"Okay, what is wrong with you people?" "Will you just spare us the middle-class morality? It's not like they were brother and sister." - Hal Cooper, Clifford Blossom (all the dialogue from this scene is gold tbh)
"Slut shaming. It's what they call it when sluts get shamed." - Alice Cooper (iconic and beyond reproach)
"Alice Cooper - no longer lactose intolerant I see." - Hermione Lodge (been haunted by this line for six and a half years what the FUCK does this line mean)
"There's the sticky, dark, dirty truth. Maple syrup. Drown in it why don't you!" - Penelope Blossom (she's literally SO dramatic in this scene especially considering what we find out scenes later happened)
"I'm so sorry to interrupt your adultery, Fred." - Alice Cooper
"You remember our Homecoming, Alice?Hal? Back in the day? Your mom ever tell you about that night? ("Just that she and my dad were king and queen.") "Yeah they were - of hell." - FP Jones (this whole scene is also great but you KNOW this bitch thought he was so clever coming up with this little quip)
"I mean is there not a nice gay kid at your school?" - Tom Keller (#1 ally)
"I didn't realize that you were a polyamorist." "I don't think that's an actual word." - Alice Cooper, Mary Andrews

I’ve seen a few takes on the whole “Is the writing actually bad or are you trying to order a milkshake from the hardware store?” genre expectations thing for OFMD s2 and I’m gonna add my own.
Yes, I know it’s billed as a lighthearted pirate romcom. And s1 was just that. But s1 also had some incredibly solid character arcs and thematic elements and layers and so much depth that were shaped by some more serious dramatic bits here and there.
I wasn’t expecting that going into it. In s1, I was expecting to go into the hardware store for hardware, as anyone would, because it’s advertised as a hardware store. But then I got there and discovered that this particular hardware store also happened to sell milkshakes. I didn’t expect milkshakes from a hardware store, especially not really good milkshakes since that seems like it might be a tough thing to sell together, but they were able to keep the hardware out of the milkshakes and vice versa, so it was great. You didn’t have to order a milkshake if milkshakes weren’t your thing and you never planned on ordering one since it’s ultimately a hardware store. You could just come for hardware. You could also really just come for the milkshakes if you wanted to, but it was still really clear that we were getting that milkshake from a hardware store.
And then s2 started and the hardware store spent three episodes really expanding on the milkshake sales. To the point it was like wow, if I hadn’t been told this was a hardware store, I’d almost think it was a milkshake shop. And since it was ultimately meant to be a hardware store, they clearly had to try and sell some hardware, but that seemed like it ended up being a little hard to make room for with how much of the store had been filled with milkshakes, so suddenly there are some milkshakes made with nails and screws, and there are toolboxes and lumber with milkshakes spilled on them. And idk maybe they should’ve served fewer milkshakes if they still were gonna try and sell that much hardware, because these things really don’t always mix and now we can’t really use either of them like that. But still, they just kept making more and more and more milkshakes until the blenders just exploded and there’s just this gigantic milkshake mess everywhere.
So at the onset of e4 it’s like okay, yeah, I have faith that this hardware store will definitely clean up the milkshakes because they’re clearly all over this place; it can hardly even be a hardware store til the milkshakes are cleaned up. But then besides a handful of paper towels that are used to clean up a little tiny puddle of milkshake, everyone just… resumes work selling hardware? Despite the fact that they’re still just walking around in the gigantic milkshake mess??
And that just keeps going til there’s only one episode left and it’s like geez idk why they still haven’t cleaned up the milkshakes I hope they can somehow. That seems tough with so little time left, but this place started as really great hardware store that sold quality milkshakes, so maybe they can pull it off.
But then instead, the CEO of the hardware store decides to unexpectedly murder one of the hardware store employees and says it was a kindness because said employee was just so sticky from the milkshakes that never got cleaned up. Which doesn’t seem like a valid reason AT ALL? and even in a messy, milkshake-covered hardware store, that WASN’T something anyone would typically expect to see?? Plus it still did NOTHING to clean up the milkshakes??
And a lot of us are left just asking “i don’t understand, why did no one clean up the milkshakes???” and for some reason, the response to that often seems to be “hardware stores don’t sell milkshakes”. No, they usually don’t, but this one did. None of us would have ever tried to order a milkshake if it hadn’t been established that this specific hardware store has always sold them, and we’re a little concerned that it’s still just covered in them.
It was also super confusing that the hardware store locked its doors and stuck an “out of business forever” sign up while also still planning to open again like usual but said that if they don’t, at least everyone got a happy ending.
Like… um I really don’t think they did and either way I’m a little wary about shopping at this hardware store again.

My souring sentiments on Sailor Moon's manga
It'll be a surprise to no one who knows me even remotely that Sailor Moon was my everything back in my childhood. From the age of 9, I was utterly obsessed with it.
That was just a couple of years shy of 30 years ago.
Tumblr media
Since then, I've often revisited the series. I watched the entirety of the Viz dub of the classic anime; all 200 episodes.
And I loved it all the same, if not more so than before. Because now I have context for why exactly the anime was the way it was, including its gradual diversion from the manga source material. And I respect the hell out of the staff who poured their life into this work, while concurrently running with the manga and doing whatever it could to not completely outpace it in the narrative.
Are there a lot of fillers in the OG anime? Yes. Too many? Well, not so from a functional standpoint (this show had to run weekly for 5 years), but there are definitely some fillers you could skip and miss nothing in doing so.
But a story like Sailor Moon honestly needed some breathing room in order to properly flesh out the cast.
Tumblr media
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, the live-action reimagining of the show, was phenomenal back then (despite looking low-budget even by 2003 standards), and having re-watched the whole series recently, I can safely say PGSM more than holds up and deserves way more love and respect than it gets. It's THE perfect example of reimagining the story of Sailor Moon while still respecting its roots and maintaining the soul of the franchise.
Tumblr media
Which is exactly why I couldn't stand Sailor Moon Crystal. We knew from the off that it was supposed to be completely faithful to the manga, but one look through @crystalvsmanga will show you Crystal took shitloads of "creative liberties", and the amount of changes I could dare to call "good"? I could count them on one hand.
The animation is low-hanging fruit, because everyone and their dog knows how godawful it was for the first two story arcs. But more than that, I actually loathed the general art design. Yukie Sakou's style DID NOT closely resemble Naoko Takeuchi's. People kept saying it, but I couldn't really see it. The eyes especially are a far cry from Takeuchi's style. And Sakou's style did NOT facilitate the OTT cartoony expressions that were definitely present in Takeuchi's manga; everyone looked so goddamn soulless, like overly-expensive porcelain dolls.
My biggest gripe with Crystal was the story, of course. While a great deal came from just being from the manga (which I'll get to in a bit), the changes they made went a long way to actively make the manga's story worse. My main takeaway from Crystal S1-2 is that it took itself waaaaay too seriously.
Tumblr media
That being said, I did like Crystal's third season a lot better BECAUSE Chiaki Kon had way more competence and held a lot more respect for Sailor Moon. Like, my god, for once it felt like there was a soul in this show! It can actually take the piss every now and then!
