Ethan: Tchaikovsky - Marche Slave

Slow start, Ethan is unknowingly ensnared in a trap. As he realizes the danger Rose (and himself) are in the song becomes tragic and determined. Fastpaced strings, frantic beats —like prey escaping from predator— keeps escalating into something more and more insurmountable. A hopeful jingle is heard as Ethan finds out he can still save his daughter. A heroic theme plays as he overcomes the horrors despite it all (a sense of control over the situation is marked by highpitched anxious flutes superimposed by a deep stable horn). Mia: Claude Debussy - Clair De Lune

Sadly the real Mia doesn’t appear much. In the Winters home, Ethan writes that Mia doesn’t want to talk about what they went through in Louisiana, which leaves him with a lot of questions unanswered. In the flashback where she desperately tries reaching out saying ‘𝘺𝘰𝘶 matter’, she still can’t help keeping secrets- maybe out of fear that Ethan wouldn’t let it go (being extremely persistent) and they’d never return to normal. The song is heartbreaking and sad as she struggles coming to terms with the guilt and grief over what she’s done and what the one she loves went through because of it. On a last somber note, her child, who takes after her father both in looks and unresolved powers, is all she has left.

Rose: Saint-Saëns - Le Cygne

A little girl whos only ever known unconditional, all encompassing love. Even before her birth, it was known that her life would be full of uncertainty. Though stolen away for possessing powers she’s not even aware of yet, she continues to live and provide a beacon of hope for her family.

Chris: Richard Wagner - Ride of the Valkyries

Comes in the dead of night and rains hell on the Winters home. In his eyes, he’s doing the right thing, but has made himself the villain to the one he was trying to protect (victorious trumpets superimposed by high fearful strings). The transport gets intercepted by Miranda and the music falls. Once Chris finally explains himself to Ethan they’re allowed a brief bit of victory (steadier horn) as their combined efforts take down Miranda’s last line of defense (Heisenberg). In the end, Chris has to live with the victory of taking down the megamycete, the guilt and grief over Ethan’s death/sacrifice, and the troubling news from BSAA. A tainted victory.

Alcina: Tchaikovsky - Swan Lake

Appears first as a noble elegant socialite. She’s at the height of her power, owns a castle and three daughters and believes herself to be Miranda’s favorite. It’s business as usual, calm serene music. Suddenly an outsider has made his way into her home, killing her daughters one by one. She reaches out to Miranda, who only cares about the stupid ceremony, and realizes everything she knew was a lie. Anger and frustration builds. The music deepens, falls and rises again as she transforms, tries taking revenge on Ethan and fails, having lost everything in one evening.

Quiet, lumbering and slow. Ethan takes the Rose flask back easily; threatened with losing Mother Miranda it very quickly escalates as panic sets in and Moreau throws everything he has at him. The music swells and ends with a bang.

Karl: Aram Khachaturian - Masquerade Suite

A bold start. Right from the beginning he exudes arrogance, charisma and danger. He plays nice in front of Miranda with a waltz that picks up in intensity when putting Ethan through his first gauntlet. Then the tone gets deeper and quieter for a moment, as he plots in secret; it’s finally time to set his plan in action. It’s a race to the finish line as Ethan tears through the other lords, unknowingly playing right into Miranda’s plan. Realizing he could be a particularly useful asset/ally, Heisenberg puts him through the second gauntlet. The music is sadistically playful as he tests his will and endurance. Upon failing to recruit Ethan, the music picks up for the third gauntlet and ends with a bang, as Karl dies at the hands of Miranda.

Duke: Georges Bizet - Votre Toast

A friendly face unfitting in a place such as this. The upbeat and energetic theme sticks out like a sore thumb among the others. Whimsy and grandiosity acts as a brilliant facade for his enigmatic true nature. Though the jolly merchant schtick may be a lie, he always delivers on service.

Immediately imposes a sense of authority and dread. The dark theme plays over and over as she performs the same cruel experiments expecting different results, though it only succeeds in remowing her further from humanity. When she hears of Rose she schemes her way into the Winters home, elated to find the perfect vessel after a century of searching. i think a lot of alois's behaviour can be explained by his circumstances . and liek , obviously , tha trauma . but i dont just mean that

he just came into wealth and power , through a name he wants to run through tha mud , with a demon under his command / thats supposed to protect him , and he'll soon be dead

and since he WANTS to bring shame upon tha trancy naem , he has no problem being loud and bold and shameless . ostentatious , even . its not his reputation to tank , its not his money to spend , and he laughs thinking of how hes ruining it all . it maeks absolute sense to me why he has little , if any , inhibitions

