Man, I cannot stop thinking about Chalothorn coming to save Tharn and listening to Tharn when he asked to not kill Montree (and u know it's serious cuz i'm using his actual name)

Like that is when Tharn understood what he had to do to break the curse isn't it? Like this is when he went from grieving having to leave and accepting it because he knew what he was going to do while he was gone and he didn't know if it was going to work but he was going to try like this is a man with determination right there, like he isn't only looking at Montee he also has a goal in mind

and I feel like talking about this process Tharn went through but also just going through the trio's "character descriptions" as in Chalothorn being a fighter (maybe not talk about Chalothorn in this specific post I want to give him a whole post for himself), Wansarut/Tharn being an healer/protector (mediator?) and Sakuna/Phaya being a fighter (somewhat a little bit of a protector Wansarut/Tharn kinda rubbed off of them akasghjsgajhad like literally) and also just talk about power levels and who would match who in a fight and how that affected Tharn's decision or something idk we will see

Disclaimer : pulling all of this completely out of my ass from watching the show but it makes sense to me, might not make sense to anybody else cuz these are just raw out-of-order thoughts

I think I'll put everything under a keep reading cuz I know We about to spend an hour on this cuz this is taking too much space in my brain and I got school assignments to do so we just gonna throw it up right now

WANSARUT

Let's start with the fact that Wansarut is a healer/protector (and a mediator of some sort maybe? idk) like from the get go you got Wansarut saving Sakuna and healing him, simply because Sakuna was still alive (ep 8)

Like they are enemies at that point??? and what if Sakuna decided to kill Wansarut when he got better? And you can see that Sakuna does not understand Wansarut's actions cuz like they are enemies! That is a big risk Wansarut took simply because he was still alive, because it's not in Wansarut's nature to just sit there and watch someone die, whether they are from the enemy side or not, and Wansarut tells Sakuna to leave as soon as he feels better too, because Sakuna is clearly in Naga territory and it's dangerous for him there, and Wansarut didn't ask anything in return until Sakuna proposed it, and what Wansarut asks is just so goddamn UUUGHHHRBSGUYAHFG [tv static noise]

I literally do not know how to describe it but like Wansarut has an entire Garuda that is the literal Garuda king's brother saying he will give Wansarut anything as a favor because Wansarut saved him and Wansarut asks for peace between their people??? That's why I was like Wansarut is kinda a mediator, also later Wansarut says this

Really showing even if Wansarut would be happy with Sakuna, this situationship they got going on, Sakuna's presence in these woods, could make the war both of their people are living worst, and Wansarut do not want to cause harm, it would go against Wansarut's healer/protector nature

Also random sidenote : the way Wansarut talks the human world and about that Naga legend of a Naga turned human that wanted to be a Monk, is such a benevolent and loving god way of talking, also the fact that Wansarut is showing this whole part of Naga culture (Naga offering and breathing fire to pay respect to Buddha, on the 15th nigh of the 11th waxing moon) to Sakuna an outsider??? a literal enemy of Wansarut's people???? mind fucking blowing if you ask me

THARN

Ok enough about boyprincess time to talk about babygirl Tharn and how Wansarut's healer/protector (mediator) nature translated to him

Let me start with the fact that Tharn almost never attacks anyone first, and is always ready to put his gun down, and literally never shoot if he doesn't have to, let's just take a look at how fast he put his gun down in ep 12 and the fact that he didn't just shoot Montee goon in the back which gave him the time to disarm Tharn

Also when he could have literally shoot Narong possessed by Chalothorn back in episode 5, the coast was clear Phaya was out of the way and Narong was attacking Phaya so he had "reasonable" reason to just shoot the guy, like hell they even made eye contact and Narong (Chalothorn) just fully ignored him cuz he knew Tharn was not gonna shoot and Tharn really just didn't shoot

And don't get me started on the fact that Tharn took that stab for Phaya i'll be here till next year like!!! All that was in his mind was protecting Phaya and if he get hurt doing it so be it, which is literally exactly what his past self did, they will protect what they love, whatever the cost

Like it almost doesn't make sense that Tharn is a cop in this lifetime because of his healer/protector nature, if they still were making him a first responder, it would have made more sense if Tharn was a paramedic or something, but because his parents were killed it and he had to get justice for them he was knocked off the typical healer/protector path slightly, but he was still doing his cop job like he was a healer/protector (which is what cops should be tbh. but that's another discussion), like i wouldn't be surprised if Tharn's other reincarnations were in the medical field in some ways (but again how do you tell this story if they aren't in the same field of work? that's another problem innit)

SAKUNA

Unfortunately I gotta stop talking about babygirl Tharn and talk about our resident bird

Sakuna is fighter first and foremost like there is no questioning that, but I think he is a level lower than Chalothorn, like Sakuna is a high ranking soldier, probably his brother's right hand man but both time Sakuna tried to fight Chalothorn he lost, first time he was hurt very badly and Wansarut had to heal him, second time cost him and Wansarut's life and that's how the cycle started

And it honestly doesn't look like he match Chalothorn's powers even in garuda form, I think the garuda that would match Chalothorn would be Sakuna's brother (ep 12), unfortunately Sakuna would never get to a level where he could win since he died, and just keep dying every reincarnation after that, and I assume he just keep dying before he reach his full powers

But anyways by the end of Sakuna's life he wasn't only a fighter, you can see he genuinely was worried and wanted to protect Wansarut and he didn't care for his brother's war all that much, he did fight but that was to prove his love

And that's kinda beautiful isn't it? that's the effect Wansarut has on people Wansarut is close to and that's honestly the most powerful talent, like more powerful than the actual magic Wansarut can do

PHAYA

Phaya bird man extraodinaire is yet again a fighter (soldier) in this life, quite literally in the investigation team, but you can see that he has leadership qualities real early on (ep 2)

He is honestly a natural leader and I'm sure Sakuna was too, but on the powers side, his garuda powers like dormant/just under the surface this whole series, the best we get are little sparkles (ep 5 + ep 12)

His best qualities : his sparkles

Sidenote : let me just mention how protective Phaya is of Tharn, guy put his whole body over Tharn when there is a blast near, he is always in front of Tharn when they are fighting, not just episode 12 but simply all the time, like both time we saw his sparkles were related to protecting Tharn in some ways, like this man has a very fighter way of being a protector

But anyways my little birdy you are doing amazing tweety and I love you, but like how is he supposed to fight this fucking thing with goddamn garuda sparkles????????????

