Wally West - The 1

Based off the 1 by Taylor Swift.

You and Wally were interesting.

You met in Central City on a cold day. You had almost been hit by a bus but he sped you out of the way before the hunk of metal could collide with your body. You’d asked him how he had gotten to you so fast and he’d just shrugged it off as nothing, adrenaline maybe?

A few days later you had seen him in CC Jitters. You’d invited him to sit with you as it was very busy that day and all the tables had been filled with people; drinking coffee, working or having a good chat. You’d learnt a lot about Wally and were now on a first name basis, you’d exchanged phone numbers with a smile and a promise to meet up.

After that, the rest was history.

Cinema dates, long walks along the river and in the park, movie nights on your couch and nice dinners all followed as you got closer and closer and eventually started dating. You’d figured out he was Kid Flash after two weeks and confronted him about it – he tried to lie his way out. Keyword, tried. You were completely okay with it, actually you were more than okay – you were stoked! You’d grown up a comic book kid and now had a real-life superhero boyfriend, it was the best thing ever!

After about three months, you had accidently been given superpowers after being kidnapped, tortured and experimented on for days. Wally and Barry had saved you but you ended up with telekinesis – something you were excited about until you started using it without meaning to. You knocked a computer screen onto Barry’s foot and launched a book at Caitlin’s head. Then you blew up a window, covering Wally in pieces of glass which took Caitlin over two hours to remove. It was a long few months getting used to your powers but Wally was there every step of the way.

It was a fairy tale romance, until Jesse showed up.

Jesse had come back to Earth-1 and had been all over Wally. You knew that they used to like each other before you and Wally met but you were just so jealous, especially now that you were quarantined at STAR Labs until you could get a hold of your powers. During Jesse’s visit there was numerous arguments between you and Wally and a few screaming matches which all ended in tears. Apologies were a weekly occurrence and one day you couldn’t take it anymore.

Jesse had left by this point. The day it ended. You had yelled so loud that you accidently set off a small explosion that triggered a small earthquake. You could tell that Wally was terrified of you and so you ended things.

A few weeks later, you had gotten significant control of your powers and had helped Barry defeat a few metas but you felt out of place in Central City – it didn’t feel like home anymore. Thankfully, Barry’s friend Sara Lance came to visit and she offered you a place on the Waverider which you took almost instantly. Without Wally, there wasn't much keeping you in Central City so you jumped at the chance.

You spent a few months getting used to the Legends and felt at home on the ship, the team were your new family and you had been a great help in fixing anachronisms. You had figured out that Nora Darhk had been taken over by a demon Mallus and you had been helping the Legends figure out what to do.

I thought I saw you at the bus stop

Unfortunately, your ex-who-must-not-be-named turned up on the Waverider with Rip Hunter. When you came onto the bridge with Nate and Mick, you almost threw up at the sight of him. You had gotten so nervous that your powers had started malfunctioning and you shook the ship so hard that you almost broke Gideon.

And if you never bleed, you're never gonna grow

And it's alright now

However, over the time that Wally was on the ship you made friends again, not love but friends. You didn’t hate his entire existence like you had after you ended things and you actually considered him one of your closest friends – maybe even family.

You’d spent time with him in close quarters trying to get rid of a demon – which you did (technically Beebo did) – and got to know him again. You still fought like an old married couple and there were a few times you almost beheaded him or ripped his heart from his chest for being such an asshole but ultimately you were back to how you were when you first met.

Not love, just friends.

But it would've been fun

If you would've been the one.

A/N: i love this song and i love wally soooo much that i had to write about him. btw, i had a situation with my computer and lost a bunch of imagines and story ideas so that’s why i haven’t been posting imagines lately :)

Pieces Of A Puzzle

Part Four Gideon waited while Miranda took a deep breath readying herself to continue. Once she was focussed Miranda followed Gideon back into the lab finding Rip had been joined by three very familiar faces.

“Mr Allen, Dr Snow and Mr Ramon,” Miranda nodded to them in greeting, “I did not expect to see you.”

“Well Star Labs is their base,” Rip noted as Gideon moved to his side, he slid his hand into hers making Gideon smile softly, “We can’t use it without their agreement and, considering your announcement this may destroy our Universe, then they have a stake in this as well.”

