Loki s2e5 Thoughts & Feelings (Spoilers)
THE INTRO LOSING THE LETTERS!! I'm a sucker for when an intro is slightly changed. And in the end credits when the lines and type get all wonky! I love it.
Ok I have a question. When Loki finds everyone, they are all on branched timelines, not the Sacred Timeline. So doesn't that mean the lives on these branches could be slightly different or totally different than their original lives on the Sacred Timeline? Sylvie says they're back in their "real lives", but is that even true? 🤔 Also, I know people are theorizing that Don's wife was dusted during the snap, but technically in this branched timeline, the snap might not have happened.
B-15 being a doctor was so good 🥺 "I looked happy." Yes, you did... I just noticed her name on the captions was "Dr. Willis!"
Don!Mobius said he'd seen Loki in the shop before, did Loki timeslip there and not remember it? Or... has that not happened yet?
OB's workshop looking super similar to the one at the TVA - So cool!
"So I am gonna write a bestseller!" Stop he's so pure!!
Did anyone clock that OB's book cover looks similar to Loki and Slyvie on Lamentis? 👀
"It's impossible. But don't let that stop you."
This is probably obvious but Loki couldn't control the timeslipping until he truly accepted his "why." Not to protect the timelines from HWR, but to protect his friends.
Don!Mobius literally dropping everything to talk to Loki and offer him a drink. Fellas.....
"You saw something in me that I hadn't seen in myself." NO THIS IS STRAIGHT OUTTA FIC THO 😭
I can't believe Loki assembled his own Avengers 😭😭😭
Gawd, the show starting with Loki's speech about how humans don't need choices, and now he's fighting to give his friends choices..... that's the good shit.
"I want my friends back." DO YOU REALIZE THE CHARACTER GROWTH?!?! Loki never had a friend other than Thor. He was so closed off, he didn't think he ever needed anyone else. He told the lie that he was fine, better off, by himself. For him to admit that he has friends, and he wants them, and doesn't want to be alone...? 🤌🤌🤌
"But without them... Where do I belong?" WHERE IS TOM'S EMMY?!?! The tear, the voice shake... this man 😭😭😭
Remember, this Loki is a "cosmetic mistake." He isn't supposed to exist. Mobius saved him from being reset. Without the TVA, without Mobius... he has no reason to exist... no glorious purpose. But he was still willing to let them all go to do the right thing 🥲🥲🥲
Mobius trying to sell a Jet Ski to B-15 is too funny.
THE MONKEY FROM THE INTRO!! I've been wondering what that was all about... we also see OB's sticky note wall!
"The pens... we have all the pens!"
When they all start spagettifying being parallel to the dusting scenes in Infinity War.... RUDE, MARVEL. MR STARK I DON'T FEEL SO GOOD.
"I can rewrite the story." YES YOU CAN KING!! And my immediate reaction was "Loki, God of Stories"! At first I thought Loki and Sylvie were going to run the TVA together, but now I feel like it might be Loki alone (with Mobius' help of course), managing all the timelines... writing the story.
THAT ENDING!!!! I'M SO READY BUT NOT READY FOR NEXT WEEK!!! I can't believe we're at the end.... I'M SO SCARED! 😭

Your wish is my command, @failedcrow
HOW EPITHETS WORK:
BASICALLY ive come to the conclusion that depending on how general or specific a word is when it comes to an Epithet, the more 'powers' you have (which ive deducted is part of the creativity portion of the epithet reveal card)
For example, if you had an Epithet thats very specific to one thing, like Blizzard, Barrier, etc, you can only do that one thing and thats your whole deal. But if the word is way more general, like Winter, Protection, etc, the more the person can do.
I also dont think hyphenated words count for Epithets, since its technically a 2 in 1? Which I would say isnt fair, but then again Zora is super fucking op for no reason. But I do doubt that someone could get Immortality as their epithet.