Some silly things kinda broke my immersion (such as the Senshi just being able to fuckin' fly and Chibi-Moon in particular was literally sky-stepping), but most of that can be blamed on the source material it was adapting. While I was fine with Crystal3, I definitely didn't feel it was anywhere near as good as Sailor Moon S. Outside of Hotaru/Sailor Saturn having more of a presence, there wasn't really much in Crystal's take on Infinity that I liked better than S.
But most of that comes down to the fact that I liked S more than manga's Infinity arc to begin with.
Tumblr media
Which is a good segue to talk about the manga proper.
I have not yet watched Eternal or Cosmos. the movies that adapted the last two manga arcs, but it'd be redundant since I know ahead of time what they're going to be about, and so far I haven't heard about any of them deviating from the source material, so it'd be moot to talk about them even if I had watched.
When I first got my hands on the manga, which was when I was around 12-13 and thus got the crappy MiXxZine translations, I was fine enough with it. Thought it was too fast-paced and didn't care for 99% of the villains being one-and-done jobbers, but I was also reading it with my impressions of the 90's anime characters still intact. I was reading the manga like an extension of the anime, rather than the other way around.
It wasn't until many years later when I grew older, when the manga was properly translated, when I acquired the wisdom my teenaged-ass self lacked, and learned to look at the manga as a completely separate entity that I started to see the cracks in the manga's narrative.
Further rereads have left me in something of a mindfuck, as I experienced the manga the proper way. And I realized:
The more I read the manga, the more I disliked it.
Tumblr media
The manga is lauded for having an infinitely better depiction of Mamoru, as well as his ~Miracle Romance~ with Usagi.
Objectively, the manga definitely spends lots more time giving UsaMamo attention as a couple than any other aspect of the story...
I'd say they're also more developed as individuals in the manga too, but usually the beats, uh...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... let's say they usually ring hollow, when these two (and sometimes their daughter) are the only ones who consistently get shit done across the series. Hell, on the rare occasion that the Inner Senshi weren't rendered into street pizza, Neo Queen Serenity basically told them to fuck off and let her daughter, past self, and past hubby take on motherfucking DEATH PHANTOM/NEMESIS BY THEMSELVES.
It's likely because my first exposure to Sailor Moon was via the 90s anime, which had more of a focus on friendship and comradery between Usagi and her friends than it did her romance with Mamoru. I mean, romance was DEFINITELY a prominent thing even in that iteration of the story, but that wasn't where my interest lied. I was, am currently, and always will be more interested in Usagi's galpals than I'll ever be interested in her love life.
And, well, I'm sure this qualifies as a hot take, but...
Tumblr media
This one moment with Usagi and Mamoru in the elevator (hell, their interaction across this entire episode was great) resonated with me far more than any ultra-romantic declarations of eternal devotion that Usagi and Mamoru kept regurgitating at each other in the manga.
Tumblr media
Granted, the manga had a FEW moments early on where their dynamic was more playful, but they were pretty much confined to the early chapters and this element of their chemistry pretty much died not long after this.
Some say 90s anime Mamoru was far too mean-spirited in his teasing of Usagi. And I mean, sure, he was kind of a douche at times, but he usually got some karmic blowback from it (I remember one time he made Usagi cry without even really meaning to, and she cried so loud in public that randos nearby were giving Mamoru the evil-eye or a scolding). But honestly, after R, Mamoru kinda became a bland, generic love interest, just as he almost always was in the manga. The only difference was that anime Mamoru was never granted powers that were literally equal to Usagi's. The manga gave him a GOLDEN FUCKING CRYSTAL.
There was that infamous break-up arc in R that, yes, was shitty in concept and execution. But if I had anything positive to say about it, it at least shook up the status quo. It didn't make him immediately fall into the bland, generic love interest he would soon become. And it gave us some of the most emotionally-charged Usagi moments in the entire anime.
Tumblr media
Conversely, in the manga, we had THIS shit for our UsaMamo "drama":
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the former incident with Usagi literally accusing her boyfriend of falling in love with a kid, by the way, happened while MOST OF HER FRIENDS WERE KIDNAPPED BY THE ENEMY AND COULD'VE BEEN DEAD FOR ALL SHE KNEW AND YET SHE FUCKING HAD TIME FOR THIS STUPID SHIT)
Everything seemed to revolve around Usagi and Mamoru (sometimes Chibiusa too). It lowkey came off that way at times even in the 90s anime, but in the manga or Crystal? You'd be hard-pressed to find the girls engaging in their stated hobbies at most points in time, because they're usually all together and talking about their prince and princess.
Hell, even Haruka - Sailor Uranus herself - seemed much more interested in Usagi than she ever did in Michiru, her actual girlfriend.
Tumblr media
So... am I just missing something? I've seen people say that as they grow older, they prefer the manga/Crystal to the 90s anime. But I've never seen anyone other than myself express the opposite sentiment.
But it's true - unless I completely leave my brain at the door, I have a hard time enjoying the manga for what it is. The characters I'm most interested in or attached to quickly get swept aside for the characters I have the least interest in. No more does that ring true than the Stars arc of the manga, where Naoko Takeuchi basically speedruns killing off literally the entire cast until Sailor Moon's the only one left standing. Most characters don't even get to go out in a blaze of glory or anything - it's got nothing on the finale of the 90s anime's first season in that regard. If you're lucky, you'll get a single panel where your entire existence is ripped to shreds - but sometimes you'll be killed literally off-screen!!
Tumblr media
There's a number of questionable manga-exclusive aspects that rubbed me the wrong way as well, such as poor Sailor Pluto being assigned as a child to guard the Door of Time in complete and total solitude. While I appreciate more Silver Millennium lore that the manga provided (the anime hardly mentioned it past the first arc), it was more than a little uncomfortable knowing the OG Queen Serenity conscripted the Inner Senshi as small children to become Princess Serenity's guardians. Really casts Queen Serenity and her Moon Kingdom in a much darker light - like maybe Queen Beryl and Queen Nehelenia had a point in trying to take them down (though the manga I believe retcons all past villains as incarnations of Chaos, so that arguably removes all prior villains' agency?). Lots of little things that I didn't think twice about, but now that I look at them again, I'm wondering WTF Naoko Takeuchi was thinking.
Though I don't want to be too hard on her. Poor girl was working under stress far longer than she'd planned to (she'd intended on ending the story either by the Dark Kingdom or Black Moon arc), so it's no surprise there's a lot of clunk and clutter in the narrative.
Tumblr media
I often wondered if Naoko Takeuchi really wanted to make Sailor Moon with a Super Sentai-esque setup in the first place. After all, her first big hit was Sailor V, which was exclusively Minako and Artemis fighting evil with Minako having her own masked love interest she ended up being at odds with and he eventually died. With a scant few secondary characters here and there.
It led to me thinking about what Sailor Moon would be like if Naoko kept the cast to a more Sailor V-like size. That, perhaps, the Sailor Moon she really wanted to make would be quite a different beast from how we know it to be today.