Well the answer can only be that he was never supposed to fight it. Like let's think about this for a sec, every goddamn reincarnation before phayatharn died why do you think? well idk but I can at least say for certain Sakuna and Wansarut died because Sakuna chose to fight. Literally every goddamn time this shit has always gone down south and we can assume it is because they fought Chalothorn. Fighting was literally NEVER the answer, but they kept doing it and honestly isn't insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results???? They've tried Sakuna and Chalothorn's way and the only thing it got them, is them both killed in all their past reincarnations and Chalothorn being honestly one reincarnation kill away from turning into a Naga forever

Also like sidenote : there is no sign of Tharn's Naga form, like what we got from Tharn are some somewhat powerful sparkles but you can't seriously tell me he can fight Chalothorn literal king of Nagas with that, like the sparkles were only there to protect Phaya, Tharn/Wansarut were never meant to be fighters (ep 5), like even with Phaya and Tharn's powers combined it wouldn't work tbh

Problem is, this whole situation with Tharn's parents dying and people Tharn love dying did make Tharn forget who he was, so much suffering and hurt and grief from a young age can change a soul, Tharn was looking for justice for his parents and frankly was kinda impulsive and reckless about it, and thats why the abbott's role in this show was so goddamn important, he was here to remind Tharn of who he is (the lion king simba and mufasa style REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE), and that is a healer, a protector and a mediator first and foremost, he even said this in episode 3 and he is right Kindness is Tharn's biggest weapon (and Phaya's btw because Sakuna's soul has changed a lot over the courses of reincarnations and he is such a sweetie, that is until Chalothorn walks into the room)

FINAL

bro where was I even going with this? Idk but back to Chalothorn listening to Tharn in episode 12, I think that's when Tharn got a declic as to what the abbott meant by all of his mediation and precepts stuff, Tharn understood then that first of all Chalothorn is not only a killer, the person he has known all these years that cares about him and his wellbeing is there, he literally came to Tharn's rescue twice, in ep 11 when Tharn was falling off the cliff and with Montee in episode 12, the problem is you cannot talk calmly to Chalothorn with Phaya in the room, it's just never going to end well, you put those 2 head strong (mostly) fighters in a room and all hell break lose and people literally die

So Tharn knew he had to leave, but this time, in contrary to the end of episode 11, he had a purpose, the purpose was to change Chalothorn's mind from the inside, because Chalothorn's has show signs of caring and kindness (again he probably got that from hanging out with Tharn tbh), but Tharn didn't know if that would work, he didn't know if he was going to be able to come back to Phaya, and that's why he was saying goodbye like that

That's why it felt like, contrary to episode 11, this goodbye from Tharn had an air of acceptance of his fate, because he knew it was his time to go and fight for his and Phaya's love, but this time he was going to do it his way, and that way is with kindness, love and empathy, like the healer/protector that he is

star trek update time. last night* we watched tng's "attached" and ds9's "necessary evil." *i am typing this at fuck o clock it will go up when im at work

ok, the premise of this is basically every spirk fic ever, right...? "ooh, we accidentally have a telepathic connection and our feelings are revealed"

to get this out of the way, i like how much worf e riker e deanna was in the b-plot of this, even just circumstantially (i missed data though). i also think riker finally getting fed up with the aliens and giving them shit was really funny. riker is never mean to ANYBODY. i'm also glad he was relatively chill about picard being missing for once lol. like, in NO way were these assholes ready to enter the federation. not to agree with picard, but PART of a world can't enter. if you haven't mastered world peace you can't sit with us etc etc. not that i'm fully buying the propaganda of the federation as the ultimate good or that earth does somehow have world peace but whatever. even i know these guys weren't ready. what a fucking joke

frankly stunned this didn't lead to discussion about the affair baby wesley crusher. yes i know picard said he would never act on it. i don't care about that. i KNOW these people have had an affair baby. they're the type. he would knock her up and leave her high and dry. it's the kind of man he is. don't tell me there's no affair baby. i know what i know. there IS an affair baby!! i will die on this hill

actually, even though i dislike picard, i think sir patrick stewart is a v talented actor and i DO like him. i also really like beverly, so they managed to be charming a couple of times in this episode, mostly when they had a thought we couldn't hear and then started snickering about it

that said, i have no respect at all for jean-luc. the campfire conversation sucked. beverly was DEEPLY flattered and also in a little bit of a vulnerable position and he WAS LYING when he said he didn't feel that way anymore bc he tried to hit her up at the end of the episode. a man would have HELD HER, jean-luc. i would have held her. beverly crusher i would treat you so much better

this is insane bc i don't even have a crush on beverly. like genuinely. i only talk like this about sophie devereaux and brit marling characters. i just think it's outrageous her man doesn't treat her better. i almost had a fit when it came out he didn't like the breakfasts until beverly responded in kind also lol her saying croissant w the french accent

them getting sick when they split up was really funny. jean-luc, time to ruthlessly experience morning sickness. this is how it was after you left her high and dry post affair baby conception

the bait and switch at the end fucking killed me i love beverly making him ask and then turning him down GOOD FOR HER but i have no idea what motivated the entire thing. like, was the goal to get them together before the series ended? ok, why keep them apart? why show her pushing him through to safety at the expense of her own if she was gonna turn him down? why was she giving dtf vibes there at the end? like i was YELLING at him to go to her and then he did and she was like "actually nah." which was FUNNY and again good for her but what the fuck? i thought she wanted him. i just want her to be happy.

necessary evil (ds9):

