I'm not sure if you're taking requests but i wanted to ask if you could write one with Pedro where they're dating but reader is not famous, she is actually a young artist that runs a small business on Instagram. And everyone is shocked that he's with her, but he is so proud of being her boyfriend and is VERY supportive of her both in private and in public. That's, thank you 😊💕

The Actor and The Artist

Summary: you’re hosting your first ever art show and the paparazzi make you wonder if you’re good enough.

You remember where you first started, selling your artwork on Etsy, your prices were so cheap they undermined the hours of hard work, pain, sweat and tears that went into them, still you only managed to sell 3 works in about 12 months, you were stumped. Feeling like you should just give up, like it was a lost cause and your art wasn’t really as good as you originally thought it was. Until it happened.

You thought it was a scam at first, these scammers were getting crafty these days and the Pedro Pascal, messaging you on Etsy wanting a custom piece? Come on, didn’t seem likely and you weren’t stupid. You remember asking him to DM you on Instagram, his offical page, giving the email your username on Insta and within minutes receiving a direct message from the Pedro Pascal’s offical Instagram page that at the time, had 2.4 million followers, the white tick surrounded by the blue circle was confirmation it was really him and not some bot, or scammer.

He had been generous in his compliments on your works, even suggested making a business Instagram account to gain more traction, within the hour of messaging he had placed an order and left a very generous tip, he had even followed you and kept in contact regularly upon the arrival of his artwork, you figured it was because he didn’t trust you after he had sent that much money.

It was the opposite of what you thought that kept him talking with you, he thought you were sweet, talented and had real potential and knew he could help you where you needed it; not lacking in talent but recognition. If people actually saw your artwork, people would buy them. And they did, once they saw that Pedro had uploaded an image of your artwork in his house, that he followed you, your page blew up overnight, and you had Pedro to thank for it.

Which leads you to the present, two years later and 12 months of you two officially being a couple, even though things were fairly ‘new’ for the two of you, people had suspected things had been going on for longer. People of course had said their two cents online and you opted to ignore it.

Here you were in the cold evening of New York City, in a gallery room that was cleared just for your artwork, which would be showcased then auctioned, you had heard some big names were invited, ones in which you were terrified to see, let alone meet.

“You doing okay sweetheart?” Pedro’s voice scared you, pulling you back to reality as the room was half filled with people, something you’d failed to notice in your dissociative state. You offer him a smile as he hands you a glass filled with champagne.

“A bit nervous, hoping this will help.” You take a sip, your red lipstick that matches your ruby red silk, spaghetti strap dress, smears on the rim of the glass, you clutch your purse as a last resort for stress relief, feeling the tension build as more people arrive.

“I’m shitting myself, what if they don’t sell, what if they don’t like it? What if they don’t like me?” Your rambling makes Pedro chuckle, he steps towards you, his matching burgundy suit presses against your dress clad skin. His free hand caresses your hand and your hair tickles his fingers as you lean into him.

“They’ll be stupid not to love you, or your artwork. You’ve got this sweetheart.” You look at the genuine look on his face and can’t help but fall in love all over again, this man was truly a blessing in your life.

“You’re right, I’m powerful and wonderful and a fucking great artist. To us baby.” You clink your glasses together before throwing your head back, swallowing the liquid for courage before walking to the stage that had a microphone and your most iconic artwork on the wall behind you.

You’re standing in front of dozens of well known celebrities, but the champagne gives you the courage to smile at them as they watch you with wondering eyes. “Thank you all so much for joint us this evening. It’s truly an honour to host this event and to have you all here. Just a reminder that 35% of all purchases goes to the highest sellers choice of charity.”

The group cheer as you welcome them, pleased by your selflessness to give away money to donate to charity, Pedro is standing by himself off to the left of the stage and you give him a sweet smile.

“I wouldn’t be here without my biggest supporter, he’s changed my life for the better. This is the biggest moment of my life and thank you all for joining me along on this journey. The auction begins in 15 minutes so please don’t go anywhere. Stay and enjoy as long as you like, have a wonderful evening everyone.”

The applause goes straight to your head, people clapping and cheering for you as you walk off the stage, meeting Pedro at his side and giving him a kiss on the cheek, he doesn’t mind that you leave a lip shaped lipstick stain on his skin.

The auction is intense, your latest piece was the biggest success, it was sold for $360,000. That to you, was insane, you had earned that much money on one artwork. The years of hardworking was finally coming to pay off, not to mention one charity of a buyers choice was going to have received a very hefty donation.

“I can’t fucking believe it, that was insane. Thank you so much for coming with me, I couldn’t have done it without you.” You muse as you’re locking up the store, Pedro blushes at your compliment. “You did this all yourself sweetheart, money can’t buy talent.”

