i rmbr i once read a comment abt a person describing their perception of portuguese as spanish spoken as if it was french, nd i could not. understand what the fuck they were talkin abt. until weeks later when one of my professors played some random video nd the narrator had a portuguese (european, derogatory) accent

I wanted to clarify some things because it seems like some of you are confused about the nationalities/ ethnic groups of the content creators on the server. So... If you want to educate yourself keep reading.

Spanish creators: A Spanish person is a person born in Spain. You may only call Spanish to the creators that were born in Spain.

Hispanic creators: A Hispanic person is a person whose mother language is Spanish but that person might not necessarily be from Spain (you may call them Spanish speaking creators as well but please don't call someone from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, etc. just "Spanish". If you're gonna use it make sure to put the "speaking" in front of it).

For example: Vegetta and Quackity are both Hispanic because both of them come from countries that speak Spanish (Spain and Mexico). Quackity, however is not Spanish while Vegetta is.

Latin American creators: A Latin American (most of the time people just use the word Latin) person is someone who was born in the Latin American region (a series of countries with historical, political and social similarities). Most countries in Latin American speak Spanish. However, not every country in Latín America speak Spanish.

Brazil, for example, speaks Portuguese.

Therefore: A Brazilian content creator is Latin American but not Hispanic (because they don't speak Spanish).

EDIT: (This is very important).

Please refrain from calling people from Brazil "Portuguese" they speak Portuguese because they were colonized by Portugal but Brazil is an independent country)

Another tip: Latin American people are vastly diverse.

So, Latinos can be Indigenous, black, white, mixed. Asian, etc.

EXAMPLES:

Roier (from Mexico) and Spreen (from Argentina) are both Hispanic and Latino.

Roier and Spreen, on the other hand, are not Spanish content creators because they do not come from Spain.

Rubius and Vegetta (from Spain): Can be called both Spanish (born in Spain) and Hispanic (born in a country that speaks Spanish).

Rubius and Vegetta however, cannot be called Latin American (Because they were born in a European country)

Cellbit and Forever (from Brazil) are Latin American.

Cellbit and Forever, however, are not Spanish (they weren't born in Spain) or Hispanic (they don't belong to a Spanish speaking country)

Okay, that's cool. I never really knew a lot about Brazil, but I love learning more about it. Bruce is really mister worldwide lol.

Summary: (Y/N) is Brazilian.

According to Jason, Bruce has become mister Worldwide. Why, I might hear you asking? He, as a playboy, sleeps with a lot of women. One of those women was a Brazilian model and the two had a son together. Bruce took a DNA first because he didn't want to take any type of chances.

It wouldn't be a first time that a woman tried to claim that a kid was his, but wasn't. Turns out, DNA came back telling him that (Y/N) was his son. Thankfully, the woman was very understanding and Bruce sent her money every month and he would visit when he could.

Unfortunately, (Y/N)'s mom passed away when he was a teen and he came to live in the USA with his father and half brothers. It was a little bit weird at first, a new city, a father who is a vigilante, his brothers too, a butler who is their handler so to speak...

Either way, it was weird, but he was happy to be here with his family. That was something that he thought that Americans were lacking sometimes. That feeling of tight nit love and family. His family, including grandmas, grandpas, aunts and much more lived within a walking distance from him.

Okay, that may sound like Americans don't share that same sentiment about family, but (Y/N) didn't really see it. It may that in Brazil that is just amplified by 10 or it could be something else of course. However, his family is tight knit and very loving.

(Y/N) didn't think that he would have that here in America, but hey, he can't really complain can he.

However, there is a single thing he will fight until the day he dies. His fellow Brazilian men and women, his brothers and sisters would agree. Soccer is not football. Football is football, you play with your feet. That's why is so popular.

And that's why Europeans and Latinos went nuts for it. Honestly, (Y/N) watches every game with Brazil's national team, even if Bruce had to pay more for the program. He has the money. He can't let his son suffer, can he?

Also, American Football should be named American Soccer, because the ball is never on the ground. (Y/N) will die by that statement and he will fight everyone he needs to fight with to prove it.

Until his last breath and last drop of blood.