OHHHHHHH MYYYYYY GODDDDDDD

i knew going in that this was an odo episode but AN ODO AND KIRA EPISODE??? swoon. oh my god she was the first person to give him his little constable nickname. HURL. KILL MEEEEE

actually, odo/kira and odo/quark people were BOTH getting fed during this ep. odo like yeah idc about quark but im gonna solve this murder case w extreme prejudice. i like both so i had a great time

every single mention of odo's dehumanization in the past makes me HOMICIDAL please treat him really niceys. i would kind of like to know what the cardassian neck trick is though. just not from odo

"i dont drink" fuckin hilarious. i think odo should shapeshift himself a digestive system so he can try food. um one that can digest stuff in 16 hours i guess or it would all just fall out when he gooped again. we tossed around the idea of chewing gum, since you just spit that back out eventually. but does he even have tastebuds, or just the approximation of them? his other senses seem to work ok........

the window in this acted SO sketchy like she was fake crying at her third dead husbands funeral after she just inherited a zillion dollars but she literally was innocent. she pointed at kira and was like girl she did it and we're like NO kira's innocent! and then kira is literally not innocent but shady sketchy widow is. incredible

kira with long hair my beloved. i would hate it if she had long hair in present day but it's perfect for past kira

ds9 looks SO BAD in the past. to have children running around and playing in it now is insane. you can really feel the difference between the cardassian occupation and Now so well in this episode, it's as striking to us as it would be to kira and odo

ohhh my god kira and odo. "will you ever trust me again" he's not even mad she killed that guy just mad that she lied about it. AUGHGHGHG

but when kira did something shady it was for a good cause. when odo was being shady he was indirectly working for the fucking cardassians. "choose a side" so true but he eventually chose kira's <3

i love deeply that he didn't try to fuck her. like it genuinely didn't even occur to him. ace king.

40s mystery style of this was so fun. odo narration is so funny bc like he doesnt wanna do it and his log is just one sentence bc he thinks its fucking stupid and then by the end of the ep hes like man am i supposed to be usign this thing as a diary?? girl dont worry about it james t kirk did the same fucking thing

final note: rom in this episode was amazing. i've never really given him more than a passing thought before this but him secretly being a fucking amazing thief was truly fantastic. sisko and odo good cop bad copping him was really funny too especially when you remember his son and sisko's son are besties. i would still rank the ferengi as my least favorite ds9 characters but i was pleasantly surprised with how often i laughed

TONIGHT: tng's "forces of nature" which sounds like. its gonna make me mad lol

What absolutely kills me about Ed after Izzy’s rejection (gif by @captain-flint here x):

is that he doesn’t look angry anymore. He looks shattered. Stunned by grief. And I know that look. It’s the drop off the high after coming out, after seeing and loving yourself. It happens the first time your joy earns disgust. The first time the life you realize you want gets spat on by the world you’re in.

Before he was all relief. He was bright again, he was tidying up, he was open-faced and smiling. And it wasn’t because he’d found hope of Stede returning. It was because he’d found himself. We meet him in ep 1 introducing himself secretly to Stede as Ed — the one man besides Izzy he wants to know him by that name. The madman on the lovely ship who doesn’t fear him. We’ve reached now in ep 10 the point where he’s asked the whole crew to call him Edward. He knows himself now, and he wants them to know him too, not just as a myth but as a man who could lead them kindly, who could wear bright things, who could speak from the heart.

In ep 1 he’s been adoring Stede’s beautiful ship, Stede’s lovely things; in ep 10 he owns them. Ep 1 he’d been privately yearning over Stede’s clothes, in ep 10 he’s on deck in pink velvet. Ep 1 he’d told Stede he was exhausted by piracy, treading water waiting to drown; in ep 10 he tells the whole crew he’d rather explore their other talents than go on being pirates. In the beginning of ep 10 he has everything he’d wanted. He’s found what he was missing.

And then Izzy comes in and shames him for it, tells him he’s bringing death on himself by his softness. Tells him Ed isn’t wanted, like he’s been saying all along. But this time Ed hears him, because now he knows who Ed can be. Izzy had scoffed at Ed’s fascination with Stede’s ship, had said if he couldn’t drop it and plan they’d die. He hates Ed in the clothes he’d loved; calls Ed a namby-pamby (f*g) in a silk gown who should have been killed. He’d scorned Ed for his exhaustion with piracy, told him he’d better forget retiring, get it through his head there was no escape other than death. And now he’s reinforced that by reminding Ed he brought in the English on him once, and he can do it again. Izzy isn’t wrong: the world they’re in isn’t good to men like Ed. But he isn’t going to help him escape it, create a new world, like Stede had tried to do, like Ed wants to. He’s going to drive him back into Blackbeard, or kill him trying.

He’s letting Ed know he can choose everything he wants, but only at the cost of everything that had protected him. Everything he’d relied on: his reputation, his first mate’s loyalty, the protection of the pirates’ code, the payoff of the horrible things he’s done to rise to a position where violence isn’t done to him. If he gains what he wants, he loses all of that. He opens himself up to all kinds of hurt.

And most of us have had that moment. First the revelation of seeing someone being the person we’re meant to be; openly, joyously queer. Then the secret exploration of it. The realization that the relief it brings makes us feel life is sweet again. The discovery that even without our first love (we rarely keep those) there’s a queer world out there ready to receive us. The tentative steps into publicly showing ourselves. The weight of straightness falling off when we do. Joy dawning, the sky opening.

And then the moment of heartbreak: the first backlash. The shouted slur, the lost job. The person who we’d relied on, who had been baffled by our pain before, who we’d thought would see we were happy now and be glad for us, who tells us to change back. Who hates what we’re becoming. Who sees our genuine self, the person we’ve always been inside, and doesn’t want it. Who tells us they can only respect who we aren’t.

And then we have to mourn. Grieve the loss of respect, of safety, of normalcy. Because they’re not wrong; the world is like that. But. If we let ourselves feel it—grieve it, the loss of the old life, even if it was killing us—we can clear our hearts for the new one, the new self-respect and the unexpected people who will be our protection and the new normal we’ll create with them. The ways we can fight for a new world we can live in.