You shiver as the cold air hits your bare shoulders, the skin forming goosebumps immediately, your teeth are chatting at the freezing temperatures, curing yourself for not bringing a jacket. Pedro takes off his suit jacket, leaving him in his long sleeve-white button up dress shirt as he wraps the jacket around you, the smell and warmth of him bring you back to reality. The warmth holds you in its grasp.

“You didn’t have to do that, thank you.” You look up at him, thankful for the kind gesture. “Of course I did sweetheart, let’s get you home.” The perfect moment between you was spoiled as you see and hear paparazzi come swarming and shouting in your direction, probably after seeing the event posted online.

“Hey Pedro Pascal! What’s it like dating someone not talented on your level? Is it because you want a normal life?” The man snaps pictures of you and Pedro together, holding hands and Pedro shielding you from the cameras as the flash is blinding you.

“She is more talented than me. She’s an incredible artist, not that I have to justify it. Please leave us alone we’re very tired.” Pedro takes your hand and you try to walk away to get to his car which was parked right outside of the gallery, was it a good idea, no. Was it convenient, yes.

“What’s it like dating someone significantly younger, do you think she’s dating you for the money?” Pedro opens your door and puts your seatbelt on for you, before shutting the door and turning to the men following him.

“She’s the most genuine person I’ve ever met, not that it’s any of your business. Goodnight.”

He turns and makes his way to the car, starting it and driving off away from the flashes that blinded his eyes only moments ago. He notices you’re quiet, too quiet.

“Are you okay?” He seemed to be asking that a lot lately.

“I don’t know. They’re just mean, I love you Pedro, I do. I just don’t know how you deal with that- it’s so invasive and just horrible the things they’re saying about me, about us.”

His hand rubs your bare knee as he drives, his eyes not leaving the road until he comes to a red light mere streets from your shared apartment, “don’t listen to a word they say. They’re just looking for a reaction. If you’re happy then we’re good. I know I’m the happiest I’ve ever been with you.”

“You always know the right things to say Pedro.”

“I gotta keep my girl happy, don’t I?” You can’t help but smile at the comment, he truly was a blessing.

Okay so if it wasn’t clear before, this is Professor Emma Jade. She is a Zoologist and a Animal/Nature Activist. She is an ally to the Octonauts as well as many other organizations (Ex. C.L.A.D.E.). Emma also happens to be very good friends to Captain Barnacles as well as many other activists that work within the A.S.A.

In this AU Emma is the main character. I wanted to showcase the potential of the Octonauts world by using Emma to help the audience understand how things work on this version of Earth.

She’s a very interesting character, and I’m excited for all of you to get to know her. I wanted to make up for the week that I didn’t post in between the other Octonauts refs and the last post. This won’t always happen but I’m too excited to wait for the next picture because of how gosh darn cute it is. So expect a post on Thursday!

My regular posting schedule should be every Tuesday if not then Thursdays. I’m in the process of looking for a new job (hopefully in childcare) so that schedule may change in the future. But I will be sure to keep all of you updated! Again a HUGE thank you to everyone who is following along, I hope this will be able to inspire others to keep strengthening our little fandom, because it sorely needs it!

I was really wondering how you are still friends with the artist named snow124? They are so talented and high amount of sasunarusasu community loves their art but once i saw their very rude and unsympathetic behavior because of my reposting their fan work on instagram, but that was one year ago. As far as i know you were friends with this artist even back then and i wonder if they've ever been rude to you? How you can still tolerate that person?

Hello there！ Hmmm ok I've been looking at your ask for a while and just thinking how to answer it… "should I answer in one sentence or the length of a novel?" And then I just thought i couldn't describe myself in one sentence. So here we go…

Warning！This is a long post, sorry.

First of all, I have a few things to say before answering your questions. And these things about me, if you don't mind. Okay so, I really have no idea what i look like through someone else's eyes, but i don't like to talk to people often in my real life. In most cases, creature called "human" acts only for its own benefit… This is purely my personal opinion and I won't say all, but 95% of people are like that even if they don't admit it. I don't like selfish, liars, two faced people. So can we say that I am as lonely as Sasuke? Yes I am. (I've already said that i feel close to Sasuke's character during the insta Q&A thing) but anyways… That's why there are very few people around me that I truly trust. And Snow is one of them.

Now coming back to your questions… Well…… Firstly i didn't like you calling her "the artist named snow124". I mean, what does that mean !? Many people in the sns community don't think of more than one person when Snow124 is mentioned, right (?) but everyone thinks of only one artist. So I would understand if you only say Snow124. (Just felt like you were trying to marginalize her or something, and this bothered me)！ Secondly, have you ever thought of turning the mirror at yourself before calling someone rude, unsympathetic, stupid, idiot etc? When there's a disagreement, do you really think it's always the other person's fault ? …You know what, I asked Snow first before answering your ask just because her name is mentioned here. And if she had said "don't answer", I wouldn't have answered. But why did I do that? After all, this is my ask box, my account, so why am i asking her? But actually the real question is, why do you post her artwork that she spends her hours maybe days on your own account without even asking her permission, while I get permission from her just because her name was mentioned in a question that came to me? Can you see the difference between these two examples i gave? Well, if you still can't see it, i'll explain in one word. This is "respect"！

