JatP Fanworks Appreciation Week
In honor of JatP’s six month anniversary, I thought we could do a wee fanworks appreciation week (starting today, the 8th of March) to celebrate the creators and fans, and all the amazing stuff we’ve done together over the past six months.
Each day has a theme—you can click the links below to find details. The links I found were a bit fic-centric, but definitely expand your love to celebrate our amazing gif makers, artists, headcanon scholars, etc.
Motivation Monday
Trivia Tuesday
Work-in-Progress Wednesday
Thirsty Thursday
Fic Back Friday
Spotlight Saturday
Six Word Sunday
None of it is super time-consuming, and there’s absolutely no pressure to participate every day, or any day. It’s just a nice wee way of celebrating each other and showing appreciation for this fandom!
I’ll be reblogging the info posts for each day of the week, and tagging stuff as #jatp fanworks appreciation week, and I hope some of you join me in sharing the love and hyping each other up!

there’s one thing on my mind (it’s all for you)
i didn’t have a wip for jatp fanworks appreciation week, so i made one?? but i got too into it and finished it in a few hours. thanks to @ourstarscollided for sending in the incredible prompt that led to this fic!!
home didn't seem like home anymore for luke patterson, and so he was desperate to find a new place to write music. after an especially brutal fight with his mother, he finds himself in front of l.a. books. he isn't expecting to get much out of it, it was solely a last resort. but then he sees her, julie molina, and he ends up coming back every week just to keep seeing her.
bookstore au
masterlist
If three years ago, someone were to tell Luke, he would actively be spending his Friday night in a small, but cozy book store, he would have laughed in their face.
He was a rockstar. If he wasn't jamming it out at some club with his boys, he was doing something wrong.
But life didn't always work out in his favour, and it wasn't long before he decided he couldn't write out of his home anymore. Home. Sometimes the mere word made him laugh. Home was supposed to be warm, welcoming and loving, and he felt none of those things every time he walked through the front door. It was starting to take a toll on him. Not only on his mental health, but also in his creative abilities. The songs he was writing in his bedroom had taken a dark turn, so dark they felt more like a cry for help than anything else.
So, he decided it was time to find another place to write songs; somewhere that could get his creative juices flowing. When Reggie first suggested this bookstore on the corner of Madison, Luke pinched his brows, not understanding how that was a viable solution. Reggie defended his suggestion by saying bookstores were quiet and he would be surrounded by millions of words of inspiration.
Luke never took Reggie's suggestion until one brutal fight with his mom left him pulling at his hair, desperate to leave the house. He would go anywhere at this point, but his fingers were itching to grab his pencil and book; there was so much he just needed to get out onto paper. If he didn't, he would explode. So, he grabbed his song book, a few pencils and stuffed everything into his backpack before he hopped out his window. At first, he just started walking to nowhere in particular. In the back of his mind, he was intending to drop by Alex's, but instead he found himself standing in front of L.A. Books.
He walked in with the intention of taking one quick walk around and most likely walking right back out. He was pissed off at the world and he didn't think Shakespeare would solve his issue.
But then he saw her.
She was stocking a book shelf, putting up new books as far as he could tell. Her curls kept getting in way of her vision and she was continuously tucking them behind her ears. He could only see the side of her face at this point, but when she was approached by a younger girl to help locate a book, Luke quite literally forgot how to breathe. She was stunning in every which way; her soft smile to the young girl made an unconscious smile spread over his own lips. There was no specific thing about her that drew him to her, but for some reason, he was rooted to the floor. Even when she started moving in his direction, leading the girl to a new section, he couldn't even move just enough to grab a book and look like he wasn't creepily stalking her.
But she only sent him a warm smile as she walked by.
So, maybe Reggie wasn't so wrong about this place after all.
After that, Luke found himself stopping by at least once a week, maybe twice if things at home were really bad. It was a quiet establishment for the most part, and Luke found a corner table that was perfect for his writing. He knew his song writing was starting to take a hit; he knew that. But since he started writing in the bookstore, an obvious shift was clear in the words he scribbled down.
Even the boys noticed.
"What the hell is this?" Alex had demanded one late night after Luke handed him his songbook so he could filter through it. They'd mostly been playing their old originals while Luke worked on some new stuff, and he was finally starting to share.
Luke frowned, biting his lip nervously. "What? Is it that bad?"
"Reg, look at this," Alex ignored Luke, reaching over to show the other brunette. "When were you going to tell us?"
Luke merely blinked, gaze flickering between the two. Reggie, to his credit, looked just as confused, meanwhile Alex was fighting a smirk. "Dude, I'm so confused. What the hell are you talking about?"
Alex placed the book down in his lap, finally letting the smirk take over. "When were you going to tell us you were in love?"
Luke immediately started to sweat. "What?"
"If you're writing these love songs about me, I'm flattered," Alex teased, to which Luke could only roll his eyes and snatch the book back into his possession. "But you know I'm taken."
"I'm not in love," Luke muttered under his breath.
And he wasn't. He would stand by that.
But he'd be lying if he said he didn't stop by the bookstore solely to see his curly-haired goddess. Every time, he would look at her and a sudden burst of inspiration would blindside him and he would be writing into his book without even realizing. He wasn't going to tell the boys that, though.
