Bachelors and what kind of ~dere they would be

A/N: I thought this would be something cool to write headcanons for especially because I've played through the Sebastian yandere mod and have watched vids on the others being yanderes. Personally I feel as if some of them don't really fit the yandere category and others would fit them more.

Tw: none as far as i know. Does sort of spoil one of Sam's heart events and a game event.

Word count: at least 10 bullet points per character

Sebastian

Kuudere

Describes as often plays it cool and even in the most stressful situations they're calm and collected. They never panic and often remain distant and analytical until the end.

I feel like Sebby doesn't often show his emotions, especially because he seems introverted.

But the thing is he doesn't seem like the shy uwu scared of people introverted he's more of a voluntary introvert and just prefers being along but has no problem interacting with people

So for that I'm saying he's more the type to always be calm around the person he likes, never making his feelings obvious and never treating them any different than he would treat anyone he sees as a friend.

Kinda reminds me of an anime scene(I forgot the name but its space themed)

Of where the girl basically confesses her feelings and calls the guy an idiot after they talk about what they plan for the future and she says her dream is to become his wife and why can't he see that

And his reaction is basically ? I thought we were already together what?

And she's like ???? You've never made it clear that you like me and he's like yeah didn't think that i had to? I thought we were already together.

He gives off those vibes.

I also feel as though if he did open up it would be in a nonchalant way, it wouldn't be dramatic or romantic I think he would just be stating his feelings as facts.

And I feel like people often forget that this man is a huge nerd and super smart at least in my opinion

I mean he codes from home and plays dnd.

Even if he isn't a robotics and super science nerd like Maru is I think he is a smart and rather analytical person. I don't think he would be on the emotional side of things

If you get together he doesn't change much but does show his affection through touch and acts of service rather than his words.

Harvey

Dandere

Described as shy, quiet, and asocial is most situations. Stays quiet to avoid conflict

I feel as even though he's the town doctor he doesn't have many friends

Like he's only close to Maru bc she works for him in the clinic

And we usually see him hanging out alone or in his room looking at planes and stuff

I feel as though if he developed feelings for you either you would notice right away with how weird he acts around you or you wouldn't notice at all because you assume he's quiet with everyone unless its medically related.

So maybe not shy but quiet does describe him.

Obviously he opens up around you little by little the more you interact with him but it takes a lot of effort on both if your parts

On yours you have to consistently bother him and talk to him which is a lot of work especially when its not reciprocated at first

And on his he has to allow himself to be vulnerable and open with a person, its even harder when you feel romantic feelings for that person because what if they don't really like you in that way or they decide they don't like you after getting to know you

Very sweet man when you get together, still quiet but in a more comfy way.

Shane

Tsundere

Described as hostile and cold on the outside and sweet and kind on the inside

And I feel like that exactly describes Shane

While he is an alcoholic(recovering or not based on how you see him and play the game)He is very sweet even if not to people other than you(once you get to know him), jas, and his chickens.

Does seem like the type that once he starts feeling things for you he would start helping in small ways but also tries to not make it obvious

Oh he sees you walking from the woods with a big ass bag of fiber rocks and wood?

He'll offer to carry it if you need help

Sees you out and about in town, asks what you're up to and if you need help with anything

But don't think that he'a doing this because he likes you

He doesn't he just wants to pay back the kindness you've given to him back to you so he doesn't owe you anything

Ends every sentence to you with stupid or idiot if it allows without seeming genuinely mean

Does really like you and slowly starts showing you that once you show you aren't going anywhere

Does still get incredibly flustered when you do something sweet for or to him

Though if you get together is more open with his affection.

Elliott

Yandere

Described as a person that is very loving and affectionate to their loved one until it becomes a constant obsession leading them to become overprotective, violent, and psychotic towards anyone they deem a threat to their loved one, even the loved one themself

First of all his yandere mod was the scariest one yet like ooof

And while he does not seem like a violent person

He is a writer, which means he is some sort of delusional, creative, and or imaginative that I think he could have a mental break and carry out the things he imagines.

We see that due to him being a writer, he is basically a hermit because all he does is stay in his cabin and write all day

Like yeah he's friends with Leah but how often do you think he actually leaves his home seeking interaction?

I feel like he would meet you and then suffer from a writers block and its your fault because now all he can think about is you

You're his muse

And due to that he becomes obsessive over you, no one else can have you he needs you at the very least more than they do.

Would 1000 percent stalk you, in his mind he's just watching over you to make sure nothing happens to you

Whether that be in town, on your farm, in the mines...he has to keep you closeby.

Speaking as a writer that does get very obsessed with things to the point of me changing what i write about and how often I think about or daydream about it

I think he is the most likely candidate for this kind of 'love' towards a person

Your imagination can delude your thinking, paired with living in a cabin alone with only your thoughts and silence it's no wonder he would be slightly insane.

Sam

Bakadere

Described as clumsy, stupid, and lacking in common sense when dealing with things in their life, but also very optimistic, and having a carefree, child-like innocence.

While this may seem like I'm roasting him I'm not

I do think he sometimes seems clumsy or dumb or even maybe like a teen especially because he's just playing guitar or skateboarding or playing video games

But there are glimpses of him being responsible and caring

Like how he actually had a job, even if it's part time

Or during his heart event when Vincent asks if their dad is going to come home before we find out that he indeed does come home

He covers his true feelings with optimism and happiness even if he's worried, which makes me think he fits this.

He only wants his loved one to be happy, and while constant optimism may seem or be annoying so certain people, he wants to be that light in your life.

And because he's so optimistic he is naturally kinder to others, while others like Sebastian, Shane, or Haley are standoffish when you meet them, Sam is sweet and is happy to meet you which translates well into getting to know you and then shifting into a romantic relationship

So while he may seem dumb to others, even to you with how positive he's being he's actually far from it even if he is a little reckless and clumsy sometimes

He turns down the constant optimism after getting together, but never stops being positive towards you, no matter if you succeed or fail, he's there to pick you up again with kind words and unwavering support.

Also Bakadere

but for a totally different reason

the dude is basically a himbo, though some of the things he says can be seen as iffy or mysogynistic

im pretty sure he doesn't mean any of it though, and while he can come off as dumb and out of touch he is shown to be sweet and caring and using his frat boy persona as a way of keeping people at an arms length

due to that i see him as similar but different to Sam

both boys seem kind of dumb, annoyingly optimistic, and sort of innocent in a way.

and both boys tend to use that as a surface personality, and until you actually take time to know them(Sam's worries, Alex's background and current worries) they seem like the type of people to be positive in any situation

Also seems as if he would take on a leader role simply because everyone voted for him to be it because of his positivity.

another thing is how certain(though inside he's not as) that he will become a gridball player.

