I’m curious about the onesie now
also @pizzaplex-stargazer cuz you noticed too!
here's what Moon was rocking before Clip started making clothes:
Tumblr media
after their PizzaPlex went under, the DCA bois had to figure out a lot of things, one being: clothes. unfortunately, Moon's really big, so he struggled to find things that fit him and were comfortable. the onesie is the first thing he found that fit him and made him feel really cozy. so he still wears it at home (he prefers comfy clothes at home anyways) when he needs a pick-me-up.
of course, he can't work at the salon in a bunny onesie, so here's what Clip made him (under Sundrop's direction):
Tumblr media
Moon does prefer comfy clothes, but he has to admit, sometimes he likes the attention these clothes get him. he's iffy about them though, he feels that they show too much of him and he prefers the specific kind of comfort that comes from being an amorphous bundle of coziness.

ATINY/MOA/CARATS vs Made in Abyss was the last thing I expected and its hilarious
feel like I need to say something since twitter absolutely loves spreading misinfo and just accusing people of shit, how have you people not LEARNED your lesson yet? Since when is twitter such a trusted source, especially gossip accounts?
And before you braindead stans start calling me a d!ckrider, I promise you I do not care about these men cuz I've got better things to focus on and I'm making this because people are overreacting and it's getting annoying. It's so obvious 90% of you haven't watched the anime (and thats completely fine, I get you) and then ended up listening to someone who made stuff up and overexaggerated. I'm not here to defend the author because I hate him as much as you do and can absolutely recognize the dude is into some weird shit but saying people are ONLY interested in this series because of r@pe and p€dophilia is INSANE. So let me answer some questions as a Made an Abyss reader (not calling myself a fan because you'll catch me DEAD before you see me buying any merch or manga despite my love for the series), kpop fan second.
Does Made In Abyss contain p3d0ph1l1c themes, gore etc.?
There absolutely is because the author is a creep (refering to the nsfw however, most of the times it's very easily skippable. As someone who hates l0l1con cuz it creeps me out, I can tell you that I really didn't have a hard time skipping said scenes even in the manga which is far more explicit than the anime (Prushka asking about Bond's 'stick', Faputa looking into Regs pants, Vueko's weird comments) and sometimes, they're even added as extras (0.5 chapters) which certain sites that contain scans don't even include. I didn't even know about the existence about a few of these chapters BECAUSE they don't include them.
The OVA is a nightmare to watch and was not only unfunny but creepy as fuck especially when they try to boil down such an amazing character like Ozen into 'I like seeing little kids in pain'. Now I have no idea if this was made independently but I don't remember the author making any spin-offs that they could base this on so I can't tell you who wrote it but even then I doubt that the author minded it since the man himself had to include that Faputas behind smells like the 'Sun' so again, not here to defend him cuz he most definitely is a weirdo, no doubt about it.
Is Made in Abyss torture p*rn?
If MiA is torture p*rn then AoT is military propaganda and supports child labor, TPN is also torture p*rn, JJK promotes violence, Berserk excuses r*pe and Evangelion is also p*do bait. See how stupid that sounds? Just because an anime INCLUDES something, does not mean it necessarily supports it. Yes, r*pe is mentioned but it's not even SHOWN, and it's a cruical part of a characters backstory. The torture that happens, happens only once if we exclude Riko's 'experiment' at the very beginning of the manga. And Mitty's transformation can't even be classified as torture cuz it's a.... transformation. Prushka's death is very censored so its not like you can jack off to that anyways. Now the piss thing is something I have noticed but haven't really payed attention it because bffr why the hell would I so idk, maybe the author is trying to tell us something or the guy thinks pee pee poo poo funny🤷‍♀️.
Is there any plot besides the weird stuff?
See now this is the part that gets me most because the reason why a majority of people nowadays got into MiA in the first place is BECAUSE of the amazing plot. The world building, the mystery, the fight scenes, etc. It's amazingly drawn, nicely paced and unique in its own way. But of course, it's manga&anime and what's anime without fanservice? I already explained that in manga, said scenes can be easily skipped and the anime thankfully doesn't include a lot of these. I do have to admit thag I dropped the manga for now since the chapter where they were in a bath cuz it was another one of those 'here we go again' moments where it made me roll my eyes and just close the tab so I don't really know what's been happening recently and if things go weirder.
