Daredevil

My Guardian Avengers (Can I Get A Refund?) - prettybirdy979

Daredevil needs to protect a certain law firm in Hell's Kitchen. He's a little slack about protecting this Matt Murdock fellow though, and the Avengers are only too happy to step in to help. Matt is SO not okay with this. (Shut up Foggy, so what if it's his own fault!)

Prettybirdy979 has done 'Daredevil meets the Avengers' like ten times, and you know what? they hit it out of the park every time. Hell yeah! This one is just as fun, and it's always nice to read a new (uh, new-ish) fic from an author you love :D

Disco Elysium

Excerpts from the Case Notes of Kim Kitsuragi - Hosekisama

Excerpts reference Lieutenant Double-Yefreitor Du Bois' belief that he can (and does) "reload" his own life after failing, like some kind of video game character.

Disco Elysium plays with so many fun video game mechanics, like the 'jamrock shuffle', so honestly the idea that Harry would think in terms of 'reloading' is way fun! I love the ambiguity of whether or not there actually are saves or loads.

The first time he wakes, he is in a room. Heavy curtains hang over dusty windowsills and there are crumpled sheets on the bed and crumpled sheets on the floor. The world is quiet while his body screams. Every soft, fleshy, vulnerable part of him is on fire, writhing and roiling in unbearable agony. He wants to move, get away from the mattress that digs into his skin like fingers, like knives, like roots, but his body is frozen without his consent, time stretching endlessly around him as he fights an ocean of pain. And suddenly there are hands on him and worried grey eyes and he wants to scream but his throat is already scraped raw.

We love QPR Vash/Meryl/Wolfwood, and we love stories that drop you into something and you have no idea what's going on. Such a good and interesting fic that drops ideas of what has happened, but also you're not totally sure, and it really puts you into Vash's head for the fic.

Inspired by the fic above, a scene between Meryl and Nicholas (and Vash) as they try and figure out what their dynamic is now. Wonderfully domestic.

Time loop, time loop, time loop! Time loops where you're trying so despeartelyl to save someone! Time loops where you start realizing some sacrifices have to be made! Time loops that make you hate and love someone like you never have before!

Meryl kept thinking back to Tonis, small and still so young in his mothers arms. She kept thinking about the fact that if she held onto him a bit stronger, if she had more conviction, he might still have both of his arms. And about how if she had any less of it, Wolfwood might have not woken back up again in that bar. Surely, getting a bit scratched up was worth saving someone’s life. But that’s not how Wolfwood saw it. To him, she’d forever be just some defenseless little thing that stumbled around helplessly and had to be protected. And for all that he complained about Vash having a self-sacrificial streak, he'd rather bleed out on the floor than admit he had needed help. - Wolfwood almost dies, Meryl saves him and gets hurt in the process. They have a fight about it.

I love Mashwood, but the dynamic between Wolfwood and Meryl is often under represented. I especially love this fic's exploration of the fact that Meryl, of the trio, is the most human and the position that puts her in a lot of the time.

CHANGING NATURE (‘TIS THE SEASON) by ainosyn (@tristamp-gunpede)

“How could anyone kill you without killing a part of themselves?” and “I can’t help it, it’s my nature.”

An exploration of all the different ways the story of Trigun could have gone, or could have been told, and about what is inherent to someone's nature. I love this, such a great character study of Knives and Vash.

What do you say?" “Hot showers and everything?” Meryl squints at Vash sidelong, she the very picture of suspicion and he of innocence. “Cross my heart,” Vash vows, making a solemn X over his chest. ~~~ A detour turned nightmare, water from the rock, Three Dog Night, and unconventional gestures of trust.

MUST READ MUST READ MUST READ!!!! Best Trigun Fic I think I've ever read, with perfect characterization of Meryl, Vash, and Wolfwood that all feel distinct and accurate, a lot of fun interactions, and just a hint of the good good 'Vash isn't human' stuff I live for.

Psych

"I want eyes on Spencer ten minutes ago!" Shawn thinks that maybe another hostage situation is just what they need to bring the team together again.

Love when you find a fic that captures the vibes of the canon so well! The team-as-family in psych is so good and fun, it's what makes it all worthwhile, you know? The characters in Psych are really good, and I'll be honest I live for the times that Shawn manages to actually be selfless and care about others.

Hell yeah, EclipseWing, all my homies love EclipseWing! This one is so fun! It's nice to see a Shawn who doesn't get into crime solving but still needs to find something to preoccupy him becoming a theif instead, it's so in person I love it!

Mob Psycho 100

Come Morning Light by NotHereForIt

Reigen is standing in a world that exists, but doesn't, in front of a house that is Mob's, but not, with a man that's dead, but isn't. In which Reigen thinks he's dreaming, and he very much is not.

Dream walking time, hell yeah! In which Reigen helps Mob through is dreams. Poor Mob has PTSD, but at least he's not alone.

There wasn’t a rule, exactly, that said that Ritsu wasn’t allowed to spend time with his brother. It was just something that was understood, like how Ritsu understood he wasn't supposed to press his hands along the sharp edges of his mother’s kitchen knives. (or: an age swap where only Mob and Reigen's ages are changed. Shigeo asks his little brother if he wants to walk him home after school. Ritsu should say no. Ritsu does not say no.)

The ending of this one sticks with me, ugh it's so good. Swap au's are so interesting, and I love the way it's done here, especially with Mob and Reigen being swapped, but Ritsu still being the same age.

I'm something else when I see you. The world revolves around the suffering of Kageyama Shigeo. It fails to anticipate the determination of the Greatest Psychic Detective of the 21st Century.

