Demeter hermes and hephaestus for the gods asks!
Hi hi nonny!! Thank you for the ask!! I'll answer these for Muichiro and Sebastian!!
Tumblr media
Demeter: What’s your favorite season, and how do you like to spend that season together?
Muichiro's favorite season is spring!! He loves seeing the flowers bloom and the warm feeling all around when the seasons change. He usually invites me to go flower picking with him! He's trying to teach me how to make flower crowns but it's harder than it sounds
Sebastian's favorite season is winter!! He likes how serene and cold everything is, he really enjoys walking in the snow and just feeling the wind on his hair and skin. If he's in a good mood he'll even suggest to build snow people around the farm, I always pick out some silly hats for them, it's really fun!
My favorite season is fall!!
When I'm with Muichiro I like to walk around the streets and just look at how beautiful the places look with a warm but haunting pallette that comes with the season! We also go looking for berries every now and then, it's really fun but he always seems a bit pensive or distant when we do it, he hasn't told me why that is yet...
When I'm with Sebastian we like to try baking and cooking together, I always make his favorite pumpkin soup because I know it makes him feel at home! We also pick a lot of scary movies to watch together while we're cuddling under some cozy blankets
Hermes: Was it love at first sight? Slow burn with lots of pining? How fast did your relationship progress?
For Muichiro it was a slow crush that bloomed into love!! He saved me from a demon's attack and I wanted to show him some gratitude, so I sent him some gifts and letters. After that he slowly started to reach out to me more and more, he said that I reminded him of someone close to him, I'm really glad that he's this kind, even if he's a bit blunt sometimes
For Sebastian it was love at first sight!! When we met I was talking to Robin because I needed some work done on my farm. He was really shy but he seemed like a good guy, so I decided to stop by every day to talk to him and bring him some gifts every now and then! We were spending a lot of time together and we ended up confessing at the same time, when he took me on a motorcycle ride it was really sweet
Hephaestus: Do you and your f/o(s) ever like to get gifts for one another? What kind of gifts?
Muichiro likes to give me simple gifts!! Hell give me flowers, leaves, fruit and nice looking rocks that he finds, as well as some trinkets that he buys when he's on missions on bigger towns
I like to give Muichiro drawings, letters and affection!! He has a drawer full of them at this point and he says that he reads over at least one of my letters each day, it helps him feel loved
Sebastian likes to give me gifts that remind him of me!! Sometimes he'll have trouble sleeping so he'll head on over to the mines for some exploration, he'll slay some monsters to destress and he'll usually bring me a gem or two when he comes back! He also likes to help me out on the farm when things get busy, I really appreciate everything be does for me
I like to give Sebastian gifts that will make his day a little better! I always have some of his favorite things stashed away in the house, every now and then I'll hide them along with some love notes so he can have something to smile about when I'm away!

Halloween Special His World
You never really liked Halloween. Especially what it had become in the modern age. But you still took time out of your day to decorate to humor Kiri and Mina. Today, you had carved and waxed a pumpkin to sit outside your apartment so that the children of the building could have a sweet homemade treat.
You normally would be watching cheesy horror movies with your companions and you all debated which was better. But, today they both had a huge hero party/ fundraiser to go to.
So this had led you here, in front of an alter calmly praying and meditating. Sometime around noon you heard quick rapid and aggressive knocks on your door. Confused, since Mina was at her specialist getting ready and Kiri was with his new mate, you had no idea was knocking.
Slowly opening the door you saw Bakugou looking anxious and disheveled. He seemed to calm and perk up at the same time when you saw you open the door a little wider to talk to him properly.
“Bakugou?” you questioned.
“Do you have any plans tonight?” he asked rather forcefully. Taken slightly aback you shook your head. he grunted and said. “Then you are coming with me to the Hero’s Halloween Party.” Before you could protest he was already back at his apartment and gently closing the door. “I’ll pick you up at six.”
You spent the rest of the day trying to find a costume and settled on your wedding attire. So you cleaned it so that it wouldn’t look like it was centuries old and started making a replica of your head piece. Which was difficult as the material of the attire was old and fragile and Mina had made the headdress.
