The earlier HTTYD books occasionally refer to Hiccup as 'the last great viking hero' which is already a bit melancholy but grows even more so with the context of the later books. I doubt viking society as it was known and understood just totally imploded into dust during Hiccup's lifetime, it's even implied in his old man monologues that that doesn't happen. But it does imply that the end of the viking age, the death of the viking world and way of life is rapidly approaching. Just as the dragon time is over, and the dragons are slowly, slowly leaving as Hiccup grows up and old, the Viking time ends and they too slowy, slowly, die out. I wonder if Hiccup saw this coming decline and thought it was because the vikings couldn't live without dragons, economically and spiritually. How awful, to lose the thing you fought to save and sent away and then your culture year after year.

Playing DAN and HAU next to each other is a great example of HER placing a game in a foreign country and then having a cast from everywhere else. We don’t see this in CUR, SAW, or CAP and it is also mixed with VEN, ICE, SPY, LIE, and TMB. I understand that in a global society there will be people from all around the world in a given spot but I feel in HAU specifically it is a slap in the face to the Irish to have a British cast.
Others have spoken about the dismissive attitude towards the very valid concerns the Irish would have with the English. Kyler herself displays a common attitude of the English educated in not knowing of the atrocities the English enacted on the Irish. Donal is a presented as overly hating the English with no perceivable reason - so he seems unreasonable when anyone who knows about Irish history would know he is perfectly within his rights.
He absolutely would have been an adult during the Troubles, and is at most a single generation removed from Irish independence. We do not know what he did or who he lost, but we know that he watched others be killed over these issues. All of those in the story were alive for the Good Friday agreement - which turns 25 next month.
Another hit is the near complete lack of Irish in the story. We have some names sure, and Ogham runes, but the Irish language is beautiful and there has been so much work put into preserving it. It survived years of illegality and of people being outright murdered for speaking it. We know HER can integrate language, and they have in so many other games. Irish should be a part of this. (Also all signage should be in Irish and English because while there are two languages Irish should technically receive priority.)
The Irish Diaspora is huge, mostly because of specific steps that were taken by the English to exterminate Irish language, people, and culture and replace it with their own. Irish potato famine you say? Yeah, we can blame the English for how bad that was. We can blame the English in general for the shift to farming the land rather than being more pasture based.
Ireland has been essentially at peace for most millennial lives (and typically Ireland tries to stay out of outside wars - which is why the “military type” comment at the end of HAU seemed out of place) but as we have seen this past year a match could still set everything off. My dad, who has competed professionally in fishing, recalls not being able to fish in the waterways growing up because the English prohibited it. One of my grans ran a B&B where she educated English guests on what had been done to the Irish. Irish history is rarely taught properly (that is to say, with the Irish perspective in mind) outside of Ireland, which is a true shame.

Fauna y Flora de Yara: Crocodiles
Tumblr media
If you explore Yara long enough, chances are you will encounter crocodiles along the coastline as well as inland around rivers and lakes. In this article, you will learn about Yara’s crocodiles, their importance in our society as well as some safety tips if you ever find yourself face to face with these majestic but dangerous creatures.
Tumblr media
Species: Yaran vs Yanqui
Tumblr media
Yaran Crocodile
Indigenous to our country, they are smaller than their American counterparts with a longer snout and generally live and hunt in small groups (basks? A float? I’m sure there is a fancy word for a bunch of crocs other than run!)
Tumblr media
American Crocodile
They are HUGE. More than triple the size of our indigenous crocs. They emit a deep rumbling sound when disturbed. American crocodiles were introduced into Yara by the Castillo administration for reasons unknown.

There is so much to say about crocodiles. We do try and keep these articles as concise as possible, but there is a lot to cover.
Tumblr media
Crocodile Farms
Our crocodile farms are more intended as tourist attractions rather than actually raising crocodiles. There are several of them across the island as well as theme parks. Too many to show them all but notable attractions include:
Ortega Croc Farm where you can sit and enjoy a meal while watching crocodiles go about their crocodile business. This farm also holds a special mixed breed croc named “Beatriz” on display.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ortega Croc Farm in Aguas Lindas, Madrugada featuring Beatriz.
Serpentino Park on Cortina River features breathtaking habitats where you can encounter crocodiles in their natural environment. Guided tours may be offered. Check schedules at the visitor centre. Bring mosquito repellent.

Pop-culture and the Arts
Tumblr media
Croco-Taxi: These novelty taxis are obviously aimed at tourists. The idea was borrowed from our Cuban neighbours but we like to pretend we came up with it.
Tumblr media
Sculptures: Yarans from the upper class will commission impressive sculptures featuring crocodiles as a display of power and wealth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paintings of crocodiles in a rich gusano's bathroom and office space.
Tumblr media
"Art Nouveau:" Taxidermy...not sure how well I would sleep with a dead croc hanging over my bed, but to each his or her own.
Habitat and Conservation
Tumblr media
Crocodiles are everywhere even if you can’t always see them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yaran crocodiles silently gliding under a fishing boat, Cortina River, Costa del Mar.
Despite our government’s every effort to protect crocodile habitats, there has been occurrences of toxic spills as a consequence of Viviro™ production with disastrous impact on wildlife, including crocodiles.
Tumblr media
A mutated crocodile in Cienaga Nublada National Park - Cocodrilo Swamps, Balaceras, Valle de Oro.
Guerrilla Warfare
Crocodiles have been utilized in guerrilla warfare - from tossing chunks of meat into military bases to attract wild crocodiles to actually training them as attacking combatants.
Tumblr media
Safety Around Crocodiles
We don’t really need to tell you that crocodiles are dangerous animals but let’s stress the fact anyway. - We are working on a Crocodile Safety Instructional Video which will be made available in the near future. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, if you do find yourself in the murderous clutches of a crocodile, here are a few tips to increase your chances of survival:
Tumblr media
You will want to press into the roof of the crocodile's mouth to release/loosen its grip..
Tumblr media
Remove your body part from the mouth as fast as possible and clock the thing in the eye..
Tumblr media
Then kick as hard as you can and run away.
As you see, crocodiles are truly a part of the very fabric of Yara and, like them or hate them, they are unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon. Yara is their island and we just live on it.
Editor's Note: Loco por los Cocodrilos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some crazy cabrón held a funeral for his pet croc.
Tumblr media
Some even crazier cabrón had a relationship with his pet croc and he  … well .. you don’t wanna know. She ate him in the end and she lived happily ever after. Or not. She was shot. What’s wrong with people?
To learn more about activities, places, events, and all things Yara, follow us here and on all major social media. You can also check out our Content Index to find more articles of interest. Stay safe, mi gente.

Got more ideas for the Zonai! It’s mostly about the interpersonal lives the Zonai experienced than lore like the last one tbh.
~ The Zonai are a mostly agricultural society, only hunting for ritualistic purposes and for survival. They were the ones to cultivate the wheat, sugar, grains, and herbs that are still popular in Hyrulean cooking, making them a very strong contender for trading and very important to Hyrulean culture. Additionally, Faron has the highest concentration of wood and stonework in Hyrule, so they had also become an integral component to the construction industry - though were very selective of who would get materials from their homeland.
~ Agriculture is a huge part of society, with farming and draft animal care being a large part of the Zonai’s day-to-day life. After a trade between a few Hylian towns, the Zonai got a hold of draft animals to assist them, such as oxen, who had become the Zonai’s most recognisable travelling and working companions.
~ The daily life of being a high priest is quite isolating as they often only have the comfort of each other and their deity. It is often that high priests will visit the villagers, though due to their sheltered upbringings and isolation, most are unable to create true, close bonds. Most high priests are kept within their temples from birth due to their parent(s) being members of that temple’s worship and often come from high priests themselves. The exception is if a child chooses or is chosen to serve in the temple, wherein their recruitment will begin immediately rather than several years into living there.
~ The duties of the high priests both differ and are quite similar due to both their own and their deity’s disposition. Most are there to keep their god company and run their religious errands. All three gods like the sound of music, though have vastly differing tastes; Hylia prefers the sounds of strings and melancholy music, Ekoza likes the sound of wind instruments and freeing, uplifting music, and Kikias would rather have the sounds of drums and percussion with war-like, powerful music. They are also tended to in differing ways. Hylia hides herself away behind a curtain of fine material that merely projects her shadow onto the walls, and such only allow her Aama to lay eyes upon her (even if she later becomes blind - she actually prefers her Aama to look at her when blind because Hylia knows she will never be judged for her appearance), also only having her Aama running public errands. Ekoza is high-maintenance and has three other caretakers that tend to him, meaning that his only needs for his Vamai are emotional needs and the occasional physical touch when he is calm and collected. Kikias is a very active god and likes to tend to their own temple with their priests, often being their own caretaker. It doesn’t mean that they don’t like be fawned over by their worshippers and can encourage it, however their only needs their Zoclu can attend to are their ritualistic and emotional needs. In additional, all three high priests lead the Zonai tribe as a group of three and take a leadership role within celebrations, festivals, and rituals.
~The latest priests (there’s a story brewing in my head, I swear) consist of the ‘Immortal Aama’, the ‘Youthful Vamai’, and the ‘Mighty Zoclu’, serving Hylia, Ekoza, and Kikias respectively. The Aama has a calmer personality, though is somewhat flirty and has what I like to call the autistic sense of humour. She embodies the Zonai’s impression of a feminine presence and is almost fully blind, only able to see the difference between light and dark - she chooses to neglect any mobility aids such as canes as her sword has its own dowsing ability and she knows both her temple and her village inside and out, as well as preferring to feel out her environment. The Vamai is a child of around 15 years of age, and is strong-willed and adventurous in their duties. They are not afraid of taking risks, which is both a blessing and a curse when it comes to Ekoza’s own personality. They sometimes come across as a fed-up caretaker for the dragon god but truly care for him and his servants and is an overall energetic person. They are said to be the antithesis of androgyny. The Zoclu is a wall of brute force and kindness, though very intimidating and often comes across as overly aggressive. Think of the Zoclu as a Goron in Zonai skin - the definition of a himbo. Yet, he is very intelligent, and below the Aama, is considered one of the smartest people in the tribe. Despite his loss of an arm, his power and fighting ability is as strong as a being with three and is a force to be reckoned with, earning him the title of Zonai protector.
~ The arts are an incredibly important part of the Zonai culture, with not only Zonai stonework and architecture littered across Hyrule, but also with rare materials being found within their work such as jade, jasper, amethyst, etc, which many had seemingly gone extinct in the wild. Weaving and clothes-making were just as important as blacksmithing and stonemasonry, and they were the first people to figure out how to draw out vivid dyes and colours from plants and flowers in a far more effective way than the current methods of Hyruleans. Their shapely way of dress and colourful clothing is still a strong identifier in history for this tribe, as well as the tattoos and paints they would seemingly adorn their bodies with on a frequent basis.
~ Those in dangerous roles such as warriors, traders (due to their contact with the outside world), and the Vamai, had the uniforms often require the usage of many gems and jewel adornments to keep them safe using their elemental powers. Many clothing items were bejewelled with sapphire to keep cool in the humid Faron heat, and used topaz to ward off monsters with electricity. Though used rarely, ruby found use when travelling further into upper Hyrule when travelling for trade. Amber were believed to be blessed stones and would wear them for good luck and safety during battles, whilst the rare diamond would be offered to a temple for the god and worshipping priests’ good fortune and are usually worn minutely in the high priest’s outfit were offered to by their god as a show of such.

