Cilla Black first encountered The Beatles at Liverpool’s Cavern Club. She was a singer, and Lennon invited her to join the band onstage. She ran into The Beatles often. When she saw them, she hated being left alone with Lennon. He made her incredibly nervous.

“I remember I used to be dead scared of John, although he was the one who had helped me most,” she said. “He had this aura of superintelligence. I hated being left alone to speak to him. Once he said: ‘What’s wrong with you, girl? Don’t you like me?'”

“I confessed: ‘I’m frightened of you, John.’ He roared with laughter: ‘And I thought you were a snob!’ After that we often talked.”

Cilla changed her opinion of John due to how much he helped her career. He was the one who encouraged her to join The Beatles onstage. He’d also insisted that Epstein listen to her perform and consider signing her.

“Paul was at the recording session when I made Anyone Who Had A Heart,” she said “He said that he liked the composition and he and John would try to produce something similar. Well they came up with this new number, but for my money it’s nothing like the ‘Anyone’ composition.”

It's interesting that Paul and John's inspiration for "It's For You" was "Anyone Who Had a Heart." Lyrically Anyone Who Had a Heart

"Anyone who ever loved could look at me And know that I love you Anyone who ever dreamed could look at me And know I dream of you Knowing I love you so"

reminds me more of "I've got a feeling, a feeling I can't hide".

During the filming of "The Music of Lennon & Mccartney" in 1965 Cilla recalled: “I had to walk down the stairs, miming to the song, while the boys sat at the bottom, looking up at me.

“As I walked past, John whispered: ‘Great! No knickers!’ I reeled backwards, hand to my mouth, and couldn’t wait to get back to the dressing-room to check he was joking.”

Sat down, read Bambi (the book that inspired the movie). Not especially impressed, would very much recommend Watership Down over it if you're looking for talking animal xenofiction that takes a more naturalistic approach. Watership Down is more fantastical, but also less preachy and, I'll be honest, better written.

absolutely darkly funny that we had stuff out like the boys absolutely going full on with homelander going off at vought and people just absorbing this right wing rhetoric as if it somehow wins them freedom to fight against the 'real evil' and stranger things season 4 displaying a whole allegory about mental illness and trauma with vecna and getting passionate about how bullying victims get drowned out and when they lash out they get seen as the bad guys; and yet around the same time millions of people full on ambushed and harassed an abuse victim because of a social media campaign that gave them access to this shit and led by an abusive monster of an ex who literally said he wanted absolute global humiliation of her so she could never properly live and work again whilst he profits off of it.

like,, it really is surface level, huh? we go on and on dissecting the satires and parodies of modern society and how fascism and capitalism hand in hand has been able to brainwash people,, we have to listen to how much society 'cares' about mental health even though if you have anything 'inconvenient' or 'ugly' or 'dangerous' nobody gives two shits and blames you instead but of course history fucking repeats itself and with no self-awareness so many people exemplify these fucking tropes in these mockeries of modern society like,, people,, you are LITERALLY these walking parodies and these bullies. you can yell about fighting back and then turn around and attack those who need your help and are vulnerable as hell. how many times can we make these points if nobody fucking listens??

though i guess people learn to justify themselves as good people by saying they're only attacking the people that 'deserve it' even though they get the majority of their information from social media and massive misinformation campaigns and that we gotta abuse and kick someone down constantly if they do any perceived fuck-ups. how long before we decide we don't unquestionably believe what other people, ESPECIALLY those with a clear corporate or profitable agenda because for some reason so many people are still believing the shittiest things in the shittiest newspapers as if we have any reason to believe the government is truly having our best interests at heart.

This is a leaked demo from June 1964 of "It's For You", a Lennon/Mccartney composition for Cilla Black. After the demo was unearthed only this short snippet has thus appeared online. Wish the person who has it (the person who bought it for 17000 pounds ;) would share the whole thing, it sounds absolutely wonderful with Paul! Cilla's version on Youtube includes a cute intro from John.