The thing that gives me hope that we haven’t lost Ed to Izzy’s world is this:

He’s crying over the painting, the memory of something real. Something that had felt like a world he could live in—something that had been Ed’s, not just Blackbeard’s. Blackbeard hadn’t cried like this. He’d been depressed and dangerous, not mourning. The tears are Ed. He’s met himself, now; he knows what felt like freedom, what made life briefly sweet. That gives me hope that given any help, any unexpected protection, he’ll pick himself up and find his way to remaking the world again.

Hils Watches Love Me, Love My Voice - Ep 4

First of all shoutout to this post because when I tried to take the below screenshot it was suddenly blocked despite all the other episodes being fine. Turned off Hardware Acceleration as instructed and it immediately worked. Reblog to save the life of a liveblogger/reviewer

I love that Gu Sheng having to work with one of Mo Qingcheng's fans is the closest we've had to any sort of real drama, and this is being played as funny rather than angsty or dramatic. Like 'awkward, my employee has a crush on the dude who keeps flirting with me'

I love how brazen he is. Openly admitting he's trying to get a girlfriend. I wonder who it could be... Also, LOL at Gu Sheng in the background pretending not to eavesdrop

I would like a man with a nice voice to recite poetry to me late at night when I can't sleep

Confession: I am in my 40s and it literally never occurred to me that conch shells have creatures living inside them or that you could eat them. I mean I couldn't eat them because I am allergic to mollusks but people can and do eat them. Every day is a school day as they say. I do enjoy these little recipe segments.

Say You Love Me - done

Was it a good drama? Objectively perhaps not. But it was worth the price of admission to see incredibly solid acting from everyone (this drama is old, and so it did not suffer from the phenomenon of idols who may be talented in other things but have no experience with acting being put in just for looks) and tackle themes and characters modern dramas don't really care for - I mean, the gender reversal itself with the two women being the doers and the drivers and both men being passive willing or unwilling recipients of what they dish out is fascinating. Byung Soo, our ML, was a tall, well-built Victorian maiden, suffering over loss of chastity and falling ill from angst and needing permission to take any action and second ML was willing to enable SFL to bang other men as long she wanted it. The two women literally fought and then men only wept. It was also remarkably character consistent; Byung Soo was a lovely sweet puppy of a person and the drama showed what a freaking drawback or even cruelty that could be. (I am still impressed that Kim Rae Won, who in my head is associated with these totally alpha types, played such a weak, submissive, beta boy (because I can't really call BS a man between his youth and personality) so well).

Anyway, eps 12-15, let's go. ML and FL have finally had enough of their psycho significant others and ran off to the same place. This is the first time we see them happy in eps and eps. For someone who was obsessed with his smile, SFL really made sure he never smiles again, this is the first time we see his smile in eps and eps.

But they can't get back together because he feels unworthy and also because SFL has basically terrified him into thinking she will die if he leaves her (which is deeply ironic in light of what is about to happen.)

Because his granny dies (and SFL chooses to bring up what he did with FL at the freaking funeral, because the woman knows no shame or time/place, god when FL dragged her off and they had a fight, it was glorious.)

And that is basically the last straw for a dude who was already contemplating suicide a while back and that was before everything else that got dumped on him. And so our Victorian Maiden ML aka monk boy literally collapses into a unconsciousness and is likely to die from EMO AND STRESS AND ANGST. God, I love this drama.

SFL decides a great thing to do to an unconscious and possibly dying man is to move him from the home he grew up in to her apartment because she doesn't like looking at pictures of him with others in the place. She also doesn't let his friends visit (I am not saying FL, I am saying dude friends) because "I am his wife." She is so insane, her brain should be dissected for study. The best part he's utterly unconscious but he keeps weeping FL's name non-stop over and over and over as SFL is slowly driven insane by that. GLORIOUS!!!!

SFL is, as always, making everything about her - someone else's suicide attempt, funeral of someone else's loved one, someone else's childhood trauma, and now someone else's unconscious murmurs are all directed to torment her, the real victim.

This cracked me up - she always says that when he's about to die but the moment he's not literally on brink of death, she's all...psych!

Bwahahaha how I enjoyed this.

And then they are all so yeah he's dying. Why it does not occur to anyone to take him to the hospital is beyond me. Unless they know it's a Victorian Emotional Illness (tm) so no hospital can be cured. So SFL finally caves and lets FL in to see him.

Guess who magically gets better? Heeeee.

Anyway, YC makes sure he's OK and peaces out. SFL is all fine fine you can go to her, my boy toy, mainly because I think she's (a) finally realized he's literally gonna die at the pace she's going and (b) he's literally ready to bolt anyway, even his obedient self can't take it any more. I’ve been seeing you reblogging Love is in the Air and I’ve never heard of it but I’m curious. Is it good? What’s it about?

Knuckle down, you just gave me a free pass to rave over one of my latest obsessions - hope you are ready!

The show is based on two novels by Thai author MAME; "Love Storm" and "Love Sky". It is about the separate (but connected) love stories of two friends, and the ups and downs they both faces along the way.

The first half of the show starts with the character Rain, whose car breaks down during a thunderstorm. A handsome stranger stops, and helps him out.

Rain later discovers that the man is the legendary Payu (= 'Storm') that everyone at his architectural faculty talks about, but who Rain himself never met as Payu graduated before Rain started. When Rains car breaks down again, Payu is there to help once more, this time taking the car to the garage his family owns and operates. Payu is under the impression Rain is flirting with him, looking to hook up - but Rain refuses him. Payu wont accept money for the reparations to Rains car, rather opting for a payment in the form of Rain being/talking respectful to him as a senior. Payu also clearly loves to tease and rile Rain up - and as Rain gets fed up with him and this behaviour (as he quickly turned from lovestruck-by-the-stranger-who-helped-him to annoyed-by-the-cocky-senior-who-his-classmates-worships-as-a-hero), he vows to make Payu fall in love with him.