In which Reigen is in Mogamiland and is as stubborn as a mule - even if he doesn't know what he's fighting against or for. A great moment of Reigen being able to comfort Mob - more or less. There are struggles that come with trying to accomplish that.

Undertale

Second Contact by Ononymous

To the participants, monumental days in history rarely feel very monumental when they wake up that morning. A young man at his summer job in the middle of nowhere was about to learn this the hard way.

I love this fic, of Asogre and Frisk meeting the first human outside of the Underground, told from outsider pov. It's a fun continuation of the story, and of how a poor service employee has to be the one to deal with the mess first.

What Little Monsters Are Made Of by Mangaluva

Nobody understands why you keep Flowey. You're not always sure why you do. But you found a way to save everybody else.

A story about love, and a story about believing in someone or something, and about how it's never too late. Post-Game, exploration of the relationship that builds between Flowey, Frisk, and the rest of the monsters over the years.

Kingdom Hearts

Scar Tissue - mimiplaysgames

Terra doesn’t remember certain things. He’s not in control. Even after everything they have been through, he still has the Guardian to contend with.

A little confusing to read sometimes, but super interesting look into after effects of having one's heart stuck in various places, and how it impact Terra without him even knowing it. At the end of the day, Terra is a guardian.

Umbra, Penumbra - end_alls

Roleswap where Vanitas is the one raised with care and compassion in the Land of Departure, and Ventus… is not

A fun and interesting role reversal. In general, the concept of 'too much light' is not explored enough in Kingdom hearts, so a fic that goes into how Ventus is left so incomplete without Vanitas is great.

Affecting Eternity - b-na_hime

One new Keyblade Master. Two new Keyblade wielders. Three thousand ways it could go horribly wrong…

Riku trying so hard to train Lea and Kairi when he's never been formally trained either. Great relationship building between them and how each of them feels about being a keyblade wielder.

It's been ten years since then. Time has passed, and wounds are slowly healing. Ven thought he'd moved on, that the memories no longer bother him. All it takes is a single muddled spell to prove him wrong.

Ven has some serious PTSD and it rears its ugly head. Also, Ven can kick ass when he believes his life depends on it. Great Ven characterization that fleshes out Ven a bit more than he usually is.

Final Fantasy VII

The Fifth Act by Sinnatious

Cloud has an accident with a Time materia, and finds himself in the middle of the Wastes at the start of the Wutai War. There are people to save… and for that, there are three people who need to die.

My favorite time-travel fix-it for FFVII I've found so far. Good characterization, fun interactions, and I love how much it grapples with the question of 'should Sephiroth die, when he hasn't done anything'.

A Feather's Edge by Boomchick

Rescue arrives for Sephiroth while he is still a child. It arrives in the form of a blank-faced blonde-haired hero who cannot look at him; Who tends his wounds, and speaks kindly, but whose eyes are filled with hate and fear. If only Sephiroth knew the rules of this world outside the labs, maybe he could figure out how to stop making Cloud so angry...

An interesting look into, even if Sephiroth was saved, how messed up he is since childhood and how that impacts how he views people, sitautions, and relationships with other people. Kinda wish it was a little longer, but also I think it ends where it needs to end, if that makes sense. Really love Cloud trying to grapple with being a good adult for a child while battling his PTSD over said child.

In the Woods, Somewhere - DoveFanworks

On an ordinary day, two against one would hardly feel fair. But today was not an ordinary day, and Gods damn if this man wasn’t proving to be worth every bit of their combined effort. It was ludicrous. Unheard of. Before today, he would have thought it impossible. But somehow, someway, this man, this stranger who had come from out of nowhere, was fighting off two of the most powerful fighters in the world. At the same time.

Unresolved Time Travel au where Cloud takes on the three Firsts and kicks ass! I love how thought out the fight scenes are, taking into account the abilites of everyone involved and what they're capable of. Wonderfully orchestrated, wonderful to read.

Rebound - emrald_writes

Genesis knows the moment that they step into the little town that whatever it is plaguing them it isn’t a curse.

I Love fics that have surprisingly in depth worlds that makes you feel like you're looking into a world so much bigger and more thought out than you expected. Such an interesting magic system and a fun mystery to boot. I will say, the ending feels a little strange, but the rest most than makes up for it.

As They Bask in the Material World - Traxits

Every year, Reeve tours the outer reactors. This year, Veld is unable to escort him, so Tseng gets the job. It's just his luck that the car breaks down, and perhaps the best idea was not to spend the night in Cosmo Canyon…

Hi welcome to the beginning of the 'brownie falls in love with reeve' section of this. Anyway, great and interesting relationship between Reeve and Tseng, and EXTREMELY cool take on how young Reeve would react to Cosmo Canyon.

Before She Hangs Her Head to Cry - Traxits

Reeve had been reasonably certain that no one was in his office. It seemed like a logical assumption to make, given that he was not there and that no one short of the President had a key. One day, he would learn to stop assuming anything when he counted the Turks among his friends.

Not enough people talk about Reeve and kidnapping Marlene! Love the backstory that is hinted at for Reno here, getting to see Reeve's thoughts and such, and how Marlene's upbringing shows up throughout her actions. The characterization is just, *mwah*, beautiful.

Little Birds by katineto

Marlene's Papa is gone, and she is scared—or, the kidnapping, from Marlene's perspective.

Reeve is terrible with children. I love seeing Marlene's POV in the whole mess, trying to make sense of what is going on and feeling so scared.