I'm also gonna tell you honestly that yes, the fandom is filled with sweaty dudebros itching to see these kids half naked and the author is aware of them and pondering to them because he too is one of them. But a large majority is back from when the anime originally came out and are mostly hiding on twitter so it's easy to avoid them and they've been pretty rare ever since people with actual interest in the series have begun watching it. A reason why back in the day I didn't wanna interact with the fandom at ALL was because the moment I tried to have a normal conversation about the plot and what might actually be going on, I instead get bombarded with "UWAAAA😭😭😭" and 'c*nny' comments. I also cannot defend and don't even plan on defending the fact that Faputa is pretty much naked the entire series. I get that she lives in the literal wilderness, but the very least you could do is put a cloth on her y'know. And mind you, I'm talking about the manga. The anime is a LOT more heavily censored, and from what I heard, even MORE censored in Korea.
To sum it up:
Do I think Mingi/Soobin/Woozi are p*dos cuz they watched the anime? Absolutely the fuck not. Considering Mingi is a big CSM fan, I can see why he watched Made in Abyss because I was in that same pipeline. I think some of you are going way too far with these comments, if you wanna call them weird, creepy, wanna unstan them for reading stuff like this go ahead, not gonna stop because in the end no one can but accusing people of crimes isn't funny and never will be. If they were exposed for watching shit like Kodomo no Jikan then that most definitely IS eyebrow raising. Maybe I'm slightly biased due to me only enjoying MiA for the plot so seeing people say the fans are p3d0s when the first time I watched this was when I was freshly 15.... yeah idk abt that one. Whether they liked the weird and questionable scenes, I have zero idea I'm just here to say that you can enjoy said anime without being a weirdo and you shouldn't begin jumping to conclusions and start calling people straight up criminals. If anyone wants to have a productive conversation and ask questions abt said anime cuz I doubt you're gonna go watch an anime over a Twitter drama, go ahead and ask. If you wanna insult me and call me a d!ckrider then go ahead and do that too, who am I to stop you?

Speaking of Lost Boys OCs...
Okay so since we're all sharing our Lost Boys OCs, I figured I'd share mine lol. I had one wayyyy back in like 2011 or whatnot that I wrote about on fanfiction .net. But now I've been working on a new one that's way better lol. Also I never made art of my old one. Anyways! My new guy Erik Vernon:
Tumblr media
I made him a different type of vampire than the lost boys and Max. He was sired by a pack of vampires in Monterey (approx. 30ish miles south of Santa Carla) that can transform into these bat monster things. And while most of them are less than 25ish pounds as a bat monster, he is 5500ibs... He's MASSIVE.
Tumblr media
He's very self conscious about it, but obviously he can't control his size. I'm still working through the details of this vampiric breed to keep him from being too OP. But some things I've worked out so far is:
They cannot see at all in sunlight, and have severely limited vision in bright spaces (rip ever going into any supermarket). Erik always has sunglasses on him, but they rarely help.
They do have an echo location ability for when they are blind, but Erik prefers to also have a companion guide him when possible
Their fangs are non-retractable. They are constantly present, and it is a clear way to out them as being vampires. They have both top and bottom honed canines
They take a while to heal, unlike most vampires. But they are a pain in the ass to kill.
Larger ones cannot fly very well... they can glide though. To fly, they'd need a running start or to get speed by falling.
The large ones are prone to starving to death. They need to eat 6-8% of their bodyweight a day. So in Erik's case, he needs around 440ibs of meat per day :') not including the fact that his vampire self also needs to drink blood! So... he's hungry 24/7.
They aren't very strong as just vampires (not being in their bat/monster form). They have the same strength and abilities as they did as a human.
They have no mind powers or ability to talk telepathically.