Like the dude only talks positively about his dreams and is constantly working towards his goal

as well as we see in his dialogue that the farmer does indeed sometimes get annoyed at his words such as when he says things like "what why're you looking at me like that"

exactly as an anime character in this role would do.

Though after marriage is still sorta a dummy which is low key kinda cute.

Who are people you think Ganso could possibly fall for?

It's really tough to say.

In my head, his trigger goes one of two ways:

One, he probably would like damsel-in-distress types that he can save, but more importantly ones that he can help make a better life for after they're safe.

Two, on the other hand, I think he'd have more respect and admiration for someone who can hold their own and seeks to help others as he does.

His ass would loooove someone like Princess Peach I bet lmfao.

Anyway, I think something that stops me from figuring out who he'd like is the fact that I feel as though he'd end up liking people who have no interest in him, consistently, as a gag almost. But when I think about that possibility too much I'm all like, noooo he deserves mutual love.......... His options however, as far as main characters go at least, are kinda slim.

I think there'd be a point where he crushes on Foxglove, but it'd be very short lived given Foxglove's asocial attitude, and the fact that she secretly does a lot of fucked up shit. Plus, Foxglove would have no interest in him.

He'd probably get a kick out of someone like Tim, who wants to do right by people and has no fear or worry diving into danger, but. I don't think Tim would be interested either.

Funny enough I think Caela would find herself liking him at some point, especially after what happens with Ching & his hosting, but El Ganso would be entirely opposed given her treatment of others, and the fact that they have nothing in common.

See no matter what crosses my mind I just can't see it working....!!!! Maybe I just need to mess around for a while and see what clicks. Or maybe that's just part of his character, one sided connections. Who knows. I want him to find love, but it sure is difficult!

could i get a hunter x hunter match up? im bi but have a heavy preference for men (unfortunately…)

i’m 5’6, have a marilyn monroe/curvy body shape, i wear green bigger framed glasses, i always have a merlot coloured nail polish and lipstick on, and i have long ginger hair. (i dyed it this colour no one come for me saying i don’t have a soul pls)

I laugh at anything and everything so it’s not hard to make me giggle. (does that make me bubbly? i think my friends would disagree)

i’m very blunt and directly to the point. i won’t sugarcoat anything if i wanna say something i’ll say it. and if i don’t like somebody you can tell.

i love music, i can play guitar (electric and acoustic) piano, ukulele, and tin whistle. my favourite artists are taylor swift, noah kahan, madi diaz, and motley crue.

my favourite colours are sage green and a merlot cherry red colour. my favourite movies are dirty dancing and knives out.

my style/aesthetic is 70s/hippie or like a downtown indie 2000s girl there’s no in between im afraid.

i usually always have eyeliner or some form of makeup on and i love being girly and a stereotypical girl. i’m all over that shit.

my tried and true type is emo/punk/metal boys who are taller than me. i love when men have tattoos, and long hair makes me buckle at the knees. (you don’t have to pay attention to this i just thought i’d share…)

hopefully this is enough to give me a matich up because i can’t think of anything else! tysm:)

I'll put the match-up under the cut bc I went ahead and paired you with someone who's pretty late in the anime. So, if you aren't around the chimera ants arc, be very aware that this dude comes from around that time! Read with caution! I also do not have a good recollection of hxh details, so sorry if this isn't accurate lol.

So, I'm real rusty on hunter x hunter match ups, I should probably honestly take it off the list at this point. But, from what I do remember of it is, you'd probably like Kite?

Admittedly there aren't a lot of guys that I can recall that are emo/punk that wouldn't be awful when paired with your blunt nature. The only other option I can think of is Feitan. Who would blow up like a motherfucker at your no-nonesense, bluntness because he too is rather direct and sharp, and you two just seem like you'd fight.

Kite though! Seems the type to appreciate a blunt woman who takes care of herself. Sure, he's asocial, and may be more akin to Hisoka with a stray cat demeanor, but he's not such an ass that your more giggly humor can't endear him to you. After all, he's had a pretty rough time of things it seems, a more humorous partner who can laugh at anything might be able to cheer him up. Plus the only other emo character I can think of is Killua, who is a child lol, or Illumi. So, your type-fitting options are a bit slim in my recollection. But! I hope you don't mind this choice for you!

Hmm I guess I’d like to hear more on why you aren’t fond of Will being universally described as sweaty cuz like I get it but I’m so curious. And maybe some more on like your opinions of his character traits? Like what you think they are and why stuff like that. I’m just genuinely fascinated in knowing.

Also you don’t come off as an avoidant ass, so it’s no worries. The question was pretty vague

I talked about sweaty Will here. And he’s got a lot of traits but I’ll list a few off the top of my head.

I think there is a conflation of empathy and compassion for Will. He is empathetic but not always compassionate. That distinction explains a lot about his choices as a character. I do think he is selfish in that many of the choices he makes is still self-satisfying. Even in season one, I think part of the reason he solves murders is to justify his own feelings about taking a life. He wants to help, not necessarily for the person he is helping, but to balance his morals. He easily decides who is a Bad Guy, and if he can catch the bad guy, it helps alleviate some of his own guilt about also feeling like the bad guy.

I don’t think Will feels nearly as bad about the act of cannibalism as he does about being tricked into it. He realizes Hannibal (the Ripper at the time in early season 2, no one really believed it was Hannibal yet), was eating the “prize” that every serial killer takes. And he had already made the connection that the Ripper was Hannibal, and he quickly put together that he had also consumed human flesh. Yet he is the only character that, after learning of the cannibalism, not only doesn’t care about eating meals with Hannibal again (Bedelia not even eating terrestrial meat, human or animal, and Alana swearing off beer altogether), but he provides his own longpig. Cannibalism doesn’t morally upset him, but being lied to does.

I think Will is more asocial than antisocial. I think he is actually pretty open to human connection, he is just fairly particular on how that comes about. He needs it to feel organic, not forced at all. He wants to feel loved and cared for, but he is also hesitant on showing all of himself. Yet he knows he cannot be truly loved without being completely honest. It’s a constant battle that he struggles with throughout the show, and his needs get met by the end. He is avoidant both to protect those around him and protect himself from rejection.

I think Will is just as likely to adopt a bunch of stray cats as he is dogs. Dogs make sense for the sake of the show; easier to catch wandering around, easier to introduce to an establish pack, “needier”. But I think Will would love all kinds of animals, and I think he would be able to establish a healthy pride of cats. He wouldn’t let them out like he does the dogs, but he would build within his own home to provide enrichment for them. And I know cats would provide the same emotional bond and fulfillment that dogs do. Will likes to feel needed in a way he knows he can provide.

