Overheid verliest oorlog tegen ivermectine: ‘Een overwinning voor iedere arts en patiënt’

De Amerikaanse medicijnautoriteit FDA moet berichten op sociale media en internetpagina’s weghalen waarin mensen worden opgeroepen om te stoppen met het nemen van ivermectine tegen COVID-19. Dat blijkt uit een schikking die het agentschap heeft getroffen.

De FDA heeft al een pagina verwijderd waarop stond: ‘Moet ik ivermectine nemen om COVID-19 te behandelen of voorkomen? Nee’.

Binnen enkele dagen verwijdert de FDA ook een andere pagina getiteld ‘Waarom je ivermectine niet moet gebruiken om COVID-19 te behandelen of te voorkomen’.

Populairste tweet ooit

Op die pagina valt ook te lezen dat data niet aantonen dat ivermectine effectief is tegen COVID-19, terwijl uit sommige studies blijkt dat het middel effectief is tegen de ziekte, schrijft de krant The Epoch Times.

De FDA moet ook meerdere berichten van sociale media verwijderen waarin het agentschap zich uitspreekt tegen het gebruik van ivermectine, waaronder een bericht waarin staat: ‘Je bent geen paard. Je bent geen koe. Hou op, schei uit’.

De zaak tegen de medicijnautoriteit van de overheid is aangespannen door een aantal artsen. “De FDA verliest zijn oorlog tegen ivermectine en stemt ermee in om alle berichten op sociale media en consumentenrichtlijnen met betrekking tot ivermectine en COVID te verwijderen, waaronder de populairste tweet van de FDA ooit,” zegt Mary Talley Bowden, één van de artsen, in een verklaring.

Belangrijk precedent

“Deze zaak schept een belangrijk precedent bij het beperken van de te grote invloed van de FDA op de arts-patiëntrelatie,” voegt ze toe.

“Wij zijn zeer verheugd over de uitkomst,” zegt Paul Marik, een andere arts. Hij spreekt van een overwinning voor iedere arts en patiënt in de Verenigde Staten.

We zullen nooit weten hoeveel levens getroffen zijn omdat patiënten geen toegang hadden tot een levensreddende behandeling omdat hun arts ‘de FDA volgde’, vervolgt Marik.

Boekje te buiten

Bowden en twee andere artsen, Marik en Robert Apter, hebben de FDA voor de rechter gesleept omdat zij van mening zijn dat het agentschap zijn boekje te buiten is gegaan.

In Nederland kregen artsen die ivermectine off-label voorschreven aan coronapatiënten hoge boetes opgelegd. Inmiddels zijn enkele van die boetes vernietigd.

“De FDA heeft de strijd tegen ivermectine verloren! Het demoniseren en diskwalificeren van het middel bleek ongegronde propaganda,” reageert medisch adviseur Wendy Mittemeijer.
