Chapter 9

FIRST DAY FESTIVAL TIME :3

TW/CW: Possessive/obsessive Coryo murderous thoughts

When the train that weaved its way through the districts arrived at D2, Sunni practically leaped off the train and hugged her friends who were waiting at the station for her. The friend group was quite large, comprising of maybe 6 people.

"Cori, Sej, come here, you guys gotta meet my friends!!" She called, waving to the boys as they gathered their own + Sunni's luggage off the train.

Getting a closer look at Sunni's friend group, Coriolanus realized that she had a very mixed group of friends; black, white, desi, indian, boys, girls, androgynous, plus sized, and skinny friends. He didn't think negatively of that fact, though; he thought it was nice to see her have a large and very close group of friends. Most girls back at the Academy just just stick 1 to 3 people, and there'd be one poc at the most.

"Guys, this is Coriolanus Snow and Sejanus!" She introduced stepping to the side, allowing everyone to shake hands. "Cori, Sej, these are my friends Nero Amadeus; he/him, Maxima Benedictus; he/she/they, Nataila Catullus; any and neos, Viktor Dellis; he/it, Vivian Diamandis; she/her, and the twins Dele, & Demitri Chaconas!"

A chorus of hellos and heys and followed Sunnis friends as the boys shook hands and introduced themselves to Sunni's friends.

"So, Sunshine, how's the Capitol?" Maxima asked as the residents of District 2 led the Plinths + Coryo to the hotel where the Academy students would be staying.

"Uh, shiny," Sunni answered. "And there's more douchebags."

"Ha, fuckin' told you Vik!" Demitri interrupted, reaching over to smack Viktor in the back of the head. He simply ducked, snickering as they instead hit Sunni.

"Hey-!!"

"Sorry, Sun, Vik ducked!"

Nataila laughed to herself as Vivian and Dele shared a look that read "they're so childish".

As the group chatted excitedly about plans for the week and caught up, learning about the Capitol as well, Coryo was glaring daggers at one of the males; Nero Amadeus.

Nero had his hands in the pockets of his jacket as he listened to the chatter, smiling as Sunni. He was happy to see her so excited and to be reunited with her friends but Coryo didn't know why and I was determined to get a straight answer out of the brunette or beat it out of him.

Cracking his knuckles and tossed his suitcase, which was actually Sejanus' that he was borrowing (read as stole), onto his bed once the group reached the hotel; all the Academy children were were on the top two floors and Sunni's group had the highest one.

"I don't trust that Amaedus guy," He huffed out to Sejanus.

"What? Nero? Why?" Sej asked, setting his backup suitcase on his bed.

"I dunno- I just get a bad feeling from him," He replied, tearing his hoodie off as he spoke.

"He seems pretty chill—besides, we just met the guy. It might just be your paranoia since this is your first time in 2," Sejanus offered, taking off his sweater and setting it on his bed.

"No, I don't think it's the paranoia. I'd know if it's the paranoia."

"Jealousy?" Coryo almost laughed. Him? Jealous? Over what? A girl that's not his yet?

"Jealousy, Sej? Really? Im not dating her, so why would i be jealous?" He asked, crossing his arms.

"Friends can be jealous. Hell, I thought Sunni would've replaced me after me, dad, and ma moved to the Capitol, buy she still cares just as much after a decade," Sejanus answered, opening the curtains to check our the view.

"That's different, you're family," the blonde snapped, falling back onto his bed. The was comfy; it felt like it was made entirely out of feathers, and it felt way better than his bed at home.

"Yeah, I suppose, but we should trust them. After all, they've been around Sunni longer than either of us, and for the past 10 years, I've only seen her on visits."

Coryo scoffed and rolled his eyes, mumbling whatever. He was going to find out if Nero had a thing for Sunni and if he needed to dispose of him to make sure he didn't get a chance.

But he'd also have to make sure that no one else would find out about how Nero "went missing". He needed Sunni to completely trust him, no matter the cost.

An awkward silence filled the room, only to be disrupted by loud music entering the room. Coryo sat up, glaring at where the music was supposedly coming from; he didn't need a headache before the festival.