Payu is definitely amused by this (and very much not opposed to his challange...), and gives him a month to accomplish his task. What follows is Rains mission to juggle schoolwork and making Payu fall for him, all while falling for Payu himself.

The second part of the series focuses on Rains friend and classmate, Sky, who during Rains arch helps Rain sneak into an illegal streetrace that they hear Payu is attending/helping out with. Sky is able to get this information from his ex, who also moves in these circles. During the race, Sky meets Prapai (= 'Wind') - a racer and also a friend of Payus - who helps him escape the guards that discovered him. In exchange for helping Sky out, Prapai hints heavily that he wants to sleep with Sky. Sky, clearly upset by this still just replies "just take what you want", and they end going back to Prapais place (and I will die on the hill that notorious sleeps-around-Prapai sees this as playful flirting, although we we all wished for better communication and clearer consent..)

Afterwards Prapai tries to ask for Skys name and number, but Sky refuses. As Prapai remembers Sky coming to the race with Rain, he eventually convinces Rain to give him Sky's number - and Prapai starts his journey on pursuing Sky. Sky, who clearly suffers from a lot of trauma, keeps rejecting Prapai - sure that Prapai only wants him for sex. Prapai - never giving up - is very determined to prove him wrong.

I could write for days about this show, but I'm going to try to hold back haha - and I think I managed to avoid spoilers? (Like, Payus identity is literally revealed in ep 1, Sky's trauma is also revealed early on, but the viewers learns more about it as the show progresses).

This show has literally become one of my all-time favourite BLs, I love the story and the characters to bits. I really didn't think that would happen when I started the show - I don't know how well versed you are with BLs, or Thai BL-shows but the author MAMEs works are.. well, people love to hate them and there are reasons for that. Not only does her works often include themes of (past/) trauma (which in itself is not a problem, but rather how its portrayed/dealt with), pretty stereotypical 'top-bottom'-roles and the stories are usually pretty... mid.. but consent in general is also most often portrayed a bit.. iffy, although that is a problem with the majority of all BLs despite author and country of origin.

Love in the air - or rather especially the novels which it is based on - is not an exception to scenes that is playing way too loose with consent, although I am really (pleasantly) surprised how this adaption handles it overall. It's one of the few shows we actually see the characters asking for consent and respecting boundaries, and although the bar is on the ground, the times they do adress it, its done pretty good. In adapting the novels to a show, they made some really good changes to the story and characters, and the actors are phenomenal! The chemistry between them, especially Peat and Fort who plays Sky and Prapai are out of this world! And the story between Sky and Prapai are really the strongest bit in the show - Rain and Payus love story is more lighthearted, more humours and sweet (with some darker bits in the mix) and it's wondeful - but Sky and Prapais story are much more complex, more serious and it has some real gut-punching moments in a way I never expected after watching the first arch.

There is also some of the best adult scenes I've watched in BLs.. Like, whats up with Thai BL and NC-scenes (NC=No children 17 and under) lately???

Spice aside, there is also so much more to this show, but yeah - trying to not spoil too much and to hold back (this is long enough as it is...)

If you are interested in watching it, I would really urge you to give it a chance - and to keep in mind that (at least in my opinion), the show just gets better by every episode.

guess who?? it’s kp anon!! damn this forest episode was such a different vibe than the stuff we’ve seen before. I felt like I was watching different characters (did they film this early or something?) but I’m not complaining it was still amazing 1/7

they finally talked and kinn could be himself and show his soft goofy side!! they were so cute, p teaching him to fish and playing around in the water and stuff. and they’re just so in love?? like girl when p lied down on kinn and he looked at him smiling and nuzzled his hair??? I died a little. and the way p purposefully lost the game to sacrifice himself AAAH I thought that would be the most angsty thing I will get in this ep (HA) p finally got to see the real kinn and he’s immediately ready to give up a hand, very relatable. kinn is madly in love but what else is knew? this little shit really let himself be handcuffed to p for several days just to enjoy his company. that was so gay (affectionate) <3 AND THE ENDING!! SO MUCH WAS HAPPENING!! HE LET HIM GO HE FUCKING LET HIM GO but i knew p would turn around and kiss him, i cant with these two!! and the way p wrapped his arms around him bc he didn’t want to let go!! and kinn was holding his shirt like?? yes yes yes the way they were so soft and tactile with each other the whole episode, the way they were allowed to just be themselves around each other!! the fishing scene was so incredible, kinn getting all giddy and happy when he was taught, the way you really get to understand that he never really had a childhood - never really got to do anything himself, things were always bought or rigged for him but this, porsche teaching him how to do something instead of doing it for him, kinn proving to himself that he can be good at things was so special to him

i could go on and on and on about how kinn played rock every time they did rock paper scissors and, porsche isn't stupid, i know that man picked up on it, i know he could have won on purpose but he didn't!! the way he was literally willing to sacrifice a whole ass HAND for him really speaks volumes for how much he cares about him

god god god, the knowledge that, as soon as porsche told him he found a knife, kinn could have uncuffed them, but he didnt because he wanted to be stuck with porsche like this. the way you can see the guilt weighing on him when they fall in the little cavern thing and porsche gets frustrated, the way kinn holds his arm so tenderly to stop his wrist from getting marked up anymore, his sad little voice when he says 'this helps us get to know each other better', thats just laced with so much guilt because he thinks this is his fault. that its just another way he's hurting porsche. and then porsche goes and volunteers to lose a hand for him and kinn is done. he knows he cant keep him shackled to him, literally or metaphorically, anymore and so he just... he lets him go. he looks at porsche and says this is how i love, i love enough to let you go.

god the hug kiss combo was so good. it was so imperfect but thats what made it so perfect because it was full of desperation and longing and panic, it was just the two of them wanting to be close and to hold on for as long as possible because they both know that this is it. this is the last thing they'll get of each other. so they hold each other so tight and clutch and kiss and grip like they never want to let go. and then porsche coming back for him!!!! because even if he was never going to see kinn again, to live in a world where he's dead, to live in a world where theres no more kinn isn't a reality he's prepared to face. so he runs back and saves him because he never had another option.

also i hope u saw the special clip they released kp anon beloved!!!! the softness of them in it fucking fuck!!!!