When Bakugou finally showed up at your door dressed as a wolf you were putting on the crown. He took a moment to stare, his jaw slightly dropping. You let out a sheepish laugh.
“there is a legend of dragons marrying humans. So i tried to replicate it as best as possible.” You halfway lied through your teeth. He swallowed audibly.
“Let’s go.” He croaked his face turning a shade of rose.
When you both arrived heros, along with Mina and Kiri, swarmed the two of you and kept asking questions. Even though the two acted like they didn’t recognize the attire you could see Kiri avoiding looking at it and Mina had tears in her eyes.
You ended up thoroughly enjoying the night as you and Bakugou danced and ate. Even though you could tell he was pensive about the fact you were eating unknown food. You felt at ease and the dragon was calm for once on a Halloween night.

Be my autumnal muse  ||  Steve Rogers x Reader one shot
Tumblr media
Words: 1388
Warnings: none at all, just pure fluff :)
SUMMARY: Reader and Steve Rogers are on a walk, observing the color palette of nature. At the end, Steve confesses, that he’s into Reader and asks her to be his muse.
Author: Rouge
A/N: This story has been written for the writing challenge created by @fanlove-fandomlife
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You stared at the leaves falling from the trees. It was quite breathtaking, at the most. Utterly beautiful. First a green leaf, then shortly afterwards a yellow leaf stained with bits of orange and green. They hit the ground lightly, making no sound effects. You could stay there all day, observing the utmost gorgeous pattern of the leaves dying off of the trees.
"Steve!" you turned around. Steve was sitting on the bench under huge, old willow, he was drawing in his sketchbook. "Yes, Y/N? What's up?" he asked lazily, not taking his eyes from the sketch he was making. You rolled your eyes and walked to him slowly, still looking around with admiration. "Instead of drawing, you should take a look around, dear!" you giggled happily, taking a seat next to him and putting your head onto his shoulder. "Just look! Down they come like multicoloured rain. Golds, reds and browns. They are a myriad of shapes and sizes, these leaves that clothed the trees. Now they are discarded like last seasons fashions and left to become part of the soil. But before that happens they make the most splendid mosaic that is unique in all the world. And yet we're here to witness it in this moment, it's so precious!" you were talking about leaves and colors like it would be the last thing you'll ever see. Steve had made some more lines, before he closed his sketchbook. He gave you a look and ruffled your bangs. "Y/N, you're too exaggerated sometimes." You frowned softly, pulling away from him. "Why are you saying so?" Blonde man pecked your lips. "You put too much attention in such a fleeting stuff. You should focus on more important things, Y/N." You rolled your eyes theatrically. "Says the man, who could spend whole day by drawing" you cocked your brew. "Steve, please. Stop being so stubborn and serious! Just live with a moment!" you quickly got up from the bench and you grabbed him by his sleeve. "C'mon! Let's take a walk! You were drawing for last half an hour! " Reluctantly, Steve followed you, getting up and closing his sketchbook. Man slipped it under his arm. You grabbed his hand and pulled him down the alley. Holding his palm, you were walking slowly by his side, looking around and breathing with fresh, chill air. "I've read the poems from before the war. They tell of trees changing color, pumpkins and thanksgiving. It must have been nice back then. It sounds like a cosy life" you broke the silence between you two. Steve's face changed within second. He became so pensive, kind of a little smirk appeared in the corner of his full lips. "Yes. It was a cosy life.." he mumbled, but his voice was nothing more then a whisper. You gave his hand a firm squeeze. "So now you should understand, what I find so interesting in observing the nature. It's so relaxing to me, letting all bad emotions disappear" you explained shortly. Steve only nodded, still overwhelmed by his memories. You both continued your walk through the park. Red, orange and yellow, in various different shades. All of them floating gracefully on the soft breeze. It was as if a friendly hand was gently lowering them to the ground. Whispers between these leaves filled the air, whispers and mutters. The air was cool and crisp, like a refreshing drink of cool water after hours in a desert. The breeze fluttered around, gently caressing everything it touched with fingers that had been a comfort to so many over their long, lonely years. You were absorbing everything. The nature was simply breathtaking in her color palette. With a corner of your eye you've noticed, that Steve also was delighted by variegation of the world. Finally, you and Steve reached a small lake and it was where the alley has ended. A deep sense of serenity overcame both of you as you stared in rapture at the expanse of blue that lay before you. Rays of lights danced delicately across the water, birthed from the afternoon sun that both limited your sight and made the view all the more beautiful. Steve smiled gently, looking at you. "Would you mind me, if I would ask you for something now?" he inquired. You eyed him carefully, not being sure, what has he wanted from you. "Yes, I suppose..." you answered. "Can I ask you to pose for me, Y/N?" the smile was still on his lips and his cheeks blushed a bit. You felt a heat on your cheeks within a second, so you turned your head to watch the lake. "I wouldn't mind..." you whispered softly, trying to calm yourself down.