So this lengthy diatribe about my personal conflicts with my waning fondness for the manga versus my strengthened love for the OG anime and live-action show was actually a preamble to a bizarre AU I wrote an outline for over a year ago but never posted in public. I had considered posting it to Sailor Moon's Reddit back then, but I (probably wisely) held off, as my musing went way off the rails.
But I figured now's a good time as any to share it here, at least. Though it'll need to be its own post since I wrote so goddamn much in this post alone, wow.
On that note, I'll end with this: The only iteration of UsaMamo that I unironically enjoyed and rooted for is...

Big Ethel Energy Season 2 Episode 29
Tumblr media
I'm reacting strongly to what feels like literal ace/aro erasure and honestly aphobia the more I think about it. Aromantic, asexual, and or aroace people are really just getting their shit kicked in the narrative of this comic and it's upsetting.
They made the antagonist/source of conflict in Ethel's Season 1 narrative Jughead, who in Season 1 was very strongly implied to be aroace, but now they're just backtracking on both him being ace and aro.
It's so sad and frustrating to see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look Mr. Lodge isn't generally viewed in positive terms. He's associated with and concerned with money, self-interest, and his businesses, but the fact we're just getting judgement calls without even seeing evidence of Hiram character or what even his goal is with running for city council once again forces the reader to side with Ethel and her friends.
Tumblr media
I love Nancy and her character, and of course when it comes to these situations you want the underdog who works hard and clearly cares about the city to win an election, but I don't think the comic takes into account that to be a contender in a political elections you need experience and resources to win. This panel might portray that it's Nancy's actions or resolve that is what might lead to her potentially losing this election, but honestly I think that it's a lack of experience and resources in which to convince people to vote for her for Mayor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this? After a whole fucking season of alluding and pretty much confirming in all ways except explicitly through the words that that Jughead is asexual and/or aromantic.
It feels like a retcon or wishy-washy writing in which the author purposefully kept Jughead's sexuality and romantic identity vague (aka did not explicitly state he was asexual and/or aromantic) in order to keep him open to potential future love interests. It feels like an insult because the way Jughead is written in the first season and in particular his explanation to Ethel that he has never wanted sex and never wanted anyone romantically (the only exception to that is Trula):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(S1, Episode 58)
Yes, sexuality is fluid, but that is not what is going on in this case.
His sexuality in Season 1, which very clearly reads as Ace and/or Aro is just swept aside. The author is back tracking on their own writing and it's so frustrating and insulting to see because the Ace and Aro representation that we got with Jughead in Season 1 wasn't even remotely good or positive because he is put as Ethel's central antagonist in her personal story and narrative because he was an eighteen year old boy who has sex with Ethel in order to fully understand that he did not have any interest in sex or romantically attracted to her.
The whole first season, if you look at Ethel and Jughead's conflict, is simply the vilifying of asexuality and those who are aromantic. That's it. That is the crux of Ethel's entire conflict.
She blames all of her romance-based troubles on this one moment and one person without once looking inward. Jughead should not be held accountable or vilified because he had sex.
Tumblr media
-SIGH- It is just so goddamn upsetting that this is the narrative that was portrayed and one along the way said or thought that anything was wrong.
And you know what? This perspective is even more upsetting and disappointing because the comic appears or tries to be inclusive as we explicitly have gay characters, trans characters, lesbian characters, disabled characters, and more who are open in their identities, but asexuality and aromanticism don't even get an explicit mention. The words "asexuality," "aromantic," or "aroace" are not once mentioned in the comic. Jughead isn't even the only character who qualifies as aromantic. Trula is written in a way that suggests she's aromantic (Season 1, Episode 48; Trula after being described to pick up guys one after the other states that relationships don't interest her), and yet asexuality and aromanticism are utilized as a source of conflict, are treated as erasable, and simply not treated with the same respect or standard as other identities are mentioned in this comic.
As I have stated it's frustrating and infuriating as a reader and especially as a reader who cares about asexuality and aromantic identities and its representation.
There was more I had to say about this episode but honestly Ethel's elitism can take a back seat as I find the topic of how BEE represents, treats, and writes about asexuality and aromanticism insulting.

REGINA MILLS ANALYSIS
I may get things wrong, so I'm putting information I know of or believe in the most. I still may get it wrong, so correct me. I'm going to talk about Regina's problematic actions, relationships she was in, and a bit of widely talked about topics. Also, most of the posts about her are outdated and later proven to be wrong. So I had to put points that are now and have been canon since the show ended.
CONTAINS: Opinions
-
Regina Mill's personality goes easier throughout the show. From being manipulative to caring but still having that s1 spark. She expresses her caring to her old enemies, aka, The Charmings.
From the flashbacks, we see Regina adopt a child named Henry. She went from having almost full vengeance and revenge still pent up in her heart to having a mix of both love and darkness due to Henry.
-
Yes, Regina was rude to her citizens of Storybrooke. But most of what she did (in later seasons) was use sarcasm. Let's jump into her actions.
Problematic Actions:
- R4pe (Graham Specifically) for 28 years
- Manipulate Henry for years ( calling his 'theory' of fairytales fake)
- Violence (to Villages and People)
---
Let get into the r4pe part first. Of course, even as someone like a Regina stan should not excuse this behavior. Me, aka a person who likes her but doesn't excuse and will NEVER excuse her problematic actions, especially this one in particular.
Regina had raped Graham for around 28 years.
One sentence that implies it, even for a little bit, is in the episode where Graham (huntsman at the time) meets Regina for the first time. She says
"Take him to my bedchamber,"
I know it's short. But why else would someone say that. Just think about that.
And also the fact that Regina most definitely (for the curse) made Graham engage with her romantically and sexually. Even though it was obvious that he didn't like her that way in the Enchanted forest or most likely ever. Not to mention she had his heart, and in ouat logic hearts are used to control people, so when doing stuff with Regina both romantically and sexually, he was forced to because Regina gave him orders.
Now we go to Manipulating Henry.
For ten whole years, Henry has lived and grew up with Regina. He loved his mother (even though she's not his bio mom). Until Henry got the book, and Emma had revealed that Henry had a book and kept on saying everyone in town are fairytale characters that are cursed (which ofc is true). Regina, unknowing of her sons correct theory /speculation/ belief, was visibly shocked. And when she found out that Snow (Mary) had given the book to him, she didn't want that at all. And even set up Emma into saying that Henry was
'crazy' when Henry was nearby. So that she can attempt to stop him from thinking of his speculation and them bonding.
All of this was to make sure Henry couldn't connect and hate his birth mother so that she could have him as his own. And also because Henry was right, and she didn't want her son of ten years to hate her for her sins.
--
Explaining the cause of her actions. NOT JUSTIFING HER PROBLEMATIC ACTIONS, IM JUST EXPLAINING WHY SHE DID THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Justify means to show or prove to be right or reasonable.
While to explain means to be the cause of or motivating factor for an action.
I know explain has many definitions or ways to explain what it means and one means to justify. While mine means to simply explain the cause or motivation towards the action.