Through Another's Eyes by CorsairOriginal

Elmyra Gainsborough had only wanted to live a life in peace, but war keeps coming to her door. She had only wanted her arrangement with Marlene Wallace to be temporary, but now that she's a part of Elmyra's life she has to face the consequences of that decision. Director Reeve Tuesti didn't choose to become a spy, but orders from President Rufus Shinra are not to be refused. He didn't choose to admire a group of renegades, but now that they're a part of his life he can't walk away so easily. ~ "Through Another's Eyes" is an in-depth view of the major notes of Reeve's story in Final Fantasy VII, starting from Marlene's abduction by Shinra to the end of the original game--rewriting some concepts and adding elements from the Compilation of FF7, including Before Crisis and FFVII Remake.

THE PINNACLE OF REEVE FICS. So so so good! Great relationship of Reeve with everybody, and how he deals with the events of FFVII. The moment at the end when he finally meets everyone? FUCK YEAH, that's what it's all about baby! Fic that got me hooked on the inspire!Reeve characterization.

I'm Fine - WinterEvenings

“Cloud!” His eyes snap open, but it doesn’t do much good. All he can see is darkness anyway. They were trapped. It was his fault. It was all his fault.

Cloud is so fucked up as far as priorities and his own health is concerned. it's terrible and wonderful at the same time. Gotta love a good dose of whump.

Ahsoka Episode 4 Spoilers/Thoughts

This was...a big one, to say the least.

Also note to self do NOT open tumblr while in the middle of watching an episode or you will be spoiled for that epic ending *sobs* oh well...

2/2 Star Wars characters repairing ship wiring on their back...v nice

Sabine, you realize none of you would be in this position if you hadn't squirreled away with the map in your tower...jus sayin...

"Can I count on you?" Yeah I'm gonna say that's a no...

Sabine loading her blasters is super cool but also giving me flashbacks to trying to reload staple gun or nail gun cartridges and hoping you don't launch them into your face in the process

Natasha plays Sabine's nervous energy very well and Rosario is showing Ahsoka's own unease, reserve, but also very caring concern, extremely well. I really wish we could see the history between these two--animated in between series anyone??

I wonder why Dave doesn't bring up the fact that Ahsoka owes Ezra her life. It's only focused on what Ezra means to Sabine, but he means a lot to Ahsoka too.

Huyang's lil hands on hips...you can tell he's a full practical build here.

Speaking of...I REALLY want to know if the practical robot was used for this fight scene, or if they switched to someone in a costume/CGI. It seems like the HK droids are people/CGI but I could be wrong about that. Either way, go Huyang go!

It's always a treat to see Mandos and Jedi fighting styles together. And Sabine's Wonder Woman vambrace block was great.

Ahsoka's white lightsabers are so stunning in live action.

Jacen is so spunky and I'm so glad Dave is having him be a full part of the series.

"Faith? I lost that a long time ago" Baylon's backstory pleaseeeee. Who was his master. How far did he get in training. Was he knighted? Did he have a padawan pre-order 66? Where was he during the war? Where was he during Order 66? When did he walk away, and what did he walk away to? What are his goals now? How did he find Shin/why did he want to train her? We desperately need a comic or a book here Lucasfilm

The graphics for the countdown clock (and the droids manning them) are super cool

Ugh the parallels to Obi-Wan and Maul are impeccable.

So I totally knew Marrok would be a nobody/throwaway character but a nightsister necromancer ghost??? Did not see that coming at all. Eerie

Shin seems honestly disturbed by seeing Marrok fall. I wonder if the body that was used was someone she knew or had a connection to.

The lightsaber usage in this show is so interesting and such a unique blend of samurai techniques, OT trilogy techniques, and more realistic stabbing and swiping and slicing motions. I love the choreography and cinematography of Shin and Sabine going at it as well as how the trees and landscape are used in their fight.

Looks like Shin got her dramatics from her master. Sitting there with his hood up for effect lol

Definitely getting flashbacks to Ahsoka's sass in her fight with Maul in TCW.

Baylon's textured armor is so incredible. I want to see him leading a 13th century cavalcade

Can he read people's minds? Or does he do in depth research like Thrawn does so he knows the weak points of his opponents?

“One must destroy in order to create.” No. You are incorrect sir. One must die. One must morph, must change, in order to create. But that is different than destroying.

Again with the one saber. It's such an odd choice for Ahsoka to do that, and it honestly feels like an excuse for Baylon to be able to overpower her later. I don't quite like it.

It is very interesting how Baylon views Ahsoka, and tells her that her legacy is death and broken promises. What exactly does he think her legacy is? Because that is Anakin's legacy, not hers (at least through Rebels). What has happened since then?

He looks so sad, honestly.

There's way too much leaving oneself open to attack in this episode.

The fight scene definitely looks slowed down a little, and it's a little clunky, but man Baylon is brutal with his saber. Again why is Ahsoka not using both of hers to combat is strength??

Either there's a trailer shot that never made it into this fight, or Baylon and Ahsoka fight again. I'm missing where she kicks back against one of those tall rocks and flips over. That was such a cool shot.

I honestly can't believe Shin was able to block the whistling birds lol. That would be an intense hit to the face. Also I love how much of the shots and sparks in these shows are practical. It makes it feel so much more real.

The map burning Ahsoka is wild. It makes sense but very unfortunate.

Hot damn Ahsoka! She definitely was tapping into some anger there. In real life that hit to the back of the head should have seriously injured Shin. Filoni is really being gritty and brutal with the fights in this show, they're raw and dirty in ways that the trilogies were not.

Aaaaaand while I know Ahsoka isn't dead yet (there's no way Filoni would kill off the title character halfway through a first season) holy cow that was heartwrenching

Baylon is a master manipulator. He makes Maul look like a babbling teenager. And yet he doesn't seem to derive any twisted pleasure from it. He just is doing what he thinks he needs to do.

