This Poor Fox
Fundy was many things.
A soldier. A friend. A follower. A lover. A son.
--------------------
A soldier
Fundy was but a young kit when the war began, his crayon-colored suit heavy upon his shoulders as he listened fervently to the promises of freedom and independence his father continuously spoke of. He looked up to his father then, hoping for the day that he could prove himself.
Then the inevitable end came.
“It was never meant to be.”
His friend… Eret traitortraitortraitor
His home, torn to pieces by The Tyrant.
His uncle younger than he and yet he already knew of war dueled and lost.
But for the price of his uncle’s discs, they gained their independence.
He stood beside his father, the dawn of a new day rose upon their great yet broken nation. He cheers, tears of joy cascading past his cheeks. They were finally free.
Yet he does not miss the look on his uncle’s face, his nearly empty gaze as he handed his precious discs over to The Tyrant. He watches his uncle – Tommy – celebrate and sees the pain of loss in his eyes. They had all lost something of value to this war.
And as Fundy looks over their country from the top of the caravan.
He wonders if it was worth it.
--------------------
A friend
The lull that came after the war was bliss.
He forgave Eret. It took a while, but he did. Their little prank war a symbol of their friendship, as strange and chaotic as it may have been.
They didn’t talk about the war. Fundy didn’t want to talk about the war. Eret would remain his friend. Eret was the only friend he’d ever had in the war. He remembered their jokes, their schemes, the houses they built together…
And even if Fundy’s nights were plagued by those haunting white eyes, he would rather have his friend than nothing at all.
Then Niki came and the war felt as though it happened in another lifetime.
They had started a bakery together, the sweet smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the streets of L’manburg. Their hands may have been caked with flour, but it didn’t matter. For once, Fundy finally felt at peace.
Then…
Fungi didn’t deserve to die. Not to The Arsonist, and certainly not to anyone else. Fundy’s anger was uncontested then, provoked to the point that he had challenged The Arsonist to a duel.
He knew he would lose, but he had to try. For Niki. For Fungi.
--------------------
A follower
Schlatt was not an easy man to follow.
Fundy couldn’t pin heads or tails with him. Some days he would stagger around L’manburg Manburg, drunk out of his mind as he muttered an incomprehensible jumble of words. And some days… it felt as if he couldn’t do or say anything without Schlatt knowing.
Fundy didn’t know why he had stayed, why he didn’t run the moment his father was exiled. But a seed of a plan had begun to form in his head as he watched his father escape. He would be a spy. A spy for his country, a spy for his father.
And he needed to gain Schlatt’s trust… through any means necessary.
The days ticked by. The walls were gone. The flag was burnt. He did that, didn’t he?
But… there were some days… where… Schlatt made sense.
Well… Schlatt was elected president… and… the people wanted him, didn’t they?
They elected him for president, what did they expect?
And Schlatt… Schlatt listened to him. He gave Fundy a position, a role to play. He wasn’t just Wilbur Soot’s son anymore. He was someone.
So Fundy follows, he follows and smiles.
He forgets what he stayed for.
--------------------
A lover
The Tyrant— Dream.
Who would have thought he would have ever fallen for his father’s greatest enemy?
It began as a joke. A teasing suggestion to watch Treasure Planet with him.
Then Dream had said yes and Fundy almost couldn’t believe it.
Fundy had taken them to a restaurant, far away from Manburg and the SMP. It was just the two of them. Two people on a date. Definitely, normal.
Fundy had been nervous. This was, after all, the man who had torn his country apart. But the night had been… well, great.
They talked for hours. Fundy’s fear dissipated as the night grew longer. As the minutes blew by, Fundy had a hard time imagining that this was the very same man he had once called a tyrant.
That one date evolved into two… then three… then four… then…
His hands were shaking, the air tense as Fundy kneeled on one knee, a diamond ring in his hand as he looked up at his beloved.
“Dream, would you marry me?”
Dream was silent, then…
“No way…”
He felt his heart shatter into two.
“Yes. Yes, I will marry you Fundy.”
He had never felt so alive. He was engaged!
--------------------
A son
The festival came and went. Tubbo left. Niki left. Quackity left.
He was alone. With Schlatt. The man who he thought he could follow. The man he had begun to see as a father figure. The man who had publicly tried to execute a child. The man who had imprisoned his friend. The man who had driven his own vice president away.
How could he have been so blind?
He leaves. The book in his hand felt heavy as he made his way through Pogtopia, to his father… to his family.
He sees the manic look in his father’s eyes and wonders if he had been too late.
“My traitor son!”
“I despise you, Fundy.”
The words sting. His own diary – he had worked so hard on that! – discarded as soon as his father was done reading it.
They don’t want him, and he feels his heart begin to ache.
So he burns.
He burns and burns and burns, until the forest he had stumbled into is nothing but ash.
“You know who would be proud of me? Mr. Soot.”
And he lies. He lies and lies and lies. Because his father hates him…
And maybe Fundy hates him too.
--------------------
Fundy is...
He doesn’t know what he is anymore.
His fiancé betrayed them.
His home was gone.
His father was dead.
Tubbo was president.
And… he had nothing.
Nothing to his name. Not even a single shred of family left.
Tommy probably hates him.
Phil didn’t want a fucking furry for a grandson.
And Techno—
“You’re an orphan now, Fundy!”
You know what Techno does to orphans, don’t you?
He shudders, hugging his knees closer to his chest as he watches the sun rise over the rubble that he used to call home.
He watches as Tubbo and Tommy run around the ruins, doing everything they could to piece back what they had lost.
Oh… what they had lost.
Fundy sighs, the thought of running away surfacing to the front of his mind.
Before the war… he had joked to himself that he would make a cabin away far, far away. Where no one could ever reach him again.
He stands. His mind made up.
There was nothing here for him. Tubbo and Tommy had each other. They would be fine.
And as he walks away, he swears he could hear the haunting tune of a guitar waving its goodbye.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Any chance I could get some platonic bad batch with a padawan reader, the padawan was assigned to work with them for a mission, and the badbatch think that they have to babysit, but the padawan ends up being super helpful and cheerful and the badbatch doesn't want the reader to leave at the end of the mission...
Soo,, this isn’t what exactly I meant to do, but?? Sorry it’s not much. I like the baby padawan as a friend of the bad batch idea though! :’)
----------
"Really? How old are they even?"
"I don't know. However old a Jedi Padawan is." Tech shrugs to Crosshair's inquiry, tapping away at his datapad, never looking up to meet the snipers pissed gaze. The smaller clone just ignored his brothers loud sigh as their sergeant walked in.
“We’ve arrived. And they should be sitting outside. Waiting in the hangar for us. After we get them we’re taking off again.” Hunter says smoothly, running a hand through his hair. He wasn’t super excited to gain another passenger. “This is only for today, boys. Keep them alive for one day. And we’re good.”
He finished his sentence as they touched down, the ship causing lots of wind and dust to kick up, but as the ramp slowly lowered he saw the padawan standing there. Holding their arms over their face to keep the dust from blinding them. The offer a smile once everything calms though, a very soft, gentle smile.
Hunter was concerned about the childs safety. But he can’t exactly just leave them here. Not only was it against direct orders, it would humiliate them.
So he stepped to the side, half handing off of the steps as he gestures inside. “Come on, kid. We haven’t got all day.”
The padawan smiles, excitedly nodding and making quick work of the stairs. Their eyes held this untapped emotion that the clone commando treasured. They held curiosity and life in those (e/c) orbs.
Hunter followed closely behind them, as they entered, closing the ramp behind him. “Boarded, ready for takeoff!” He called out and heard Tech make his way to the front of the ship again, to pilot their way out of here.
Hunter stood in the middle of the room with the human, motioning towards them and then his men. “Care for introductions, hm?“
The padawan smiled, clapping their hands together. “Ah, yeah! Sorry! The name’s (Y/n).” They push some of their tousled hair behind their ear. “It’s an honor to meet you guys.”
Crosshair just kept an eyebrow lifted, skeptical. But Wrecker was all for having a new friend onboard. He threw a wide smile out there and placed his hands on his hips, laughing.
“(Y/n), y’sure you can handle yourself?” He sizes them up. “Ya kinda small, if you haven’t noticed.”
(Y/n) grins widely, accepting that as a challenge. They match his stance, radiating energy and confidence. It was surprising, coming from that small of a person. Comparatively, really. “Absolutely. I can kick ass any day!”
Wrecker cheers, pumping his fist into the air. “Love to hear that.”
“Can’t wait to see it.” Crosshair snides from his seated position, he was too busy cleaning his rifle to look up. But he was obviously entertained by his tone of voice.
This miniature Jedi’s energy was contagious.
-----
After the ride there, in which the conversation consisted of Wrecker exaggerating on the danger of the animals that they’ll be encountering, they landed on a grassy, forest planet. Moon, actually. But that didn’t matter much.
Hunter handed (Y/n) a filtering mask, a smile on his lips as he pulled his helmet over his face. “You’re gonna need this, kid.”
As soon as they all stepped onto the soil Tech began blabbering about the people who used to inhabit this moon, the plants, and how the animals are more scared of them then they are of the animals.
In which, (Y/n) listened carefully. Absorbing every word the smaller man said. Even asking questions every so often when something particularly sparked their interest. But mostly kept quiet. A look of awe in their eyes.
Tech was smitten with the attention.
But as they walked, a large, rabid creature came charging towards them. The boys split and took flanks on both side of it, taking proper cover.
But the padawan stood stock still in the middle, spreading their legs slightly they took on a firm stance. And pulled their saber off of their belt. Staring down the drooling animal as it charged. They closed their eyes and took a deep breath, opening them with a fiery intensity, they ignited the (blade color) saber and turned to the side, beheading the creature and dodging it’s attack with one swift strike.
Some of it’s blood splattered on their face and body, but they seemed unmoved. They just cut their saber and wiped their cheek with their sleeve.
“It’s dead.” They called, awkwardly stepping over the sprawled out legs of the dead animal, stumbling slightly. Approaching where Hunter is stepping back out into the lightly worn path.
He wore a brilliant look in his eyes, a small smirk on his lips. But that was hidden away behind the helmet.
“Nice work, (Y/n).” He ruffles their hair, making them laugh in return,
“Yeah!” Wrecker cheers, playfully nudging their shoulder, making them stumble more then he expected, But what else did he expect to happen? He’s a giant. “Nice kill, tiny jedi!”
Tech agrees with a nod of his head and Crosshair only gave them a respectful bow of his head, but it was better then before. So they considered that progress.
“Thanks, guys.” They smiled widely at the attention. “Come on, lets keep going.”
And that they did, they kept venturing through the thick brush of the planet until they came to the base they were supposed to be looking for. It had been abandoned due to the lack of breathable air on this planet. They went in and extracted the old files successfully, no trouble after that large animal jumped them, but when they made it back to the ship they were all thinking the same thing.
They had too good of a time to let the Jedi go.
But they had to.
Sadly they flew back to the original base the padawan came from. The ship was quiet, much unlike how they were earlier, laughing and joking as Wrecker tripped on the large tree roots of the planet. Landing and opening the ramp, they all nodded, and kept their mouths shut as (Y/n) waved goodbye.
Walking down the stairs, a frown stuck to their face, they turned when Hunter called to them. Raising an eyebrow.
“Hey kid?”
“Yes, sir?”
“You’re always welcome to join this squad on any mission you feel like.” He threw a smile their way, leaning on the framework of the ship. The rest of the crew could be seen behind him. Watching them leave.
The padawan threw a sloppy salute, a smile on their face. “Sir, yes sir.”
One of my most favorite Disney films of all time (if you haven’t noticed I’m doing a Disney marathon nostalgia run on free streaming sites) is Treasure Planet. This movie isn’t as remembered as most others but it is an underrated masterpiece. Let me tell you why.
This film is basically Treasure Island in space, yes it’s built on that old infamous pirates tale of treasure, mutiny, and an adventure of the seven seas (seven quadrants/nebulae...err?), but what makes it special is various things. First and foremost are the characters. John Silver is not quite human I think but maybe a hybrid or humanoid but he’s a man of color (technically) and his relationship with Jim is *chef kiss* perfect. He’s the guy I would want as a father over my ex-dad anyday. The main captain of the RLS Legacy is a woman and a badass. Jim starts off as a moody teenager but he really gets some character development and it fixes his relationship with his mother good.
The second best thing about this film and one of its highlights overall is the CGI and animated sections blending together. Trust me when I say that not everything is noticeable as CGI but even the parts that are noticeable really make those scenes look fantastic! The backgrounds as well are something to behold. SPACE never looked so fine! Even though the black hole scene is outdated (thank you Interstellar/science marches on), it even looks badass still.
The third thing surprisingly is the story. Yes it’s an expy of Treasure Island so if you read the book or watched one of the original films, you already know the story but although it stays mostly true to it, you can tell where they added their own retelling of the adventure and it works wonderfully!
It sucks this film came out among the decline of 2D animation and it was dwarfed by other movies plus had a very weak theatrical release but this movie I believe has achieved some of the best animation a film ever could conceive even now and days. I really suggest watching it if you haven’t yet.
My only complaint (spoiler) is that John Silver didn’t join Jim instead and went back to the newly rebuilt Benbow Inn as a permanent father figure, that and I think he would have made a great cook and companion to Sarah, Jim’s mother. Yes, I ship those two, don’t @ me.
But anyway I hope you guys enjoy~!
Word Count: 1,550
Warnings: Violence, Language.
“ Get out of my way.” The stranger commanded as he walked towards the small Golden Dawn squad, Neva looked over at Mimosa and saw she was using one of her recovery spells. ‘Good. At least she’s alright.’ Neva thought in relief as she removed her Diamond Shell and conjured up two twin daggers made out of diamond. She only ever used this spell when she knew she would have to engage in close quarter combat, she watched as Yuno and Klaus also got into their combat positions. The stranger didn’t look phased at all.
“ Yuno, Neva, look.” Klaus motioned towards the man and saw what Klaus was pointing out, the diamond on his grimoire.
“ He’s from the Diamond Kingdom.” Yuno said as his eyes narrowed, Neva nodded, it was just as she suspected. But what really confused her was the crystals on his forehead and the one on his chest.
“ Klaus, are those what I think they are?” She asked as she turned toward him. Klaus nodded before he pushed his glasses up.
“ Yes. I thought the rumors about the Diamond kingdom conducting experiments on people were just that; rumors. Apparently we were wrong.” Klaus said before the man attacked them again, luckily Klaus had good reflexes and was able to block the attack with a steel shield.
“ Quit talking and get out of my way!” The man commanded again before sending more attacks their way. One right after the other. The three Golden Dawn members did their best to dodge and send attacks right back at the man, Neva mostly tried to protect Mimosa the best she could as Yuno and Klaus went for the stranger.
‘Now I know why people assumed I was from the diamond kingdom.’ Neva thought as she used one of her blades to slice through an attack. ‘On the surface you can’t tell the difference, other than they’re different colors, but otherwise they’re nearly identical. Except mine's stronger.’ Neva though with a smirk as she used her ‘Diamond shower’ spell at the stranger, who blocked it with ease. She gritted her teeth, this was a real pain in the ass.
“ We’re being cornered.” Klaus said as he and Yuno moved back toward the girls, he and Neva shared a look between themselves. ‘They would have to send someone ahead without them.’ After Neva nodded in agreement Klaus looked at Yuno. “ You need to go ahead without us. We’ll take care of him.” Klaus commanded, Neva stood up straight.
“ But I-!” Yuno began to argue before she held up a hand to silence him, she knew he’d argue, that was the kind of person he was even if he appeared to not really care about anyone.
“ We’ll be fine. Go and get that treasure. We’ll meet you there once we deal with this guy.” Neva told him, she half turned toward him, a small smirk on her face. “ Trust me. This guy won’t be able to take us down that easy.” She added before she and Klaus shared another look.
They were screwed, and they both knew it. If Yuno was even having a tough time with this guy, then the two of them didn’t really have a chance. But if they were going down, then they’d go down swinging. She heard Yuno sigh, apparently deciding not to argue, she heard him quickly run down the hall. ‘Wait, when did that door open?!’ She thought as she turned to look; yep it was open, huh, interesting. Neva suddenly heard Klaus shout and she turned to look.
‘Dammit! I shouldn’t have gotten distracted!’ Neva thought as she saw a crystal bind Klaus’s foot. It was as if the world began to move in slow motion; she saw the man send another attack towards Klaus, her body began to move on its own, but she knew she wouldn’t make it to him in time. The spell was going to hit him, and there wasn’t anything she could do about it.
‘Why...why am I so weak?’
Suddenly, a rush of wind swept past her and blocked the attack. Neva quickly turned and saw Yuno standing there, she couldn’t stop the surprise from appearing on her face. He turned back for them?
“ Why did you turn back? We told you to go! The mission is our main priority!” Klaus shouted as Neva quickly broke the crystal that bound his foot, they watched Yuno stand a bit in front of them, as though to shield them from the stranger.