Hi! This my first ask ever, and I wanted to know, which Pokemon live in Philadelphia?
Thanks for the ask! I would love to answer this question!
Philadelphia is a city rich with history and culture. Much like other metropolitan areas whatever Pokémon would be found here need to be accustomed to the hustle and bustle of city life. However, that's not to say that there are no surrounding natural areas. In fact, as rich as the city is with culture, there is a plethora of wildlife in the marshes and farm fields just outside the city that can support a huge diversity of wildlife. The forest types outside the city are generally Northern Mixed Hardwood forests and Appalachian Oak Forests. Together with the multiple freshwater marshes, rivers, ponds, and grasslands, there truly are few limitations as to what species may be present!
Grass - Grookey
Tumblr media
As the birthplace for many rock, jazz, R & B, and Hip Hop artists, Philadelphia has roots in music that run very, very deep. I think it's a safe bet that as a Pokémon that utilizes its natural sense of rhythm to attack but also nourish surrounding plant life, Grookey would be incredibly well adapted for life in the city. Considering its mobility and primate-like appearance I believe it is also adapted to be able to survive in the surrounding forests. Also, drumsticks used by musicians are commonly made from species like maple, oak, and hickory. These species are known as hardwood trees and because of their lack of non-supportive cells compared to softwood trees like pine, they are a lot stronger and slower growing than softwood trees. Thus, not only would Grookey have the "groove" necessary for life in Philly, but it would also have access to the best material to make its drumstick with!
Fire - Fennekin
Tumblr media
To be honest it was difficult to find the right fire Pokémon for Philadelphia. There are a lot of factors to consider when trying to hypothesize how Pokémon may best be suited to their native environment. Frankly, it was a bit of a process of elimination, but I think this makes the most sense. Fennekin is based off of the fennec fox, which is a fox species native to Northern Africa. Although Philadelphia is nowhere near as warm as Northern Africa, the surrounding environment is home to both the Red Fox and the Gray Fox. Foxes are opportunistic predators, meaning they are not the least bit picky when it comes to their next meal. As there is a ton of wildlife diversity surrounding Philadelphia and in the rest of Pennsylvania, I think its characteristics based off of species in the fox family (vulpes) will allow Fennekin to thrive well in this area. Furthermore, Fennekin is constantly grooming itself and is always concerned with its appearance. This sense of fashion and self-image would come as an adaptation in a city so rich with culture!
Water - Mudkip
Tumblr media
In the Heart Gold and Soul Silver Pokédex entries, Mudkip is said to "rest by covering itself in mud at the bottom of a river." With the Delaware River a big part of the Pennsylvania landscape, and with the many marshes and wetlands in the surrounding area, I think Mudkip would be well adapted for life in Philadelphia. Several other Pokédex entries say that it uses the fin on its head as a sort of radar to determine what is taking place around it. This may be useful in a busy city to help narrow its concentration and focus where there can be a lot going on at once. Furthermore, as I was concerned about its amphibian-like physiology, I was concerned at how necessary it was this Pokémon be close to water. However as I looked more into it, this Pokémon doesn't appear to require it be constantly submerged in water like the common mudpuppy (Necturus maculosus) which it is based off of. It is perfectly content being out of the water for prolonged periods of time.
I hope I answered your question! If you would like to know about the early route species or anything else just let me know and I can make an addition!
Thank you for reaching out!

We’re in a plant-filled laboratory and greenhouse at the St Lucia campus of University of Queensland. Here scientists are studiously observing hundreds of taro plants, trying to unlock the secrets of a new kind of taro that’s ready for the challenges of climate change-both at home and abroad, in an international research partnership with Fiji. Subscribe 🔔 http://ab.co/GA-subscribe
Taro (Colocasia esculenta cv.) is a tropical plant primarily grown for it’s sweet, starchy, edible corms, which are a hugely important food crop globally. A staple food in African, PNG, Asian, Caribbean and in particular Polynesian cultures, taro is believed to be one of the earliest cultivated plants. In 2018 global production was over 10 million tonnes.
Despite this global importance, the crop remains somewhat neglected in scientific research, particularly when compared to commodity crops like wheat. “Taro fits in what we call ‘orphan crops’, where all the research funding attention in Australia focuses on larger staple crops at the expense of others. It means we can make advances with these ‘orphan crops’ quickly, as there’s less improvements that have been made already” says plant physiology researcher at the University of Queensland, Dr Millicent Smith.
As part of the research project, Millicent and her team of researchers have been taking different taro plants (collected over a 20-year project!) and subjecting them to varying degrees of salinity, and seeing who survives.
Various taro seedlings are placed into containers not unlike self-watering pots, and then submitted to different degrees of salinity, precisely calibrated. Their reactions are recorded on cameras.
Parallel to this is detailed genetic mapping, looking to correlate particular genetic “markers” in taro with better performance in salinity. Once these genetic markers are identified, it makes it easier to identify them in other taro varieties.
“We observe how plants react to these salinity treatments. Plants can adjust to salinity osmotically (through diffusion of water/fluid-pH), but toxic ions still build up. Some plants like saltbush have a strategy for dealing with these ions. We’re finding out what the key traits are for taro to survive this salinity. We want to find the mechanism. Once we do that, we can bring any mechanism we find back through plant breeding”.
Salinity can reduce a plant’s ability to absorb water, resulting in symptoms like drought; stunted growth, poor germination, leaf burn, wilting and death. Salinity can also affect nutrient availability and uptake.
“We try to understand the process of how these plants were domesticated, and through that we’re trying to find traits that may have inadvertently selected against in the past, that may help”.
But the search for the taro of the future doesn’t stop within the confines of existing taro cultivars. All along the Brisbane River and surrounding tributaries, taro thrive on muddy embankments, thought to be escapees from gardens and farms.
The hope is these Brisbane-brand emancipated taro populations may hold the key to keep the crop going in a not-so-distant future climate.
Perhaps nowhere is the reality of climate change clearer than in the Pacific Ocean. As sea levels rise, small island nations like Tonga, Samoa and Fiji find themselves increasingly dealing with rising soil salinity. Coincidentally, many of these countries also rely on the taro as a staple food, grown largely in coastal areas. As salinity in arable areas increases, the future of this essential food is under threat.
Dr Brad Campbell is a molecular biologist at the University of Queensland which has been working in partnership with the national scientific body of Fiji to address this very problem.
The future of growing food in a changing climate is uncertain, but one thing is definite; crops everywhere will need to get by in harder, more changeable conditions. It’s humbling to think that the answer to feeding millions of people may be sitting on the muddy banks of the Brisbane River, waiting patiently to be discovered.