That part of the ep where Stolas thought that Blitzo broke in to fuck him was... cringe...

Like why would he even think that? How am I supposed to belive in realism of this character if instead of thinking that low class demon broke in to steal his things or kill him, Stolas thinks about the most dumb and out of nowhere idea ever. Like what's up with him??? Is he good??? He is such an unrealistic deviant character that I can't take that trash romance seriously. And the fact that he thinks it is normal to harass your love interest and use your royal status to sleep with him?? TF??? And no, he isn't asocial or some shit that fans may make up. It's a grown ass man that has no reason to assume Blitzo broke in to fuck him. WHY WOULD HE EVEN ASSUME THAT TF?

Even the fact that he has a big stupid childhood crush on Blitzo that's incredibly stupid doesn't excuse it. Nobody behaves that way and nothing about these characters feels genuine.

Personality: Asocial, Excitable, somewhat sarcastic, often times is disinterested in others. Loves beauty especially natural beauty (like the beauty in a sunset or a mountain range, but not art), especially fire. Preaches about balance and how about everything affects everything and as such everything must do it’s part.

Appearance: A LizardFolk around the size of a dwarf that wears light armor and a shield wielding a dagger. She has commoner clothes and a necklace with the alchemist symbol of fire.

Stats:

Strength: Medium

Dexterity: High

Constitution: High

Intelligence: Above Average

Wisdom: High

Charisma: Medium

Age: 17

Where did you get your powers? The necessity that beauty has to grow and stay safe.

Title: The Blaze Wielder

Gender/Pronouns: Female. Any/All

Backstory: Jax was always weird, she was a loner that was in love with fire, nobody in her village really cared for her, and she didn't care for them. Eventually she started living alone with her fire, eventually coming to the realization that for fire to live everything else must also live, since then, she has been preaching about balance and how every single thing in life has a a purpose.

Roles: Striker, Blaster and Support.

Conclusion: Wow, a dnd pyromaniac that is actually a compelling character and doesn’t always want to burn things down! It’s actually surprising how little it takes to make it! I originally thought of Jax because I wanted to play a pyromaniac, but that eventually evolved into a character that loves beauty and that prefers to control herself to maintain beauty in the world instead of just letting herself go and burning down in a blaze of glory that ends with just death.

Sorry in advance for my English and my poor vocabolary 👋

We are not 100% sure yet but He Tian appears to be part of a big ass mafia family yet the way he is seen by society it's like he is some precious boy whos going to have a great future, big money, perfect family, perfect job and so on.. he is good looking, he is rich, he has good grades, he is everything society wants him to be. A perfect little soldier. But we all know its just a facade... He Tian himself knows it.

On the other side we have Mo Guan Shan. He is a good person, he is only 15 but he already provides for his family. He works hard to help his mom, he cares about people around him more than he should (see the homeless man accident). But he is poor, his father is in prison and his grades are bad. And society sees him as scum, as not worthy to have a decent future, like he is already doomed. Definietly not a perfect little soldier.

This situation reminded me a lot of Killing Stalking. Not because of the relationship between the two (!!! Do I even need to say it) but because of how the main characters are portraied. Sangwoo is a fucking serial killer yet everyone sees him as perfect. Cause he is good looking. And he is friendly, sociable. Even if someone had accused him of killing someone, nobody would have believed him. Hell, even if they had known he was a killer, nobody would have cared. In fact, the only person who suspects of Sangwoo is seen as crazy. He wasn't even in the police anymore if I remember correctly. And Yoonbon is the opposite. A weirdo, asocial, shy, not exactly the big macho type. Again, not what society wants him to be. Small. skinny. Invisible. In the beginning, does anyone even notice when he disappears?

SO, all this rant is just to say that in 19 days I see a criticism (maybe an unintentional one but it is there) towards society nowadays. In South Korea it is a big issue cause appearence/social status seems to be the only thing that matters to them (I absolutely love South Korea dont get me wrong 🥲) and in Killing stalking is taken to the extreme on purpose but this is an issue that touches all the healthiest countries in the world.

I'm a big fan of cinema, especially asian cinema (first film that comes to my mind cause Ive recently rewatched it, is Kurosawa's Tokyo Sonata) and I see that this issue is addressed all.the.time. In Kdramas you can see it as well. But not because they address the problem but because they are part of the problem (not all of them!).

I don't know I feel like this is a problem to overcome and I'm glad that its talked about in a manhua like 19 days which is supposed to be all fun and fluff.

Being good at math does not make you a good person. School grades should not define your worth in society. Being rich, tall, beautiful and smiling at everyone like a fucking idiot does not make you a good person. He Tian knows that. And you know why he likes Mo Guan Shan so much? Mo is NO FAKE. He sees the real He Tian under all the layers. And He Tian sees Mo for who he really is. Not a delinquent but a good and caring person. When HT is with MGS his smiles are real. Genuine.

"In the future we will understand each other deeply." Thats what He Tian says to MGS and he couldnt be more right.

Ok I feel like I could go on for ages whitout getting anywhere but I hope the point I wanted to make is clear lol 🥲 that said Im glad 19 days exists and I wanted to thank Old Xian for his amazing work. 🙏

Alrighty~ 😊💕

1. give short descriptions of all your current WIPs.

I'll try, haha. I have a lot tbh, but I'll stick to MysMe and the Rifters/MysMe crossover. These will also only be the ones I've actually started writing, not just the ideas I have jotted down.

Let's see... in regards to Saeran and his alters...

- super fluffy introspection-type fic

- comfort fic (reader is the one being comforted)

- playful revenge and flustered Saeran

- Unknown's an asshole but we love him

- SE's a little possessive and confused but he's doing his best

As for Saeyoung... oh boy. So many. Um...

- playful banter and tickling

- Seayoung wants attention and will do whatever it takes to get it

- a series of connected one-shots (it's not quite a full story, nor do I have plans to make it one) that are low-key self-inserts but are still "x reader" (in other words, it's how I think things might go down if someone like me was in MC's place)

- artist reader and tomato boy Seven

- comfort fic (also a "self-insert" in regards to the issue the reader faces) related to adhd struggles and asking for help

- sparring session gone wrong in more ways than one

- time lord MC takes our boy Saeyoung to see the stars up close :)

As for the crossover!! Which takes place after Seven's route and the SEs...

- Rigby, via her connections and job, takes down the twins' rat bastard of a biological father + some focus on their relationship, as well as a look into a past assignment at her agency (short series)

- Seven taking way too much delight in having a tsundere as a girlfriend partner

- a bit of an angsty/humorous fic (probably in 2 or 3 parts) about how things went down in the apartment

2. give short descriptions of all the main characters for [WIP]

Hm... I suppose I'll talk about Rifters... but extremely briefly because I'll overwhelm myself otherwise lol.