Is that your commission? No. Is it your work? No. Is it your idea, design, collab or something? No. So then, who gave you the right to post someone else's work for just a few likes and followers? And what kind of reaction do you expect the artist to react to your disrespect towards their work? Think about it a little……

It's not the first time I've seen people call Snow rude. And maybe others are right in their own way but her attitude or words were never rude to me… I think it's wrong to expect everyone to give the same reaction when faced with a problem or something！For example; I'm not good at controlling myself emotionally …not that professional yet. On the other hand, I see that Snow is able to keep her emotional side more controlled and stronger than me. But do you think that means she's callous? I know many people don't even care about empathy. But just for once, have you ever thought about this repost issue from an artist's perspective? I don't know if you are aware but many artists even deleted their accounts for this reason！So you can't say you saw their rude (as you call it) behavior as if you were the only right side！

Snow124 herself always says she's as cold as snow. Not rude but she is aware that she has a cold personality. So maybe "No." sounds very rude to you but it's just a simple no to her, you never know. And before I talk to someone, i try to get to know that person. I already knew she was like that, and frankly i like her critical attitude. She can see details that I can't see, but I take this as help, not rudeness (and this is one of the reasons i chose her as my teacher). I mean it's not about tolerating Snow, on the contrary she tolerates me at many points (and my silly jokes that aren't funny at all x)) Also yeah there are many things in my real life that I have to tolerate, so i just remember how i was able to calm my mind again thanks to my fanart accounts and some golden people here…

Also if I remember correctly, someone on insa said i was nicer than Snow for warning them before reporting their repost, just like you anon. But after that due to another report, someone else started sending abusive messages to my personal email address. Forgot I was following you, welcome back! I saw in the tags of your bender post post you put vampire academy, did you work on old moroi? What were you inspirations? I know in the books it should have been either Russian or Romanian but they decided to go a different route for the culture

I am soooooooo glad you asked!

First, to give some background, I was asked to contribute a language to Vampire Academy by Y. Shireen Razack, whom you might know as a writer on David Schulner's hit medical drama New Amsterdam (note: David Schulner was the show runner of NBC's Emerald City, for which I created two languages!), but whose husband, Anupam Nigam, you may have heard of, because he was a writer on Syfy's Defiance—the show I poured my heart and soul into. Shireen said they were doing a show for the Peacock, and I'm always there for my Defiance family.

This time I had a partner, and so Jessie Sams and I worked to create the Old Moroi language (Aazh Naamori, in the language itself). There was very little to work with from the books, so we basically created as an a priori language that was situated physically in Eastern Europe, meaning that it could borrow from the surrounding languages, and also the languages that those languages borrowed from. There are a number of borrowings from Russian, Bulgarian, Romanian, Latin, Greek, and a few others. We gave them the option of doing a true a posteriori language that would've been a kind of Slavic creole or an original language, and production opted for the original language.

We had to rush a bit, because even though they didn't need the spoken language for a few months when we started working, the art department needed stuff for the written language in like two weeks, so we had to hit the ground running. Ultimately, our goal was to create a super sexy vampire language for a super sexy vampire show, and I personally think we were spot on.

Here's a kind of bullet point list of language features:

Oral and nasal vowels; oral vowels can be long.

Lots of fricatives; very few codas.

SOV word order with a tidy case system. Auxiliaries instead of mass conjugations.

I think the writing system we did is pretty great. Here's what it looks like (nabbing this from my Instagram):

We did a whole ten post thing on Instagram you can see here. Here's an example of the language:

Santazhonga se dulon nari oshi.

"May the Saints guide her home."

You can see "saint" is clearly a borrowing, but then there's other original stuff in there (se is a vocative particle; dulon is "home" in the dative). I think it's a super fun language. It didn't get used a whole lot in the show—or at least not the spoken version—but the written version was everywhere, and it was awesome. (Like, even the mark etched into Mia's hands when she's being punished is the for "water" in our script!) We hope this show runs for a good long time. We love it. I mean...

...how could you not love this show?!

Happy birthday Ena!!!

I don’t know if I have time to draw so quick write up dedicated to some things I love about you

Nightcord is a complicated group of kids and Kanade, Mafuyu and Mizuki all repress themself to some extent regarding their feelings and Ena is the only one truly true to how she feels. She wears her heart on her sleeve in any situation and she just can’t lie to herself. This can make her seem like an unstable, toxic person with anger issues when worst comes to worse, but it’s also what makes her so compassionate for the things and people she loves and strong and pure. Ena hates this emotional aspect of herself. When Ena says she “hates that part of herself that desires attention” in Pale Color, it resonated with me for a lot of reasons. And I also think in this moment Ena was also including how she hates how emotional she is. She hates how emotional she can be and think it just gets in. the way of things. I don’t think it helps that both her brother and father are very very calm people and it’s so belittling when he berates her art in such a cold and apathetic tone. She thinks of herself as weak and pathetic for this side of hers…. But she refuses to repress it or herself.