-
There's no doubt Cora was abusive to Regina. And before you start, there's different types of abuse. The abuse Cora does to Regina is Mental and Emotional. Maybe physical but still very debatable and unclear.
For emotional, Cora visibly and directly shows that Cora wants to control Regina. She wanted Regina to do something Regina didn't want just so Cora could have what SHE wanted. And Emotional abuse means to, "target a person's feelings, it uses emotions to manipulate, punish, and achieve control." That heavily reminds me of Cora killing Daniel to gain more control of Regina. And if you didn't already know.
And there's scenes where Cora would grab Regina forcefully with vines to STOP Regina from moving or walking away from her. Cora said in one of the scenes, "Don't you dare walk away from me!" Then proceed to grab Regina using vines from her Magic. Also, her father, Henry, said to Regina that Cora wanted control over her and if Regina continues with her evil actions, her mother had achieved to controlled her. Because, everything Cora did to Regina was calculated. Daniel's Death, The marriage, the abuse, and it was all to get Reina to become evil. In s2 i think, (the Angstiest Regina Season), Regina goes to Archie upset and with TEARS in her eyes because, she used magic, because she used magic. And she Didn't want to use magic against Henry like her mother. After she did so, she was upset because she broke her own promise to not use magic against Henry. Also because it reminded her of what her mother did to her, and she did want to pass it down for Henry.
Also Cora in s2, came Storybrooke (her daughters town) not only to reunite with Regina but to BREAK HER... like wtf. And Regina is Already upset because Henry is growing distant to her. But Cora, literally
frames her own daughter for murder. While the whole fucking town is already against her.
For Mental, theres an episode where Cora forms Regina's thoughts by saying, "Sometimes I wonder if the people actually like you". And Cora seems to have an influence in Regina's world view, of Wolf and Sheep. Regina States in the episode where she meets the huntsman (Graham).
(Got the episode part from a Tumblr poster from ouatanalysis) aka:
-
Now back to what I was saying about Cora. Cora had forced Regina into marriage. BUT as you could tell as time went on Regina had decided to use her relationship with Leopold to gain control, because that's what her mother said, about something along the lines of, "power is useful" before she sent her mother through the mirror.
And her mother sent her to a marriage with a broken old ass man who was still grieving his wife. Which lead to the neglect from Leopold to Regina. It was stated by Regina herself that Leopold would often leave Regina by herself at the castle that at points she felt like the 'Queen of Nothing'.
And for me i feel like Regina (forgive me for wording this part wrong) was considered her as a mourning tool. Like, "Oh my wife died 8 years ago, lets get another one to help with and to deal with me". Yes he may have also gotten Regina because she seemed like a good mother figure fit for Snow, but still, most likely half the woman population of Leopolds age from Leopolds kingdom would save Snow from the horse in a heartbeat if they were there and they would show genuine feelings for Leopold. However, he chooses, a woman who's 18 and lives away.
--
Not only Cora and Leopold influenced Regina's bad perspective and actions, Rumple also did too.
Rumple saw Regina as a person wanting power and wanting to stand out and not seem as weak and took the opportunity as the dark one to turn Regina evil.
Regina at first was hesitant to say that she liked using magic due to her not wanting to be like her mother and also due to her mother's actions with her, with magic.
But time happens and Regina uses more and more of magic for evil and frightens villages and kills Villagers who helped Snow in the slightest bit.
I still stan her because she changed, she's reformed and she would never do that stuff again (r4pe, use magic against Henry or manipulate him, or m4ss murd3r).
ANYWAYS, this was heavily controversial. But if your going to criticize/correct parts, be respectful and mature about it instead of wanting to start a riot. Saying "Fuck you", "Go die in a hole", "Kys", "I hope your house burns down". And be respectful, if you want to critigue/correct me at certain parts, by all means, go ahead, but tell me what parts I went wrong instead of telling me to kms.
NOTE: This is from May 2023, but I just remembered this now. And parts didn't make sense so I changed it up to make it better.

Fave Characters from Invincible (so far)
can you see me trying to use a defibrillator to add a bit of life to the main tags while we wait for S2
Anybody wanna share who their fave characters are?
It took me the whole morning to rank mine (and believe me, I was wayyy less active in fandoms on Tumblr in 2021 during S1's run so I didn't even think much about this stuff). And this is something I can usually do rather quickly for shows and media: I almost immediately know who, and why. But for Invincible? It took much longer because everyone in it lends so greatly to the tone, flavour and overarching story in their own way.
But upon evaluating which scenes, dialogue and lines I replay in my memory, and how I relate to them and resonate with them, I found myself settling on...
#1. Cecil
Tumblr media
#2. Robot
Tumblr media
#3. Mark
Tumblr media
When it comes to the honourable mentions, I couldn't narrow it down to one or even two. I settled on all four below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think all my picks have to do with how this exceedingly dangerous fictional universe (thus its very interesting relationship with raising the stakes in battles) is commentary on how cynical vs. hopeful we want to choose to be, about the worst that life can throw at us. And of course, I wanna have a dang good time watching the action sequences.
And Donald deserves his own category! RIP, Donald:
Tumblr media
Something also tells me I'm really gonna like Angstrom next season, Thula depending on how they write her for the screen, and maybe even Thragg later in S3 (he in particular is gonna be a huge challenge to write for this adaptation, compared to someone like Nolan, in order for him to be kept interesting and engaging at least for me).

So as anyone who listens to my podcast knows, I’ve been obsessed with trying to figure out if the initial S1 intro of the armies and elves gathered at the border, and indeed the smaller intro piece with Thunder that plays at the start of every episode, was ever going to be recontextualized. Previously, I’d assumed it was when the humans had killed Thunder (as that’s what the show presents) but we learn in S3 that it was just Viren and Harrow when the time came, leaving these scenes up in the air about what it all meant. And it seems, perhaps, we’re finally going to get our answer.
We see that, according to Zubeia, many of the crises (including who would head the draconic monarchy) were orchestrated by Aaravos, and that he loved to manipulate humans in particular. We know that approximately 300 years ago, Luna Tenebris mysteriously died, Queen Aditti of the Sunfire elves disappeared, and events led to Aaravos being imprisoned (namely Ezran and Harrow’s ancestor, the Orphan Queen, seemingly outing him as a traitor and liar).
We also have the shot, brightened for clarity, of the five human leaders, which in order from left to right seems to be Neolandia, Duren, Katolis, Del Bar, and Evenere. What is most curious to me is that the crown for Katolis is noticeably different, and I’ve wondered for a little while if the Orphan Queen, in addition to establishing a new line, gave a new royal crown and sigil for Katolis (uneven towers, rule of succession, the crown). And I’ve thought that way for a little while given that Ezran’s council table, clearly modelled after Sarai’s spear shape, also looks like a keyhole
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This isn’t a perfect connection, as the Orphan Queen had Aaravos’ Key in her possession (although it seems he likely crafted it himself) and that she eventually turned on him. However, as know there are likely details being kept from us, I do wonder how she managed to 1) discover the truth and 2) prove it.