Rigby - an asocial protective wildchild doing her best. is feral. can and will kick your ass.

Vasyl - soft boy who likes animals a little too much. seriously. wants to adopt everything.

Amara - liked at school by pretty much everyone cos she's the friendly type. can host both a wild party and a elegant ball. also an absolute chemistry nerd.

Ryder - a nice child. wants to help people. doesn't know what he's doing half the time. terrible instincts but things tend to work out okay.

13. describe your writing style.

It kinda varies tbh. I prefer 3rd pov (or 2nd, for reader inserts), and I love weaving the main character's bias/opinions/vague thoughts into the narrative. It's fun hehe. Narrative/descriptive parts can sound rather formal/proper, or borderline. I'm also a sucker for figurative language, even sometimes in regular conversation (which some of you might have noticed).

I try to balance my dialogue between realistic and smooth/straight-forward enough to read easily. Dialogue sections tend to have a different feel than my primarily descriptive sections, mostly because I drop some of the formal feel. And that happens because, as I get into the dialogue, I fall more in line with the character's thoughts, rather than the narrator's, and so that's usually when more biased language appears in the descriptions.

I hope this made sense lol, I had half of this last section already written a couple days ago and added the rest just now.

darling: for yandere songs, have you heard of the major to minor covers by chase holfelder :O? the way he delivers the lyrics in some songs (betty, all i want for christmas), added with the key changes to minor, is really fantastic, and gives a stalker-ish vibe imo! and he's a really good singer in general

vanya: i have!! a good chunk of them are actually on my personal yandere playlist, so i end up hearing them frequently when i’m writing!! i haven’t been keeping up with his uploads recently, so ‘betty’ is completely new to me and just, wow???????????? this man is an absolute god send for us “romantic” horror fans... ♡

(Rough) summary of the last NatsuYuu arc

Featuring chapters 106 and 107, “Visiting a late friend”.

Note that my japanese isn’t the best, so i might have misunderstood some things.

Also: my own personal notes are in cursive.

In chapter 106 Natsume takes the wrong bus home after going to some far town (if i remember correctly Touko had asked him to run an errand or smth). Yorishima gets on that same bus and after seeing each other (they were like the only ones in the bus) they start chatting. If i remember correctly, Yorishima had offered to show him the correct bus/way home, but he was on his way to return a book to an old friend (named Kusakabe) he used to exchange letters with who had already passed away, so Natsume offers to accompany him.

We get some more insight into Yorishima’s character, how he’s pretty grumpy, asocial and a shut in. If i remember correctly, in the book he was going to deliver, which was one that Natori retrieved from his mansion in the Miharu arc, he found a letter where Kusakabe told him to go visit him someday.

When they get to the house of Yorishima’s old friend, they are greeted by his 3 beautiful daughters AND feel a weird presence in the house.

The chapter ends with Yorishima telling Natsume that Kusakabe only had 2 daughters, not 3.

Chapter 107 (later part) starts with one of the letters Kusakabe wrote to Yorishima, where he talks about how he can hear his daughters (note: 娘, musume) played despite having told them to being quiet as he was writing. He also notes how he likes it when it’s lively, and contrasts it with Yorishima’s hypothetical reaction.

The daughters (who are all a bit weird and very pushy) talk a bit about Yorishima and how much their father used to talk about him. Once they leave the room, Yorishima and Natsume discuss how one of them might be an ayakashi, as he is sure Kusakabe had always wrote in his letters about only 2 daughters.

Yorishima starts cursing about how nothing good happens whenever he leaves his house and apologizes to Natsume for dragging him into such a mess. Natsume then realizes he feels like his old self, and reassures him that going all this way for his friend is a very important thing and he'll tag along, for Kusakabe's sake, and mentally adds for Yorishima’s sake too. Natsume then kicks Nyanko-sensei outta the room and tells him to go investigate which daughter might be the imposter (since he was just eating cake and being an ass lol).

Natsume asks if there’s lead to tell apart the fake one, but Yorishima says that none of them resemble Kusakabe physically, although their mannerisms sometimes do.

AND WE GET A FLASHBACK OF THEIR COLLEGE TIME.

In it, Kusakabe tells Yorishima (after failing to feed him an onigiri) about how he should have also gone watch the meteor shower, how pretty it was etc and how the stars seemed to go and fall from all directions, to which Yorishima was like bruh how could that be and if it wasn’t perhaps a tanuki or ghost playing a prank on him. Kusakabe says that maybe that was the reason why the rest didn’t seem to react to it, but that was all the more reason why it would have been merrier if Yorishima had been with him.

Yorishima immediately tells Kusakabe that he should confess to Kyouko-san already and that he actually would have wanted to see the meteor shower with her instead, leaving the other quite dumbfounded as meddling into other’s affairs (or even caring) was pretty out of character of him. Yorishima just answers that if his roommate is being a pain he won’t get peace either so he should be done with his business. He also tells him that he’s a good man, so there’s no way he’ll get rejected.

~end of flashback~

After that we get a 4 pages Nyanko-sensei pov of spying on the girls, who start acting all creepy, making him freaks out and run away.

The last page has a letter from Yorishima to Kusakabe, in which he thanks him for the last letter and congratulates him, saying he was surprised when he learned about his 2 daughters.

Back to Yorishima and Natsume, Yorishima seems to hold his arm, making Natsume worry and ask if it doesn’t hurt (thinking to himself that it’s the rumored ayakashi arm, and wonders if it’s really true) but the other says he was just deep in thought. They discuss about the daughters again, saying that if they look like kusakabe, what similarities they have etc. Since they dont look alike natsume asks if they dont look like the wife then, but Yorishima says he actually doesn’t know about the wife, neither name nor face. He never got to meet her, as he never met Kusakabe after college again. He says that Kusakabe wrote whatever came to mind in his letters and never got to tell him about getting married not his daughters being born, but mentions that he used to date a girl called Kyouko when they were in college. He says that they looked very happy and (not sure of the jp wording here) just looking at each other/at them? made them blush.

Natsume assumes that that must have been his wife then, but Yorishima says that she had died in an accident. He talks about how Kusakabe used to be pretty depressed after it, but since he didn't want to make Kyouko sad he came back to his usual self eventually. Still, he didn’t date anyone after that, that’s why he was very surprised when reading the letter talking about his daughters. Knowing that he was able to form a family, after everything that happened, made him so happy he started trembling.