I think in the lore you're born with your Epithet, but the way the "word tied to your soul" thing works is kind of like a Witch's bile sac in TOW (with the sac being the word you get your magic from)
Tumblr media
FOR THE EPITHET REVEAL CARDS:
I've done a fair share of thinking and eventually came to a few conclusions that all depend on both DND stats and common sense
Proficiency: Strength, Molly made a comment abt Mera and Indus having REALLY high Proficiency, Id i were to look at this from a dnd perspective, Proficiency is a bonus to one skill, which doesn't exactly make sense in the context
Stamina: How long you can last in battle, this just feels obvious tbh
Creativity: I'm torn on this one, cuz I'm thinking its either how many moves a person with an epithet can have OR how interesting/how much thought is put into their movesets. But im leaning more towards the second option since my first theory i technically disproved myself
ERASER CUFFS:
Ok im gonna be honest, the whole way Eraser cuffs work is stupid. Just.... forgetting the Epithet? That raises more questions then answers for me, the ending of episode 7 shouldnt have been possible considering what couldve happened in episode 5 (when Mera and Indus got arrested)
And how does Percy remember her Epithet stamina??? Look, I understand RAMSEY remembering HER Epithet, but I think I have a better idea;
Basically, the cuffs click onto your wrists (feels like a spike color) and it locks off your Epithet until the cuffs come off. After that its a few minute delay to get your Epithet flow back, since its connected to your heart and normally body parts take a while to get blood circulation if cut off, Epithet circulation is gonna be like that too.
"BUT NOAH!!! IF THATS YOUR LOGICAL REASONING WHAT ABT THE ARSENE AMULET?"
For me; it'd work in a similar way, its just that when the cuffs are removed your Epithet comes back. In the case of the Arsene amulet, I say an Epithet user gets their cool powers sucked out from the chest area (Mera did that with Slyvie in ep 4) and then the sac, and the word in it just- schwoop! Gone!
Of course, because of plot, you can get it back. But I have a feeling it has a limit on how many Epithets it can hold before it expells yours. And also before your body just- straight up deflates/gives out from all the Epithets. Pretty sure you can only handle ONE considering it's a ONE WORD ABILITY!!!!!!!
So thats my Epithet Erased rant! Enjoy >:)

My Option about the Loki-Series
I've watched the series now and I can say this: I still don't like Syvie and the ship Sylkie. 1. Sylvie seems extremely egocentric: She is smarter than Loki, can do better and for her he is just ballast. OK. I mean, she's been a lifelong escaped from the TVA and has had to fend for herself. But her behavior doesn't change across the season. Not as she faces her end holding hands with Loki and sparking a nexus through their mutual love. Not when she follows him into the void and not when she kisses him. 2. Their love feels forced: While Loki makes a rather powerless impression and struggles with himself and his past, maybe even has feelings of guilt, Sylvie seems cold and only focused on her goal. It's extremely forced and cliche. Loki tells her that the love, the relationships he had were just an illusion. In contrast, two scenes later, he feels such a strong attraction to Slyvie that they trigger a nexus. De facto is illustrated here: Sylvie is Loki's only true love. Not only is this a slap in the face to all partners, like Loki had before, but it's also grossly overblown considering how long the two have known each other. Also, it makes for a pretty damn sad picture, because, at the end of the day, Loki can only love himself and can't bring himself to come to terms with himself and form a healthy relationship with anyone else. 3. It's self- or incest: Slyvie is not exact the same person as Loki. Neither can she, because she has had different experiences in her life than Loki. Twins are not one and the same person either. Still, she is Loki. She gave herself the name Sylvie. Sylvie probably wanted to distance herself from her "role" as Loki with her hair dyed blonde and her name change. This gives us the impression that we are dealing with two different people. In fact, she has the same parents as Loki. Maybe they don't resemble Loki's parents either, but the DNA is the same.
However, I do not understand some antis: From what I've read, genderfluid is when a person's gender identity is fluid. Sometimes the person feels feminine, masculine or non-binary. I don't know how that relates to sexuality. The sexuality is probably then also fluent. But then I don't understand where the problem lies. Sylvie isn't the first woman Loki has. And according to sexuality, he could also be into women. I have the impression that people would like to see Loki with Thor or Morbius and that genderfluid-phobia is often used to push Loki into a homosexual relationship. I can understand why Loki is shipped with Thor, even if it's not my "Cup of Tea", but with Morbius? With the brief interactions they had on the show? Oh well. To each their own. Some portray Syvie as the worst thing that ever happened to Loki. Yes. She's not particularly nice to him and he really seems like a corner sheep at times. But she is not a manipulator, super toxic person and Loki is not her victim. I don't like the way their relationship is portrayed either. But you can also overdo it.

