Bamboo success...

After the last few disastrous seasons for our bamboo forest, we've managed to protect a number of the new growths, and some of the faster ones have now started to shed their furry outer layers. This is a good sign, as it shows the new growth is well on it's way to their maximum height.

The hard woody exterior is now also less attractive to the pesky monkeys, and also more resilient to the winds.

The afterwards of this comic

The pre-cursor to Raph meeting Mrs. Morrison (I have more sketches of it but most of them are just outlines of text)

I decided to add a Battle Nexus arc in which Renet teleports them to a dimension, but then the Dimension Scepter dies so they’re stuck there for who knows how long. The turtles get arrested, but then a very professional woman interested in making dealy-doos (that she will most likely change the terms of at the last second) pays them out on the condition that they fight in her Battle Nexus Arena. The boys meet a whole bunch of people from other dimensions(Usagi) and even some from their own(Traximus). The specific picture I gave is designs for Usagi. Leo has not had enough time to recover from his fight with Shredder mentally and, during is fight with Usagi, breaks down in an episode and goes psycho.

The Banned for Life posters on the bulletin boards at April’s school. The boys will live on through that school’s history as those random Japanese boys straight out of a J-pop band that wreaked havoc on the school for all of 20 minutes then disappeared, never to be seen again.

Hamamoto Yoshi/Splinter Ref

Rural Au Masterpost | Raph | Donnie | Leo | Mikey

I've already rambled about him a LOT, but here's a basic overview of Splinter in this au:

At the start of the au (1932), he is 30 years old and recently widowed. He decides to move to the countryside to live in his family's old farmhouse and finds 4 strange turtles there. He has a similar personality to Splinter from Rise, but is a lot more softspoke. He isn't present a lot in the boys' teenage years due to being called to duty. He's a commander in the Japanese Navy ( was one of the youngest before he moved ot the countryside) and is usually on the water.

He has never worn his full uniform around his sons and they only vaguely know about his job - they know he's a sailor but aren't really sure of specifics. He does send them letters and stuff and breifly explains where he's going when he leaves, but the truth isn't revealed to them fully until later.

He does not become a rat at any point, and I'm saying it here so no one tries to correct me, but his surname in this is Hamamoto, not Hamato. For the time period and the accuracy of the au I researched surnames that would better match this au <3 (not intended rudely, just being clear about it)

I'll add more later if needed, but that's Splinter!

10 Leonardo Headcanons

He has a problem when it comes to candy and other sweets. In short it’s a sugar addiction. If he eats the littlest bit of sugar, Leo becomes obsessed and will got on a sugar high. His brothers always have to hide candy from him when there’s some in the lair because it has gotten bad over the years. His main obsession is with chocolate.

He has a secret journal (his brothers call it his diary) where he writes his inner thoughts and feelings. He keeps it in his room under his mattress. One day, Mikey was nosey curious and wanted to look through Leo’s journal (totally not to learn dirty secrets he could use for new prank ideas) but he discovered that everything is written in Japanese. It’s Leo little way to truly make sure no one can read his personal stuff.

He has a passion and love for gardening. When living at the farmhouse, Leo passed the time by growing herbs and flowers in the O'Neil's mini garden in their backyard. His favorite flower is the lotus blossom.

Despite being named after the great Leonardo Da Vinci, Leo himself is a terrible artist and cannot draw even if his life depended on it.

Though he's a terrible artist, he makes up for it in his writing. He is a talented writer. He enjoys writing and reading poems, haikus, etc.

He also writes Spaceheroes fanfiction. Specifically Captain Ryan x Reader fanfiction, and they are very popular within the fandom.

His favorite form of humor/comedy is dad jokes and bad puns.

He has a secret passion and talent in ballet. He secretly practices in the dojo late at night, it helps him perfect is balance and flexibility.

He's a closeted bisexual. His Bi awakening was Captain Ryan and even had a crush on Casey for a short time (mostly during season 3). The only person who was able to figure out/tell that Leo is bi was Shini, cause she has an excellent gaydar.

However, because Leo’s first shot at romance failed miserably and was even traumatic for him (first woman he ever loved, turned out to be his sister) Leo now has a hard time opening his heart at any opportunity for romance. In his adult life he’ll eventually swear off dating and basically take a vow of celibacy, putting all of his time and focus on running and leading the Hamato Clan instead of socializing and dating.

This 1949 home in Columbia, Tennessee has a definite vibe goin' - it's surprisingly moody, neo-gothic, rustic, modern farmhouse, with a bit of tropical & Japanese tea room thrown in. 5bds, 5ba, $920K.

Check it out- Black walls and ceiling with bright yellow buffalo checked sofa and striped curtains. (I'm down w/the striped curtains, but not the buffalo checks- too country.)

Then, at the other end of the room, the vibe changes. There's an old stone fireplace and more moody furnishings.

The kitchen is a modern farmhouse gray with a hint of industrial. From here, you can see a bright cheery turquoise sunroom.

On the other end, you see the front door w/the yellow drapes to the left. They've got an old farm table against a sofa behind the modern kitchen counter. (This is some mix.)

In the sunroom is a dining table with a geometric pattern, plus a wall of floral wallpaper with a sofa upholstered in Asian Chinoiserie. (And, a rustic chest coffee table.)

The black & white guest powder room features wallpaper with flying cranes.

Dark bedroom with yellow gingham curtains and a gossip curtain.

Modern reno'd bath in deep gray.