Asdfghjkl we must’ve watched the ep at the same time, there weren’t new posts until just now but yEAHH :D I WAS BOUTTA CRY MY HEART WAS SHAKING THEY REALLY MADE IT SO SAD AND THEN THE ENDING KICKED IN 😢 c’MON right after that, AND THE ANIMATION WAS PHENOMENAL LIKE WHOOOO I liked the zoom-up they did into Hawks’s eye when Dabi yelled his name, oh the shock! And that they aided the viewers with that was going on when he was being a speedy boy, all the better to retain info for characterizations!

(2) I was holding my breath hoping they balanced the “Hawks might have to kill but he doesn’t want to” right. Good points: They kept “I don’t want to fight you!” Twice’s “that’s just convenient for you!” Helps that, it’s a different line vs his petty “sounds like a you problem” but sinks in better because WE know as the No.2 a fight isn’t inconvenient, we see him winning easy, he just doesn’t WANT to fight. Love how the scene lingers on so many important lines tbh. (3) The camera is literally WATCHING Dabi blurt out “You didn’t notice me! You were distracted by emotions! You MADE A MISTAKE HERO!” Wayyyy more than a simple “looks like sentiment tripped you up after all!” from behind him. He’s going through a full facial range of expressions here. The audience will remember, bless. And I like they altered Fatgum’s “yo Hawks is a spy” scene to take place after the Machia reveal vs out in a random field with Tokoyami going ?? My mentor, what??? out of the blue (4) Once again having NPCs go “how’d we get so much info?!” HERE instead of Fatgum asking + going unanswered in Tsukauchi’s office in a small barely noticeable panel will STICK, it’s impactful! Pity we lost Toko wanting to see Hawks again, but it’s fine. Maybe next time? Or it was there and I forgot oop. Hnnn, don’t like the “kill” vibe, but tbh I expected it :/ I mean. Okay. “Someone has to die” could be read as that. You know how Dabi wasn’t planning on Twice dying, but used the opportunity? (5) Looking past his carelessness for a moment here. Maybe the anime is trying to parallel that by saying, “Hawks was planning on killing Twice, but he took advantage of an opportunity with Dabi’s interruption knocking out Twice for him” which uh, changed quickly. “I said don’t move!” (You did not buddy.) did they keep that I forgot 😭 also the collection of Twice’s echoing “die, hero” was CHILLING, my last complaint is “I didn’t belong there.” With them transitioning that line into- (6) Hawks’ shadow face, it would’ve been SO GOOD if they made it a contrast by switching from his sad smile to that face but y’know they cut it. Instead it’s a switch from old Twice to current Hawks. And that line + that smile would be So Good, had they used the word “cage” instead of “there” because the motif appears in his backstory. Nevermind, one more thing. Rip, Hawks looking cool af descending with his sword. Hello uh, demon Hawks hidden in the fire. (7) Looking at ani react vids and ooh, you mean after Dabi said “heroes are always ready to save a life” he’s all “ironic isn’t it?” errr, was that there 😶 sounds more like he’s throwing shade on Hawks than “yeah I trusted you would save him” Hawks is SO FAST I can’t tell if we can see him hold onto the burning feather lol, slow down for my mortal eyes boi. Slight positive note? Guided flashbacks and added snippets to give a clear vision to the audience is good. Some people didn’t notice- (8) That he was destroying the cameras. Also nice they flashback connected “I want to help you, you’re a good person” to “those who help their friends aren’t that bad” is it Hawks that isn’t all that bad? Is it Twice who is nice? Read both ways! But hmm. Anyone notice the distinct lack of THE RECORDER?!?! #HoriReallyDitchedTheRecorderPlotForNagantAndToldTheAnimeToFollowConspiracyTheory. Whelp. No one can call me “in denial” if everyone is going to be this sus about it. Review concluded, thank u!

I noticed the lack of recorder as well and I'm disappointed it's not going to have a role in the manga, it could have been utilised so well to have the league turn against one another due to Dabi's actions but I guess with AFO playing puppeteer with almost all of them it's no longer needed.

Six Eared Shadow

Do you remember the analysis about Mei and Red Son? That was me, and I'm doing this again, but now about Macaque and Sun Wukong

Because what the heck why do they hate each other so much

Ok, so this... This is such a messy chaotic really chaotic mix of a few headcanons and theories I made up and it SOMEHOW turned into a fanfic that I wrote so long that other people made many similar things in meanwhile and now this sounds not original at all, but I wrote it not to keep it in my deep hidden shelf so here we go

(It's based on what I know from the lmk series. I've started to read JTTW, but I'm still not so far to get to know anything about Macaque, but I won't change anything about this theory from now on)

Let's gather some basic information for the start.

-> Macaque is made with a shadow or even he is a shadow (kinda shadow demon, the demon of shadow). I mean, shadow is not only his power, he literally is made with shadow matter. We know that because he can not only manipulate shadows but also go through walls and turn yourself into a shadow.

-> I'm not sure if someone made him or he just "poof" out of nowhere just like Sun Wukong, but according to the story he told about how close he and Monkey King used to be, there's no doubt they had some master/student relationship which later turned into almost equal partnership. What is said, Macaque followed Sun Wukong for a long time, learning a lot from him, 'being his shadow'. They grew in power together, fought together, and (as it is said) Macaque started casting as Sun Wukong shadow, which (surprisingly) looks like he did willingly. Just look at the picture - the shadow is big and bright, it’s powerful and smiling, proud of his strength. He doesn’t look like someone forced to be Sun Wukong’s shadow. It shows how much Macaque admired Monkey King, that he wasn't just a friend for him, he was his idol.