I can’t stop thinking about Goodbye by Bo Burnham but Lokius Post-Mobius getting his memories back and going home
Tumblr media
So long, goodbye
I'll see you when I see you
You can pick the street
I'll meet you on the other side
Loki bringing Mobius back to his timeline, and there’s his husband and daughter, and there’s Mobius ‘reset’ self, living his life within its confines. Happy, not a variant. Loki vanishes the other Mobius and leaves, quiet and resigned.
So long, goodbye
Do I really have to finish?
Do returns always diminish?
Did I say that right?
Loki continues to keep an eye on Mobius as he continues his life in place of his former self. It’s hard, taking the place of a man he can’t truly remember being after so long with the TVA.
Does anybody want to joke when no one's laughing in the background?
So this is how it ends
I promise to never go outside again
Loki stays with Sylvie, tries to fix the multiverse that it now collapsing and expanding all at once into existence once more. She doesn’t have the fond yet exasperated smile that Mobius did when he told jokes and white lies.
So long, bye!
I'm slowly losing power
Has it only been an hour?
No, that can't be right
Sometimes Loki comes back to Mobius’ timeline, battered and bruises and Sylvie will help him through the back door while Mobius’ family are asleep, and then she’ll disappear. She never takes a break. Loki finds he doesn’t have the same energy she does. He’s tired — Slyvie’s his only constant and she still keeps him at arms length like every Loki does about those they love. Loki just wants to keep Mobius close, and Mobius indulges in the small things, cleans his scraps even though they’ll heal in a matter of hours.
So long, goodbye.
Hey, here's a fun idea,
How 'bout I sit on the couch and I watch you next time?
I wanna hear you tell a joke when no one's laughing in the background
Loki wonders often if this is how Mobius felt. Watching Loki’s life unravel on film, only seeing the basics, analysing every twitch of a frown and every crease of his brow. He watches Mobius often, and some days he wonders in those little moments — the one where Mobius looks like he doesn’t belong, has the same expression Loki had in his youth — if Mobius would say yes. Would leave if all behind, would join them, join him, and forget all the attachments of his past.
So this is how it ends
I promise to never go outside again
He doesn’t dare ask that of him. Not when there are moments where he’s smiling so widely at his daughter, holding her close like she’s the most precious thing in the world, when his fingers are entangled with his husbands, matching wedding bands. Loki knows that the feeling of displacement can be smothered by the unbearable devotion you have for others — had spent years having it caressed from his head by his mothers gentle hands through his hair, untangling knots and buried insecurities.
Am I going crazy?
Would I even know?
Am I right back where I started fourteen years ago?
Wanna guess the ending? If it ever does
Sylvie says he should stop visiting. Says it’s a distraction. That he was just stabbing himself with his own dagger without a pause to let himself heal from the aggravated wound. Loki doesn’t talk to her for three days. When he does, it’s to tell her that Mobius was an off the table topic from now on. She relents, and they don’t mention him, don’t mention Loki’s regular disappearances or haggard face after every trip.
I swear to God that all I've ever wanted was
A little bit of everything, all of the time
A bit of everything, all of the time
Loki thinks he’s selfish. That he hasn’t changed a bit. All he wants is to take Mobius from his life, bring him into his, intertwine them and make their paths inseparable. And it’s terrifying. It’s something he never felt, never wanted, and yet he craves it so sharply it’s as painful and bitter as the day he watched Odin crumple in front of him on those stairs, terrified of the unknown that was himself.
Apathy's a tragedy, and boredom is a crime
Loki throws himself into his mission. He doesn’t visit Mobius for months. It doesn’t ease the ache, but he knows he needs to give Mobius the chance to forget about the TVA, to truly slip into the life he’s owed after years of brainwashing.
If I wake up in a house that's full of smoke
I'll panic, so call me up and tell me a joke
Mobius hates it. He doesn’t fit. It’s like he’s a puzzle piece being jammed into a puzzle, shoved into another piece without a concern for whether it matches or fit. He remembers his life. He knows the scenes, vividly, he can’t forget them. But the emotions, the connection, it’s swamped by decades of brainwashing and missions and a familiar brown suit. He doesn’t wear brown suits. His husband thinks it’s weird when he wears one. He’s the kind of man who wears polos and khakis, he owns one tie, and the moustache? It was a joke to his husband, something he only let grow out during Christmas to be an off brand Santa for their daughter and his nephews. Mobius remembers his life, knows it’s his, but it’s also not. It’s another version of him. He will never be the man his husband fell in love with again, the father his daughter runs to after a long day at school. He wakes from nightmares blurred with bright lights of a pruning stick, of magic that twists inside his head and warps it, of so many dead bodies he can’t stand to think about.
