Stuff I liked about the barbie movie!!!! [SPOILERS AHEAD]

OK, so - me and my irl bestie @withoutyouimsaskia went to see Barbie . It was a very lovely night out at the cinema. It was packed, but we still had the best time. Thank you for going with me saskia <3

The costume design- especially the cowboy outfits for barbie and Ken.!!! YEHAW BABEY!!!!!!!

The sparkly jumpsuit Barbie wears during the dance montage!!!!. Oh all of barbies looks were so charming and beautiful and I must try to draw them soon.

Ken's fur coat and over the top three watches !!!!! HIS TWO PAIRS OF SUNGLASSES!! - omg I just loved Ken in general and how- his job was just beach <3

The mojo doja casa house!!! How it had at least 5 TV screens all playing the same horse clip!!! Just horses in general... how ken thought the patriarchy was to do with horses XD

The diversity of all the barbies and Kens. The absolute smile it bought to my face, seeing so many awesome characters.

I also loved how sassy the narrator was. She made me smile a lot and giggle a lot as well!!!

<3 THE EMPHASIS ON FRIENDSHIP AND SOLIDARITY BETWEEN WOMEN!!!!!! HOW ROMANCE IS NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL <3

Loved how ncuti gatwa's ken and emma mackey's barbie were referred to as friends - and they hugged and !!!! *happy British noises* - its also made me smile because of the connection the actors have - having worked together on the Netflix show sex education [which is a very fun watch!!!]

Aah Barbie, as a character,she just felt so much like me. Especially in the scenes where Ken would be lovely and romantic. want to kiss Barbie, and Barbie is just there like, "Oh hi friend!!!!".

Like the scene after the dance where Barbie and ken are outside her dream house- ken is going to smooch Barbie, and she's just smliling at him ahahahahha. YES !!!

The TlDR of that is Barbie is an ace icon. Barbie is for the ace girlies [affectionate] mwah!!

literally, I got out of the cinema, and I just kept on saying. Barbie's just like me. She's just like me!! I was full of so much emotion-!!! but a good emotion!!

The scene where the barbies were collecting their Nobel prizes. And instead of just saying thank you- They would say something like " I deserve this. I worked really hard to get this." ... hearing that - hearing that - it made me feel something...!!! it made me feel like I wanted to have that kind of energy and that confidence in myself!!

your couch had never been so soothing.

the room was dark and cool, lit by the cheesy, romance movie playing.

currently, you had your head resting on his warm, tattooed chest. his built arms were resting on your sides, thumbs gently caressing the skin on your back.

the characters in the movie finally share a passionate kiss, and you smile at yourself. their silly misunderstandings and the camaraderie they shared reminded you of your relationship with nick.

despite his initial attraction to you, nick knew that being with him was welcoming hecticness into your heart as well. almost every aspect of his life was a mess and he didn't want to throw you into the worst of it.

and yet, he couldn't get you out of his head. the way you felt so easy to talk to and laugh with. not to mention the goosebumps that traveled through his spine and arms when you handed his card back, the gentle touch of your fingertips against his was life-changing.

after leaving the establishment, the questions that filled his head expanded into sweet daydreams. but as night fell, a painful mix of guilt and longing ensured that the same lovely imaginations kept him from a night’s rest. 

the next day he came back to the yogurtopia to see if he actually had a chance. the drive was nerve-wracking and he understood the encounter would be awkward, but he knew that it would be all worth it in the end. even a disappointing answer would bring his tired mind some closure.

you also held some hesitation towards him. the last thing you wanted was to use this sweet guy as a band-aid after being deeply wounded, so recently.

however, his blushing face and the timid question relit something inside that you assumed was dimmed forever.

you explained how you still needed time to heal as you gave him your number, but that if he needed someone to chat with you'd be available.

the smile he gave you while he held the scribbled-on napkin was bashful and beautiful. and as you look up at nick, it's the same one he's giving you now.

his eyes twinkle with affection and you’re filled with delight that you two quickly became more than just friends. it was difficult not to drown in every aspect that was him, and yet, you wouldn’t have it any other way.

you close your eyes and snuggle deeper into his chest, the beating of his heart calming you like a sigh.