“ Because you’re my friends.” He answered simply, Neva had to admit that statement shocked her a bit and she didn’t really know why. If this weren’t such a serious situation they were in she would probably be laughing right now. He had only known them for a couple of months and was already admitting they were his friends, whereas she had known most of her squad for over a year and she refused to call any of them that. Hell, she didn’t even want to call the people she was currently with her friends! ‘But,’ Neva thought with a shake of her head. ‘If Yuno’s already willing to admit that he considers us his friends, then maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to admit it too one day.’ That single thought warmed her heart a bit, before she suddenly felt a surge of mana.
“ Neva, look!” Klaus stated, pulling her out of her thoughts. He pointed toward where Yuno was standing, shock clearly on his face. As Neva turned to look she realized that was where all the mana was coming from, a smirk appeared on her face as she watched the wind circle around him.
“ Well aren’t you just full of surprises Mr. Prodigy.” She muttered as she watched him wield two spells at once and throw them at the soldier.
————
“ Yuno!” Neva shouted as she watched him begin to be overpowered by the Diamond Mage, she hadn’t noticed he never pulled out his grimoire, but now that the Diamond Soldier had, the fight was even more unmatched than it already was. Neva quickly conjured a diamond wall in between Yuno and the man, trying to do anything she could to try and help Yuno get the upper hand. But as thanks for her troubles, she was given a crystal doll created by the stranger and it just so happened to be strong enough to keep her busy.
“ Klaus! Snap out of it we need you!” She shouted as she sent another diamond shower at the doll. It was almost a life size version of the ones she had made when she was a child, except hers didn’t move, and they for sure didn’t try to kill anyone! She quickly blocked another attack before looking over at Klaus, who appeared to be stunned for a few moments, finally snapped out of it and began to try to attack the stranger once again. But it failed. The stranger created another doll just like the one she was fighting.
“ Why are you so hard to beat?!” She shouted at the doll as she slashed at it with her blade again, she was able to cut across what would be it’s chest, but it wasn’t enough to take the damn thing down. ‘I don’t understand! My magic is different from there’s! So why isn’t it able to cut through?!’ She thought indignantly as she dodged another one of its spells. Her magic was made out of carbon, theirs was made out of minerals, hers was made from one of the strongest materials on the planet, theirs was not, so why in the hell could she not cut it down?!
“ Just surrender.” Neva turned toward the voice’s and her eyes widened. Yuno was being overwhelmed, and appeared to be frozen just like Klaus was a moment ago. ‘Son of a-!’ Neva quickly conjured a diamond hammer and hit the crystal doll square in the chest, knocking it onto its back. She smirked in satisfaction before rushing to aid Yuno.
But she didn’t get very far.
The crystal doll suddenly appeared in front of her. ‘What the hell? I ended this didn’t I?!’ Neva thought before suddenly she watched as the doll pulled it’s fist back. Crap. There was nothing she could do, she couldn’t block it, she couldn’t move out of the way, she had to take a direct hit. So she did. With a soft ‘oof’ the doll punched her square in the stomach and sent her flying across the room. All the air was knocked out of her lungs as she slammed into the wall next to the dungeons entrance, she slid down onto the floor and watched as Klaus was starting to become overwhelmed by the doll he was facing, and Yuno was about to be dealt a finishing blow by the Diamond Soldier.
‘I’m sorry guys,’ Neva thought weakly as her vision was beginning to darken and she heard the crystal dolls footsteps inch closer and closer towards her. ‘I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to protect all of you…’
The last thing Neva saw before she slipped into unconsciousness was a giant crystal ax about to crash onto Yuno.
———
I’m sorry if this isn’t very good but I hope you guys like it~! I should have episode 5 out in a couple of days than I’ll be able to move on to a couple of other stuff for this series and my fanfics 💕! But I hope you all enjoyed and I hope you all have a good day 🥰!
Elope (Jyn Erso x Cassian's Sister Reader)
Request: I was wondering if you could do a Jyn x Cassians Sister Reader? Where they have to hide because her brother is super protective? Thank you!! By anon
Word count: 1,305
A/N: I wrote this through the whole week during my courses when I was bored so if there's any mistake keep that on mind. Also i got a little carried away. Hope you like it!!!
Tumblr media
It was a calm day at the rebel base, the humid weather of the jungle was somehow decent at this time of the day and the sound of people running from side to side flooded the place, only muffled from time to time by the sound of the engines of ships that were leaving and arriving at the hangars. Yet, the only thing that mattered to you was that you had Jyn by your side.
Your head was resting on her shoulder as you both admired the green landscape of the base. In the distance the planet Yavin prime could be seen in the sky, it was a giant compared with the moon you were in. Jyn had just returned from a long and complicated mission and as soon as her ship landed she ran to search for you. She knew she’d find you at the highest point accessible in the Great Temple, your hiding spot and perfect place to watch the sunset, away from the curious gazes of the base where the gossip flies faster than a X-wing.
This little hideout was a sanctuary for you where the war and the danger didn’t exist, it was just her and you. Jyn wasn’t someone to let her guard down easily but in this place she allowed herself to do so, just because she was with you. She enjoyed holding you close to her, it felt right, it felt safe, you were her home.
Jyn often told you about her missions, what went wrong or right and how the team always managed to pull it off. You listened carefully to her words every time, fascinated by her adventures and all the worlds she described to you, people she met and all the places she helped liberate from the Empire.
Sometimes you couldn’t help but feel jealous to be out there on missions and not just waiting in base all day but you knew it was impossible, your brother Cassian had made an arrangement a few years ago to keep you on the base all the time, to keep you out of danger. You thought it was a bit too much but you also understand why he did it, you were the only family he had left after all.
“I can’t believe you get to go out there.” you sighed once Jyn had finished the report of her most recent mission on a planet that you had already forgotten its name but you could still imagine its crowded streets. “I’d love to see it up close.”
Looking at the longing you were watching in the sky, Jyn's mind created a fast plan to get you out of the jungle, even just for a while. Jyn knew how much you wanted to see the stars.
“Then, let’s go.” Jyn told you with a smile dancing over her lips and a playful look on her face. You laughed thinking she was joking but after you met her gaze it was obvious it was no joke.
“Are you serious?” you asked, she nodded. “Jyn, you know I can’t leave the base. Cassian would kill me-”
“Cassian doesn’t need to know.” She said, already getting ready to leave your little hideout.
“But-”
“I don’t care what he says, we’re going out”. Jyn told you.
A big smile curved your lips as you watched her walking towards the hangar. You felt a bit nervous about disobeying Cassian’s order to stay in base what he’d say if he found out, but what’s life without a little risk?. Jyn was an expert on breaking the rules after all, a trouble maker according to your brother and definitely the last person he wanted to see you with, so who better could you escape with?
But your nerves calmed when you found yourself piloting the small ship you stole, amazed with the blue and white tunnel of hyperspace that you hadn’t seen in so long. You could feel Jyn’s eye on you, didn’t need to see her to know there was a soft smile on her face and a loving look in her eyes.
She had the same look on her face when you landed on the mysterious planet and when you were walking through the crowded streets of the busy city, she was genuinely happy to be there with you, no need to hide.
Under the bright colorful lights of the city Jyn’s eyes seemed to shimmer in a magical way. You looked at her for a moment as she took a sip of her drink, you would never get tired of her green eyes and her delicate features. She had done many lovely things for you yet this was the sweetest.
“Jyn, thanks.” you told her, taking her hand on yours. “For bringing me here, it’s nice to leave the jungle for a bit.”
“Anytime, love.” she told you with a smile. “We should do this more often.”
“You mean disobeying direct orders, stealing a ship and runway to some random planet for a drink? I’m in.”
“Why when you say it like that it sounds like a bad thing?” Jyn laughed.
“We kinda did break a few rules, Jyn.” you chuckled.
“Oh, come on, Y/N!” she laughed “Don’t bring the rules right now, we were having a good time.” She said sliding a hand around your waist to pull you closer to her body. “I am having a great time.” you giggled. “I’d love to visit more planets with you.” you told her after thinking it for a moment. You were in a war and in a war everyday could be the last, you decided you wanted as many days with Jyn as possible.
“Then it’s settled.” she smiled before she brushed her lips on yours pulling you into a rather delicate kiss that you wouldn’t expect from a girl as tough as her but it was a side very people knew. You enjoyed her closeness and her soft touch as much as you could when the sound of a comlink beeping took you back to reality, forcing you to break the kiss.
As soon as you answered the communicator you heard your brother’s voice.
“Where are you?” Cassian asked, he didn’t sound very happy. You held the small device close to you trying to come up with an excuse.
“I’m taking inventory.” you lied.
“You still don’t know how to lie, Y/N.” he said.
“Well at least she doesn’t hide things and that’s why I trust her, Cassian.” Jyn interfered.
“Is that Jyn?” Cassian sounded so surprised and even angrier now. “Oh, I knew she would cause trouble, she’s so undisciplined-”
“Whatever you say, Andor.” Jyn said, taking your comlink and immediately turning it off leaving only the echo of your brother’s voice behind. “I can’t believe that you’re family, you’re so different.” Jyn told you.
“Yes, we are.” giggling you said. “We should go back to base now.”
Jyn looked at you for a moment before nodding in agreement.
“Alright. But first, we take one last round of this corellian whisky” she said with a teasing gaze. You shook your head, she was unpredictable sometimes and she knew you couldn’t say no to that precious smile of her.
“Fine.” you chuckled. “But just one round, Jyn.” you warned her.
She ordered a new round and then another and you knew it was just to keep you a little longer by her side before returning to the base where the war and the chaos was waiting for you in a briefing room, maybe even a new mission for Jyn, which meant a new season of looking at the sky of the base waiting for her. So you took the most of those moments by her side because in times like these every moment was gold and Jyn was a treasure.
A Bloom In Time Ch6 A Tale Of A Prince,Queen,And Princess Of Flowers
(Warning: Death scene in this chapter. I do not know Snatcher's or The Florist's real names so Im making my own headcannon names for the two. Also mentioning of Death near the end of the chapter.)
You may have heard this story but not in the correct version you might've thought. Gather around children and I'll tell you the story of a Prince of Shadows, A Queen of Golden Hair, and an honorary Princess of Flowers. And it all took place one thousand years ago. Way before you or I was born.
Once upon a time there was a planet called Subconia and there are many different cultures and people who live on this world, but the two kingdoms we shall explore was two kingdoms that don't exist anymore. A thousand years ago there lived two kingdoms who lived side by side. The MUCH larger Kingdom Of Subcon, and the tinier Kingdom of Subconette. Though these two kingdoms shared similar names and people, they were worlds apart. A lone Queen ruled over Subconette while a kind King and Queen ruled over Subcon. Years passed as the kingdoms continued to stand, until one fateful day three children were born. A beautiful little princess with hair of the sun was born to the lone queen and a handsome baby boy of equal beauty was born to the Subcon kingdom. Their names? Princess Vanessa and Prince Philip of the Subcon Kingdoms.
Did you all remember me mentioning a third child born? Ah! Good. You're paying attention to my old tale.
Yes. A third child was born, but not of royal blood. A young girl, with hair of rose red and eyes of ocean blue was born to a small farming family just on the outskirts of the kingdom of Subcon, but it was fate that decided her role in the future. Her name? Poppy Rose Bloomington...But I'm getting a little ahead of myself aren't I? Let us proceed with the two lives of the royals before the three intertwined.
As months went by, the Prince and Princess's parents deemed it so that the two would be betrothed in holy matrimony, a union to bring the two kingdoms together at last and bring peace to them all. As the amount of years grew, so did the beauty of the princess. Her skin, was very fair and her hair a beautiful yellow rivalling any gold treasure, with a voice as tender and soft as velvet. Not a woman in the kingdoms could rival her own beauty....Or so she thought. Ever since she was small her mother always made sure Vanessa could have anything a young lady wanted. Servants, good food, exotic jewelry, expensive dresses, anything was hers at a moment's demand and she relished in the fact of being a perfect princess like in those fairytales her mother always read her, always fantasizing about her perfect fairytale like with her Prince Charming and having that perfect white wedding. And that spoiled thinking would ultimately lead this girl to doom. Her mother building her up so and giving in to every request only made her want what was truly a fantasy. An actual fairytale perfect life, whether anybody liked it or not. She fell hard for the handsome young prince of brown hair and handsome features. From the time she could understand to speak, her mother always told her Prince Philip was her betrothed, and were to her married when they grew. Her betrothed.....Her Prince. ALL HERS AND NO ONE ELSE'S!!! She would always be the kind Princess her Prince deserved and he WOULD be the Prince she knew he could be.
Prince Philip was more clear minded than given credit for. The young prince was a kind hearted young boy who cared for his people greatly and wanted to better himself and his country. Therefore it would only make sense for him to want to study the laws governing his kingdom so he may better them. And so his studies began. From a young age the boy studied laws enough to make his parents proud he was taking his studies seriously and at the same time was often taken on visits to meet his future beloved. It was love at first sight....at least at first it was. She was so beautiful and kind and wanted to spend time with him all the time. It was a kinda god send for someone who had no siblings or other children to play with. Having someone your age around you could play and talk to with was exciting. And her beauty only grew over time as well as his love for her, how couldn't he love someone as beautiful and kind as Vanessa? She was perfect.....Too perfect. Things couldn't last forever unfortunately. Vanessa's poor mother had started coming down with an illness that slowly started to make her waste away as her daughter grew and so he tried to be there of course and help console his future beloved, which is where fate intertwined these fated lovers. You see, if there was one thing that Vanessa loved more than anything was attention. Whether it be from her servants telling her how beautiful she was, or compliments....She LOVED attention from her Prince and ...'lightly suggested' it would be nice to receive things. And things she received, flowers mostly.
Did you notice how I pointed out flowers? Good eye.
You see, Poppy was always born with a green thumb, being from a long line of farmers of course helped. She could grow anything from potatoes to peach trees, but ever since she was small, she had always had one love. Flowers! Didn't matter what kind, she always loved growing them just as much as Vanessa loved receiving beautiful flowers from her prince. Which lead us to the fated meeting of the Florist. Poppy worked her whole life to build up her own flower stand and by the age of fifteen she had achieved it. A small flower stand within the Subcon Village, filled with lots of Merry children and near the famous vacation home of the famous Princess Vanessa. Sometimes she'd be lucky enough to see the beautiful princess walking around the village talking to the children but one fateful day to Poppy's surprise a young handsome man with brown hair and a golden crown on his head came to visit the small stand of flowers. Buying the most beautiful roses Poppy had before leaving. And this young ones is how a friendship began. Almost everyday of the week the prince would stop by the Florist's stands and pick out a new bundle of pretty flowers for his mourning and beautiful princess and everyday she would smile and talk to the prince. Business sales went up and she was giddy a well known man had taken interest in her flowers. Then he started asking what she'd recommend he'd get a lady since she was one, she proudly pointed to daises, and tulips, and tigerlillies. So many to choose from, so many to give. Gradually their conversations turned more business like and an unlikely bond began to weave with them. A friendship he had never had beyond any personal life or otherwise. He learnt her name too. Poppy. Named after those cute red poppy flowers she loved so much, with a spark and feisty temper to match. Made him laugh a couple times when she pointed out something snarky he liked. Slowly melting his heart with her passion and tales of hard work she had to do to get where she was know. And he admired her for that.
Unfortunately fairytales don't last beyond pages, and the Prince learnt that the hard way when Vanessa convinced her still ill mother to make a new law. Telling him he's become fat and shouldn't eat bacon anymore to watch his health. Poppy was confused at such a ridiculous law and her friend was obviously upset about it, but he passed it off as Vanessa wanting to make sure he was healthy as her mother was still dying slowly. Then slowly by surely things only began to get worse. Vanessa wanting attention was fine and he vowed to give her all the attention she deserved, but now she demanded ALL his attention ever and always began scrutinizing him for not being Princely enough now that he began his advanced studies and would go back home within a few months time to finish his more difficult studies under one of the kingdom's best tutors. His only escape was when Vanessa was discussing her future duties with her mother and also taking her Princess classes with her tutors. He was then free to walk around and do as he pleased if only for a few hours a day, those were spent reading or walking around the village, but he learnt pretty quickly to bring some kind of gift or trinket back for her as an excuse for why he'd been out. Vanessa's jealousy could rival that of a child. He never intended for it to happen of course but the strain of the relationship getting to him and the way he looked so tired all the time. Barely smiling when he came in to get Vanessa more flowers. Against her better judgement, Poppy asked why he wasn't smiling anymore and let him rant about his day. Which was a daily thing for them after that. Him coming in, Poppy letting him rant, then he'd buy flowers and leave. Rinse and repeat for the next two years to a few weeks before their twentieth birthdays with Poppy cracking jokes and trying to be helpful and the prince slowly growing more and more fond over her unlady-like snorts and giggles, to her bold statements, to her bright smile always trying to cheer up her friend. All the while Vanessa continued to go down this rabbithole of perfection. He still made excuses for her. Her mother was dying, she was going to be Queen soon, she wasn't ready-.....Well for being Queen that is. Vanessa had already planned out their lives together and even built a BLOODY nursery for their future child that wasn't even born yet. One in her castle and one in the mansion he was staying at, but Vanessa would visit very often. Even stay a few days.