You wanted an excuse to rant about charcoal in food, Here it is
MWAH ANON I LOVE YOU SO MUCH <3
(slight warning; lots of talk of eating, food, nutrition and slight mention of diet culture, from a biological scientist perspective and not a dietician perspective)
ok so. the primary function of charcoal when eaten is that it absorbs lots of chemicals. i can't remember exactly what the list is or how it works cos I'm not a chemist but generally, charcoal absorbs lots of stuff that is toxic to animals like parrots, chimpanzees and humans. this also includes stuff like medication so you shouldn't eat charcoal, activated or not, if you're on any medication or have even taken painkillers, cos the charcoal will just absorb it and render it useless.
now this aspect of charcoal does indeed have a function in biological organisms, namely the 'absorbing toxins' part, it's not just a diet fad that's cropped up in the last however many years.
bear with me as we detour to animals that only eat plant matter, herbivores. plants are the primary source of food for most food webs in nature, and we literally would not be anywhere without them. however, they are not very nutritious or filling, so anything that exists entirely off a plant diet has to eat LOTS of them to get the nutrients they need to survive and exist.
(this isn't to say vegetables AREN'T nutritious, they ARE, you should definitely eat your veggies, they just don't contain things like lots of iron or protein which is in animal products)
this is why farming is so environmentally destroying, because it takes a huge amount of space to grow all the grass needed for all the animals you have (namely cows and sheep pigs and chickens, though you can feed chickens and pigs scraps and other things including meat, but not if they're gonna be turned into pork chops or chicken dinner themselves which is another topic I wanna yell about sometime, it's really funky). this is also why lots of herbivorous animals have multiple stomachs, because they need to extract AS MUCH NUTRITION AS POSSIBLE from what plants they do eat, and having multiple or chambered stomachs helps do that.
anyway. plants are hugely versatile as a diet because there's so many of them and they're literally all over the world, but given they don't actually have a ton of nutrition in them, you sometimes have to make weird leaps to get what you need out of a plant-based diet.
one of these leaps is eating toxic plants. animals like chimpanzees and parrots eat plants with toxins in them, because those plants also contain the nutrients they need to survive and live. however, because they can't eat the plants without getting poisoned, they need to get the toxins out.
cue eating charcoal! or sometimes, clay. eating charcoal in small bits absorbs the toxins in the poisonous plants without losing the nutrients they do get out of them! boom, everyone's happy and healthy and alive :D
now humans, on the other hand, are not herbivorous, we are omnivorous. say what you want about vegetarians and vegans, we evolved as a species to live off multiple sources of food, several of them being animal products like meat, eggs, dairy, etc. the important thing about eating animal products is that because they came from living organisms that were huge collections of stuff they'd already eaten, they have a LOT of nutrients that you will not get from eating plants!
one specific reason for this is that every protein in our body that we need to have to survive is made up of some assortment of at least 22 different amino acids. some proteins use lots of amino acids, some only use a few, but our body can only produce 20 of them by itself; we don't have all 22, and we need to get the remaining ones from stuff we eat. this is why a plant-based diet is difficult to manage if you're an omnivore, because you are literally depriving yourself of things you need to LIVE. (also I'm not sure if its still 22 amino acids or if the number has changed but that's what I learnt, please correct me if I'm wrong!)
this is why vegetarians and vegans need to be careful of their iron and protein levels and find supplements if they intend on doing these diets. you can avoid meat and animal products if you really want, but your body evolved to survive off meat and eggs and cheese and things like it, so you need to try and manage that artificially if you're not going to eat the things that have those in them.
now whats important to know is that while animal products have tons of nutrients in them, herbivores are literally not built to digest them. if you feed a horse meat it will literally die because it can't digest it and it will probably rot in its stomach (and horses can't throw up so it can't even get it out of its body). therefore, herbivores HAVE to resort to wacky methods like eating toxic plants to get the nutrients they need to survive.
humans have no such caveat. we evolved to eat meat, we can get the nutrients we need from meat, we can survive on a very varied diet that includes plants AND meat, and we never ever need to resort to eating toxic plants for survival because anything helpful in toxic plants is already in stuff like meat and eggs and cheese and dairy!!
let me emphasize that again: WE DON'T NEED TO EAT TOXIC PLANTS BECAUSE THERE IS NO NEED OR BENEFIT WHEN WE CAN GET WHAT THEY COULD POTENTIALLY PROVIDE FROM MEAT AND OTHER ANIMAL PRODUCTS.
if you can see where im going with this, congrats, gold star, I love you. if you can't, hold tight while I keep yelling and also gold star for reading this far, I love you too.
charcoal absorbs toxins. animals that NEED to eat charcoal eat it because they can only live off toxic plants, because they can't digest meat to get the nutrients they need to survive. ingesting toxins is paramount to their survival and they had to find a way to manage it to survive that way.
humans do not need to ingest toxic plants, because any nutrients they have are found in meat and we could not possibly need to resort to eating toxic plants as a species to survive.
THEREFORE
the claim that eating charcoal 'rids your body of toxins from your diet' is bogus, stupid, lazy, dangerous and just flat out misinformation made by diet companies to sell you products that don't work, will never work and are literally fucking useless to you, BECAUSE WE DON'T EAT ANYTHING THAT IS ACTUALLY FUCKING TOXIC.
if you eat regular human food - yes, that includes processed and deep-fried shit, food with msg, sugars, carbs, literally anything that humans across the globe have eaten for years and not horrifically died from - YOU ARE NOT INGESTING TOXINS.
preservative chemicals? sure! artificial flavouring? yep! lots of excess sugars? absolutely! microplastics? it's possible!
but unless you are actually going out and eating hollyhock, cigarettes, plastic itself or molten rock, you are not eating anything that would kill you. there are no toxins in your diet of store-bought biscuits, there are no toxins in that Chinese takeout, there are no toxins in that can of soup that's good to sit on the shelf for four years. there are no toxins in regular human food, because your body evolved to draw nutrients from plants, meat, eggs, nuts, fruit, cheese, fish, vegetables and so many other things, so you never ever had to eat toxic plants like our distant animal cousins.
charcoal products like idk yoghurt or ice cream or coffee or milk are largely harmless, sure (unless you're on medication, then it will just negate the medication completely and fuck you up that way) but they're socially a money-grabbing lie that profits off of harmful weight loss and diet culture and plays into the ideas of 'bad' foods, which is what contributes to eating disorders and self-esteem issues.
i'm not saying you can't eat charcoal stuff. if you want to eat charcoal stuff or put it in your food for fun, sure, go ahead, its kinda kooky and fun and admittedly not harmful unless you're on medication; just be careful with it and you'll be fine.
im saying that the idea that you NEED to cleanse your body of harmful toxins is stupid and unsound and literally based on nothing. your body already cleans itself of harmful things - your kidneys filter your blood all the time and take anything that's not helpful out, and your liver literally takes alcohol out of your blood for you. your body is built fine the way it is, and your diet is fine the way it is. you don't need to ''''cleanse'''' yourself of anything, and anyone trying to tell you that is trying to sell you something at the cost of your self-worth.
(this got very long i apologise but I am very passionate about it hjgfkdls;a hope it all makes sense!)

In our entertainment ,wide distribution movies, shows, streaming services, and reading material; "Popular" opinion syndrome is what's happening here. Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts has also mentioned something about a belief system in a recent sermon I think this applies too.
The entertainment industry has cultivated belief and operating system and hand picked people obedient to the system.
Is it effective in continuing to ensure the system survives? It has been.
However massive problems are created because of it.
The biggest of many moving parts is a starving culture.
Here in lies the problem with our entertainment corporations farming for content. Yes, they get to interweave their objective and have control. And may have the upper hand in a way of wide spread distribution. But you know what it doesn't have? True substance.
Yes, there are ways for people to pour into the projects they work on, but it's not the same. And it's not the same from it's origin source. Especially if it is someone or something anointed by God.
Another negative thing is basically adding poison to your products. Adding things that are deliberately sinful in nature to children's or family entertainment is poison to the mind, heart, and spirit.
It eventually smothers the life out of people. It taints or takes their innocence. It twists their mind leading them to temptation at a young age. If you are leading people from that young down a path that leads to destruction... What do you think the progression is? What do you think happens to the mind and the heart along the way?
(Matthew 6:22-23- 22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!)(The entertainment you take in can have a big influence on you.)
Going back to the world's operating system for entertainment and hand picked people who are creating content.
Surrounding yourself with people who only have the same opinion as you or will always go along with "the plan"...
I'll give two examples I can think of why this is not the best, most effective, or most ingenuitive way to operate:
-If you are an eagle raised with chickens and you also believe you are a chicken.
Just ponder for a minute many the huge differences between an eagle and a chicken and their individual purposes.
Then take yourself or your creative ideas. How many more possibilities are there when you're not putting those restrictions on things?
-It's also like going "nose blind" to certain smells.
If you bring in someone fresh to the situation they're going to notice. Not only will they notice, but they may very well have an excellent solution or addition to the project.
It has become evident over time that these things have lost heart and substance. And I want to call out Disney on this one because I'm massively disappointed. I know I'm not the only one. So many people grew up loving all the stories and characters...the magic of imagination.
But it's not about that any more. It's about pushing the objective of some of these corrupted "leaders" and people who have some influence and power. Then you find some artists that are creating beautiful ground breaking stuff (where the real power and substance is) and you slap that packaging on twisted ideas.
I believe it is the promotion of these harmful ideas that your properties, movies, shows, and streaming services are dying. There's little to no life there and it's being replaced with darkness. I also believe for this reason that God is taking His hand off of things. He's taking His blessing from it because it's harmful and sinful.
The majority of people see it too and they don't agree with what you're trying to force. They don't agree that, that's what they want to see. That's also NOT what they want to show their children.

Why could you rant about the food on GoT?
Le sigh. Well okay, so I actually want to discuss this more in depth at a later time because there are many ways in which I have realized that Daenerys was actually an absolutely terrible queen, but the food situation in Westeros towards the end of the series is actually a perfect example of why Dany lost her quest for the Iron Throne before it even started.
Kay, so the OG’s Aegon, Rhaenys, and Visenya conquered all of Westeros with three dragons. So Daenerys literally already knows that she can win the Iron Throne with three dragons and absolutely nothing else. And by the time she’s set to invade Westeros, she 100% believes that her dragons are nearly indestructible and infallible, so there’s really no reason for her to bring her whole ass army to Westeros, and yet she does anyway.
It’s hard to say how big her army is at this point, but they make mention a few times that there are 100,000 Dothraki screamers, and that’s JUST the Dothraki. So it’s incredibly likely that Dany is invading Westeros IN WINTER with an army of OVER A HUNDRED THOUSAND PEOPLE. And this isn’t like a Westerosi army that’s made up of random citizens, this is an army of men who ONLY know how to fight. They can’t farm. They can’t build. They have no skills or ways to contribute to society besides making war.
It’s pretty much an accepted and known fact that when winter comes in Westeros, people are going to die no matter what. It’s to the point that it is even a part of the culture of the North for people to voluntarily kill themselves so as to not take up resources. So if her plan had gone off as she had initially envisioned, Daenerys Targaryen would have invaded Westeros with a force that is equal to the population of a city with no long term plans for their actual sustenance.
But it’s Dany, and her game plan is always to take what is hers with fire and blood. So if anyone is going to die when she and her army come to Westeros, it’s not going to be her and her army. So in theory, even if the Dothraki and Unsullied killed ZERO people in Westeros, their very presence means that an extra HUNDRED THOUSAND WESTEROSI are going to starve to death so that Dany’s army doesn’t have to. Dany doesn’t need them and the sudden stress of having another hundred thousand people in any one place would literally lead any city or country into almost immediate infrastructural collapse, but she wants them there and doesn’t even give a second thought to the fact that she’s going to kill a huge number of the people that she’s “liberating” for the sake of her having a massive and completely useless army in her presence at all times.
The show did a horrible job of portraying this at the time because they were just trying to set up Sansa and Dany as foils to one another and they wanted Dany to have a badass retort of “whatever they want” when Sansa questions the food situation, but that quip deadass killed any chance Dany ever had of staying queen of Westeros for long.
She’s literally sitting in the presence of the high lords of the North and the Vale, the two kingdoms hit hardest by any winter, and is straight up saying that she’s just going to take whatever she needs for her people to survive regardless of the fact that it’s a death sentence for thousands of the people there. In her mind she believes she’s here to save the North and she’s pissed that they’re not falling all over themselves to thank her, and at the very first moment that she actually addresses the lords of the North she LITERALLY tells them she does not give a fuck if they or their subjects live or die. The show completely underplayed what an absolutely HERCULEAN effort it must have taken Sansa to actually get enough food to keep the North alive through an entire winter, and not only does Daenerys disrespect Sansa’s effort, she makes it known that she will take whatever she wants regardless of the deadly consequences for the smallfolk.
Everyone saw that the starving people of King’s Landing nearly unseated Cersei from the throne, and the scale of food shortage that they were experiencing in that moment was barely a fraction of what would have happened if Dany had just invaded Westeros and stayed there with her army. Honestly she was a huge asshole for burning the food in the Reach but for real that would have barely made a dent in the damage that she was about to do to the food situation in the Seven Kingdoms, if she had literally just done exactly what she had planned down to the letter then she would have completely decimated the country without having to burn anyone or do anything besides exist with her army in Westeros.