Nyanko-sensei interrupts them and cries a bit about how the girls were Too Much. After that, the lights go off and Yorishima runs to check that the girls are ok. He starts mildly gay panicking bc he doesn’t want anything bad to happen to his friend’s house. He says to himself that it would have been better if Kusakabe had at least told him how his daughters were called, and remembers the note in the book asking him to come pay a visit someday.

He runs into the youkai and asks who is she, to which she replies that she is kusakabes daughter. Yorishima says that he only had 2 so that's not possible but she says that Kusakabe just never got to tell him about the 3rd (among us voice kinda sus). She tells him that if he catches her she'll tell him the full story. While chasing for her, he starts shouting that it’s Kusakabe’s house, even if he passed away, saying in his mind “isn’t anywhere anymore”, it’s the house of his dear friend, and he won’t forgive her if she tries to do something to his beloved daughters.

He catches the youkai and: turns out all the daughters were DOLLS.

Apparently, Kusakabe bought 2 dolls at an antique shop and when writing the letter, he used the word musume, which can mean either daughter or simply young girl. The daughters say he had realized that Yorishima misunderstood and thought he meant biological daughters, but decided to play along and keep using musume when talking about them. And so, when Yorishima visited him, he would learn the truth. He looked forward to when he would come and find out. That’s why the dolls decided to carry on with that wish, and tell him about how fun and merry Kusakabe’s time there had been.

(Here comes the part where I’m not really sure about some things, and I’m not sure either what they are referring to Exactly so I might have misinterpreted it.)

The dolls say they were actually upset at him for never once visiting Kusakabe, but that seeing his arm they understand he couldnt come. Then, Natsume thinks to himself "to his dear friend... (deepl translation:) in the midst of all the bewitchment...". Yorishima here regrets not being more sincere in his replies to the many letters Kusakabe sent because he thinks that’s probably why he stopped sending them (i think?),and the daughters ask him if he knows why he died. When Yorishima says he heard he died of illness, they say: "yes, the reason is similar to yours (that i understand maybe i read it wrong). he simply stopped sending letters when he lost the strength in his handwriting". (when he didnt have enough strenght to write properly basically, bc that’s shittily worded). Here they show that Kusakabe told his daughters that Yorishima is very intelligent and his own handwriting was very strong and beautiful, so he would notice and get weird worries.

The daughters then say that there are a lot of letters he never got to send.

In one of those letters, he writes Yorishima that he had ordered a new doll for his daughters, so it seemed like his house would become even more lively (and also something about a job but idk if it refers to the doll or smth else). A sepparate bubble shows: “one day, when you come...”.

With the book being returned, the daughters have then acomplished their mission. When they leave Natsume wonders what will they do from now on. Here Natsume wonders about Yorishima’s regrets, the reason why he couldnt pay a visit to his friend, and his own duty with the book of friends.

Yorishima thanks Natsume for his helps and Natsume says its a good thing he came to see him (aka Kusakabe). He is holding the book open, and as the wind makes the pages flip one last note, with a pretty shaky handwriting ,appears between them. Natsume asks what does it say.

Yorishima says that it just says as usual, just some foolish things.

Game of the Week

I want to start a new series of posts, game(s) of the week/month/year. Since I’m broke as all hell I don’t really have the money to buy new I rarely play new releases so I just feel like this is a good opportunity to bring attention to under appreciated shit. I’ll cover one game every week, 2-4 games every month and all games that had a profound impact on me every year (or just shit I loved, I don’t think Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fits the “profound impact” category).

Game of the Week December 21st-27th 2020: The World Ends With You (DS)

Although I’m not 100% finished TWEWY (i’m literally on the final boss but godamn final form megumi is a pain in the ass) this is definitely one of my favourite games of all time. I adore the combat style even if I’m nowhere near coordinated enough to control Neku and his partner at the same time. It’s just really fun, no battle feels cheap, even the one when I suddenly had to use microphone controlled pins works because it only happens once (as far as I know) and it’s just a fun thing as long as you’re remembering to save regularly. Also I’m garbage at Tin Pin but as someone who never got Bay Blades as a kid because I’m a girl but always wanted Bay Blades, god it’s cool. Also, unrelated but, this game looks REALLY nice for a DS game from 2007. A lot of the special fights are really fun too, I really loved how Yashiro and Karyia could do a fusion they’re possibly my favourite characters so that just, YES. As someone who is typically extremely asocial Neku’s arc really speaks to me, same with the things Mr. Hanekoma told Neku.

Spoilers Under the cut (for TWEWY and Danganronpa)

This game just really spoke to me, I haven’t been as upset as I was when Rhyme died over a video game in a while. I loved how even though Beat is a fucking idiot he isn’t treated as a joke. Being smart and having direction aren’t the only things that make someone valuable or good and I think we all need to remind ourselves of that. It’s very easy to get invested in all the characters, even minor ones like Sota and Nao (the two players during week two who were a couple) and Mina and Ai (the two girls who had an argument about Ai’s crush on Makoto) I got really attached to. Every time someone gets erased it hurts, when 777 got erased I felt it, when Sota and Nao got erased I felt it. Some games just really can’t say the same even about their major characters. For example, Danganronpa is one of my favourite games but the only deaths that really evoked as much emotion in me as when Rhyme died and when I thought Joshua died were Sakura, Mahiru, Chiaki, Monomi, Kaede, Tenko, Kaito and Gonta, sure it’s a larger number but that’s a lot more misses than hits compared to TWEWY.

I played this game in my quest for LGBT rep that isn’t shit but it turned out to be so much more than that and honestly I’m disappointed I didn’t get into this game sooner.

For gameplay I’d give this game 7/10. It would probably be a six if the gameplay didn’t play into the themes so strongly because god it’s a pain in the ass when I can’t coordinate both screens for shit so I leave Shiki/Joshua/Beat to autoplay and they fucking die, like no I don’t want the game to be easy or anything and maybe I’m just an idiot but I don’t think humans are supposed to be that good at multitasking. I love the pins and clothing idea and when I do manage to make the dual character thing work it is so much fun (I finally got the hang of Neku and Joshua right on the last day of week 2 and I will never not be mad about that and fight with Konishi was a ton of fun) this is more of a fault to the hardware too but I’m not the biggest fan of combat based around the touch screen even though I think TWEWY did an amazing job.

I’d give the story a 9/10, it’s really fuckin good but you should really experience it for yourself, it’s hard to explain in words.