it’s so comforting being able to spend alone time with him, nick even took work off to spend tonight with you. you’ve noticed he’s been going less and less the more serious the two of you became. 

truth be told, after knowing everything you've been through, nick began to despise his job. you're the peace during his storms and the one person who's been keeping him sane, the last thing he wants is the nature of his night job to remind you of him.

he’ll always be left wondering how he could hurt you so badly. nick has never felt so seen, cared for, and loved. how anyone could take you for granted; he couldn't begin to comprehend. 

your bright eyes look back into his deep ones. they soften as he runs his hand over your cheek, holding it gently as if you'd shatter and disappear at any moment.

his touch is always nice. so delicate and tender. between his jobs, the puppies, his family, and you; he truly deserved a reward. 

so reward you will. 

you pull yourself up to his level and straddle him, couch cushion underneath your palms. gazing directly into him. nicks smile alters into a smirk. you want something from him, he knows that look all too well. 

he hasn’t given it to you yet but by fate willing, he would here and now if that’s what you wanted. he’d give it all to you, anything for you.

you shift yourself onto your knees and wrap your arms around his neck. bringing one of your hands back to tuck some of his sky-blue hair behind his ear.

you trace your fingers from behind his ear to hold his jaw. you don’t miss how he catches his bottom lip between his teeth, grounding himself before the next step forward. not because you make him anxious, but because you make him nervous.

here’s your nick, with enough cool to freeze oceans melting under your touch— under your presence. he’s so tantalizingly close and you’re both awfully impatient.

the two of you collide like a kilonova. his lips are so delicious they almost distract you from the lingering touch he’s leaving on your thighs. wandering hands traveling higher and higher, yet leaving just enough space to have you wanting more. 

you subconsciously lean your head to the side, begging silently for him to welcome himself inside. the cold of his tongue piercing sends shivers down your spine. your hand plays with the hem of his shirt, those hypnotizing fingertips of yours grazing over his abdomen before-!

your groan of dread told nick exactly who that was. 

and he's decided it's about time he knew you're doing better without him.

the pause between them grows more tenacious by the second. a different you would feel pity at this encounter, that this is how he learns of your nick, but he took you for granted. he betrayed your trust and it took you too long to gain it back. and now, he can’t take no for an answer. he hasn’t left you alone since his cheat. if this won’t make him face that you’re completely over him, nothing will. the thought excited and terrified you at the same time. 

“...who’s this?”

“i’m nick.”

you cup your hands over your mouth. hiding nervious or devious laughter, you weren’t sure yet.

“huh…do i have the wrong number?”

“i don’t think so.”

the silence is deafening. your breathing was all your could hear as your focus went undividedly to their words.

“...is-”

“they’re busy.”

there was complete silence as nick hung up the call. you felt sick. you felt like screaming on rooftops. you felt like sobbing– like screaming. you felt like you could run a mile. you felt like you could kiss your nick nonstop. 

the relief that he wouldn’t be trying to attach himself to every thought in your mind made you feel weightless. you were finally free.

comfort like a sigh.

your lack of noise worried your boyfriend, his triumphant expression twisting into one of unease. the fear of stepping over lines and making you uncomfortable was a reoccurring nightmare, a dream he never wished to come true.

How Obey Me Shot Itself In The Foot - Introduction

MASSIVE WARNING FOR DISCUSSION OF RELIGION. Specifically of Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism) and their shared God. I am doing this in a media analysis context, not to shame any particular religion or anyone’s particular beliefs. If that makes you uncomfortable, feel free to not read this post, stop reading at any point, and/or unfollow/block me. DO NOT try to start religious discourse on this post or in my askbox/DMs, I will clown on and block you.

A while ago, someone sent me an ask about why I think Raphael should kill MC. Instead of answering in a succinct manner, I proceeded to draft a multi-part informal essay about one of, imo, the biggest plot holes/writing foibles in Obey Me, and what I'd do if I was in charge of writing it.

This is the first part of that essay. It does not address why I think Raphael should kill MC at all, but we'll get there.

