(4/10/23)
As someone who graduated w/ a humanities degree I want to let fellow humanities people know that
you’re not a failure for not having your dream job straight out of college/university
if it takes a long ass time for you to get that job, it’s normal
some of these people will say very unhelpful, un-uplifting things and you gotta ignore them
I don’t want to get too vulnerable, but I don’t have any comments about the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope we all get through there.

"kids these days don’t want to work"
Oh, no. Kids want to work, because no work means no money, but the job market is laughing at us.
University/College is a big scam, unless you really want to become an engineer or a pc nerd.
My parents paid for a useless law degree and NOW I have to pay more money for a fucking accountant course for unemployed people, because it's impossible to find a job with my profile.
Education system is just a way to steal working class money.

Any femmes that make decent money looking for a stay at home husbutch? I cook, clean, bake, crochet, garden, and I come with a sweet little cat! Maybe we'll even fall in love after this cheeky little arranged marriage

Being unemployed and trying to find jobs is one of the most terrible things. A job posting will be about $14/hour and require a cover letter, a bachelor's degree, and a minimum of three reference letters.
And then when you make it to the interview, they always inform you that the pay is lower than what was initially advertised.

Somehow, nothing I do feels enough ever. I run myself down to the minimum and I can't give much more.

How is unemployment related to gender and mental health?
Ahhh! Unemployment! You may wonder what a big word like that means - well, basically it's losing your job or not being able to find a job.
And how does that influence mental health exactly?
Well, Aysar and Piovani claim in their article "The Gender Impact of Unemployment on Mental Health: A Micro Analysis for the United States" that "...employment serves not only as a source of income, but it also fulfills a social and psychological function" (2021:507-508). In other words, having a job helps keep people economically secure and also gives them purpose in life.
As for gender differences, it's a bit more complicated. Unemployment has adverse effects on both men and women (Avsar and Piovani, 2021, p. 505), but in countries like Canada and the US, women are more likely to be unemployed and face worse effects because they are paid much lower than men and they do housework in addition to their jobs (2021:508-510).
However, two European studies also found that men are more prone to psychological effects due to "their perception of having lost their breadwinner role" (Avsar and Piovani 2021:510).