I'm not on social media much and I came to FE3H super late so maybe you can explain it? I've heard the term "khalidstan" once before but i never actually see Claude fans (like literally) It's like they don't exist or they're not very active ? it's always Dimitri or edelgard . So Like Where are they ? And Where does this term come from?! is this a Twitter thing (I don't use Twitter...is that where all the FE fans are LOL) i cant even imagine a claude stan And Since his fans dont exist to me I don't even know what "takes" they have on him LOL. the few takes ive seen on Claude are from edelstans (Do they just attack like everyone that goes against their waifu? I bet they hate Hilda for not being recruitable on CF lol)

Just as "Edelstan" does not refer to all of Edelgard's fans but rather to a specific type of combative and exhaustively argumentative subgroup, so too are the Khalidstans distinct from the much larger body of Claude fans. In their case they are easily identified by their insistence that Claude should always be referred to as Khalid, hence the name. As Reddit is the home turf of Edelstans, so is Twitter for the Khalidstans. Most of them were active on Tumblr at one time, but have since left or gone inactive on this platform after they realized they weren't welcome. (I flatter myself to imagine that their weeks-long attempt at trolling me in the summer of 2020 partially contributed to their leaving Tumblr, as I am notoriously impossible to troll.)

Khalidstans are fewer in number than Edelstans, although this does mean that it's easier to identify their defining characteristics:

As mentioned, they always refer to Claude as Khalid, even though that name appears nowhere in the text of Three Houses and was only introduced in a Japanese interview on the game.

They are also antis - members of the broader fandom movement who (mis)apply social justice lingo to vilify characters and ships they dislike on moral grounds - who have denounced Studentleth (Byleth/any student character) pairings as pedophilic. It was my sharing with my followers a lengthy piece one of them had written accusing Three Houses of promoting grooming and pedophilia that got them targeting me for trolling. Related to this, one of them wrote an obvious and widely-mocked troll fic of Claude's mother traveling to Garreg Mach and physically assaulting Byleth for flirting with her son.

Unlike the Edelstans who mire themselves in Watsonian rhetoric, Khalidstans are Doylist to a fault. They accuse IS of being racist for writing Claude Khalid with any negative traits and/or any positive associations with "white" characters. This manifests as their hating Dimitri and Dimidue (they're among the people who call them a white savior pairing, naturally), Hilda and Hilclaude for House Goneril keeping Almyran indentured servants, Rhea and the other Nabateans (who don't count as genocide victims in their eyes because they're light-skinned), Edelgard and Hubert (the former, an imperialist; the latter, racist to Petra in one of their supports which is clearly the most evil thing he's ever done *rolls eyes*), Felix and Ingrid for their behavior toward Dedue, and probably others I'm forgetting. One of them additionally coined the confusing term "white of color" which they then used to refer to characters like Ashe and Marianne, and neither I nor anyone else can understand what on earth that could refer to aside from those being "white" characters that that person likes despite their skin color.

In connection with the above, they are known for creating elaborate headcanons and OCs involving Almyra, Brigid, Duscur, and other lands outside Fódlan - which would be fine were it not always such a transparent means of bashing canon and the long list of characters and ships they hate. They've produced such gems as the headcanon that Lorenz is half-Dagdan (meaning coded East Asian, to them) because of his hair color and slanted eyes, which matters for the next point; a fic where Claude, Petra, and Dedue are in a poly relationship that serves only to bash Dedue's relationship with Dimitri and tell us how much happier he is with his two new lovers; the belief that Cyril is effectively Rhea's slave and that if IS weren't so racist he'd happily turn on her; and repeated complaints whenever Claude gets any new official art or a Heroes alt that IS is whitewashing him/not making him dark enough, possibly in part because his being biracial conflicts with their oddly conservative attitude toward interracial relationships. As ought to be apparent, despite their alleged progressivism the Khalidstans can be quite reductive when it comes to characters, valuing them solely on the basis of their skin color and other physical traits and assuming that all the game's darker-skinned characters would automatically understand and relate to each other even if they have no canon interaction.

Of course, this also ties into the fact that several of the most prominent Khalidstans have freely admitted to having never played Three Houses at all, which explains why they spend most of their time rejecting canon and building up their AUs. This doesn't stop them from getting embroiled in fandom drama, however; there's the anti-Studentleth screeds on Twitter, as mentioned, but they also took the side of Claurenz in an apparently heated ship war between them and Dimiclaude shippers. They justify shipping Claurenz because of the headcanon about him being half-Dagdan (and therefore not "white"), which is to them obviously superior to shipping Claude with evil racist conservative/centrist Dimitri.