You were sitting at the large rock on the shore of the lake patiently, waiting for Steve to end his masterpiece.
"Can you turn your head a bit? Oh yes. Just like that." Steve was sitting on the ground, leaning his back against a tree trunk. He was putting all the effort into his drawing. "Have I ever told you, how much I adore your facial features, Y/N?" Steve's voice was soft like never before. "Hihi, no, you haven't" you giggled happily, covering your mouth with a palm. "Hey! Don't move, Y/N! The lightning!" Steve chuckled tenderly, then once again he focused on the draw. "Yes, yes, sorry, my bad" you sent him a warm smile. You were observing with a smile, how few little leaves fell down onto Steve's head. You couldn't help and let out a short laughter. "You look like a prince in the crown." Steve raised his chin a bit and narrowed his brows, then he reached to his hair and his face has brighten up. "Haha, very funny, Y/N!"
After some time, Steve rose from the ground and flicked his jeans from sand.
"Done. Wanna see?" he reached his sketchbook towards you. Gladly, you got up from your place and approached blonde man. You took the sketchbook into your hands and looked at the drawing he recently has made. "Oh Gosh.." you mumbled. "It's.. It's beautiful, Steve! But..." You took a careful look at the drawing again and your heart stopped for a second. You were on the foreground, the lake was a background. He has drew you so smoothly, emphasizing every attribute of your beauty. In the left lower corner of the page you found a little dedication, which took your breath away. For my beloved Y/N. You've always been in my mind. With love, Steven You've swallowed slowly, before you look into his eyes. "Why you didn't tell me earlier?" you asked quietly. But Steve only took his sketchbook from your hands amd closed it, then he leant down to you and he placed a lovingly kiss to your soft lips. You were too shocked to protest and the truth was you either didn't want to protest... You gave the kiss back, automatically pulling closer to his chest. "How long?" "Since the day I've met you, Y/N" Steve said sincerely, looking you straight in the eyes. "As you can see, it took me so long to find a courage." You nuzzled to his chest, feeling incredibly safe there. "The most important, that you've finally found it so you could be honest with me" you reached his jawline and stroked over his cheek. "So.. In the light of new circumstances.. Would you go with me for a date?" his cheeks were blushing hardly. You nodded slightly. "With a pleasure." You saw a little sparks of happiness into his beautiful blue eyes. Your hand found his palm and you tangled your fingers with his. "Let's go back home, Mr Rogers the Artist" you chuckled. He smirked on you, nodding, then Steve raised his chin to look at the autumnal sunset, which was building on the horizon. Man squeezed your palm tightly, and after that he let your hand free to wrap both his strong arms around you. You hugged to him as closely as you could. You felt, how he has rested his chin on the top of your head. He took a deep breath. "I want this moment to last forever." You moved closer so that he felt your presence, yet stayed quiet, allowing him to stay lost in the moment a while longer.

Scenes from a Childhood in Honnleath - Ch. 2: A New Friend
Ugh! I reached a point where any more stewing wouldn't actually help. So there, a new chapter ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Chapter 1 can be found here. A little fluffy scene from when they’re grown up (at Skyhold) can be found here as text and here as audio
Tagging the Rona Cheering Squad @princess-underthemountain, @element-104, @john-cousland, @gwen-cousland because new chapter ^_^
She is there the next day, sitting in the same spot, not too close to the tree trunk but well within the reach of the old, wide crown, her freckled nose stuck into a book.