I’m very much late to the party, but I’ve been holding onto this for an Absurdly Long Time I just want to get this out there

My Take on this AU: Ladybug!Nath and Chat!Juleka (Crimson and Chatoire)

** first things first, no ladynoir. but there will be Fun Shenanigans between the Nathmarc/Julerose ships :3

1. Marinette realises it’s way too risky to be both Ladybug AND the Guardian (Hawkmoth then would get two birds with one stone, yikes) and

2. I have no idea how to iron this out chronologically but I imagine that Chat Blanc took place in this universe, so Ladybug already has her reservations

- So she assumes the Turtle Miraculous like Master Fu did (I’d like to think that the Guardians automatically assume the Turtle Miraculous, again, idk how canon this is) and has to decide on her newest LB and CN

- SO back to the class, Lila’s still a bitch but some now have their doubts

- BOOM this is where our MCs come in, Nath and Jules

- For Nathaniel, considering he spends a lot of time with Marc (and I don’t believe the other classes take Lila’s BS) he just eventually started realising, it’s not like he pays much attention to what she says anyway

- For Juleka, it’s a bit harder considering Rose, but she’s the invisible quiet kid and that comes with being pretty observant and I HC that she suspects Lila of lying but plays along for Rose (wasn’t harming anyone till Mari)

- At some point, they both apologise to Mari but explain how they themselves feel like they wouldn’t do much damage (quiet kids, Not Good With People) and Mari’s understandably feeling quite ō)-(ō

- but she does need the support so she forgives them

- since it’s post-chat blanc, LB and CN do manage to take down Gabriel and Nathalie, but the miraculouses end up stolen again (by Guess Who)

- yeah Lila’s now HM, or Venfalla, and she’s more unforgiving on the strength of akumas (I’d like to think that her sheer force of will and just sitting around helps prolong the usual “5min” timer)

- regarding superhero logistics, Marinette reveals herself as the guardian to Nathaniel for miraculous recruiting times, not sure about Juleka yet

- otherwise, I do have ideas for a mini arc where Jules does get a little fed up with constantly being kept out of the Miraculous loop

- give me that sweet sweet Art Club friendship please, it transcends Lila’s shit (Rose is just optimistic about her nature and Alix believes her but not to such a detrimental state)

- Their first fight? Terrible. Asses were handed to them all the way. As two quiet and pretty asocial kids, they didn’t really know how to adjust to communicate with some superhero they just met

- They overcome that hurdle and that’s where Character starts to Show

- Crimson, like LB, is much more focused at the task at hand yet also is constantly on the watch for others’ safety (civilians, etc.) Lots of busy traffic in his head, and also a nibbling anxiety from LB’s shadow still cast over Paris (imposter syndrome woo!)

- Chatoire is the Heart, and like Crimson looks out for others but also, looks out for Crimson himself. She opens up eventually and tries to humor Crimson and lighten the situation (though having a much more morbid sense of humor does miss the point sometimes)

- Also in their follow first few fights, Chat has to deal with the akuma alone while Crimson runs off trying to figure out the lucky charm or recruit new allies. she does get fed up at times but they work through communication issues eventually. (neither of them are used to talking this much)

also some possible angst below the cut but yes! welcome to my world! I’m planning to slowly release all the doodles/short bits of unbeta-ed writing I have for this :D look out for that!

** disclaimer: I have not read other people’s takes on these hero pairings to try to make mine as,,, me as possible. So if any similarities crop up, it’s purely coincidental.

- nath’s absolutely terrified. following in the steps of an ultimate superheroine as a newbie with all eyes on your every move is quite stressful

- on the opposite end of the spectrum, Jules feels constantly overshadowed and sometimes feels just as invisible as her civilian self. also some intrusive thoughts of oh god do they hate me.

- Secret superhero work takes some toll on their relationships, though idk how to write it out without being overly angsty.

Make a collage of characters that summarise what you headcanon your MC to be like.

And up there we have:

Rosa Diaz! She has the same outward demeanor as Lua, most of the time: Stoic, calm, quiet and asocial, but very perceptive. Lua doesn’t express his emotions very well, and absolutely loathes the idea of absolutely sharing them, or opening up to other people, but he softens up over time. His friends know he loves them all, but they all agree that he scares the shit out of them. Also, both Rosa and Lua have a fondness for leather jackets.

“Joker,” the protagonist of Persona 5! Joker has the same quiet, unassuming demeanor that I imagine Lua had in Year 1, in addition to the same idea of him being outcast by his classmates due to rumours surrounding him (or, more to fit Lua’s situation better, rumours surrounding Jacob). Despite all that, though, he has a knack for making the strangest of friends, from delinquent troublemakers, to tired and under appreciated faculty members, or even strange magical creatures. And get along with all of them, and in some cases, get them to work together. And of course, they’re both more rebellious than they let on, and have a lot of anger and resentment that they keep bottled up to avoid getting in any more trouble. But when they get a chance to let loose, they absolutely relish in it. Also, Joker’s design was meant to be remniscient of a cat, described as him being “deceptively docile, elegant, hiding mysteries,” and “the fact that he often wanders through town like a stray cat.”

Speaking of cat motifs, we have here: An Actual Cat! Ever since I got the idea from the animagus quest, I’ve been writing Lua as having several catlike tendencies, because I like the idea that an animagus might have traits from their animal form transition over to their human form. Lua is particularly quiet and curious, michievous to a fault, tends to be a bit of an ass even if he loves you dearly, and yes, he knocks things off of tables when he’s annoyed. He’s easily distracted by laser pointers. Also, whenever he’s hugged or cuddled, people swear he tends to purr.

all those scrooge and donald’s bonding moments were wholesome and funny (i loved them with all my freaking heart is2g they having a better relationship is my fuel to keep living lmao) but there is still some things that are hanging on even after scrooge definition of family that is obviously about them so lets start

1. scrooge choosing donald immediately and ‘i was in the will?’ moment

after going awwww when scrooge excitedly goes around screaming game night and he immediately chooses donald and laughing my ass off because donald’s ‘i was in the will?’ line, all that got me thinking because i cant stop my overanalyzing ass lmao. why did scrooge choose donald and why was donald surprised to be in the will? the overcompetitive nature of scrooge answered the first one really fast, scrooge chose him, as always, because it benefits him for reasons, reinforced by the threat of them losing and removing him of the will, more than because he wanted them to bond over board games. this is actually not that weird for scrooge, he usually does this a lot, especially to donald. i actually have problems with this more because of the actual status of their relationship more than because scrooge did this, this will be explained with the next point so i will go with my second question.

why was donald surprised? there are two possible answers for this: 1. donald didnt ever really thought about the will matter, the theme is new to him so hes surprised 2. donald didn’t think scrooge cared enough for him to be in the will so hes surprised when he actually is. i will be expanding in the second one because donald could have thought various things from this:

1. he could have thought that because of scrooge’s greedy nature, the possibility of him having a will was nonexisting, he wouldn’t want his fortune to be someone else’s even after death, even when real scrooge would consider that a waste, the possibility of anyone being in scrooge’s will is a big ‘wait what’ to him 2. his board is the one getting everything lmao theyre the ones handling all those business stuff and that whats matter to scrooge, so why would anyone else be in the will? 3. if someone from the family was meant to be scrooge’s heir, it wouldnt be him, it would be only della, the twin that scrooge favored the most. definitely not him, the twin that scrooge reprimanded and dismissed the most. him? in the will? wtf? scrooge couldn’t care enough about him to put him in the will. but he does and whoa, wait what i am???? donald didn’t think scrooge would care, and that makes sense, this scrooge is terrible at really showing donald he cares about him outside from fighting and using him as bait. so, donald is surprised.

the good thing is, i actually see this version of scrooge having everyone in his will: the twins, the triplets (especially louie, hes probably his principal heir at this point lmao), webby, mrs beakley, launchpad, matilda (if shes alive), his parents (who are kind of immortal now?) even gladstone, fethry or grandma duck (if shes alive). leaving them all a special thing that would help them in some way, something with meaning for every person. especially to the twins, who are like his children. another good thing, scrooge is starting to show donald that he cares, enough to put him in the will and i hope this progress in scrooge showing him that he cares about him more than he actually shows him.

bonus: scrooge running stairs down with donald was precious and funny. 10/10. not bad, scrooge was just so excited. so cute.

2. ‘that’s why he chose him’, charades and non-verbal communication, understanding donald, and acting nonsensical moment.

‘ooooh, thats why he picked donald’, dewey just confirmed my suspicions about scrooge’s motivation for choosing donald, it saddens me but i expected it. again, not because scrooge did this because of his competitive strike but because he hasnt show donald that he would choose him even if he couldnt get something out of it. i want more scrooge respecting donald for who he is more than for what he can get out of him. i need scrooge choosing donald because he is family too cuz almost all the time he only chooses him for benefits. like overall, scrooge probably plays favoritism with the twins over anyone else in the family, but with the twins themselves? he favors della over donald, in an over ridiculous open way, he is really not trying to hide it. like, he recriminates donald for not being like della in the ‘17 comics? how fucked up is that? i try not to use the comics’ standpoint of their relationship because it upsets me honestly, they glorified della too much and abused donald too much. maybe because theyre from scrooge’s view of point? hes always going around talking about how great della was but donald? the series at least says that donald is actually freaking good, strong, smart and sharp and deserves the fandom getting over the top for him. the comics well….u know. but the thing is, the comics actually explain why donald is so surprised every time scrooge shows him affection or why donald looks not surprised when scrooge just uses him as a decoy, like bruh :/

‘you spent thirty years guessing what donald was saying, you must get good enough at non-verbal communication’ donald and scrooge are, not-so-surprisingly, good at charades (della must be too, now that i think about it, if scrooge and donald are almost unstoppable then the twins are really hardcore about it), this comes from donald having a speech impediment, something that probably led him to use a lot of non-verbal communication in the past. kids with especially difficult speech impediments to deal with rely heavily on non-verbal communication, usually because they develop social anxiety, insecurities and are overall scared of not being understood and being punished for it, especially outside of their safe circle (bullying, indifference, little to none social circle). baby donald probably suffered from this (who am i kidding, he definitely suffered from it, hell, donald is the most suffering classical disney character honestly the old comics are not even subtle about him being mentally ill and disabled), these kids can even stop altogether talking even to the ppl they know can understand them. all this comes into play if we assume that scrooge hanged with the twins since they were kids. hortense or not, grandma duck or not, scrooge spent time with the twins like he spends it now with the triplets. donald is not the most confident person, since he was a kid, for a good reason, he probably didn’t talk a lot as a kid with ppl outside his safe circle, scrooge comes to play later into his life so hes probably an outsider at the start of their relationship. but adventure needs communication for teamwork and to keep kids safe out there you need to be able to understand them and they need to understand you. this left scrooge with only an option: learn to understand donald, no matter what method he uses. charades? scrooge understands. ASL? scrooge understands. unintelligible gibberish? SCROOGE UNDERSTANDS! wow, hello, lost confidence.

that probably boosted donald’s confidence quite greatly. an outsider, uncle scrooge that is grumpy and kind of asocial, gave the effort to understand little scared and unintelligible donald that probably only his twin and parents until now could understand perfectly. if that didnt bust his confidence idk what could. points for scrooge for being a great uncle!

for all this, he hasn’t told donald he doesn’t understand him because he does understand him, almost perfectly (like the triplets should do, just saying), he isnt going to have an ‘i dont understad you’ moment…..yet i expect it doesn’t happen or else, im gonna cry, first the triplets who had lived with him all their life? and now scrooge who webby said has spent at least thirty years with him? fucking come on. if della comes back and she doesn’t understand his twin brother perfectly im gonna cry, fucking honestly. donald needs to confidently talk with his speech impediment, excitedly, happy, almost unintelligible but with the confidence that there are ppl out there that do understand him and love him. i expect scrooge and della to be those ppl (not counting the caballeros, uno, storkules, and other family members, who can maybe understand him but arent with him constantly to remind him to not let down his confidence in that matter).

also they fighting nonsensically is the best thing, because they do that a lot, they fight over the most ridiculous things and they act like that sometimes, just pure idiocy over the most unimportant matters is like their default mode is the best. they’re can be so ridiculously petty, i love them.

3. ‘team uncle for the win!’, hug and retreat and lets just shook hands moment

THEY HUGGED!!!!SO!!!GOOD!!!!! wait no keep hugging what are you doing? show each other how much you care, you need it, you dummies, goddamit and now you’re shaking hands ok why not fucking god

well besides that, ‘team uncle for the win!’ was a beautiful, spontaneous and wholesome moment that i shouldnt overanalyze but i will anyways lmao i have the opinion that scrooge said that spontaneously but can be interpreted in a more literal sense to understand scrooge and donald’s actual status of their relationship. team uncle is literally for the win, it wouldnt exist if it didn’t fulfill that specific function, donald probably knows this team up is more a way for them to win, for scrooge to win. but when against all odds they are successful in jenga (lol) this triggers something in scrooge that genuinely burst him into an affection spring and makes him shout that, it was just a piece, they both know it but its almost the first time they have bonded in years and donald, who is particularly sensitive and reacts a lot to emotions, reacts as well with affection and excitement, and what happens when ppl sync up their emotions spontaneously like that? they are overflowed with it, they need to act on it, emotions are almost impossible to control, they’re unpredictable, quick and extremely powerful driving forces so what obviously happens? THEY HUG!!!! emotions made these two idiots hug, they havent hug in years!!! YEARS!!! and they hug again in years because they were overflowed with genuine affection!!! but like i say, emotions are quick and when they end, its like a slap of realization in the face, they go ‘omg i did that!’ and separate immediately, just to go and cordially shake hands? when emotions are involved, context usually flies out the window, they probably forgot ten years of separation in that instant, but when it ended all those years came back and made it kind of uncomfortable. so their ‘we’re doing this just to win’ attitude comes back.

but it was good! its a good start! i dont know if they showed each other this kind of spontaneous affection but without embarrassment, pre-della disappearing but it. is. GOOD. these two need as much fluff as the triplets and webby get. uncle-nephew/niece relationship is a big thing in the DuckTales universe, and for scrooge and donald to not have as much as the triplets get kills me inside. they need this the most, so i hope this season provides because it started well in that matter, i hope it progresses into unapologetic and genuine affection without embarrassing departings and weird shake hands.