Miranda nodded, “It’s a pleasure to meet you all. Although I’m surprised your wife isn’t here, Mr Ramon.”

“My what?” Cisco asked confused.

Miranda glanced at Rip who shook his head, “Sorry, that must only be on my Earth.”

The younger man looked at the others before asking, “Who am I married to on your Earth? Just to make sure I know when I meet her, I’m charming and don’t accidentally chase her away.”

“That might not be a good idea,” Miranda said before she shrugged, “Then again, it’s not really future knowledge since this is a different world to mine.”

“So?” Cisco asked.

“Is this really important right now?” Barry demanded.

Cisco sighed before telling Miranda, “We’ll talk later.”

She gave him a smile and a quick conspiratorial wink.

“Miranda, can you tell us why you’re here,” Rip steered them back to the topic, “Because every moment Gideon and I have our memories restored puts our son in danger.”

Gideon tightened her grip on his hand surprised but delighted that he’d referred to Jonas as their son now he was Rip and not Michael.

Miranda nodded, “Several years ago there was an accident during a training exercise. One of the cadets decided to cheat and reprogrammed the AI for the training ship not realising what the simulation was going to be.” She paused for a moment before continuing, “The simulation included the ship ‘crash-landing’ on an unstable planet and then the time drive overloading. The AI had specific safety protocols for the simulation, but the reprogramming disabled these.”

Gideon glanced at Rip seeing his face blank before she said softly, “I assume the core overloaded.”

Miranda nodded, “There was one training officer with them.”

“Who?” Rip asked.

“Captain Warren Dobson,” she replied, “He sent the cadets to escape and then tried to stop the overload but…”

“He wasn’t able to,” Gideon said softly.

Sadly, Miranda shook her head.

“Wait,” Rip said thoughtfully, “Which planet was this?”

“Kilare,” Miranda stated, nodding in agreement hearing Rip swear. At the questioning looks from the three meta-humans, she explained, “The planet itself is not stable within the timestream or the universe itself. It slips in and out of phase. The Time Masters kept it fixed using artificial means. It was used for training because they could control it’s unique qualities.”

“The overload of the time core would have set off a chain reaction within the stabilisers,” Gideon noted thoughtfully, “Which in turn would have released the planet into it’s natural cycle. This along with the time core energy…

“I can guess what that did to Dobson,” Rip took over when Gideon trailed off, “What happened?”

“The Acheron was able to rescue the cadets, but a huge anomaly was created that threatened to destroy everything,” Miranda took in a shaky breath, “The only other ship closest to it was the Waverider.”

Rip frowned in thought, “The Waverider’s time core, if altered properly, would have been able to counteract the energy released. Although doing so would overload every system it had with fatal consequences.”

Gideon could see Miranda was barely holding herself together when she nodded confirming Rip’s theory.

“What does that mean exactly?” Caitlin asked softly.

Gideon squeezed Rip’s hand before answering, “Using the Waverider’s own time drive, the Rip Hunter of that universe neutralised the anomaly, but it destroyed his ship and I assume he was killed at the same time.”

Silence filled the room for several minutes as they all took this in.

Rip broke the silence, “If this was a few years ago and the anomaly was neutralised, why are you here now?”

“Until two days ago we thought it had been,” Miranda told them, her voice shaking only slightly, “And then we began receiving signals from that section of space. The ships sent to investigate were drained of all energy. One of them managed to get a message out to us, it was Dobson.”

Gideon mused, “That is incredible he survived.”

“We know that he feels he was abandoned,” Miranda continued, “And the energy he’s draining is making him stronger but it’s a drug to him. He’s on a rampage and won’t listen to any of us. We tried to reason with him, but he destroyed one of the ships with basically a flick of his hand. If we don’t stop him, he will destroy everything. Then he’ll follow Kilare’s path to the next universe. This one.”

Rip frowned, crossing his arms over chest, “This doesn’t explain why you’re here.”

“Because we’re sure that the Waverider, since it did it once before, is the key to stopping him. The Time Core energy signature was found amongst the energy readings,” Miranda explained, “Although I did expect Gideon to still be an AI.”

Gideon turned to Rip who sighed, “Unfortunately, we don’t have the Waverider anymore.”

Silence fell once more, broken when Cisco suggested, “We could always steal it?”