One thing he loves more than anything, alongside the football of course, is the famous Rio de Janeiro carnival. He made Bruce and the rest of the family go every single year with him. Thankfully, he still has his Brazilian passport with him.

And the family has a translator for when they go, because not a lot of people speak English, only in bigger cities and popular tourist sites. It's fun to see (Y/N) speak his native language with so much passion and everyone has decided to learn it to talk to (Y/N).

(Y/N) was proud and nothing but supportive, even though at times they were butchering the language, but it's always the thought that matters. And Portuguese is an easier language to pick up. (Y/N) even had some rewards for them.

Every time they could hold a some what correct conversation when it comes to grammar and vocabulary, they would get a dish from the Brazilian cuisine. It's the famous Feijoada and it's just (Y/N)'s favorite. Everyone loved when (Y/N) made it and it was with his grandma's recipe.

That's what motivated them to learn, because even Damian swore by that dish and he loved it the most. Bruce and the rest loved it, it was different then the rest of the American cuisine. Of course, (Y/N) introduced them to another dishes, but everyone loved the Feijoada.

(Y/N) knew it.

One thing he loves is listening to Anitta. He loves her music and they would often find him dancing while he was cleaning, dusting, vacuuming and other times. It made him happy and Bruce found (Y/N) humming the melody and the lyrics every day.

Everyone soon knew the lyrics to the songs and the melody. And besides, they are all learning Portuguese and it was fun to learn it that way. Dick found her songs great and listened to it during his workouts and Dick loved it.

And one thing that Bruce was proud of was the fact that (Y/N) didn't decided to assimilate. He still has his values and he wasn't afraid to say that he is Brazilian. If he has an interview he is often found correcting people and he is not afraid to say it.

Due to the fact that he is not afraid to say he is from Brazil, people of Brazil have claimed him and whenever he comes, they just shower him with love. He is extremely popular and Bruce knows he shouldn't worry about it, but still.

Bruce worries about his children all of the time, especially when they are in another country, especially on vacation. (Y/N) often told him not to worry and did Bruce listen?

No.

One thing more thing that made Bruce love Brazil more than anything in this world is the fact that they take their hygiene more than some Americans do. (Y/N) said to everyone that during the summer he would take 3 showers per day sometimes.

Damian found that interesting. Brazil is a humid and hot country, considering that it's a tropical country and the heat is often unforgiving.

(Y/N) said that the shower made him slow down and think about relaxing. He often clears his head and feels less stress afterwards. He has explained the shower routine, but still, the family they don't really understand it, but hey, as long (Y/N) is happy.

And one thing that Brazilians love doing that Bruce found nice was the way that they are affectionate. Kisses, hugs and touching. Of course, with consent. (Y/N) understood that not really liked it, but his family loved it.

Damian would often get picked randomly and hugged from behind. Damian would often grumble about it, but he loved it. Bruce loved the hugs and the rest loved the hugs too.

Bruce was just happy that one of them was normal emotionally. (Y/N) was trained in martial arts to protect himself, like everyone, but decided to not be a vigilante. He just couldn't be and Bruce respected it.

(Y/N) was their safety net and nobody would have it any other way.

WANNA LEARN SOME HISTORY???

Cool because I have a test tomorrow and I want to write abt it >:3

So let's say we are in the beautiful year of 1870. You are a germanic state trying to unite to other germanic states so you can form a massive empire.

Now let's say you are France. You see a powerful nation being born and decide " Well that's threatening " So you know what you have to do: boicot it ofc

But then they realise what you have been trying to do and invade your country as revenge. They do it with ease, and they go to your simbol of power in Paris, The Versalles (idk how to write that in English lol) and establish themselves as a nation: The Germanic-Prussian empire (again, the term in portuguese I think is "Império Germânico-Prussiano" and Idk how that translates.) And then just leave, but keeping a little part of your country with them. ( portugues expression incoming- Uma espinha entalhada no orgulho francês)

So after that there is a ton of peace and cultural flourishment, in am epoque designated for "Belle Èpoquè" in wich there is like a looot of beautiful things. Let's say the social side of it. People started having more fun since they worked less and the middle class was emerging rapidly. The cinemas, Caffès, operas, theatres, films/movies, amusement parks, all were created at this time. Also penicillin, as they were ton of medical advances at that time. They created the telefone and the plane and the car and WOW everything is beautiful.