4. helping him get up moment

completely underrated and wholesome moment, like there are no downs at this moment, its too good, they helping him up? nice. scrooge looking at them mad while protectively holding onto his boy who i remind you is in the will and for consideration, he’s one of his heirs (the other one being definitely della and very probably the triplets)? so nice. beautiful, i love it. mindless fluff this was. 10/10.

5. using donald as a weapon and scrooge’s definition of family.

like theres a difference between fighting alongside scrooge and being used to fight by scrooge. and here we see it, that even when scrooge is technically using donald, they are actually fighting together, its different from when scrooge just forces donald to danger and fights and you know why? because donald is doing it willingly. he is enjoying himself fighting, donald has shown from time to time that he likes to fight. so when he fights willingly and scrooge joins him, he enjoys himself, he is happy. like, look at his face, donald is into it, this is a duck that likes adventure and fighting, this is different from the gladstone’s episode and the ‘17 comics, where scrooge just pushes donald into things without his consent or knowledge because what? he thinks donald wouldnt understand? that donald is going to say no to protect his family if necessary? goddamit scrooge, if you took the time to let donald trust you and explain things to him, he would do the things you ask him, he is smart and u know it. this is one of the things where i hc the twins to differ, adult della followed scrooge almost blindly into danger, pushed by her own ambition and thirst for adventure, while adult donald, careful donald who was probably in the navy and has seen things and adventure spirit has matured, did not. i dont think scrooge took that as good as he should. scrooge favored della for throwing herself at danger just like that, confidently and recklessly, but would frown at donald, who turned around and asked why, who said no, who said but, who said this doesnt worth losing ourselves, who was again, too careful. so, scrooge decides to push him around, to see if this could trigger something, instead of talking him into it, and we know how hard it can be for scrooge to talk things trough. i dont think scrooge had any malicious intent but he didnt choose the best way into that and well, when you force someone into something they dont want, it doesnt end well. scrooge needs to learn to talk things through. also, scrooge needs to apologize, donald already forgave him but just that its not going to fix ten years of separation and past issues. scrooge needs to put his weight into this relationship too. and this probably starts with scrooge’s definition of family:

“You drive each other crazier than anyone could and still care about each other more than anyone!”

we have seen this particular definition of their relationship play into the old comics a lot, and in some low level in the series. but the thing is and i have pointed it out several times for the whole post, scrooge is not exactly good at showing donald how much he cares about him in the series to the point that it surprises donald when scrooge does show that he cares about him, and it makes sense that donald is surprised by it, scrooge had openly displayed favoritism for della saying how incredible she was but for donald the only thing he has really openly displayed is dismissal, comparisons to his sister and that scrooge usually just uses him to his beneficial. scrooge needs to learn how to show his affection to the twin he has left effectively, we know he cares, but donald doesn’t and for good reason! scrooge, show him your love for real!

in conclusion, their relationship is improving! it still needs time and adjustment and for scrooge to meet donald halfway into the whole forgiving the past stuff. however, they love each other despite everything and i think thats what matters the most :D they can do it! these ducks dont back down! Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, Vol. 7

If you don’t want to know who Tomozaki ends up with at the end of this book, be warned I talk about that, but not till the third paragraph.

There’s a lot of metatext in the Tomozaki series. To a degree, it’s deconstructing these sorts of high school romcom series, especially the way that the lead tends to be this asocial schlub who nevertheless has the plot revolve around him. As we’ve seen, it’s only when Tomozaki makes an effort that he gets noticed and gets romantic attention. That said, the series has not forgotten that it’s also a real story and that realistic things need to happen, and as such we get a resolution here to the love triangle between Tomozaki, Mimimi and Kikuchi. But there is a little niggling thought at the back of the reader’s head, because at its core this series is about two people: Tomozaki and Hinami. It’s not a matter of “first girl” or anything, it’s a matter of who gets the most narrative attention. And therefore the most interesting part of the book is when Kikuchi, who sees things from an author’s perspective, tries to abandon her own ship and pair Tomozaki with his *real* girlfriend.

Gumi is on the cover but is just a minor part of this book, which revolves around the culture festival. Tomozaki is dividing his energies between Mimimi and her comedy routine and Kikuchi and her play. What’s more, Hinami is setting him goals that require him to enter one of the girls’ “routes” by the end of the festival, without waffling or putting it off. The trouble is, Tomozaki is still trying to figure out how love and romance work. This can be quite funny, especially when he asks Nakamura for advice, but it’s also really making him miss the forest for the trees. In addition to this, Kikuchi is having trouble with the character Hinami is performing in her play, so she and Tomozaki interview people from Hinami’s past… with some very confusing results. Then we get the festival itself… and Tomozaki realizes he may have been rejected by a “Dear John” play.

I have to feel absolutely horrible for Mimimi. She’s a great kid, and a wonderful character, and her reaction to Tomozaki choosing someone else is very well-handled (possibly as it’s not Hinami he chose). But come on, when someone has to choose between two girls and you come in third, that’s just mean. Kikuchi gets it, though. Mimimi isn’t even on her radar, she knows where the narrative of this story is going, and it’s Hinami. That said, thanks especially to Mimimi kicking his ass, Tomozaki won’t let this lie, and reminds Kikuchi that “this is a story” can only take you so far. I also really liked the idea that it’s possible to be an idealist *and* be selfish, and that it’s not wrong to want to have it all. As a result, by the end of the book, he and Kikuchi are a couple.

Will they be a couple by the end of the series? Mmmmmmm… questioning. After all, there sure was a lot of Hinami baggage dropped in the middle of the book and then just left there. She is the other protagonist in this book. (Also, notably, Tomozaki never said “but I’m not romantically interested in Hinami” or tried to contradict Kikuchi’s play, which surprised me.) For the moment, though, Kikuchi is best girl, and they do make a great couple. As for Mimimi fans… at least she gets the manga spinoff?