-> We all know Macaque is a shadow demon, he can easily change his appearance, he does not have to look like an evil clone of Monkey King, especially if he hates him now or something, SO even if he used to look up at Sun as his ex-student or ex-partner, and now we know he is NOT, he would prefer to not look so similar any more.

He can choose any other look, but he doesn't. Why? Well, maybe he actually cannot. Maybe this isn't an appearance he has specifically chosen, maybe this is his 'basic' comfy form and any other form would just take too much energy to keep up. And looking at the really tiny probability of two very similar monkeys just "poofing" out of nowhere, I dare to say, Macaque wasn't born (I mean like Sun Wukong or any other demon), but he was specifically created. And here is a question: on someone's purpose or not? Maybe the power of great Monkey King was so strong so the part of it just jumped from him and formed into another similar creature, but let me say it's just weird and I prefer the theory of Sun Wukong being so bored and lonely after his master's (Tripitaka) death, and he created a brother for himself from his own shadow. Just to have someone, anyone.

So Wukong created Macaque and then what? He trained him, he taught him everything he knew, maybe even he shared his powers with him. Some great great bonding time. But as Macaque said, something drew them apart. It is visible that Macaque blamed Monkey King for this, for 'forgetting him'. Before speculation of what happened then between them, let's focus on what Macaque showed us what he wants now.

We have two episodes, both show different sides of him. In season 1, Macaque's main goal is to steal Monkey King's power from Mk, and then to very specifically revenge. He visibly does not want to defeat Sun Wukong, he wants to hurt him as much as possible. Look: when Monkey King showed up, Macaque totally forgot about Mk. And then, when he's so close to defeat him, instead of that he turned to Mk and tried to kill the teenager. Mk is just a tool to hurt Sun Wukong.

And we can't forget how Macaque constantly pointed out all the weak sides of Sun, he's basically just saying on and on "you're weak, you're weak, you're so weak, I'm so strong, I'm strong, you are so weak". Which really fits the feeling of being forgotten because he was weaker and Monkey King was stronger, better, glorious and famous. Macaque really feels like that, he really tried to make Sun Wukong feel his pain by dominating him.

On the other hand, we see that Sun constantly striked off him. He said almost nothing to him, just "Aren't you bored of keep being in my shadow? It's time to give back what you've stolen" and that was fricking all. For Monkey King, Macaque is a just shadow, always behind him, something you turn around and leave behind to not see it and to forget, like an unwanted past. An unnecessary problem, that irritatingly keeps returning to him. He does not want to interact to not make even a slight more bond between them, he wants to delete him from his life forever, and omg WHY. At this end of the ep, Sun Wukong did not even mention Macaque. He really doesn't care at all (or extremely tries to not care). His HATE is almost touchable, ouch.

In season 2, Sun Wukong LEFT US ALL ALONE. Macaque showed up again, he played with Mk a bit, and... Left? That's the thing, you see, he doesn't need to hurt or kill Mk. All we see is Macaque talking about his past and then letting Mk experience something the 'hero' in the story should have felt. The guilt. When Mk interpreted his story differently, seeing himself as the warrior, Macaque corrected him. Cause he doesn't care about Mk at all. He heard how Mk told him about what hurt him, and here is a funny point, because if Macaque needs to be understood, listening to Mk and talking with him (such a simple act of empathy, they both needed it then, guh) should have been enough. Mk really felt the 'warrior' character in the story, so he understood what Macaque felt. But surprisingly, that was not what the demon carved.

Macaque chose to make Mk feel like Monkey King at the moment something drew the demons apart. He wanted to force Mk to be sorry, to apologize, to regret his mistakes, cause he failed with forcing Monkey King to feel that. But! Maybe he is not as purely innocent and poorly forlorn. We see the flashback for a half of second before Mk hit him with Staff:

We see Sun Wukong attacking Macaque who's in his demon (true) form.

Let's repeat this: Macaque felt as if a friend left him in the past. He said a friend did this to have all the "hero's glory" for themselves. We know Sun Wukong could do such a thing, especially before he met Tripitaka, but 1. In my theory Macaque is created after Tripitaka's death and 2. If (as my theory said) Sun created Macaque to not feel so lonely, he would never leave him for such a thing. So Macaque hides something for sure, something he did, something so terrible that made Sun Wukong attack him and not want to know him anymore. How horrendous thing Macaque did that made Sun Wukong choose to be alone again and to forget his dear brother he created by himself?

Back to the great bonding time, repeating speculation of "oh maybe they even share the powers" and comparing it to Macaque wanting to steal Mk's power, my theory here is saying:

Sun Wukong taught Macaque the technique of the same powers as he knew, but Macaque overused it (probably wanting to see how powerful he is, probably showing off and killing so many harmless people) doing terrible terrible things. So Monkey King took all of the powers from him and left him alone, powerless, with the last painful words: "Dont you dare to show in front of my eyes ever again". Of course Macaque was hurt, of course he didn't see why he's the bad guy, because he did not care about people at all. And of course Sun Wukong was hurt too.

Maybe he came back to the village Macaque had destroyed and following a quiet crying he found a little baby with a heart so clear and he put into him all Macaque's powers, making them sleep until the time will be right... But back to the series!

Yes exactly. Why did he destroy the lantern and leave? Why did he suddenly lose interest in teasing Mk and stop forcing him to feel guilty?

First thing, he saw Mk is ready to fight for his friends seriously. He still cared so much about them, not like Monkey King about Macaque. That was hard to swallow, that was hard to watch for the demon. That was't the thing he wanted to see. And second, the flashback. Maybe the sudden realization that he actually did something bad. Cause Sun Wukong didn’t just leave him, he cast him out. It was hard to admit that he actually deserved this (or maybe much more), it’s much easier to blame others, not yourself. So Macaque felt “that’s enough” and left. Mk brought him to this uncomfortable point of admitting the truth. Which he didn’t want to. Maybe in the following eps, he will see it, but now Macaque just isn’t ready yet. But the last talk with Mk gives me a little hope. He stopped treating him like a tool or toy, he was actually talking with him like with a person, he even warned him about Lady Bone Demon.