In art we see two main themes -> women and nature (often together). Details are suuuuuper important. Clothes get more baloney and plain, with big puff shoulders that were so big that they had to be stored with pillows inside in order not to lose shape. Buildings are BEAUTIFUL and everything is really. It's a great time for humans.

Then people start to get greedy. Africa, still unexplored in its interior is object of many country's desire. They are 5 main countrys who had colonies before: Portugal, Spain, England, France and Holland. 3 new countries want to have some colonies too: Italy, Germany and Belgium.

In 1885 a conference is hosted in Berlim to divide Africa between European countries, being two main things that are considered:

Historical right- given to the 5 starters for beig there the longest/ already having stuff there

Ocupation right- If the country is willing to explore, populate, and take care of that area. The ones who got the most following this right are the 3 big rich countries: England, France and Germany.

Overall the ocuparion right is prioritized, so Portugal comes up with The Pink Map ( no specific reason for the name it was just the color lmao), wich claims to Portugal the lands between the Angolan and Mozambican coast. This is approved.

BUT the English ofc wanted to build a giant train line that connected Cairo and Cape Town, so they needed our ( Portugal's )territory, and since they had like massive belic power the got us and Ultimatum, so that we either leaved or got into war. The king at the time, D. Carlos gave in and England NEVER MADE THE TRAIN LINE WHAT OMG.

ngl one thing that makes me really weak for Nedpan is the thought of them being mutually fluent in each other’s languages. precisely because dutch and japanese are so different structurally; there’s so much more effort you have to put in, than if you’re learning within the same language family. and in 1853, when perry’s ships arrive, the americans historically had to use a english-dutch-japanese translation chain to talk to the japanese. 

i feel like dutch was probably the first european language Kiku really made the effort to learn properly because of Jan; like he might’ve picked up a smattering of portuguese but lol, the 1540s—1599 is a lot of ‘political instability at home, too busy being a warlord and also tried to invade korea and then china and failed and died’, compared to the comparative peace of later isolationism. also, portuguese imperial ventures had already begun in the asia-pacific (Macau); Port probably became fluent in at least one chinese dialect (Cantonese, probably) which Kiku would know from centuries of contact with Yao. that ends up being the convenient bridge language. but he’s got a lot more impetus to learn Dutch if he wants to really understand Jan on his own terms. besides dutch studies/rangaku, there were samurai houses whose job was to specialise as dutch interpreters in nagasaki during the isolationist period. 

for Jan, i see him becoming fluent not only with japanese speech, but the writing and even the more archaic, complicated classical japanese. it starts with him crashing ashore with scurvy in that 1600 shipwreck on De Liefde, and facing the uneasy dynamic with the portuguese jesuit missionaries (whom could serve as useful interpreters but also tried to convince tokugawa ieyasu to execute the dutch crew as pirates lol). so that’s what first makes him try to learn Japanese. like damn, it’s easy to take language for granted until you’re tossed in a place where suddenly you’re robbed of the power to make yourself directly understood on a fundamental level. there’s always a potential loss of meaning, expression and intimacy when you have to go through an interpreter. so for Jan, i think it starts out being about practicality—but when you become more and more fluent in a language and then you’re delving into the poems, classics and philosophy of another culture? it becomes something intensely intimate. and just combined with the sapir-whorf theory (the language you speak influences how you think and see the world), it’s poetic! just all ‘we learned each other’s language and culture and therefore each other’.

*Squid Squidward wide awake meme* ALRIGHT, hear me out - I've been saying for a while how much Witcher 3 reminds me of the Brazilian countriside (more specific Minas Gerais). And ever since I had this madlad dream of a Brazilian Witcher except we called them Bruxeiros (the X here is pronounced like "SH" not like the American "X" - its kind of a meme here, kind of a "literal" PT-BR translation, it's complicated), and they fight Brazilian folklore badass stuff like Boitatá (fucking giant fire snake), Iaras (river mermaids) and un-curse women that became Mula Sem Cabeça (literally headless mules running around with fire coming out their necks). These are all some of our most well-known folklore for real, lol (HIGHLY recommend season 1 of Brazilian Netflix show Invisible City if you wanna see more! It's REALLY good!)