But what really concerned his friend was the hair incident. When he came in with his usual shoulder length brown hair was chopped up and a bad bleached blonde color, with brown patches here and there. He claimed he was alright. Vanessa just wanted to surprise him by doing his hair while he slept. He could tell his friend was concerned and told him as much. He smiled knowing at least someone cared about his well being. Then came the last month he stayed and then off he went back home he went. To spend his final year of tutoring under the wonderful Lady Winchester. She was a kind old lady who taught his father before him and knew the laws better than anyone. He bid his last day there to his beloved Vanessa who cried and begged him not too, and once he fled her clutches......uh Hugged her good bye, he couldn't help but feel very releived he'd get to spend a whole year away from her as hash as it may be. But he did make sure to bid his friend good bye as well. Having one last conversation and sharing a couple jokes before he finally left.
That year would be the hardest for our ill fated lovers and the florist friend. While the Prince was able to breath and see his loved ones again, he couldn't help but miss her. Not Vanessa surprisingly but with all the serious laws and classes he missed their little visits when she always cheered him up and her beautiful smile and that passion she always had for anything she set her mind too.....It wasn't very long before he came to the sudden realization. The prince had slowly but surely fallen in love with the young red headed gal. So many emotions hit him at once. Happiness and guilt being the biggest two. For one, he was engaged to Vanessa, betrothed to be married a few months after all his studies are over. He couldn't go against his parents or break Vanessa's heart after so many years of being together, and she needed him. They had been exchanging letters and learnt her mother had sadly passed during an accident. While he couldn't attend her coronation or her mother's funeral, he still sent her many letters. There was still a piece of him that loved and cared about the young kind girl he grew up with, but not the lady she had become....But his heart was tugging towards the Princess of Flowers as he nicknamed her. The sweet scent always following her around. He often found himself happily thinking about his friend....But that's all they could ever be....Just friends. Vanessa was still his priority as glum as that made him and he had a duty to be there for his future wife. Besides. He was only delaying the inevitable by studying, soon they'd be wed and he would be together with her always.......Though that thought did NOT put him at ease at all. Vanessa in the mean time only drove further into her perfect fairytale madness. WIth her mother passing and her Prince not being able to call her his princess anymore, she was determined to then make her prince her King Instead and keep him all to herself. Jealousy spiking whenever he mentioned this Lady Winchester teaching him, he spoke so fondly and highly of his teacher. What did SHE have Vanessa didn't?! Vanessa was perfect. She made sure every INCH of her was, he just didn't put in enough effort on his part. All he needed was her back so he could know where his true place lied.
When the prince ultimately returned to spend just a holiday week at the summer house before their wedding within a few months time.....It was worse than ever. Vanessa demanded more attention of him. Accused him of liking the lady in the letters he had sent her. Said she would be staying in the summer house with him until their wedding to make sure he wasn't getting cold feet. Still despite all this and him trying to calm her down, he still made poor excuses for her and justified his betrothes's behavior towards him. Falling deeper and deeper into his now rare visits to his friend and falling more and more in love with her as the drew on. Knowing he could never really tell her how he really felt about her. Until one fateful day, the end of that week was the royals anniversary, the prince wanted to appease his beloved by getting her a beautiful bracelet and flowers for their anniversary as a gift to her. She deserved something special for the occasion before he went back, and soon his lonely self went on to that same little stand to but some flowers for his beautiful bride to be. Unfortunately he had used all his remaining pons to pay the jeweler for the bracelet .....but it-....He-......He gave the florist the bracelet as payment. One last gift from him he'd ever get to give her sadly.
For you see, the princess's jealousy had reached a boiling point. Delusionly thinking that her prince was courting another woman. In her range when he returned to the castle, a grim fate awaited him in the form of a curse and becoming locked within the cellar death did they part. Their kingdoms both in ruins from the curse. Anyone who didn't fall ill to the curse, fled the country never to return again. Vanessa now trapped within her own home, and the prince becoming a spirit of malice no one dares to challenge.
But what of the Florist you ask? Was she frozen by the Jealous Queen, or escaped with many other people? Well, we're about to find out.
***********************************************************************************************
Cold. Darkness. All of it came rushed over so suddenly. Just like the two heavily armored guards carrying her kicking and screaming self towards the dreaded summer house that housed the royals deep in the snowed up world. That winter suddenly came that year unexpectedly with the freezing winds suddenly whipping around her when she just closed up her stand for the day, pocketing the expensive bracelet she was given as payment and what coins she received as payment, ready to go home. She didn't make much from her flower stand she always wanted, but that was always fine and dandy. She loved the smiles on the children's faces when they'd buy single flowers for their parents, or if she'd sell them flowers in exchange for small things like food. It was one way to get to eat around here. But the chills filling the air that after noon followed by the loud thumping sounds coming towards her were new. Especially when all of a sudden two giant armored men stood over her and seized her without warning. So naturally she resisted and fought against her captors as they took her away.
"LET THE PECK GO OF ME!! I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG!! YOU CAN'T DO THIS!!"
The farther down the path they went the more horrified she became. There was ...snow. IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER!! Harsh white and cold wind glared all around her as she gawked around wildly....and then shrieked at the sight of a frozen person as they passed. Their feared expression forever frozen on their face. The poor girl went silent from the numb cold as those blue eyes widened in horror at all the suurounding frozen people as they walked past, never easing up on her grip, or giving any emotion to anything around them as the horrified woman went limp in their arms from shock as they approached the black gates and beyond that was the manor. Her blue eyes flicked up to it. It looked more menacing than it usually did as the entire house loomed over them the closer they got and a sudden feeling of dread filled her up to the very core of her soul as they were swallowed by the shadows and even more coldness bearing down on her. The guards didn't stop until they were going up the stairs and into the home. It was as dark and cold as the outside. Even more so if that was possible. She was still frozen and scared in the grip of the guards when the doors opened and they forced her inside. The inside of the manor was colder than the outside is that was even possible, and if she wasn't already in shock, she would've shrieked at what was awaiting them just a few feet away from the door.
In the darkness of cold and shadows, a hunched over monster made it's way over to them but dared not come further than five feet giving a hiss. Like she was a skunk and this red eyed thing was afraid of her. How strange, but that didn't stop her stop pointing a hand at her, and in possibly the most scariest, raspy voice Poppy had ever heard. Said:
"Take her to the room and lock her away. ...I can't to look at her for as my prince had done. Perhaps locking away her forever will teach her a lesson about gazing into another man's eyes who belong TO ME!!"
"...WAIT!! WHAT?!" She attempted to struggle again but their strength was too much.
Sadly be the fate of the innocent florist wasn't a pleasant one. As she was marched up the stairs to the very third floor of the manor, the coldness and shadows started to become too much to the point of her screaming and struggling body starting to be overcome by them all. the long hallway they were taking her down ended in a single pair of double doors, the doors suurounded by locks that haven't been locked yet. As her weakly numbing body was pushed into the empty room, she looked up just in time to see the two heavily armored guards slam the doors behind her. She struggled to stand with the cold seeping through all her body but wobbled to the door, vision blurring with nothing but darkness. Even as all the clicks and locks of the locks were put into place and the floor jostling with the heavy footsteps of the guards stopping away, she fell to her knees against the door and banged her fist against it. Screaming to be let out as the coldness and blackness seeped more into the room and still overtook her form.
Until it completely consumed her and upon the floor she laid. Beautiful red hair and blue eyes preserved by frost. Until a thousand years later. .....when a miracle happened...
And she once again got to take a breath.
It took some amount of time to get downstairs, what with the way Crowley pinned his angel to the bed. And then Aziraphale's wandering hands in the shower. And the way they wound up snogging each other senseless at the top of the stairs, almost winding up at the bottom by way of running afoul of gravity. By the time they made their entrance into the kitchen, hands linked, they were pink in the face and couldn't stop smiling at one another.
That was, until Aziraphale saw the pies lined up on the kitchen island: apple crumble, cherry lattice with sparkling sugar on top, and mince were all present but also accompanied by blackberry and peach. Aziraphale drew close and hovered over the pies, cooing about how beautiful they were. He reached out to touch one, but Edie smacked his hand with a spatula.
“Ow!” he yelped, yanking back his hand.
“They are for dinner tomorrow night,” Edie sounded deathly serious.
“Oh, alright, but they are beautiful,” Aziraphale sat on one of the barstools, continuing to admire them. Crowley recognized the rapt attention, remembering how Aziraphale had looked at him in the shower. He took a quick mental turn from that image before he was overwhelmed with the urge to grab the angel's wrist and drag him back to their bedroom.
“What have we got here, then?” Crowley sauntered to the counter, also admiring the pies. They were a thing of beauty. Gladys and Edie clearly had talent. Edie pointed out each type with the spatula and Crowley crowed, “you missed a couple, Angel. Off your game.”
“I was a bit distracted,” Aziraphale hmphed. Crowley approached his stool and spun it around to face him.
“You can only smell some pies over my mouth-watering aroma, then?”
“Or maybe you still smell like butter and sugar. It's distracting.”
“I've bathed!”
“I know, I helped!”
Crowley felt his face go crimson. He looked over at the ladies only to find them looking suddenly very busy facing the opposite counter.
“Maybe I'll be rubbing down with butter and sugar every day for you when we get home,” Crowley pressed his forehead to Aziraphale's and smirked at him.
“Oh, that would be a terrible mess on my sheets.”
“Tell me, in this vision are they tartan?”
“...yes.”
“No loss there.”
“Hey!”
“That's okay, Angel,” Crowley wagged his eyebrows at him, “they're tartan in my vision, too.”
Aziraphale smiled and wiggled happily on the stool.
“Alright, that's enough mushiness near the pies, you're going to melt the pastry,” Edie swatted Crowley with a tea towel.
“Fine, fine. We'll move it along,” Crowley made a motion towards the sun room and set off for it. Aziraphale lingered, smiling bashfully at Edie and Gladys.
“You don't really mind, do you?” Aziraphale stood to leave.
“Nah,” Gladys winked at him and handed him a tiny mince pie, “Run along, now.”
Aziraphale smiled broadly and left, catching up with Crowley.
“Pssh, really?” Crowley had spotted the pie.
“Told you she likes me,” Aziraphale's smile was smug now.
“I think you're the favorite.”
“Do you want a piece.”
“Nah, I would rather watch you eat it.”
“I still don't understand what you get out of watching me eat,” Aziraphale sat on the loveseat, peering up at him. Crowley hadn't actually meant to say that out loud.
“Well,” he shrugged, going for casual, “I like to watch you take pleasure in things. I like knowing you're enjoying yourself.” He sprawled on the other side of the loveseat, managing to take up most of the room while Aziraphale sat up properly. He rested his head on the back of the sofa and waited, watching Aziraphale with a lazy smile on his face.
“Could you...” Aziraphale trailed off, looking away.
“Naw, now don't do that,” Crowley nudged the angel's knee with his own, “Whatever you want.”
“Oh, that's a list,” he looked back at Crowley, “I wondered if you might tip your glasses down while you watch me. I like watching you, too. Your eyes... they're so expressive.”
“Didn't know you liked 'em,” Crowley pulled his shades down his nose part way and peered at Aziraphale.
“I do. I like that you take them off when we're alone.”
“I've got nothing to hide from you,” Crowley watched as he took a small bit of the pie and hummed happily, “Except for Christmas.”
“Yes, I suppose that makes two of us.”
“Tomorrow, no secrets then.”
“Yes, I will feel better not keeping it from you.”
Crowley grunted, watching him take another bite and let out another hum, wiggling on the part of the cushion that Crowley wasn't currently sprawled over. Crowley kept watching him even as he finished, patting the sides of his lips with a napkin and brushing invisible crumbs off his trousers.
“It was one thing,” Crowley cleared his throat, but it did nothing to get rid of the gravelly sound his voice had dipped into, “before I knew what you sounded like when you... you know. Those little sounds you make, Angel, they would keep me up at night after our dinner dates. But, now I know...” He shifted in his seat, glancing at the door and pushing up his glasses.
“Maybe a little dessert is in order.”
“Dessert,” Crowley blinked, confused, “But you just had pie.”
“It really does devil with your brains, doesn't it?”
“What?”
Aziraphale stood and made for the door, leaving the confused demon still on the sofa as he turned and went up the stairs.
“You dummy,” Edie poked her head around the door frame, from out of nowhere, “he wants you for dessert! You best get up there.”
He should have been mortified, but instead he just smiled at her and hoped he'd willed down the color that wanted to rush to his cheeks.
She high-fived him as he ran past her.
-
After supper it was decided that they would all go out and have a look at the lights that Aziraphale had been diligently hanging outside the inn. Crowley was happy enough to look at them, but still reluctant on account of the weather. The snow had continued to fall and it was ankle-deep now. He shivered as he peered out the the front door.
“You're not going out like that!” Gladys was behind him, shoving a long black coat into his hands, “You'll catch your death. I insist.” She watched him as he put it on and buttoned it and then wrapped a red and green scarf around his neck enough times that his chin was nearly lost inside it. And then she handed him mittens.
“Really? Where on this planet did you find men's sized mittens?”
“I made them.”
“What? Why?”
“For you! You always look cold. You make me cold just looking at you sometimes.”
He put on the green mittens, even though they made him feel silly. Pretty much instantly his hands felt warmer, but he wasn't about to tell her that. One look from her, told him she already knew, though.
“See, I thought you might take better care of yourself if doing so meant using a meaningful gift.”
Crowley clutched his hands to his chest and leaned in to her, whispering, “I'll treasure them, really.”
“Don't much care for treasuring, I'll be happy knowing you're using them.”
Aziraphale bustled by them in a cream-colored overcoat. He also had knitted mittens, but they were white with faux fur around the wrists. He pulled on a matching hat and stood by the door.
“Are we ready to go have a look?” Aziraphale craned to look past Gladys, “Where's Edie.”
“I'm coming, I'm coming!” Edie appeared from the kitchen with a tray of hot chocolates and passed them out. “No need to stand around out there freezing our buns off without something to keep us properly warm.”
“Finally, someone's speaking sense.”
“Oh, you poor dear,” she handed him his cocoa and patted his cheek- her hand was still warm from holding the cup- “if I'm the one speaking sense, we're in loads of trouble.”
Aziraphale opened the door and led them out into the parking lot. There wasn't a strong wind, but enough that it nipped sharply at Crowley's ears as he followed behind the others. He burrowed his face down into the scarf.
“Alright, turn back... now,” Aziraphale walked around and stood behind them as they turned back to the inn. They gasped and smiled and turned one at a time to congratulate him: The whole front of the inn was outlined in white lights, gently fading off and on at random. The walls were outlined in red and draped with net lights the same color. All the bushes were strewn with red and green lights.
Crowley was staring hard at the white lights, trying to discern a pattern to their tranquil flashing when he felt something warm and fuzzy slide over his ears. He jumped, reaching up to find earmuffs.
“Wha-”
“Consider it an early Christmas present,” Aziraphale hugged him from behind. There were too many layers to feel the angel's warmth and Crowley felt the pity of it. Still, his ears had stopped stinging.
“Thanks,” he leaned back and kissed the angel's chilly cheek and shivered dramatically, “The lights are beautiful.”
Gladys appeared in front of them and clutched both of their chins.
“You boys have made this Christmas so special, you know that right? We couldn't have done all of this without you.” She was looking at them very earnestly from beneath the low brim of her knit cap. It had a giant pompom on top that was wiggling with the light breeze.
“I think we're thoroughly enjoying our stay,” Aziraphale's voice sounded a little pinched.
“I think we'll all enjoy our stay more inside,” Crowley burrowed up to his sunglasses into the scarf around his neck, “Not that the lights aren't pretty.”
They went back inside, still sipping their cocoa.
“By the way,” Gladys said as she unbuttoned her coat and hung it on one of the hooks by the door, “I got a call from the group holding the bake sale. All the baskets sold.”
“Oh, what marvelous news!” Aziraphale clapped his hands together happily.
“Someone, one person, bought all of them.”
“Wow, that's a lot of cookies for one person...” Crowley grumbled.
“And then donated the cookies to the orphans...” Gladys was eyeing them suspiciously.
“Don't look at me! I've been here the whole time,” Crowley squawked.
“I do wish I had thought of it, but I confess that I didn't,” Aziraphale looked honestly contrite.
“Whoever did it, it was an unexpected kindness,” Edie was still eyeing Crowley who shrugged at her.
“Anyway,” Gladys threw up her hands, giving up on having an answer tonight, “We all better get to bed. Santa's coming tonight! But he won't visit until we're all in our beds. Goodnight, boys.”
“Goodnight, Gladys. Edie.” Aziraphale nodded to them and they watched the two wander off down the hall.
“You,” Aziraphale turned to Crowley, “You bought all the cookies, didn't you?”
“Yeah.”
“That was a wonderful thing to do.”
“Nah, it was alright.”
“The children will love them.”
“Come on now.”
“I think,” Crowley found himself being pressed against the nearest flat surface- the wall, thankfully next to the coat hooks,- and kissed sweetly, “You should be rewarded for your good deed.”