I'm sorry Ahsoka had WHAT to do with Sabine's family dying???? In the Purge??? Ugh geez that's awful.

Gah DAMN it Sabine!! C'mon girl!! Bad decision, bad decision!

WHAT IS THIS GREATER GOOD BAYLON

I would have loved to see Obi-Wan face off against Baylon. The quiet patience and calm strength...too much for one room

He is just not done digging at Ahsoka is he. Again, master manipulator, but why?

Huyang's little magnifying glass!

Dave definitely nailed the lighting in this show. Even if the volume is still apparent in some shots, the lighting is finally dialed in and soft and realistic and atmospheric. That shot of Baylon after decimating the map is epic.

Yeahhh, Hera, ya'll might want to skedaddle right quick before you get....oh, too late....

As much as I love Mastodon, the one thing that makes me wish weren't a thing about it is that an instance (server) can go down or straight-up disappear with no warning.

I have an account on witches.live, and it's been down for a couple of weeks now. I say "down" and not "gone" because if I try to access it on Chrome, I get the custom-made by-the-admin page that says it's down and that she is working on it. That custom error page has to come from SOMEWHERE. If the server was "gone" then I wouldn't get the custom error page.

Unfortunately, I don't get it on Firefox (not on my desktop nor on my mobile app) and the Mastodon app simply just doesn't reload/load at all. So I'm HOPING she is doing a heavy-duty update.

I'm gonna guess there could be some life stuff happening too, because this server, as far as I know, is ran by ONE PERSON and that's why I haven't given up hope.

However, I'm still looking up alternative instances as a backup.

I wanna steer clear of popular activist/leftist ones because some (like kolektiva) have been targets for doxxing and shit from what I've heard. I know pagan.plus is a thing, but it's also quite popular and with the religious right wanting to go after everyone not them, I'd rather hang back on a smaller or lesser known instance.

I really wanna join the solarpunk server sunbeam.city but registration is closed. I dunno no if it's lack of server space or to avoid a wave of bots or what. The one candidate I have where registration isn't closed is a gardening one. I have it bookmarked on my desktop.

I'm gonna give witches.live until maybe June before I create a backup account on that gardening server. (I'll still continuously check back with witches.live though.)

I think this is honestly the ONE FLAW I don't like about Mastodon, though. And I'd rather have several backup accounts than join a bigger server that's likely to be a target.

Also there's a server called anarchism.space or something that I have bookmarked on my desktop and I SWEAR I may have had an account there and forgot that I joined. If thats true, I don't know what email I used. Their registration is closed, too.

Anyway, if anyone knows what's going on with witches.live, lemme know!

First off, I'm ashamed to admit I was too startled when I got the flirt option to actually click it, lol! I kicked myself immediately because I really wanted to know what they'd both say! And then, d'oh, of course, I remembered that Youtube exists and went looking for this!

I'm actually surprised at his response, I thought he'd laugh his head off at Sara or something but daaaaaang, Drack, what was that octave drop when he said "property damage?" 👀🤔😂

I love Drack, I just didn't expect to get the option to, you know, loooooove Drack, lol! 😂

I'm staying strong for Jaal, though, and YAY, we finally got a hug and he invited me to meet his mother, so PROGRESS. It's almost romancing time!

Jaal's ready to get his flirt on, yep. *nodnods* 😂

I'm nearly 90 hours in now and have done almost all of the side-quests so far. The hardest ones are the ones without any waypoints or indicators to let you know where to find a series of data pads or whatever. But I've decided to try to get all of them since I'm this close! Here's the benefit of doing lots of side-quests:

All my current worlds hit 100% pretty quickly, yay! My plan has been to established forward stations as soon as I move into a new area (since the weather or conditions are inevitably trying to kill you, so having a forward station to retreat to is very helpful) and to get the Remnant vaults working as soon as I can. *points to the part where the planet is inevitably trying to kill you* Then I work on the missions, tasks and quests without worrying that I'm going to freeze, burn or be fried by radiation. 😱😎👍

I've made good time on things, I think. Mainly because of my "prioritizing forward stations and vaults" strategy and just that I've gotten better at driving the NOMAD (I only had Cora scream, "RYDER, LOOK OUT!" one time -- and, to be fair, I was accidentally driving us off a cliff to our deaths on the asteroid with low gravity but hey, it was just ONE TIME *proud* 🤣😎👍). I've found a good load-out for my gear that suits my style as well: a Kett nightstick-looking thing for my melee weapon and a Widow sniper rifle and Hesh shotgun to give me power at both distance and up-close.

Vetra is my ride-or-die, I always bring her no matter what the mission, and Drack is excellent when you need a heavy hitter (don't fight one of those frigging ginormous Architects without your one-Krogan army!). I've got everybody as upgraded as possible so Cora is great at reviving everybody's shields, which has proved really helpful. And then I bring Jaal if I don't need heavy hitting or shield regenerating because, honestly, I think he gets a bit of cabin fever being left on the Tempest too long, lol! I love how he complains that he hates Kadara but if you keep finding him there and talking to him, Sara eventually will ask why he doesn't just stay on the ship and he pauses before saying that he's afraid he'll miss out on something. I love that he first appears to be this hulking alien warrior dude and then you start realizing he's actually very insecure about a lot of things. It's refreshing, honestly. 😍

Of course, now that I see Drack as a love interest option, I may have to change my playthrough plan...

*gigglesnort* Okay, so I know that he's not a romance option, but I do think it's way too much fun to get the option to flirt with him!