His only condolence is Loki, the one things that fits in the puzzle of his messed up life, and even though time moves strangely between them, he knows Loki has been gone too long.
He hates that when he lays besides his husband — his sweet husband of ten years, his best friend for so much longer who helped him through a terrible divorce, the man who fought for him to keep custody of his daughter and loved him at his lowest — he still aches for Loki to come, to draw him from his place in the bed he’s not used to, to offer him a wound or two to dab at while he whines and hisses, just so Mobius can have a moment to hold his hand without guilt.
When I'm fully irrelevant and totally broken, damn it
Call me up and tell me a joke
When Loki finally comes back, it’s well into the night and the house is silent and Mobius is already sitting on the porch with a coffee in hand in a brown suit. A ritual that he picks up when he can’t sleep. The faint, flickering hope that Loki will appear and demand his help again.
Oh, shit, you're really joking at a time like this?
Well, well, look who's inside again
It’s been so long for him, he’s gotten another wrinkle in the corner of his eye and Loki wonders how Thor could stand the idea of loving a human that slips away so swiftly, like sand between your fingers. But Mobius sees him, and he’s running to him, and Loki understands it like a gut punch when Mobius hugs him so tight he was sure it would hurt if he wasn’t a God. Loki is hesitant to hold him, but he does, and it feels like the closest to home he’s ever come to since he found out he was Jotunn. And when Mobius pulls away, he doesn’t ask where Loki’s been, he just says he missed him.
Went out to look for a reason to hide again
Well, well, buddy, you found it
Loki isn’t the kind of person who can love spontaneously. He’s not the kind of person who can pull someone in and kiss them and declare his love proudly and boldly. He’s rifled with insecurity and caution and doubt. But he says he missed him too, and it’s soft and certain and it’s enough for Mobius’s eyes to morph into something open and understanding and unbearably vulnerable.
Now come out with your hands up
We've got you surrounded
“Take me with you.” And Mobius expects an argument, expects Loki to convince him to stay, that this is his place, and Loki is certain that it is. But Loki simply holds him, clutches selfishly to him. He says he’ll fix his timeline again. He’ll leave them with a husband, a father, but he wants him. Loki knows all he wants is this Variant, the Mobius that he knows to stay by his side. To help him set the universe right for however long he can have him for.
Mobius asks if he gets his own Variant jacket, or even a magicked Asgardian armour look, and Loki just laughs.
“Not a chance.”
Mobius still leaves with him despite the answer, and if Sylvie asks him why he’s so insistent about keeping sharp objects around him with a small smile, Loki can only say it’s in his nature to keep his treasures close, even if they can be used against him sometimes.

Loki Episode 5 Response Pt. 2 - The Positive
On to the positive post! I really did enjoy this episode overall, so here’s the stuff I liked/loved:
Hair flip! Only one this time (I believe?), and from a distance (it's when he first stands up in the Void) but glad to see we're keeping with the pattern.
I LOVED Classic Loki and Kid Loki! I had more or less zero expectations regarding them - didn't expect to like them or dislike them - so I was pleasantly surprised to have pretty strong positive feelings for both of them! Both had emotional stories and Classic Loki's sacrifice at the end was really well done. It was interesting how even though he was dressed so ridiculously, I almost found myself forgetting about that? Or at least not really noticing, because the character was so good and the narrative never used the outfit for comedy. I also have a lot of feelings about Kid Loki and Classic Loki's dynamic, thanks to this meta.
And obviously Gator Loki is glorious and I stan him for all eternity.
I have...a lot of feels about Loki calling the other Lokis monsters. Can I articulate said feels? Not really, but just know I have a LOT of them. I also just like his face in this shot - very lost, very sad, (very good lighting), 10/10.