Khalidstans' impact on fandom is less obvious than Edelstans', because there aren't as many and because Twitter is less suited to lengthy theories and exposés than Reddit (or Tumblr). Nonetheless, some of the discourse around the Three Hopes demo carries signs of their influence. They led the charge in praising Three Hopes because Shez is a student and not a teacher (thereby avoiding "pedophilia"), and I can't help but think of them whenever I see people surprised or angry at the developers because Almyra invades the Alliance and Claude helps to repel them. The events we've seen of Golden Wildfire thus far are consistent with Claude and Almyra as we saw them in Three Houses, but not with the Khalidstans' fanon interpretations of Almyra as an enlightened paradise with no serious problems except constant aggression from the evil racists of Fódlan. Regarding an upcoming political shakeup in Leicester that dataminers have uncovered, this discourse is likely to only get worse after the full game releases.

from what we have of the house leaders talking to him gregory is.. a coward. hes better off the battlefield than on it and claude even says he has a skill for running away. its also possible that he might be in the mage cannon class, which we know is armored (but i would love to see him as enchanter because the back is open on it.. what if he has a tattoo as well ⁉️)

which is so strange because celestia and madeline dont seem to be very different to zephia and marni at all- celestia and zephia are even likely both melusines. gregory on the other hand sounds like a totally different person

we know the other world has opposites from the bond convos (hector saying the chloé of his world has the most boring food taste ever, for example) so it makes sense that gregory Would be the exact opposite of a sadomasochist HOWEVER And I PROMISE im going somewhere with this, as i said before celestia and madeline are not very different.

by gregorys name fitting in with brodia's name scheme and celestias "we're all from different places" dialogue, its a safe assumption hes brodian, which would mean griss is too. in the griss and zephia death scene griss mentions barely remembering his parents, and that zephia found him when he was quote "little", so another easy assumption is that griss's parents must have died or abandoned him by some means and zephia found + raised him. celestias dialogue also calls the others her family as well which means SOMEWHERE in that series of events, we get a split between "gregory" and "griss"

so where am i going with this? please consider that the other world has opposites in terms of personality outside of our three missing hounds. the opposite of diamant would be completely unhinged and likely enjoy bloodshed. hed maybe even have killed his own father to take the throne going full on michalis, its even possible he would have killed alcryst, too. now back to gregory and griss both being brodian,

in conclusion when the dlc drops if im correct about any of this please expect a MILLION FICS where gregory and griss are swapped over. griss cant corrupt diamant ALL the time we gotta give him a break. give him a pre-messed up diamant as a treat ((and give gregory a break in the process please if you think diamant and griss would fuck nasty because of griss imagine what that diamant does to HIM!!!!))

How are currygom and the translators counting ages? I was recently reminded that koreans can use a different system of counting ages than in the west. rereading the early chapters the manhwa does refer to leez as 16 eventhough the year is n15 so yeah i think we're going off of korean ages.

I think i may have posted about this before, but i just want to make sure i catch any new thoughts.

I used to say a lot that i am indifferent to Edelgard. I dont know her enough to like or dislike her. I could go either way. And because Edelclaude looked cute and dorky in fancomics, i tried to keep myself open to liking her. But i still havent put in any time towards watching Crimson Flower (besides the essentials). I thought i could like her, because everyone kept comparing Crimson Flower to Code Geass, 1 of my top 3 favorite anime. I thought that if FE3H was a single route story, free of the distracting competition of Claude and Dimitri, then maybe i would've been an Edelgard fan. But i still haven't put effort into getting to know her. I have to admit now that I'm just not interested in Edelgard.

And what's worse, is that every time i see Edelgard's face, it reminds me of annoying things her fandom has done. That's got nothing to do with her character! That shouldn't factor into anything! And yet, i cant help feel annoyed whenever i see her now.

I think it's time to give up the fight. It's time to settle into accepting that i dont like Edelgard.

Sometimes i randomly think about Edelgard, and i just get really mad. I know FE3H is this fictitious, fantastical setting with dragons and magic. But its established serious tone regarding ideas behind warfare, keep me thinking too seriously about how its leader characters handle those issues. And as someone whose favorite anime has been Sengoku Basara, since 2011, it really bothers me that Edelgard's solution to continent-wide problems is always to declare war. Basara, despite its name literally meaning "stylized, flashy, over the top", pretty much drilled into your brain, the very real fact that war is always bad. It takes collateral damage onto innocent bystander civilians, takes collateral damage out of the land resources that ordinary people depend on to live, conscripts people to die as soldiers who could have had ambitions outside of war (like simple happiness with loved ones or contributing to culture), it dehumanizes soldiers into just pawns, it dehumanizes leaders into people who treat others like pawns, etc. Basara made very visceral, the realistic ideas that war is just a failure of leadership, failure of diplomacy, and indicative of Weakness and simply a manifestation of the fear of being hurt or powerless. (All while simultaneously glorifying the idealized aspects of war.) Even in 3Hopes, when Edelgard finally did the thing i wished she did in FE3H, teaming up with the Church against the Agarthans, she then turned around and her solution to her problem with the Church was to start ANOTHER war. She could have exploited the Church's trust in her, as an ally, to lure Church leaders into an assassination, or gradually undermined the problematic Church leadership, until people stopped following them---you'd think someone trained by the Agarthans would've seen the effectiveness of the latter strategy. But her solution to all her problems is always war. I liked someone's observation that the Empire's culture and her traumatic background explain why her solution to all major problems is to start a war. But in the vein of "cool motive; still murder", all that explaination proves to me is that Edelgard should NOT be in a leadership position. She is unfit for it, and has poor judgement enough times, that her bad decisions repeatedly cost a war-spanning range of damage to people's lives and the resources they need to live. She's not a good leader. And though in some cases, that makes an interesting character, with FE3H's act 1 establishing tone, to me, she just seems like the problem and cause of frustration.