(Also, a masterlist of all the parts of this essay will be posted once I've... posted all the parts lol)

So full disclosure: I haven't actually made it to the part of Obey Me where Raphael actually shows up*, I've just seen screenshots of various bits n bobs as well as the many memes the fandom's made that portray him as a wet cat

But, based on the way that Obey Me can't seem to decide if it's a fun silly comedy/romance about demons or a serious political and interpersonal drama, I don't think they have the desire *cough*orwritingchops*cough* to actually follow through on Raphael's "assassin" thing in a long term interesting way

And that's because I don't think they can decide on how to handle the entire Celestial Realm.

*In a series of truly stupid (on my part) shenanigans, I lost my og account, which I believe was at Lesson 41. I've made a new one, which is on... lesson 8. yeah. fuck me. Long story short, any plot developments past lesson 41 I only know through fandom osmosis - I understand there's some grandfather-clause-esque shit happening with MC and the boys in the Celestial Realm apparently? But yeah, no firsthand experience beyond that point.

Before I get into this, I want to clarify that a) these are just my thoughts, and since I am one person, they’re likely to be flawed and incomplete, and b) because we haven’t actually seen a lot of characters like Michael, the Demon King, or… well, God, I can’t talk much about their depictions in canon. What I can (and will) do though is talk about their archetypal roles in a larger media context, as well as how they (could be) foiled off of other characters. So yeah. This is basically red string and push pins on a murder board. Anyway!

To start, let's get really fucking basic for a second:

The Celestial Realm is clearly analogous to Heaven

The typical expectation audiences have vis a vis Heaven is that Heaven = Good

The Devildom is clearly analogous to Hell

The typical audience expectation for Hell is Hell = Bad

The Devildom, while dark, spooky, and full of danger is both shown and implied to be not totally terrible, and in fact has several virtues to its name

The Celestial Realm, while bright, cheery, and full of fluffy angels is implied to be very rigid and militaristic, to such an extent that it was willing to kill one of their own for breaking these rules (and cast out several others for defending her)

The Devildom is currently under the control of Prince/Lord Diavolo, son of the Demon King (who’s “asleep” in a mausoleum), who acts very unlike what one would expect of demonic royalty.

It can be said, then, that Diavolo is standing in for the Demon King.

The Celestial Realm is, as far as we can tell, currently under the control of Michael, an archangel who in Obey Me is said to be the guardian angel of confectioners, but in various Abrahamic mythologies has been associated with being chief of the angels, a protector of humanity/the faithful, and the (current) right hand of the big guy upstairs Himself (sometimes replacing Lucifer, sometimes not).

It can be said, then, that Michael is standing in for God.

Based on the early concern that demons would eat MC and the attitudes the brothers (and now other characters like Mephistopheles) have had to unlearn vis a vis humans, it seems that the traditional Devildom attitude towards humans is more hostile, and implies that Diavolo’s predecessor, the Demon King, was more “traditionally demonic” and created/enforced this hegemony.

Based on what we understand of the Great Celestial War, plus the way the brothers and characters like Luke and Simeon talk, the “traditional” Celestial attitude towards humans and demons was more hostile, and implies that Michael’s predecessor is the one who created/enforced this hegemony.

That sounds like a fun setup for conflict, right? You’ve got these two worlds with all sorts of baggage between them, including turncoats and personal grudges and fantasy-racial prejudice, a central character (MC) designed to pull them all together and help them settle their differences— oh but we do need actual villains so maybe the endgame involves the two OG leaders of the respective magic worlds coming back and getting generational whiplash from all this mixing and the protagonists have to fight them and—

I did mention one of the aforementioned “Big Bad” figures is analogous to God, Creator of the Universe of the Actual Bible right?

Yeah, no fucking way is a dating sim going to put The Abrahamic God as a villain/antagonist and have that go down in any kind of good way. Bc, you know… depicting Actual God, especially in any kind of nuanced or even negative light when the work isn’t really centrally about that is… it’s a lot.