Tumblr media
MOBIUS YESSSSS. Loved him showing up in the car, and - "You should be careful jumping into a stranger's car like that" - lmao he is such a DAD
I know the TVA is obviously being framed as the bad guys now, but I appreciate the continued verbal acknowledgement with what Sylvie said about annihilating realities and orphaning little girls, and Mobuis' apology to her. And also, his statement about thinking the ends justified the means - even from episode one, Mobius stuck me as someone who was brainwashed and stuck in an ends-justify-the-means mentality/echo chamber, and who would do the right thing once he got out of it (which is why I found myself liking him even at the beginning, despite some of his actions early in the series) so it was nice to have that confirmed. And this just now occurred to me, but I'm wondering if my sympathy for Mobius early on has something to do with my conservative Christian upbringing and eventual complete belief change, and maybe I relate to Mobius on some level? I wasn't part of a cult like the TVA, and it was stuff like homophobia instead of murder, but still...huh, I might have to think more on that one lol.
I'm actually feeling moderately ok with the romance - better about it than last episode, for sure. I'd still much, much rather it be platonic...but they're just so cute, is the thing. Whether in a romantic or platonic context, I'm always a sucker for the trope of two emotionally closed off characters being soft with each other. And they're both just so awkward but really sweet at the same time, and neither of them are very skilled at this friend thing but they're really trying, and it's cute. I was terrified they were going to kiss (as many of us were lol) but the story really didn't go too hard on the romance this episode - it caught me off guard in episode 4 and seemed so out of the blue and sudden, but now they’ve slowed it down and just kind of focused on the general bond between the two (with some romantic undertones as well, though I think even those could potentially be read as platonic). So yeah it still depends on how they handle a next episode, but at this point I'm pretty ok with it, and it's starting to feel slightly more earned. Do I wish all that awkwardness and cuteness was centered around being friends instead of potential romantic partners? Hell yes I do. But the two of them are still cute together regardless of whether it's romantic or platonic - and I guess it is actually centered around friendship either way, because the romance is at least starting with a friendship foundation? Even if they do go full romance with it (likely) they're at least also friends - and that's something a lot of couples lack so that's definitely refreshing. So I guess my tl;dr on the romance is: I wish Loki's heart-eyes were platonic heart-eyes but either way the heart-eyes are pretty damn adorable.
LOKI WITH A BLANKET. Listen, do you - do you know - do you have any idea - how long and how desperately I've wanted to see Loki wrapped up in a blanket? A thing I once thought would only ever be in fanfic?? Yet here it is, right before my eyes, on my very own screen???? I'll never be over it. I cannot stand how cute he is. LOOK.
Tumblr media
Although I must say, I am with Sylvie here - Loki should up his blanket-conjuring game just a little and conjure something fluffier next time. (Also @thelightofthingshopedfor posted some good meta on it being green.)
I loved the “burn it [the TVA] to the ground” and “thanks for the spark” lines. AND THE HUG!!! Talk about things I've been wanting to see for a very, very long time. Loki tearing up was great, always love that, and just...yeah. No words, only feels.
I liked that Loki was taking charge more in this episode and actually had a plan. While I didn't love that Sylvie ended up having the better plan, Loki definitely had more of a purpose in this episode than in the others. Besides, it was really beautiful at the end when they enchanted Alioth together (I’m proud!!), and it's possible Slyvie saying "we're the same" was meant to contradict Loki's line near the beginning about how Sylvie's different than all the other Loki's? I couldn't tell if that was intentional or not, but I think it was?
Anyway, I loved this episode overall! In a lot of ways I liked the tone and comedic moments better, I am extremely proud of my son, and I’m excited/terrified for the final episode.

Hi there Otterskin, sorry to barge into your inbox like this but I just read your post on the latest episode and wanted to voice my agreement! I've tried putting my feelings about this episode into words before but could never put my finger on what exactly bothered me about it until I read your post. For me, the episode felt rushed and I came away from it with a feeling that the story they're trying to tell is far too big for a 6-episode show, and now they're cramming as much as they can into each episode and instead of building up the universe and the relationships between the characters they simply info dump on the audience. It felt that way especially in the scene where Mobius confronts Loki about Sylvie. He had to explain, to the audience, what's going on with Loki and Slyvie because the show never bothered to actually build up their romance. I would've loved to see them actually explore the relationship over the course of a few more episodes and to slowly build up to this revelation and have Loki realise it himself, not have Mobius scream it at him. I was like, Mobius my man, slow down, take a deep breath and chill. I'm still enjoying the show immensely but I'm a little disappointed with the writing and the pace. Anyway, sorry for coming into your inbox and ranting like this. I just wanted to voice my agreement for your post! Have a great day!
