time travel in ten - sequential narrative collage piece done for my class, Artifact.

ramblings below the cut for those interested in the process/life update for friends who have noticed i've been gone

right lmao. i had two weeks to do this project and had a completely different idea that i just could not get myself to be excited about. emailed my prof in desperation, but it being like 10 pm meant that she was not about to respond. within 30 minutes, as it goes, i got struck with divine inspiration by whatever force of nature governs procrastination-induced genius, and i promptly spent the next 12 waking hours non-stop working on this.

my class, artifact, is a requirement for the foundation year at the college i attend. it centers around time-based media, ranging from the sequential illustration here to video later in the semester, and a bunch of other projects designed to get us thinking in 4d. artifact is the theme of the class - my peers are doing the same projects under a variety of different themes (tragically, haunting filled up too quickly and i missed out on enrollment in that one).

our first project was designing an artifact and doing a write-up of the story behind it. the girl to my left made beaded spiders members of a fictional cult carried. the guy across from me made an amulet of a long-dead god. you get the vibes. mine, which I still need to take professional photos of, is a pocketwatch that lets you time travel. cause, yknow. i'm me. it was gonna be about time travel.

i had originally intended to do a bunch of drawings of the watch's owner, building out her backstory and the world she lives in, and explaining why the watch exists,,,, then i couldn't bring myself to pick up the stylus. I just can't seem to find the energy for my usual digital art (sorry friends i miss yall i'm still here i swear).

I haven't drawn fanart or my ocs in months now, since last semester, and I miss it a whole bunch but right now that creative energy just. is not happening. i don't plan on abandoning it forever by any means, but p much everything i have is going towards school right now. sad as that is, i'm having so much fun, and i'm so proud of the technical improvements i've made. I've got so many things i want to create, mostly for my ocs. i still love crit role, but i've fallen of campaign three. i don't have the time, and the story hasn't been engaging me for a bit.

i've been really into dr who lately, and am eagerly waiting for the spare time to sit and watch all of candela obscura. i'm in a new dnd game. i've got friends! real life friends! irl friends who called me the wizard friend within a few hours of knowing me before i even opened my mouth about dnd lmao. i've discovered a new love of collage, and i've just declared my major in something unique to my school, a program called Studio for Interrelated Media. i'll be learning about illustration still through the extra electives i'll have room for, but i also get to explore printmaking in more depth, as well as event planning, installation, curation, and theatre work as well.

i miss being on here a whole bunch and want to be more active when i get more time. don't plan on abandoning this blog by any means. boston has been kind to me, and though i have had some Real Low Points, i've also been living the life i've hoped for since i was a kid. i'm good, really really good.

I was/am an English girlie. It was my fave subject throughout school, and in my senior AP class especially. We were a small class of 11 students and shirked the normal lesson plans in favor of more fun things, like acting out Macbeth in the school's auditorium instead of just reading it in the classroom. The teacher also brought in a coffee pot for us (on my request) so we had fresh brewed coffee every day.

Dream job?

An author, that would be ideal. I've got a lot of ideas rolling around in my brain but haven't been brave enough to put them to paper (screen?) yet despite having a literal bachelor's degree in writing. One day I'll be less afraid of failure enough to actually try. 😢 If not an author, I'd be more than happy just to work in a publishing role of some kind. (:

I managed to finish the grueling line art stage and put together the page set up

I'm making illustration to make colouring sheets for an event at my college plus preparing actual prints for a sale the following week

It's not for a few weeks still but I have to hit a printing deadline so I can get all my shit together and ya know printed

Since I finally finished all the line art I've started laying on base colours for each character, heres what I got so far

However I've done the hardest part already so really im like three quarters done

I was also preparing other things I've done into printouts/colouring sheets which is really me extracting the line art, some things work better than other tho so it's either trial and error or mild edits

This one I'm debating on including just cus the original has more intricate details than not

I'm also gonna start a new drawing as well as digitize some other work for this too...