I see stuff for "what would the Wammys kids be like as parents" but never "what would the Wammys kids parents be like" so here.
Wammys Kids Parents HCs
Mello
Mello's parents were in an arranged marriage because of the mafia families they were in
They actually really liked each other so they didn't mind the arranged marriage
They were actually in an arranged marriage because they were the oldest kids of two of the most powerful mafias in Russia and the leaders of those mobs wanted to join forces and did that by marrying their kids to each other
Mello's uncle didn't like how things were being run and broke the mafia in two and went to war with his brother (Mello's dad)
When Mello's parents realized they were going to have a kid they moved to England and put his aunt (on his Mother's side) in charge
Mello's parents kept him a secret to keep him safe
Mello has his dad's eyes and hair and his mother's complexion
He had both of their intelligence
Both of them were really smart and hella chaotic just like Mello
They cared for him as much as they could without look suspicious to their neighbors
When Mello was 4 they got found out by their rival mafia and were killed
Mello wondered off and ended up at Wammys house afterward
Mello's status as the heir to a massive mafia empire was how he rose to power in LA
Matt
Matt's mom got pregnant when she was 17
Her boyfriend left when he found out she was pregnant
She gave Matt away to her boyfriend's cousin because she didn't have the time or money to care for him because of college
Matt's named after his dad
His dad's cousin was super rich and had his own wife and tree bratty kids who didn't like Matt at all
The kids hated him so much they convinced their dad to get rid of Matt and they abandoned him in Winchester because he had family there
Matt's dad's cousin only took him in to look better than his ass of a cousin
Matt is the spitting image of his mother but has his dad's hair color
Matt's parents are still alive so technically he isn't an orphan
He has abandonment issues and separation anxiety from getting trown out so much though
His mom actually married and had some kids once she graduated and had a good job
She lowkey feels guilty for giving Matt away sometimes
Matt's dad is a hippy who lives in the back of his van and plays video games while coding for money
Matt probably has a fuck ton of half siblings from his dad being a man whore but it's not like he'll ever meet them
A
A's dad was an English sailor and his mom was a Spanish lighthouse keeper
They met in Spain and fell in love and went back to England to get married
His mom worked as a lighthouse keeper in Cornwall while his dad worked as a sailor
They had tree kids, A's older brother, A and A's little sister
A and his siblings spent most of their time with their mom but their dad spent all his time off from work with them
A's dad was very thinly built and honestly he looked like the basic anxious sad boy A with brown messy hair and freckles
Of course he was a sailor so he was actually pretty strong and hella brave
A's mom had dark skin, black curly hair and brown eyes with a much sturdier build
She was really sweet but was lowkey terrifying if you got on her bad side
A would be a perfect mix of both of them if he wasn't albino, but really aside from his lack of pigmentation he has a good mix of their facial features
A's dad taught A and his brother how to sail and took them on short sailing trips with him
He was going to take A's little sister when she was old enough but he died before he could
A's dad died at sea and only died because he stayed on the ship to make sure his whole crew got off when the ship sunk
A's mom taught him how to garden, fish, cook, camp, hunt and really live off the land in general
She died falling from her lighthouse in a bad storm
The fact that both A's parents died trying to help people inspired him to try and save people too
Which led to him trying to take up the position of L so he could solve cases and help people, which ultimately also led to his death
His brother became a Royal Navey admiral and his sister became a marine biologist later in life with A and their parents as their driving factors so at least that's nice
Beyond Birthday
B's parents were in a shinigami cult and technically B's dad is the shinigami Armona Justin Beyondormason but B never found out until his shinigami dad yoinked him out of Mu to tell him he's part shinigami and he forgot to tell him while he was alive (he didn't forget he just kept putting off until B fucking died) so we will discuss his leagal male guardian who died
B's parents owned a huge farm in Japan and taught B how to take care of animals and how to garden
A's mom had a personal garden of herbs and fruits and she used to teach B how to use herbal medicine and how to properly spice foods and most importantly how to make jam
B and his parents looked similar when he was little but he stopped looking like them when he got older
They all had slim builds, dark hair and pale skin and the only thing different was the eyes
B had shinigami eyes obviously and because he was part shinigami you could actually tell he had they eyes by looking at them
B could also turn them off (but he only acquired that skill later in life) and when he did his actual eye color was a dark brownish red
His eyes were also really wide like but not L wide just a bit less wide but still kinda weird
B's dad knew he wasn't B's real dad but he still tookcare of him and taught him things
B was homeschooled because 1. They wanted to indoctrinate him into their shinigami cult when he was young and 2. They didn't want the other kids or teachers commenting on his eyes
His dad was kinda boring and there wasn't anything cool about him, he was super average but he was good at farming and business I guess. Anyway if he had actually been B's dad I feel like B would also be really boring but more like the kind of boring of an abandoned building in the woods but there's nothing there and nothing cool or spooky happens
B's mom was way cooler, she taught B a bunch of old Japanese folk tales and legends and other cultural stuff. She also gave him plenty of history lessons about Japan and the surrounding area, really B just got educated on the entire history or Japan and it's culture and it fed his deep love and obsession with anime and manga when he was older
His mom's grandmother actually dressed up like a man Mulan style to fight in WW2 so he comes from a family of Japanese patriots so what would you expect
His mom taught him to defend himself too and she probably should have taught her husband because he died in a mugging
B's mom died in a freak train accident and B almost died but his shinigami ancestry have him a super human healing speed and endurance so he survived just barely
L
L's mom was a prostitute who got pregnant by one of her customers
She died of tuberculosis when L was six months old
She looked a lot like L with wild black hair, pale skin, no meat on her bones and wide, grey, eyes
L's dad was just some rich guy cheating on his wife and L looked nothing like him
L's mom lived with her brother above his bakery and L continued to love there until he was 6 and his uncle tried to kill him after getting drunk
Near
Near got put on the staircase of Wammys house in a basket when he was little so no one knew his parents
Near's parents were really weird hermits that owned a toy store and yes all their stuff was definitely cursed
They were both very quiet but they were actually pretty nice they just acted very strange
The both of them were black and Near dose have their body types and facial features and just like A, he looks a lot like both of them he just lacks pigmentation because he's albino
Unlike A he does have his parents grey eyes because Near doesn't have ocular albinism
They decided to leave Near on the door step of Wammys House because...?
They just did
For some reason they decided on an orphanage way away, it was probably some weird choice they made because I don't the the fog told them but hey they inadvertently caused the death of a mass murderer 18 years later
Near's parents are still alive and living in their little store and Near actually tracks them down after a bit and hangs out with them and buys their toys
Near's parents also have two more kids and Near likes to hang out with them and help you younger siblings in their classes

I'm here to talk to you again about the WLF. This time I'm more of focusing on their history and method.
Under the cut because there are a lot of pictures and words again.
Tumblr media
This is another shot of the farmland outside of their stadium base. I wanted to include this for two reasons: first, because I just think it is pretty, and second, because it's a pretty good representation of the WLF in Seattle. They are organized, they have their shit together, but the fight is always there in front of their eyes. When there is a truce there is still the work of clearing all those buildings of infected, or at least the ones they want to explore or use. When the truce is broken, they also have the Seraphites to deal with. The Seraphites who aren't afraid to place camps in their backyard, who aren't afraid to die for their prophet and the greater good.
Tumblr media
The first thing you need to understand about the WLF is that everything goes through Issac. He is the only known survivor of the original WLF leaders. He is also the man that came up with the strategy that allowed them to defeat FEDRA: total elimination of the enemy. Originally, the WLF's strategy seemed to focus on smuggling, distributing anti-FEDRA propaganda, making fake ration cards, and the occasional murder of a FEDRA officer. Once the original leaders of the WLF died, Issac took things even further. He increased the protests and the attacks on FEDRA units, culminating in a coup and the killing of anyone who still claimed loyalty to FEDRA. This also included seeking and and eliminating anyone who ever worked for FEDRA (sometimes even if they helped the WLF). His strategy was brutal, but it worked. The WLF took control of most of Seattle (except Scar Island) and all of FEDRA's checkpoints and resources. This made them the most well supplied group in the game, with thousands of potential soldiers at their disposal.
Here you can see him in his penthouse suite at the FOB. I made a post about this before, which you can see here.
Tumblr media
Here you can see a list of assignments for the WLF.
Issac picks squad leaders (but lets them assign patrol routes), he can banish people to far ends of the QZ as punishment, he can have anyone imprisoned or executed, he decides on their overall battle strategy, he is the one making the executive decisions.
Tumblr media
Issac is also the one that instilled an almost cultish mindset in the WLF. During the coup against FEDRA, he signed letters with "May your survival be long". That, and the reply "May your death be swift", tells you a lot about the culture of the WLF. They are super gung-ho, you can see that in many of the notes you find from people within the WLF. They often talk about their desire to go out in a "blaze of glory", that it is better to go out fighting than sitting at home. The enemy is anyone that stands in the way of the WLF, especially Scars.
It's actually a smart strategy if you want to motivate people to go out and kill. I wonder if Issac was former military himself, or at least a student of history and politics.
Tumblr media
As previously mentioned, the WLF took over all of the areas previously controlled by FEDRA. The biggest being the base at the Stadium, but all of the other outposts you see (the school, the hotel, the conference center), were all also former checkpoints for FEDRA. The walls, guard towers, weapons, vehicles, radios, and most of the infrastructure came from FEDRA. Anything they still use just had the word FEDRA removed and WLF was painted over it. However, sometimes you can still find signs and other things with FEDRA markings.
Above you can see an example of their rapid response strategy. They patrol areas they claim, but if there are reports of infected, trespassers or Scars, they have stations like this at their base and at the FOB so that they can quickly send out units to support. Their main means of getting around is via the highway (also seen in this picture) or the roads around it (there is a huge intersection for the highway that is directly next to their base and they seem to mostly control these roads). They also use the highway to cross the rapids.
Tumblr media
FEDRA had previously allowed people to remain in certain zones, which ended up being a major weakness for them as their forces and supplies were constantly stretched throughout the whole QZ. One of the main things the WLF changed was forcibly moving everyone to their main base, that way they could concentrate most of their supplies in one secure area. You can also see that they weren't that much different than FEDRA, killing anyone that did not obey their commands.
The biggest difference between the WLF and FEDRA is that the WLF were much more organized. Very brutal, but also very organized. Moving everyone to one place also allowed them to start farming on a much bigger level, removing one of the biggest reasons people complained about FEDRA (food shortages). It's not hard to see why so many people followed along with the WLF. At this point they had been living under military rule for at least 5 to 10 years, and they were faced with constant shortages of food and other supplies. Yes, the WLF were brutal, but they were like a better version of FEDRA. Why fight back when they can offer food AND security?
Tumblr media
Of course, that doesn't mean that the WLF didn't face resistance. You see one story of that when Ellie goes to Hillcrest. You also see that with the Seraphites, who become their main enemy after they have eliminated all other resistance within the QZ.
If you want to take a look a look at where the WLF are located and where they patrol, check out the Seattle maps here.
Tumblr media
The main FOB building you usually see (the one with the bigass sign) is a hotel where the soldiers stay when stationed at the FOB or in training). The building above is the part hotel, and part prison/torture chamber. The top level is also the one that Issac stays in.
The culture of the WLF is heavily militarized. They have ranks (there is at least one person who signs their name with the rank "Sgt.", he is one of the torturers at the FOB), they wear (presumably) old military gear, they are strict about following orders, and many of them are eager to fight. Outsiders, whether they are Seraphites, trespassers, or deserters, are dehumanized to the point where anything is permissible against them. Even torture, even genocide.
And that's it today for the WLF. Eventually I want to talk about the Seraphites strategy and their home, but that will have to wait. Once again, if you read all this you are my people.