“Is it a good deed if there's a reward?”
“Sure, if the reward was unexpected,” Aziraphale practically dragged him up the stairs. As if he was going to protest.
Chapter 17 is now up!
Memory- Volleypearl
This story is my contribution to volleypearl week, day 6: her. i wrote it in one sitting :) rip
i’m on mobile so i can’t do read more. sorry. :(
Summary: Pearl reminisces.
~~
Pearl rested her elbows on the rails of the beach house deck, gazing longingly out at the star-speckled sky and the reflection of the full moon on the ocean. She traced her fingers along the wooden railing carefully, noticing how every little scratch, nick, and groove felt against her fingertips. A soft breeze brushed past her hair and whistled through her ears, carrying with it to her nose the faint smell of salt. She heaved a sigh and leaned forward slightly, scuffing her navy flats against the deck and shutting her eyes for a brief second.
She had to admit that she rather liked these flats; she’d never had such a dark-colored outfit before. She thought they went well with her dark purple sweater and lilac jeans. She also liked the contrast with her nearly-white hair- thousands of years of exposure to the Earth’s light had finally taken its toll on her peachy locks. Not that she minded. The Earth had served her well.
Pearl recalled the way she’d earned her new outfit: in a skirmish with a rogue, rebel anti-Diamond-reform gem while she visited Homeworld and the Diamonds with Blue Pearl, Yellow Pearl, and Volleyball. It wasn’t the proudest way to poof but she supposed it was her time anyway. She’d been wearing her teal jacket for almost a thousand years.
Yet at the same time, Pearl wished she could poof again just to change her outfit, so that her last reminder of the skirmish could be erased.
Seven hundred years later and she could still see it when she closed her eyes- the Jasper’s javelin, slicing through the air, Volley standing completely unawares twenty feet away.
Volley! Watch out!
Pearl remembered her own cry as clearly as if it happened yesterday rather than several centuries ago. She’d slapped her hand over her mouth as soon as she’d said it, and couldn’t tear her eyes away from the arc the javelin made through the dark sky. Volley turned a moment too late- her gem was right in the javelin’s path, and when a crack echoed through the air Pearl felt herself cringe and fall to her knees, her sword crashing to the ground a moment after she did.
There was no Steven’s magical spit. There was no Rose’s healing fountain.
That skirmish stole Pearl’s precious Volley from her.
And as far as Pearl knew, she was stuck with those memories for all of eternity.
A lump formed in Pearl’s throat and threatened to spill tears over the edge of her dull teal eyes. She dug her fingernails deeper into the flimsy rail and forced herself to inhale and exhale, again and again until her hysteria was driven from her mind. She didn’t need the oxygen, but it cleared her head.
Pearl knew what Volley would say if she were still here. Aww, Pearl, no need to cry. I’m right here, see? I’m not going anywhere! I’ve got you, Pearlie!
Then she would rest her feather-light, petal-soft hand on Pearl’s own, and lean over to press a gentle kiss to Pearl’s cheek, letting the touch linger for a moment. She’d draw back only when Pearl would giggle, or maybe murmur an affectionate “oh, stop that.”
A brief smile flickered across Pearl’s face when she recalled Volley’s love for giving affection. Volley had been such a gentle, chaste gem, even for a Pearl. She was soft in the ways that mattered- she was a fighter, yes, but above all she was a lover. Pearl loved the way Volley’s beauty would shine through her smile and her gentle eyes. She was a light to every gem that knew her, a gift to her adoptive planet.
But now that light was gone, and just like the sun, it had darkened the whole sky with its disappearance.
The ocean breeze began to pick up, and a breath hitched in Pearl’s throat. She refocused her gaze and let it linger on the sand briefly, before it traveled upwards to watch the moon.
Volley had loved looking at the moon.
Pearl swallowed. She took one more deep breath, releasing it quietly, slowly. She could almost feel Volley’s soothing hand resting on her back comfortingly, rubbing small circles onto her back and whispering sweet nothings into her ear. Telling her she was okay.
She shook her head. Imagination.
Then she looked back to the water, granted with a sudden urge to go down and see it up close, just one more time.
Taking a step felt like lifting a whole warp pad on the bottom of one foot. Another gust hit her halfway down the stairs to the beach. A few tears pricked the back of Pearl’s eyelid, but she heaved another shaky breath and continued.
As her flats slipped comfortably into the cool sand of the beach, Pearl felt a bit of tension release from her shoulders.
Here she stood, all alone in the moonlight, but she suddenly felt closer to Volley here than she did anywhere else. Volley’s presence wreathed around her softly, carrying the scent of flowers and saltwater, and the sensation of kisses Volley hadn’t lived to give. Pearl knew the feelings came from a spot of pure wishful thinking, but she gave the notion no acknowledgment.
She didn’t want to remember that her memories were her only company tonight.
Now Pearl realized what must have drawn her down to the beach. When she blinked, she could almost see a tall silhouette standing on the beach with her. The figure’s outline wavered softly every so often as if it were holographic, but it was less solid than even a hologram.
I must be going crazy.
Pearl approached the figure slowly, her padded footsteps silent. She didn’t need to get too close to the figure to see who it was, especially when its voice sounded out. Louder than a thought, but quiet enough that Pearl knew the voice was merely a figment of her lonely mind.
Your mother’s Pearls never had the whole picture. One knew your mother was trying to change, but she couldn’t understand why. The other never expected her to change at all. Now, I get to understand everything. Now, they finally get to have each other.
Pearl reached her hand up to clutch her chest.
Before Mega Pearl could unfuse, her outline began to grow fainter and fainter until there was no trace that she had been there at all. Not that there would be, Pearl realized. Mega Pearl hadn’t really been there on the beach with her. Pearl was just imagining, reminiscing about how it felt to be so close to Volley for those short moments- moments she didn’t treasure nearly enough before Volley was gone.
To be fused again, to be so close to the gem she’d held so dear to her, was a fantasy Pearl couldn’t afford to entertain.
Now, Pearl could only imagine Volley’s hand in hers again. She could only imagine Volley’s head nestling in the crook of her neck, and she could only imagine Steven’s presence nearby, huddled on the sand a few feet away watching the water. And, most importantly, she could imagine the words Volley had spoken to her just then, the words so quiet that not another soul could hear them being said.
I think I could love you someday, Pearl.
A strange sensation had suddenly flooded Pearl’s body, and she’d replied, I think I could love you too.
Volley’s hold on Pearl’s hand then grew a little tighter.
The beach looked exactly the same that night as it did on this one.
Snapping her out of her reminiscing, a sudden bright gleam caught Pearl’s attention from the corner of her eye. The light was a soft pink, and it sparkled from the edge of the water as the gentle tides moved the object lazily back and forth, like a star gleaming on the shore.
Perhaps that’s what drew me here.
Pearl approached it cautiously and kneeled down when she reached the edge of the water. The tide flowed over the exposed tops of her feet, and as she gathered the object in her hands, she felt a chill race up her back.
The object was rough in Pearl’s hands. Its edges were rough with ocean debris, and it was heavy- heavier than it looked.
Now that the source of the light was cupped safely in her hands, Pearl could finally see what it was.
It was an oyster, open slightly at the mouth, which allowed the soft light to shine through, and made Pearl’s pale hands appear to glow pink.
Pearl sucked in a breath. She knew that on Earth, oysters, at least the ones that contained pearls, could only be found in deeper depths of the ocean. Why this one washed up on Beach City’s shore she had no idea. Its weight felt solid and comforting in her hands, and with a sudden certainty, she knew was meant to have it.
Pressing her thumbs into the slightly-open mouth of the oyster, she pried it open. The glow increased in intensity until a heavy object tumbled out onto her slender hands. Pearl was now nearly completely engulfed in faint pink light, and her hands began to shake as she observed the pink pearl that lay in her palms.
No sooner could a single fleeting thought of Volley cross Pearl’s mind than when the pearl began to levitate, its light increasing in intensity and casting a harsh glow across the beach. The bright light prompted Pearl to cover her face with her hands, and when the piercing glow calmed down and Pearl’s hands dropped to her sides, she was suddenly paralyzed in shock.
Clothed in pink and standing with her back to Pearl was a very familiar figure.
And this time, she was completely real.
Volleyball turned around, letting her beautiful soft pink eyes rest on Pearl. Immediately the corners of Volley’s lips lifted up into a bittersweet smile, and she let out a small laugh.
Pearl was rendered speechless.
It was her.
Volley’s voice was just as lovely and lyrical as it had been seven hundred years ago.
“You didn’t think I would be gone forever, did you?”
Tag Game
Tag Game
I was tagged by both @amandagaelic and @waitingforthestarstofall
1. What was the last movie you watched in theaters? I think...either Little Women or Knives Out (for the second time).
2. What’s your favorite game to play? One that I call Murder Mansion, but I think is actually called Betrayal at House on the Hill or one called Bang! - mostly because it was the most hilarious introduction to a game I have ever had where I got to play a trigger happy unlimited round packing Sheriff who everyone was trying to kill and my besties from the dawn of time were in fact my loyal deputies.
3. Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla, if I must only pick between those two.
4. What’s the last show you binge-watched? Yellowstone or Locke & Key
5. Do you have any pets? Oh dear. Yes. Three cats, two horses, and three dogs (though technically I might own a third horse, who knows at this point?).
6. What’s your favorite fairy tale? Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
7. Who’s your favorite superhero? Batman - not the one that they keep portraying as an abusive asshole like Howard Stark, but the one who legit went to court to keep Jason Todd as his son and dipped out from being Batman and Bruce Wayne social obligations when Jason needed him and collected orphans and tried to make sure they wouldn’t turn out like him.
8. Who’s you favorite Disney Princess? Pocahontas or Tiger Lily probably, though I was never really a fan of the princess movies. I liked Treasure Planet and Great Mouse Detective where there were zero romantic subplots or princesses.
9. Where’s the first place you’re going to go after the social distancing is over? ALASKA. BECAUSE THAT WAS THE PLAN BEFORE THIS HYAH! SHITSHOW!
10. Cookies or Cake? Cookies. I am weirdly not a fan of cake.
+ 10 questions from @teenwolf-theoriginals:
1. which show could you watch over and over? Lucifer, Daredevil (and add-ons), Republic of Doyle
2. favourite song lyric? " I choose my eyes wide open/And my heart half-broken every time/Over the gilded golden shackle/And the reassuring sentimental lie.”
3. favourite season of your favourite tv show? Lucifer season 4, Daredevil Season 1, and...whatever season ends with Jake Doyle getting kidnapped and locked unconscious in a shipping container bound for Mexico
4. what never fails to make you smile/happy? Cirque De Sewer videos on Facebook (ren fair comedy show with cats and rats and a former ballerina).
5. how are you doing with all that’s going on in the world (virus, having to do social distancing, etc)? I feel really weird saying this, but the quarantine is working out freakishly well for me. My sister, who hasn’t lived nearby since 2010, came to visit for our mom’s 70th birthday just before the travel ban, so she’s been here for a little over 2 weeks now, which is the most I have seen her in 10 years. We live in a small town on a farm, so I have a lot to keep me busy outdoors without having to go to public outdoor places. My job is 100% capable of being 100% remote, we always buy from the warehouses when we have coupons so we have plenty of food and paper goods, we have puzzles out the wazoo to keep us busy when the weather is bad, we have a huge garden every year so if this keeps up we’ll have all our own food and eleventy billion movies and crochet projects, etc. I’m also a hella hermit normally, so this is not really all that new. Little mad I can’t go help a friend paint their house, but eh. Small price compared to a lot of others.
6. we all love new music to listen to, name an artist that is underrated/you think people should check out? Janet Devlin. Irish/English folk singer I found on Spotify.
7. tv show or movie? TV show. I love the level of character development that can happen when given the opportunity.
8. favourite holiday? Thanksgiving. All the food. And less work than Fourth of July, because July means I get roped into directing the town parade and half a dozen other things because my parents get me to.
9. a song that describes you? “Psycho” by Ava Max.
10. describe your tumblr in three words? Themed = for chumps.
+5 questions from @macspaperclips
1. What is your favorite hobby? Crocheting, or writing
2. What is your favorite book? Or/and a really good book you’ve read recently? Six of Crows duology - a heist series that I got sucked into thanks to fan art and then finding out the main male lead can’t stand human touch and I was like SOLD.
3. What is your favorite Ship that will never happen (Or hasn’t happened yet)? Not a shipper. I hate ships, because inevitably, ship wars ruin everything. And in some cases, really make me question sanity or mental health of some people. Said I didn’t like a female romantic lead, next thing I get is death threats, and I am totally the type to back track a URL, hunt you down in the real world, and brain you with a hammer. It’s not good for my anger management.
4. If you could spend the day with any living celebrity, who would it be?  Harrison Ford, because it would be on his ranch in Jackson Hole.
5. The best worst movie you’ve ever seen. A movie that you know objectively is trash but you can’t help but really enjoy it. The new Robin Hood with Taron Edgerton, or the Four Musketeers.
My questions (answer these if you’re tagged, then come up with some questions of your own, and then tag people):
1) What is your MBTI and/or Enneagram Number? MBTI - I had to look this up - INFJ or ENFJ, depending on how you want to interpret that first letter.
2) What TV episode is your all-time favorite? The Hay Burner on Bonanza,
3) What does happiness mean to you? Lack of desire
and tagged on because I was in fact tagged by two people @amandagaelicquestions:
1) If you’re a fic writer, do you reply to every review? And if so, how long do you wait? I have only recently started getting over my weird phobia of responding to reviews (I also am rather new to AO3 and it was a little hard or impossible to do in FFN.net), so some stories in the smaller fandoms like Magnum, I have tried to respond to all of them, and it takes anywhere from a day to a month, but in Lucifer...oh dear. It’s daunting, and I keep freaking out because I haven’t finished the behemoth that is Damnatio despite it being years, so I don’t want to respond back to everyone saying “I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN I AM FINISHING THIS” in between severe writers’ block.
2) What color Starburst is the best? Of the original? Pink. Of the options of outward packaging? Blue.
3) Skittles or M&Ms? M&M’s
4) If you were to learn any new language, which one would you choose and why? Bold of you to assume I would learn only one. I am actually taking...four lessons through Duolingo? Irish, Welsh, Spanish, and Hawaiian (Was learning Navajo, but I made it to food and WTF....nope, kicked my ass).
My questions:
If you could be anything else, what would you be?
If you’re a fic writer, what would you guilty pleasure fic idea that you won’t write because you don’t think anyone else would read it?
Is there something you wish you knew more about, and if so, what is it?
tagging: @dragonnan, @rohanrider3, @sofasurf, @buckky, @ariaadagio, @get-whumped, @itsjustdg
If you’re busy or otherwise not feeling it - as always, feel free not to play. If you weren’t tagged, I also mean you. You can come play too.
Taking a Sick Day
Deep in the never-ending vastness of space, Hat Kid’s spaceship was floating rather close to a colorful planet down below. Inside the spaceship, Hat Kid was spinning in her captain's chair, bored out of her mind. She spun around, and around, and around again while trying to think of what to do today.
She had just been to Mafia Town yesterday and the Conductor and DJ Grooves were currently way too busy producing their latest movies. She didn’t really feel like going to Alpine Skylines today and… woah. Was the room spinning all by itself now?
Hat Kid stopped the spinning of the chair with her right foot and slowly adjusted her vision. After everything stopped moving she sighed and jumped out of her chair. She now started to pace back and forth on the giant pink rug that was in the middle of the room. Was there anywhere else she could go? There wasn’t really any more areas she go to on that planet except-
“Ow! My circuit-board!” a robotic voice interrupted her thoughts. Oh great she thought to herself. What now?
She stopped pacing to stare at Rumbi (her little cleaning robot) who was currently banging itself on the door to...
She grinned a wide and mischievous grin. Subcon Forest. Why didn’t she ever think of that?
It had been forever since she had last been with her (contractually obligated) BFF! She had mostly spent this past week collecting hidden treasures and getting rid of all those time rifts that had suddenly appeared in random locations. And yes, technically he did tell her to stay out of his forest or else he would be “disappointed”. But come on, who would be disappointed to hang out with their best friend?
She quickly ran through the door that led to her bedroom and headed toward the telescope that allowed her to teleport to the Subcon Forest.
Time for some quality time with her BFF!
***
To be perfectly honest, today couldn’t have been any worse.
Snatcher felt light-headed and overall the most dreadful he had ever felt waking up. He coughed for what seemed like the fifth time in a row and slowly got up out of his armchair. His head started to ache as soon as he stood up causing him to groan in pain. This morning was not going well for him.
What was this? A curse of some sort? No, no… that didn’t seem right. A curse would feel much more painful (although his head felt like something was constantly drilling into it). Of course, there was the possibility that he could actually be…
Ha! No way. He couldn’t be sick. An all powerful spirit? With the flu? What a laugh! He made people beg on their knees for mercy! He controlled every inch of the forest! He had devoured the souls of thousands! He laughed to himself thinking of all of these horrible things with joyful glee. He quickly regretted that decision as he began to cough loudly, his throat felt extremely sore after doing so.