I have a couple asks about trolls (A. Clown, ilu, yes, report), and there's one, very annoying, troll-like creature that annoys me personally, so I'm going to answer this

I like to rate trolls on two scales

Harmless to harmful

Boring to amusing

The one I recommended people block is harmful and boring

They made a blog and immediately started reblogging-- not MY posts, but my reblogs of OTHER people's positivity

That's not a danger or annoyance to myself, in this case, it's a danger to my followers and those I interact with

That means an immediate block from my blog, and a late night of checking for new blogs that might indicate round 2 (to reiterate, I was the only one they had reblogged from)

Unfortunately, I didn't catch that troll until their fifth reblog

I told those I know personally to block the blog before checking their notifications

To others, I'm sorry I didn't catch them on the first post, I'm sorry that you had to see depressing nonsense on amazing positivity posts

That's why I ALSO said in the tags, just block, there's nothing interesting to see, no amusement is going to come out of it, don't send them anons, just block and move on

Thefakersystem, on the other hand, is harmless and amusing, commenting lol on random posts and actually making me laugh at times-- they've really only reblogged my original posts, so they're not using my blog like it's a buffet of victims to pick from

They are not using my blog to attack others, they're not a direct threat to my followers or those I interact with

They're an annoying little background buzz that sometimes gets a chuckle. Everyone already knows they exist, so I don't need to tell anyone to be careful, and people either already have them blocked or know what to look for

Now, I did see that they may be involved in the anons going around, potentially the triggering ones

That's a bit different, now we have a problem, they've gone up to "mildly harmful question mark?"

I'm keeping an eye on the situation and will act appropriately, as needed

I don't know how long you've been around, but does anyone remember the shadow the hedgehog blog?

I actually spoke directly with that blog at the time and found out it was joke-- I was scared for them and my followers, so I do my due diligence where needed

But my followers can be rabid, and the shadow blog started getting death threats and suibait, and then I put a stop to it, on behalf of the TROLL, calling out those users specifically and making it very clear that this blog does not support that-- the users that sent those anons essentially ruined any fun that people were having-- and trust me, it was hilarious for most people, or I would have stopped it earlier

I have also been accused numerous times of coordinating mass reports against real users, so I need to be careful what callouts I make about who, and what I "ask" my followers to do, because there's no winning either way

And if you ARE the annoying, troll-like creature that I mentioned, you're a massive hypocrite and I hope you know everyone is laughing at you

Because if people weren't laughing, you'd be hard blocked

lol because I'm old as hell and if I quit every mainstream western show when I knew I was being queerbaited, I would have no mainstream shows to watch, lol. Like I watched all six seasons of Nip/Tuck as they aired and I watched Glee, both Ryan Murphy shows, might I add. I remember when Ryan Murphy himself said Brittany and Santana were just a throwaway joke until he realized that show was being watched by kids, something he's not used too, and that they actually needed to see lesbian teenagers and decided to actually make them a thing. Just because I know something is queerbait, especially in a Ryan Murphy show, and sometimes get upset over that, doesn't mean I'll stop watching. It just means sometimes I get drunk on the internet and get in my feelings.

As for stopping watching 911, I have vested interests in continuing to watch. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Angela Bassett are both two of my Roots. And Peter Krause killed it as Nate Fisher, so I'll also watch him do most things. But this is tumblr dot com, so I only focus on buddie. Which, I'm sorry to say, I don't think is ever going to be anything canon. Like when I first found this show, I really thought it was gonna be a real thing, then I found out it was a Ryan Murphy show and gave up hope. But after fully watching, I started to genuinely believe it maybe was going there (the shooting mainly, though the tsunami with Eddie flat out telling Buck he knows Buck loves Christopher, Eddie's CHILD, as much as Eddie does made me start clowning) but I don't believe that anymore and it's kinda obvious in the show.