Honest Hearts: A Rough Rewrite
Hey! I’ve been working on an Honest Hearts rewrite-type-thing for a bit and figured I’d solicit feedback/assemble a post to store some of these ideas.
A detailed explanation of the premise is under the cut, but I’ve made this as a more interesting reintroduction to major locations, along with the characters who live there. I also have some lore consisting of letters, scripture, and holotapes that’s still in the early stages, along with a complete companion wheel for Salt-Upon-Wounds (he’ll follow you around for a little if you decide to help him out). Endings are now finished as well. I’m not planning on expanding this into a full mod, but I’m assembling everything in Twine so I can utilize branching dialogue and mimic skill checks.
I want to keep adding to and editing this because I’m having fun with it, so if you have any input, let me know!
Essentially, the story proceeds as written up until the point where Daniel sends you to either kill the White Legs or destroy their war totems. You quickly realize that their camp is deserted, at which point Salt-Upon-Wounds ambushes you, convo-locks you, and tells you that there’s an entirely different side to things here that you might not have considered.
Factions
The Mormons have established a theocracy in the Utah called Deseret, with New Jerusalem - what was once Salt Lake City - as its capital. Large numbers of them survived the initial apocalypse due to their pre-War focus on strong community ties and disaster prepping; over time, they have returned to the model of self-sufficient agrarianism that characterized the historical Mormon state of Deseret that existed in Utah in the 1800s. Their President, who wields supreme executive power, is also their Prophet. The Mormons believe he communes directly with God, but there’s some discontent in New Jerusalem over his hands-off approach to foreign policy and unwillingness to assemble a standing army. The Elders of the Priesthood are pushing him to allow for some kind of formal military to oppose what they see as revived versions of their ancestral enemies: America, Rome, and the “Lamanites” (this is what Mormons call Indigenous Americans; the “Lamanite” idea has historically been used as a justification for racism, and I’m reflecting that here because it’d be kind of heinous not to). In more than a few respects, Deseret serves as a mirror to the Legion and an exploration of the other side of the coin re: the tactics utilized by colonial empires to present themselves as legitimate while still claiming territory and steamrolling the opposition.
The White Legs are now more explicitly Shoshone, and I’m relying most heavily on the Timpanagos Band for names and historical inspiration (apparently the question of whether they’re Ute or Shoshone is pretty controversial, but I’m sticking with what the Timpanagos have said about it until someone corrects me). After migrating south in the wake of the Great War, the White Legs eventually settled in Ogden, about a day north of New Jerusalem. Initial interactions with the Mormons were friendly, but as New Jerusalem grew and its need for farmland and resources increased, tensions rose before culminating in open violence in around ‘76 or ‘77. Deseret’s party line is that the White Legs conducted a “raid” on one of their settlements and had to be driven away from Ogden; the White Legs claim the violence was not a raid, but a revenge killing after a Mormon killed a young man and was found not guilty by Mormon legal authorities (this is a theocracy, so “legal authorities” here can be understood as indistinct from “the church”). The Mormons established a new settlement on the ruins of Ogden, which they called New Canaan, and the White Legs fled to Salt Lake, where they have been dwindling in number ever since. Salt-Upon-Wounds’ plan to seek entry to the Legion is a last-ditch attempt to save his people from eradication when their neighbors and the land itself seems intent on killing them (not that that makes all the war crimes ok, which is a sentiment you’ll be able to express to his face if you engage him in conversation).
The Dead Horses are a pastoral society from out of Dead Horse Point, and are split almost down the middle along political lines. The more conservative, religious side opposes intervention in Zion. Graham desecrates the corpses of his enemies as an intimidation tactic, and because the Dead Horses’ religion is so eschatological and heavily focused on properly cleaning, preparing, and interring the dead, a big chunk of the religious leadership opposes him on that basis - they think his tactics are ungodly. They’re also worried that any Dead Horses who die in Zion and are interred there will be severed from their connection to Dead Horse Point and doomed to a separate, lonely afterlife. The younger, more progressive elements of the tribe are less traditionalist, sometimes less religious, and overall not as concerned about Graham’s treatment of the dead because of the potential benefit they might be able to derive from him. Follows-Chalk is their de facto leader, and while the Dead Horses don’t formally allocate political power, he’s among the most influential people in the informal tribal leadership. Most of the Dead Horses who’ve come to Zion have done so either because they support Follows-Chalk politically, or for practical reasons - namely, Graham’s access to a dizzying number of guns and his willingness to give them to anyone who’ll fight for him.
The Sorrows are now a terrace-farming agrarian society instead of hunter-gatherers (Zion has a lot of agricultural potential, and there’s already a few farming plots in the Sorrows camp you see in-game, so it’s not a huge departure from the canon). I’m keeping their Mexican heritage, but I’d like to give them some Ainu influences as well - partially for selfish reasons, but also because bears are extremely important to our culture and theology, which gels well with the elements of Sorrows culture and religion that appear in the canon. I’d like to keep the Survivalist because I like him, but I want to expand on their faith. One of the ways I’m doing that is by deciding they can still read English, even though they no longer speak it; it’s basically their equivalent of liturgical Latin. They’re also rigidly matriarchal and in contrast to the Dead Horses (who eschew formal political hierarchies) or the White Legs (who elect a chief who serves until he dies, is deposed, or voluntarily abdicates), leadership positions are allocated through matrilineal primogeniture; Waking Cloud inherited her position from her mother. Religious leadership, likewise, is only available to women. You’ll be able to talk to Waking Cloud about some of the ways this framework is incompatible with the Mormon perspective, and can appeal to her desire to retain power.
Characters
Canon Characters
Joshua Graham and Daniel are largely unaltered except through the addition of lore that gives insight into their cultures, motives, and pasts.
All three tribal leaders (Follows-Chalk, Waking Cloud, and Salt-Upon-Wounds) are either given new backstories, a different set of motives, or different approaches to one another/Graham and Daniel. They’re also explicitly leaders now - what power Graham and Daniel have, they derive from whichever tribal leader they’ve managed to attach themselves to. Of those three, I’m altering Waking Cloud the least and Salt-Upon-Wounds the most. Like I mentioned, I have a companion wheel for him so far and the bones of two other conversations - one, where you meet him for the first time, and the second, where you speak to him before the final battle. Will link as I finish them.
Original Characters
Each tribal leader now has a rival or right hand within their tribe so I can reflect the different ways the values of a specific community can express themselves.
Follows-Chalk’s primary rival among the Dead Horses is a man who refuses to tell you his name. That’s because using someone’s name in casual conversation is considered unspeakably rude, and the fact that Follows-Chalk is willing to share his own with you is, to Mysteriously Named Old Man Character, yet another sign of how disrespectful and laissez-faire Follows-Chalk is about their shared traditions. Old Man Character is suspicious of you initially, but if you speak to him more he starts to warm to you. The goal is to give you a sense that this he’s pretty xenophobic but for good reasons, and despite his political conflicts with Follows-Chalk, has a lot of love for him. He just wants what’s best for his family, and Follows-Chalk is part of that, even if Mysteriously Named Old Man Character thinks he’s making the wrong choices.
Kiiki is Salt-Upon-Wounds’ right-hand woman and intended as a contrast re: the approach to war and its costs. Salt-Upon-Wounds has done some horrible things and gets a fair bit of dialogue about that, but Kiiki is willing to go even further than he has with very little prompting. Her chief copes with what he’s done by trying to assure himself that the ends of war are worth the cost; Kiiki deals with it by trying to convince herself that the means weren't so bad, actually, and that anyone who isn’t nailing corpses to walls is being naive. All of that makes her sound pretty shitty, but she’s nowhere near as devoted to the idea of a Legion alliance as Salt-Upon-Wounds is. It only takes one very low Speech check to convince her that going Legion is a bad move, and one of the paths involves assassinating Salt-Upon-Wounds and installing her as the new leader as a way to stop the White Legs from joining Caesar. I haven’t added this path to the ending Twine because I’d like to finish Kiiki’s dialogues before I do that.
I’m replacing White Bird as the Sorrow’s spiritual leader with a woman named Imekanu. She’s incredibly old, savvy, and knowledgeable - she’s never been outside Zion, but has a store of books in English, Spanish, and Japanese that have allowed her some insight into what caused the war, if not the current state of the world. She’s also aware of the Survivalist’s origins - not because she’s entered any of his hideouts, but because she’s read over the scriptures and has correctly identified them as letters. Her perspective is that the Father in the Caves was a human being, but that doesn’t diminish his religious value. She sees him as analogous to the Buddha or a Catholic saint: human, sure, but still with access to some deeper truths about the purpose of man and the nature of human goodness. You’ll discover that this idea (that the Survivalist was a holy man rather than a literal god) is the most common perspective among the Sorrows, and you can talk to her about how this departs from Daniel’s perspective that the archetypal Father is divine, not human.
Quests
Each tribe has a specific quest that will either lower or bypass some of the penultimate checks that will determine your ending (people are more likely to believe what you’re telling them if you’ve already won their trust).
The Dead Horses: Joshua Graham has been putting the heads of the fallen up on pikes across Zion. The Dead Horses’ religion is deeply concerned with proper treatment of the deceased, and Graham’s decision to desecrate the corpses of his enemies goes against virtually everything they believe. The old man who won’t tell you his name asks you to take the heads off of the pikes and bury them deep in Zion, and to bring Follows-Chalk with you so you’ll have someone to tell you how to treat them properly. Over the course of the quest, Follows-Chalk will share some of his own beliefs about death, and you’ll have the opportunity to share your own. If you complete this quest without sabotaging it, Follows-Chalk will be willing to betray Graham to the White Legs before the final battle.
The Sorrows: This is basically just Ghost of She, but after defeating the Yao Guai you’ll discover a holotape revealing that the girl wasn’t killed by the bear, but by one of the murderers from Vault 22. Waking Cloud will speculate that maybe the Yao Guai wasn’t the ghost of the little girl at all but some other force that wanted to push you to discover the truth. If you wait until the end to tell Waking Cloud about the death of her husband, you’ll have to pass a Speech check of 75 to convince her you’re telling her the truth; completing this quest drops the check to 50.
The White Legs: Salt-Upon-Wounds will ask you to help him sabotage the Mormons’ preparations for the battle. If you help him with this, it’ll drop the Speech check for you to convince him to leave from 100 to 80. It’s not necessary at all to get the tribal confederacy ending, but a new note will appear in your inventory if you finish it and meet a couple other requirements (asking him certain questions, not attempting that one Speech check about religion, etc).
Endings
I’m trying to incorporate as much variety as possible, but there are three main ending paths: siding with the White Legs, siding with the other two tribes, and peace. The basic idea is that the outcome is predicated less on your direct intervention, and more on how other people act based on the facts they have available to them. Most of your influence is through your choices to hide or reveal key pieces of information, and the skill checks you need to access certain endings are less you convincing a character to do something and more convincing a character to believe you’re telling them the truth. There’s one major exception to this, it requires maxed Speech, and the ending it gives you is markedly bittersweet because you’re trying to get a guy to act against his own best interest. I’m writing all the endings up here, and will probably edit them as things change. The post where I explain them in more depth can be found here.
And that’s the story so far! Thank you for reading, and again: if there’s anything here you think is poorly-conceived, let me know. Thank you to @baelpenrose, who’s a grad student in the history of the American West, for helping me workshop a lot of this stuff. If you’ve got expert knowledge on any of the concepts I touch on or are personally a member of any of the groups I’m describing, please feel free to hmu: anon is on, and you’re always welcome to DM me. I’m just doing this for fun, but I still want it to be as not-shit as possible.