She even takes admirable traits, like Basara's Masamune's unphasable resolve, and just turns it into a Weakness. Her flaw is her singular mind. And though that unshakable resolve could be admirable, i think FE3H and even FE Heroes wanted us to question if that really is slways a good thing. Even some of her conversations with Dimitri and Claude in FEH come to a halt, because she falls back onto her same "i won't be deterred from my path" sentiments, right before she stops listening to what anyone else has to say. Her lack of collaboration and lack of imagination are her tragedies. You'd think someone with Hubert as her retainer would've thought of more subterfuge solutions, besides outright war. But she never had that imagination. Her character is so focused on her Resolve and being unphased, undeterred from her path, that she can't adapt to better solutions, recognize better options, or even consider better ideas. Maybe that singular, resolved mindset enabled her to survive her background trauma, but it's hampering her as a leader. And her inability to drop it when appropriate, in order to make better decisions as a leader, tells me she's still just stuck in her trauma, with her mentality stuck in myopic Survival Mode, more than someone who can see all the options and consider the best decisions. She doesn't doubt herself, but that also means she doesnt check herself. Even Date Masamune, characterized by his unphasable resolve, pivoted to take other people's input or even change his ideas! And i dont mean small, mundane things. I mean, he was willing to change his warfare strategies! But i get that FE3H wanted to give each lord a fatal flaw, so that no one route could be "undeniably righteous". It's just that Edelgard's flaw annoys me in particular, a lot.

And it's time i accept that i probably dont like her.

Whenever theres the "two majorish kinda asshole but still good guys supporting (male) characters with chips on their houlder who have that very clear fandom-baity "lets get shippers ship it" dynamic" I tend to have zero interest in it. Because just the tropes dont do it for me, at least in the way theyre usually served. You need to have some sort of spice and make it compelling in other way than instantly knowing "oh yeah this is going to have the most amount of fics on AO3 wont it?". Like even Dimi/lix/ is better since at least their dynamic is interesting and compelling for both characters but also on a thematic level. Syl/vi/x feels just intsys going "you know what lets give fujos what they want. Azure Moon is the odagiri effect otome game audience rpute anyways" while also cartering to most gay people on tumblr dot com who spend their nights reading modern AUs on AO3. Which you know what. Good for them. Its just I need a bit more to my ships than tjat.

On a related note most popular 3h ships dont do much for me. The only one I actually liike of the popular ones is Ferdiebert I think (I also used to like Dimiclaude but that was less of the ship (though I did like it) and more that I loved to talk about it to a close friend who since then has moved ships (they like Claude/Felix now) as well as just moved fandoms in general). The rest I either tolerate or dislike. Tbf most of this is because most of my 3h ships are m/f ships (th for once the m/f ships are actually good) but even the ones thay are m/m f/f are fringe small dedicated fandom but not much else (cries on Dimitri/Ashe)

if there is any consolation, jade has said 3 times already thats she is taking charge of the album right now and writing for the group since leigh and perrie have to take care of the babies, there is a rumor of them performing at the EMAs, their PR manager posted a picture of them with the caption "here to 10 years more" and all the girls liked (and i doubt he would be so idiot to post something like that knowing a break up annoucement coming). Also Claud their choreographer and dancer friend said they still have a lot to do. The girls also mentioned at the begining of the year they would work with solo projects at the same time as group projects. Like Leigh with her movie coming out in december, perrie's jewerly collection, Jade shows and future music, etc. Maybe at the downtime we can expect parallel music projects. We dont know if in the span of two days they decided that they would break up but the most recent one debunking the article is that pic of their manager. They just cant say anything public dragging news outlets cause 1) they have never debunked rumors even once during their careers 2) the article is linked to Jesy and Nicki and they have stayed quiet all this time and they dont want to add more unnecesary drama that nicki's fandom is creating cause they are insane.

