Hidden Whumpee Prompts
Whumpees whose fear response is hiding.
A caretaker who has to go looking for whumpee every single time something scary happens. Or when nothing seems to have happened, but a quick movement or a sharp voice sends whumpee scurrying away before caretaker can call them back
A whumpee who’s injured (or ill), hiding their wounds and therefore their vulnerabilities. Or hiding their whole self, and caretaker has to follow the trail of blood to find them
A whumper who knows all of whumpee’s hiding spots, so whumpee can’t even hide from them
Caretaker joining whumpee in their little place of safety, trying to reassure them
Whumpee dragging caretaker into their little place of safety (bonus points if there’s no objective reason to be hiding)
The classic “bear behind the lamppost” of terrible hiding skills
Whumpees who are skilled at camouflage
Whumpees with invisibility powers
Whumpees hiding in dangerous places, perhaps unknowingly (e.g. a dumpster that’s about to be emptied, a room with limited oxygen, a teapot for a tiny whumpee)
Whumpees hiding in oversized clothes
Whumpees hiding tattoos, scars or brands from whumper, caretaker, their team or wider society
Whumpees hiding food
Whumpees hiding their comfort items
Whumpees hiding other whumpees
I personally love the hiding trope because it allows whumpee some agency, but also does a great job of showing how timid and vulnerable they are.

Some responses to "I'm fine":
"Bullshit."
"Then how do you explain that?"
"Uh huh. Sure you are buddy."
"You know, it's ok if you're not ok."
"There is no way you're 'fine' after that."
[skeptical silence]
[worried silence]
"[name], it's ok..."
"We talked about this."
"Please don't lie to me."
"You call that 'fine'?"
"Then why are you [action that reveals distress]?"
"You don't look/sound fine."
"Something's bothering you; I can tell."
"You can talk to me... "
"You're not fooling anyone."
"I just want to help. Will you let me?"
"No you're not."
"You're shaking..."

Whumpees who are each other's caretaker, both hiding an illness/injury to take care of the other because they're both stupidly self sacrificial 😅

Whump Prompt #1292
Whumptober #24: Neglect
"And just when were you going to tell me about your [injury/illness}? Before or after you collapsed in the hallway?"
"I forgot."
"You forgot?"
"I forgot."

something about keeping secrets. "tell no one about this," tugging a shirt sleeve over deep purple bruises on their wrists, "no one will ever believe you," the trembling of a lip debating to speak up, the biting down of teeth at the decision not to, the tears and the shaking and the fear and the unbearable relief when somebody finally knows.

Urgently having to move an injured character from their sickbed: they're in no fit state to be moved or to travel but there's no avoiding it, it's not safe to stay where they are, for whatever reason, and their companions acknowledge and worry over that but have no other choice-
Looking over them finally tucked up in a warm bed, on the road to recovery but a long ways off yet, weak and vulnerable, unaware of the urgency of preparations being made around them; 'they're not strong enough yet' 'i wouldn't risk it if it weren't absolutely necessary'
Manhandling them out of bed, as gently as possible, the injured character out of it, dazed and confused and not entirely sure what's going on but picking up on their companions' worry, gasping through the pain of half-healed injuries being moved, trying feebly to help but unable to manage more than a tenuous grasp on the nearest sleeve that's moving them
The journey, of whatever distance, causing harm regardless of its necessity, causing further pain, sapping the injured character's strength as they endure it, undoing so much of the delicate progress of healing, possibly setting back recovery even further.

today I offer you: hiding injuries!
consider, however: whumpee isn’t hiding this injury because they don’t want their team to find out they’re hurt, but because they’re afraid of what whumper will do to them if the extent of their current injuries is revealed. whumper can find them anywhere — that much has been made quite clear by now. no matter how far they run, where they try to hide, there’s nowhere that they can truly escape from whumper.
their injuries are bad enough as it is. smaller wounds, of course, nothing that can’t be hidden under loose clothing, but it’s enough for them to feel the sting of the cuts and bruises every time the skin around their joints stretches. it’s enough that they can’t escape the feeling of the wounds on their skin even days later. it’s enough that they have to put in an effort, consciously remind themself that no, they can’t go to the infirmary, because if they do it will be so much worse.
so they hide it. they stay quiet, they patch themself up as well as they can (but never too much, lest whumper suspect they had help), while the secret slowly eats them from the inside out. they can see the concerned glances from their friends, but no one will say anything to whumpee — not when the slightest question of are you okay has whumpee snapping and storming off.
(they know their friends will find out far too easily if they don’t.)
and so they hide, as slowly, not slowly enough, the injuries start to get worse. they’re harder to hide, going further down their limbs and taking longer and longer to heal each time, until finally, whumper decides it’s time to go for the face. now, whumpee is faced with a decision: how on earth are they supposed to hide the wound this time? it’s a huge bruising slice, right down their cheek — their hair can cover a good bit, but not enough to conceal this. the best they can do is put a patch over it and hope that no one asks.
but of course someone asks. of course someone corners them in an otherwise empty room, backing them to the wall with an expression of so much concern and worry in their face. of course caretaker just has to reach up and tug the edge of the patch up, just enough to reveal the edge of the barely-scabbed-over cut running down the length of whumpee’s cheek.
and of course whumpee can’t stop the tears from dripping down as caretaker holds their jaw so carefully and whispers, what happened to you?
because now that caretaker knows, whumpee knows it’s going to get so, so much worse.

"I just-" Whumpee's fingers curled into a fist. "I'm not broken, Caretaker."
"I know that, honey."
"I, I'm not." Tears slipped down their face. "I'm not broken. Right?"

In the mood for a whumpee who doesn't bother the others with their problems -- not in the stoic stiff upper lip "Pretend nothing is wrong and it'll fix itself" way or in the self-deprecating "I don't deserve their help" way but in the painfully polite way where they've always been so mild mannered and take up so little space that maybe the others just don't notice they're shying further into themself

Whump Prompt #1283
Whumptober #15: "I'm fine."
It depressed the whumpee how easy it was to lie, and how gullible everyone else was. Nevertheless, "I'm fine." was all they could say to avoid being sent to medical, and it was enough to keep the attention away from them and onto the mission at hand.
As time passes, however, they begin to wish someone would take notice...

One whump trope I love is when a whumpee comes back to work too soon following an injury.
The whumpee walks in the door and everyone is just like woah woah woah what are you doing back here? The constant side eye and concerned glances from all of their co-workers. The whumpee struggling to hide winces and cringes, their stiff movements betraying just how much pain they’re in, taking any chance they can get to support their weight on a counter or wall or what have you. They end up absolutely exhausted by the end of the day.
Such a lovely trope.