bullet point summary of margo.
—   born margaret but NOBODY calls her that. its colby, coach or margo, and go to the privileged few. margo grew up in the creek commune n then dropped out of school cos of a teenage pregnancy so she was a bit of a cautionary tale back in’t’day (said tht in my yorkshire accent). she now works for summer camps coaching pee wee soccer and pee wee cheer, as well as helping out her beekeeper dad on his honey farm, which is jst north of abernathy creek, and working at scuba on the off seasons.
—  its just her and her dad, and has been for as long as she can recall !! everything she knows about her mum could fit on the back of the weathered passport photo she keeps in her wallet of a stranger who shares her face - her name’s melody, or at least tht was name she used when working as a dancer, she’s from argentina and dropped mag’s dad as soon as someone w more money came along.
—  margo’s father is a beekeeper with his own organic honey company. margo and her dad moved to irving in the early 00s, the summer between grade school and middle school, because her dad had heard about the communal living in abernathy creek and wanted to lend his skills there and live off the fatta the land in a very lenny from of mice and men kinda way.
—  for a few years of middle school margo was bullied for living with the ‘freaks from the creek’, but when they realised how chill her dad was with underage drinking, margo ‘keg-bringer’ colby soon gained popularity among the more renegade students. every so often, the high school parties would happen at her end of town, occasionally with members of the commune even offering the high schoolers a spiritual experience they’d never forget (often in the form of mushrooms) which meant people tried to stay on her good side. to get an invite to a margo colby party handed you a free pass to make up the most ridiculous shit about the commune you liked and nobody else could say anything, because they’d never been to the creek.
—  at school, margo had a lot of ‘behvioural issues’ bcos of undiagnosed adhd, she found it difficult to sit still for hours n write down huge chunks of information n her restlessness was seen as laziness. she was encouraged to do sports, as were most of the kids who weren’t that academically inclined, but she turned out to be pretty hot shit at sprinting, because she grew up surrounded by bee houses and he who runs slowest gets stung, baybeyy!! so yea, in school sports became her LIFE. she was gonna get a sports scholarship to college but ended up dropping out of school in senior year n becoming one of those kids who could have had it all but lost it.
—  she had sex with sutter at a house party when she wasnt really ready because it felt like the right thing to do at the time and everybody else was doing it. she’d attended health class, she’d seen the corny videos. she knew about all the statistics, but she also knew that it had never happened to anyone she knew and the pull out method was basically safer than the morning after pill and way less expensive.
—  a teenage pregnancy knocked her out of the runnings for prom queen and meant she had to leave school early. she didn’t go to college when her friends did, instead she spent the time interviewing potential foster candidates and eating her weight in lindt chocolate while marathoning love island in her room.
—  she had a son, who she passed off to someone else a couple of towns away.  it was a closed adoption which seemed like the best idea at the time, but she now wishes she had access to his life.
—  after peaking in high school and jumping between jobs for a few years, she got a more permanent role at scuba which she loves with all of her heart and soul, but unfortunately a bar job doesn’t pay the rent.
—  she works at summer camps coaching  junior soccer and netball on the side. she’s extremely competitive and takes it very personally if her team lose. the kids all call her, coach colby n write her longwinded letters about how they’ll never forget this summer camp before they go back to their suburban picket fence houses n she keeps all the letters in a drawer n takes them out to read when she’s feelin depressed.
—  enjoys surfing and worked for a number of years on resorts like mila kunis’ job in forgetting sarah marshall. she went on to work 18-hour days as a stewardess on luxury yachts which is a part of her backstory i added after watching season one of below deck because i guess i really am that fucking impressionable. met most of her surf friends doing tht but said she’d never in her life do it again bcos it was mostly just picking up after rich white ppl for shit pay. she came back to irving n thats when she started doing the summer camp jobs so she could move out of the creek n get her own apartment.
—  she never actually finished senior year so she’s currently going to night school at the community college to get through her exams and is trying to save to go to college or open university. she wants to major in criminology. she’s super ambitious but also super adhd so she fluctuates between thinking she can achieve anything to just feeling like a failure n thinkin whats the point
—  used to shoplift to feel joy and as an act of resistance to her hippy commune routes, but now sees herself as a reformed, bin-diving freegan (sims 4 eco living can i get a hell yaaaa). also she thinks it’s totally wrong to steal when you have enough money and clearly don’t need to steal to survive, ppl risk imprisonment for basic necessities, so for her to do it for a brief thrill and some new shades felt a bit derogatory
—  was raised jewish. became a vegetarian as a child because it seemed, at the time, easier than having to explain which foods she was and wasn’t allowed to eat together, so she just cut out meat entirely. still a vegetarian now and dabbles in veganism, although its become less about not eating certain meats in the milk of their mother and more about her global impact / carbon footprint
—  nurses little animals to health in her garden. has a hedgehog name OJ short for orange juice not the other one filthy pig. her and her dad have always been huge animal rights activists and existed on a vegetarian diet. the only one in their house who isn’t vegetarian is their cat, auggie. (short 4 augustus gloop)
—  has a lot of stupid ass stick and poke tattoos. there was a phase during her years as a barmaid where she wanted to train as a tattoo artist n would mostly practice on herself or any friends who would let her
—  she doesn’t form many long lasting friendships cos she tends to be super excited when she makes a new friend and just see them all the time but then it wears off and she can ghost a bit. she’ll always coming pinging back but she’s not the most predictable or loyal friend, sometimes she’ll sleep in your house every night for a week and then you won’t even get a text from her for a month. her best friends are elderly neighbours and houseless people she meets when volunteering at the foodbank. she thinks they’re more authentic than most of the ‘fake posers’ she meets down the vela pier
—  calls herself a butch lesbian but still has sex with men when she wants validation. sexually attracted to some men, especially effeminate men, but only romantically attracted to women. very possessive of the gals in her life.
—  stopped giving a shit about getting older or adhering to anyone elses bullshit standards, realised it was all fake p much as soon as she dropped out of school and one by one her friends just stopped texting her
—  lives in one of the lofts in port apartments. it’s open plan with rugs and lava lamps everywhere. she has a palette bed. its all very ‘sustainable chic’. like, oh wow, a pallet bed that im supposed to think you made from scratch but i KNOW you got it  off ebay because you thought it looked trendy
—  constantly says shes poor but still buys clothes from urban outfitters. sus.
—  frequently found at fannies flirting with the cute bisexual bartender with a choppy black bob.