Even saying something like "stop making up articles blah blah blah" will be somehow linked to the feud somehow so 💀 better stay quiet

That depends a lot on wether Sothis would have enough of her memories back to know who Rhea, Seteth and Flayn are, but in any case she would not be happy - after all she’s followed Byleth since they were a baby, you could almost think of her as a mother figure. 

Rhea is getting scolded & put in the timeout corner for sure - IDK if she would be capable of feeling angry over this after all the efforts she made & all the loneliness she endured, though probably not, as she already is a bit apologetic about “doing the forbidden” and how she “tried to rule in Sothis’ place as best as she could”. She might even start out by falling to her feet & begging forgiveness... and consider the result still worth it. 

i dont think Sothis would do much worse than scold her if she remembers that she’s her daughter, & Rhea would listen to what she says. 

Claude and Edelgard would be furious (& maybe be left with some doubt that they could have prevented this if only they had come clean about their secrets either)

Edelgard might still have the presence of mind to use the situation much as she did Rhea’s transformation in CF, “See the church leadership is cruel & evil, they just axed someone we all liked etc.” - I’m not sure that she would get everyone on her side to the same extent if Byleth weren’t there. The Eagles probably, since they follow her by default, maybe even Lorenz, Constance & Lysithea, but probably not, say, Ingrid or Leonie. So I don’t think it would lead to the same success as in CF. The war would end up drawn-out & protracted until she saw no choice but to work with Cornelia & let Thales unleash the demonic beasts, & they would be harder to constrain/ defeat them, afterwards. Even if she still wins, it would be much costlier 

Claude seems to have suspected something like this in canon verse, telling Byleth to “watch their back” during the ritual. He generally has a tendency to be all survival/utility minded while he’s still IN a situation & have his feeling hit him later. However there’s no doubt that he’d find it morally repugnant and would not hesitate to speak his mind about that right away. After that, though, he’s kinda back to square one. He thought he was winning a valuable ally possibly even a real friend, and now they’re gone. It might harden his cynism and/or convince him that the church can’t be worked with, but even if he still wanted to he has no convenient trusted ally there, so it would be hard for the sequence of events to go like in Verdant Wind. 

It’s hard to say what Dimitri might other than that there might be a breakdown involved. Up to this point, he knew next to nothing about the church’s shady antics. Judging by the big emotional display after jeralt’s death, Dimitri is already quite attached to Byleth at this point. He is a believer but as per his godess tower scene he has a view of the godess as distant & interfering little, what we’d call ‘deism’. If Sothis tries to act in a comfortingmanner or get him to snap out of it, chances are he’d start raving about why she allows the evil in the world. I don’t think he’d be in a place to understand that insofar as there’s a real Sothis she might not be exactly like the church says. 

I think out of the three Claude would be the most likely to listen to / want to find out about what the real Sothis has to say & what she’s like, out of sheer curiosity & because it might be useful.

Dimitri would be too emotional, & Edelgard wouldn’t trust one word out of her mouth especially while she’s wearing Byleth’s body. 

Of course what this might be failing to take into account is that Sothis might be powerful enough to solve the entire plot with a snip of her fingers. 

She might just freeze time on the random imperial soldiers showing up in the tomb & decide that no one’s leaving until they talk it out; Presumably she wouldn’t want a war, though beyond that,  its a bit unclear what she would want. 

All the accounts we have of her time on earth are old & biased - it’s likely to the closest to how Seteth sees his mission in Silver Snow, but then again, she seems to be satisfied with any of the 4 outcomes (she tells byleth to get up & fix things in the exact same way & will even still marry them afterwards if asked)  so I doubt she’s fundamentally opposed to humans ruling themselves. 

Edelgard wouldn’t accept even the benevolent paternalistic stewardship that Seteth wants & probably insist that they stay out of human affairs, but with a new,  less irrational leader in charge she might consider a treaty or peace deal like, “help me get rid of the agarthans and I will grant you some land in a remote location where you can live in peace and leave us alone” & then she gives them some mountaintop & forbids humans to enter it. Or they pick Zanado & live there like in the Seteth/Catherine ending in Azure moon, except with Sothis also there. 

Claude would regard them as an inconvenient bothersome group to deal with & feel threatened by all their power, though he would still be willing to work with them & get on their good side etc, but he wouldn't ever fully trust them. 

It’s harder to say with Dimitri, as he doesn’t have a real goal/agenda until after his redemption. he might be a spanner in the works/chaos spark that prevents any of the above scenarios as hed still want Edelgard dead. 