Hi Anon!
I would say that while 6 episodes can feel short, it's about four and a half hours. That's actually quite a bit of time. The problem is that they're not always using it very well. Like I said, too many scenes go nowhere and accomplish or set-up very little, when each scene should be doing a few things - exposition, character development, plot progression, world building, etc. should all be happening at once. Instead, we often stop - or keep walking, as the case may be - and yammer on purely about exposition with just a little character development on the side. That's why when things have to go down, they don't have the time left anymore and so they just exposit character development rather than show it (sorry Mobius).
Unfortunately, the amount of logorrhea they put in everyone's mouths often inhibits the acting. My favourite moments with the acting are often when no-one is speaking at all - such as the little 'reaction video' Loki got in Episode 1, and his discovery of the Time Stones in Casey's drawer. I felt like the writing worked very well in those first two - credit to Waldron for that - because it got out of the actor's way when it needed to and gave them great lines along the way. Episodes 3 & 4 felt overstuffed with verbiage, often saying what should have been left to pure acting (with some nice exceptions here and there, like the singing scene). This also has the unintended effect of dragging stuff out, as so often we're just trying to sort through everything being said and thrown at us instead of just enjoying where we are and what's happening. On top of that, too often grand revelations are told to us rather than discovered and reacted to - seeing the Infinity Stones in the drawer is a good example of how to do that right, that was awesome and told us so much about Loki and the TVA. Sylvie just saying 'Anyway, the Time Cops are all Variants' feels a bit anticlimatic, especially as it calls for Loki to be all 'Oh dear, someone should tell them!', when I'd rather see his face go 'Oh dear, someone should tell them' as he learns that. Or at least have dialogue that implies that without being so direct. If that makes any sense.
It just feels like the scripts for 3&4 were just not polished and were written by TV writers, not so much Movie writers - the former relies on heavy exposition while the latter is trained to leave much more up to the director's and actor's interpretation. Loki might have a reputation for being talky-talky, but a surprising amount of his scenes are dialogue-free in the films, or else there's a particular acting spin on the words that makes them feel punctuated and memorable. I'm having a hard time quoting anything from this series in part because there's just not a lot of breathing room. Instead, we just get info dump after info dump, often repeating the same info, more's the pity.
So much exposition can be done visually! Use your sets, use visual storytelling techniques, use colour and lighting and acting and contrasting set pieces and let us have some goddamn 'mah'. (See Hayao Miyazaki quote about the space between claps).
I'd probably be more okay with the rapidfire dialogue if it were just punched up and more iconic and got us somewhere in a more interesting, less direct way. I love witty dialogue and talky-talky films, but there's a lot of effort that goes into making those flow well and not get bogged down.
As for the romance, I'm hopeful that it is not, in fact, a romance, even though I realize I am fighting a lot of evidence on that front. It just feels too strange, awkward and out of nowhere to me. I can't say I'm a fan that they've even implied it. But maybe - just maybe - it's supposed to strange and awkward and there's not in fact a romantic edge to it. Maybe Loki just liking and respecting another Loki is being mistaken for that and used as a weapon to torment him, much like how Mobius has twisted other things to make mockery of Loki and put him down. Loki himself hasn't said it. Although he hasn't exactly denied it either. Maybe that's because he's not sure what the feeling is and needs time to work out it's not romantic. Maybe. Please oh please let there be a way out of this.
We'll see how it goes. I'm still hopeful. There's a lot to like here, it just needed more time to be refined - which, to be fair, is a comment I have about a lot of MCU films. I'm still shocked some of them turned out as well as they did with the quick turnaround they have. Others really did deserve a few more hours in the oven, though. Considering that this is the 'Phase One' of MCU TV (apologies to AOS fans), I think we're probably in for a lot foot-finding and experimentation and messiness, like we had for Phase One of the MCU Movies. I can live with messiness - I even find it a bit exciting - as long as they stick the landing.

Cant Love You Back
Tumblr media
*Not My Gif*
Because the song was stuck in my hand and apparently I am a fucking narcissist that loves pain so here ya go. @gottaboopthesnoot
There was a time in Kelly's life he was simply coasting through. He'd bust his ass at work then either go home to an empty apartment or go get drunk and go home with a girl whose name he had forgotten by the time he left her place.