"The hell is that?" Sej inquired, coming out of the bathroom, zipping up his fly. Coryo shrugged, and the two left their room, to see what the noise was. Seeing a door was cracked open, they gently pushed the door open and Coryo feel his blood boil.

Nero and Sunni were dancing to some upbeat and chaotic aong, singing along with it as the others were laughing and talking about an itinerary that Sunni made at some point. When did she make an itinerary, Coryo had no idea, but he didn't care right now. All he cared about was separating his girl from some loser nobody.

"So do you guys plan on making everyone else deaf?" Sejanus shouted over the music, grabbing the others' attention.

"Sorry, Sej, this is what we do all the time!" Sunni shouted back, letting go of Nero so he could turn up his hearing aids once the music was off.

"Why?" He yelled back, walking into the room, followed by Coryo, who was glaring daggers at Nero.

"Why not? It's an homage to how we met; loud music," Sunni replied, laughing as Dele turned the music down.

"Yep: we were all at a skate park, testing our skates and boards and we started bonding over some loud music people were playing," Demitri added as Viktor kicked their ass in another round of COD.

"Dude, how do you get so good at Call of Duty?"

"Eh, having divorced parents who always argue make it easy to find time to game," He replied with a shrug.

"So divorced parents equals being a god at Call of Duty?" Nataila teased, grinning.

"I mean, in my case, yeah."

"So then what does having a dead parent equal?" Maxima inquired.

"Art skills," Sunni answered, hopping her happy little butt onto the counter.

Coryo made his way to her as the others gasped and told Sunni she was quote unquote "wrong for that" while trying not to laugh despite Sunni giving them permission to, when Sunni was laughing and laid his head on her shoulder.

She beamed at this sudden "affection," and gently scratched the top of his head.

"Hi, Cori," She whispered to him as the others, including Sejanus, started talking about things they could do for the first day of the festival.

"Hey, Sunshine," He murmured, his breath hot against her neck.

"You okay?" She asked, gently lifting his head to meet his semi-relaxed gaze.

"Just feel better around you," He lied to her. Well, he wasn't really lying, but he couldn't say he was claiming what's his. He couldn't scare her off. He wouldn't scare her off.

"Okay," She replied, smiling and letting him go back to nuzzling her. Fortunately for Coriolanus, Sunni didn't notice the hateful and murderous glare he was sending towards Nero, who was chatting absent-mindly with Maxima.

Late into the afternoon, once all the Academy students were settled, the group had set off to explore District 2 and everything that had been set up.

Games, of course, for the little kids who had rich families or the Academy kids who had younger siblings or students who wanted to relax and feel like a child again, but also dancing, music, and all sorts of different delicacies. It was so wonderful, filling, and fun that they all felt calm. Even with the occasional dead dad or divorced parents jokes, which Coryo learned were coping methods that Sunni and Viktor used to cope with the loss, everyone felt happy.

But Coryo wasn't happy. People were calling to Sunni, getting hugs and having her full attention. Sejanus, at one point, had to restrain Coryo from committing any more crimes again because a guy hugged Sunni for 2 minutes too long.

Sure, Sunni reassured him and said he was "just a friend," but Coryo had countered with "friend's don't have their hands way too low where they shouldn't be." Which eventually led to Sunni nodding but telling him he didn't need to jealous because they guy was 15 and just really tall. At that point, Coryo let it go and gave in but has held her close to him, not wanting anyone to pull her away from him. As the group walked to another restaurant to check out the place, Sejanus shot Coryo a text wearing a shit eating grin.

Sejanus: Not jealous, hm? You haven't let go of Sunni since we found out about the loud music lmfao

Coryo rolled his eyes, seeing the text. Of course, he wasn't going to let go of Sunni. People could've turned against her after she was transferred to the Capitol, for God's sake! He had to protect his girl, even from her own friends if he had to.

Then Sejanus sent Coryo another text, but it was a photo of Coryo with his arms around Sunni's waist and holding her small hands in his and he had his head on top of hers.

He smiled a little at the picture and saved it to his phone before putting his phone in his pocket.

