I was messing around on procreate and came out with this! This is one of my pieces where nothing I do ever goes right, but I still had fun working on it!
My OC Holly Legrand and @tinymintywolf ‘s OC Violet Spark. I feel like they might get along pretty well!

This is a list of fantasy books that I read in 2019 that I didn’t really write full reviews for but I still wanted to share my ratings for them! There’s a few not on this list but it just means that I have already written a review for them on here!
My full reading list can be found on my [Goodreads]!

Top 5 (series I will start in 2023) Tuesday
I mean, really I could just as easily say all of them because it most certainly feels as though I’ll be wanting to start at least 20 series.. on top of the (at least) 20 series that I started in 2022. ANYWAY! Let’s go!!
Thank you ever so much to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads for giving us this prompt, amongst so many others. To see which series she’s promised to start this year (but also no pressure)…

For the ask game: 61. your favorite horror novel (scary, creepy, etc. along those lines if horror isn’t your thing 🙂)
Oooooh ok, I can do this lol. (I love horror.)
Ok, no, I can not do this lmao. Gotta list multiple options because I am incapable of just picking one 🤷🏻♀️
My favorite that I've read this year so far is either Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield or maybe Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
My fave YA options I don't see people talk about too often are Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand, The Girl From the Well by Rin Chupeco and Clown in a Cornfield by Adam Cesare.
Fave I think is a little underrated: Cackle by Rachel Harrison. Oh and also In the Shadow of Spindrift House and Into the Drowning Deep (and it's prequel, Rolling in the Deep) by Mira Grant (aka Seanan McGuire).
Also, I have to shout out Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu, A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson, and The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black for vampire stories that aren't sweet, lovey romance.
And my fave middle grade horror right now is probably the Small Spaces series by Katherine Arden.
🥲 I could go on but I'm going to rein it in here lol

Clear My Bookshelf Goal 2024
Since I plan on going back to my Ph.D (if I'm admitted for the 2025 program), I'm starting to formulate a plan to clear out a lot of my belongings (clothes, shoes, etc).
I have way too many books on my shelf and no room for new ones. So my goal for 2024 is to:
1.) Read the books on my shelf
2.) Donate or sell them after I finish reading it
So, I'm making this list so I can hold myself accountable. I'll reblog my progress when a book on my shelf has been read and moved to my donation pile 😊
This will be updated again because these are just the books in my apartment. I have a ton back at my Mom's house that needs to be read through and donated.
Books:
The Vanished Queen by Lisbeth Campbell []
The Hazelwood by Melissa Albert []
Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow []
One Last Stop by Casey McQuinston []
The Blood Trials by N.E. Davenport []
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman []
A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn []
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell []
Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea []
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger []
Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri []
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides []
Where She Went by Gayle Forman []
Frankly in Love by David Yoon []
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black []
Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu []
The Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie []
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle []
City of Dusk by Tara Sim []
Furyborn by Claire Legrand []
Rebel by Marie Lu []

As much as we love diving into series and having something to (painfully) look forward to, we also appreciate a good standalone! It’s refreshing to be able to experience all the things we love about fantasy—vivid and rich worlds, magic, mythology, kingdoms, and more—in just one book.

November 2022 TBR and Some Schedule Changes
Hello my reading pals
I can’t believe that it is already November. This year has blown by. I felt like as a child days lasted forever and now it seems like I neve have enough time to do anything.
That doesn’t mean I don’t have time to read of course ;)
As mentioned in my last post, I didn’t get around to reading much in October as I had fallen into a reading slump (which is okay). However, I am feeling far more motivated a week into November (yes sorry this is taking so long to get these posts up) and I want to read a lot more this month. In November I plan on finishing up a few series and getting into sequels so that I can start with some new series in 2023 (that can’t be a real year come on).
The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
It is no shock that I absolutely love Brandon Sanderson. I loved Mistborn when I started it earlier this year and I’ve really wanted to complete the series for the past few months now. I don’t want this story to end at all but I know that I will love this book and it will allow me to dig into other series by Sanderson without feeling guilty
Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson
It is definitely ambitious for me to have 2 of Sanderson’s novels on here but that is why it is called a TBR. I loved Way of Kings and if I may be wrong but I think the next Stormlight book comes out in 2023 and if I could catch up with the series it would make me very happy.
Lightbringer by Claire Legrand
You all saw how much I raved about the first two books in this series when I read them yet I have not read the conclusion of the series (this a common theme for me). I’m not sure if it was the length that got to me or the fact that I read the first 2 back to back and just needed a break. Regardless, I want to see how this series ends and I miss these characters so much and there is so much in the first two books that need to be explained.
As Good as Dead by Holly Jackson
I read A Good Girls Guide to Murder this year and was absolutely blown away with it. It was truly a phenomenal book. I read the sequel and wasn’t as thrilled with it and I almost put the series down completely. However, after reading some of the reviews and the synopsis for the conclusion I think I want to read it (as soon as I can find a paperback copy).
These are just a few of the series that I am wanting to conclude/continue this month. I need to be better about finishing the series if I like them. I’m sure you have noticed that a lot of these were the final books in a series and that is because when I like something, I don’t want it to end. Yet, I need to make more space for new favorites.
You may have noticed the title and saw that I am going to be doing some schedule changes. I am a college student and finals are coming up very soon so I will be reducing posts to just twice a month. I will be doing a wrap up and a TBR list instead of all of those plus a mid month check in. If at any time you are interested in what I am currently reading check out my Goodreads, I also tend to post fuller reviews there and you get to see my thoughts as I am reading. This is hopefully just a temporary change and I will be back on a normal(ish) schedule in 2023.
Have fun with your fall adventures!
Much Love,
June <3
P.S. If you are in the U.S. and able to vote go do so! Make the change we need to see in this world!