All of this to say: I think Aaravos was encouraging the whole Pentarchy to attack during the power vacuum with Xadia already descending into chaos, and that’s what we see in the intro in terms of the gathered armies (although Aditti is there and not dead, so not yet, maybe?)
Tumblr media
cue the Orphan Queen stepping in and becoming queen, flat out, and perhaps Avizandum working to keep the two sides apart also being what secured his kingship. Either way, it is a delightfully tight parallel that Avizandum’s reign and Ezran / Harrow’s royal line started seemingly at the exact same time, and out of a result of the exact same conflict

Here’s my take on a batch of custom Nexo Knights minifigs !
Closeups and thoughts under the cut
So, in no particular order, the closeups, with comments and comparisons with the actual characters from the original Lego theme (also, because of Tumblr’s image limits, I had to badly stitch together my pictures, sorry-)
1) Mace
Tumblr media
Pretty cool one, and the only girl in the team in the original cast, who also happen to have troubles because her dad is the king. But eh, none of that here, so she get the cool cloak I assign to any cool red character I can find (yes, you’ll see it again many times in the future). The overall design is pretty nice (mostly this face, the other one on the brick is not as good; the printed armor, which is from season 4, is pretty nice, and does a nice job with the large dark piece (coming from later Hero Factory sets). The weapons are from the Chima theme (and so is the cloak !). The hairs are from the only Tron set, which should have been continued as whole theme but eh-
2) Axel
Tumblr media
Stupid and muscular originally. Well, now he’s got a Large Axe (Bionicle) to stand to his name. The helmet is all Nexo, but with some custom brew of mine, and so is the shield. Also, the custom arm was possible because the large chest has a technic pin.
3) Clay(more)
Tumblr media
Not room much modifications on the base character (s1). The sword is from a season four version of the character, the shield is homemade with some fun pieces I had lying around. The two arms are modified from the Ultimate set. …which I transformed in guns…Yeah.
4) Aaron
Tumblr media
Green ! Always had a cooler weapon. The armor is from the mech set, the chest piece is from s3-4, the Google’s are from the Ultimate set, and the shoulder thingy is from Boba Fett. I kept the original shield with some added pieces, which is made to fly (like with the original al character) but changed the face to give him a more serious expression. The weapon is mostly from the original crossbow, with some nice twists (the beam on the first image is from a ninjago sword).
5) Lance Whatever their name is now
Tumblr media
Really a bad character : rich, 'very pretty', egocentric. So, well…I took the armor and made an entire new one. I really like them, but it might be because it took an awful lot of time to figure out the weapon (transparent white piece similar to the green beam mentioned above). Armor-wise, it’s s1 body, with a grey pauldron (Clone Wars) and a light grey kama (…Also Clone Wars). The hairs are a really cool piece from a Ninjago set, and the head…Come from a City ski set. But the orange visor makes it work !
6) Never remembered the name of that one
Tumblr media
Original character is a very smart kid with not much development in the show. Well, firstly I made him an adult (legs are from a black widow figure), and then I decided to push the technical side a little. So, full suit with crystal swords, which works ! Most pieces are actually from the theme, except the red dots (Ninjago again), the crystals in the back (Power Mine [really a cool theme !]), and the helmet (City firefighters + Ninjago…again). It was the first one I made, which made me do the others.
I might get them in a diorama at some point, to set them against the very many custom monsters from the same theme (which were already much cooler than the original minifigs). In fact, most of the theme was really cool, the two sad points are that it was discontinued, and the TV show was…Well, it didn’t push much sci-fi nor fantasy, so I had to do the job.
Now, with that post I have finally revealed my three favorites things to do with legos : Dioramas, Big Mechs, and Custom minifigures (plus any Clone Wars related stuff, but it’s probably just as much because of the fandom aspect as it is the Lego aspect). One day perhaps, I’ll get all three of these aspects in one epic scene, but I have no idea of how for now, so maybe later~

What's your fave Stewy scene ? :)
god such a hard question. here are three favourite scenes in no particular order bc i simply cannot choose.
a) roman + stewy at the beginning of prague (s1e8). a 10/10 stewy episode but i always think of that one post that was like they just spit their line readings at each other. i want to wind them up like tops and let them loose at each other.
b) the kenstewy meeting at the end of the summer palace (s2e1). sometimes this scene feels like a turning point for me. bc stewy opens it SO willing to do this as friends. he's joking, he's easy - there's a path for kendall to take. and it feels like maybe that's worked before - kendall's ditched him for logan, they've smoothed it over with a joke and a shrug, it's all kept functioning. but kendall is SO bleak, and shell-like, and he can't do the joke, he can't keep the Bro Friendship functioning, and that's when stewy's actual anger starts to come out. and it so quickly morphs into this weird, amorphous upset - "with your face and everything, and you're saying no to all my calls?". it feels like an argument about a lifetime of their relationship and also somehow a breaking point, in that kendall is so lifeless and puppet-like he can't keep the way their frienship has functioned going. and stewy is so clearly upset and so clearly cares for ken and within the bounds of what their friendship is, within the boundaries of who they are as people, is doing what he can, and kendall is giving him nothing, and it just feels like the point when it should snap for stewy. bc from stewy's pov it's kendall failing to treat him as a real human being worthy of respect and consideration - which i think kendall has always struggled with. and from kendall's pov he can't face up to the human reality of what happened at the end of s1 and he's just shutting down.
also just such the perfect mix of this is BUSINESS and this is EMOTION at the same time and we've lost track of the boundaries between the two (also lol i suppose the inherent critique of - not much boundary between the two). even stewy is partially trying to use their friendship as a means of getting a business explanation for what happened. and mr moayed the little voice quaver on - "we had the whole world in our hands and you fucking walked man - why?" genius. bleak. brilliant. u could write like 50k from just watching that scene alone. i just rewatched it and i feel a bit ill.
c) STEWY HUGGING JOSH and kendall watching morosely out of the plane. the way it's cut together is sooo funny to me. i love adrien brody. i love to imagine him and stewy being pals. also arian really acts the shit out of that hug. the man had like 3 appearances that season and went full gas on all of them
(thank you very much for asking!! also everyone let me know what ur fave stewy scenes are :)))) )

Do you have a favourite episode of community or any thoughts on the series? I saw you reblog a post earlier about it and there aren’t a lot of opportunities to talk about one of my favourite autism shows
OH MY GOD. OKAY
i can't even pretend i'm normal about community even a little bit, it's literally seared into my brain and is a permanent part of my personality. my sister @inalienable-wright and i are working on ranking all 110 episodes (she literally coded a program so that instead of having to work with every episode, it presents us with two at a time and we just pick which one's better, it's really fucking cool)
the question of a Favorite Episode is really complicated to me, because i could think of at least fifteen off the top of my head that make me about the same amount of Deliriously Happy so here are some, in no particular order:
2x21 Paradigms of Human Memory
3x19 Curriculum Unavailable
3x04 Remedial Chaos Theory (duh)
3x05 Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Steps
2x14 Advanced Dungeons & Dragons
2x08 Cooperative Calligraphy
1x10 Comparative Religion
1x19 Beginner Pottery
2x06 Epidemiology
2x15 Early 21st Century Romanticism
3x01 Biology 101
2x01 Anthropology 101
3x07 Studies in Modern Movement
1x17 Physical Education
1x07 Introduction to Statistics
6x01 Ladders
rambling thoughts about the series as a whole under the cut:
As you can see i obviously like seasons 1-3 more, and honestly if i kept listing favorite episodes from those seasons it would go on and on, because s2 and s3 esp are just ALL-STAR seasons (with a few exceptions, obvs. 2x18 and 2x20 come to mind for instant skips)
that being said, i liked seasons 4-6 fine. s4 isn't necessarily the level of absolute dogshit everyone says, but it was indeed bland compared to the vivid colorful witty hijinks of s1-3. it's hard to pinpoint because you're mostly noticing the ABSENCE of something; most of the actual episodes aren't Bad, but they just don't compare to the seasons before.