And it’s partly because I think she just can’t bring herself to and it’s not in her nature. But I also think it’s connected to her art to some degree. Ena’s relationship to her art is very relatable to me and a lot of other artists and what I find so admirable about her is her desire to prove HERSELF and HER hard work. She could easily say she’s Niigo’s artist on her Instagram to get followers but she doesn’t want to because Ena wants to be seen for herself. Ena wants her and her art to be loved for what it is and she’s so desperate for that approval from others. She hates the word talent because it implies the idea that you either got it or don’t and that if she doesn’t have talent she’ll never be good enough for others. She’s determined to prove those who doubt her wrong.

Yes she’s messy, she’s not always the best person or says the best things, she’s hurt others, she’s been wrong, they’re times where she was so close to giving up. But it’s what makes her journey so powerful, she’s always her genuine raw self no matter what she’s feeling and even if those emotions are “ugly” her overall goal I can’t help but sympathize with because of just how much she cares about what she’s fighting for. I especially love how she treats her friends. She wasn’t great to Mafuyu at first and wasn’t always the best sister to Akito but she’s getting better and better. And she’s never a manipulative person. The way she stood up for Airi when they were in middle school was always admirable for me. She genuinely appreciates hard work and thinks no one should hide from who they really are. And I love how this is explored with her relationship with Mizuki. It her struggle to help her friend we see it explore her own journey to self improvement and accepting criticism for her actions on top of how unconditionally she’ll fight for those she cares about as the idea of Mizuki closing them self off and going far away from her upsets Ena dearly. Because her her mind, everyone should be allowed to be their true selves.

Omg hi, thank you!! I'll gladly talk about both of them because they're so ridiculous and I love them😭

The Art class fic is such a silly fic that I came up with one night and I truly want to finish it. It's partially a texting fic— well, there's a lot of texting but it's also just a regular fic set in a modern, muggle world.

Basically, James spontaneously decides to sign up for an art class after seeing an ad online. James is not an artistic person at all, but it looked fun, so why not? He doesn't expect much, but he certainly doesn't expect to see Sirius’ little brother sat behind a desk as soon as he walks through the door.

Here's an excerpt:

James thinks, bitterly, as he comes to a harsh stop in the doorway to the classroom, that the universe is out to get him. There is no bloody way that this is happening. No, Regulus Black is not taking the same art class as him. He is just not.

Regulus is supposed to be in France, drinking and shopping and partying his way across the country with Barty and Evan, if his Instagram stories and posts are anything to go by, that is. So, imagine James’ surprise when his best friend's little brother— whom he hasn’t seen in three years— is not only back in England, but taking the same art class as James. At the same time as him. In the same building.

James contemplates the idea of running out of the building and not showing up to a single class because of this. Regulus has yet to notice him, sitting in the back with his headphones on and eyes plastered on his phone screen. He thinks that his chances of making a quiet exit without ever letting Regulus know that he was there are quite good.

The Regulus birthday fic was actually written on my own birthday. I was having a hard time and thought I would project all of my feelings towards turning older —and my birthday in general— onto Regulus, and this fic was born. It's a muggle au and it basically follows Regulus during his birthday (no shit) and how he tries to avoid having to celebrate it. He pretends he doesn't care, that it's just another day, but deep down he wishes someone (his brother) would care enough to message him. So, in good old Regulus fashion, he shuts everyone out and ends up having a depressive ass birthday. Yay!

Here's an excerpt:

A perfect birthday, in Regulus' mind, is to pretend that it's just another day. No, nothing special about this date, just another boring, tiresome day of the week.

The problem, however, is his friends. They love birthdays. And despite knowing Regulus' hatred towards his own, they always plan something.

So, naturally, he has turned off his phone, locked the door to his flat and drawn the curtains shut, because it won't happen this year. He refuses to have them barging in with cake and wide grins on their faces. He refuses to watch Barty and Evan humiliate the fuck out of him as they start singing happy birthday out of tune in a packed restaurant. He refuses to have Pandora look at him with sympathy when he inevitably picks up his phone, waiting for a message from his brother that will never come. He refuses to have Dorcas beg him to go out for the night and get shitfaced drunk.

He also doesn't want to deal with his parents today, but there's so much to unpack about all of that so let's just… Not.