I also get new ideas really fast so when I have an idea for a paint I have to stretch the canvas immediately so well now I have to do it and if I dont I cant focus on anything else and I claw at my skin in anticipation cus this will in fact be my best painting ever actually, all of the 19 in counting painting in my corner are not ba in my eyes this will become my favorite thing ever

and then I start painting and I hate it.

i in a bit of a weird time rn. ive been majorly online in some form since 2020, but only in the last months of 22 did i start posting/creating anything to more than discord servers and friends.

as you can see with the new icon and the fact ive posted more art in a few days that i have... ever on this blog, im readdressing my proiritys when it comes to our beloved interweb. my 'successful' pieces of art were gifts to bigger creatives. ive done lot of fandom stuff, and been inspired by the creatives around me.

but emulation isnt good for the self. ive had alot of issues with going from traditional to digital, especially with the gap in expertise, ive learnt and grown [albeit in my own stubborn way without getting help] and how for fictional characters its hard to get refrences.

i am a visual artist, i work best of pictures or models, not having to fuiger out what things look like and how body's work. i have done some stunning [if i say so myslef] graphite drawing which while not 100% photo-realistic are pretty damn close. i have trialed and error-ed my way through the basics, and i can do things like the dick grayson alone anamatic with fast and quick drawings of bodys in motion.

as i mentioned earlier, the bone/skeleton pieces are not just easier and more interesting for me to do, but a lot less stressful, i do them for myself, for my skills, and how i see light.

going forward id say to expect less fandomy stuff. more still lifes and objects and buildings. ill still do people drawings but their not my favorite to do. im not gonna never do anything fandom related ever again. but dont expect it id say.

an artists journey is a long and ever changing one, im still slowly getting a 'style' and i think moving to subjects i enjoy drawing more will help me avoid burnout and stress. art is my relaxing thing to do after long hours and stressful days, and i want to keep it that way.

as i grow even more conscious of the future and jobs and all that, i want to grasp my freedom i have right now, use it to make stuff i enjoy, and maybe get my own little corner of the internet, being able to continue my art through the years ahead. i want to get something im good at. to be the neon skeleton artist. or the bones bitch. gain an identity and something for being me and doing what i enjoy.

idk. this dosent mean much change. but i hope yall stick with me for whatever happens. ive really enjoyed tumblr and everything so far, thank you for sticking around, beloved mutuals new and old, and all the regulars in my notifs! and everyone who has liked or shared or commented on my works, it means the world and has got me though a lot.

Hello again, back with part 2 of grouping together all my remaining Our Life Inktober drawings because I'm dumb and forgot I had a tumblr for a month and a half : D

Day 23: step 3 Miranda and Terri Just a couple of buddies being pals; fully used this as a chance to practice drawing textured hair in my traditional style. I've been doing some practice work with it digitally, but I've always been bad at it traditionally so this was good. Definitely going to keep working on that!

Day 24: step 3 Baxter So canonically this man takes ballroom dancing classes and shit but you can't convince me that he's never taken ballet before, if only to further his flexibility to make this joke lmao. And in skinny jeans too-!

Day 25: favorite moment in step 3 It's a running theme with these prompts that I can't decide what the hell to draw because every moment is so damn good so yeah. Honestly though if forced to choose I would have to pick the dlc moment Reflection, because getting to hear a more in-depth and serious look at Cliff and Kyra's marriage and Cove's early childhood was absolutely incredible. It was so well done, especially with how lighthearted and fun a lot of the game is. But I couldn't think of anything to draw for that moment and was stuck thinking about the dlc Happiness moment so yeah, I ended up drawing that bit at the end where you switch the plans on Cove and take him to the poppy field <3

Day 26: halloween outfits! I didn't want to go too ambitious considering I was already super behind in the event at this point, so I just drew step 1 Cove and Hunter in their spooky costumes. Cove is a zombie, as per canon for the year he got his cast off, and he convinced a reluctant Hunter to dress up too. Hunter, as a little brat, thought dress-up was dumb, but humored his friend by picking a blood-splattered biohazard suit thing lmao