They purr. Erik's monster form is MASSIVE and his purring is VERY loud. Everyone will hear it. It's a deep and throaty kind of sound, and is similar in pitch to his roaring, but more rumbled
He can roar, and it sounds like a mad angus bull specifically. Erik doesn't roar frequently, but he will if he's very mad or to scare someone off
Here's the size they're supposed to be that the rest of his OG pack was:
Tumblr media
Each bat/monster varies a little per person. But none are as large as Erik. It made it hard for him to fit in with his pack, but they liked having a massive beast around in the event of a fight. I'm still working through his backstory before he ends up in Santa Carla. His OG pack is essentially killed and he goes to Santa Carla to avoid being hunted. He and David don't get along well, so he lives with Max at his house until the two can come to some mutual terms. David is too touchy and aggressive for Erik, and while Erik cannot overpower him as a human/vampire, he can easily overpower him as a bat/monster. So David being... well, David, only targets him when Erik cannot transform to protect himself. The two fight constantly for months any time they come across one another. David's faster than both of Erik's forms, so he constantly taunts Erik. Somehow (I having worked out how or why yet) David backs off with his taunting and lets Erik finally become comfortable with the gang. I keep imagining how when it's time for bed the boys hang upside down and Erik sprawls out on the cave floor below as his monster self and blocks the entrance from any intruders. Also even though Erik's monster form is huge, he's relatively short. He's 5'6", so just an inch shorter than Marko. He also loves to dye his hair, so it can be any color at any point in time. But he's naturally strawberry blonde.
Anyways, a lot to think about on my end! I haven't even started writing his story, just traits for his vampiric breed so I can have it logged somewhere.

Fic Author Self Rec! When you get this reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, or some snippets from upcoming WIPS. Let’s spread the self-love! Love ya and thank you for all you do!! 💖
Thank you, sweet anon. 🥰
I don't have any WIPs at the moment, but these are the five fics I am most proud of:
The End of Winter
This is my angsty NH Hanahaki AU. I had another NH Hanahaki AU but it's a cute and fluffy thing, so I decided to go for super extra pain and suffering in this.
Here are some lines I like from it.
"Naruto-kun...Naruto-kun was straightforward," she protested, eager to defend his honor. Even when he wasn't there. Especially when he wasn't there. "Whenever he spoke, it was from his heart. That was how he showed his regard for others."
***
Laughter bubbled forth from Hinata's throat, like fresh water from a stream, gaining force and vigor, rushing down a cliff.
***
Forever.
That was what happened when the sky met the sea and they spun off into infinity. The horizon, forever and a day away.
***
She caught his crinkling eye.
He caught hers.
And she turned away to hide a smile.
***
But that was a different kind of forever, the kind that she used to anticipate with sweaty palms and racing heart. The kind of forever that seemed like the slow blink of an eye and the warmth of a smile.
***
"There's...there's so much I still have to tell you." The dense mass in her lungs expanded and she fought down a wave of nausea once more. "But...you remember what I said to you that day? That day I faced Pain? That I'm doing this for my own self-satisfaction? You saved me so many times, and I wanted to save you too. But I...I can't tell you e-everything yet, b-because..."
Her Byakugan wasn't activated tonight. The world faded into a watery, crystalline blur.
Foolish, crybaby ninja.
"Because...I'm not satisfied. So please forgive me. Again."
She put her sunflowers into a vase and bowed deeply to the person who'd changed her, inside out, upside down.
"A...anyway...please keep waiting for me."
Frogs croaked somewhere off deep into the night, and Hyuuga Hinata was gone.
***
Hinata could never escape his name and presence, could she? Ever.
[...]But then, he always made her feel brave.
[...]That forever that she used to anticipate with sweaty palms and racing heart. Him and her and a bowl of miso ramen, extra large, with a helping of naruto.
He'd thrown away that forever.
For this.
I'm happy with Chapters 9 and 10 too. The last lines:
She touched the sunflower petal in her pocket, smiled, and wrote a name.
For some reason, this isn't my most popular fic. No, that would be
Let's Switch Up
and/or
Telephone Game
These are the most popular and most reviewed NH I've written.
Oh God, it's been two years and the mood whiplash is so severe. I can't believe that I am the same person who wrote both The End of Winter...and this.
***
Gaara was trying to be a better sibling now. He was.
And if it meant contacting this...Hinata and asking her to donate a harem for his big sister, then...then he would do it.
It was all part of his journey as the Kazekage.
***
"...Hyuuga's harem is old news. You should get out more and read fan magazines like Awesome Assassins from Across the Five Great Nations."
***
"Yeah!" Naruto cracked his knuckles right back. "Kikurage is UGLY. And so are Menma, Nori, Wakame, Tamanegi, Aonegi, Shiraganegi, Takana, Benishoga, Mitsuba, Shijimi, Kamaboko, Wonton, and Yuzukosho! We all know that the BEST is me, Naruto. No other ramen topping can COMPARE. Hinata would agree!"