ANYWAY. I was in my kitchen making toast at midnight, when it occured to me. I had A VisionTM. Brazilian Witcher battle music would be like. Floral Fury.

For those unfamiliar, this specific Cuphead theme is 200% oldschool Brazilian samba - yeah the "weird straw-against-plastic-lid" sound is an actual instrument, it's called cuíca lol "Nah, but this is too happy and cheerful", you say. Alright, you are correct, maybe it doesn't fit to be a battle theme for the Bruxeiros. HOW ABOUT SEPULTURA, THEN

SEPULTURA, THE BRAZILIAN METAL BAND, who performed this song as soundtrack for the BR movie "Lisbela e o Prisioneiro" (one of my fucking faves btw), and it the theme song for Frederico Evandro, a character who's ruthless hitman ("Matador").

BRO. IMAGINE. The peaceful and colorfully bucolic countryside of Minas Gerais and you are there fighting a Brazilian Werewolf (cause they are different from the European werewolf, we have several types btw), with THAT playing as battle theme.

Another good contender is Break of Reality's rendition of "As Bachianas n5" by Villa-Lobos (guy was a badass proeminend classical music composer who loved to mix in Brazilian folk elements with the classical music sttuff, pissing off a lot of purists in the process lol, good for him)

"As Bachianas n5" is probably Villas' most famous piece, it's originally a GORGEOUS aria, classically sung in Brazilian Portuguese.

SEVERAL people covered this song, including Sandy from sibling duo Sandy & Junior (they were EXTREMELY POPULAR with kids and teens back in the 90s/early 2000s); also people from all around the world covered it. You get it, it's pretty legit and famous AF.

THEN came Break of Reality a few years ago

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE VERSIONS OF THIS SONG. I STAN THIS COVER SO HIGH. I LOVE how it is sweet and emotional, but it brings a totally different, new, raw aspect to it that is so strangely fitting to this song (I can't explain, it just is). I can easily imagine this in the Bruxeiro!AU as battle music, even more cause a lot of the og Witcher 3 OST is full of slavic folk music that doesn't even reflect the Battling of Monsters thing - "...Steel For Humans" is like, a song sung by girls on wedding/harvest festivals, lol.

ON THAT NOTE, I think we could end this crazy ass post by including some of the folk / afro-Brazilian culture as well, which is only fair, and add this one, which I LOVE, "Caxangá / Escravos de Jó" by Milton Nascimento (my beloved <3) and folk singer Clementina de Jesus:

Milton is known to sing in high, ethereal vocalizations and extremely emotional lyrics. Guy is just A Fucking Legend fr. If there's a bard in my Bruxeiro!AU it's def Milton, I love his work so so so much! He's also known for mixing up influences from afro-brazilian culture, as you can see in here!

Just so y'all know how one of Lisbon's train station was yesterday... (There were more people downstairs literally sleeping on the floor because of this event - youth world journeys or whatever the name is English)

I think it was a total of 1.5M pilgrims. That's more than Lisbon's population in a good day.

Then the roads were blocked for cars.

There was a girl who fainted next to where I was due to dehydration and the police was next to her and she was still waiting for an ambulance when I departured because the ambulancea couldn't even get through.

All because of religion (an event I was very against, not because it's religious, but because we live in a secular government (?) - basically, religion and the government are two different things - and the government invested in this event).

I'm a Cristian myself and I found this to be pure bullshit (I'm not even talking about all the controversies going on in the Portuguese catholic church right now). If religion and politics are two different things, it should stay that way.

"Ah, but the government invested in concerts like Coldplay, Taylor Swift etc" that's culture, and they didn't spent 40 MILLION EUROS ON A STAGE! Also, we should invest more in culture. 17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic?