He's twenty as of today. Well, he's been twenty for eleven hours already. It doesn't feel real, very… anticlimactic, to say the least. It should be a milestone, but Regulus is all alone in his dark flat.

how’s everyone doing?

okay. these few days have been… interesting to say in the least.

first off, the house: the backstory, in case you don’t know, is that the property taxes here had defaulted about five years ago. to make a long convoluted complicated 95% of it i can’t talk about due to legality story short, they defaulted… and turns out, it wasn’t even our fault. someone dropped the ball somewhere, it totally wasn’t even our doing or our responsibility for that matter. but my mom and i looked at each other, we looked at what was due, and my mom bit the bullet and pretty much used all of her savings to cover it—by the skin of our teeth, too, like the company got the check today. she’s only got about 200 dollars left in her savings account after that, but luckily for us, it’s only a once-a-year thing (meaning we don’t have to think about this again for a full year), and we’ve been through difficult times before (read: we know how to pinch pennies in our sleep) and it’s only for about a month, which is when her job starts with a new assignment.

second, my mental health. it tanked the other day, and there were a couple of things that triggered it: number one was the fact that i kept getting asked about money over on instagram. people asking me about commissions and “dealing” and what have you—i think most of them were ai generated, but who the fuck knows. it’s a deep wound that only those who grew up poor will understand—compounded with the fact that i have a very dysfunctional, very unsupportive, borderline abusive family; on its own, it’s enough to push my buttons. plus—say what you want. every artist goes through this. i’m following a bunch of artists on instagram, good artists, too, some of these people are excellent… but i couldn’t help but compare myself to them. it’s also kind of… clique-y, i’d say? kind of like how tumblr is now, but it’s actually worse because you have art involved, something that should unite all of us. tumblr… as obnoxious as this place is now, i do see where it’s coming from. but within the art community? that just doesn’t seem right to me. when you take an art class, you’re going in there to rest your soul. tap into yourself and learn some techniques while you’re at it. nobody is picasso out the gate, so you hone your own skill and your own style all the while, so it’s like a leveling of the playing field (and no, showing the biggest piece of shit to the teacher doesn’t count). but this is uncomfortable. and it’s exhausting, too, like how the hell can you people be posting to your story several times every hour? i post three to mine in one sitting and i feel like i’m overloading everyone. and, i was getting comments from people who were following me years ago asking me, “you’re still drawing?” like they were shocked that i’m still doing this. i saw that as a bad sign, like… you know when you, a fan of something or someone, doesn’t seem to realize that the thing you’re fan of is still going, that’s usually a sign of things gone wrong. and i had accidentally rehashed some old wounds that are kinda “same ol’” status at this point: my sexuality, my appearance, my body, my not feeling good enough. so… i woke up one morning, looked at my art, and just started crying. all of that pushed me over the edge and it genuinely made me want to quit. i thought for sure i was finished. i had to get away. i have to be alone for a while.

(so, if i seem a.w.o.l. over on instagram, you know what happened: i just deleted the app from my tablet, i didn’t delete my account)

third, i looked at my art and i wondered if i just needed a makeover for it. i have a new little project going right now made by some of the techniques i’ve seen on instagram. i won’t reveal it until it’s done, though. it’s kind of abstract, kind of odd, kind of… well, you’ll see it. as for the “deleted all my art files from my computer” tidbit, it didn’t delete the backup files, so i clicked on those and salvaged every single one, every single one. i’ll admit, it was weirdly freeing to have all that free space on my thumb drive.  and as for neptune’s spear… i was thinking of posting it today or tuesday, but… eh. i think she can wait a while.

Ummm I wrote a thing

It's kinda an Arachne retelling/next generation/au of if Athena had been more sympathetic :)

Age five, Arachne  was drawing on anything that would take a crayon, stick figure drawings of the bedtime stories her mother told her, of gods and heroes. She was named after one of these mythological people, the weaver turned into a spider by the goddess Athena after disrespecting her and the other gods.

Age ten, she was the art kid at school, drawing all through lunch and recess and loving art class. The older kids said that she should recognise the gift Athena gave her but she laughed them off, ignoring the warnings that she would end up like her namesake.

Age twelve, she sat in her room drawing as she heard her parents arguing downstairs, she used art as a coping mechanism when they got a divorce and she was constantly moving house. Her favourite things to draw were still the myths she had heard all her life, everyone telling her that Athena is a vengeful goddess and she should respect her and the gift she had so obviously given her.

Age thirteen, she started to question the morals of the gods, why worship someone who is constantly harassing women, or his wife who punishes the victims instead of the perpetrator. Her mother said that not all the gods were like that, her patron was Aphrodite, a goddess that was one hundred percent famous for not interfering with mortal lives.

Age fourteen, she started drawing pieces defaming the gods. She didn’t show them to anyone but they were there, in the loose floorboard under her bed. She drew pictures of Apollo and Daphne, Poseidon and Medusa, Zeus and Io. She knew these were blasphemy, that she would be punished by the gods, if they even really existed, but that would just make her an example of their cruelty.