He thinks of shooing her away, but as she keeps to herself and doesn’t willingly bother him, he returns to his usual oak business, and tries to find faster climbing paths, builds little boats from what he finds lying around, and carves little templars with the small carving knife, his dad had gifted him last birthday, all the while pretending she isn't there.
Still, he observes her. While dangling on a low branch, he notices when she closes her book and throws it into the grass with a deep sigh of relief. She reaches into her bundle to get out another one, immediately starting to read it. Curious, he lets himself fall into the soft grass and saunters over to her. As he slumps down beside her, she doesn't dignify him with so much as a glance. He picks a blade of grass and starts chewing on it.
“How did you like it?” he asks casually after a while, arms on his knees, looking ahead.
“What?” She looks up with furrowed brows, puts down the book into her lap, and stares at him.
“The book you’ve finished.” There’s a small smirk dancing on his lips as he nods at the discarded item in the grass.
“Oh… I…uhm.. ” Her eyes wander over to it, as she takes a moment to think. “I’m glad it’s over I guess. It was boring, but my mother insisted I should read it. I like this one better.” She pats the book on her lap.
“What's it about then?”
She scrutinizes his face, stopping longer at his eyes and their patient honeybrown gaze, and he notices small muscles twitching as she thinks, until a happy smile sneaks into her face, and she starts shuffling through the pages with eager fingers.
“So you see, there is this girl - here -” she lifts the book so he can see an illustration of a redhaired, freckled girl with two braids sticking out horizontally on both sides of her head - “and, and, and her dad’s a pirate king, and she’s, like, superstrong! She can lift a horse with one hand!”
“That’s strong alright.”
“Yeah, I know, right? … Hm, can you lift a horse?”
“Me? No.” He looks to the ground with a pinch of regret, but then up to her again with proud eyes. “But I lifted this huge pumpkin last year. It was really big, like this!” And he throws out his arms, almost hitting her in his enthusiasm. “Whoops, sorry.”
Unfazed, she nods acknowledgingly. “Ha, not bad. But I bet you wouldn’t stand a chance against her!”
“Well good then, she’s just in the book.” He shrugs with a smile.
“Yeah, maybe…” She looks pensively at the book in her hands, before her enthusiasm bubbles out once more: “Though it would be fun to have her around and go on adventures together!”
He hums agreeingly, but has nothing more to say, and so he doesn’t, and a silence filled only by Nature’s songs wraps itself around them like a warm comforting blanket.
“Did you carve it?” A sudden thought breaks through and she looks at him curiously. “What?” “The pumpkin I mean.” Now it’s her time for a little smirk, and she immediately finds herself face to face with a scar on his hand. “Sure did! I tried a mabari face. Even cut my hand, see?” “Nice.” She nods approvingly. “Yeah! Ma made pumpkin soup and her famous pumpkin pie after.” “Oh I love pie!” “Pie’s awesome! And my Ma’s pumpkin pie is the best.” He’s outright bragging now, but she doesn’t seem to mind, and both sink again into their thoughts, this time of pies, while the wind picks up a little and ruffles through their hair - hers tightly braided to her shoulder blades, with some rogue locks flittering about, his short locks dancing in the breeze.
“So... what’s your name then?” he wonders anew, and breaks her from mouth-watering thoughts.
“What?” “What do people call you?” “Oh. Well…,” she shrugs and huffs a little a self deprecating laugh, “mostly “Stopdoingthat”, I guess?” “That’s a stupid name.” “Yeah well, tell them!” “Who’s them?” “My mother and sister, mainly.” “Oh.” “Do you have siblings?” “Yes! Three actually, 2 sisters and a brother.” “Wow. That sounds… exhausting.” “Yes, well...it sometimes is. Then I’m glad when I can sneak away for a bit.” “So this is your sneakaway place?” He nods. “One of them anyway...”
“It’s awesome.”
“Yup.”
She pauses and looks down, almost whispering her next question. “Can it… can it be my sneakaway place, too?”
She looks up with big grey eyes and he’s stumped for a moment because he finds the brewing storm in the back reflected in them.
“I… um…” Scratching the back of his head, he hinks on her question. He likes to pretend it is his tree alone, but he’s very well aware that it’s not.