I have learned so much insane stuff over fanfic... Are you aware the amount of Cicada knolegde there is on the internet? I do after writing that lil Hiking story (I have decided to make Miles the bug and amphibian guy, idk why.) I learned so much about circuses and flying trapeze, I've read several articles about sword fighting for Noble Blood, about how to fix a roof in 1915 Uk, I can list the international and European volleyball competitions happening and the whole volleyball vocab I only knew in Portuguese... Let's not even mention the amount of time @harnitbee and I spent discussing the way to adress nobility I'm pretty sure I could even greet them correctly if I met a Lord lol

27. Is there a fic you were nervous to post/share? Why?

All of them because I'm mostly sure my writing is shit

But a specific one? I don't know, I really strugle with posting bc I honestly think most of my stuff are not really all that good or all that interesting... I'm learning to deal with it.

I struggled a bit with Bad Habits bc I honestly thought it was shit but I was surprised to see people liked it. Some more angsty chapters were also a big struggle bc I poured a lot into them and not always I feel they are deep enough or sometimes i feel they are not too deep. The amount of times I messaged my friends like "is this shallow? What feelings am I missing here?" is insane.

Yeah, that thing... The BR dub tried it too, but from another approach -- By making both Michael and Wallace being the same character, voiced by the same voice actor. As a kid i didn't care much for that detail, but later as a teen i started to question "wait, where's Terriermon!? What happened to Terriermon!?!?!" when i got to meet "anime Willis"

It's still a big mystery if this came from another source for the BR dub (like, how happened with the European Portuguese which came from Spain dub... and there they just changed Iori's gender due a misinterpretation of his DW outfit looking more like a dress or something...?) OR if this was just an isolated case and the BR dub was the only one to have Michael and Wallace "turned into one single character" 🤔

※ And i'm aware the American dub made both Jou's bros -- Shin [who appeared in Adventure] and Shuu [who appeared in 02] -- into one single brother... But not further details... So i guess same experience here but with different characters??

Forever woke up!! He was wearing his president outfit lol. He had a weird dream before he woke up, though, of Richas waking him up and then it glitched to Ordo Theoritas. All the Brazillians were there with Richas in the center and then Forever woke up for real.

Cellbit was the first to see him and immediately caught him up on all the stuff concerning the maze. So many people came to visit him. Foolish, Tubbo, Roier, Mouse, Pol, Niki, etc.

He had a private talk with Bad. (I missed the first part of their convo.) Forever said he didn't choose to be drugged. He called Bad his family and promised to bring his color back. Bad said the only way to do that was to bring the eggs back. Then he asked if the Feds told Forever anything and Forever said he didn't remember much but would tell Bad if anything came to him. Bad also gave him a bunch of stuff.

Pac and Forever had a heartfelt convo, too. I don't speak Portuguese (yet) and the subtitles wouldn't work but apparently they were talking to each other about how coming off the drugs felt. For Forever, it felt like being ripped in half.

Forever asked where Phil was, since he remembers him, Bad, and Cellbit being there before he got knocked out. Tubbo said he should be back by Monday.

They all got a message to pick up Bagi. Apparently she was requested by Forever according to The Duckling.

Bagi met Walter Bob, who working on some tasks. He asked Bagi to help him. So she started doing some tasks while everybody else failed to complete a puzzle while lava slowly rose (Feel like it's worth noting the buildings they were in were white with black splotches. Another thing is they got the riddle, "What must be broken before it can be used?" "An egg") (Fun facts about q!Bagi: She's vegetarian and she has an imaginary friend named Jorge(her chat) and she's an amnesiac)

Admins eventually teleported everyone into the building with Bagi (after Walter Bob left), which eventually started to get filled with lava. The admins eventually had to teleport everyone else out if I remember correctly.

Bagi also got a book that gave her access to The Main Channel.

She also hates Forever for bringing her to the island.

According to liveblogs, Forever tried getting some info from Quackity. Idk if he was successful. He eventually went back to the house with fake Richas and broke the pictures of flowers and the Rochas. That's where his stream ended.

Also according to liveblogs, Tubbo wrote a secret book to Fred asking for their side of the story about the maze. He also went looking for eggs again.

Bagi was given a tour of the island by Roier and Cellbit.

Bad was sadly singing happy birthday to Pomme and Dapper. Tina, Foolish, and Pac saw how sad he was and joined in. Then Bad apparently threatened Pac when he asked if he was crying.

And it's started to get late for me so I'm going to bed. I hope this was helpful and I hope future events are earlier for you guys.