Then again, some change in his mindset might be triggered, if by some miracle, circumstance or application of force he listens long enough for Sothis to explain how the afterlife actually works or something.

can i ask what kind of person the reader in the story w claude is supposed to be? im pretty sure this was just me misreading stuff but at first i kind of got the image that they're like a competent assassin kind of person (like really unlike how it usually is in reader inserts) but then they were so devoted to claude and in the second part at first i assumed they were like, smart or cunning enough to keep up with yuri at least but then they seemed shy around him and there were also implications that claude manipulated either the reader or the reader and yuri as well but i didn't fully pick up on that and still cant really see it? which btw isnt bcus of the way u wrote it at all, im pretty sure its deadass just me being socially inept but like idk the readers personality to me seems pretty hard to nail down, esp because initially i thought they were maybe just more vulnerable around claude but when yuri showed up later on they also seemed kind of 'weak' around him so i think i might've just gotten a wrong first impression, or was this on purpose? u dont have to answer this ofc if u don't want to!! i think its really just me being kind of dumb but im kinda having a hard time with it lol

No!!! You’re not dumb at all! I will willingly admit that you’re right in saying the reader’s personality is dreadfully inconsistent, that’s on me 100%.. you don’t need to put yourself down to feed my ego, what you’re saying is a totally valid critique!

So now that I’ve so graciously accepted your adorable criticism, I am going to make excuses... Sorry... Anyway, the best one I can muster to explain the inconsistency for that is that I wrote the first part last... January? I think. I was working on it last Christmas. I mentioned it in an ask before, but Alethia was very specifically a one-shot, I had no follow-up plans and honestly, I didn’t even mentally structure any ideas about what could happen afterwards. Generally, that’s how I write because I don’t think even a half step in front of myself. So, because of that, when I was writing Dolos, I didn’t really go in with the intention of writing with the same character because that “character” was never meant to exist outside that particular story, I was using a reactionary stand-in to suit the story I concocted and some vague ideas I had about how what Claude did would have affected her. 

If I wanna start pulling some even cheaper excuses, I can try and say that Claude’s horrible breach of trust made her far more insecure than she would have been beforehand. Trust issues, insecurity, emotionally unstable... Basically, just a lot more vulnerable. He kinda destroyed something she saw as the measure of her self worth and weaponized her loyalty and affection for him, destabilizing two key components of how she defined herself. Yuri’s arrival made it worse because he and Claude are pretty similar. My thought process was that if there was one other person that would have seemed like a threat to her at that moment, it would be Yuri. Both positively and negatively, Yuri represented the flip side of what Claude was to her, so that’s kind of why I played up her nervousness/insecurity/doubt around him? But you’re still right because I don’t really know if that’s how the character from Alethia would have reacted, that’s the character I found interesting for this story. 

As far as the manipulation game, the idea was that Claude also viewed Yuri as the flip side of himself. Or, like, his alternative counterpart. Yuri’s the one who wears eye makeup and listens to alt pop punk music. Their dialogue in the DLC when they’re standing in Abyss together is one of my favorites because they’re both sneaky secretive sneaks who have a weakness for friendship monologues, drawing a pretty easy parallel between them. The reason I retconned that reader had carried a small torch (a match, if you will) for Yuri when they first met, before she and Claude were a Thing, was to set up the dynamic of possible interest. Not so much jealousy, but a precedent that the reader would already have a weakness for Yuri that Claude knew about. The whole situation was convoluted, I know, but basically, Claude was all-in betting on the fact that reader would fall prey to Yuri’s charms only to get fucked up guilt about it because, surprise, surprise, he’s not above weaponizing her emotions against her. You know, again.

Ultimately, I wouldn’t say most of the things I do with insert characters is on purpose, I create a personality to fit within the story I want to write without much interest in how they would exist independently. I will be the first to admit that it’s cheap and kind of lazy, so I’m sorry for confusing you. But... at the same time... I’m probably not going to stop. 

To me, reader insert fanfiction is like the dark rides at Disneyworld. But, like, with more dicks and fewer scary animatronics. 

I hope this cleared things up for you, or at least does a good job explaining why you’re not dumb, I’m just a hack fraud

being a traditional dancer was actually really fun. you loved it. getting to wear stunning kimonos with beautiful seasonal motifs on them. around this time of the year you wore a light green kimono with yellow and pink flowers and patterns on it. the sleeves were longer than usual, but not long enough for it to be a furisode. 

currently you were on the stage performing, as it was a spring festival. the sun was in the middle of setting, painting the sky in an orange to blue gradient. the crowd was all for your movements, rhythmically chanting ‘asore’s and ‘yoisho’s to the music you danced to. you being head maiden at the shrine, had mastered the art of dance fairly quickly. you often danced with two other maidens, but occasionally you had solos. this was one of those times. and as your father had stated, there was someone special in the crowd watching you today.