Small home office with a combo of knotty pine and charcoal walls.

Reno'd bath is white and pale gray.

The turquoise primary bedroom has an English vibe with a leopard accent wall.

Remodeled en-suite has a modern look with a tropical accent wall.

Finished basement rec room is a hodgepodge with a modern sink & cabinetry.

There's a lovely patio and garden in the back.

The grounds are surprisingly beautiful.

Usagi lamp

The painter contracted to paint our new window framing, kindly gave us a gift today - a cast iron and paper lamp. The usagi and moon motif is just gorgeous, and of course suited to our usagi minka.

Me: Wow! I knew that the Japanese sometimes did things like this but this is the first time I am hearing that English people also did this!

Them: Earnshaws did. How do you think the Earnshaw male line survived and occupied the same farmhouse for three hundred years?

Me: I see. Then Mr. Earnshaw empathizes with Heathcliff because they are in a similar situation. Like how Heathcliff later empathizes with Hareton for similar reasons. A parallel, I like it!

Them: Not quite.

Me: How?

Them: You see, one day in a particularly heated argument Mrs. Earnshaw insulted Mr. Earnshaw by saying that he is a freeloader and that they are living in her house, not his. Mrs. Earnshaw immediately apologized but Mr. Earnshaw’s heart was already broken and he colded towards his wife. Soon afterwards their little second son Heathcliff died. Mr. Earnshaw went away in grief and struck up an affair with a random Romani woman.

Me: A weird thing to do after your son’s death! But I guess I shouldn’t judge how people process their grief.

Them: Yes. Soon he tired of this Romani woman and broke up with her, but she was already pregnant and she gave birth. In dying seven years later she entrusted their son to Mr. Earnshaw’s keeping.

Me: …And Mr. Earnshaw named the boy Heathcliff! That was a cruel thing to do to his wife, naming his bastard son after their dead baby. Mr. Earnshaw is more vengeful than Heathcliff I would say! But I still don’t get why he preferred this boy to Hindley and Cathy.

Them: You see, Hindley and Cathy were considered true-born Earnshaws and were raised in privilege. Mr. Earnshaw couldn’t connect with them. Whereas he thought of Heathcliff as his son.

Me: A weird sort of logic but I think I get it. How much of a role had Heathcliff’s mother played in this? Did Mr. Earnshaw love her?

Them: What love??! Of course he loved Mrs. Earnshaw! Not the Romani woman! The Romani woman was just a way for Mr. Earnshaw to process the grief caused by Mrs. Earnshaw’s words and by their son’s death.

Me: Your heated reaction to my question is extreme and I think a bit racist. Are you in denial about Mr. Earnshaw loving the Romani woman more?

Them: I won’t entertain this line of questioning. You are losing the sight of more important things.

Me: Like incest between Heathcliff and Cathy and this all ruining the motives of Heathcliff’s revenge?

Them: No! Like how Mr. Earnshaw and Heathcliff’s relationship mirrors Heathcliff and Hareton’s relationship.

Me: But I already remarked on this parallel at the beginning of the conversation?

Them: Okay, now write an essay about it.

Me: I still think that you are in denial about Mr. Earnshaw loving the Romani woman more.

Books that I’ve read recently and would recommend. 🖤 Part 2

A Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson. A reimagining of Dracula’s brides, written in letters to Dracula from his first wife, Constanta. I love anything vampire-related and can’t even describe how much I loved this book.

A God in the Shed by J. -F. Dubeau. A fantastic horror novel set in a messed up little town. A murder investigation, a serial killer, a god trapped in a shed (literally), the occult, ancient evils, blood and gore, and lots of twists and turns.

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang. A historical/grimdark fantasy novel heavily inspired by the Second Sino-Japanese war. Very violent and graphic, but an amazing read.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix. A fun 80s demon possession story set during the satanic panic. A teen girl drops acid, gets lost in the woods, and accidentally gets possessed by a demon — and it’s up to her friend to save her. Gorey and campy.

Maggie’s Grave by David Sodergren. A pregnant woman, falsely accused of being a witch and brutally murdered, takes revenge on a Scottish town centuries later. Fun, fast-paced folk horror meets splatterpunk with an endless amount of gore.

The Island by Adrian McKinty. A tense, fast-paced thriller set in in an island off of the coast of Australia. This book genuinely stressed me out and made me want to bite my nails, but I couldn’t put it down. A bit of Wolf Creek vibes.

Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury. A ghost story and psychological horror with dual timelines. Family drama, a haunted house, toxic parents, etc.

Never Lie by Freida McFadden. A psychological thriller with a great twist. When their realtor doesn’t show up, newlyweds take shelter from a blizzard in a manor that belongs to a missing psychiatrist.

Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim. This book and the world within it makes my heart flutter. A dreamy, whimsical fairy tale blended with East Asian folklore.

The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf. An atmospheric mystery/thriller. A writer travels to an isolated farmhouse where two unsolved murders and the disappearance of a girl took place decades earlier, and plans to finish her book while snowed in. Things go down hill after she finds a young child outside and decides to bring him in from the cold.

Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati. A retelling of Greek mythology, and such a beautiful and heartbreaking book.

A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon. A a high fantasy novel and standalone prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree. Amazing world building, amazing writing, amazing characters, and dragons.

Ring by Koji Suzuki. I’ve always loved the films, both Ringu and The Ring, but I’ve never read the book until now and I highly recommend it if you haven’t either.