Okay. So maybe he was a little bit sick.
Who cared though? He was still his old terrifying self and a simple cold wouldn’t stop him from doing what he did best! Even if this headache was quite bothersome, it was nothing that a delicious soul couldn’t fix!
Just then he heard a cry from within the forest. Someone had stepped into one of his traps. What impeccable timing! He quickly straightened himself up, cleared his throat, and teleported to the trap that was set off just a few seconds ago.
***
“AHAHAHAHAAA! FOOOOooo... wait a second.” Snatcher sighed and finished with  “It’s just you again.” before glaring back down at the person who had been caught in his trap. Of course, that person was none other than Hat Kid who was now looking back at him with an apologetic expression on her face. “Well that’s just perfect.” he mumbled under his breath. He really wasn’t in the mood to deal with this today.
Hat Kid looked back at him, puzzled. She had expected Snatcher to be a little bit more excited to see her after she had been gone for so long. Actually, now that she looked at him closer... he didn’t seem too healthy. Bags were under his eyes and his voice sounded raspy. He had started to rub his forehead and he scrunched up his face as if he was in pain. She started to get worried.
“Are you okay?” she said while observing his movements very closely.
“I’m FINE.” he growled back, annoyed at her question.
He’s lying Hat Kid thought as she could see right through his behavior. He was sick, he just didn’t want to admit it.
“More over...” Snatcher spoke up after clearing his throat. “I thought I told you to never come back here a-” he stopped halfway through his sentence. He felt like he was about to sneeze.
Uh oh Hat Kid thought as she pulled out her umbrella and opened it. Whatever he was about to get out of his system, she did not need to be covered in it. She crouched down and shielded herself as Snatcher finally got the words out.
“Ah. Ah. ACHOO!” Snatcher sneezed while a bolt of purple lightening struck awfully close near Hat Kid. Hat Kid almost jumped out of her skin. So that’s what happens when a ghost sneezes... she thought while looking horrified at the blackened spot on the ground. There were not words to describe how thankful she was that she hadn’t been fried by spectral lighting just then. She looked back up at Snatcher who was sniffling and honestly looked even more miserable than before.
Okay, that settled it. She knew what she was doing today.
***
How did he manage to get into this situation?
As of this moment, Hat Kid had taken his hand and was now dragging him all the way back to his tree-home with no explanation as to why. He thought about retaliating and showing the kid who’s boss, but that sneeze from earlier really drained him of his strength. Not to mention that the coughing wasn’t exactly helping him get his point across.
“I’m fine, kid. Now let go of me!” Snatcher spoke in between coughs, his voice had gotten progressively worse now.
“No.” Hat Kid said firmly. “You’re going to rest now.” she stated, with a hint of authority in her voice. He opened his mouth to scream at her, but all that came out was groans of agony. His headache had also gotten worse and now felt like someone was driving a nail into his head. Once they had gotten inside his home, Hat Kid pointed at his armchair.
“I’m not sitting down kid.” Snatcher decided that if this kid wanted him to rest so badly he was certainly going to make this harder for her.
“Now.” Hat Kid snapped back at him and gave him a shove. Before he could even protest, Snatcher found himself falling back into the armchair. He shot her a look full of hatred but Hat Kid just smiled back at him. She took the large book sitting atop the table across from the armchair and placed it in his hands. “I’ll be right back!” Hat Kid then began to walk out of his home and teleport back to her ship.
Did she really expect him to stay here and read until she came back? Ha! As if he would even consider listening to her. To be fair though, he did feel a bit more comfortable now that he was sitting down. And he already had a good book in front of him that he could read while she was gone…
Ah, peck it. Besides, he was rather curious as to what she was going to come back with.
***
He was about halfway into his book when Hat Kid came rushing through the entrance of his home with a backpack and large, brown paper bag in her arms. “About time you came back.” Snatcher muttered, his throat still feeling sore. “What took you so long anyways?” he asked as Hat Kid placed the backpack aside and the paper bag down onto the floor.
First she pulled out a colorful quilt that had many patterns sewn into the front of it. She ran over to him and threw the blanket onto him without any warning.
“Wha- hey!” Snatcher said in surprise but Hat Kid was too busy pulling more things out of the bag to even notice. He just simply mumbled under his breath and tucked the quilt more snugly around him. Hat Kid then pulled out a small glass bottle and a spoon from inside the bag. She stepped onto the ottoman, and jumped onto the arm of the armchair so she was now face to face with him.
“Kid… what are you doing?” he asked, confused by her strange actions. She then uncorked the bottle she was holding and poured a strange liquid into the spoon in her other hand. The substance, whatever it was, was a deep purple and had a very unpleasant smell to it. Hat Kid then moved the spoon in his direction.
He looked down at the spoon and then back at her, not amused in the slightest. “I am not letting you put that spoon in my mouth.” he said while crossing his arms.
“Why not?” Hat Kid frowned and tilted her head in a curious manner.
“Why not?! Do you have any idea what that stuff could do to m-” before he could react, Hat Kid shoved the spoon into his now open mouth. Snatcher’s screams were muffled as she put her hands over his mouth, forcing him to swallow. After swallowing the foul smelling liquid, he soon found out that it tasted just as good as it smelled. He gagged and stuck his tongue out, hoping to get rid of the awful taste.
“What the HECK kid?! Are you trying to poison me?!” Snatcher kept gagging, convinced that he was dying. Hat Kid just laughed and pointed at the label on the bottle. He stopped overreacting to read the words on the label. It read Science Owl’s Patented Grape-flavored Medicine! (good for curing coughs, headaches, and runny noses!).
Hat Kid jumped off the armchair and ran back to the paper bag. She pulled out the last two items that laid at the bottom of the bag, a plush of a corgi and a pink box of tissues. She handed Snatcher the plush and set the box on the right arm of the arm chair. She then went back to the backpack that  was laying on the floor still and pulled out a notepad and a pack full of crayons.
Snatcher watched as she sat on the ottoman and began to draw. He simply sighed and went back to reading the rest of his book. He expected her to leave in about a couple hours, only to find her still sitting there. There were multiple drawings that she had made lying on the floor. Doodles of the fire spirits, some dwellers, a couples of his minions, and even doodles of himself.
“Why are you still here kid?” Snatcher asked, going back to looking at his book.
“To look after my BFF! Why else, silly?” Hat Kid replied with a giggle in her voice. As much as he hated it when she called him her “BFF”, he was starting to get used to it.
“Don’t tell anyone about this kiddo. Ever.” he said to her in threatening tone.
“I won’t, I promise.” she said in tone that assured him that he didn’t need to nag her about it.
It was around nightfall by the time Snatcher finished his book and while he closed it and placed it aside he and to admit, he was feeling a lot better now. Guess the medicine did help after all.
He looked back at the ottoman expecting the kid to still be drawing to instead find her asleep, curled up in a fluffy blanket. He assumed that she must have brought it with her inside the backpack. He went over to where she was sleeping and placed the corgi plush in her arms. She smiled and mumbled something unintelligible in her sleep. With that, he smiled and when back to sitting in his armchair with the quilt wrapped around him.
You know… maybe this kid wasn't so bad after all. Sure she was annoying, and mischievous, and stepped into his traps, and wouldn’t stop harassing him no matter how many times he threatened her. But other than that, the kid was alright (though he would never admit this to her face).
His eyes grew heavy and he slowly drifted to sleep along with Hat Kid. In the morning he would be well rested and feel nice and energized, all thanks to his BFF.
The End
Underneath the Mistletoe || Lina & Jax
The magic of some mistletoe keeps both Jax and Lina from escaping its clutches until they fulfill it’s Christmas tradition...
tw: smut (this basically pwp, whoops)
Just today, the First Cohort had gotten another new arrival. It seemed that Christmas had brought not only the traditional type of gifts, but also presents in the form of an influx of new legionnaires. Jax was always intrigued by whatever fresh blood they received, but if these demigods were going to last the week they would need some substitute armor until they could acquire their own. So here he was sifting through the old shields, and greaves, and gauntlets of the spare armor room. He found a suitable piece and went to exit, but soon heard footsteps approaching, causing him to pause in the doorway of the room.
Lina was quite the fan of Christmas, especially the decorations. It reminded her of home and how her father would dress their small cottage like abode as though it was the Christmas tree itself. To top it off, she and Adriana had received another new legionnaire, which was always exciting for the short woman. She was walking, well to be quite honest, it was a bit like a skip, to the old equipment her new kid could use. She walked into the doorway of the room, stopping speak to Jax. “Long time no see. I assume you have a new legionnaire in need of equipment as well?”
Where Jax’s expression had been neutral before, there was now a hint of a grin tugging at his lips. He was thankful it was Lina that had been the one to come down the hall as she was one of the people that annoyed him least on this planet. A rather impressive accomplishment. “Yeah, it’s almost been an entire two hours since I kicked your ass,” he teased, wondering if she would rise to the bait of the results of their last training session. “But yeah. I got what I came for though so—” He let the sentence hang, silently asking her to move out of the way so he could get going. It’s not that he wanted to leave, but he did have a rather full schedule today.
With their recent training session, Lina had began to get pretty close with Jax. She found his company a well needed change often, it was good to have someone other than Adriana to be able to be her true self with. “You kicked my butt? I don’t remember it quite like that. I think I remember pulling a move that surprised you, maybe you’re just blocking it out.” She didn’t tease people often, Jax was one of the few she felt comfortable enough with to do so. She moved out of his way, stepping to the side a bit,“Off to go prepare yourself for tomorrow’s training?”
Jax shrugged at her implication with a small smirk. “Well if that did indeed happen, it must mean you have an amazing instructor. Pulling off a surprise move and all that.” His conversation with Lina was always entertaining, but he really did have to get going. So he turned on his heel so he could walk away from here but still talk to her at the same time. But the strangest thing occurred. Nothing happened when his feet moved, and it was as if some inexplicable force was keeping him in place no matter how many steps he took. “Lina...you’re not doing this, are you?”
Lina couldn’t help when her eyes rolled, even though she typically only rolled her eyes at Adriana. She supposed that she was just comfortable around Jax to do the same to him. “Sure, amazing. He’s pretty okay, a bit lackluster at times, I’d have to say. His chokeholds could use a bit of work.” She watched his attempt at leaving with a perplexed look on her face. “No. While, I do enjoy your company, I’m not going to stop you from leaving. Perhaps they put in extra security for the equipment? To stop sticky fingers. Maybe you had to sign those out.”
“Lackluster?” Jax said in mock offense, though he was still pondering why he couldn’t seem to move all that much from the doorway. “And I’ll have you know no one’s ever complained about my choking abilities,” he said with a trademark suggestive smirk. It had become rather fun to see what innuendos Lina would pick up on of his...if she ever did. Still, as he tried to reverse his actions and move further into the room, he found that was a no go as well. “I don’t think they’d keep me from going back in if they wanted me to sign something or return the armor.” His usual frown was coming back to his features, as a prickle of frustration made itself known.
“No one ever call you lackluster? I suppose everyone needs a first.” While, Lina was also curious as to why he couldn’t move, she was having a bit too much fun teasing him to truly think of reasons why. “They might have been too afraid of hurting your feelings.” She had never been the type to be able to pick up on sexual comments, the true meanings almost always flew over her head. She mocked his actions attempting to see if she was stuck as well.  When she found that she couldn’t move, she began to look around. Her eyes caught the small plant hanging above them after a few seconds. “I think we know why now,” She told him with a finger pointed at the ceiling.
I suppose everyone needs a first. Lina made making sexual implications almost too easy, but could he really make two back to back? Jax decided to take pity on her, instead focusing on the mistletoe above them. At least now he knew the source of his frustration. Considering the mistletoe above them, he found himself amused yet...concerned. He’d wanted to keep his friendship with Lina uncomplicated, as he rather treasured it— and kissing tended to complicate things. But at the same time...perhaps something like this would help to shake whatever weirdness was keeping him from speaking with Adriana after they’d slept together. What better way to prove that kisses and sex didn’t have to be any more than just that? “Who even put that there? What is it enchanted to keep us here, or something? Can you just reverse it or get rid of it?” He was still fairly unknowledgable when it came to the inner workings of magic.
Mistletoe was one of those Christmas traditions Lina didn’t understand. Why was kissing a tradition? It seemed rather odd to her, considering Christmas was meant to celebrate the birth of a baby religious figure. She wondered if people often kissed after babies were born. To her, a baby being born wouldn’t make her want to kiss people, but then again she had never seen a baby born. “Likely the people who decorated the Legion. Though, it does seem like something a child of Venus would do… Or your brother. He seems like a person who would enjoy seeing the chaos of this.” She squinted up to the mistletoe,“To be frank, I don’t think I can. Whoever would do this, would probably think about other magic users attempting to remove them. At least I would.”
Jax pursed his lips at the mention of Leo, making a mental not to find his older brother and shake him down for information of whether or not he had been responsible for this. Though he would most likely exclude names...as well as the fact that he had been the one caught in it. Leo didn’t need any ammo when it came to potentially teasing Jax over who he was or wasn’t kissing. So they’d have to kiss it seemed. He could only assume that’s what it was that the mistletoe wanted from them. As a person trying to preserve their friendship, he should have been disappointed— but as someone who had been long noticing how incredibly attractive Lina was...there was a small buzz of excitement that filled his limbs. “Alright, then. Let’s just get this over with. Can you at least stand on your toes or something? It’s hard enough to crane my neck to look down at you, let alone kiss you.” His words were smooth, but his heart rate had increased a good amount.
Lina wouldn’t be overly surprised if Leo had teamed up with one of his many friends to make this happen. She knew from the many sessions of her modeling for him that the man was far too fond of pranks. This seemed quite up his alley. She couldn’t help the light blush that rose to her cheeks, there were two people she had kissed in the world currently. Her ex-husband and Adriana. It wasn’t as though she was opposed to adding Jax to the list, but she was suddenly nervous that this would make things very different. “I didn’t ask to be short, just like you didn’t ask to be born a giant,” She teased, as smoothly as she could. Yet, she didn’t go to her tiptoes, her nervous heart pounding too hard in her chest to follow his instructions at the moment. “Perhaps, I want you to work for it.” Her teasing wasn’t helping her nervousness at all, but she was attempting to keep normalcy between them in the current moment.
The blush that rose to Lina’s cheeks was unexpected, and it caught both Jax and his emotions by surprise as the light coloring of her face made a strong tug of endearment take hold of him. It gave him the unexpected realization that he wanted to make this sweet, a form of kissing he was not as practised with as opposed to the usual heat-filled ones he’d often shared before, though he’d still dispensed his fair share of them. Sweet kisses worked wonders on convincing someone to give up a piece of information. But then she issued something of a challenge, and the thought was momentarily thrown out the window as yet another smirk played across his lips, and his arms rose to find a place on the wall on either side of her head as he slowly leaned down closer to her height. “Work for it?” he said in a low and gravelly voice. “You’re so confident that I’m just that desperate to give it to you? I should at least be asking you to say please.”
Her eyes widened as he leaned down, the blush getting just a shade darker, and her mouth opened just the tiniest bit. Lina couldn’t say she had been in this situation before and even if she had, she wasn’t sure it would feel like this. This made her limbs feel like they were buzzing. This made her stomach flutter with nervous little, purple butterflies. She had to swallow, even though her mouth had gotten a bit dry. “Yes, work for it.” Her voice had gotten softer, as though she was whispering him secrets. “Please work for it. If you’d be so kind.”
Gods, how was she so cute yet hot at the same time? It was already frying the edges of Jax’s brain, making it hard for him to remember why he’d even been reluctant to kiss her in the first place. But the tease was too alluring, and it was only in his nature to keep it up. “Hmmm,” he hummed as he brought himself even closer to her, acting as if he were considering her question. “No,” he said rather arrogantly. “I don’t think I will.” One of the hands he’d had against the wall brought itself to her chin, trying to turn Lina’s face upwards towards his own and he moved his thumb to trace a slow and lingering line across her bottom lip. “I’m just not sure you deserve it. You haven’t even asked me to kiss you or anything. How am I to be sure you really want it, Kolina?” Her rarely used full name slid from his lips, as if using more syllables of her name could give him more leverage.
There were few moments were Lina couldn’t think, where her mind went completely blank and all she could do was be in the moment. Somehow, Jax had very easily tapped into one of those moments. “Not even for me?” She asked, her eyes glancing down at his lips for a quick second, unable to think of clever words to come out of her mouth. Her mouth which would much rather be busy with something else. She let him easily turn her head, falling into putty in his hands. Her top lip went over the top of his thumb, trapping it between her two soft lips as her tongue lightly touched the pad of it. She let go to answer his question. “Will you kiss me, please? Or will you need something else to prove that I want it?”
The entire situation had taken a rather unexpected turn of events, and Jax couldn’t begin to think how he’d ever considered his original plan of teasing her with a gentle kiss and then getting her to ask for more. He knew he wouldn’t make it that far now, as she took the tip of his thumb into her mouth and he was certain all of the blood his brain had been using for planning rushed south, her words only further undoing him to a point where he was uncertain where the shield he’d been carrying had gone. In an instant his lips went to her’s, starting with the soft sweetness he’d originally been wanting to give her. But he was weak, and in a few quick moments, his feet were moving him forwards as he pressed his body against her, his hips making sure to pin her against the doorframe as his kiss grew hotter, and his teeth nibbled at her lip.