earl Alois Trancy. you searched for him with your eyes when you could, careful not to seem like you’re frantically watching out for someone. but you were. you have never had someone of this high royalty watching you before, and to be completely honest, you were nervous. you didn’t have to search for long, he and his jet black butler stood out from the rest of the crowd. you gulped as your eyes landed on him and you acknowledged how young he looked; much younger than what you expected. you assumed he was around your age. finding peace at the thought that it wasn’t some old guy of high nobility that watched you, you continued to dance putting thoughts of Trancy aside.

the dance ended, and you were quickly off to the changing room, wanting to get the warm clothing off of you. you waited for one of the maidens to come help you take the kimono off, fiddling with the sash in the meantime, and changed to your normal clothing. you returned the favour to the kind maiden, and you two headed outside hoping to enjoy the rest of the night by buying sweets and watching fireworks.

you chitchatted light-heartedly as you were walking down the streets looking at all the different stalls.    “(L/N), you are so good at dancing,” the girl complimented, “i bet the they loved you!” you didn’t really know how to respond to praise, so you just awkwardly chuckled and thanked her.     “ah no, i made so many mistakes! and either way-” you were interrupted by bumping into a stranger. more specifically, into the chest of a stranger. you quickly jumped back and apologized furiously, embarressed at your lack of ability to pay attention to where you are walking.

   “i’m sorry! i didn’t mean to..” you yell, waving your hands in front of you waiting for the man to say something. then you realized this was no ordinary man. this was Alois Trancy’s butler. along with Alois. your eyes widened at the sight of him and you bowed, feeling a blush creeping on to your face.

Alois smirked and chuckled.     “Claude, apologize to this young lady. she’s clearly too flustered to apologize properly herself,” he laughed, you and your friend just standing there staring at them. the butler - Claude - did just that, he apologized for bumping into you. you were incredibly embarrassed at this point. he readjusted his slick glasses with his middle finger after doing a not-so-steep bow. by this time you regained your composition, and pushed a stray strand of hair behind your ear.

   “no, sir, it was my fault. i should’ve watched where i was going. i’m terribly sorry.” you uttered at last.     “anyhow, (Y/N), right? i watched you dance earlier. i must say you’re really pretty when dancing. did you know that?,” Alois asks as if nothing had happened. you glanced over at your friend who was as suprised as you were.

   “yes, my name is (L/N) (Y/N), sir,” you curtsied, “pleased to meet you. this is my friend,” you stopped talking to give her a chance to introduce herself.     “Rika.” by that time she had understood that the boy was someone important, if not by his posh appearance, then by his butler. 

   “what a beautiful name~” Alois purred, while kissing your hand, more or less ignoring your friend. you blushed at his kindness and actions, but you quickly shoved the thoughts away.     “(L/N), i have a proposal for you,” he continued with a smile. you raised an eyebrow at this, curious of what it could be. you glanced at Claude, who had the same serious and stern face he’s had since you met him, and then at Rika, who was equally as perplexed as you.

   “w.. what is it, sir?,” you ask, awaiting his answer patiently.     “i want you to dance for me. you could be my entertainer or something - i just really want to see you dance, (L/N). it gets so boring at the mansion, with just the triplets and Hannah,” he said, having a smug look on his face. your jaw dropped at this. you? a personal danc- okay wait that sounds weird.     “i’ll pay you.” he added, staring intently at you. you honestly didn’t know what to respond, so you just shifted your gaze from his left eye to his right and then back to the left one again. you hadn’t realized his pretty icy-blue eyes before now. you thought hard about the pros and cons of this. first of all you barely knew him. second, you didn’t want to move away from your family, but he will pay you. and your family could really use some extra money.

   “well.. i’m not quite sure what my parents will say to-” you tried explaining your situation, but he cut you off,     “Claude will take care of that. don’t worry about it.” and with that being said, Claude already took off without you having a chance to stop him.

   “but she can’t go! she’s still head maiden here,” Rika tried backing you up, but to no use.     “i am sure they will understand. (L/N) got a better opportunity, so why wouldn’t she take it? we’ll be going now,” Alois stated, grabbing your arm and dragging you after him. you didn’t want to cause a scene so you just gave in, giving Rika a ‘don’t worry about it’ expression.

the night that you planned spending with Rika, you actually spent with Alois. Claude didn’t join you for the rest of the night but you assumed he had typical butler business to take care of. you and Alois got to know eachother better and at one point you even forgot that he was an earl - in the moment you only saw him as a boy, as a friend. you even thought he was cute, but you quickly snapped out of it. you had to admit, it was actually fun being with Alois, albeit could be rather dark at times. you even found out that they will be staying for two more days, so you had a little more time to decide if you wanted to leave with him or stay.