That changed the day Chief Boden announced fifty one was getting a new addition. You stood at the front of the room as Boden introduced you. Kelly offered you his hand and from the moment you smiled at him he felt something start to flutter inside him he had never dreamt of giving the light of day.
You fit in as if you'd been a part of the team from the start. Everyone that met you seemed to be drawn to you, Kelly worse of all. He'd find himself scanning for you after a tough call just to see for himself you were fine. After shift would end he'd make any excuse to spend more time with you
--------------------
"So when are you gonna bite the bullet and ask her out?" Matt asked after watching Kelly follow you around like a puppy for two solid months.
When Kelly cut his eyes at him he raised both hands defensively "Just saying man. It's painfully obvious how you feel. I can't blame you she's a great woman and beautiful. I think she feels the same but you're her Lieutenant and she's not going to admit anything that may make her seem as if she's ladder climbing"
"That you or Gabby talking?" Kelly asked looking out into the bay where you were currently helping Gabby and Sylvie restock their rig. "Little bit of both. I'm just saying Kelly you've changed since she got here and it's not bad changes. Go with your gut. It's never led you wrong"
Kelly felt Matt patt his shoulder before hearing his footsteps walk away. Had he changed that much since meeting you? When he thought about it he didn't remember the last time he'd drank over a couple beer and he'd been content with an empty bed knowing he'd see you the following shift
You threw him off balance in the best way possible. You wouldn't blink an eye going into a fire but volunteered in the n.i.c.u. on your days off. You were a perfect combination of that fire he'd always crave and the peace that he desperately needed.
Hearing your laughter drew him out his thoughts and he glanced up to see you walking into the common room laughing about something Slyvie had said. When your eyes met his you smiled even further "Hey Kelly" "Hey Y/N can i talk to you for a minute?" The moment he asked Slyvie and Gabby shared a look then made up some excuse to be scarce.
"What's up?" You asked smiling up at him and Jesus christ he felt like a teenager with their first crush "You think you may wanna grab dinner with me sometime?" "Kelly Severide are you asking me out?" You questioned and he nearly blushed "Yeah?" You took a step closer to him and leaned up to leave a kiss on his cheek "good cause I am doing absolutely nothing Friday night and I have a new outfit sitting in my closet that desperately needs to see the light of day"
"About frickin time!" Both of you both turned when you heard Mouch who was sitting on the couch watching t.v. but it was apparent he'd seen your exchange. "Excuse me?" You asked with a laugh so Mouch shrugged "I had the two and a half month mark in the betting pool"
Your mouth fell open in shock and Kelly couldn't help but laugh when you recovered enough to say "That's it! I'm calling sergeant Platt!" and Mouch started backtracking trying his best to apologize but you winked at Kelly then ran off already dialing on your phone.
--------------------
Kelly pulled up in front of your apartment building around seven and slowly walked inside. Your apartment was on the second floor so headed for the elevator while he sent you a text that he was on the way up.
By the time he stepped off the elevator you were standing in the hall waiting on him. You were wearing black ankle boots with a black dress and a red leather jacket. Your hair was down in loose curls around your face and he'd never seen a more beautiful sight. "Wow" he breathed and a smile spread across your face "Does that mean you like?" He nodded quickly "Very much"
--------------------
The night went by too quick in Kelly's opinion. The two of you went to dinner and a movie then stopped at Molly's for a drink before he took you home. When he walked in with his arm around your waist it just felt right. Otis slid two drinks across the bar with a smile "These are from Mouch and Trudy"  you leaned back in your seat and spotted the two so you raised your bottle to them with a smile then turned back to Kelly "So Severide I was going to wait until you take me home but you owe me a kiss. I mean i technically kissed you first"
"Is that right?" He asked with a smirk that only deepened when you said "oh yeah definitely. I mean I've heard that you're some sort of ladies man yet all night the furthest you've went is home my hand or putting your arm around me" he cut you off mid sentence with a kiss. The kiss was gentle, barely a brush of the lips but when he pulled back a smile was on both of your faces "So does that mean this is going to be more than one date?" He asked and was answered by you grabbing the collar of his shirt and pulling him in for another kiss.