"What did you say, brat?" snarled one of the bystanders. "Aonegi is an ikemen. He has amazing blonde hair and eyes as blue as the summer sky. He's an orphan with a tragic backstory, and – "
***
...It wasn't like he was obsessed with her concubines or anything and could recite their names by heart because he'd read that Awesome Assassins article over and over.
He just wanted to see her. And tell her that Naruto was better than Menma, Nori, Wakame, Kikurage, Tamanegi, Aonegi, Shiraganegi, Takana, Benishoga, Mitsuba, Shijimi, Kamoboko, Wonton, and Yuzukosho.
And tell her that if she really wanted, he could do Reverse Harem Jutsu.
***
What was I doing? I can't believe I wrote a long story in which the whole world believed that Hinata was carrying on polyandrous relationships with ramen topping guys who sounded exactly like Naruto.
And this time two years ago, I wrote this:
Teuchi had seen a lot during his decades as Konoha's Number One Ramen Chef.
***
Until now. This was the Number One Most Bizarre Incident he'd ever witnessed in his long, long years as the owner of Ichiraku Ramen.
Did those kids really think he wouldn't notice that something funny was happening, just because he wasn't a ninja?
I wrote...a chapter titled..."Why Don't You Wear Bras?"
When I said those were crack AUs...those were crack AUs. I suppose I was far too influenced by "I Am NOT Going Through Puberty Again!" by EvilFuzzy9, the (extremely funny) time travel NaruHina SasuSaku crack fic.
Besides these, I'm particularly happy with
The Moon Sure Is Beautiful Tonight
Facing the Sun
When I Look At You
Heliotropism
Where the Heart Is
When Your Blood Type Is B
Sunny Days
and some others.
Thanks for the question!

Hey! After seeing posts about it from you for a while, I wanted to check out tgcf, but I wasn’t sure what exactly it is other than cool vibes. Could you give me a little direction please?
Hi, Anon! Sorry if this reply is late; I'm not sure when your Ask came in, as I've had very spotty internet access while traveling, but today I'm on a train that has some form of wifi (though Tumblr still isn't loading completely, so I really hope this posts properly...).
Anyway… HI, FRIEND, LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT TGCF
What it is:
Tian Guan Ci Fu, or Heaven Official's Blessing, is a Chinese danmei (M/M romance) novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, the same author who wrote Mo Dao Zu Shi, on which the popular Chinese drama The Untamed is based. (You have doubtless seen that on my blog, as it's another of my obsessions!)
The story follows Xie Lian, a royal prince who, in his youth, ascended to immortal godhood because of his profound skill with the sword. However, he later fell into disgrace and was banished from heaven, abandoned by his allies, and divested of his spiritual power, vanishing into obscurity for centuries.
Eight hundred years later, Xie Lian unexpectedly regains his godly status, throwing the heavens into chaos. Anxious to pacify his fellow gods, he accepts missions to solve problems in the mortal realm -- but the assignments bring him into conflict with other powerful gods and repeatedly entangle him with heaven's greatest enemy, the Ghost King Hua Cheng.
The secrets and conspiracies Xie Lian begins to uncover are inextricably linked to events in his own past, forcing him to confront the fear and guilt he's tried to bury for hundreds of years. On the path to exposing the truth, he makes friends, makes enemies, shakes the foundations of heaven itself, falls in love, and… collects a lot of garbage. (It's his day job. No, seriously.)
Why I like it:
The novel (technically, novels; the story spans five volumes) ranges from light comedy to painful angst to soft romance to some extremely dark moments (trigger warnings may apply), so there's something for every mood. Xie Lian's 800 years of backstory provide plenty of room for twisty plot threads and mystery. The characters are engaging, as well: Xie Lian poses as a warm, fluffy cinnamon roll, but is secretly a tortured charcoal briquette who could actually kill you (my favorite kind of character!), while Hua Cheng can and will murder you with a sideways glance, but is in fact a closeted Cinnabon. The supporting cast is also a lot of fun.
Another plus is that the romance isn't the entire plot -- the story stands on its own merit, while the relationship progresses almost incidentally along the way, making it feel more natural. The romance is essential to the plot and guides characters' choices throughout the story, but it doesn't feel forced in a "NOW KISS" sort of way.
(I just realized that this entire description is probably incomprehensible outside of Tumblr. What would we do without the cinnamon roll analogy? LOL)
Ways to experience the story:
TGCF is currently being released in English by Seven Seas Entertainment. The first two volumes are out now (available in paperback or e-book from your book retailer of choice, or from many public libraries).