   “i had a fun night, Alo- i mean sir, it was very enjoyable. i’m afraid i’ll have to leave now, my parents are probably waiting for me,” you said, taking the lollipop Alois bought for you out of your mouth momentarily.    “okay, (Y/N)! i hope it’s okay that i call you by your first name. whatever, i don’t really care. i call you whatever i want to call you,” he laughs, “i’ll see you tomorrow,” he smirks and waves as you take your leave.

you enter your house and notice that all the lights were off. your family was already asleep, so you were extra careful not to make too much noise. you knew how angry your father could get when you woke him, but thankfully you got to your room safe. you changed to your sleeping garments and layed down, happily waiting for the sleep to take you so you could meet Alois again.

that night was about two months ago. since that time, you moved to the Trancy manor and have stayed there since. you would write to your parents and friends on the regular, who were supportive and understanding about your situation. now, dancing for Alois was... special. you had grown feelings for him and it even seemed like he liked you back. you were treated better than the other servants (but treated as a pet nonetheless,) and everytime Alois wanted you to dance for him it always ended up with him having his hands all over you. he never actually dared touch you under your clothes and it never got too intimate, but you didn’t mind it either way.

your late evening thoughts were abrubtly cut off by Claude knocking on your door. you allow him to enter.    “miss (Y/N), His Highness wants to talk with you.” he says, pushing his glasses up. you raise an eyebrow,    “talk with me? have i done something wrong?,” you ask rhetorically, “guess i’ll have to find out myself.”

thoughts are racing through your head as you imagine all the situations that can take place in a few minutes. you were nervous to say the least. you could feel a droplet of sweat trickle down your neck as you found yourself infront of Alois’ door. you gulped heavily before knocking on the door.

   “come in,” you could hear on the other side. and so you did. you opened the room finding Alois sitting on the bed with his usual purple coat beside him. you closed the door behind you and adjusted your skirt.    “am i in trouble, sir?” you cant help but ask. Alois smirks, as always, and shakes his head childishly.    “no, (Y/N). i need to ask you something.” he answers. you were puzzled. ask me? ask me what? before you could reply, he continued.    “(Y/N), be honest. do you, by any chance, like me?” you stood there for a few seconds, taking in what he just asked you. you felt your face heating up, but there was nothing you could do about it. “pardon?” you mutter, in a quiet voice just loud enough for him to hear you.    “you heard me, dont act dumb.” his voice got more serious and his expression changed to an impatient, annoyed one. “i..” you start, but your voice faded away as you lost the courage you had gained on your way to his room. he sighs.    “i take that as a yes. after all, you’ve never stopped me from touching you, have you? and ontop of that you do seem to be enjoying yourself whenever i do.” he regains his usual smirk. as you hear him say that your head perks up and the blush grew more intense. you just stutter, not knowing what to say. how humiliating.    “don’t worry, (Y/N). i don’t mind it. in fact, it’s quite charming.” he stood up from the bed, not breaking the eye contact he had with you. he loosened his bowtie a little and licked his lips as he made his way across the room to you. you could feel more sweat drip down your neck and face and for every step he took towards you, you took one back. until you eventually reached the door behind you. Alois was now right infront of you, manically smiling. he put his hands on either side of your head, pinning you to the door. he stared into your eyes. you were a tad bit scared, as you had never done anything like this before. your heart raced wildly as you stood there awaiting for what was next.

he cupped your left cheek with his right hand, stroking it with his thumb. you closed your eyes, taking in the affection but opened them again as soon as you felt his thumb brush over your lips. you were surprised. you could hear him giggle quietly at your expression.    “i’ll make you mine, (Y/N).” he whispered huskily into your ear. you didn’t have time to react as he closed the distance between you two, his soft, glossy lips on yours. your eyes widened at the contact but you soon melted into the kiss, trying your best to keep up with him, but you failed and he established dominance over you. his tongue was now inside your mouth, dancing with yours and you wrapped your hands around his chest, pulling him closer.

there weren’t too many words said that night as things escalated quickly between you two. about hour or so later you found yourself in his king sized bed with your clothes who knows where. Alois layed beside you, panting ever-so-slightly, staring into your eyes lovingly. he pulled your body into his, your face in his chest, and you wrap your arms around him tightly. you two layed like that for what seemed an eternity, until he finally broke the silence.

   “(Y/N), promise you won’t leave me. ever.” his voice turned melancholically sad, and you swore you could hear the tiniest crack in his voice. and if it weren’t for the darkness in the room you could’ve perhaps even seen a tear in his eye.

“i would never. i promise,” you whisper back, and with that answer he tightened his grip around you. and then the sleep engulfed you.