He'd make that his lockscreen later.

okay so

i am fairly new to your blog and understand the anti ts stuff and i just wanted to say that even with all the racism (i only know the recent stuff and im appalled, who knows what has been going on for years) poc from asian countries still love her. im indian and i have SO. MANY. FRIENDS. who absolutely eat up everything she does and follow her blindly even though theyre willing to call out other forms of racism and bigotry by other people and get so hurt if you try and call ts out. they organise ts events and are a really huge and vocal fandom in india as well. their hypocrisy and obsession is so weird and annoying.

I wish I could tell you how many times I read this over Anon. This is INSANE TO ME!! I completely understand why you're annoyed with their hypocrisy, because this is boggling my mind. Like I cannot stop reading this over I am so confused by their actions 😭

I've heard that they're a lot of Asian Swifties but I've never met them IRL or really seen them online either (IS is the only person I can think of), so thank you for letting me know that they do in fact exist and unfortunately in large numbers as well.

I'm also struggling with how PoC Swifties rationalize liking her music despite TS's own explicit racism. Especially since so many PoC Swifties in my life (they are not my friends. I simply know them) are like your friends who aren't afraid to call out racism, sexism, homo/transphobia, etc. yet will openly stream and yearn to TS.

(Although, I will say, ALL of them fetishize white people. Like they only go after and want to date white people. It's the weirdest and most unsettling phenomenon I've witnessed specifically among PoC Swifties.)

I think it's a demonstration of how flawed their own ideological commitments are if they can push aside and ignore racist actions of their favorite artist because their music is just "so good." It shows who and what they're willing to sacrifice to continue justifying their love for this racist musician, and them getting defensive just shows that they know liking her is inconjunct with their proclaimed beliefs.

When I see people act like this on social media, I often question their ulterior motives when they call out racism and bigotry. To what extent does their solidarity apply to, and to who? Why do they present themselves as left leaning politically when their actions say otherwise?

It undermines their actions and commitment and shows their internalized racism that they can continue supporting a racist artist like this. I have dealt with PoC like this, who present themselves as an ally, who say all the right words and right things and yet their actions consistently undermine their actions which led me to distancing myself from them and in my experience, unfortunately reinforcing my skepticism with other PoC :(

It's why people say PoC solidarity is a myth, because your friends are an example of how they would rather continue stanning a racist white artist knowing she's dated someone who's consumed and masturbated to pornographic content that explicitly showed torturing Black women. (here's a link to a reddit post that explains it (sfw)).

It's easier for them to ignore what she did than it is to hold themselves accountable knowing that she dated someone like this and what it means for them and what it says about their beliefs. You're right; not only are they hypocrites, but they display blatant cognitive dissonance by stanning TS.

tl;dr you're not crazy, they really aren't down for their beliefs like they say/act like they are if they continue defending/stanning a blatant racist white woman like her. they should work on their internalized racism and not bother calling themselves allies to other PoC (esp. black women) as long as they stan her.

I understand your intent with this. Harry Potter was my first ever form of comfort media growing up, and it’s held a place in my heart for years.

however, looking back, Harry Potter included racism and antisemitism (one of the few canonically black characters being named ‘Shacklebolt,’ Cho Chang, those two Indian girls I forget the names off, pretty much everything about the gringotts goblins and the arc with the house elves that enjoy being slaves, which is literally the excuse enslavers used during civil war here in America), which is reason enough to not want it’s fans to interact.

JK herself is also a terrible person, which you seem to already be aware of, supporting businesses made by people who identify with the terms TERF and feminazi. again, I get that you find enjoyment and maybe even comfort in the stories. but many minorities, not just trans people, have asked for people to stop showing support of her or her series. I don’t have Twitter so I can’t back up this future claim, but I have also been told that jk takes any support of her media, even if those people who like it don’t align with her beliefs, as support of her beliefs as well

I have also been told that JK is using her money to basically be the main financial funder of transphobia in the UK (I am American so feel free to correct me on that, UK followers :])

but overall, here’s the important part: if your allyship (or inter-community support) of black, Jewish, trans, Asian, etc. people (<- at least those are the main four I see asking for people to stop supporting jk or hp) stops when you enjoy something, you are not an ally. you seem to be using your trans friends as an excuse but that does not blind me from the fact you are actively engaging in media made by someone who has harmed many minorities and refuses to acknowledge or change her ways.