“I’ll try not to bother you. You won't even know I’m here!” There’s a pleading tremble in her voice that makes him draw a swift conclusion.
“Alright then. Welcome to your new sneakaway place! Want me to show you around?”
“Yes!”
“Come on then!” He jumps up and starts running. “Last one at the tree is a loser nug!”
They race to the tree, he wins only at an arm’s length because she first stored her books away in her bundle. She sticks out her tongue at him when she reaches the trunk. Shrugging nonchalantly, he leans against it and folds his hands to give her a boost up.
They settle down in the crutch she had occupied the other day. Looking into the countryside with dangling feed, he explains what can be seen, and she listens, sucking in all the information like a sponge. There’s the market, there’s the smithy, the chantry, his house can be seen, too, and oh, that house over there? It’s where old Mrs. Winters lives and her apple pie is just as famous as Ma’s pumpkin pie...
Her head is reeling with information when he’s finished, but she doesn’t feel like a complete stranger anymore. Lightning flashes and thunder pounds through the air, and they look at the spectacle unfolding.
“I’m really sorry I yelled at you…” he muses into a fading thunder. “ I just… I had a fight with my brother and it was completely my fault… and.. well…”
“... you needed to stew on it in peace?“
“... exactly…”
“I see… I’m sorry I disturbed your stewing.”
“It’s okay. You didn’t know. And now this is your sneakaway place, too, so… Never mind…”
He shrugs and smiles at her, and she smiles back and once more they settle into the bliss of a comfortable silence, each hanging in their own thoughts, while enjoying the other’s company. The first rain drops start to fall then and scent the air with summer freshness.
“You still haven’t told me your real name, you know?”
“Oh… yes… uhm…” She extends her hand, smiling brightly. “I’m Rona.”
He returns the shake and the smile. “I’m Cullen. Nice to meet you, Rona.”
“Nice to meet you, too, Cullen.”
By then the clouds open their gates. They climb down carefully, wait out the strongest of the shower’s wrath, and run home in the aftermath’s drizzle. Both are wet to the bone when they arrive, but both are vibrating with a fuzzy feeling of new beginnings they cannot fully grasp.

Short on time? Head on over to our ELECTROWEEN Mixes page where we have created an archive for all of our ELECTROWEEN productions. There you will find our latest 2019 mixes to stream and download. If you like what we’ve been creating, please subscribe to GAIA BROS to receive news and announcements about forthcoming projects and articles.
You read that right, ladies and gents. 2019 marks the decisive end to a decade of Halloween-inspired, pop culture infused music productions, which have been in production since the series’ humble beginnings back in Fall 2009. Right off the bat, you may have a question or two popping up. Why is ELECTROWEEN ending on its decade milestone 2019 mix? Will there be more EDM mixes coming in the future?
Grab a beer and find a cozy seat, then come back and join us for the details. Story time, kids!
Setting The Stage: First Mention of the Series’ End
Before jumping into ELECTROWEEN 2019 details, I need to spend a little time establishing some relevant details from a year ago.
Last Fall, shortly after we had released ELECTROWEEN 2018, I flew down to San Diego to visit Matt and his girlfriend Jessica for the weekend of Halloween. We saw the Halloween movie reboot, carved up some pumpkins, dropped by Tatsu Ramen in L.A. for some delicious bowls of noodles, and drove up to Universal Studios Hollywood for their Halloween Horror Nights (in particular, to check out the Stranger Things attraction). We had a wonderful time together.
Pumpkin carvings by Scott, Matt and Jessica
It was during this visit when I announced to Matt that 2019 would mark the final year for the ELECTROWEEN series, ending a solid run of releases spanning our 20s to our early 30s. It has become a cherished tradition… something we’ve always looked forward to with the start of each new calendar year. ELECTROWEEN is Halloween for us, and a token of our years of friendship and love for the arts, electronic dance music, cult video games and films. In short, it is the summation of everything we love, and have come to love. This was bittersweet to talk about, but in the end it’s for the right reasons.
The rationale behind this decision is, for the most part, straight-forward. Since jump starting my DJ hobby back in 2006, I have released over 30 studio production mixes, manned two radio shows ([OuteR HeaveN] and PLURALITY at WSNC Radio), and performed countless live DJ sets at house parties, bars and private events.