season 5 has a lot of good material that i can't rewatch Or i will literally fucking die. G.I. Jeff is a fucking masterpiece imo, geothermal goes without saying, Advanced Advanced DnD & the meowmeowbeenz episode were both funny as fuck, the ass crack bandit ep was gold, and most of the other episodes are solid. it's just Sad. there's just an incredibly melancholy and depressing tinge to the entire season and it makes me fucking SAD
season 6 i found very fun because i love frankie and elroy, but most of the episodes are too goddamn tragic to even rewatch just because it just feels hollow. there are some very funny parts of the season! but overall, it felt like they were trying to cram in the usual amount of hijinks, when really they only had 13 episodes to give these characters a satisfying send-off, and it ends up just leaving jeff and britta in particular at a STARTLINGLY low point to close out the entire series. i watched 6x13 at about 4am the morning before an exam and i cried so hard i started dry heaving to be honest
the only way i can watch the first three seasons is by pretending everything after the s3 finale straight-up Doesn't exist. i believe that the showrunners did (mostly) the best they could with the string of production disaster after production disaster post-season 3, but the ending is simply So fucking tragic.
our beautiful codependent insane found family that we've spent 3 seasons watching become closer and care for each other and get into trouble together just slowly, painfully gets picked off one by one. it's not even a clean break it's an Agonizing decay. i have to try very hard not to let it sour the rest of the series for me.
This is why we write fanfiction though! (i do wish there was more content focused on the study group as a whole rather than just trobed, but such is life) you should definitely DEFINITELY check out my sister's writing here because her community fic is fantastic
overall i think this show is one of the best ever made & i literally cannot express in words Just how close it is to my soul. it is inside my heart. it is literally part of me (im normal)
PLEASE HIT ME UP TO TALK ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'll run forever if i have to!
an independent, selective rp account for vash the stampede (trigun stampede) by melee
Current Status: active
name: melee, some know me as kaz pronouns: they/them age: 29
muse nickname: canary (if you are referring to my vash in particular, you can use this name instead of saying "melee's vash")
rules: -18+ only. no minors. -my vash's main verse (and appearance) is post-stampede s1 with early trimax inspiration. some interactions/threads may occur pre-stampede or during stampede, but the stampede timeline is a constant. -doubles okay and encouraged. -n/s/f/w sometimes and only with 21+ muns. will be properly tagged and placed under a read more when intense. -rp style: multiparagraph preferred with small text. i've been moving away from using icons as my muse develops and takes its own image, but don't let that intimidate you from using icons yourself! -oc rp is friend only and very selective. -if you are a multifandom multimuse i likely will not follow back unless you're serious about plotting threads and keeping them going. i prefer to keep my dash trigun and friends' threads only. i also don't enjoy short, shallow interactions without any development. sorry. -if you run both a trigun character rp blog and a character from another media, we can talk about crossover interactions after we get to know each other. i do not want to do research in order to rp with you, otherwise it is too difficult to write. the same rule applies to extreme canon divergence/aus. i dont mind joining them after we know each other, but again, don't expect me to research everything unless i explicitly tell you i will. -not interested in drama. -shipping is by discussion only. flirtation is fine, but if we're shipping, we gotta be friends. -multiship and polygun friendly. each rp partner will get their own 'verse.' this allows us to best develop our muses and plot stuff together. i dont mind combining these personal verses with others though (for instance, we are a vash and wolfwood, but we want to add a meryl. that kind of thing) -this blog is not k/v / plantc*st / plant wo*d friendly. do not expect me to follow you back if you are interested in the ship. i will not start drama about this decision, and it is non-negotiable. -will tag common triggers not present in trigun. blood, violence, and alcohol will not be tagged. i try to read bios for personal triggers, but please let me know if it's extremely serious/common/i mess up. -lastly, i am very patient. i do not mind if you take a long time to reply. don't feel pressured if you haven't replied to something in a long time, but if possible i would like it if you kept in touch. i likely will not ever hassle you for replies out of courtesy.
m!a status: open anons: open random starters: open
threads preferred, but short interactions will happen.
Please read my full About and Rules pages before following. I'm pretty open, but I do have some basic things.
I have an RP wishlist if you're not sure where to start with me; feel free to ask me about any of it or send an ask with a starter!
I will provide my discord via request.

might be a bit of a silly ask, but.... in a few csi meta posts youve mentioned the in-universe dates for a few episodes? (like, an episode taking place on feb 12th 2007, as a random example) I was wondering how you knew this?
(Might be an obvious answer but oh well! Love your csi metas <3)
hi, anon!
not a silly ask at all!
dating csi episodes in-universe is, admittedly, an inexact science.
firstly, not all csi episodes include specific in-universe dates, particularly early on.
s1 is an absolute wasteland of chronology.
secondly, while sometimes the show's in-universe dates for its episodes are identical to its out-of-universe airdates (for example, episode 03x19 "a night at the movies" both takes place in-universe and aired out-of-universe on 04.10.03), such is not always necessarily the case, and often there are significant discrepancies between the show's internal and external timelines (such as is the case, for example, with episode 08x01 "dead doll," which in-universe takes place on 05.18.07 but aired out-of-universe on 09.27.07).
also, admittedly, there are some instances where the internal and external timelines of the show simply cannot be reconciled, as episodes aired out of order from their in-universe dates—such as is the case in s4, when episode 04x13 "suckers" chronologically takes place in-universe on 02.04.04, which is after the events episode 04x14 "paper or plastic?", which take place in-universe on 01.16.04.
so.
all of the above said:
my in-universe dates typically derive from dialogue mentions (like when a character says "the victim came back to town on the 18th"); documents (such as evidence photos, evidence tags, lab reports, newspapers, calendars, postmarks, etc.); timestamps on security footage, text messages, and emails; references to in-universe time markers (like grissom's birthday); and—more rarely—references to real-world events (like particular nfl games). i collected them slowly over successive rewatches of the show and kept track of them on a master timeline.