Maybe (maybe) one day he'll see that humans aren't just useless creatures he can carelessly kill, maybe Mk will make him care and realize what he's done, but that's just speculation in speculation, he could die before he reaches that point, maybe he is already dead....

In continuation to this post about Dooku’s stupid sad face, let’s wallow some more! This man is the worst and I wish he’d quit breaking my heart.

Much like being ordered to use his connection to Yoda to try and destroy him visibly broke Dooku’s heart (no, I’m not kidding, I promise there’s evidence for that, please check it out, oh my gosh Dooku why are you like this), being told to get rid of Ventress clearly hurt him so much.

There is just so much to talk about here. There are several key things in this episode (s3ep12 - Nightsisters). For one thing, after Dooku kneels to Sidious in the first scene, we never see him standing up again - except to kneel again, or when we see him through a com. So ‘Lord Tyranus’ is, in fact, nothing more than a beaten dog, whose only power is an image - that is, a mirage. It’s a nice touch, and a good reminder that those who follow the Dark Side are, in fact, nothing but slaves - and most notably, they are slaves to themselves, which is what happens here.

Dooku does not want to give up Ventress. He readily admits that she is important to him - and isn’t that foolish? Why would you ever tell a Sith Lord that there is something in the Galaxy beside yourself that you value? What’s more, he immediately interjects when Sidious says that she is ‘too important.’

To question his Sith Master like that is reckless and dangerous. Dooku is cunning, calculating, and most of all, self-serving - so for him to speak out like this means he couldn’t help himself. That’s how much he valued her. Unfortunately, the Dark will always make you value yourself more. Indeed, when Sidious questions his loyalty - loyalty that is nothing but a sham, which they both know, because the way of the Sith is to stab each other in the back - Dooku is quick to say that he’d never train his own apprentice. (Which, you know, he does next episode when he gets Savage.)

But anyway, this is Dooku’s face right before he agrees to kill Ventress - and right before he bows - practically kowtows - to Sidious. It’s pure anger.

But he agrees nonetheless. None of his anger, none of his hatred, none of his rage give him any power at all. And so, to preserve himself - because again, that’s what the Dark Side makes you do - he bows like an animal. When Anakin holds on to people because he can’t bear not to have them in his life, Dooku cuts people off because he is endangered by his connections, because of the position he put himself into in his quest for power. (Which is again quite ironic - a man called ‘Lord’ greets the man calling him that with complete subservience.) They go about it differently, but they are both undone by selfishness (and it’s not me saying it, it’s Lucas).

The most heartbreaking part about all of this though? When Dooku casts Ventress off, he’s not angry, he’s sad and defeated.

Just look at his face when he calls her ‘child.’

He is framed as off-balanced and cracked, ffs! And just look at his eyes.

Listen to his voice in that scene! How slowly he talks, how regretful he sounds! He looks away when he tells her he’s ordered the troops to abandon her. And when he looks at her again, listen to how stiff and impersonal his words are, in direct contrast to his previous... well, gentleness.

To save himself, he destroys a part of himself. That’s Anakin’s story. That’s Maul’s story, that’s the story of the Dark - in trying to gain something for themselves, they give up what matters. Maul tries to gain power and loses his body, then tries to gain revenge and loses the remainder of his life to a pointless endeavor that will never fulfill him. Anakin tries to preserve himself from the pain of loss and ends up losing everything he holds dear to his own actions. Dooku tries to protect his own life, and in the end has nothing to live for, and eventually dies. They all hurt themselves through their self-centeredness.

Just go and watch how defeated Dooku is when he says “I have done as you’ve asked, Asajj Ventress is dead.” Just look at his eyes right here:

And the worst thing is: this is the second time this has happened. Because Dooku did not fall because of Qui-Gon’s death - he was already a Sith when Naboo happened (as per s6ep10, The Lost One + the AotC timeline that was already too tight for him to have fallen, become Sidious’ apprentice and killed Syfo-Dias after Naboo rather than before).

Dooku has been subjecting himself to the Dark - to his own base need for self-preservation - for over ten years at this point, and he keeps doing it. He keeps repeating the same mistakes, because no matter how much he loved Qui-Gon, or Ventress, or Yoda, when faced with the question ‘what do I choose between my own interest and the interest of someone I love’ the answer of the Dark is always: “I choose ME.”

And the consequence is always suffering, for all the parties involved.

It’s not a coincidence that this very ep shows us Ventress’ first Master - her real Master, in the ways that mattered - Ky Narec.

One looks at her with pride and love - the other with bitterness, and regret, when he can look at her.

One she looks up to with joy, absolute trust and equal love - the other leaves her terrified, betrayed and alone.

Just compare Dooku to Obi-Wan - who always tries his hardest to save the ones he loves instead of preemptively cutting them off (Qui-Gon in TPM, Satine in s5, Ahsoka on Mortis, Cody in s7, Anakin because the Mustafar duel was choreographed to show that he was trying to let Anakin tire himself out and cool down, Luke in ANH) - and more often than not fails, but still tries no matter the cost to himself - and who lets go of what he has lost instead of holding onto bitterness and anger. Compare Dooku to Yoda, who is ready to give up his own safety and happiness, who is ready to die to protect Anakin (again, not kidding, here’s when it happens) rather than to pursue the outcome he wants. Yoda and Obi-Wan die with smiles on their faces, at peace, because the key to it all - the difference between love and attachment, and between love and self-preservation, and between letting go and cutting off, and between true power and the lies of the Sith - is always selflessness.

Whereas the Sith are slaves to their selfish impulses, the Jedi have the freedom to say no, I’m not going to save myself, I’m going to do what’s right, and I will be happier for it no matter how much it cost me.

The whole point of this angstfest was to say: dammit, Dooku! He used to be wise enough and strong enough to know better, and he still did this to himself, and then dragged the entire Galaxy into chaos and darkness. And I love him so much, and this self destruction that is characteristic of the Sith breaks my heart.