In many ways, I’ve exhausted myself from the art form and feel a burning need to start creating my own music, rather than curating the works of others as I’ve done for the majority of my adult years. But also, life has happened, too.
Other Happenings That Have Influenced This Decision
During the same weekend I visited Matt last October, I simultaneously released my second album, Gravitational Waves, for my chillsynth project Gravity Mission. The album took three years to envision, create and release (collaborating remotely for the entire process) after a six year dry spell from our initial 2012 debut Before The Spoken Word. I came to realize the creative process was deeply rewarding and allowed me to evolve artistically in ways I had not previously imagined. In a real sense, it showed me that the barriers to creating music only exist in my head, and that changing course at any time is entirely possible.
Gravity Mission’s Gravitational Waves album (released October 26, 2018)
Lastly, life changes have been a considerable factor, often left out of the picture here on GAIA BROS. Having moved eight times since the release of my initial 2009 mix, I’ve been feeling the need to get more serious about putting down roots, connecting to a single place and getting acquainted with my local community. After my wife and I bought our first home in 2017, I started switching gears and pursuing other interests, including gardening, foraging, craft beer, table top gaming, GM’ing and traveling. It’s been a wonderful past few years, but a lot to handle. Thus I’ve had to make some tough decisions and learn to be more realistic with my time commitments.
“Tell Us About ELECTROWEEN 2019 Already, Please!”
Whew! Thanks for hanging in here for the entire reason why you’re reading this post! Let’s jump right into ELECTROWEEN 2019 — its inception, influences and more.
As the crown jewel in this decade long saga, ELECTROWEEN 2019 needed to be fantastically epic in a way that other mixes couldn’t be. It needed flair, funk and spirit on all levels. But most importantly, it absolutely HAD to be a fun reminder of why we started doing this whole thing in the first place. Returning full circle to our beginnings was key.
Where it all began: ELECTROWEEN 2009 (released October 16, 2009)
I began by looking back on our early mixes and questioning why we fell in love with the concept of merging EDM tracks and jack-o’-lantern heads together. We were creating something different, something bold — a novel form of expression that did not yet exist in the world. Several tracks started to stand out, and they were always the ones that jacked our bodies in ways unlike anything else. That’s when the realization struck: our final mixes for the ELECTROWEEN series needed to be celebratory and sentimental, using tracks with massive swing and vibe that pulse with uplifting energy and emotion.
This led to months of heavy Spotify rotations and research, ultimately pointing to the spiritual successor of the 70s: Nu Disco! A long time fan of Daft Punk, their French house discography was a great starting place for finding similar artists and classics. What originally felt like a monumental undertaking quickly became a super synthesized formula for hot disco beats and flashing synths, and the energy continued to pick up from there!
September Reunion in Portland, Oregon
A few weeks back, Matt flew up to Portland to celebrate the end of the ELECTROWEEN series. We GAIA BROS reunited over glorious moments of food, drink and beats at home, while foraging in the woods for Chanterelles, and driving out to the coast. Matt and I carved up our pumpkin helmets for the last time and fully embraced the defining characteristic of our early mixes.
For the first time in seven years, we embarked on a photoshoot with gold and silver capes in search of Portland’s most aesthetically gratifying street art. Some gloomy weather rolled in, but we ended up working with the rainfall to leverage its luminous quality for the end product. Below is a gallery of the final images processed from the shoot, which we have included within the download files for the 2019 mixes. Continue on after the gallery for liner notes and the final cover art designs created especially for the occasion!
VII’s Decade Celebration Mix Liner Notes
From Scott: My tenth and final mix for the ELECTROWEEN series touches on the things most sentimental to me. It is everything I have to give, and everything I could ever say, in a timeframe just short of an hour and a half. This is the longest production I’ve created to date, and looking back on it, I never wanted a single moment of it to end. The mix embodies the essence of the long and wholesome nights spent with close friends and loved ones… those irreplaceable times that will forever shine in our minds and hearts.
My 2019 mix is divided up into three seamlessly transitioning acts: a soaring and lofty Halloween introduction at-length (VG OST and Synthwave), an all night long celebration (Nu Disco), and finally a sincere and heartfelt closure, painting a pensive mood with vulnerable feelings of love, melancholy and, ultimately, acceptance.