Had anyone told Lina this would be happening today, seer or otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to believe them. She wasn’t exactly the type to flirt, or even catch on to flirting, yet, here she was. Here she was, slipping Jackson Karavadra’s thumb into her mouth, as if that was something she was used to doing. She couldn’t help the small noise of appreciation that slipped from her when he finally kissed her. Her right hand made it’s way into his hair, tangling into the soft locks quickly. There had never been a moment in her life where she wanted nothing but to pull off someone’s clothing. Even with Adriana, Lina preferred going slowly, pulling things off one by one. With Jax, she thought she could actually tear his shirt in half to get it off him. She refrained herself, instead pushing her left hand up the back of his shirt to graze his skin lightly. She, again, couldn’t help a small moan that came from her when he nibbled her lip.
There was a part of Jax that wanted to go slow. To savor every bit of Lina that he was discovering in these moments, to uncover every single delicious sound she could make just as she’d done with the moan that had made his blood flow even faster. Despite his claims of being unsure of whether or not she deserved it, he knew he wanted to give her what she most certainly deserved. And if he hadn’t been certain, his mind had been made up as her hand found its way into his hair, a personal weakness of his, and the other snaked a trail up his back, causing a shiver to roll down his spine. He deepened the kiss without hesitation, taking advantage of her moan to slip his tongue past her lips. As another rush of need filled him, and his neck began to feel strained, he brought both hands beneath her legs to lift her against the wall, making the height difference between them non-existent with his hips still digging into her’s, and his hands finding a resting place cradling the ass his eyes had often inadvertently lingered on whenever she wore those ridiculously short shorts she seemed so fond of sleeping in. But there were nowhere to be found now, and he was fiercely aware that due to his lifting her, the skirt she’d been wearing had ridden up dangerously, leaving only a few layers of fabric separating them.
Lina had always been a slow and steady wins the race type of girl. Somehow, when Jax entered the race, she decided she didn’t need anymore self control. Slow and steady worked sometimes, however, this time it was not at all what was needed. What was needed was anything that would get Jax to continue to do this with her. She should have seen it coming, after that pillow fight they had. Looking back at it, it was ridiculously clear to her how much tension was building between the two of them. There was only so much Lina could pretend not to notice, today she had hit her limit. They both obviously had. She met his kiss with eagerness, letting him dominate her in that moment. A giggle bubbled through her when he lifted her up, finding it both very attractive and very funny that he had to. Her legs wrapped around his waist, pushing them even closer as the hand in his shirt moved to explore his abdomen. Fingernails lightly traced over his defined muscles. She rolled her hips, slowly, experimentally against his.
It had been silly to think Jax could avoid the tension building between them, no matter how much he’d been trying to in favor of preserving their easy friendship. Especially after their heated moment when he’d come to wake her up for training, and discovered that fucking her into her headboard didn’t sound like the most terrible idea. Of course, sex wasn’t something that was guaranteed to ruin a friendship, but he hadn’t wanted to risk it. After all, he’d slept with Adriana and now he hadn’t spoken to her since. Yet here he was with his lips mapping out Lina’s, and his hands quite full of her. And then she giggled, and he pulled her from her lips for a split second, a hidden part of him wanting to see the smile that had to come along with the sound, and soon his own very rare smile was across his lips. But it was fleeting, as an instant later Lina’s hand was once more wreaking havoc on him, though he was beginning to think it was her hips that would be the death of him as they brushed against the still growing hardness in his pants. “Fuck,” he breathed out, a somewhat uncharacteristic thing of him to do. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt this out of control, and in an instant he knew that he needed to gain some of it back. He could only handle so much and still keep a solid mind, so one of his hands trailed up her side as her legs and his hips kept her in place. His large hand was more than enough to take Lina’s two dainty ones between his own, and in an instant he was raising her wrists above her head against the wall, making sure she could do no more damage on his ability to resist...though her hips remained unrestrained. Immediately, he answered back with a strong thrust of his own, making sure that if she hadn’t felt the sizeable bulge in his pants before, she would most certainly would now. He followed with another quick thrust, not wanting to be outdone.
Sex wasn’t exactly a foreign concept to Lina. Even though, until the recent months, she didn’t really understand how enjoyable it come be. Adriana had taught her, quite easily, what good sex was. Still, she questioned if she could feel like that with a man. She had the feeling that, if it got to that point, Jax would show her just how good being with a man could be. She worried, of course, that this would change their friendship, that he would expect more from her than she was willing. Adriana knew her boundaries, knew that Lina didn’t want a relationship. Even if Jax didn’t know that yet, he would after this, she wasn’t going to make this an area of potential miscommunication. It wasn’t worth any drama that followed afterward. “Sorry,” She replied back to him sweetly, though both of them knew that in no way was she actually feeling apologetic. Her cheeks were flushed, her eyes wide, and her lips smirking when he put her hands above her head. There were moments where Lina could dominate a room, demand respect and attention. Which lead her to quite submissive in the bedroom. To see that Jax was so willing to take control wasn’t unexpected, but it was appreciated. At the thrusts, Lina knew that she had to have something to go along with their kissing. She would die if she couldn’t have anything else. “Jax… Jax, please.” Her voice still soft, but with the slightest edge of begging to it.
Jax had been wrong to think that just because he was cuffing her hands against the wall he would be given a clearer head, one with which he could really pay attention to Lina with. Instead, he was met with an almost pleading voice slipping from her lips, the begging tone coloring her words being one of his biggest weaknesses. But at the same time it was enough of a jolt to garner the usual response he gave to begging, which was to tease whatever partner he was with further. In an instant he’d let her to the ground, though he was sure to still maintain their incredible closeness. He lifted one of her legs to hook around his hip, using his now single free hand to begin sliding it’s way up the inside of her thighs, his fingertips tapping out a slow dance along the soft and smooth skin he found there. If he’d had his way, he’d be dropping to his knees and throwing her leg over his shoulder, giving her a different sort of kiss than one might be expecting to be had under the mistletoe, but a kiss nonetheless. But somewhere in the back of his lust-ridden mind he was aware of the semi-public venue they were in, and the fact that someone could walk by at any moment, even if they were in a fairly desolate area. But that didn’t stop him from bringing his hand to the top of her panties, tracing the very top of them with a single finger, and bringing his lips to her ear to give it a bite, as well as a rough whisper. “What was that, princess?” He slipped the finger barely beneath the band of them. “Did you say you needed something?”
The moment Jax let her back to the ground, Lina was worried that she had done the wrong thing, said the wrong thing. She figured her fears were wrongly placed, considering how close the two still were, yet they still found their way into her brain. She was quite pleased to see they were wrongly placed, as he took her leg up and around his hip again. Her lips dropped open again as his fingers traced her thigh, the anticipation she felt almost too much to bear already. She thought herself a woman train in the art of patience, yet here she was so impatient she thought she might just explode. If she could move her hands, she’d be roughly pulling his tie or even playing with his belt. She wanted him, even if it was in a slightly public place. She took a deep breath in when he bite her ear, letting it all out suddenly at the word use of princess. She hadn’t know that word could affect her as much as it did in that moment. “Yes. I need you. Please, daddy,” The word left her lips softer than the rest, before she could even think of the implications that came with it. She felt her cheeks burning, but she didn’t attempt to move away from him. Even with that out of her mouth, she was still deeply in the moment.
Jax’s hand slipped slipped further past the band, his long fingers teasing their way towards her center. And that’s when she let it slip. The single word that had his hand freezing above her, and him wondering whether he’d actually made up this entire scenario. It wasn’t as if he hasn’t been called daddy in bed before, but it most certainly wasn’t something he had been expecting from Lina, though the twitch his cock gave as she uttered the syllables made it rather clear that he was pleasantly surprised. So far, he could tell that she enjoyed his teasing, which was perfect because he loved giving it. So as a reward for her whispering that magic word, his hand retreated, and instead he ran a finger along the outside of the fabric, dipping it against her slit followed by an upwards thrust of the base of his palm. “Hmm?” He queried in between leaving a trail of hard lovebites down one side of her neck. Ones that she would have to cover later if she didn’t want nosy people asking invasive questions. “What do you need, baby? This?” The finger teasing her lips through the fabric dipped again, somewhat deeper than he’d gone before, trying to see if he could feel wetness seeping through her panties. “Use your words.” He let up on his grip on her wrists, letting them slip through his hand, and bringing his newly freed hand up the inside of her shirt, brushing against the underside of her breasts, entirely and pleasantly surprised to find that she was lacking a bra. Taking advantage of this newfound discovery, he let the rough pad of his thumb brush it’s way over a nipple, his lips going back to marking her neck. But perhaps an even bigger surprise was his fingers meeting warm metal. He’d suspected Lina had her nipples pierced, had many a thought about such a thing, but it was an entirely different story to have his suspicions confirmed. A second later he was giving the piercing a slight tug, testing her sensitivity.
Again, Lina worried she had said something wrong, though this time she thought she knew exactly what it was that made him pause. This was the issue Lina often faced when she was doing anything with anyone. Her lack of experience often left her a bit questionable in the art of dirty talk, it often left her questioning if she was doing the right thing. She opened her mouth, ready to apologize, when his contact returned and she couldn’t quite remember what she was even apologizing for. His movement made her let out a quiet moan, her head tilting back slightly as she did so. She had had one or two marks before, but nothing that felt like this before. In the moment, she didn’t mind them in the least, but later she knew she would be quite thankful for the fact that she had learned some cosmetic magic. There was no need for her legionnaires to know that she had gotten some. “Yes, that. Please.” She was sure that Jax could feel how wet she was, she was positive that she was absolutely soaking. Lina overall was extremely sensitive to other people’s touch, but especially on her breasts. She couldn’t help the small gasp, then moan when he tugged on her piercing. “I want more of this.”
Jax was entirely pleased with the moans emitting from Lina. He knew a vocal partner was a happy one, and making his bed partners happy was a badge he wore with pride. And if her sounds of pleasure weren’t enough to confirm her enjoyment, the dampness between her legs was, and it brought a smirk to his lips, proud that he could do such things to her. He figured she’d begged enough to be given what she wanted, though he’d still be doing it his way. All of his bed partners had enjoyed his methods, all cumming harder after his prolonged and teasing foreplay brought them to the brink repeatedly before he let them cascade over the edge. Jax wanted to give Lina the same treatment. She deserved to cum hard and long. His fingers roughly pushed the fabric of her underwear aside, finally letting his skin met her’s as they traced her slit, getting her ready for slipping a digit inside her, though he was careful to touch her everywhere other than where she would really need it, still teasing her. At the same time he gave her nipple piercing another pull, this time harder and sharper as he wondered how far he could push her, then rolling it between his fingers. “More? Aren’t you a greedy little one?”
There were many things Lina saw herself doing in the future. Becoming a senator, having children, meeting someone that she could spend the rest of her life with. Jax fingering her in a doorway, was not something she had seen herself doing. Not that she wasn’t fun, no Lina was having a great time. Really being in a semi-public space just made it all the more exciting to her. Her hand went back to his hair, fingers twisting into it tighter than before. Her other hand went to grip his shoulder, long fingernails keeping a hold of him. She couldn’t help the thought that kept rolling through her mind, this was really fucking hot. “Fuck,” She barely whispered the curse as he pushed past her panties. There were very few moments where she thought cursing was appropriate, this was one of the most appropriate moments. It still made her giggle, though, hearing herself curse. She certainly wasn’t used to hearing it from herself. She let out a gasp when he tugged her piercing, the hand in his hair tightening further. “Yes, more. Please. I know I’m greedy.” She bite her lip, looking up at him as she said it.
Jax’s own eyes became more lidded as he felt Lina’s hands tugging at his hair, a satisfied hum emitting from him, almost like a purr. And there was that giggle again, and another smile was earned from Jax as his guard was fairly down at the moment, rather preoccupied with trying to make Lina come undone. “What, you think this is funny?” He thought her laughing was cute, but he couldn’t resist adding a tinge of intimidation to his words. “Do you think it’s gonna be funny when you’re cumming on my fingers?” As Lina became louder, he became more aware of their semi-public status, and he went back to kissing her, hoping that his lips might prove to be a good silencer. Meanwhile, the hand on her breast switched to the one he hadn’t touched yet, giving it the same treatment he’d given to the first. Then one of his fingers paused just outside her center as he found her clit with his thumb and began to draw a small circles around it, making sure not to make direct contact. He was certain she was wet enough to take one of his fingers, but he wanted to hear her once more as he broke their kiss for a moment. “What do you want, Lina?”
Giggling was a rare sound for the female centurion to make, however, Lina was learning, she liked giggling a lot in bed. She couldn’t help it really, she would just suddenly giggle during any sexual moment. Adriana could attest to that, she knew at this point, Lina would almost always giggle, especially during foreplay. She couldn’t imagine it was the sexiest thing for her to giggle during sex, but she really couldn’t help the small, bell like noises that came from her. Just like she couldn’t help when her breathing got heavier when he asked that question. “I think I might be too preoccupied to giggle when I cum, sir.” She wasn’t exactly sure where all these names she was calling were coming from, but she wasn’t minding them. She kissed him with eagerness, lips hungry for his. Lina loved kissing, that was another something she had only recently learned. That she loved kisses. She let out soft little gasps against his lips as his fingers teased her. Her soft voice answered him again. “Your fingers. I want you to make me cum. Please.”
“Such a good girl,” Jax murmured before reclaiming her lips after her utterance of sir, lavishing in the shudder it had sent through him. “Good girls should get something in return, shouldn’t they?” And just like that he was inserting the tip of his finger inside her, though he was surprised when the entire digit slipped into her in a fast and fluid motion, a testament to how wet she was. “Look at you— so fucking eager for it, I don’t even have to stretch you out.” He only waited a single second before he began pumping it into her, his thumb still drawing it’s path around her clit before adding the slightest pressure to the top of it.
Lina let out a pleased sigh when called her a good girl. She was starting to see that was quite the fan of the names he was calling her as well, especially princess and good girl. She couldn’t explain it, but it was making the entire situation even hotter to her. “Yes, daddy.” Her hand tightened on his hair again, before she moved the hand on his shoulder to tug on his tie, pulling him forward so she could kiss him again. Her hand let go of his tie, slowly tracing lower. Her nails tracing down his abdomen muscles through his shirt slowly. A soft moan was muffled by his lips when his thumb pressed against her clit.
Jax didn’t want to go too hard on her clit at first, knowing that some girls were unbearably sensitive there, but the same couldn’t be said for his finger. His pace was mediate, but his moves were strong and deep, the largeness of his hands serving him rather well. Again that word that made him feel like a man stuck on a desert island. In desperate need of water and surrounded by something he couldn’t drink, on the edge, and most importantly...hot. His pace increased as a thank you to her, giving her nipple piercing the sharpest tug he had yet as he continued their kiss.
Jax was blowing the expectation Lina had for men out of the water. Honestly, she was wondering at this point if her ex-husband was just really horrible or if Jax was just really good. She let out a louder moan, her chest pressing into his hand further without asking her brain for permission first. Her fingers dragged lower, stopping at his pant hem, playing with the edge. Her fingernail traced across the top for a few moments, before her hand moved to clumsily play with his belt.
As her hand played with his belt, Jax realized he hadn’t actually thought about whether or not he would fuck her against the doorframe of an underused armory. Would he? As the sound of her moan rang in his ears, and anticipation of her getting his pants open began to mount, he had his answer. He’d fuck her anywhere— anytime, semi-public doorframes included. But just then...the unthinkable happened. His ears picked up the faintest of footsteps somewhere in the distance.
Lina was a bit desperate to get his belt undone, her fingers working overtime to undo it. Just as she got it to open, her fingers still working to undo the button underneath, she had to pause. She pulled back the slightest bit, her lips still touching his as she whispered,“Someone is coming.” There was a thought in the back of her head screaming at her to care, but lust driven Lina wasn’t listening. Instead of truly stopping, as she should have, her palm began to rub against him through his pants.
Jax knew he should pull away and fix his appearance, try and act as if he hadn’t been finger-fucking Lina underneath some mistletoe. And yet here he was, immediately going to slip another finger to join his first as the footsteps slowly grew louder. “I know. It’s about to be you cumming.” Her hand rubbing against him was something that could only be described as divine, and he was sincerely hoping this person would turn around and he’d get to see her cute little hand wrapped about his dick. But at the same time— he couldn’t resist grabbing at her wrist, bringing it up to the wall above her once more. “Don’t make me tie you up, princess.” The control only made this all the more delicious. He moved his fingers in a come hither motion inside her, searching for her g-spot and gave a smirk against her lips as he found the tell-tale little bump inside her. Jax’s pace increased to something that could only be described as frantic, his thumb still working her clit expertly. “Come on baby, you can do it. Cum for me.”