Age fifteen, she snapped, she posted a picture of her art on instagram, a watercolour painting of Athena and Arachne with the caption ‘what do you think? Better then Athena?’. It blew up immediately- “You’ll regret that” “I actually agree” “It’s pretty but not that good” The comments didn’t stop

Age one thousand and fifteen, Athena sat in her throne on Olympus and surveyed the situation. She had been following the young woman with the name of her old rival since birth, giving her the gift of artistry in an attempt to make peace with the mortal that had opposed her, long sent to Hades. Instead the maiden had embraced her name and continued on the same path as her predecessor. She decided to rehash her point, without killing this mortal, afraid she may be innocent, killing innocents being a thing the goddess had been opposed to since her father killed her best friend Pallas. Yes, she would do exactly what this girl had been setting herself up for, failure.

Age sixteen , she had become a minor celebrity in her school as she continued to post her artwork and receive more controversy that just made her account more popular. Walking through school, art supplies in hand, a crowd formed around her, not an unusual occurrence, all yelling things at her. One voice, however could be heard about them all, that of an old substitute teacher who praised the artist and commented on the fact that she must be blessed by the goddess of art. She was met with a fierce retort with many a crone, bitch and hag, finishing with a stare into the sky and a shout, commanding the goddess herself to come down and face her, if she even existed.

Age one thousand and sixteen, the goddess smiled in the form of the substitute and accepted the challenge, met with gasps from the surrounding students. As she ascended to her regal form in her long flowing robes and battle helm, she could see the brief glimpse of fear in her challenger’s eyes, a sight that was gone in a blink. The goddess announced to the crowd that she would renounce the blasphemers blessings and will then go face to face with her in a competition of artistry, for the goddess to decide the winner. The crowd cheered and called for the rest of the school to gather and watch the show.

Age sixteen, the mortal brought paintbrush to canvas and began to replicate the tapestry her namesake had weaved in her own competition with this same goddess. She found, however, her talent had abandoned her, Zeus and Io looked like hangman drawings, the tree Daphne turned into looked like a five year old’s Christmas card. The crowd jeered and tears began to soak the canvas.

Age one thousand and sixteen, the image the goddess formed as one of glorious victory of her and her worshippers. The naming of her city Athens, the victory over Troy through the Trojan horse, her transforming Medusa to save her from the approaches of Poseidon, all rendered in beautiful detail. As the crowd roared for the goddess and booed her mortal opponent, the goddess, who was vengeful but kind, did not turn the maiden into a creature that was named after her predecessor, she instead left the girl to be punished by her peers, leaving  the punishment to the cruelty of humanity.

Age ninety two, Arachne sat in her rocking chair, quietly knitting. She had never regained her talent in art but did learn her lesson and never disrespected the gods after that fateful day. As a golden glow bathed the scarf she was knitting for her granddaughter, she looked up and smiled at the faces that greeted her.

Task 3: Sound to Text art

The sound I chose was derived of everybody in my KVB217 class typing away while in the computer lab. I was attracted by its repetitive audio and the amount of people (unassumingly) working together. I wanted to further examine my concept behind task 2 through this sound.

Concept: Traditionally as a woman our bodies have always been treated as political playgrounds with expectations on women to be as beautiful and docile as possible. This is not just a distinctive aspect to the female experience of those before us. It is important to me to share the significant impact of social media onto young women and how this new language and expectations have elevated in ways we have not seen before. I spent 3 hours on different social media outlets, TIKTOK, INSTAGRAM, PINTEREST and TWITTER and documented every video, photo and text that added a sense of these modern gender ideals, not only that women should be expected to go under the knife from the time they are self aware about their bodies but the notion upon men that they are better than women, that they work harder, that they are providers. I also documented different articles and websites that perpetrated the notion of gender inequity as well as the cost of living and hex indexation (because I find it hilarious and cant seem to not give everyone my opinion on it. WHAT DO MEAN THE INDEXATION WILL GO UP AFTER YOUVE TAKEN MY MONEY)

Likes: I know i have always liked layering as a broad term but have never explored this through film. It was a long ''animation" process of layering photos on top of eachother and it felt like something I would make on my own terms

I loved using the sound as a prompt to base my work off as it is something i know many people my age have to experience as the "chronically online generation" so using a sound that has been created BY young people in my field felt really full circle and helped me stay inspired by this piece.

Dislikes: originally the film was coloured and I felt so unsatisfied by the over saturation. I was unfulfilled by the lack of aesthetic synchrony and i felt like the colours did not apply to the concept. I felt like scrapping it and trying again but decided to play around with zero colour and began enjoying it much more. I came to realise that black and white not only allowed the audience to read and follow along better but it also helped with the dreariness behind my concept while also having this sort of slap in the face effect.

I was told that some Stans allegedly think J reads this blog and some of her posts are intended to troll us. Apparently Stans find it enjoyable, because to them the fans who don’t like her are just jealous and haters anyway. And therefore J parading Alex, teasing and hinting isn’t that concerning but rather funny when we're angry or annoyed. OK.