hoo boy this is getting LONG AS FUCK but here are my wanted plots
wanted plots
ok margo’s been in irving since she was like 10. she’s quite a vivacious person?? she dresses completely instinctively without any sense of cohesion so she stands out. a guy once told her she was wearing the ugliest outfit he’d ever seen and he thought that was so cool and brave of her. but anyway where was i going.. she grew up in the abernathy creek so stuck out like a sore thumb,,,, maybe ppl who were super interested in the creek or maybe poked fun at her bcos of it idk.....
b4 she dropped out, margo used 2 b in with the cool kids at school bcos her dad would buy them booze and rarely ask for the money. maybe a fun plot cld b with some of the ‘it girls’ she used to hang around with b4 she got pregnant n dropped out and they all went off to college n stopped texting her.
frinds !! unlikely friends !! toxic friends !! some1 she feels like she knew before irving ???
since margo literally can’t differentiate between romantic and platonic love, she’s got off with so many of her mates, so i want awkward friendships where they nearly dated, or exes that have now just turned into weird friendships. fwbs. enemies with benefits. all the angst. all the slow burn mutual pining we hate each other narratives
locals who play sports. margo wld be all over community soccer n take it way too seriously. maybe ppl she plays hockey with. girls who she’s like, weirdly intimate with but its not a thing cos the other girls straight !!! what do u mean !! aha just fun !
she works part time at scuba. i want a mate that just goes and sits in there talking to her until her manager gets angry.
she's also a surf instructor and occasionally works as a lifeguard!! gal has like 7 jobs ik but regular swimmers hmu
ppl she coaches at the gym !! she wants to be a personal trainer
i reckon she might have recently started meditating to try and calm down her mind cos its always bustling with thoughts, n i think she’s p interested in buddhism so if anyone’s a buddhist hmu
someone she’s trying to make a zine with on female empowerment and women in film and art, etc. just a very feminist zine.
TLDR:  angry sports gay, former high school track prodigy turned drop out, who likes feminist literature, wearing leather jackets over slip dresses, and smudged red lipstick.
this was so long !!! im sorry !! if you’ve read this far have a biscuit, love x

oh yeah here comes the huge answer post! phew
First of all i’m really sorry but i have NO SCANNER and we’re in a strict lockdown, so all the places are closed anyway. The quality here is shit.
Y’all only asked two questions actually, and the first was ZONE FARMS. Is their produce good, do they grow much, would i eat it etc. I think i've already put some disclaimers about not having the qualification for this in my other posts, but yeah (question by @serpentski) Under cut: a lot of farming bullshit, some answers about Tommy Chow Mein and FINALLY SOME ART
Is their produce good? Yeah it is baby! Hydroponic vegetables are apparently very good when you know how to grow them, the things you need are WATER (which i kinda covered in private conversations), SEEDS and MINERAL BASE (the tricky part!) and POWER (which i tried to spin theories about for fucking ever, so). They're just as nutritious and much safer to eat, since if you've been reading the same resources on helium bomb aftermath as me - the problem is not the radiation you're thinking about.
It's decimated ozone layer, death of plant and animal life, years of dust storms followed by harsh solar radiation, acid rains that get you ground ozone and leeching heavy metals into soil... You name it, allright, i'm just writing it from memory. Make it less or more livable to your taste, but the point stands. No grain can stand this. Bye, corn, bye, rice. While there are some ways to make the soil outdoors worth using, most of them take an extreme amount of time and work. I'm sure that regardless of world situation someone here, in the zones, really tries to do their part in this.
Who runs it: it’s a more complicated question. The only cool answer i can give you that in addition to people working their ass off to make their community diet more healthy i wanted to add modified droids! I doubt they would be very mobile on homemade wind and sun batteries, but they don’t need mobility. Unexplored idea, you can keep it.
Would i eat it? If i were there - absolutely, catch me chewing on those greens every time i can get them. The issue is not the taste but the farmers skill and safety measures taken. Not only lettuce and tomatoes can be grown, but beans are pretty easy to get, which is already pretty great!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Main question that anyone asks: is there enough? Is it worth growing? Absolutely yes, but there's another thing i've mentioned before. While these greenhouse plants are their own tiny vitamin machines we tamed, they can't give us enough. Here comes the main star - algae! Last posts got energy and water covered, and that's basically everything you need to get a nice and easily digestible source of protein, oil, vitamins, some elements like iron etc! I even think they make plastics and fuel from it. The whole “diverse” food Batcity gets? Mostly a product of skilled processing and design. I’m sure zones get their share of it too by quite a few channels (i’m not ready to discuss it yet tbh).
Oh yeah and some algae farms are DEFINETELY controlled by zone people, the City isn’t that isolated, and even had chunks breaking off it sometimes.
Tumblr media
That brings me to the next question: anything on Tommy Chow Mein and/or trading in the zones.
This might feel too short compared to farming question but i thought long and. While a lot of people think of Tommy as someone who’s ideologically opposite to killjoys and closer to BLI...
My man Tommy has never set a foot in the City. He’s technically much further away from it than Dr D even, he comes from a deeply native part of the zones, old surviving outposts with their own traditions and ways. Wait there’s more. You know who’s culturally closer to Tommy in this way? That’s right - Fun fucking Ghoul, first name Ghoul, middle name Fucking!
Tumblr media
Tommy keeps a diary of a specific local sort - a series of old notebooks, with sheets of paper sewn and glued into them. The trick is to write about anything but yourself. I know it sounds like a mad max cliche but it’s not like he’s a History Keeper. These notes are supposed to be as personally neutral as possible, a report/tutorial you only come back to if absolutely needed. Ghoul was taught how to keep a diary like that, but something happened that made him stay off from writing. He can’t shake off this processing habit, so he doodles bits and pieces, couple of words here, some numbers there. Saves most of them, but gets embarrased and discards some when seen.
(I wish Girl inherited this one from Ghoul! That would be so rad but she was too small to pick it up + i don’t think she’s got the character)
Okay, back to Tommy, i’m keeping it short. First of all, he’s very much into old pre-war culture and media and his stereotypical businessman image is just that - reconstructed! He’s just a good old fashioned lover boy and has a soft spot for retro movies. Like, i’m sure he has more gold jewelry than his heavy earring - couple of rings, a chain - but that’s not luxury, that’s estethic comfort.
I think the man is a very grey moral character. Tommy has all he needs to fuck off and retire, probably even without a lot of angry armed customers on his tail. But it’s not who he is, he will make the wheels spinning until the very end, it’s the process, the job, the lifestyle. At the same time he does a lot of questionable things for the sake of his business. It’s just that being a BLI corporate pet isn’t one of them. Too tired to actually elaborate on the barter/trade process today, sorry
Random fact: try to enjoy your love for quiet music with these customers!

Walon Vau’s story
I decided to write out Walon Vau’s story, especially his home life and childhood. Why is Walon Vau the way he is? Read this and find out why.
Notes: I used my own headcanons mixed with the small details Karen Traviss gave us in the Republic Commando books. Please don’t steal this because you think it’s all hers!
Warnings: Bad childhood, abuse, child abuse, wounds, whipping, exile, royal drama, evil in the form of a man, thoughts of suicide, angst,
Let’s start this off with a little bit of planet information and backstory!
The planet Irmenu is a small ocean world, the only land masses being large rocky islands. Most seem like mountains, with dangerous cliffs leading into the cold unforgiving sea. The ocean is riddled with beasts and monsters, but the only way of life is to sail. There are some valleys for livestock or farming, but not many. The valleys usually flood anyways, the storms always ruthless. So the Irmenu people fish and sail, searching for months on end just to survive and feed their family.
Sailing is easy enough. The winds are strong and the seas rough. It’s cold year around, but the people have learned to adapt and survive. Wearing the fur of the air breathing sea beasts, making larger boats, etc.
The kingdoms are clusters of islands, not one large land mass. Many islands are in large clusters, huge oceans between each cluster. The islands are all under the rule of the religious leaders, but sometimes there is still conflict. Conflict never lasts long on Irmenu though.
This oceanic planet is in the Outer Rim, in the Belsmuth sector. Their planet is in the middle of the Crombach Nebula, which is extremely hazardous. This gives Irmenu a very good excuse to be so isolated. The leaders of the world use this to their advantage.
This planet is a Feudal world, which means it’s controlled by a strict religion that also runs the powerful military. This means his world is very close minded and far behind on certain technologies and such. They still have spaceships and holopads, yes, but they’re out of date and ancient.
The Imperius Priesthood runs the planet under very strict rules. They control what leaves and goes, along with who. They control the nobles and their money, using the Count’s as their marionettes. If you didn’t follow their rules/beliefs, you were either publicly executed, exiled, or sent to a nunnery. All depends on the situation.
They’re everywhere, spying on their people and arresting whoever they please. Being so strict and ruling by fear affected the Irmenu people terribly. Most were religious fanatics, which means religion dictates every single part of their lives. They read the Irmenu Bible over and over instead of other books, and they follow the rules like good puppets.
This planet is clearly terrible on it’s own, which only made Walon Vau’s childhood even worse.
Walon Vau was born around 79 BBY on the planet Irmenu. He was the first and only son of the Count of Gesl, who was also an admiral in the very large Irmenu navy. Walon was raised like any royal, so he didn’t have much of a childhood.
Every second of every day was planned out by his father. He was highly educated, classes every day of the week and all day long. He rarely saw his parents, and when he did it was never under good circumstances.
Walon learned proper etiquette, dancing, poetry, politics, and many other things he’d need to know for his future as a ruler. He was taught by a number of tutors, each brutal and cruel. He either learned, or was beaten.
Once he reached the age of ten he began to work harder, practicing and studying for the navy. He didn’t want to follow in his fathers footsteps, but Walon had no choice. Plus he loved sailing, the ocean was calming and vast. The navy was his only hope for a better life.
Pa Vau, Walon’s father was a harsh man. He was described as domineering, cold hearted, and unpleasable. He beat Walon when he didn’t do perfect on his lessons or training. He wanted Walon to be like him, so he tried to beat all emotion and feeling from his son. He almost succeeded.
A good ruler in Irmenu has no heart or soul in Pa’s eyes.
He would never hit Walon on the face or anywhere visible, he had to have a good face as a royal. As Walon got older the beatings became more often and more brutal, because he wasn’t doing good enough in Pa’s eyes.
When Walon was fourteen and tried out for the navy his own father rejected him, saying he was not good enough. Walon continued to train, the beatings even worse. The training didn’t help, Walon never made it into the navy. Pa was so unpleasable his only child was never good enough for him. This caused Walon to quickly lose hope, the thought of suicide seeming more appealing by the day.
Walon only ever got to see his mother at nights, when she would come clean up his bloody lashing marks and other wounds. She was a soft gentle woman, but timid. Pa beat her as well, making sure she didn’t see her son for too long. She was never allowed to see Walon alone, because Pa didn’t want Vau to go soft by a mothers love.
She was a religious fanatic just like his father, so she would lecture him as well. He had to be better, he had to. He was royalty, he was better than how he acted. Her words were often more cruel than intended.
When she finished cleaning his wounds she’d read him a chapter of the Irmenu Bible, a book Walon was forced to know every last word to. He never listened though, he would always zone out and dream of a better life…….Or even of ending his life.
His parents were never in love, their marriage arranged. His father married his mother because of her wealth and bloodline. His mother had rare golden eyes, a symbol of high status to his people. He got her eyes, but his father said that the color of his eyes meant nothing compared to how much of a failure he is.
When Walon turned sixteen he was at a ball for some religious holiday, where we meant a beautiful princess of a neighboring province. After a few dances they quickly hit it off, and grew close rather fast. She basically saved his life, keeping him from ending it once and for all. She also changed his future for the better.
He would sneak out as often as he could to meet her under the stars, but more often than not they wrote love letters on flimsy back and forth. Each letter, written with the finest penmanship and finest poetic words was kept by the princess. Walon kept hers as well, in a box under his bed.
When Walon was eighteen, he asked his father if he could marry the princess. His father and her father both rejected the marriage, along with the Priesthood. Not because of politics or religion, but because Walon was not good enough or worthy to marry such a beautiful woman.
His father was enraged that he had dared to ask such a question, so he was beaten worse than ever and nearly died. All because his father was embarrassed. When Walon healed a little he learned his love had been shipped away across the planet, to a nunnery. She would learn her lesson for sneaking out and falling in love with someone who was not of an arranged marriage.
He knew he’d never see her again.
Walon was exiled temporarily aftwards, being sent to some neighboring shit hole of a planet. He was eighteen and alone, with no idea of the outside world. His mother sobbed for days, her only child and her last hope gone. She prayed every night that he would be allowed back soon.
Luckily for Walon Vau, he used to sneak out to the large library every night to read books. They had no fiction books, so he just learned about other societies and their ways. Most books pointed out how “bad” they were, but Walon always thought they were so much better than his planet's society.
Thanks to reading, he knew a bit about the real galaxy.
Walon had nothing but the clothes on his back. He had no money or possessions. No title, no name. So he wandered.
Soon he ran into a group of Mandalorians, one by the name of Jaster Mereel. They quickly took in a teenage Walon, teaching him a new way. The way of the Mandalorian warriors. He never believed his home world's ludicrous ideas, so switching religions and cultures was very easy for Walon.
His family found out and disowned Walon for giving up his culture and religion. He lost his title and broke his mothers heart. His mother apparently died of a broken heart, after she heard the news that he would never return. But he knows deep down that his father finally snapped and killed her.
Walon became a perfect warrior, his body and mind already scarred from years and years of abuse. He was cold, calm, and calculated. Walon was also highly educated and very intelligent. So much so that some other Mandalorians taught him how to torture and dismember. He learned about the medical field and could have even been a doctor, but he preferred dead bodies and torturing.
Jedi could hardly sense him in the force, his soul too broken. He was a perfect Mandalorian Warrior, fighting along with his friend Jango Fett and many others for years.  He fought in the Mandalorian Civil Wars, killing Jedi with no issue.
Early in his time with the Mandalorians, Walon met a Strill. The Strill could sense Walon’s shattered soul and broken mind, so it adopted him. The Strill was named Lord Mirdalan, jokingly after his favorite uncle. The uncle that had beaten him the less, and had been executed when Walon was ten. Walon did not miss him, or anyone from his home world.
That’s Walon Vau’s childhood story. He’s ice cold, calm, and utterly detached for a reason. His body is scarred, as is his shattered soul. He was so traumatized and beaten down into the way of the soulless that he had a hard time trying to escape that pit.
He was cruel to his Clone Commandos, but every day he would be up all night thinking. He wanted them to survive the war, that's all he wanted. He didn’t want them to be failures like him, he couldn’t allow it. Failures never survived.
Walon Vau hardly ever sleeps at night, his mind plagued by nightmares. Not of the wars, but of his home life.
Mird held Vau together a little better, but his soul never healed. He could never escape the hole of his traumatic past, and it ruined his life forever.
They call him a psychopath but he really isn’t. Walon Vau can still feel, he just doesn’t know how to. Walon Vau is just a shattered and traumatized man, one who never got proper help. One who never had a childhood.
(Please reblog this if you like it! I worked very hard on it!)