-------------------------
The first time you told Kelly you loved him was after a huge fight between the two of you. You'd been staying at his place more and more so he was on the verge of asking you to move in but it just so happened a friend of yours had stopped by the firehouse to catch up. That friend just so happened to be male and Kelly's jealousy flared up.
The night had ended with you storming out of his apartment slamming the door behind you. You didn't answer any of his calls or texts and when he came over to your place you opened the door long enough to say "Kelly if you care about me at all you'll leave"
The next day he was miserable walking into fifty one. He spotted your car and prayed you'd talk to him but you stayed close to either Gabby and Sylvie or once they left on a call you walked over to where Herrman was sitting and struck up a conversation with him.
A call came out for an apartment fire with civilians trapped. Kelly was watching you take your orders from Matt and wanted nothing more than to tell you to be safe before you went  in but didn't want to distract you if you were still upset.  You started to walk past him but stopped just long enough to say "I love you Kelly" then jogged to catch up with your crew who were headed in. He had just a few seconds to process what you'd said before heading in the other entrance with Cruz.
The moment the building was cleared you were outside helping roll the hoses up. Kelly had just got through talking with Matt and chief Boden when he saw you. He caught your hand when you bent down to pick up another hose and the moment your eyes met his he said "I love you too. I'm sorry i was a jealous asshole. I've just never felt this way" you rolled your eyes but the smile you had told him all he needed to know even before you said "Good because neither have I. I'm not going anywhere Kelly"
----------------------
You and Kelly were coming up on your two year anniversary. Your present had been sitting in the top drawer of his dresser for weeks. Gabby had went with him to help pick out what cut and style of ring she thought you'd like and of course she'd somehow managed to find out your ring size as well.
He had everything planned. Where he was going to take you, what he was going to say. The thing about plans is that sometimes the unexpected happens.
--------------------
The call had been simple enough. A warehouse had caught fire on the south side. You'd went in with Matt to clear the base floor where a few workers were trapped. You were following close behind Matt "Fire Department call out!" The haze of smoke was bad enough you could barely see in front of you.
You took another step and heard the crack right before your footing gave way. One moment you were falling the next you felt a sharp pain rip through your abdomen. You looked down to see a piece of rebar sticking out an inch above your navel. Your hands were shaking as you touched the wound trying to apply pressure but the slightest movement ripped a scream from your lips. "Y/N!" You could hear Matt's voice and knew you just had to hold on.
A moment later you heard him across the radio "Floor collapsed. Y/N's hurt. I need assistance" when his face appeared next to you the look on your face told you everything you needed to know about your injury. "Matt if something happens. Help Kelly please" you begged him your only thoughts being what would happen to the man you loved. Gabby told you how bad he'd gotten about Shay had been killed. You didn't want him falling in that hole. "Hey don't talk like that. You'll be fine. Your anniversary is in two weeks you'll be on your feet by then"
Matt's hand found yours and gripped it tight. You could hear voices and knew everyone was working their way to you.
Kelly was fighting to get inside to your side but Boden called him back "You'll be in the way. Let them get her out then you can ride with them to med" it took everything in him to not argue. The moment he saw Cruz and Capp emerge he ran to your side feeling himself weaken when he saw how severely injured you were.
"Hey baby" you managed weakly as he climbed into the ambulance next to you while Gabby worked to stop the flow of blood. "Hey beautiful" he said with a smile that was marred by the tears flowing down his face. Every bump the ambulance hit caused a grimace to flash across your face. "Kelly I don't want to die" you whispered right as your grip on his hand loosened and the heart monitor on you flat lined.
--------------------
"If love could have saved Y/N she would have lived forever. Love from her aunt and uncle who raised her, from her family at firehouse fifty one and from her loving boyfriend. Sadly fate as it seemed had other plans. We don't know why she was taken from us so soon and as we grieve today may the loving warmth of her spirit live on in all of us she held close"
Kelly sat in the front of the church staring at the photo of you that had been chosen. Those eyes he loved looking into that never opened again after you whispered how you didn't want to die. That smile that always made even his worse day better that he'd never see again. He never got to ask you to marry him. He never got to see you pregnant with his child. He'd never get to tell you again just how much you meant to him.
He'd love you every day for the rest of his life. If only he could manage to love you back to this world then maybe his heart wouldn't feel like it had been ripped out his chest the moment you took your last breath.
