes, I would've done worse," Randy said, shaking his head. "Don't apologize for caring for the clan above all, that's a good thing for any toppat." He said, Carol, giving a small nod as she backed away to give him more breathing room. He sighed as he glanced to the side, holding his arm a bit as he tried to think. "It might take me some time to get with the program, so to speak." He chuckled sadly. "I'm sure most, if not everyone from my time is gone now..."
"There's still a few, it's only been a little over thirty years since your death," Reginald said, Randy looking over quickly. Only thirty? They moved from the air to space in only thirty years?! That wasn't even a dream when he was around! Wait... only thirty... One soul came to mind, and it was apparent that he didn't need to say his name. "Java's still around," Reginald spoke. "Just... be careful with him. A lot happened to him since your death... I think he's still-"
"JAVA!" Randy shouted, racing towards the station as fast as the wind could take him.
Jaques glanced at Reginald, putting a hand on his shoulder before the man could speak. "Let me, it'll probably be best if I helped him. He used to hang out around the paintings a lot. It almost felt like we were friends back then." He smiled a moment at the memory before he raced off. "Randy!" He called, the Moon being stopping at the edge of the station's entrance for the man to catch up. Reginald let out a sigh as he shook his head, but he couldn't help but smile. If that didn't prove Randy's identity, would anything?
"Wait, Macbeth's first name is Java?" Carol asked, Reginald, nodding. "Huh... Not what I expected... Did you tell him about what happened to him, Snatcher?" She asked as she eyed the ghost.
"I mean, I did tell our friend what happened to Java," Snatcher said, before whispering. "I just didn't want to ruin the surprise. I mean, can you imagine Macbeth's reaction to all this? Oh, I would go watch if I didn't have basic decency." Carol tilted her head. "What? I do."
"No offense but, you don't show it too often," Reginald spoke.
Snatcher rolled his eyes, deciding to shut up before he potentially spoiled things more. Reginald glanced at the station. He was curious as well... He wondered how they'd both react.
-------
The Snatcher was hiding something. Macbeth knew. It felt so strange. He was so clear about Moonjumper being here. So clear about him not being a threat. So why else was his voice sounding so strange, acting so strange? What could he need to hide... How could he ever guess what was about to happen?
...
Jaques led Randy through the orbital station, trying to make some small talk with him. Help study Randy's emotions a bit more. Randy only agreed to go slower because he didn't want to risk breaking Java's bones when he saw him. To him, it was just too weeks, but it felt like the three decades they were apart. He considered the teen his son...
Well. He supposed he wasn't going to be a teen anymore.
They eventually walked into a large area, the paintings of past leaders lining the walls. It was ever so slightly tilted, but the false gravity had been repaired enough to where it wasn't an issue for Jaques. Randy scanned around, in awe, before his eyes locked down the hall, where his painting was kept.
But it wasn't his picture he locked onto.
A man was leaning against the railing across from the painting, staring blankly at it. His ghostly purple fingers tapped against each other like he was counting in his head. His eyes looked so... tried. There were bags under his eyes that lit up along with his wrinkles. They looked like almost all their life had been drained years ago.
Randy knew him instantly. There was no doubt in his mind. The only thing was pain.
"Yeah... that's what Reginald tried to warn you about." Jaques leaned in and whispered next to Randy. "Go easy on him."
Randy felt Jaques back away into the hall, giving him more space. It was just the two of them there now...
Randy floated forward, gently, carefully. He was who Snatcher revived? He was the one who fate tried to make a prophet? What happened to him, why did he die? He looked only in his late forties, maybe early fifties at most. The clan life came with a death risk, so for most, getting to that age was considered an achievement. But for Java, it felt too young. Far too young. How long had he been dead before he was revived? Was it quick?
He couldn't ask those questions, at least right now.
"Java?"
He saw the man's eyes snap out of a trace, going wide. With want seemed to be genuine surprise, and maybe a hint of fear. He looked over, spotting Randy. And then he glared. "Using a dead toppat's voice on me?"