Tumblr media
There is also an absolutely GORGEOUS manhua (comic), which would be my top recommendation for anyone who is interested in the story but doesn't want to commit to reading five books. It's more complete than the donghua (below) but a faster read than the novels -- plus you get to look at STARember's stunning artwork! The official English translation is free to read on the Bilibili mobile app and website, though you have the option to support it financially (and unlock new chapters faster) if you want to. (Note: The manhua is still in progress, currently updating on a biweekly schedule.)
Tumblr media
As mentioned above, there's also a donghua (animated series). The first season, which covers volume 1 of the book, is available on Netflix in many regions, and a second season is slated for release later this year. The animation is very pretty; however, I will caution that the donghua tends to gloss over (or just leave out) some important story elements, so while it's a decent introduction, it's not necessarily the best iteration of the story.
Tumblr media
Finally, there is a live-action drama slated to come out… sometime within the next year (I don't think there's an official release date yet), so if you try the story and like it, watch out for [what we assume will be titled in English] Eternal Faith!
Tumblr media
I hope that answered your questions! Feel free to hit me up if you have more.

Don’t see this talked about much, but one thing that bothers me about Mai/Maiko is how touchy she is with Zuko, especially when she does it at a time where he’s clearly worried about something and wants to talk. There’s at least two times where he tries to bring up something important, something he’s afraid of, and she brushed him off and instead grabs his face to kiss him (he actually pulls away one of those times too). Just rubs me the wrong way tbh, what do you think?
Oh, this is actually something that has been talked about before! Especially in @araeph meta, there's like a dozen of metas in their blog about why Maiko is prime failure — (that's the title of one of them.)
But anyways, the more I think about Maiko, the more I notice how the first half of Book 3 did nothing but try get the characters as OOC as possible.
I mean, we saw it with Jin, Zuko is very (veeeeeeeeeeery) insecure at PDA moments. The first time Jin attempted to make the first move on their kiss, he covered his mouth; and then when she made the first move for a second time, Zuko hesitate before giving in and closing his eyes.
He's not really one to make out in public as they wrote him to do with Mai.
And making out with your girlfriend in front of your sister just to annoy her is as petty as it gets, and Zuko was supposed to get over his pettiness a looooooooooong time ago.
Maybe everything that happened in the first part of Book 3 (Maiko included) was planned all along to show that Zuko was losing himself at a worrying speed — (I doubt anything about it was planned with such deep intentions, but...) — yet the emotional damage Zuko went through during his time back at the Fire Nation (specifically during his relationship with Mai) could have been a catalyst for him to choose to change sides. (Maybe not the main one, but a powerful one nevertheless.)
You're right, Anon, Mai's solution for the moments of emotional turbulence was just make out some more. I have talked before about how their relationship seemed to be more based on the physical aspect than in the emotional one. And it is painful to see because the Zuko we know — the one we have seen develop himself so far — is not that much comfortable with physical contact and his emotions have been disregarded by the people he cares about all his life. But seeing himself in the same scenario yet again could have been what prompted him to finally break the cycle.
Mai really is unaware of it, but this "let's kiss and make up" is a toxic trait of hers that she's inflicting on Zuko.
For the way things look, I don't think her intention is to manipulate Zuko, but rather, it is just what I've talked about before that she's not emotionally mature enough to understand Zuko's trauma and emotions.
(Being stoic is not the same thing as being mature or emotionally intelligent. In fact, it can mean quite the opposite.)
Mai's backstory as an explanation for her apathetic nature still falls a bit flat, not only because it contradicts her previous characterization and the ones of her family members, but also because repressing one's emotions doesn't mean or involve to quit caring about the things or people around you. As someone who has seen herself in a similar family environment to the Mai describes and without claiming to be an expert or that everybody in a similar position has to go through my same experiences, being taught to repress your emotions actually means learning to administrate them, in order to show the so-called "socially acceptable" amount of emotion for a given situation. "Laugh, but do it softly and pleasantly so others will feel attracted to you"; "cry, but not too loud, so you will still pass as being in control of the situation". Since Mai was raised inside a political scene with lots of diplomatic aspects, it would make sense that she was taught to behave this way, which btw can make someone socially inept but quite emotionally intelligent.
Mai is not socially inept, she can handle herself perfectly with her pessimistic personality in front of others. Mai is not emotionally intelligent, she is very selfish and prone to close off and brood when she doesn't get things her way.