I, too, have friends in the minorities effected by JK’s bigotry. I have Jewish friends and black friends and Asian friends and pretty much my entire friend group is trans. plus, I’m trans myself. and all of them that I’ve talked to about this have said pretty much the same thing: we do not feel safe around you guys, and will not feel safe as long as you continue to side with Harry Potter or JK in any way

your fandom allows racist, anti-jew, transphobic people to thrive. don’t blame me for wanting to avoid that (‘not all Harry Potter fans’ and ‘not all men’ are pretty much the same, except you have to choose to be a fan of Harry Potter)

anyways I’m not gonna talk about this anymore, I’m not really made for the discourse side of the internet. I just wanted to share my perspective, as a trans person and someone who used to be a fan since childhood, in the hopes that maybe you were just ignorant (as younger me was) to this stuff. there are a million other posts on this site and others explaining (and explaining better than I probably did) why supporting Harry Potter is supporting jk, and why even if it wasn’t, it’s still a red flag to many minorities. Furniture he buys is usually thrifted in decent to great condition. If it's in a decent condition, he'll refurbish it to what he thinks it originally was (I would like to take the moment to blame a YT vloggers I have been following for some time, following her journey in restoring her first and second homes 🥺). This is actually where I got the thrifting headcanon from adksfjhskd

His birthday gifts for his friends and loved ones are poems or some sort of writing (he loves poetry)

He likes horror! Just make sure to keep an eye on him after watching a horror movie about killers or unfortunate situations- (source: his sisters)

He is short compared to James and Emily. They tease him about it (affectionately). He's 5' 6", Emily is 5'7", and James is 5'10".

He used to have contacts but stopped wearing them after no longer participating in equestrian events

the injury equivalent of Edward's Exploit is an accident that pretty much took him out of equestrian events for a couple months. you can imagine how heartbroken he was when he received the news of the extent of his injuries. (he collided with another competitor in a race and fell off Maisie, who trampled him by accident out of fear)

When he recovered, he chose to quit for the sake of Maisie. She was getting older and he knew that her time was just around the corner.

He owns porcelain dolls (listen, they're very pretty imo). Do they creep out his friends and loved ones? Yes.

you bet he went ahead and watched the Barbie movie with James and Emily. took a lot of convincing but he dressed up with them as one of the outfits from the movie. I was originally going for the first outfit Barbie wears (plaid dress) but im thinking a jumpsuit equivalent the original barbie doll.

he's got a sweet tooth! but he does have a limit as to how much he consumes as it begins to disgust him (it doesn't take much)

he LOVES shrimp, especially shrimp cocktail. When Ashima (she's Indian-Mexican in this AU, only because i made her outfit Selena-esque(???) by accident and a friend pointed it out to me) married into the family, she introduced them to a shrimp cocktail recipe that Edward absolutely loves. He uses this recipe instead since then.

Only person capable of making this man swear is Coppernob. (Canon in every universe btw)

another desi anon here. i saw the ask about colourism in india and how we indians love romance in general and i have to agree. with the colourism part specifically. i'm a desi girl who is more dark skinned than average, and i've seen an obvious difference in the way people view me and my lighter skinned friends. and i'm 100% sure the same thing applies to celebrities as well. because a lot of people (mostly girls) i know are OBSESSED with taylor, some of them to a fault where it gets concerningly parasocial. so yeah, it is just the colonial mindset we indians developed years ago that white = desirable (even in indian movies, you barely ever see the female lead as anything other than ridiculously light skinned, and when i was a child, there used to be skin lightening ads on tv ALL. THE. TIME.) which is part of the reason why taylor has such a huge following in india

my experiences being mixed 

I made this post on 11/14/22 but i’ll probably post it way later.