Hi Vespertine. Sorry to add to the pile, I promise I will send in some writing related things to compensate later. I also misgendered that user in a comment by accident with she/her. I blocked them, but they still looked at my blog, and they made a post that said by using the wrong pronouns, which they thought was intentional and meant to hurt them, I purposefully called them a hysterical woman stereotype. Obviously that wasn't true. I was just going off a comment someone else made on my blog where they used she/her, and I thought I had to correct myself. It was a case where good intentions, even if I was not happy with the user's behavior or expected to talk to them again, I was still going to use the right pronouns, but my intentions were warped by someone with an agenda. I'm sorry to hear you're getting the same heat. I didn't use my rp blog to interact with the user or talk about them because I was sure something like this would happen, either by them or other people like that callout blog, and I think other people had the same idea. I dodged a bullet there, but I'm still paranoid. I'm paranoid I'll hear a notif and see my rp blog in a callout for this, because someone hunted it down, or a callout for trying to talk to the person who started all the drama. Nobody should be scared to talk about someone on their own blog. Nobody should be scared to talk openly, in general. Nobody should be called out for trying to talk with someone either. I can keep publishing the hate anons for exactly that reason, and I can promise people they aren't the only ones (in this or in any such horrible behavior), but it's different to see it coming from a third party! It's not very encouraging to be thoughtful and respectful of other people when literally nothing you can say or do will result in anything other than more twisting of your words, and that's a big problem I have with this shit. Things like actual transphobia, intentional misgendering, actual infantalization and shit treatment of ND people, actual harassment, etc. etc. etc. matter. It's just more trivializing of real problems for the sake of blowing nonexistent bullshit up, and that is immensely disgusting to me. Furthermore, no, it's not anyone's job to be good representation at all times, especially when that performance comes at a cost to themselves, but maybe don't go out of your way to be the person that is the necessary push in the wrong direction of someone's formative experience with people of your community. If it's costing you nothing to not clown on serious issues, but is costing the entire world another bigot for you to clown on serious issues, the choice should be a bit obvious here. Whenever you're in a safe place - physically, emotionally - and capable of that kind of logic, exercise it, damn.

It's definitely a better course of action than playing out skewed activism by vilifying innocent people, more worthy of one's effort than losing their collective shit over a very easy mistake. One that I'd say was even less avoidable in your case. AGAIN, how, exactly is anyone supposed to know this shit when they're blocked? When they aren't subverting the blocks they, themselves, put in place? I know for a fact none of them are looking at the information of the people they choose to try to drive out of the RPC, but everyone else is supposed to make zero reasonable assumptions, check and recheck blogs they have made an effort not to visit for good reason. So, you know what? I'm going to be even more offensive here and talk for a moment about why these mistakes are reasonable.

When we see a post and reblog it, it's not unreasonable to assume that the OP had knowledge we didn't. Since we blocked the offending party, but they're discussing them. OP uses the incorrect pronouns, we end using the incorrect pronouns as well. This is not malicious intent. It isn't intentional at all, it's just having a discussion. A discussion that wouldn't have even transpired if they hadn't taken it upon themselves to (what a coincidence) take personal issue with a RPer they repeatedly took out of context and decided to shame for it, before proceeding to get an even bigger stick and pot.

When we decide to block a blog, it's our responsibility to stay off of it. Not go looking at it for any reason. That is now off-limits. When someone blocks us, it's also our responsibility to respect that decision, no matter how outrageous it was, no matter what we might need to verify. That's the issue with blocking when we don't exploit how easy it is to get around blocking on tumblr; we've cut ourselves off from any further meaningful communication, including passive communication like rules and posts. Kind of like how you cannot expect an apology to mean a damn thing when you've blocked everyone you harassed, then made that apology in a post on your blocked blog. Don't put up walls you expect people to see through, then get upset when they can't see through them.

As a community, the RPC is primarily afab. That's never a problem to bring up when someone wants to be angry about their female muse not getting equal attention and so on, but it's a problem to discuss any other time, about any other problem. Dealing with the things that we're socially raised to ascribe to as afab people is that problem. It's reflected in our behaviors, interests, and speech. We may not want to live in a gendered world, we may eschew that, but we were raised in a gendered world and it shows. One which has a lot of complications for being that, like almost everyone feeling safer around afab people by default of the All Men Are Bad, All Women Are Harmless bullshit.

We not only know that the RPC is primarily afab, we tend to assume comfort, especially in hostile situations, by assuming those pronouns in others.

And it so does not matter how much any of us like it, some people have more masculine or feminine tones. Even in text. That means neither that someone's gender identity should be disregarded nor that this text-based presentation is correct, but like every other unfair thing that exists, it's a thing. Like you, Anon, you genuinely come across in tone as primarily neutral, slight lean toward masculine. Even if I wasn't inclined to do so, not knowing you and all, I'd use they/them for you instinctively because that's what your speech is giving me. That isn't any more unreasonable than ascribing another set of pronouns based on the same information.