Day 27: step 3 charity outfits Just a lovely drawing of the boys in their suits for the charity moment. Hunter wasn't a member of ORCA, but went to support his bff. Bonus flustered Cove slowly coming to terms with his feelings for his friend~

The last few prompts of the month were about step 4 and the poppy hill and I decided to just kind of combine them all into a big finale piece since by that point it was already November and I was getting burned out pushing out a drawing a day lmao. The finale project is going to take a while, mostly because I decided to be stupid again and try more comic page type stuff. Oh and did I mention my ambitious ass is going to turn the messy traditional art I've done for the finale piece into good digital art? Yeah, don't expect to see the rest of this any time soon haha I have bit off way more than I can chew. 2022 goals I guess.

Anyway, I really liked doing the Inktober event, despite falling off the rails at the end there. I've always been real insecure about my art, so forcing myself to get it out there every day for a whole month is a good push of my limits. And now I know I can whip up a whole traditional drawing in like 5-7 hours if I need to, though I still prefer taking my time haha. Thanks to everyone who has left likes on my previous posts; yall are awesome.

Hi there sweet nonnie! First off, thank you so much for the praise, it's much appreciated since I used to be much more self conscious of my covers and banners. But practice works I guess 😅 I do see though that you sent in another ask and while I regret I couldn't get to you in time to answer, I'm happy to see you found a way on your own!!

That's great actually, and honestly a big part of advice I have to give. I didn't have anyone to show me (at least in the way I needed, many people have helped me loads and I don't want to discredit that) and a lot of the big stuff I learned was stuff I had to learn how to do on my own. Cause a lot of the time, the people we're inspired by have tools we just don't have access to. So you really gotta work with you what you personally have at your disposal. That doesn't mean you can't ask for tips though! I'll still answer for the sake of it, and maybe there's others who are curious, and basically cause you were sweet enough to reach out both times! <3

For the most part, I used to use the canva app. It's free to use and fairly easy to use once you figure out their system. I'll admit it takes some patience but I like that the layers aren't permanent if you mess up if you use something like picsart. That's another one I started using recently, and at this point I'd say those are the two i use the most, but i definitely branch out and try different things if i come across a roadblock. As recently as a month or so ago, I finally started teaching myself digital art on my old surface pro. That's how I got the details on the season 4 poster! And that's only cause I knew that was the only way I was going to get something like that done, without paying money of course 🤣

-> The biggest thing I'd say that's helped me though is just trying my luck at a quick Google search for ___ font generator. That's how I found the stranger things font, which is high demand and the link is right here! And if you can't find one, don't be afraid to be creative!

If you guys actually want a full detailed, pic by pic step on how I make my covers ill happily take the time to make one but for now, I'm actually gonna try and contain myself here 😂 yall know how I get lol anyways, hoped this made sense and thank you again so much! Mostly English, and very minimal French and Spanish from school. But im only really like fluent in English lol

Final 2020 Update: 2021 Goals!!

So some of these may be unrealistic due to my struggles with ADHD/Depression Combo but. I wanted to get these down somewhere so you guys can see them and be aware..

Please note, my executive functioning abilities are absolutely Butchered on the regular by my ADHD alone, and the various stressors of 2020 have absolutely taken anything else I might have had in that department and tossed it out the window.

Something something something, financial stressors outside of my control sends me into shut down mode and I can't do anything productive or even fun until it's handled, but because I'm not doing anything productive, I'm not making any money, and the stressors gets worse and worse and it just ends up in a horrible cycle where I constantly want to die because I'm not able to create anything to relieve the stress! Which is why you've all seen... pretty much a standstill on my productivity save one or two pieces a month if I'm lucky

That said, I'm going to start trying (hopefully with some outside help/accountability to keep me on track while I'm unmedicated) to put a system in place that doesn't make me constantly want to die while like. maybe actually getting stuff done! So I'm making some optimistic goals for 2021 regarding both my art and ability to make money, so here goes!

I'm breaking this down into 3 parts:

Changes to expect regarding my social media, commissions in general, posting, etc;

Overall Goals for 2021;

and Goals for January specifically.