First, let's assume she actually reads this blog and responds to criticism by posting his apartment and „unofficially“ officially says she moved in for example, like she did while he was in Paris. That would be a huge red flag for me. J has no reason to actively seek out and troll critical voices from the fandom in general. Her Instagram comments are positive. As far as I know, there were only 3-4 instances of fans writing something critical under her maaaaaany maaaany posts this year. And one fan asked her about the art she copied, that’s not critique or hate but just the truth exposed. Only three people or so from the 2.2m fans he had (mostly female) who criticized her publicly on IG, that’s almost nothing. It’s a very very mild reaction. Three people from the 2.2m fans are 0,000136%. (Even if it would be more it wouldn’t be a lot) And if anyone wants to talk about her DMs.

I personally don't care what happens in J's private messages. Firstly, she can set it up so that she doesn't see messages from people she doesn’t know personally and she doesn't have to read anything from followers she doesn't know personally anyway. Secondly, J could tell us anything, we ourselves can't look at her messages. So I don’t care. I care about what I can see and her public comments are all positive for her. I recall Stans excusing her „you snooze you…“ stunt with her responding to hate. Made no sense to me too. A : show me the shit storm she got that justified a revenge and B: what type of revenge is it to demonstrate your „power“ over the fans by demonstrating that she is in charge of Alex content? What type of character would do that?

Ok now we come to the fact that she wants to troll us with her stories. No, people, that sounds so stupid, I can't process it. Why should she? She has everything she wanted, right? She has a dream relationship with a man that is out of her league (my opinion) and her career is suddenly going places. If trolling us brings her joy, although she has a good life, she's a bad person period. And if I imagine that Stans celebrate that behavior, I find it disappointing too. For me, J's behavior is already pathological. She takes advantage of his fandom and Alex, takes over everything he has in high speed and triumphantly parades each step on social media but in a sneaky not too obvious way. But if I really believed that she posts certain things on social media specifically to make us angry or sad, I‘d additionally consider her evil. At the end of the day, we all love Alex, some more, others less. I can't speak for everyone, but for me, I think J will do him a lot of harm (in the grand scheme of things). That's why I'm not happy about them, but rather worried. And the Stans celebrating her trolling us would be weak of them in my opinion. 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Finally, I have to say I don't think she's reading this blog anyway. How would she know this blog? Most fans don’t even know about it.

I believe she is posting what she is posting because she's simply craving the attention she gets from the new followers and because they're all there because of Alex, she clings to him and his things like Gollum to his ring. As we could see, she had to claim his apartment publicly as her apartment because he was giving attention to his fans after a long time. She saw it on IG and she wasn’t involved. It bothered her. And one story wasn’t enough to show who’s boss but several stories in a row topped by a post reminding his fans that she was in Paris with him a year ago. I believe all the other pictures were just a pretense. I don’t think she came to this blog and saw some anonymous comments and therefore confirmed their living situation.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, anon, in a very well put manner. 😊 I absolutely agree with everything, especially that I also don't believe Johanne knows of or is reading the blog, and even if she was, to be bothered by and actively trolling a bunch of anonymous people on the internet would be kind of childish and I dare say plain sad, even for her. She's a public figure, she's put herself in a position that made some people dislike her, and she has to accept the fact that not everyone will adore her. No one is 100% liked by everyone and that's life. Which leads me to question, why are the stans bothered by this so much? Why do they automatically assume that those who don't like her are hateful and jealous? People are allowed to have an opinion, whether it's positive or negative, and shouldn't be afraid to share it or bullied for it. And that's exactly why this blog was created for, to grant everyone a safe, neutral space to voice their opinions. It was never meant to be a "hate blog" about Johanne, as some stans may see it, but the fact that most comments here are negative, in comparison to Instagram, where there's mostly praise, leads me to believe that people don't feel free to share them there, because everyone who dares disagree with them is automatically attacked and deemed a "hater", "not a true supporter", etc... Which is something I don't agree with. And the fact that the stans still stalk this blog and allegedly come up with such theories (that Johanne reads the blog and responds to criticism in a trolling manner), even finding them enjoyable and an adequate response, is in my opinion laughable to say the least. Why do they take personally what some anonymous people think about a person they support, but doesn't even know them? Why do they want everyone to love Johanne as much as they do? It was never that serious and personally, I couldn't care less that they love her so much. People are free to like or dislike whoever they want, so why don't they do the same? It reminds me of that saying about people with and without tattoos — "the only difference is that people with tattoos don't care if you don't have them".