because csi is not always internally consistent about its timeline even within the course of a single episode—for example, episode 07x04 "fannysmackin'" shows different dates on both evidence tags and text messages that supposedly represent the same day—i sometimes used the timeline itself to sort through discrepancies.
in the aforementioned case, while the evidence tags point to an october date and the text messages point to a september one, the episode has to take place in october because the episodes immediately preceding and following it do; i.e., the evidence tag date fits whereas the text message date doesn't.
at this point, i would say i probably have concrete in-universe dates for about 70% of the episodes in s1-s9 and can ballpark another 20% or so based on timeline fit (i.e., tell you the month and give you a window of a few days or weeks when the episode's events are likely to have taken place).
thanks for the question! please feel welcome to send another any time.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 🧡
Omg thank you! ❤️ What a nice ask. Hmmm….in no particular order:
1. let it be: This is a fic for the Fear Street trilogy centered on the Berman sisters. Cindy’s ghost visits adult Ziggy in her dreams to give her closure. This fic was super cathartic for me to write because, as some people already know, I unexpectedly lost my brother a couple years ago and know what it’s like to grieve a sibling. So I projected on Ziggy a lot in it. It’s far from being a happy fic but it has a hopeful vibe at the end.
2. not all heroes wear capes: A Gallavich fic I wrote for the Shameless Big Bang years back. I’m not going to say too much because I’ve heard from some people that it kept them guessing and I think that’s great. I will say that it’s a “superhero” fic (using the term loosely for reasons) set after S3. And not to toot my own horn but re-reading it made me realize I really nailed Ian and Mickey’s conversations in the early chapters.
3. Engulfed: A Villaneve fic I wrote after falling in love with S1 and before S2 aired. Eve kills someone for the first time and calls Villanelle to help her get rid of the body. Due to when it was written, Eve and Villanelle’s relationship may come off as a bit darker than a lot of fics portray them now. But it was written back when I still truly loved the show lol so a lot of love went into it.
4. nothing on you, baby: A Villaneve fic set post S4 where Villanelle is still very much alive and isn’t over the Eve and Helene thing (humorously). Way more on the lighter side than “Engulfed” and filled with domestic vibes.
5. medusa: Fluffy post canon Gallavich fic where Ian and Mickey become cat dads. Nothing much to it. Tw: for past animal death and canonical child abuse though.

WHAT DID I WATCH: #26
I watched Love In The Air, made commentary post out of it, and at the last minute decided to delete it because I don't think it deserved to get out there. I consider myself as a rude person but that kind of post will solidify me as the evilest person on earth.
All I can say is that wow I've got so many rants about this. I mean this is downright bad. Not in any campy way, but morally bad way. I want to defend this because there were some parts that just good (ahem, Sky, ahem). But, how could I defend something which challenged me to confront certain stuff. Especially, of how we define rape and consent.
I've been in abusive, gaslighting, victim-blaming kind of relationship. Watching Love in The Air has been an exhausting experience. Not only because it reminded me of some of the bad times that I've had, but also how ridiculous this kind of relationship got resolved in the series.
But then again who the hell am I? I don't even know Mame and why she kept writing this kind of story. I do feel a little bit pity towards her. Is something going on with her personal life and resulting in this form of entertainment?
And the sound mixing is just downright bad. Like I can't comprehend what the hell is going on in the post-production. Probably Mame and her team threw whatever they could salvage from the shoot. I tried so hard to shut my brain off but then nah, it still felt dumb.
In order for me to enjoy this series, I had to throw all of the moral guides I've been taught on. But, we as human, if we lost our principal that means we already cost our humanity and I don't want that. I don't want to be a not-human.
The only thing that I could appreciate from Mame.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, been spending time to watch Big Dragon which is nice surprise in the sea of toxic relationship that get represented on TV. It was nice to see just a jerk meeting jerk. And that's Mame wouldn't understand. I'm not trying to justify rape but at least if you want to include rape into your scene, do it to the equally bad people. God, I think I'm not going to forget Mame's mistakes, am I?
Perhaps one of the strengths of this little pulpy series that rarely got mentioned is how beautiful sometimes dialogues flow between characters. It's so true to the characters and it felt real, not some made-up wattpad-y type of dialogue. Because the very reason why some of adaptations from Y-novel felt flat to me, is they just copied whatever on the paper and not trying to make it believable in today's world.
One of the best dialogue is happened on this very scene. Kinda wish it took a little bit effort from the actors but yeah...
Tumblr media
Then, I've been trying to get through episode 6 of Ghost Host Ghost House. (weird choice of title, by the way). Strangely, after the talked about episode 4, it kinda bummed out a bit. I mean, I don't really like watching it for no particular reason. In other language, yes it is boring. For me, it was too fast in pacing. But yeah whatever happened on episode 4, was convinced me to continuing this.
AND LASTLY, THE ONE THAT HAS BEEN INVESTED INTO MY BRAIN LATELY IS...
Tumblr media
what the hell, season 2, what the hell.
to me personally, this way better than S1 because its pacing and the acting. oh my god, edvinnnnn!!!!!! my sonnnnnn!!!!!
maybe because i'm so biased to exes-to-lovers kind of trope, that's why i'm so glad. knowing on fiction your gloomy love story could end up having a different outcome if everyone willingly to just fight. not just yourself. story of my life.
it takes losing one another to find each other.
bismillah mantan hayuk.

Hi! I don't think this is really gonna be a proper question, I've just got Iruma on the brain rn and my favourite part of it is the characters. I just love (nearly all) of them sm. Is it ok if I rant abt them? You can just ignore this ask I don't want to be a bother adlfslfwnkffhd
My top 3 in no particular order are Kalego, Opera and Purson. Everytime I see them I just get excited I love them sm. Kalego's got probably my favourite design out of everyone, I love how cool he is, I love how he treats the Misfits harshly but he does actually care about them and wants them to succeed. (When I was watching the episodes I somehow skipped on the one where he visits all the student's houses. I didn't notice until I finished S3 aha)
Opera is also really cool. I love that even though Kalego acts tough all the time he's kind of scared of Opera. (that whole thing was a lot clearer after I watched the skipped episode jhljkdsbgk). Not sure how else to put into words how much I love them atm but I do. They're great. Just got to the bit in the manga where they're a teacher at Babyls and teaches the misfits non-verbal magic.
And Purson, I liked him before I even read his story. Only really started to notice him in the intro of S2, but didn't pick up on every time he was on screen. I rewatched a bunch of clips now and it's fun seeing him in the background. I relate to Purson so much it's agh. I always was quiet in my class and rarely anyone interacted with me or noticed me. I liked that most of the time, but there were times I wanted to be noticed for what I can do, but at the same time I don't want the spotlight directly at me. Also Purson being really quiet all the time then when talked to he just talks a lot about so many different things at once is just me. I was so mad when that evil demon guy popped both of his balloons in the heartbreaker arc he was working so hard I so wanted him to get through aslnsdfdfsg
I know you've posted a lot about a lot of different characters, but who'd you say are your top favourites? or does that change a lot?
rambling is always welcome here !!! especially if it's abt mairuma. make urself at home
I love the characters sm too, especially the misfits. (on the topic of the kalego visiting the misfits' homes episode, everytime I think abt that episode I rmr how allocer's scene was the ONLY ONE that had NO dialogue. it was just a still frame sliding across the screen. fml)
opera is a pretty popular character, I mostly appreciate them for their nyanbinary catperson swag, and how sweet their found family relationship w/ sully and iruma is.