A noise that could only be described as a disappointed whine came from Lina when he took her wrist in his hand. “I want to feel you,” She told him, that slight whine coming up through her voice again. Though she couldn’t really say that she would oppose being tied up, though that would be something she would rather happen in an actual bedroom. She moaned against his lips once more, nipping at his lower lip afterward. Between the movements of his hand and the approaching footsteps, Lina knew that she was going to cum very soon. Her hand tightened in his hair again, her breathing heavy as she nodded. Her small frame began to shake just as a tiny bit, her orgasm just a second away.
She was close, but so were the footsteps that continued to approach. But Jax never backed down, and getting Lina to cum was no exception. Now would have normally been the time he would slow his movements, bringing his partner back down only to build them up again, torturing them in the best of ways. But they had a time limit, and Jax was not going to leave without seeing Lina lose herself. Her words only stoked the fire inside him. Gods, he wanted to feel her hand on him. Releasing the hand he’d used to trap her wrist against the wall once more, he instead made better use of it as he took hold of her nipple once more, pinching it hard between his fingers as his other hand worked her pussy with even more determination. “Now, Lina. Cum.” His voice was insistent and a partial low growl, as if he could order her into an orgasm.
The moment her hand was released, Lina’s fingers went back to the front of his pants, palming him through them. Really, in an ideal world, right after she came, she would drop to her knees in front of him to get him to cum too. Instead, she had to make do with their situation, which was to simply feel him over his pants. Her hand tugged hard against his hair, harder than she had pulled before, as her eyes rolled back. Even though their kisses were smothering the moans, she was sure she was still a bit loud. Her body shook as she came and she swore she was seeing stars.
Seeing Lina fall apart was truly a sight to witness, and Jax continued his motions through her orgasm, though the hand on his bulge was becoming completely distracting. Fuck, what he would do for the approaching person to turn around so they could continue their romp. He could only imagine her orgasm would be even more enjoyable if she was having it while sat on his cock. ‘There’s a good girl,” he whispered gruffly against her lips. But as soon as she stopped shaking, he took his fingers from her abruptly, stepping away after untangling himself from her and fixing her skirt, and smoothing a hand through his no doubt now unruly hair...just as the person finally made their way around the corner of the hallway and into their line of sight. “Legionnaire Adams,” he said as a form of greeting to them, giving a nod and trying his best to look as if he hadn’t just been fingering his fellow centurion, and wanting to do much more.
Lina suddenly realized how caught they might look and Jax’s belt and pants button being completely undone was not helping. There really did not need to be anymore attention drawn to the front of his pants. She pushed herself to be in front of Jax, hastily attempting to do his belt, having to stop half way through as Adams came around. At least, she was blocking the view a bit Her face was incredibly flushed, but she used that to her advantage, changing her face to look frustrated. She suddenly began speaking to Jax about the Senate fire, because if there was one thing everyone wanted to know about it was the fire, and she hoped that that would make the legionnaire more curious about their discussion than their appearance. “Like I was saying, now that everyone knows what caused the fire, we have to - Legionnaire. Hello.” She said curtly. She grabbed Jax’s upper arm, hoping the motion would keep Adams’s eyes up,“We should continue this elsewhere.”
Jax had already been formulating a plan to fix his pants, but he shouldn’t have doubted Lina and her quick thinking. He went with her plan effortlessly, as if they were a well-oiled machine, though mostly it was his fingers that were best lubricated with Lina’s juices still coating them. “Of course. Let me just take care of this mistletoe really quick,” He said with an upwards glance towards the little plant that had started this all. “Look away, Adams,” he said with a grin, before swooping down to give Lina a lingering kiss. Of course, they’d already more than fulfilled the mistletoe’s quota, but Adams didn’t know that, and he couldn’t resist a last tease. He retreated, his pants and belt now perfectly fastened as he’d used the advantage of making Adams look awkwardly away to fix them. “Don’t get stuck under here with someone, Adams. It won’t let you leave until you follow tradition.”
Lina looked up at him rather amused, a small smile going over her lips and a small giggle left her. “What a Christmas tradition,” She said lightly. A bit overcome with the afterglow, she cupped his cheek in her hand as they kissed. Obviously, to really sell the show, that definitely why she did it. She ran a hand through her hair after the kiss, smiling at Adams,“It truly will get you stuck in here until you kiss them. Alright, come along Jax, we have things to talk about.” She grabbed his hand to start bringing him out into the hallway.
Jax followed after her, the warmth of her hand on his surprising...but not the most unpleasant thing he’d ever felt. He retrieved the shield from where he had abandoned it on the ground, holding it in front of him to help conceal the rather large boner Lina and their activities had given him. As soon as they were around the corner though, he tugged back on the hand she’d put in his, bringing her silently into a storage closet in the hallway. One with a door that he could lock from the inside. Almost immediately, his hand was back up her skirt, picking up where he had left off as a finger once more teased the outside of her slit. “Wanna see how many more times you can cum before your legs turn to jelly? I have a feeling I might even beat my latest record if I eat you out,” he said— referring to her most recent orgasm.
Lina shouldn’t have been surprised when he tugged her in a completely different direction than she was leading him, yet Lina was. She let out another giggle the moment they’re in the closet, feeling a bit like a naughty teen. Her hands both started to undo his belt and as soon as his zipper and button were undone, her hand slipped into his pants, rubbing against him through his underwear. She grinned up at him, another small giggle coming from her,“I welcome your attempt. I’m curious now, to see how much you can beat it by.”
Her hand had been sweet when it was in Jax’s, but now it was a different kind of sweet as it rubbed him, and he let out a small hiss between his teeth. “Fuck— Lina,” his need was obvious in his voice, though her challenge only renewed his determination to get her to cum once more. “You’re gonna have to stop that if you want me to make that attempt. Or I’ll have to make you stop it. Then again...you were such a good girl. Maybe you deserve to have your own chance at beating the record.” Nevertheless, his fingers were once more easing their way into her.
Lina’s lips curled into a sweet smile, as her hand kept going. “Maybe I want you to cum with me.” One finger pulled slowly at the band of his underwear, as Lina desperately wanted undress him. His hiss really only just spurred her on and so did his threat of making her stop. Almost like she was daring him to capture her hands again, her fingers slid into his underwear. She couldn’t help the small gasp that came from her,“Fuck me. Make me cum that way. Please.”
Jax was torn. He so desperately wanted to fuck Lina as she’d requested, but making it hard or her was too much fun. He took away her hand that wasn’t rubbing against him and twisted it around her back before pushing her into the wall of the closet, turning her so his chest was against her back, almost as if he were arresting her. “You want me to fuck you? Then we do it my way.” He’d already fingered her against the doorframe, wasn’t fucking her against the wall a step up?
As soon as he turned her around, Lina began to press her ass against him. “I want you to fuck me. I want you to fuck me until my legs can’t hold me up.” She rubbed against him again, so desperate for him to be in her already. She opened her mouth to say something else, when she heard the running footsteps and calls for Centurion Valla. She wanted to ignore it, but she was rather sure that was Xavier and he sounded worried. She turned her head to look at Jax a bit desperate.
Jax heard the call the same time she did, and though he didn’t recognize the voice, he could hear the urgency in it. Jax knew that if it had been one of his own legionnaires, he’d already be out the door— ready to help. “Gods be damned,” he cursed under his breath, frustration rather obvious in his tone. “I’m assuming you want to check on that?” He loosened his grip on her reluctantly, though he most certainly wouldn’t say no if she asked him to continue.
Lina swallowed and nodded,“Xav wouldn’t try to find me unless it was really important.” Lina bit her lip, feeling a bad about leaving him in a closet. “I have to go. Listen, meet me at the lake later. We can go... Swimming.” Unable to stop herself, she leaned up suddenly and placed a last kiss on him. “And you have to stay in here. I don’t need those questions.”
Jax gave a disappointed sigh, though he knew that the responsibilities of a centurion and the safety of the Cohort always came first. Her mention of swimming brought a smirk to his lips though. “Swimming. Right.” They both knew that there would be little swimming to be done if Jax showed up later tonight. Though it wasn’t a question of whether or not he was going.  But then her lips were on his and it was a rather sweet surprise. Jax returned her kiss eagerly, still rather miffed that their time had been cut short. “I’ll see you there, then.” He leaned back against the wall, making it clear that he would be discreet with leaving once she left.
Language biography -My Chinese adventure
Tumblr media
1. Here I am 18 years old
So, here I am, 18 years old confused monolingual… Finished my community college just to realize that I hate spending so much time in front of computer screens, writing code at nights, powered by coffee and greasy junk food.
 18 years old meant that I was an adult, at least both I and law of the country agreed on that… I could buy cigarettes, alcohol and tickets to other countries even if my parents were against it. I didn’t need to ask anyone’s permission. It felt like freedom. Freedom comes with responsibility, but that’s the whole different story.
 2.  It was time for something big It was time for something big.But for what? When I was younger I liked to travel to nearby cities by busses and hitchhiking. It was a mixture of being lost, on purpose… and finding something new after every trip. Traveling was my form of learning and escaping from problems at the same time.
 This time I was really lost.No direction. Hitchhiking for a week didn’t help. Yes, I tried. I needed a new medicine. I tried, like many of us nowadays, to find the answer online. Almighty Google knows it all.I didn’t know what to ask. So I decided to look at my bookmarks.
There was a website I read for more than 4 years. Or so. I guess. It is called Magazeta. They also do a podcast. Not some goofy cast, but LaowaiCast. They discuss everything about China through the eyes of laowais, speak Chinese fluently and seem to have all kinds of fun there in the mysterious country.
3. I decided to join them
I decided to become one of them, join this strange tribe. To become a laowai. A proper living in China laowai. And not an expat, who just hangs out with westerners, but a Chinese-speaking laowai. I figured out how much money I needed to study Chinese for a year, found 2 jobs that’d allow me to earn enough in 3 months. June, July and August. I became a taxi-driver, and began to work at a construction site. Not bad for a guy who majored in programming, eh? At least, there were no computers.At all. No screens, not even sunscreen. None of that, nada! I kept researching my new dreamland, China. Almighty Google told me that for my budget and for language learning Top2 options were Tianjin because Mandarin there is very standard, but it is cheaper than Beijing and Shenzhen, the most Mandarin-speaking city in Guangdong. I chose Shenzhen. It’s tropical and close to Hong Kong. I watched many Hong Kong movies as a kid and was interested in Kung Fu.
After working for 14 hours a day for 3 months I hated my jobs enough and was ready to fly to my dreamland. So I did. I kissed my parents and my girlfriend good bye and started my new scary laowai adventure. 4.  I didn’t learn Chinese before went to China I didn’t learn any Chinese before I went to Shenzhen because I read online that it’d destroy my pronunciation forever. So I followed advice of someone Almighty Google led me too. I was proud that I would’t learn broken pronunciation. Stupid. After a few, quite a few days of trains and planes, I arrived in Shenzhen. It was another planet. Humid, incomprehensible, green, terrifying and extremely friendly. No Kung Fu skills required. Beginner friendly.
I ordered a service of an interpreter who would meet me in the airport and help me to get to the hotel, the first and the last time in my life. He was quite surprised when I asked if he has a knife or at least keys when we got to an ATM. It was hard to explain why I sewed my bank-card in my pocket, but he understood that in my country people like to pick pockets. Not the best advertisement for a country, but I was determined and didn’t want to let thieves destroy my plan. 5.  Soon I didn’t go to lessons at all So I got a dorm room, figure out where I can buy pillow and started to learn Chinese in class, but soon I found that I was not able to say tones right and I was late for my writing classes on purpose, to skip that annoying dictation where I’d make a mistake in every character. Soon I didn’t go to lessons at all. I joined Wing Chun classes and hung out with other laowais and Chinese folks instead. My roommate also taught me some Chinese, especially survival kind of stuff or how to ask for cigarettes on the street, his teaching skills were particularly awesome when he was drunk. Sometimes when I met my classmates in campus they asked me why I gave up on learning Chinese, I said that I don’t go to classes, but I still learn Chinese. I hated that one guy who said he learns Chinese just to read stuff and that he doesn’t care about speaking since there’s no reason to talk with Chinese people, what a prick! I don’t hate him anymore. At that time I called my approach “just learn”. It meant learning without homework and tone drills. 6.  Laowai life was fun I spent 4 months like this. I was so busy practicing wing chun, playing football, buying fake shoes, hanging out and exploring Shenzhen that sometimes I forgot to eat for 2 or 3 days. That’s why I sometimes stole my roommate’s sushi that he’d get for free every night. Thanks to well-cooking people who lived in the girls’ dormitory, I was never hungry. I think I looked so skinny they just wanted to feed me on the level of instincts… Long story short, laowai life was fun, colorful and cheap for those who lived in campus. At least, it was for me. For 4 months or so. And then it was over.  The End. Game over. I had to go back home for what I call family reasons. I didn’t finish my 1 year Mandarin course. It was also hard to get my deposit money back, but I did. It was really good for my Mandarin skills. My WeChat was full of contacts. I packed all the tea, gifts I got from strangers in my friend’s dorm and stinky clothes. I was and wasn’t ready to leave. I told my friends that I’d be back for sure, which I doubted.
 The END or To be Continued? That is the question. At that moment, I connected language to living in that country. 7.  I missed China and Chinese Don’t live in China = don’t learn Chinese. So, obviously I gave up learning languages and broke up with my girlfriend. Luckily, I found a lazy job where I could play my phone almost all the time. For several months I just lived in my memories about China and felt some hole growing inside me. I didn’t understand where it was coming from. One cannot go and live abroad and then come back to the farm and pretend it didn’t happen. It is going to change anyone, no matter how hard this naïve person is trying to ignore it. I needed to fill that emptiness. I tried a few things. They didn’t work. Until one day I saw an ad about learning Chinese just by listening. Like literally sitting on my bottom, which I was already doing, I was even getting paid for that, and learning… Chinese! The language of my dream/nostalgia land. I was nowhere near fluency at that moment. Upperbeginner at best. I missed China and Chinese Pod became my new way to connect to the land of rice and cuteness. That emptiness inside was filled. Except for … it wasn’t. But things were getting better, way better. I felt alive again. Or maybe it was that nice Turkish coffee I was drinking while I listened to Chinese Pod? Then I thought that just listening, even good listening was not enough for that hole somewhere inside me. So I thought I need… people! But I still wanna sit on my bottom so if I find people online, I don’t need to spend extra time after job. Multitasking for the win. 8.  I started my new job I found hellotalk and some similar apps with similar names. Hellotalk was the best one, but at that time it was slow, sometimes a message was sent 4 hours or a day later, so I stole people from there by asking their whatsApp number. I started to realize that the missing ingredient in my life, besides people, was Chinese language. I also realized that escapism and dreaming about faraway lands was not an ideal solution. In search of a perfect combination of people and languages, I decided to join a university. I wanted to study Chinese, but they told me that they have teachers, but not so many students want to learn Chinese. Interpretation was not available that year. What a weird year! The only choice was teaching English, which sounded tasty at that moment, since I also wanted to change my job at that moment. I asked for all the details about exams and stuff. It was nice except for the fact that that stinking girl tricked me and I was preparing for master degree entrance exams instead of what I really needed because I was the first one who wanted to join that university that year and she didn’t really know what to tell me. It was a surprise, but I passed it super well, like top2 or something. Probably because I prepared for something way more difficult, thanks to that stinking girl. My score was a big surprise for me, since I’ve never been a top student. At the same time I started my new job. I was a tutor. Teaching kids English.1 on 1. Learning my major by practice. It was awesome. Language became my bread and peanut butter. 9.  I found my jam. It was olla. But I still needed jelly! Peanut butter sandwiches are fine, but they’re nothing like peanut butter jelly ones!
That Sunday I planned to have some rest for my brain and body. So I got a lot of nesquik and scrolled mindlessly through countless web pages full of memes and stupid videos. Until I saw an ad for a language learning app on some page where people who learn English hang out. In comments I read that most users were Chinese. These comments were written in a negative tone, but for me it was pure treasure. Here, I found my jam. It was olla. By that time, hellotalk and its clones were deleted and forgotten for a long time, but I gave olla as much of my precious SD storage and space on the screen as it wanted. I liked it for no particular reason, as I thought back then. Now I do understand that other apps couldn’t provide this kind of sense of community as olla did. It was alive, lively and vivid.