But at the end of the day, Johanne is living her best life and we're all just a bunch of people commenting and gossiping for the fun of it. Finally Wilson, some good news: The McDonalds McRib sandwich is back! It's true, even The Washington Post is reporting it: “Nearly a year after the sandwich’s latest 'farewell tour,' McDonald’s announced the McRib is back.” It is, of course, a pork sandwich smothered in barbecue sauce. You know how it is, Wilson, you're too drunk or stoned to go into a restaurant but you're starving. So you take an emergency fly pattern to Micky-Dees drive-through for a nice, messy McRib, staving off the murderous munchies. This is important or it wouldn't be in The Washington Post, right. U.S. pop-culture rules. And get this, Skelly, the 12-foot-tall Halloween skeleton lawn decoration, is back at Home Depot and selling like hotcakes. It's so popular that it can show up anywhere, according to (you guess it) The Washington Post. “He makes year-round appearances at bar mitzvahs, graduations and holidays such as Christmas and the Fourth of July.” Since we're talkin' smack, the staff here at Smart Bomb just has to relay this: Crocs has come out with cowboy boots. Yep, those rubber clogs now look like Tony Lamas, says The New York Times (for real) and they're complete with spurs. Texas gardeners are totally going dig it. Post script — That's going to do it for another insane week at Smart Bomb where we keep track of the names of towns in Utah so you don't have to. Thank goodness The Salt Lake Tribune has embarked on what could be called “The New Resident's Guide to Zion.” Last week, The Trib offered lessons in how to pronounce unique town names here in the Beehive State. For example: Duschene is pronounced “do•shane,” according to The Trib guide. But Wilson and the band insist it's: “do-kes-nee.” The Trib guide says that Tooele is pronounced “tuh•will•uh.” But the staff here at Smart Bomb knows it's really: “to-lee” town. And Vernal is pronounced “ver-nel.” Several weeks ago The Tribune gave insights to newcomers for “Mormon Speak.” That's how new folks learned that “flip” is the local term for another F-word; that “garbage” translates to bullshit; and a “heathen” is a target of Mormon missionaries who must be saved by dunking them in water. And that isn't all — The Trib offered a guide to our National Parks, as if everybody in the universe didn't already know, thanks to the taxpayer-funded program by the Utah Office of Tourism to advertise them in big electronic billboards in every airport, as well as in slick magazines. So welcome to Utah you heathens, we can't tell you how happy we are that you're here.

let black women exist outside of your perception: part two

hello hello, welcome back! today’s blog post is going to serve as a second part to my previous post. we are still talking about the representation of black women in alternative cultures, but this time i am going to be focusing on the fashion aspect of things. i’m going to talk about my favorite people: alternative black girls. as an alt-black girl myself, they have a special place in my heart and they deserve SO much praise.

alternative subcultures, or at least ones like emo, grunge, goth, and punk all have an underlying meaning to them where you are rejecting the status quo. with that, it is supposed to be this welcoming, inclusive environment. but as we can tell from my previous post, this fundamental part of their principles is lost. these spaces are still predominately white, and this is shown by a simple google search. if you were to type “goth girl” or “emo girl” into the search bar, what would you see? your screen will be consumed by most, if not all, white women. where is the diversity? the inclusivity? nowhere to be found. this is a problem because it plays into the belief that rock music and the fashion subcultures that come from it are just for white people when it's the complete opposite. just because you do not see any diversity does not mean it's not there.

however, i feel that this is one of the reasons why people feel inclined to make comments like “oh, you’re the whitest black girl i know,” “you’re an oreo,” or “that’s white people shit” toward black women. the erasure and belittling of black women and other women of color within the scene makes it so they are not seen, thus making people outside of it believe that it is just a “white people thing.” the comments are not right either way, since it also highlights how there are little to no in-person spaces for black alternatives to meet up and interact with each other.

despite this, i do feel like things have improved with the help of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. black alternative girls are seeing each other and feel more comfortable being themselves all because of the internet. it’s amazing! this is what helped me feel more comfortable in changing the way i do my makeup and dress. it’s so helpful to see bigger faces like baby succubuz and dani dissolve not only exist on the platform, but also to see how much of a following they do have.

another way that black women are carving a space for themselves within the scene is through the brand glam goth beauty, which is founded by a black goth woman named marley. marley has been in the alternative scene for a while, with over 200 thousand followers across all of her social media platforms and fell in love with makeup in middle school after listening to amy winehouse and attempting to copy her eyeliner. she later reframed her relationship with makeup as she entered adulthood, going from doing her makeup how everyone thought she should to doing her makeup the way she wanted to. this is something that i feel that i can relate to because trying to do your makeup like everyone else does not guarantee that it will look as good or feel like yourself. marley recognized that there was a different kind of beauty that she was aiming for, but its not the one that everyone else wanted.

when it comes to her brand glam goth beauty, it all began with a client needing a certain glitter for their makeup and it went on from there! they have varying products from glitters, to lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, clothing, and jewelry that have all been made in the mission to diversify the goth scene. two products in particular, the blood rose lipstick and the dark renaissance palette, were both made with black women in mind. the lipstick is a cool-toned red as opposed to warm-toned so it would mesh better with black skin. the palette, which features marley posing as Mona Lisa, was made so more black women would see themselves as works of art.

overall, i feel that there has been a lot of progress made in creating space for black women in the alternative scene. but, of course, there is still work to be done!