I really embarrassed myself in that barfight, BTW. I'd let Sara egg that dude on but I wasn't expecting a DODGE prompt to pop up and didn't have my hand on the controller so Sara got totally sucker punched. 😱 I reloaded a save point and redid that section because I couldn't let Drack down like that. You could tell he was so disappointed in me! 😐😉

Maybe they'll put some form of redemption in the game for pen but honestly I have little hope. Mostly because what I've seen how they handled portia. if they loose interest they tend to just drop it. portia was basically unfinished imho because they found something shinier to work on (sandrock) and I fear they'll do the same with pen and other parts of the game.

I don't mind all that much if pen stays a villain, but they also peppered in some redeeming things in there and it's be just bad writing if they just decide, nope, he's pure evil and you the player are stupid for even considering him. if they are going to keep him a villain at least write it decently.

I pretty much agree with all of this. The stuff about Portia in particular was something I read about on Reddit after I bought Sandrock. Apparently Pathea has a track record of picking up projects and bringing them to some level of completion, only to drop them, leaving the game either buggy or unfinished. I didn't experience many bugs in Portia, but there are areas in the game that feel cobbled together. And overall, the game feels really unpolished.

I'd love for Pathea to surprise me with a Pen redemption arc, or simply a complete experience with resolving/ending the romance. Because I do not feel like I've had any closure with what's currently in the game. I doubt this will happen, bc in order for it >to< happen people need to be complaining about it A LOT. And tbh I don't think his romance is popular enough for people to go out of their way and do that. They also probably have other pressing matters like making sure the game is optimized enough for it to load quickly without any messed up character meshes. The latter of which has been an ongoing issue for me and is also responsible for not being able to shoot down the balloon treasure chests (I used to be able to fix it by reloading my game but it hasn't worked recently :/).

But idk even if they don't add anything in, there's always fanworks to make the pain go away lol.

Tumblr staff, whoever is in charge of app development. It would be great if you didn't assume we all have the latest brand of Samsung or iPhone XYZ and that everyone's phones can just handle some 1020p video ad & like 6 gifs of the Live stuff upon booting the app. My app kept freezing & crashing & I had to reload it like 10 times until the ad apparently changed to something lighter my phone could actually load so the app was usable.

Great user experience, honestly. Love that for me.

Morg! I want to download mods for bg3 but I’m worried it will break my game when new updates and patches come. Have you had any trouble with mods?

I have, but nothing that can't be fixed! I rely on mods because the tiefling race is really rough in the base game and I can't play without them. I'm not an expert (on bg3 anyway) but honestly, it's pretty easy. I use Baldur's Gate 3 manager as opposed to Vortex, because I have a multi-year hate campaign going on with Vortex.

My best advice is read the description (seriously, very important. I know some people drone on like I do but it's very important) and read the posts. The description will fix any issues that you have with the mod inherently, and the posts will tell you any issues with the mod itself.

For example, if you want to use a really cool mod but you're worried that you'll have/do have an issue, read the posts. A lot of people will report their issues here, and people will resolve it one way or another, whether it means helping them actually work through it or just saying 'That doesn't come from this mod.'

Be careful with manual mods for sure, but most of the mods for BG3 are regular installs where you use the manager and then place them in the folder, reload the BG3 manager, and then activate! If you don't like them, deactivate!

One of the downsides of mods is having to keep up to date with patches! I use the UI overhaul for a lot of my mods, so my magic mirror wouldn't work when I went to use it. Thankfully, a lot of mod authors are very good on keeping up at it, and it's easy to update!

BACK UP YOUR GAMES AND PROGRESS if you're worried! You can even make different load orders and profiles on BG3 manager!

You do have to keep up with mods on updates and patches, especially if they are integral to the game (UI, some spells, etc) but not all of the time. I can update Basket (the armor and spell) mod whenever I please and it really doesn't do much, but that's not the case for everything! Ultimately, READ the warnings and heed what the mod author tells you! It has improved my experience exponentially, but I know that's not the case for everyone!

If you are worried, back up beforehand, and then add a mod. If you don't like it, leave! You can add mods halfway through a game sometimes, but be wary of removing them! Basically, just use common sense and you're okay! I would keep a starter character just in case that you can test things on!

I adore mods because they help me have the experience I really want and customize my character the way I envision. They aren't for everyone and honestly, the vanilla experience is incredible also! But if you see a mod you love, I think it's worth venturing out into! My sister is learning how to make faces and her own mods too! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

And again, since I love these things, I could not resist. Have some snippets from The Brewing War.

Heart

She found them. Two Nidtrins up the street. Both women wore blouses cropped to show their navels and a generous amount of chest with tight pants to emphasize the curves of their legs.

Riela swallowed and told herself it was mid-morning and there probably wouldn’t be an altercation of any sorts. Her heart pounded all the same.

She looked for a means to avoid the pair. Unfortunately, there weren’t any places to turn and not look out of place. The little alleys in between the shops weren’t places two shoppers would go under normal circumstances. The next road was beyond the Nidtrins.

As it was, with Riela and Janna stopped as they were, they’d draw attention sooner or later.

“Come on,” Riela whispered. “Let’s see if we can get past them without them saying anything to us.”

Pulse

Janna’s body went rigid, then her eyes flew open. Mica grinned.

“Breathing, good,” she reported. “Pulse, a little higher than normal. You’ll wanna stay away from caffeine for the next day. Unless of course you get knocked unconscious again. But, most importantly, how do you feel?”

“What…?” Janna gasped.

“Oh, gave you a stimulant to wake you up,” Mica shrugged. “Nothing too fancy like theramancy or anything. You should drink some water.”

“Here,” Adrian said, grabbing a glass off a table. Janna took it and sipped.

“You keep those things on hand?” Adler asked.