Miranda sat in the small lounge in Star Labs, her head in her hands. It had been a tiring few days and she knew coming to find another version of her love would be emotional, but she didn’t expect to feel like this.

“Here,” Gideon’s soft voice came making Miranda look up to see a mug of tea placed on the table before her, “I’m hoping you take a drop of milk and half a teaspoon of sugar.”

A small smile touched Miranda’s lips, “I do. Thank you.”

“I can only imagine how hard this is for you,” Gideon took the seat at her side, “To have lost the one you love and then come to a place with someone who looks like him but isn’t.”

Taking a sip of her tea Miranda turned to the other woman, “To be honest, the strangest thing about this is you.”

Gideon gave a soft laugh, “I can understand that. Now I remember my former life, I am still amazed to be human.”

Miranda studied her, “You seem familiar, like I already knew you. Can I ask where this appearance comes from?”

“It is how I decided to look,” Gideon shrugged, “It gave me a way to interact with my Captain easier within his dreams. I could not say for certain if the other version of me would have shown this façade to you but the Miranda I knew saw me like this frequently. Plus, I look hot.”

Laughing Miranda nodded, “Yes, you do.” Sobering she let out a soft sigh, “He loves you, and I remember when he looked at me that way.”

“He still looks at you that way,” Gideon took the other woman’s hand, “But the Miranda he knew died. His wife, who he loved with every part of him, was taken by people he trusted and seeing you hurts him more than even he understands. Why do you think he was so antagonistic when you first arrived? You know how well Rip deals with this sort of thing.”

“I lost my Rip,” Miranda reminded her.

“But he died a hero doing what he always did, protecting people,” Gideon replied, “Our Miranda was killed on the orders of the Time Masters, the people who raised you both and gave him a purpose. Rip tried so many times to save her, but there was no way for him to do so. It took him a lot of time to come to terms with the fact he couldn’t.”

“Now I feel bad for being jealous,” Miranda sighed.

“Jealous?”

“Because he still has you,” she explained to the former AI, “And I lost you both.”

Gideon’s arms were suddenly around her and Miranda smiled, leaning into the hug. It didn’t surprise her that a woman who once had no physical form would be so tactile.

“Thank you, Gideon,” Miranda breathed as they parted, “You’re still looking after me as well as Rip.”

Gideon smiled at her, “My Captain loves you, taking care of you ensures his happiness. That was my purpose.”

“What’s your purpose now?” Miranda asked.

“To love him,” Gideon replied with a shrug, “And raise the boy who calls me Mummy with him.”

Miranda sighed, “I’m sorry I interrupted that but…”

“You need our help,” Gideon finished for her, “And we will help you. Rip and team Flash are discussing how to acquire the Waverider with the one person who knows we are here.”

“Are you kidding me?”

Rip sighed, “Unfortunately not, Mr Rory. Can you tell me where the Waverider currently is?”

“We’re in 1658,” Mick told him.

“In the middle of a mission?” Rip asked.

“We’re finishing up,” he replied, “Getting the idiots back on board.”

Musing for a moment, Rip said, “Can you knock the crew out once you’re in the temporal zone?”

“Gideon left me instructions just in case,” Mick told him, “I’ll signal you once it’s done.”

“Thank you, Mr Rory.”

Cutting communication Rip turned to the three people watching him.

“Question,” Barry spoke up, “I know Mick is technically a good guy these days, but do you actually trust him for this?”

Rip nodded, “Mick understands that anything to do with the Time Masters technology has to be kept away from everyone. It’s the same reason he’s helping me hide Jonas.”

“Okay,” Barry nodded, “What’s your plan?”

“Currently, once Mick knocks out the Legends we take over the Waverider,” Rip told them, “Once Miranda gives me the co-ordinates we can do some reconnaissance then we can pull together a plan to stop Dobson.”

Cisco nodded, “Okay, Barry will give Wally a call to take over here at Star Labs while we’re away.”

“Wait,” Rip said before asking, “We?”

“You’re going after an interdimensional juiced up Time Master who’s out to destroy the universe,” Cisco said with a grin, “Of course we’re coming.”

A slight smile touched Rip’s lips, “Your help will be appreciated.”

“Their help?” Gideon asked as she walked back in with Miranda.

Rip turned to them, “It appears we will have a crew for this mission.”