In any way you look at it, she's not right for Zuko, and Zuko is not right for her but that's for another meta. Point is that this relationship was prime failure for both their characters.

Fallen Realm Playlist Masterpost
Big infodump under the read more, if you like my OCs and/or agree with my flawless music taste this should be interdasting
1. MUSE - Thought Contagion
Vampire stuff, punk vibes, a nod to thriller, all of the above fit the mood of a FR show + the song is genuinely very good and I could see it being used on stage easily.
2. PAIN - Call Me
Absolute banger. But that's besides the point. I see this as being the bassist Jez/Jamie's song (with a side of Deuce as the second vocalist). Jez is a fairly quiet lad who generally keeps to himself but I always imagined that he’d be secretly very flirty and cheeky, but would mostly only really express it via music. I actually wrote a lil short story where most of FR's band (minus Rex and Isabella) find themselves in some dive bar after a show, and end up performing in the place of the no-show band that was meant to be there that night. That band ends up being the very same one that kicked Jez out, so it’s a bit of a revenge story for him. This short is on my discord by the by.
3. Emigrate - Eat You Alive
Oh boy, this is a strong one. Basically, just watch this video but pretend that Axl is Richard (the frontman). That’s it. That’s the explanation.
Being serious though, RZK is and always has been a huge influence for Axl's visual design, mannerisms and on-stage behaviours. On top of that, this is 100% the type of music he'd listen to, and the lyrics may as well just be plucked right outta his brain. Are the words meant to be aimed at Valeriya in a threatening way? Or is it a cheeky flirt with Trinity? Both? Neither? We’ll never know.
Also, completely unrelated I’m sure, here’s a wip you may or may not be able to force me to finish on stream via channel points soon...
Tumblr media
4. Axel One - Out of the Dark
Can't exactly say much about this one cause it's spoilers, but I will say it's less about the song itself and more about the video, and that it does concern the one FR character who is already dead when the story begins.
5. Lord of the Lost - Raining Stars
Just seems to me like a real good song to perform to. I can imagine seeing acrobatic stunts in slow-mo to this track. That’s it for this one, just “I just think they’re neat”. Gorgeous song and video by an amazing band anyway though.
6. Oomph! - Supernova
Kinda the same deal as the Emigrate song, you can just insert Axl into this one in Dero’s place, along with Jez, Vlad, and Thatch. Once again the style and lyrics fit him perfectly, and this one earns bonus points since Dero is actually Axl's canon voiceclaim - specifically in this era of Oomph!’s music too.
7. Die Kreatur - Kälter als der Tod
At the risk of this thread becoming Oops All Axl TM - AH YES. This one is perfect for the point where Axl finally gets the fuck over himself, and stops being horrible to Vlad because of guitar jealousy, and they become bros.
Realistically, I doubt that Vlad - the clueless human vampire fanatic - will ever realise that Axl is a real actual vampire, but he'd be so glad that they seem to have this ~shared interest~ in them, and he'd by hyped as heck to do a performance like this with his guitar buddy. By the way, Vlad wonders to himself, isn’t it odd that he’s never seen Axl putting his fake fangs in?? Weird
As for the girl on the altar, there are a couple ideas I’ve toyed with. Random audience member for fun. Trinity but Axl gets mad jealous even though he thought and said he wouldn't. (No sharing!! Not even for jokes.) Valeriya but the poor thing is scared to the point of tears because this is just a little too close to a real experience for her and Vlad just can't figure out why. Axl insists she’s just being dramatic. Rex has to rescue her because she’s too shy to put her foot down.
Or perhaps Isabella would wanna join in, but she can't take it seriously and keeps laughing which just causes a chain reaction every time with even Axl cracking a smile. There are like a million cut takes now. Send help.
All in all a fun crossover to think about.
8. Adelitas Way - Still Hungry
This one is just Diesel’s anthem. This is the story of a young punk who can’t stop, won’t stop, never gives up and needs more. Right kinda music for him too.
9. MONO INC. - Shining Light
100% a full-cast song. I feel like the lyrics apply to a number of different things about various members of the circus' backstories, and their found family vibe together - if you think about them in super vague terms, at least. I liked to consider the vocals a duet between Rex and Isabella, being the two singers, but there are a couple lines that are kinda too adult for Bella and would make the duet sorta odd so ehhh 90% of it can be that, let’s say. (This is baring in mind that Isabella is an orphaned minor and Rex is like a father figure for her - as he kinda is for many of the members of the circus)
I also did a doodle of this. This one will also be on the force-me-to-work-on-this-WIP-live pile.