10.  It was addictive
It was a perfect place for me to practice my languages. My way to do it was to provoke people, often it meant arguing with them. I learned to be provocative in many languages. I also learned to pretend to be from different countries. The most difficult one was Australia. Controversy and gossip were my fuel. It was not just any drama, it was international. Better than Argentinian TV series! I tried many ways to catch attention, I hope that psychologists and my future employers don’t read how much of an attention seeker and drama queen I was. A few times I deleted an app and said it was shitty publically, while actually I loved it but was busy studying in my university and knew that I don’t have enough will power to keep studying while olla was still on my phone, it’d be too much of a distraction. It was addictive. Before I deleted it, I posted my email on olla plaza. Jessica was worried or surprised or something of this nature and wrote me an email. She helped me to deliver my messages to my biggest language buddy. It was one directional isolation and made me way more mysterious than I’ve ever been before. Because of me being such a d... dumbass, many people hated me, but many liked me. Many mentioned that they missed me, I knew it through gossip and screenshots. Imagine the size of my ego at that moment… After a while, I realized what other apps lacked completely and why they didn’t deserve my storage and screen space. Sense of community + drama, gossip and controversy (people crave it) + many people from different countries in the same room. Cultures don’t merge this way in 1 on 1 conversations. Other platforms also have many people from different countries,but they try to find you a match, a perfect partner. Perfect is boring. In olla people didn’t match perfectly and it was beautiful. It was colorful. It was my home anywhere I went. 11.  I couldn’t stay like this forever I couldn’t stay like this forever. All of us eventually get boring, also known as serious. I was a university student after all. Gotta be pretentious and stuff. They call it professional. I started to read a lot of SLA (Second Language Acquisition) research, just like people read news or comics. As a result, I realized that my“just learning” intuitive approach to languages was actually consistent with research. Even gossip and drama. But mostly community and compelling input. It is kind of the same thing.
Not only I pretty much filled that emptiness by languages, I also came to the point where my experience met science\research. Like yin and yang.
12.  I started to plan to get back to China After that, I decided to get my life together again and I started to plan how to get back to China. I didn’t get any good idea how to do it, but I started to save money and told my classmates and buddies that most probably I will go to China again. Fake it till you make it works every time. I also told some folks on olla about my plan. I really do consider olla to be my hometown and I did find real life friends there. I think it’s safe to say that I spent more time on olla than with my real life friends. I also spent a lot of time with my offline friends, but they can be less available than something tiny in my cheap phonethat opens the door to my friends. Wait, olla is real, so it’s also real life. People there are real. Language learning there is real as well. Wrong dichotomy. So I spent more time in my olla hometown than in another one because it felt warmer and closer.
My best language buddy who already became my friend decided to help me make my second laowai life happen much faster than I imagined and invited me to join olla team. I pretended that I am so cool and need to think for 1 day or so, like it is not a big deal, when in reality it was dreams come true type of deal, at that moment I was already packing my small backpack and getting ready for the second chapter of China. This time it was Guangzhou.
To be continued.
A Bloom In Time Ch 6
(Warning: Death scene in this chapter. I do not know Snatcher's or The Florist's real names so Im making my own headcannon names for the two. Also mentioning of Death near the end of the chapter.)
You may have heard this story but not in the correct version you might've thought. Gather around children and I'll tell you the story of a Prince of Shadows, A Queen of Golden Hair, and an honorary Princess of Flowers. And it all took place one thousand years ago. Way before you or I was born.
Once upon a time there was a planet called Subconia and there are many different cultures and people who live on this world, but the two kingdoms we shall explore was two kingdoms that don't exist anymore. A thousand years ago there lived two kingdoms who lived side by side. The MUCH larger Kingdom Of Subcon, and the tinier Kingdom of Subconette. Though these two kingdoms shared similar names and people, they were worlds apart. A lone Queen ruled over Subconette while a kind King and Queen ruled over Subcon. Years passed as the kingdoms continued to stand, until one fateful day three children were born. A beautiful little princess with hair of the sun was born to the lone queen and a handsome baby boy of equal beauty was born to the Subcon kingdom. Their names? Princess Vanessa and Prince Philip of the Subcon Kingdoms.
Did you all remember me mentioning a third child born? Ah! Good. You're paying attention to my old tale.
Yes. A third child was born, but not of royal blood. A young girl, with hair of rose red and eyes of ocean blue was born to a small farming family just on the outskirts of the kingdom of Subcon, but it was fate that decided her role in the future. Her name? Poppy Rose Bloomington...But I'm getting a little ahead of myself aren't I? Let us proceed with the two lives of the royals before the three intertwined.
As months went by, the Prince and Princess's parents deemed it so that the two would be betrothed in holy matrimony, a union to bring the two kingdoms together at last and bring peace to them all. As the amount of years grew, so did the beauty of the princess. Her skin, was very fair and her hair a beautiful yellow rivalling any gold treasure, with a voice as tender and soft as velvet. Not a woman in the kingdoms could rival her own beauty....Or so she thought. Ever since she was small her mother always made sure Vanessa could have anything a young lady wanted. Servants, good food, exotic jewelry, expensive dresses, anything was hers at a moment's demand and she relished in the fact of being a perfect princess like in those fairytales her mother always read her, always fantasizing about her perfect fairytale like with her Prince Charming and having that perfect white wedding. And that spoiled thinking would ultimately lead this girl to doom. Her mother building her up so and giving in to every request only made her want what was truly a fantasy. An actual fairytale perfect life, whether anybody liked it or not. She fell hard for the handsome young prince of brown hair and handsome features. From the time she could understand to speak, her mother always told her Prince Philip was her betrothed, and were to her married when they grew.  Her betrothed.....Her Prince. ALL HERS AND NO ONE ELSE'S!!! She would always be the kind Princess her Prince deserved and he WOULD be the Prince she knew he could be.
Prince Philip was more clear minded than given credit for. The young prince was a kind hearted young boy who cared for his people greatly and wanted to better himself and his country. Therefore it would only make sense for him to want to study the laws governing his kingdom so he may better them. And so his studies began. From a young age the boy studied laws enough to make his parents proud he was taking his studies seriously and at the same time was often taken on visits to meet his future beloved. It was love at first sight....at least at first it was. She was so beautiful and kind and wanted to spend time with him all the time. It was a kinda god send for someone who had no siblings or other children to play with. Having someone your age around you could play and talk to with was exciting. And her beauty only grew over time as well as his love for her, how couldn't he love someone as beautiful and kind as Vanessa? She was perfect.....Too perfect. Things couldn't last forever unfortunately. Vanessa's poor mother had started coming down with an illness that slowly started to make her waste away as her daughter grew and so he tried to be there of course and help console his future beloved, which is where fate intertwined these fated lovers. You see, if there was one thing that Vanessa loved more than anything was attention. Whether it be from her servants telling her how beautiful she was, or compliments....She LOVED attention from her Prince and ...'lightly suggested' it would be nice to receive things. And things she received, flowers mostly.
Did you notice how I pointed out flowers? Good eye.
You see, Poppy was always born with a green thumb, being from a long line of farmers of course helped. She could grow anything from potatoes to peach trees, but ever since she was small, she had always had one love. Flowers! Didn't matter what kind, she always loved growing them just as much as Vanessa loved receiving beautiful flowers from her prince. Which lead us to the fated meeting of the Florist. Poppy worked her whole life to build up her own flower stand and by the age of fifteen she had achieved it. A small flower stand within the Subcon Village, filled with lots of Merry children and near the famous vacation home of the famous Princess Vanessa. Sometimes she'd be lucky enough to see the beautiful princess walking around the village talking to the children but one fateful day to Poppy's surprise a young handsome man with brown hair and a golden crown on his head came to visit the small stand of flowers. Buying the most beautiful roses Poppy had before leaving. And this young ones is how a friendship began. Almost everyday of the week the prince would stop by the Florist's stands and pick out a new bundle of pretty flowers for his mourning and beautiful princess and everyday she would smile and talk to the prince. Business sales went up and she was giddy a well known man had taken interest in her flowers. Then he started asking what she'd recommend he'd get a lady since she was one, she proudly pointed to daises, and tulips, and tigerlillies. So many to choose from, so many to give. Gradually their conversations turned more business like and an unlikely bond began to weave with them. A friendship he had never had beyond any personal life or otherwise. He learnt her name too. Poppy. Named after those cute red poppy flowers she loved so much, with a spark and feisty temper to match. Made him laugh a couple times when she pointed out something snarky he liked. Slowly melting his heart with her passion and tales of hard work she had to do to get where she was know. And he admired her for that.
Unfortunately fairytales don't last beyond pages, and the Prince learnt that the hard way when Vanessa convinced her still ill mother to make a new law. Telling him he's become fat and shouldn't eat bacon anymore to watch his health. Poppy was confused at such a ridiculous law and her friend was obviously upset about it, but he passed it off as Vanessa wanting to make sure he was healthy as her mother was still dying slowly. Then slowly by surely things only began to get worse. Vanessa wanting attention was fine and he vowed to give her all the attention she deserved, but now she demanded ALL his attention ever and always began scrutinizing him for not being Princely enough now that he began his advanced studies and would go back home within a few months time to finish his more difficult studies under one of the kingdom's best tutors. His only escape was when Vanessa was discussing her future duties with her mother and also taking her Princess classes with her tutors. He was then free to walk around and do as he pleased if only for a few hours a day, those were spent reading or walking around the village, but he learnt pretty quickly to bring some kind of gift or trinket back for her as an excuse for why he'd been out. Vanessa's jealousy could rival that of a child. He never intended for it to happen of course but the strain of the relationship getting to him and the way he looked so tired all the time. Barely smiling when he came in to get Vanessa more flowers. Against her better judgement, Poppy asked why he wasn't smiling anymore and let him rant about his day. Which was a daily thing for them after that. Him coming in, Poppy letting him rant, then he'd buy flowers and leave. Rinse and repeat for the next two years to a few weeks before their twentieth birthdays with Poppy cracking jokes and trying to be helpful and the prince slowly growing more and more fond over her unlady-like snorts and giggles, to her bold statements, to her bright smile always trying to cheer up her friend. All the while Vanessa continued to go down this rabbithole of perfection. He still made excuses for her. Her mother was dying, she was going to be Queen soon, she wasn't ready-.....Well for being Queen that is. Vanessa had already planned out their lives together and even built a BLOODY nursery for their future child that wasn't even born yet. One in her castle and one in the mansion he was staying at, but Vanessa would visit very often. Even stay a few days.
But what really concerned his friend was the hair incident. When he came in with his usual shoulder length brown hair was chopped up and a bad bleached blonde color, with brown patches here and there. He claimed he was alright. Vanessa just wanted to surprise him by doing his hair while he slept. He could tell his friend was concerned and told him as much. He smiled knowing at least someone cared about his well being. Then came the last month he stayed and then off he went back home he went. To spend his final year of tutoring under the wonderful Lady Winchester. She was a kind old lady who taught his father before him and knew the laws better than anyone. He bid his last day there to his beloved Vanessa who cried and begged him not too, and once he fled her clutches......uh Hugged her good bye, he couldn't help but feel very releived he'd get to spend a whole year away from her as hash as it may be. But he did make sure to bid his friend good bye as well. Having one last conversation and sharing a couple jokes before he finally left.
That year would be the hardest for our ill fated lovers and the florist friend. While the Prince was able to breath and see his loved ones again, he couldn't help but miss her. Not Vanessa surprisingly but with all the serious laws and classes he missed their little visits when she always cheered him up and her beautiful smile and that passion she always had for anything she set her mind too.....It wasn't very long before he came to the sudden realization. The prince had slowly but surely fallen in love with the young red headed gal. So many emotions hit him at once. Happiness and guilt being the biggest two. For one, he was engaged to Vanessa, betrothed to be married a few months after all his studies are over. He couldn't go against his parents or break Vanessa's heart after so many years of being together, and she needed him. They had been exchanging letters and learnt her mother had sadly passed during an accident. While he couldn't attend her coronation or her mother's funeral, he still sent her many letters. There was still a piece of him that loved and cared about the young kind girl he grew up with, but not the lady she had become....But his heart was tugging towards the Princess of Flowers as he nicknamed her. The sweet scent always following her around. He often found himself happily thinking about his friend....But that's all they could ever be....Just friends. Vanessa was still his priority as glum as that made him and he had a duty to be there for his future wife. Besides. He was only delaying the inevitable by studying, soon they'd be wed and he would be together with her always.......Though that thought did NOT put him at ease at all. Vanessa in the mean time only drove further into her perfect fairytale madness. WIth her mother passing and her Prince not being able to call her his princess anymore, she was determined to then make her prince her King Instead and keep him all to herself. Jealousy spiking whenever he mentioned this Lady Winchester teaching him, he spoke so fondly and highly of his teacher. What did SHE have Vanessa didn't?! Vanessa was perfect. She made sure every INCH of her was, he just didn't put in enough effort on his part. All he needed was her back so he could know where his true place lied.
When the prince ultimately returned to spend just a holiday week at the summer house before their wedding within a few months time.....It was worse than ever. Vanessa demanded more attention of him. Accused him of liking the lady in the letters he had sent her. Said she would be staying in the summer house with him until their wedding to make sure he wasn't getting cold feet. Still despite all this and him trying to calm her down, he still made poor excuses for her and justified his betrothes's behavior towards him. Falling deeper and deeper into his now rare visits to his friend and falling more and more in love with her as the drew on. Knowing he could never really tell her how he really felt about her. Until one fateful day, the end of that week was the royals anniversary, the prince wanted to appease his beloved by getting her a beautiful bracelet and flowers for their anniversary as a gift to her. She deserved something special for the occasion before he went back, and soon his lonely self went on to that same little stand to but some flowers for his beautiful bride to be. Unfortunately he had used all his remaining pons to pay the jeweler for the bracelet .....but it-....He-......He gave the florist the bracelet as payment. One last gift from him he'd ever get to give her sadly.
For you see, the princess's jealousy had reached a boiling point. Delusionly thinking that her prince was courting another woman. In her range when he returned to the castle, a grim fate awaited him in the form of a curse and becoming locked within the cellar death did they part. Their kingdoms both in ruins from the curse. Anyone who didn't fall ill to the curse, fled the country never to return again. Vanessa now trapped within her own home, and the prince becoming a spirit of malice no one dares to challenge.
But what of the Florist you ask? Was she frozen by the Jealous Queen, or escaped with many other people? Well, we're about to find out.
***********************************************************************************************
Cold. Darkness. All of it came rushed over so suddenly. Just like the two heavily armored guards carrying her kicking and screaming self towards the dreaded summer house that housed the royals deep in the snowed up world. That winter suddenly came that year unexpectedly with the freezing winds suddenly whipping around her when she just closed up her stand for the day, pocketing the expensive bracelet she was given as payment and what coins she received as payment, ready to go home. She didn't make much from her flower stand she always wanted, but that was always fine and dandy. She loved the smiles on the children's faces when they'd buy single flowers for their parents, or if she'd sell them flowers in exchange for small things like food. It was one way to get to eat around here. But the chills filling the air that after noon followed by the loud thumping sounds coming towards her were new. Especially when all of a sudden two giant armored men stood over her and seized her without warning. So naturally she resisted and fought against her captors as they took her away.
"LET THE PECK GO OF ME!!  I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WRONG!! YOU CAN'T DO THIS!!"
The farther down the path they went the more horrified she became. There was ...snow. IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER!! Harsh white and cold wind glared all around her as she gawked around wildly....and then shrieked at the sight of a frozen person as they passed. Their feared expression forever frozen on their face. The poor girl went silent from the numb cold as those blue eyes widened in horror at all the suurounding frozen people as they walked past, never easing up on her grip, or giving any emotion to anything around them as the horrified woman went limp in their arms from shock as they approached the black gates and beyond that was the manor. Her blue eyes flicked up to it. It looked more menacing than it usually did as the entire house loomed over them the closer they got and a sudden feeling of dread filled her up to the very core of her soul as they were swallowed by the shadows and even more coldness bearing down on her. The guards didn't stop until they were going up the stairs and into the home. It was as dark and cold as the outside. Even more so if that was possible. She was still frozen and scared in the grip of the guards when the doors opened and they forced her inside. The inside of the manor was colder than the outside is that was even possible, and if she wasn't already in shock, she would've shrieked at what was awaiting them just a few feet away from the door.
In the darkness of cold and shadows, a hunched over monster made it's way over to them but dared not come further than five feet giving a hiss. Like she was a skunk and this red eyed thing was afraid of her. How strange, but that didn't stop her stop pointing a hand at her, and in possibly the most scariest, raspy voice Poppy had ever heard. Said:
"Take her to the room and lock her away. ...I can't to look at her for as my prince had done. Perhaps locking away her forever will teach her a lesson about gazing into another man's eyes who belong TO ME!!"
"...WAIT!! WHAT?!" She attempted to struggle again but their strength was too much.
Sadly be the fate of the innocent florist wasn't a pleasant one. As she was marched up the stairs to the very third floor of the manor, the coldness and shadows started to become too much to the point of her screaming and struggling body starting to be overcome by them all. the long hallway they were taking her down ended in a single pair of double doors, the doors suurounded by locks that haven't been locked yet. As her weakly numbing body was pushed into the empty room, she looked up just in time to see the two heavily armored guards slam the doors behind her. She struggled to stand with the cold seeping through all her body but wobbled to the door, vision blurring with nothing but darkness. Even as all the clicks and locks of the locks were put into place and the floor jostling with the heavy footsteps of the guards stopping away, she fell to her knees against the door and banged her fist against it. Screaming to be let out as the coldness and blackness seeped more into the room and still overtook her form.
Until it completely consumed her and upon the floor she laid. Beautiful red hair and blue eyes preserved by frost. Until a thousand years later. .....when a miracle happened...
And she once again got to take a breath.