Oh yeah, I know, lurkers, the difference is that they/them is the appropriate choice when one does not know. I know that logically, but people aren't always operating like robots, weirdly enough. We default to a lot of instinctive behaviors, and we aren't always operating at the top rung of cognition either. Being human works like that, it's really that simple and not malicious if you're not reading that into it.

As we're all aware, it is being read into, and your experience is exactly why; you now feel worried every time you get a notif, you've been outed as a supposed transphobe, and while it is incredibly fortunate you stopped this from transpiring on your RP blog, it still transpired somewhere and has had a negative effect. If they find they correct thing or set of things, they can get so many more people to dogpile you over it. Get enough people to do that, make someone miserable enough, especially people who are already going through a hard enough time already, they'll leave.

It is a terroristic act, and it has the effect of all terroristic acts; people are afraid to exist outside of shifting bounds (that shifting is a part of the terrorism). They can't have an opinion, write any muse/topic they wish, be honest on their own blogs, support the "wrong" topics, muns, or blogs. Attacking people for a mistake, not allowing them to address it either, just furthers all of that. It's showing the community what happens when you aren't on the "right" side, even if that isn't even the case. They certainly turn on their own quickly enough.

So, of course, it's a culture of fear and it is disturbing as hell. No one has any right to make someone feel unsafe over fiction or a hobby or a difference of opinion. Everyone has the right to say whatever they want on their own blogs, to talk openly, and yes, to try to talk to others without feeling at risk.

Even if what someone says is genuinely unpleasant. This isn't the way one handles it. By all means, have a problem with something, have a problem with someone, but grow up and talk to them openly, without bringing everyone you can dredge up to join in. I have no issue with people arguing, I have an issue with bullying. If it's your whole goal to harass people without consequences to the end result of deactivation and lockstep behavior from everyone else, that's what you're doing, folks. Bullying.

If you can't win an argument, especially one your own ass began, in any other way than this, you're not engaging in an argument.

Because of this, people tend to get so comfortable with me, they forget me. Like, when I first start dating a little, they're hurt or damaged because of some clown who called themselves a CG. So, they message me often. Pine after me. Need my attention. Obsess over me. Because they need to. But after being with me for a few months, it stops. They chill they barely need me. They barely need to talk to me. They know I love them. They know I'm not going anywhere. They know things are good. So, they don't message as often. They don't seek out my attention in any form. They don't beg for Skype dates or extra stories when I've been busy. They're just so chill. Which is obviously great. It means I'm doing something write. It means there happy. They feel safe. But I'm not happy because I don't feel needed anymore. Like, I feel like I've been cheated, lol. Because most people aren't clingy and needy as a personality trait, they're clingy and needy because of insecurities. Once they're secure, they're not needy at all. And as you guys know, I *NEED* NEEDY. Like, I wish I could explain it to you guys. Honestly, it's a requirement. Intelligence and neediness are must haves for me. So, when a partner goes from begging to sleep on Skype every night to sending a few texts a day, it's a major thing for me. I don't wanna say turn off, but it probably is. Please note, I don't even mind not talking for days on end. It's the needing that I like. Not the content of the neediness. Idk. I'm really messed up, fam. You say that people should get over communism because it’s been dead for years, when the USSR fell in ‘91. Millions upon millions of people alive today remember communism. That’s not to mention other ex communist countries like Cuba. So I think they all have a right to be worried about communism when governments all over the world are adopting policies that are communist-esque like the crack down on free speech. You tell people to get over an ideology that has murdered millions not that long ago but you still call whites “white devils” and all kinds of bs for stuff Western Europeans did even further back. You clown on racists (as you should) while also inadvertently being racist yourself by calling whites names and constantly commenting on how western white society is inferior. (Remember saying some bs like “unwashed white asses” and other shit like that?) You’re extremely hypocritical in other areas of your beliefs as well, which would normally be ‘fine’ since everyone is a hypocrite to an extent. But you’re also extremely arrogant. You mention that social media is a massive stumbling block for Christians, which it is, only for you to spend hours on this hell site every day uncharitably hounding people and calling them demonic. Wake up. Everyone, including those you deem demonic/demon possessed can be redeemed. Maybe read the sermon on the mount again and work on forgiving your enemies.