"No, Java, it's me!" Randy spoke, offering a smile. "I know I look different, but I-"
"I know I'm your prophet, I already accepted that," Java said, turning to the side. "You don't have to try and guilt trip me into playing that role." He sighed as he glanced down, before pausing when he suddenly felt a hand on his chin. It felt so familiar... He shook his head and backed away. "What do you think yo'-"
"You look so tired... So hurt... The years weren't kind to you, were they?" Randy asked, tilting his head.
Macbeth glared as he glanced to the side, his hand shaking faintly as he tried to control himself. "You can't be Randy."
"Why-"
"BECAUSE HE WOULD HATE ME!" It was so sudden, the way he turned to Randy, tears going down his eyes. Randy felt like he was physically knocked back by the words. He looked at Java's eyes and saw nothing but pain, sorrow, and hatred. Hatred for one's self he never thought he would see in Java's eyes. "He got killed because I interfered! Wilford used ME to lure him out! I saw him get shot in the head mere feet away from me! He didn't think to protect himself because of ME! He lost everythin' because of ME!"
Tears started to fall down his face more, his legs were shaky. He grabbed onto the railing so he wouldn't fall to his knees.
"Wilford told me he only killed Randy because he was going to make me his right hand! That I would r-ruin the clan if Randy hadn't already!" He wiped at his eyes, trying his best to hold in sobs. "H-He ruined everything. He ruined Randy's name, I didn't even try to stop him. I just sat in my room for over a decade until Mom pushed him into the airship's blades-"
His hand was suddenly grabbed. He went to pull away but stopped. There was something about the way he was grabbed, the faint rubbing and the pattern that felt so familiar.
"Have you been practicing your magic?"
The question surprised him, and he looked to the Moon creature. "What?"
"Your magic? The way you used to be able to read souls. You were always scared of it, but you wanted to learn. We used to try seeing what it may be connected to, like that Astrin deity." Randy glanced to the side with a smile, before looking at Macbeth. "Has it improved? Can you show me?"
Macbeth didn't respond, he didn't know what game the Moonjumper was trying to play now. But he decided to play along. He closed his eyes. It was so long since he last did this. He felt the world around him go black and was able to feel the soul of the being in front of him... It all faded when his eyes snapped open, and he took some breaths. He looked at the figure.
"Hey."
Macbeth just broke down then and there. Part of his rational mind tried to deny it, but he had memorized the soul he could sense inside the body. It shouldn't have been possible. Even with Macbeth himself revived, it sounded like it would never be possible to get Randy back. Too far of different conditions. Yet here he was.
"I-I-I'm-m.." He could barely think, he hadn't cried this much, allowed this much emotion to run through him in so long. It was like decades worth of tears, and joy, everything was coming through all at once. Randy took his hands and Macbeth clung to him, wrapping around him as tight as he could. "I-I didn't mean to, I'm sorry. I-It should've-"
Randy pulled back, tears forming in his eyes as well. "Don't finish that Java, I don't want to hear." He started, "It's my own fault I got killed. I don't want you blaming yourself for me and Wilford's actions a second longer. I can't imagine the pain you went through..."
"But-"
Randy hugged him back, tighter. "I know me being back isn't going to erase your trauma overnight. I know. But please, we're both here again now. Fate may have brought us together again in a.. strange way." He heard Macbeth chuckle at that while he glanced down at himself briefly. "But it still brought us back. We can go back to being the family we were... If you still want that-"
"Why is that even a peckin' question, of COURSE!" Macbeth exclaimed, pulling away and looking at him. His smile was pained, but it was the smile Randy remembered seeing from the Java he knew. He was still there, just... changed. Grown-up. He placed a hand by his face and rubbed it. "Ow, I'm, how does this even work? I'm dead."
"Don't question it." Randy chuckled.
The air fell quiet for a moment as the both of them allowed themselves to settle down. Mostly Macbeth, oddly enough. Randy wasn't sure what overcame him to handle the situation as well as he did, but inside he had been a trainwreck of emotions.
It just felt... so good for them both, to be home again.
