Archers/Snipers and Knights/Generals, particularly the former are better than usual in Fates, but they're pretty bad in Awakening.

This again doesn't mean you can't do good with them as tiers are for the hardest difficulties like Lunatic.

Oh and the third Fire Emblem 3DS game, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, a remake of a NES game, Archers are good, but Armored Knights are somehow even worse than they were in the NES original!

Huh, gotcha. I haven't played any of the other games besides Awakening or Fates, so I wouldn't know. I do want to play Echoes at some point though!

So, I'm looking at this new prog and thinking about how they are "A Divine Dragon, a member of a royal family of dragons revered as deities", that's gotta mean either A) we're going to have more Divine Dragons who ultimately don't mean anything or B) he's related to Naga and Tiki because those two and the only Divine Dragons that fit the Royal family of dragons revered as deities part. It'll probably be option A and, if it is, between this and the new 'Fell' Dragon, I think the writers didn't bother to read any FE lore whatso ever or play any of the games.

This ask really feels like you're determined to dislike the game before we have much more than a trailer's worth of information. It's fine if the limited promotional material we have doesn't make it look like a game for you (I'm content to wait for more), but it's unfair to dismiss it as the writers not understanding FE lore when, at least to me, the likely answer is that this is a new world and doesn't need to adhere to the worldbuilding of past games.

In Archanea, yes, there is a "royal" family of Divine Dragons: Naga was the leader of the Divine Dragon tribe, and her closest comrades, Mila and Duma, were dubbed the 'Kingshield' and 'Kingsgrail,' respectively, making it fairly reasonable to presume that she was something like royalty within the Divine Dragon hierarchy; Tiki, as her daughter, could therefore be dubbed a princess of sorts. But those are Archanea rules: we also have Divine Dragons in Elibe, who are simply dragons with a specific type of power, as there's no known ranking structure among the Elibe tribes. Fae being a Divine Dragon in no way negates the Divine Dragon mythology in Archanea, nor does she need to fit into the same ranking structure since she's from another world entirely.

Fire Emblem likes to use Divine Dragon as a class. They've been doing it for years, and changing the look of said dragons with every appearance in every new game with a new setting (and sometimes even games in the same general setting but separated by long periods of time). Tiki's dragon form is different from Fae's dragon form because they're from two completely different worlds:

And to me, that's fine. They don't need to have the same appearance or adhere to the same cultural structure or worldbuilding rules because they're effectively two different kinds of dragon that share an evocative classification. Different worlds are going to have different species, and with FE's love of dragons, they're likely going to have different dragons, and there's only so many unique names to be had. The same is true for ice dragons, fire dragons, you name it: they're named based on specific affinities, not because they're the same thing in every setting.

So I don't see any issue with this story being an entirely new world (which it appears to be) and having a new kind of Divine Dragon (which, if the dragon from the trailer is also a Divine Dragon, appears to be the case) that has a ranking structure with 'royalty' at the top. This doesn't bother me at all: it does not invalidate Archanea's worldbuilding around Divine Dragons with Naga as king, nor does it need to adhere to it.

My issue with 'Fell Dragon' mostly comes from the fact that it's a very specific categorization: there has only been one Fell Dragon in Fire Emblem to date, created via alchemy using Divine Dragon blood, revered and abused in equal measure by humans, until ultimately they became known as a destroyer: the Breath of Ruin, the Wings of Despair -- the Fell Dragon, Grima. Grima's not a natural entity the way that Divine Dragons are, so 'Fell Dragon' as a title is intrinsically linked to the fact that they're an aberration.

The English trailer for Engage seems to be making a similar implication that the Bad Guy with the Third Eye is the Fell Dragon, not a Fell Dragon, and given that 'Fell Dragon' is pretty intrinsically linked with Grima in the FE fandom's collective mind, it's going to take a lot for me to accept that title for another dragon regardless of it being a new setting. But even still: the same logic is true there as it is with the Divine Dragons. It's a different world, and there's really only so many unique and cool titles and classifications to go around. It's entirely reasonable that this could be a different Fell Dragon in an entirely different world, and IntSys just didn't recognize how closely long-time fans associate that name with Grima.

I don't want to find reasons to be mad about a game that's not out yet. I want keep an open mind and find out more as we get closer to the release date. For all I know, this might turn into another Three Houses situation: I had been planning on waiting to pick the game up based on the early info about the Academy Phase, since school settings really aren't my thing, but as soon as the timeskip info dropped I was eager to learn more -- so much so that I picked it up on its launch date. Engage isn't necessarily looking like my type of game at present, but I'm interested to see where it goes and what it does with this new world.