Changes to expect going forward from here:

I'm going to be making some changes regarding my social media accounts, including this one, mostly concerning when, where, and how I'm posting.

I am also going to be making some changes to my commission policies, prices, and payments in the coming year, namely:

Lastly, I will be making some changes to my art discord server!

Moving forward, I am going to be MOST active on my twitter and tumblr accounts. They're just easier for me to maintain in general, and although I hate twitter's formatting, it's just easier and faster, and frankly after deviantART and Instagram fucked with their websites/algorithms, it just makes the most sense for me as an artist.

I'm also going to be making an effort to make scheduled cross-posts on all my accounts. In the past, I've been really irregular about when and where I post things (most things got posted to my old tumblr account but never here, i rarely remember to post to instagram, etc).

This is going to include commission slots, finished piece dumps, etc.

I will also be making an effort to semi-regularly post sketch dumps, both digitial and traditional. I am also considering at this time offering a monthly digital download of my sketch collections, though I am undecided as I'm not really sure how many people would be interested.

Increasing commissions prices to reflect time spent working on specific commission types, as well as my personal cost of living.

Planning and announcing commission slots in advance.

Taking and finishing regular commissions to cover living expenses on a monthly basis

Payments will be exclusively through paypal invoice, and will be broken up in halves: first half will be taken up front after I have started and given proof of start (base sketch), the second half will be paid after completion, with WIPS given between first and second payment. Fully completed art will be given after receipt of second half. This is both for my personal protection as an artist, as well as for the comfort of the commissioner as my completion time can sometimes be long due to my ADHD/executive dysfunction.

Moving forward into 2020, my discord will be SFW, but 18+ only. This is a personal comfort thing. I'm 25 years old now, and just really don't want to spend time hanging out with teenagers.

I'm also going to start trying to schedule art streams again! Since this is the only place I can live stream due to my art computer's limitations, it just makes sense to like. Schedule them so more people are able to attend. I haven't decided exactly how that's going to look, but once I have I'm going to make an announcement and formatting guide somewhere for people to see so they can make an informed decision about joining the server.

I will also be regularly posting in the server again. This may or may not be cross posts from twitter and such, we'll see, but I DO plan on being more active there since it's been kind of dead.

I may also reformat the whole server again. We'll see!

Goals for 2021

Regular Adopt Sets -- 2-3 per month. Size, price, and number in set will be decided on case by case basis.

I'll be doing a monthly prompt for myself as well. This is just to get me back in the habit of creating things I like for myself to just feel... less bad about my art in general, and about making art. Also it'll be good for my artistic development i think?

Keeping a monthly sketchbook for warm-ups and in-between pieces. May be offered as a paid download at the end of the month, we'll see.

Might start a patreon? This is EXTREMELY dependent on what my userbase looks like. Tiers and rewards to be decided at a later date

Regular traditional sketches + scan and upload of said sketches. May also be offered in the monthly sketchbook.

Draw more self portraits & self-expression pieces! I don't know if any of yall realize how repressed I've been in the last year without therapy, and I did't either until I forced myself to pursue a vent piece earlier this month, and then felt immensely better afterward so. Going to start doing that! Maybe I'll feel better weee

Drawing fancontent that ISN'T homestuck? We'll see but I'd like to. I don't usually draw fan art bc like. Idk in my mind I don't feel like my interpretation of things is important or cool and I think thats a confidence thing and I'd like to change that so! I'm gonna start making more fan content.

Draw more full illustrations & backgrounds in general because I actually enjoy doing them it turns out?

Goals for January 2021

Finish at LEAST 1/4 of my art queue. I'm shooting for half, really, because fully completing it might actually kill me but! We'll see! Maybe I'll surprise myself. But I'm setting the goal low to keep my mental health problems in mind.

Finish and release the base set i've been working on, on and off. It's an homage to  the old pixel doll days of 2009-2012, and the full sheet will be free to use (with stipulations, as I have some people blocked that I don't want using it). BUT! There will also be a mix and match .psd that will be pay to use (it'll be pay to use a, bc it'll be huge, and b, bc the edits to make it mix and match results in like 6 seperate bases in general so.... yeah. pay to use)

Finish the pay-to-use base pack i started in june (i may scrap and restart though, we'll see)

Possibly release all old p2u bases of mine in one pack on gumroad? price tbd but it will include old iterations as well as unreleased remakes.