A flash of excitement covered Miranda’s face quickly before it became impassive again, making Rip smile slightly. He knew how much Miranda adored the stories of the Central City heroes and the fact she would be getting to work with them on a mission was something she once told him she had dreamed about.

“Okay, while we wait for Mick to get back to us,” Barry said, “Let’s get our stuff together.”

“Captain Coburn,” Cisco moved to her side as they started out, “We should talk.

Gideon smiled watching the three heroes of Central City left the room with Miranda. Moving to Rip’s side she rested her hand on his arm.

“Are you alright?” she asked worriedly.

Rip shrugged, “You know we should be having dinner after our wedding right now?”

“I know,” Gideon said softly, smiling when he wrapped his arms around her, “But we’ll get this sorted and we can finish the ceremony, if that’s what you want?”

“Hey,” he said softly, tilting her face up so he could look into her eyes, “We’re going to fix this, and when we get back we’ll finish our wedding. Then have the honeymoon we were talking about.”

Gideon let out a soft sigh as he kissed her.

“But before we reset our memories,” Rip said giving her a pointed look, “You’re telling me how you became human.”

“It is not an interesting story,” Gideon shrugged, her arms wrapping around his waist, “It was a small magical accident. I was suddenly human, I no longer had a connection to my ship, so I asked Mr Rory to bring me here. To be with you.”

Rip smiled at her before whispering, “I’m sorry you lost your connection to the Waverider, I know that must have been hard for you.”

Cuddling close to him, Gideon sighed softly, “It was but I got you back, Captain. And it was all I wanted.”

Rip pressed a soft kiss to her lips, taking the few moments of time alone together.

Going off the episode's own logic. Saviter no longer exits becsuse iris didnt die. So the speed force prison that team Flash created should no longer exist - should no longer require a prisoner. The ending made no sense to me past Barry needs to suffer for his mistake - like this entire season with Iris's death looming and it being his fault wasn't already a punishment. What were your thoughts on the final? Do you think Barry will be back?

For starters, Barry will definitely be back. Maybe after a few months as a seasonal time-break, but 100% yeah. He’s the protagonist and main character, he’ll be back.

I also don’t think it was the intent of the speedforce to punish Barry. The speedforce punished Hunter Zoloman by making him The Black Flash; it punished Wally and Jay for getting involved in Barry’s fight and let them revisit their own personal hells. It punished Savitar in what it showed him in his own speedforce prison too, over and over, likely for how he was messing with time and dimensions.

But it invited Barry with a loving figure and promised he wouldn’t be in hell. It’s different. The speedforce plays favorites, and its favorite is Barry. It tried to warn him, more than once, and gave him back his speed last season, and now it doesn’t want him to suffer, even though it’s taking him.

So purposefully punitive… not so much. But punitive on a more meta-textual level? Hmm. I don’t think it’s punishment, but it is… consequences. Outcomes? Barry made a mistake. A whole series of them. Despite being warned not to. And now he has a serious consequence to face because of it.

So justice seems like a better word for it, to me? It’s a lesson to be learned, for him. Maybe a harsh one, but his own powers are harsh, and he has needed a reminder of that before, and of the way he can affect others when he doesn’t think through the consequences.

As for explaining the speedforce prison… I have some thoughts on that.

From what I understand, the creation of Flashpoint and then post-Flashpoint (Paradox) as timelines changed Barry’s life enough so that he created, encapsulated within Paradox, a time loop: Savitar.

And I was wondering for a while: why? Why is Savitar a necessity of Flashpoint? If he’s a loop, why/how did he come to exist in the first place? What about the creation of Flashpoint and Paradox created him?

And the best answer I can come up with is… the speedforce. And more specifically, a hole in the speedforce.

If you check out @trufflemores‘ fantastic explanation of the speedforce and what it is, she talks about it being a force that exists outside the multiverse, one that we can imagine is held back by an invisible sheet of glass, so to speak. Events like the particle accelerator explosion punch holes through that glass, and cause cracks, and that’s what allowed the speedforce to leak into the multiverse (into E1) and strike Barry as lightning.

But too many cracks and holes? And the glass shatters, and speedforce destroys the multiverse, as an infinite energy not being held back.