GIA Task #01: July
If your character’s in a bad mood, do they prefer to be left alone or have someone try to cheer them up?
Ionna tends to prefer to be alone with Pingu, but even they admit that sometimes they need help processing or comfort. it’s hard to be upset when you have a fluffy dog giving kisses. Sometimes, though, you need to go for a run to cool off. Or you need a friend, some good cannolis, and some dumb movie.
How do they deal/have they dealt with conflict in their relationships with others, past or present?
It’s taken a lot of mishandled conflict for Ionna to learn not only her limits, but that others have them too. And sometimes you just have to feel what you’re going to feel before you can talk about it honestly. Her relationship with her parents is evidence of this.
When she was initially contemplating dropping nursing school, they fought pretty regularly. They were supposed to be setting an example, after all. And wasn’t she just so sure when she started? This was a huge commitment. What was the plan? Did she have one? Was she sure?
They only wanted the best for their child, but it initially felt like a personal slight to suddenly reject such a significant investment.
Ionna felt betrayed by their disappointment.
It was weeks before everything was outlined properly. They decided to present a business plan, a draft of the one she was intending to use for her applications for licensure and permits. The family was able to talk it out properly at that point, and move on, but it took work.
Who or what is your character currently proudest of? Why?
Ionna’s pretty proud of herself. She had a dream and she built it and while it doesn’t always thrive, it is surviving. And she gets to run her business her way, and has the support to do the parts that she wants to do the most. Supposedly, it’s the american dream.
Explain why your character has moved to/stayed in NYC?
She got familiar with the city initially when she started doing her internships with non-profits and charities in between semesters of college. There was (and is) so much need, and while they know there’s need everywhere, they had the connections there to start building their dream of running a point of contact for resources and help out of a bar.
Was it crazy? Absolutely.
Would she do it differently? Absolutely not.
If your character was having a bad day, which of these would they prefer as a means to cheer them up? Their favorite dish, a massage, or some space?
Food. Hands down. No question. Ionna loves food. And wine. But mostly food. Her family was pretty quick to instill that particular love. Family dinners. All-out feasts for holidays and festivals whenever possible. Teaching the basics of cooking at a young age.
Her grandma’s spanakopita is one of the best savory comfort foods.
There’s a section of the menu dedicated to Greek cuisine that’s often designed by Ionna, and like most of the menu, is adjusted seasonally to compensate for the local farms and business support.
What usually jump starts their day? Coffee? Exercise? A Shower? Breakfast? Or something else entirely?
Pingu decides how and, often, when the morning starts. Morning walkies is sometimes morning joggies. And then a shower, unless it’s a gym day.
Does your character thrive in order or chaos?
They eat most flavours of chaos for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but even they have their limits. They’re very grateful for their office staff who tend to handle the Order of the bar a bit better.
Would your character say that their parents were/are good at being parents?
Their late twenties into their thirties came with a certain change of perspective. Her parents were definitely parents. Sometimes their choices sucked, but their hearts were in the right places and they never meant any harm. They weren’t bad, but they definitely had the practice to deal with her baby sister and have, in Ionna’s mind, done a lot better in some respects.
What scares your character the most?
After losing her bar? Internally? Being alone. Or having to face hardship alone. They put so much of themselves out into the world that the worst feeling in the world would be to not have anyone there when they need someone most.
What did the last relationship your character was in teach them?
If they make repeated, passive aggressive comments about your profession, it probably runs as a deeper problem and they can either figure it out and get over it, or it’s time to move on. It’s just not worth the time wasted combating their negative fixation on something that’s a core part of her life.
If your character could choose 1 superpower, what would it be and why?
I think she’d want to be super fast. Or the ability to read minds.
What’s something people often misunderstand about your character?
Socially, she’s very awkward without meaning to be, and it’s not really because she’s poorly practiced or anything in particular. They have just ended up three or four steps ahead in the conversation (in her head), and assume the other person has managed to stay on the same page when they’re two and a half pages behind because that’s how time and conversations work.
What is something your character tends to procrastinate on?
Paperwork. It’s boring. It’s not pointless but it feels obvious. It’s necessary. But it’s still boring to such a degree it should be a sin. Ionna doesn’t know what to do when all of her office staff end up having vacations or emergencies all at the same time.
Well. She does. She just hates doing it so it takes three times as long as it really should.
Where does your character like to go/what does your character like to do for inspiration?
When she’s working on menus, they tend to throw “parties.” They are less party and more test bed for future food or drink items. But the guests don’t necessarily know that. It does mean they tend to happen more at season change time once she knows what fresh produce will be available.
There’s always a big spread of lunch and dinner samples, and she tends the bar herself on the condition that it’s dealer’s choice on the drink.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.
They still haven’t gotten the mulled pumpkin spice mead to work out properly and haven’t figured out why.
Does your character usually follow their head or their heart?
They lean pretty heavily on their heart to start, but the head does catch up to what’s going on eventually and evens the keel.
Who or what brings your character the most joy in their life today?
Pingu for a who, though Calliope is always a delight to be around. Who condensed sunshine and infused it with that girl?
She also really loves it when a client who’s been referred to support services comes back to visit in a better position than when they’d initially stumbled into their bar. It’s not necessarily a reminder of why they do what they do, but it does bolster their resolve to keep going.
Does your character have a hero or someone they admire or look up to? If so, who and why?
With the perspective of proper adulthood, Ionna’s really come around to admiring her parents. They’ve worked really hard to build what they have, and they didn’t succumb to the desire to continue expanding and end up over-stretching themselves. They decided what they were going to do and how much they wanted to put into it and what they wanted out of it, and then they didn’t give in to the pull to do more than that.
From a business owner perspective, that seems like such an easy trap to fall into. Ionna does want to keep expanding the supports available, yes, but she doesn’t want to fall into the trap of having multiple locations for the sake of profit. That’s not what she’s here for. She’s here to help, to be a safe place for folks to have a good time, and to treat her employees well.
Is your character much of a reader? If so, what author(s) do they like?
They’re less for literature and more for recipe books. But books, not necessarily websites with inane blog posts that drone on for twelve paragraphs too long. Other how-tos are also appreciated, since they like to at least try and do things on their own.
Does your character like surprises? How do they tend to react to surprises?
Ionna likes nice surprises. Less so surprises from Pingu since those are often smelly, if few and far between.
Gifts are pretty important to them, for a lot of occasions. It’s not necessarily common in American culture, so whenever anyone remembers it’s a joy and tends to leave her impressed for a good while afterward.
Is there anything that your character collects? If so, what is it/what are they?
They have a sizeable collection of corks from favoured bottles of wine or bottles from special occasions. Eventually they want to turn it into a table, but they don’t have enough yet.