Susan Sarandon and Burt Lancaster in Atlantic City (Louis Malle, 1980)
Cast: Burt Lancaster, Susan Sarandon, Kate Reid, Michel Piccoli, Hollis McLaren, Robert Joy, Al Waxman, Robert Goulet, Moses Znaimer, Angus MacInnes, Sean Sullivan, Wallace Shawn. Screenplay: John Guare. Cinematography: Richard Ciupka. Production design: Anne Pritchard. Film editing: Suzanne Baron. Music: Michel Legrand*.
Old gangsters, like old gunfighters, make good movie protagonists, witness the success of Martin Scorsese's The Irishman (2019). There's something about a survivor's story that draws us in, giving veteran actors good roles to play at the waning of their careers. But director Louis Malle and screenwriter John Guare give us a special twist on the survivor's story, eventually revealing their old gangster to be a bit of a fraud, a hanger-on after all the big guns have been killed off, a has-been who is really a never-was. Hence the glee of the elderly Lou Pascal when he actually guns down two thugs -- something he never had the nerve to do when he was a bit player in the mob. Atlantic City works neatly with two kind of dreamers, both with impossible dreams. Lou's dreams are impossible because they're about an illusory past in which he was a big shot, whereas the dreams of the young, like Sally Matthews's, are impossible because they don't have what it takes to fulfill them. Burt Lancaster and Susan Sarandon got Oscar nominations for playing Lou and Sally, and the film itself racked up nominations in the three other categories in the "top five": picture, director, and screenplay. It won none of them, but like so many Oscar also-rans it has become more valued over the years than most of the winners: Who today remembers Chariots of Fire, which won for best picture and for Colin Welland's screenplay, or has the endurance to sit through Reds, for which Warren Beatty won best director? I cherish Atlantic City for the many unexpected angles through which it views its sort-of-lovable losers, for its use of the crumbling old Atlantic City as a metaphor for the ravages of time, and for lines like Lou's "You should have seen the Atlantic Ocean in those days."
*A courtesy credit: Although Malle commissioned a score from Legrand, he decided not to use it. The only music in the film is diegetic, like Sally's tape recording of Bellini's "Casta Diva" and Robert Goulet' s rendition of Paul Anka's "Atlantic City, My Old Friend."

JPV852: Only the second time seeing this (last was probably in the early 2000s on DVD) and thought it was okay but guess like others, this has grown on me. Laughed throughout even when the dialogue wasn’t the greatest, but I have an appreciation...

Black Cat I’m Sorry The Nice Emt Is On Vacation Shirt
Black Cat I’m Sorry The Nice Emt Is On Vacation Shirt . Another can’t-miss Christmas musical with Bing Crosby. The movie also stars Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen, and Rosemary Clooney (aunt of George!) in a colorful, feather-filled musical extravaganza you could watch for the costumes alone. The wardrobes, coupled with Irving Berlin’s score, make this film an audio-visual treat. This fantastical film strings together Mother Goose’s coterie (Little Bo Peep; Mary, Quite Contrary; Tom, the Piper’s Son) in a theatrical musical based on Victor Herbert’s operetta of the same name. Before Tom and Mary can live happily ever after, seemingly everything goes awry. It’s not a holiday movie, per se, but Jacques Demy and Michel Legrand’s color-saturated 1964 musical—starring Catherine Deneuve and the late Nino Castelnuovo as young lovers separated by the Algerian War—does conclude on Christmas Eve, in spectacularly sad (if also prettily snow-dusted) fashion. This classic may have been made more than five decades ago, but it’s still hard to top as one of the best animated Christmas movies of all time. If the adventures of Charlie, Lucy, Snoopy, and the gang aren’t enough of a selling point for you, the music—composed by jazz legend Vince Guaraldi—is holly-jolly enough to get you in the holiday mood.