And I suspect that Barry’s massive shifts to the timeline with Flashpoint, in which he didn’t gain powers (but still had them) and Wally got struck by lightning instead, followed by his shift back to Paradox, a universe where he did get struck by lightning (and then lost and regained his powers, remember)… I suspect that all that put a lot more strain on the glass than was there before (which was already a decent amount, considering Barry’s trips into the speedforce and what happened at the end of S1 with the singularity, etc).

So there’s more cracks in it. More holes. Maybe the main crack/hole is getting too big. There’s a spot that’s not keeping the speedforce back and outside of the multiverse anymore.

And that’s a problem. A multiverse-ending one.

But the speedforce doesn’t want to destroy the universe, so it allows for a time loop in Paradox. A time loop that involves Barry, its prime speedster, and a stopgap for the biggest hole in the glass. That stopgap is Savitar’s prison.

In the time loop, there is (and has always been and will always be, now, because the speedforce exists at all points in time) a cage inside the speedforce, created by the material world and existing with technology from the material world, but held inside the speedforce. And that cage sits in a hole in the glass and prevents the speedforce from entering the multiverse in a flood that could shatter the rest of the glass. It’s necessary, now.

With Barry and his team dismantling the time loop (which, honestly, seems like the truly punitive part of all this: the speedforce tried to steal Iris from Barry and allowed him to create Savitar and suffer both as himself and a remnant) - anyway with them dismantling it, without a speedster to sit inside of it and keep it together and intact, the speedforce has no stopgap, and is leaking into E1 again through the cracks in the glass that the particle accelerator and now Barry’s time travels have made.

And at first it’ll be Central City, then E1, then the multiverse. Just like Zoom was aiming for. And of course, Barry, who has an intuitive connection the speedforce, understands that something to stop that is necessary. And that “something” is him. There’s no time to create something else, and no manmade technology is enough to fill the gap without a speedster – a living bridge between the speedforce and the material world – inside of it.

The 5 Books We Need from DC Rebirth

Rebirth is exactly what it needed to be for DC. DC had lost its footing since its hard reboot in 2011. Relationships had been broken off, characters were missing and the quality of storytelling was down on what it was before. Now it’s not to say that everything from DC’s New 52 and You eras were bad, far from it. Some of my most beloved runs come from the New 52 like Snyder’s Batman (before DC You) and Azzarello and Chiang’s Wonder Woman. It also contained some great moments like Forever Evil and The Darkseid War. And let’s not forget about Rob Williams excellent 12 issue Martian Manhunter series.

Now we are in full swing with Rebirth, and the goal of Rebirth was to bring back the heart of DC, what truly means to be a DC comic. The Pre-Flashpoint Superman returned, so did Wally West, Green Arrow and Black Canary finally got to meet and instantly fans were rejoicing that they were back together, the Justice Society Of America were teased to return, and Ted Kord got back behind the wheel of the bug. While some are working better than others, i’m looking at you Blue Beetle, the initial novelty of a nostalgia filled DC line-up is starting to drop. So what can they do to grab the attention back, i have 5 book suggestions that DC could use to really elevate this new status quo of the DC universe.

Blue and Gold

Where is Booster Gold? Well the Pre-52 version was last seen during convergence, where along with his New 52 doppelganger, his sister Goldstar and son from the future Rip hunter were key to the fall of Telos and Braniac. During this time the Pre-52 Gold fell into the earth-4 dome where he met the Charlton comics version of Ted Kord Blue Beetle a nice tease of what once was.

Ted Kord was reintroduced into the DC Universe at the end of Forever Evil where he refuses to sell Kord industries to Luthor, since then he has developed the beloved vehicle known as ‘The Bug’ and has become the mentor of the current Blue Beetle Jaimie Reyes. This however is the New 52 version of Kord, so he has never actually been the Blue Beetle and does not have the history with Booster Gold.

So where would this book come from? Well Jaimie doesn’t really want to be the Blue Beetle anymore, we could see Ted reunite with the Scarab. This is where we innovate, this time Ted finally bonds with the scarab giving him all the powers that Jaimie has. As for Gold, similar to how Wally has managaed to bring back the stolen memories of Barry and his fellow Titans, Booster when reunited would trigger Ted to remember his true best friend.