Tumblr media
9.5. Lacrimosa - Lichtgestalt a.k.a the original version of Shining Light
Same song, just German and carrying a much darker, creepier tone. It fits in new, fun ways.
10. Oomph! - Viel zu Tief
OOPS ALL AXL TM
Lyrics are very important for this one. Once again, music is the right style, Dero is still his voiceclaim, and Axl actually speaks German in canon (and NO I didn’t do that just so Oomph! songs fit him better, shUT UP)
11. Pet Shop Boys - It’s a Sin
Bit out of left field for this playlist, sure, but with all the controversy and extremely shakey morals in FR's world and with its characters, this one just seems fitting. Plus I'd want em to cover it for a show. Banger.
Honorable mention goes to Ghost’s cover of this song. I don’t even listen to Ghost but my reaction upon finding out this exists was like “lmao yes, of course, why wouldn’t they”.
This song in general I associate instinctively with Vlad, purely because its 80s and campy and I feel like he’d be the type to listen to Ghost.
12. Destiny Potato - Lunatic
Very strongly feel this is a performance song featuring Isabella. This song fits the character - and in particular her tragic backstoryTM pretty well. I’d even go so far as to say the singer would be a pretty good voiceclaim for her if her voice wasn’t meant to be more robotic in canon. This is pretty close to what I imagine, though. Strong n sweet.
13. Nightwish - I Want My Tears Back
One of the first songs I imagined to go well with stage performances. This one for sure would be a duet between Rex and Isabella.
Plus at about 3:10 there's a long solo with a bit of back-and-forth between the guitar and hurdy gurdy (I think?) that I could 100% see Axl and Vlad doing on guitar and keytar respectively.
14. Lord of the Lost - Drag Me To Hell
Yeah this one is just Axl @ his ex
15. Lindemann - Steh Auf!
Bleib nicht liegen, es wär schade - Zirkus ist heut in der Stadt
So, this would be from Isabella’s perspective. Did I mention she was orphaned? Yeah. I guess this one is a little dark.
16. Otetsu & GUMI - Disordered Self-Restraint Girl
The song itself seems to be the story of a child who is trying to coax their parent/guardian into getting up and doing things, not realising that parent had passed away from a drug overdose. Drugs isn’t the way Isabella’s parents died, but the rest of the song fits that part of her backstory imo. Plus, it’s German, and Isabella is German, so yay!
Uh oh, vocaloid.
For a long time I've associated this one with Valeria, and her feelings towards the circus in the early days. After she's accidentally turned by Axl, Val gets effectively kidnapped by FR, taken in before she can even regain consciousness and completely against her will, since it would be incredibly irresponsible of them to just leave a fresh new vampire out in the world so they kinda don't have a choice. While she eventually finds her place and elects to stay after some time has passed, there was a period of time where she definitely would have felt trapped.
This is without even going into the fact that she's now stuck travelling and living with her would-be murderer, and - due to the fact that half of the circus don't even know non-humans exist, let alone what actually happened to Valeria - many of the people around her don't seem to care, or simply do not understand why she's so scared and stressed. It leaves her, at times, feeling like she could be killed tomorrow and nobody would give a shit.
Showtime, katanamochi bunbun furimawashi kubi kara ue hanetobashite mo - ashita ni nareba minna motodoori, waratte yurushite
Translation: Showtime, even if a sword wielder slices my head and makes it fly off, tomorrow everything continues as usual, smiling, forgiving
(Don't worry, in reality Rex, Diesel, and Thatch are there for her & understand the shit she's going through. I promise the folks in the circus do actually care. It's just hard for her to see it in this period of time.)
(There will almost definitely be more songs and doodles added here in the future, but for now that’s all folks!)