Making some dainty-specific bases! One will be f2u, one will be p2u.

The David Prize, Animation, Comics, and Storytelling from Forgotten New Yorkers

Hey everyone, I’ve got exciting news for those of you keeping track of the creation of my working title comic book ‘Story of 27′. For starters, as some might remember I didn’t get to reach the intended goal to really get the ball rolling and thus, life and the finances of living in New York city as an Afro-Indigenous low income citizen had me needing these resources in dire time of having to move. So fast forward to now, I’m still trying to get this book out to yall, digitally or otherwise. By all the circumstances I should really be trying to secure some long term finances for my new born child (10 months now) and generational wealth. So in that regard I hope that this following venture might help pave that.. with your help. What I’m attempting to create is not just an inclusive animation studio but a place that can set those in need on the right career path of art, media and being able to sell the products of their labor without having to cater to oppressive systems of abuse like the kind that frequent POC communties and the LGBTQ communities within. Wait Ken but how does an animation studio fit into a story your were gonna tell through comic books? I’m still creating the comic book in its originally thought of medium but the animation studio would be the next step since the story itself was supposed to be an animated film in the likeness of Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (in that there was very little dialogue if any but heavily based on speaking through music). I’d likely create the comic book through this studio, publish it, then use the comic book as storyboard for the film I wanted to make which is what a lot of studios are doing to help facilitate the process. My hope is that the comic book can build a readership into viewership with the help of ‘The David Prize’, which I’ll explain further.

So think of the comic book as a storyboard we’ll all get to read about and then if all goes as planned, an animated film using voices of all types of New Yorkers even folks who would have otherwise not have that chance (like homeless New Yorkers or folks in shelters who would like to give their voice for that cause and in return or in general we’d create toons and media for the poor at low to no cost - and considering how making a few seconds of animation will run hundreds if not thousands of dollars it admittedly wont be an easy feat).

As I had also mentioned I want to first publish a free digital comic book prelude to ‘Story of 27’ called ‘Tail of The Unlikely’ for those who have been waiting so patiently for me to publish something. Trust, I want me to get this done too but life stay slowing things down on that for the better. The more you wait the better the story is cause I’m always learning from yesterday and include that into my stories. Enter ‘The David Prize’, it’s a fairly new prize of $200k to 5 New Yorkers with a vision to help make New York a better place. The prerequisite is having a focus for New York’s growth as a city. I figured this was up my alley and I’ve yet to get to where I’d like to be in terms of production movement on my comic book with the newest member to the family among other life duties. I’m now somewhere I have more cultural knowledge and historical awareness of some factors that make me feel glad I hadn’t created the book sooner in how awesome these inclusions will be.

This makes me excited about this prize because I know with your help as well as suggestions and hands on assistance we can make our own all inclusive animation power house in New York. One where everyone, especially the poor, disabled, POC communities and their LGBTQ equals are welcome and given a chance to work on some media that truly exemplifies a decolonized art movement by way of animation. I’ve never seen this here or much elsewhere so it would be worth trying this in NYC. If this sounds interesting at all to yall, feel free to nominate me for the prize so I can make this a reality for us. With this place made, I might even be able to provide emergency housing assistance (if the city allows it - this likely requires extra licensing and time) to homeless LGTBQ folks which sadly are far too many in the city that many times ignores them.

I’d also like yall to know that my sister has been searching for years now on the housing market to own her own place, a building, to leave some generational wealth to her daughters which I respect. With her current knowledge of the housing market I really think if we brainstormed with some appointed folks that I can trust or work in social justice we can figure out how to use our knowledge and resources to provide for people in need.

Similarly through that space, we can have multifunctionality by also providing a space where the future and present of art and media can flourish through animation. Am I being too hopeful with tryina create this? I think with enough support we can make this a realty.