“Well, duh!” Mica replied. “The pirates would get themselves injured all the time. And lemme tell you! If we’re in a boarding party and one of them falls unconscious, we gotta make sure everyone stays awake enough to keep their butts on the ship. Honestly, I’ve seen loads of head injuries: boarding parties, random fights, times they didn’t listen to me in the engine room!”

Hair

On her way to the kitchen, Riela noticed a pair of Nidtrins strut into the Tom. The cleric’s black hair cascaded down her back. She had a huge ruby at her throat and was wearing the Nidtrin-usual cropped blouse. Her pointed ears had black tattoos spiraling up them, looking like earrings. Her bodyguard had stick-straight blonde hair and bandages around one arm. Riela wondered if they were covering wounds or tattoos.

They sat at one of Sean’s tables and Riela left them alone.

“Nidtrins,” Riela whispered to Nathaniel as she picked up orders.

He nodded curtly.

Gasp

“The Berthan Army will be here soon,” Captain Cherrybrick added as the car continued to rock and shudder. “This vehicle is spelled and well-armored. We can wait it out.”

The words hardly left Captain Cherrybrick’s mouth when the crowd suddenly parted and a crazed man stepped forward-flanked by a pale woman in a crop-top on his left and a large man with a belt-fed machine gun on his right. The woman pointed at the car and the crazed man drew power into his hands and flung a ball of white, crackling lightning at the car. The searing spell struck the car and the interplay of energies made the hairs on Rinnie’s arms stand up. The air smelled of ozone. With a painfully loud pop, the protective spells on the car’s armor gave way and broke.

Rinnie gasped. Actual fear rose in her chest. Ilani didn’t move.

The man with the machine gun leveled his weapon and opened up with a chattering, sustained burst, killing many of the protestors who had been shaking the car. The windshield held for a moment under the impacts and then broke, filling the cab with flying glass and the driver’s blood. The machine-gunner stopped firing; his barrel glowed red-hot.

“Shendrich!” Cherrybrick roared. “We need to move before he reloads or that fucking mage recovers enough for another spell!”

Rinnie felt herself get dragged out of the car.

Sigh

“Fuck,” he breathed. Using his other hand, he peeled the fingers back one-by-one, having no idea what to do with the giant ring on his finger, and looked at the blue translucent fluid in the thick vial. It was all there.

What was it? He couldn’t remember. Still, he let out a sigh of relief without knowing why and set the vial in his lap. He examined it while massaging his hand.

“What is this?” he asked.

“We don’t know, Sir,” Adler replied. “You specifically were sent here to get it. So it must be important.”

Newfound Love for the .44

While not a new caliber for me necessarily, I’ve somewhat re-discovered it in a sense. While growing up the only firearm that I can ever recall shooting that was chambered in a .44 caliber was my Dad’s old Marlin 1894 chambered in .44 Magnum and .44 Special. In honestly, I don’t recall ever shooting .44 Special through it, but absolutely remember shooting .44 Magnum through it. Even though it’s a rifle shooting a pistol caliber, the .44 Magnum in a lightweight and handy Marlin 1894 saddle ring carbine packs quite a punch especially for a small person. It’s a great short range hunting round though, especially out of a rifle with velocities running in the high teens.

Fast forward to 2017 the year my Dad passed away and my wife inherited that old 1894 Marlin rifle. She had taken a liking to it and my Dad had given it to her to keep and shoot and shortly after that conversation he was no longer with us. We all unanimously decided that it was hers to keep. I’ve shot that rifle a handful of times since then. It’s not been without it’s problems like the occasional jam, the Marlin jam as it’s known in which a round will jam up on the loading elevator. Last year, 2023 I made the decision to start looking into other firearms chambered in .44 Magnum & .44 Special. Since I already had a lever rifle, I wanted a revolver and ended up picking up a Smith Model 629. Not long after that purchase I ended up with a Henry All-Weather in .44 Magnum from Brownells and just at the end of the year another Model 629 but this time a short barrel Performance Center version. Right about the time I picked up the Henry in 44, I decided that I would have to get into reloading of both .44 Magnum and .44 Special in order to feed these guys a steady diet. Picked up 225gr FTX projectiles and Lee dies from Brownells along with some large pistol primers. Also picked up some cast 240gr as well as both Starline .44 magnum brass and .44 Special brass. For powder I’ve been running H110 for my .44 Magnum loads and Titegroup for my .44 Special loads. On top of a new found passion for .44 I’ve also gotten back into reloading more often. There are so many different loads for both the .44 Magnum and .44 Special…too many to try them all, but something for everybody and every application. I’m still looking into more loading opportunities.

The .44 Magnum is a ton of fun to shoot in both the 6.5” 629 and Henry or Marlin rifles, but no fun through the short 629…it’s a handful! .44 Special on the other hand is pleasant to shoot through any of them and especially through the Henry while running suppressed… it’s so soft to shoot and super quiet since those rounds are moving well below 1000fps. I’m already looking forward to my next .44 chambered firearm. I’d love to add maybe a Model 69 or possibly another levergun. If you’ve not yet dabbled with the .44 caliber you owe it to atleast give it a shot.

BG3 playthrough - Baldur’s Gate is ENORMOUS

I didn’t think I could be more overwhelmed but somehow this game just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Which is fine, but… my pathetic little mac can’t deal with it. The deeper I get into the city, the worse the gameplay gets, and it’s so bad now, so bad. I wish there was an even more basic barebones graphics level below low.