I think I picked up on purson's existence early on in s1 (it's funny to re-watch and spot him in the crowd). he's a favorite of mine too. though actually I think most ppl in the fandom love purson and the music festival arc. like everybody unanimously agrees that it's the best arc hghjhughj side note abt purson but this mf is the most not-nonbinary nonbinary character I've ever seen I s2g I kept almost accidentally they/them'ing him sooo much when I joined the fandom a while back like he just does not register to me as a boy. the no biney vibes r just off the charts
ngl I barely rmr shit from the heartbreaker bc I read most of it over a year ago while those chapters were still coming out, the most I rmr is jazz being tortured on the cross (what does nishi fucking have against him to make him suffer so much THE OTHER CHARACTERS DON'T GO THRU NEARLY AS MUCH SHIT AS HE DOES) and then winning bc of allocer and not even getting a rank up for the LITERAL TORTURE he went through. like r you fucking kidding me what the fuck was the point of all that then ?????? fucking rigged
I was so sad for purson too aghhh he tried so hard my boy did his best but he got fucked over by atori >:((
as for which characters r my favorites, I think it's pretty easy to tell just from looking at my acc but robin and jazzy r my top tier faves lmao. though funnily enough neither of them were immediately my favorites. it kinda happened over time after I finished the anime (which only had 2 seasons at the time) and the manga. robin I never paid much attention to until he suddenly took over my heart but jazz was always a character I was fond of just because of how similar he is to me JHGFHJNGF
but my faves have changed around quite a lot since I've gotten into mairuma. my first fave ever was actually kiriwo, which maybe is a bit surprising considering I never post about him and I've never drawn him either (though I plan to), he's what made me fall in LOVE w/ mairuma when I first watched it. fucking love a little guy who is fucked up beyond repair. then later my #1 fave shifted to iruma, then robin followed closely by jazz, and now robin and jazz r about equal (though I am kind of hyperfixating on jazz atm so I've been posting more abt him and drawing him more often)
other characters I adore include:
kalego, for completely heterosexual reasons
lied. I used to dislike him (I hate his pervy jokes, though he's not nearly as bad as kamui) until I watched s3 of the anime and it singlehandedly changed my opinion on him, even though it was all content that I had already read in the manga, I just think the anime did the scenes better. now I'm a lied stan
allocer. a character I completely ignored for like a year UNTIL I watched his sukima from his episode w/ jazz in season 3. like seriously before that point I couldn't even rmr his name consistently, but then I watched that sukima that converted me into a jazzllocer shipper and he slowly grew on me as a result. but the REAL turning point was when I sat down one day and went "okay, I want to write jazzllocer fanfiction, but it's really fucking hard when it's so difficult to get a grasp on allocer's character. he barely has any scenes focused on him, he's missing for an entire major arc and we know absolutely nothing of his backstory. I'm gonna analyze the few scenes he's in very carefully and then come up with my own hcs to make up for what he lacks in canon." after that there was just no going back. allocer is practically my oc now bc of how much shit I've made up about him in the past month or so. also, nishi, allocer arc when ??????? I'm waiting bruh when will my boy get the focus and fleshing out he deserves
furfur. again … for het reasons. I just really like characters that r absolute bastards HGFGHGFGH
among others, but really I like most of them. I'm also fond of dali (similar to furfur he's kind of a little shit. imagine being the most important teacher at babyls and u never fucking do anything), kerori and gyari (lesbians frfr), sabro (autistic king), etc.

Finished s1 of my rewatch! Let's talk character arcs because, yes, Supernatural does have them.
Let's go with Sam first. His entire arc this season was not becoming his father, while being able to acknowledge and appreciate who his father was. What does that mean?
John was a man who lost himself in revenge. Nothing mattered as much as killing the demon that killed Mary. Not even his children. Sam spends s1 being kept from falling into that same hole and as a result understanding how his dad did fall into the hole. As is pointed out many times in s1 Sam and John are a lot alike.
We see as early as 01x02 that Sam is wholly focused on revenge. Once he determines that John isn't at the location of the coordinates he advocates leaving. Something he later does in Asylum and Scarecrow as well. In Dead in the Water he's ready to leave town when they're told to without verifying that the ghost has been dealt with. Because Sam has to be reminded many times that while the end goal is finding the thing that killed Jess, it's a marathon not a race. They shouldn't just leave people to die to focus on their goals.
Scarecrow sets this up in one of the best ways. Because we see Sam split off to go and try to find John. Then we see Dean interacting with the couple that would've died if Dean had gone with Sam. Who Dean then tells Sam about in a phone call later. It's important to note that Dean does not take this opportunity to tell Sam he should've stayed and helped Dean on the case. Sam is then later shown the face of the person who would've died (in addition to Dean) if he hadn't been there. Seeing these people as real and not just a possibility is important to Sam's growth.
We are then given several arguments in Salvation and Devil's Trap between Sam and Dean about whether or not dying for revenge is worth it. Sam thinks it is and Dean doesn't. This is an ongoing conflict over the two episodes that cumulates in the scene where Sam has to choose between killing the demon and their father or letting the demon go and saving their father. He chooses to save their John and to pick the path of life over revenge. There are things more important then getting revenge.
(I am so excited to examine how this particular arc goes over the next 4 seasons specifically. Because we know Sam doesn't stay with this mindset and I think 02x01 is a big factor there.)
Dean's character arc is less front and center, but no less important. And it's basically learning to stand up to John. We're told and shown again and again over the course of s1 that Dean does not argue with John and that he follows all of his orders without question. Something that causes a lot of friction between him and Sam. They have multiple arguments about it, most notably Asylum and Scarecrow.
We're also shown the cracks in that facade. Dean doesn't always agree with John and he's not perfectly happy being the good little soldier. It's the role he played in order to keep his family together and s1 is Dean trying to make it work again. We're also shown the flashback in Something Wicked in which Dean doesn't follow John's orders to the letter and Sam almost dies. Say what you will, that's how Dean views the incident and John did nothing to dissuade him from that belief.
(Even without everything else we learn about their childhood that right there is enough of a foundational trauma event to explain why Dean follows orders without complaint or question.)
Over the course of the season we see Sam and Dean's relationship strengthen to a point where Dean can feel secure in it without their dad being there. He can trust that his relationship with Sam is separate from either of their relationships with John. Which gives him the ability to stand up to John, both in the phone calls conversation and in ignoring his orders at the end of Dead Man's Blood. Because Dean knows that even if things go bad with John he's not going to lose Sam. He can trust that Sam can take care of himself and that they will remain brothers regardless.
And onto season 2!