"So... I already talked with Reginald, and he said I'd be good to stay," Randy said after a minute or two. Macbeth glanced at him, his tears had dried, but his face was still stained, and he had a smile. One that was so genuine it made every smile in the past feel fake.
"You can stay with me until we get you a place of your own." Macbeth offered. "I might have to move some stuff around but I should have enough space for another bed, or at least a couch." He paused as his hat shifted. "Oh god," he said as he took the hat off, a tired Dweller floating from it. "Alex, I'm so sorry I forgot you were there-"
"One of those kids' ghosts, Dwellers right? That's what Snatcher called them?" Randy said, getting a nod from Macbeth, "Why do you have one in your hat? Not even one of the Bunny mask ones."
Macbeth chuckled at that but still looked mad at himself. "They're Alexsandera, you heard the last part of the name right. They're shy so they stay in my hat since they don't like to leave my side. Normally I'm a brick wall anymore so it's no big issue... I'm sorry you had to hear all that Alex.."
The Dweller just blinked tiredly, giving a head tilt, as if genuinely confused. They just woke up, it seemed. They then glance around, before spotting Randy. They looked excited, and floated over, a little hesitant. Randy offered his arm to them and they wrapped around.
He chuckled as he booped the small nose on the mask, the Dweller letting out a small, wisp-like sound that almost sounded like giggling. "Did they sneak out?" he asked as he turned to Macbeth. "Snatcher seems like the type to want everyone in his forest, well, in his forest."
"He is but, this little one just wormed their way in my heart," Macbeth explained. "So I talked things out with Snatcher and I, well, took them in as my own."
Randy's eyes lit up with joy. "I'm a grandpa?"
Macbeth let out some laughter and the Dweller seemed to let go of his arm, looping in the air in joy as Randy's eyes widened when he realized what he just said.
"I mean-"
"You were always my Dad, Randy," Macbeth admitted once his laughter finished. "Just because it was never official doesn't mean anything. I'm sure Mom would agree as well..."
Jaques gave a smile as he listened to the two talk. He had been worried when he heard how it started but, it seemed things were perfectly fine now... He went to leave properly and had to stop himself from shouting. "When did you two get here?" He whispered.
"You think I was going to learn the Moonjumper was here and was a revived leader and NOT come check it out?" Hat Girl whispered, Rumbi beeping in agreement in her hands as Platinum chuckled. "Remember, I was tied into the prophecy as well."
"I doubt we have to worry about that anymore, sis," Platinum whispered. "Besides, maybe for once, it's probably best to let these two have their moment."
"Exactly, so let's go," Jaques sighed, taking both of their hands gently and leading them away. "Also, Platinum, you're not allowed to have Radman help you with a tank heist."
Platinum's eyes widened. "How long has it been since I did one of those?!"
The other two quickly rushed him as they kept walking away. The shout could be heard from the room, and Macbeth rolled his eyes with a small blush on his face. He could afford to be a bit more open now, he thought as he glanced at Randy. Randy wrapped his arm around Macbeth and smiled. He had a feeling everything would be ok.
He was a deity now, on all technical notes. What could tear them apart again? Fire?
Oh.
How naive he was to think the story ended with him.

While Reginald and Sparrow (the name other Toppats gave to Right Hand Man before he became the right hand man) were on a job stealing a statue and some extras, little Henry was attracted by the abundant jewelry. Before he knew it, his hands were full of shiny bracelets and necklaces. Hearing footsteps approaching, Henry snuck into a large box — the one the statue was inside. Reginald and Sparrow loaded their last haul and headed back to the Airship. The Chief and his right hand / husband met them in Cargo, ready to see the statue. Reginald opened the box and out popped Henry. Sparrow snatched him before he could hit the ground, but little Henry isn't caught so easily...
After establishing that little Henry has no family to go back to, Chief Wilford tasks the men who accidentally kidnapped him with his care, thus how Reginald and Right Hand Man became parents.

Wrote a small little fic featuring Reginald asking Henry if he wanted to see the solar eclipse or not.
And here is the aftermath of that, with Henry going back to sleep next to Right.