Spoilers:

The dark urge flavour in the tabernacle was neat. My character left a big donation for the seldarine goddess not out of religious devotion but as a spiteful fuck-you to daddy. I like that Bhaal answers back. Very fun. And Astarion continues in his theme of being grumpy about anything religious. I don’t know, buddy. After he mentioned being thankful that it was my plot that freed him, I can’t help but look at the whole coincidence of it all and wonder if that was the answer to his prayers, even though it took a long time to play out.

I got to Sorcerous Sundries. The thing that upset me the most about Rolan wasn’t his face, it wasn’t the shitty situation he described, no, somehow the thing that upset me the most was that he wasn’t even bothering to be arrogant and rude anymore. It was that little detail that made me feel the worst and made me understand how bad things were. Poor buddy. It’s ok, Aylin broke Lorroakan over her fucking knee. God I love her.

What an irritating fight though. I accidentally brought all squishy spellcasters with me when maybe a good fighter would have been more efficient. (sigh, Lae’zel, I will find you soon, I promise) My tav freshly leveled up to 11 and I finally, FINALLY got OTTO’S IRRESISTABLE DANCE. Ooooooh I’ve been waiting forever for that. I cast it on Lorroakan right at the start and it was great, kept him quiet the entire fight while we chipped away at all his goddamned elementals until we were ready to kick his ass. Oh my god oh my GOD was it ever funny watching him boogie the whole time in the corner, getting angry every turn and threatening us as he did his little shuffle. I laughed and laughed and laughed. BEST SPELL EVER. Can’t wait to use it on Gortash and Orin. Rolan ended up getting the final killing hit in, which made me pleased. I’ve had Shovel summoned and following Astarion ever since I read the scroll mid-act-1, and sadly she got zapped in the fight and I didn’t notice until a few hours later. I could reload and redo the fight to keep her alive, but myeh I dunno, maybe it’s her time. Gale still knows how to summon her if we want her back.

I don’t have patch 6 yet - mac users always have to wait longer - so I don’t get to see the new fight cinematics yet. I assume that once the patch comes out, I’ll be able to load old save slots up and watch it then?...

After that, I was just dicking around and found the whole lower level of the tower and all the stuff that goes with that totally by accident.

I did the whole newspaper quest thingie, and managed to do it mostly by just sneaking really good, only ended up using one single invisibility potion… but I don’t know if my game is bugged or what, I was a bit disappointed, the next morning the quest had succeeded and NPCs talk to me like I’m a celebrity now, but the newspaper wasn’t about me. If I succeed or if I fail, the paper is always just random unrelated headlines. I was wanting a funny and relevant story! :( Ah well. Sneaking through there around the guards was a pain in the ass and a half but I’m low on invisibility potions :( Until I get some more I need to be careful.

The only thing more fun than exploring and finding all the neat little details is doublechecking with my daughter who is also playing, and seeing how much she has MISSED because she just speeds through with no patience for the exploring. Lmao. She’s currently stuck at Shadowheart’s big fight in the House of Grief. I popped down there myself to take a look and shee-it, that is definitely a nasty stupid fight.

Dang there’s so much stuff here in the city though. I honestly can’t even remember all of what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m kind of in the mood to hurry up and get to the Cazador fight, but there’s so much city to explore between here and there. And my computer lags and lags and lags.

OK my tingle thoughts before i end up forgetting them

let me get the negatives out of the way first..... firstly, the racism: terrible. yamatami tribe is super uncomfy and everything abt samba the king's daughter makes me want to strangle whoever at vanpool that had thought of this. deku forest being a temperate forest yet having a rando tarzan-esque hero is like 🆗. also the random durians in mt desma despite durian not being a mountain fruit at all.. like yeah ok this isnt the only fruit to grow in a random place, but the association of durian = exotic, which by proxy equates seasia = exotic, is.... 😑 also this isnt racism but i was disappointed that pinkle ended up having a thing for tingle. i was put off by the whole "you saved me from a terrible situation so i must reward you" bla bla bla deal. theres more layers to this that im honestly not to bothered to tackle like how its a subversion of expectations with how tingle is portrayed as a 'ugly character', but the way this game wrote its female characters just felt stereotypical af and its like eh.... and like it sounds worse in balloon trip of love which i have absolutely 0 plans to play.

and secondly THE GAMEPLAY JANK..... like the rupee system is Very... yeah i played without a guide for like the first dungeon before i realized it was unsustainable. bc it really is. practically no leeway for players who may ask for too much rupees, and asking for too little will end up stifling players' progression. and in both situations theyre gonna have to go and grind for rupees which is REALLY... NOT AT ALL fun to do. there is nothing fun about loading and reloading a map area to kill some enemies again and again in order to sell their drops. or digging an area over and over again. this doesnt just extend to rupees but to getting ingredients as well; like i dont understand why minced meat is so hard to come by. like after the first continent, i barely got any minced meat. and minced meat is a main ingredient for the health potion so its like.... fuck me i guess. had to farm minced meat at cape treasure until i was rich enough that it wasnt too much of a loss to just revive my bodyguards with rupees.

other gameplay janks are the fact that there isnt a way to view the zoomed in map in its entirety, the walking speed is sooooo slowww, and you can fucking lose access to fast travel to the most recent area if you neglect the tower. also there are a few puzzles and one boss fight that requires pushing shit around; and if you have a bodyguard they will 100% makes things even more difficult for you, sometimes to point where they'll push the item to a corner and you have to leave and reload the entire area to redo it. terrible developer oversight. also fast travel and saving is so tedious 😑

and the last main 'complaint' (sort of)... this game made me realize that ive been taking satisfying endings and credits for granted. bc ive been playing so many amazing games in these recent years, ive come to expect that the finale and its accompanying credits of any game would be a satisfying wrap-up of everything ive achieved. but trr had made me realize that No!!! thats not always a given. because i definitely didnt get that in this game. and that was so disappointing to me, because this game had so many diverse and quirky and unique characters and settings, but there was no final acknowledgement or one last wave goodbye for any of them. what a shame.