I find your thoughts about Snape really fascinating! Recently I've dusted off my old books, reread some parts and also some really good fanfics - but when I read HP for the first time, I wasn't really present in forums or followed blogs about it, I consumed the books pretty much in my personal bubble of one. I regret that now, because it took me some time to see how differently people saw the characters or reacted to their stories, beyond the simple "X is my favorite and Y is kinda dumb". 1/3
Snape is still kind of difficult for me to categorize - of course I disliked him in the first books for his behaviour and the way he treated Harry, but even then I never really hated him. I mostly asked myself why he did the things that he did, and I remember when I read his backstory in book 7 it made me profoundly sad - even more so than the deaths of others, for example Lupin, which really suprised myself. I agree with you that it does not excuse his actions, 2/3but the thought of what man Snape was, being stuck in a life with people who hated him and him hating himself for what he did when he was young - his story was one that really stuck with me, even years later. So, what I wanted to say (before this got a bit out of hand) is that I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on Snape, and that I definitely should go follow some HP blogs to freshen up my dash a bit :D 3/3
Hi caeillian - thank you for your lovely message. Those books had such an impact on so many of us, it’s always interesting to hear about the experiences others had with them.
(The question of whether it’s more rewarding to read alone or follow the same story with others - that’s complicated. I guess we mostly evolved to hear fiction as a group, and I sometimes wonder if this is why some of us are so affected by books we read alone - you know, like it happens with post partum depression, in a way. Anyway - the HP books certainly had a profound impact on me, and if you want to compare your experience to mine, I wrote about it in my 2016 thank you to fanfiction authors - you can read it here.)
Profoundly sad - yes. I remember that before the whole story came out (we were perhaps between books five and six), someone asked JK Rowling if Snape had ever loved anyone, and her answer was, “No one would want to be loved by Snape” or something similar - the rest of her comment, which I have now forgotten, implied there was something sick in the way he loved people, and the forums went wild with talk of BDSM and weird torture kinks. Instead, well, it turns out she meant it in a very different way: this is a man who never learned how to form any significant relationship, and therefore loves in absolutes - which sounds nice, but is really not.
(I knew someone like that, and it ended in the worst possible way.)
Lily was Snape’s whole world - we’ve seen how jealous he was of her friends, how he probably didn’t take the time to get to know any of them, how he basically didn’t care about anyone else except her - it must have seemed so extraordinary, after years of bullying and neglect, to find this one amazing person who could see him, who cared about him and what he had to say, he very likely didn’t know how to handle it. It was disturbing and sad to read about Snape’s complete incomprehension of Lily’s relationship with Petunia when they were all kids, because those moments highlighted, very clearly, that Snape did not understand unconditional love (which is what a parent’s love should be). He assumed Petunia and Lily stopped loving each other when they were cross with each other, and despised Petunia so much (this girl who couldn’t see beyond his drunk father and mismatched clothes) that he genuinely couldn’t understand Lily’s love for her. That tells us a lot about his relationship with his parents, and ouch. I seem to remember JK Rowling described kid!Snape as ‘a plant someone had left in the dark’, and that just about broke my heart. Snape’s inability to feel secure enough in himself to give people a chance, his obsession for this one person who’d seen the best of him and his deep lack of self-worth culminated, of course, in that dreadful plea to Dumbledore - to keep Lily safe even if James and Harry should die. Dumbledore was horrified, as were we all, but I always disagreed with his immediate reaction (‘Her husband and child can die, as long as you get what you want?’), which was also Voldemort’s reaction after he had killed Lily - I don’t think Snape was hoping, back then, that if James died Lily would come back to him. He must have accepted something between them had broken beyond repair, and, as far as we know, he never made any attempts to sabotage her relationship with James. Personally, I always felt he simply couldn’t conceive of others as being real people with feelings and needs as complex and deep as his own and Lily’s - again, a childish trait and a heritage of how he grew up - and therefore no one else truly mattered, in any way. Which is dreadful, of course, but way more tragic and layered than simply being a jealous dick or a carefree bully.
There are a number of neglected or abused boys in JK Rowling’s writing, and it’s not random that their faults shine through so clearly: the whole point of the books is to show how peculiar and extraordinary Harry is, because Harry, unlike Snape, unlike Sirius, unlike Pettigrew and Lupin and Voldemort himself, managed to hold on to his instinctive love for others - his empathy, his trust in Good. To use a whovian quote, “All that pain and misery, and loneliness - and it just made him kind.” Sometimes I think we were meant to walk away from this story having learned precisely this - that kindness is a choice, not a trait of character; and that it’s hard, excruciating, at times, to step back from that edge - to let go of those who abused us or taunted us or simply didn’t see us, and choose trust and forgiveness instead. This was Harry’s journey, and it was a profoundly Christian one. But Snape, of course, as the antihero, was always set up to fail and fall.