Samples from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night are most prevalently stitched in between tracks. I completely fell in love with this game upon its release this past summer. Matt and I have patiently waited four years for this game, as we were original backers from the April 2015 Kickstarter campaign. It’s clear that Koji Igarashi and Michiru Yamane have put their souls into this beautiful masterwork. I also drew samples from other favorites including Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Game of Thrones, and 300, which all have their own places within the narrative of this work.
Having ventured into the darkness (perhaps a little too long) in years past, I’ve found my way back to the grooves that bring the “feel good” vibes in spades. I should note here that initially I had started working on this mix back in March 2019 in order to get a head start on the final mix concept. With that said, I am extremely satisfied with the end product. The coin design illustration I created for the cover art came together effortlessly based on the passion encompassing this special time. The whole process has been cathartic on a deep level. I’m grateful for these ten years of ELECTROWEEN and will always take them with me into whatever comes next. Special thanks goes to Matt for believing in this project and being a great collaborator, my wife Lindsey for her support and encouragement, and David for listening and being a loyal fan all these years.
Loveless’ Decade Celebration Mix Liner Notes
From Matt: OHHHHH MAN! Has it been a decade already? Where did all the time fly? I was just a wee lad yesterday bumping to Scott’s mixes and now I’m a seasoned vet of the Halloween variety. Tonight I am going to see Lana Del Rey with my girlfriend which will be a great cap on the end of ELECTROWEEN. Lana’s moody and melodic music is of a bygone era. She really evokes the spirit of ELECTROWEEN (side note: thank you to Jessica, my aforementioned girlfriend, for introducing Lana to me). This year I open with an instrumental and a remix of her first big hit, Video Games. A song that reminds me of a few weekends ago when I visited Scott.
We went mushroom foraging and shot the ELECTROWEEN liner photos. We haven’t shot photos like that since 2012 and it was amazing. The rain followed us every spot we went that day, brightening up all the colors. It was a tough shoot, but well worth the results.
We also went to a retro video game bar in Portland. There, we found the Sega Genesis version of TMNT: Hyperstone Heist. I haven’t played that game since I was in grade school and it was an incredible moment to share with Scott. The song “Video Games” evokes a simpler time with a tinge of melancholy. I think I’ll always pair this experience and that song together.
ELECTROWEEN is coming to an end. As I type that, my heart hurts. When Scott and I spoke about it earlier this year, it bothered me. I wasn’t upset with the decision, but ELECTROWEEN has become an integral part of who I am. However, it is important to move on and hone our passions. You cannot be married to every creative thing you do, and ELECTROWEEN has come to a fitting end. I think Scott and I will take everything we learned over the years and make something truly magical and different in 2020.
As for my mix, this year it was more personal. I skipped many of the video game pleasantries that have made up ELECTROWEEN’s previous iterations. I tried to throw in all styles of music we’ve used in the past 10 years and kept the overall mix more funky and positive. Halloween is for mischief after all!
In 2019 Loveless (my DJ persona) is locked away in a mental institution and the key is thrown away. This, of course, is the end of ELECTROWEEN and Loveless’ fate is uncertain, but you always gotta leave the end open for a sequel. Thank you to everyone who has listened to these mixes over the years. It has been a labor of love that I wouldn’t have traded for anything else. From now until the end of time the crisp Autumn air will always feel like ELECTROWEEN to me.
Thanks For Listening and Being A Part of ELECTROWEEN!
We sincerely hope that you enjoy the ELECTROWEEN 2019 mixes while testing out some of your best moves this Halloween season. Whether this is the first mix you’ve listened to of ours or your tenth, we want to thank you for being a part of our community and keeping the spirit of Halloween alive. ELECTROWEEN has been one of the most meaningful projects of our entire lives, and it will always be here, preserved in time. The mixes will continue to be available on GAIA BROS well into the future; feel free to dive back in any time.
The era of ELECTROWEEN officially ends here, and a new one begins. What is to come, no one can know for sure…
I’d like to close this significant chapter of our lives with a special quote:
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is more people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman
Peace, Love, Unity and Respect — forever and always. ❤