also the ending itself was uh.... not very satisfying either. both the good ending and the standard ending. i think i like the standard ending more honestly. it was nicer to see the children lament the adult's greed, than it was to see the unrealistic ideal of rupeeland actually be achieved (yes im completely aware how silly this sounds irt a tingle game IDC). neither ending was a super deep commentary on money and i wasnt expecting it to be a Perfect Socialist Manifesto, but the ending was essentially just "money can be good and money can be bad. ok bye" and it was like.... ??? ok bye

OK NOW THE GOOD PARTS: i love the music and i think the art direction of this game was soooo so fun. it was so quirky and zany and it reminds me a lot of mother 3! its like mother 3 if it wasnt an rpg, didnt have emotional moments, and hated you even more than mother 3 hated you. thats what this tingle game was like.

despite the gameplay jank, i think there were many good parts abt its gameplay. like despite how badly designed the rupee system is, i think it made for a very interesting setting and really emphasized how valued rupees are to the characters of this world. i really wish it was designed a bit better bc i really didnt hate the idea of this mechanic. and the music and character portrait screen when youre made to ask/pay for rupees is so creative and good too!

i think the mapping system was super fun as well. annoying that you couldnt view the full zoomed in map, and that sometimes the circling feature just... wouldnt work.. but paying attention to the overworld while simultaneously paying attention to the map, and being paid handsomely for spotting the differences made exploration all the more rewarding. and i loved the bodyguard system! i think the 'combat' in this game was very fun actually. i loved the music of the bodyguard's combat. the bodyguard salons were such a fun tidbit of world-building, and it was nice to have a place where i could actually spend money and get something worthawhile in return, compared to the rest of the game where you need to pay people just for the basic decency of like, being able to talk to them (which i dont mind thats how this world works, but again it was nice to SPEND MONEY ON SMTH USEFUL). see, i liked a lot of this game's mechanics, its just that they werent ironed out enough and had enough jank to really piss you off 😮‍💨

the dungeons (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE WRETCHED INSECT CAVERN FUCK THAT PLACE FOREVER) were good too! nothing to write home about but like they were fine. but oh man the boss fights.... THEY WERE ALL AWESOME!!! sorry minish cap and albw but i actually enjoyed the boss fights in this game a lot more than any top-down zelda ones LOL. each one was so different and creative and unlike zelda, didnt just rely on Sole Item Gimmick for you to defeat them. and they were actually challenging!! but not too challenging to feel unfair. i think the lack of a standard combat system allowed for boss fights as interesting as these.

what else... i think it was really fun to see the foreshadowing of uncle rupee throughout the game. i think pinkle's ominous dialogue of being trapped in a room all day was very neat. i liked the lyphos lore too. OH and the zelda references throughout the game was amazing. like aba and her father being a sort of emotional reunion echoing the hero of time's origins.. only for them to beat each other's asses a second later was great. the saria theme in the deku forest was awesome too.

overall it was a game that i wish i could like more. like i really really wish i could like this game more! cuz the parts that i liked i really liked. also i only played like 30 minutes of phantom hourglass but this game was way better than that regarding its control scheme (fuck nintendo for ph and st control scheme forever btw). unfortunately trr has too many weird things and gameplay jank that i cant like it as much as id like. sad!

10) In your xxx fic, why did you decide to end it like that? Did you have an alternative ending in mind?

Oooh, loaded question! For Alkali, I chose to follow the episode Noctis ending bc I always wanted them to have a happy ending and, honestly, I just thought the book/planned ending was really good. I changed a few things to fit the focus of the story better, but overall it's the episode Noctis ending. As for the changes, you know that one scene in the last episode of H2O Season 1 where Rikki steps into the ocean? Yeah. It's a little like that.

For alt. endings, I'm not the biggest fan of the verse 2 ending from episode Ignis, but [BUT] with a couple big changes I thought it made for a fun detour with the same episode Noctis ending. It actually ended up becoming the 'main' timeline for this fic because I was having so much fun with it. I fit in the events of Episode Prompto, plus Ravus and Aranea team up with the chocobros to navigate through Zegnaurbfjflhs Keep and shut down the wall breaker wave machine. So, Ignis still puts on the ring and loses his sight and Prompto still takes down worm Verstael, it all just happens a little out of order and in new fun and exciting locations. [Verstael, to Ardyn: would you still love me if I was a worm?]

So the other timeline I had was Leviathan taking her payment early during the events of Episode Ignis, leaving Iggy with no memories of Noct to keep him from acting irrationally next time. Yesssss, I would love to!!! I'm having such a hard time deciding which fic to choose because I love everything, but you know what? Surprise attack!!! Here's an excerpt from chapter 10 of Masked, my genrex secret identity fic.

"... I wasn't with Noah for half of the classes I went to, but I aced a pop quiz the trigonometry teacher gave us!"

Holiday's heart ached. This was the sort of stuff he should be talking about on a daily basis, not EVOs or training or which painkillers worked best before his nanites neutralized them. He reminded her so much of Beverly in that moment, excitedly going on about her day at school and the things she'd learned to her big sister in college. She wanted to do nothing more than hug him and tell him everything was going to be okay, that the adults were going to handle it all from now on and he didn't need to worry.

But Providence wasn't so kind.

Thankfully, Holiday was, and she was fiercely stubborn to boot. The one thing she wanted to do in that exact moment was protect that innocent smile on Rex's face, and she was going to do her damndest to try.