I argue for this book because while the whole line up ha become a bit more optimistic, DC are currently lacking comedy titles. Blue and Golds relationship has always been a fun but yet endearing and genuine aspects of the DC universe going way back to the days of the Justice League International. DC is really missing a big best friend duo and this book could be the answer.

Justice Society Of America

Team books have been great in Rebirth and the JSA is what started team books. Way back in the 1940s these heroes were keeping the world safe and while for many years they were made redundant, they made an epic return in the modern age and became a beloved aspect of the DC universe once again. In the new 52 the gang were re-imagined in Earth 2 as the Wonders Of The World, however many DC fans really didn’t like this.

Now DC have set the stage for the return of the JSA, Johnny Thunder was seen in DC rebirth as an old man in a retirement home where he is told to find the Justice Society, Kent Nelson Doctor Fate has been turning up in Blue Beetle and when Barry Allen entered the Speed Force he saw Jay Garrick’s hat.

So the premise, once they have all returned it would be nice to see them back in full force in a similar position to that of the JSA run by Geoff Johns where the older veterans were training newer heroes as part of the team. It would be nice to see Jay, Carter, Ted and Kent dealing with this new universe and training some new members, while reminiscing about their times in the war. Possibly using the same technique of the Wonder Woman comic telling two separate stories.

Wally West

When we talk about Legacy there is no character more important than the Flash. For 20 years, Jay Garrick was the flash, then for another Barry was the flash, but after the universe altering Crisis On Infinite Earths Wally West took the mantle. He stayed as The Flash for years to come and for a younger generation Wally is often seen as the definitive Flash.

In the New 52 Wally was replaced with a younger more brooding version of himself. This change did not please fans and for 5 years people were waiting for the return of the original Wally West. DC gave us that with the rebirth one-shot. Barry and his nephew were reunited and everything felt right again, Wally went on to reunite with the Titans and down the line hopefully rekindle his love with his wife Linda Park

While Titans first 6 issues has mainly dealt with Wally, it looks like it is about to head into some important Rebirth developments. For this reason it would be nice to see Wally break out into his own solo series where he can fight classic rogues, outsmarting their every move because he knows them all so well, while also trying to restart his relationship with Linda. Also we still await for the moment that Wally and Iris are reunited.

Black Adam

DC needs a Doom equivalent, a villain that is more complex than your average criminal but also has the capacity to do good. With Luthor tied up trying to be Superman and being the ruler of Apokilips, this role should go to Black Adam.

With DC now planning on splitting the Shazam movie into two with one focusing on The Rock’s Black Adam, now is the perfect time to launch this book. Following Black Adam being the ruler of Khandaq, where people worship him like a god, and having run ins with the some of the biggest names in DC. As Shazam himself hasn’t had the best of growths since the New 52 I feel it he would struggle to hold his own title. However that doesn’t mean he can’t face of with Black Adam, this book could reintroduce the Marvel family and even possibly Black Adams love Isis (they may want to change that name though).

Legends

Now i’m not usually a fan of cashing in off the movies or TV but sometimes it works. Legends could be a very special book. While a books called Legends Of Tomorrow gave us 4 ongoings in one including Metamorpho, Firestorm, Sugar and Spike and The Metal Men, this book would be a team book. It wouldn’t necessarily have to have the same roster but it should be a similar premise

Where this book could shine is ability to showcase unused characters, just imagine Rip Hunter could lead a team of Martian Manhunter, Firestorm, Red Tornado, Zatanna, Fire, Ice and Mister Miracle on an adventure through time. The roster could be ever changing and could act as more of anthology series showing short stories of the team stopping time aberrations.

The Show has taken a bunch of lesser characters and turned them into something really special, hopefully this book could do a similar thing.

So there you have it 5 books that could elevate the DC Rebirth line-up, and while some are more likely to happen then others (i’m looking at you again Blue Beetle) i truly believe that they would grab back those few DC fans that still haven’t found new hope within DC. While you wait for the slight possibility that these books come out, we are getting some new rebirth books in February. Marguerite Bennett and James Tynion take on Batwoman, Steve Orlando takes gives us a new Justice League Of America and Jorge Jiminez hits us with a new generation of World’s Finest with Super Sons. We also have Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s Batman centric JLA event and Geoff Johns Watchmen story to look forward to.

DC are back on the rise with Rebirth and we can only hope for more greatness as DC continue to unravel the mysteries of this new status quo.