For background:

Mom: Afro-Latina 🇩🇴 & Garifuna (Black-Native) 

Dad: Latino-Asian 🇧🇷 (Indian & Japanese)

Before I get into the other stuff i’m just going say that i’m not saying being mixed is horrible,  you have a share of beautiful cultures and people. When I tell you the food at my house is so good. And the cultural clothes are so pretty. 

racism/xenophobia

Both sides of my family would slip up and say stuff about asians eating dogs, saying the n-word etc. but they would always follow up with “not you though, i know you’re not like them” but i was like them, i shared the same culture, same ancestors as them. So they didn’t realize when they said shit like that they were still insulting me. 

mixed privilege

I’m brownskin with 3c/4a hair so i’ve faced  both the positive and negative sides of colorism and texturism. I’ve had my black side of the family praise me for having “good hair” but the asian side tried to get me to straighten it. It’s very interesting being brownskin, because although I didnt get the privilege lightskins did , i didnt get the blatant discrimination darkskins faced either. My abuela would tell me to not stay in the sun too long so I wouldn’t get “too dark’

I’ve had people literally try to be friends with me because they have this weird blasian fetish its honestly fucking disgusting. 

invalidation

I didn’t really have a problem with my identity until I got to high school and went on social media. I had people telling me that I shouldn’t say my dad was fully asian because he was half indian when india is literally in asia.  i was constantly told that I was lying about my race and told that I wasn’t x enough to claim it. I rep ALL my flags regardless of percentage. Also people saying im not latina when both of my parents are because they didnt realize latina is an ethnicity not a race. The whole blood quantam thing was created by white colonists to erase native history. My kids will be native, and my grandkids, grandkids will be native regardless of what “percentage” they are.

I just wanted to kinda vent or maybe help people who understand have someone to relate to. dm’s are open

when i was in middle school and 'straight', i would literaly think my boy 'Crushes' were ugly, annoying, have no desire to even talk to them, etc... i think I just chose random boys bc my friends would always talk about boys or books i read always had girls obsessing over some boy...

meanwhile i woule obsess over girls in my grades who had a bit of muscle fjejrjf..... like id go omg show your muscle? 😳😳😳 woww so cool can i touch?!! you are soo cool... while still saying " im straight.. duh :/" and id get so annoyed when my friends were like "noo youre definitely not 🤨🤨"

I also have this funny memory of following around this one girl (who only wore 'boy' clothes like im pretty sure she got hers from that aisle, and i thought she was a boy when i first saw her ejebske) like a puppy... idk if we were even friends, she was in my friend Group at the time but i wasnt friends with most people there it was my friends friends... if it makes sense. but id run to her side during gym/P.E. (that class was a nightmare!) and then start talking to her and she was mostly quiet but sometimes she would laugh...!!! I think she mustve thought i was a bit dumb or annoying but 😭😭 precious memory to me.... now i wonder if shes also a lesbian.. i dontgo to school with her (or anyonr) anymore though.. but i keep thinking about her out of nowhere, i wish i got to actually be friends with her

i also did the same with another more 'masc' girl so this was a theme.... i think part of it was me having crushes on them that i did not realzie then.... and the other part was that i ran to the scarier girls (they were scary sjej i was intimidated by them but talked to them anyways) for protection in PE bc there was a lot of mean guys and i Was not very athletic :( and also not scary myself at all, i was really bad at speaking for myself and etc.

with the girls at school i would get nervous and ~admire them~ SO MUCHHH. i remember when i was like 13 this girl in the grade above me was singing “who owns my heart? is it love or is it art?” while dancing around me and i was like 😳… i think some ppl just bought into me pretending but i remember sometimes this guy and his group of friends would pass by me and say “look it’s the indian lesbian” and they’d all laugh and i was like 😭😭😭 why would they say this… im so heterosexual… truly another level of denial.

the story of u following this girl around is so cute 🥺🥺 my school memories were less wholesome. i can think back to some cute moments but mostly i was shy around my crushes and would sit there staring at them sometimes and maybe we’d dance together but like in a more friendly way.. and then by the time i was 14 it just became a nightmare to be at school so i no longer had any cutesy moments 😭 but when i was like 15-16 i moved to the US & met this really pretty girl and she asked in class where the busses are and i was like I CAN TAKE YOU!!!!! and after that she’d be nice to me and smile at me often. one time in PE she asked “do you have an Instagram? i love looking at pretty girls” or sth and i was like “😳 no i don’t have a phone” and she tried to press for sth else and i was so flustered i just blew it. truly my top 10 regrets to this day but i was too shy and hopeless. i found out years later that she’s bi bc she publicly had several gfs