After about a month of hidden glances and polite smiles, he figured it was about time to say something. He also figured it could only look a little strange, him being at a bookstore every week and never buying anything. To his credit, many others took advantage of their tables to work quietly; he wasn't the only one. But he was the only one who couldn't take his off the employee with kind eyes and a mega-watts smile. Sometimes she came over to organize the tables, or wipe them down, and so Luke decided it was now or never.
"Hi," he blurted one night when she came to grab a stray book someone had left on his table. Her gaze lifted to meet his. Her face broke out into a warm smile and he nearly broke his pencil from how hard he was holding it.
Luke's eyes dropped to her name tag. He'd never been close enough to read it (with the exception of the first time he saw her, but he was understandably starstruck and couldn't focus on anything).
Julie.
He debated saying something else, it almost looked like she was waiting for him too, but the words were caught in his throat. He merely sent her a pained grin as she retreated. God, that was awkward.
Over the next few months, his confidence grew some, but he was never able to hold a full conversation with her. He was working up to it, but in the meantime, he was content in his corner writing songs about the girl who had unknowingly captured his heart.
This week had been particularly gruelling. School had taken a lot out of him (every mark counted for college admissions) and his parents were on his ass about his grades. He knew he had to do well, even if he wanted to pursue music, he needed the grades to get into a good music program; he knew that. He didn't need his mom yelling at him about it every day. So, this Friday he'd spent the entire evening at L.A. Books, anything to just get away for a bit. He knew it was almost closing time; there weren't many customers left and he could see Julie cleaning up out of the corner of his eye.
He was trying not to spend all his time watching Julie, instead focused on his latest creation. So, he didn't see Julie apprehensively watching someone shove a few books into his backpack. He was young, but probably a bit older than Julie. Why he would want to steal some books, Julie had no idea, but it was the wrong day to mess with Julie Molina.
She hadn't had her best week either, and watching someone blatantly try to steal like he was, severely pissed her off. Protocol be damned, Julie stalked over to the individual and blocked his exit. Protocol insisted on not confronting the shop-lifter by any means, but Julie was too annoyed to care.
"Are you going to pay for those books you put in your backpack or can I have them back?"
Julie was impressed with how confident she sounded. Even when he met her glance head-on, she wasn't the least bit intimidated.
"What? Sorry, I think you're thinking of someone else," he replied, but after meeting her gaze the first time, he couldn't hold it as he spoke.
"Just give me the books and I won't call the police," Julie reasoned. She sounded exhausted, and that was because she was; this was honestly the last thing she needed this week, and yet, here she was.
But as soon as the man noticed her change of tone, his mouth twisted into a scowl. "I already told you, you have the wrong guy."
"I saw you put them in your backpack!" Julie argued, her anger crawling back up her throat.
"No, you didn't, because I didn't do anything!" He replied angrily. "Are you going to move, now?"
Julie stood her ground. It was probably quite comical, considering she was a full head shorter than him, but she wasn't moving. "No. Give me back the books."
The man let out a furious snarl. "Get out of my way, bitch."
His words didn't offend her in the slightest. Honestly, she felt sorry for him, that this was how he was raised to treat women, especially someone as young as her. But she was perceptive, and she could tell he was getting agitated and possibly aggressive. She didn't know this guy, she didn't know what he was capable of.
Luke had kept his eye on Julie the entire time, he always did. But as soon as he realized what she was doing, he swore under his breath. He tried to keep his distance, to let her do her thing, but the second the man called Julie a bitch, Luke was up and out of his chair, ready to throw hands.
There was a point in his life where he wouldn't even think about the consequences of his actions, but as he approached, he caught Julie's eyes and figured punching this random guy in the face probably wasn't the best course of action. So, he hung back, close enough to be noticed, but not enough to be considered a threat.
Or so he thought.
The man noticed Julie's eyes focused on something behind him, so he whirled around to see Luke. What with his height and obvious biceps (that were currently on display because what were sleeves anyway?), the man scoffed.
"Is he coming to your rescue or something? Need someone to fight your battles?"
Luke merely raised his eyebrows.
The fact that he was saying all this to a high school girl seriously baffled him.
When the man tried to step around Luke, he side-stepped to be in his way again. Luke didn't smirk, didn't show any facial emotion. It was enough to unnerve him.
With an angry huff, he reached into his backpack to pull out the two books in question. He slammed them into Luke's chest as he stormed past him, muttering, "I don't need this crap."
The moment they heard the door slam closed, Luke's eyes slid over to Julie. Her face was blank, but her eyes were stormy, angry even. He didn't blame her; that guy was a right dick. He hesitantly handed the books back to her. Her gaze flickered to the books and back to him. She probably had no idea how absolutely intimidating she looked.
But then she smiled. A proper, full smile that had Luke merely staring. "Thank you," she said, reaching forward to grab the books. He was hoping she'd say more, but instead she took the books and walked away to put them back in their place.
It was fine, because she had talked to him and he was so ridiculously happy about that. He had also helped her out in that less than stellar situation, but not overbearingly so that he treated her like a damsel in distress who couldn't handle herself. Julie definitely held her own, but he wouldn't be able to live with himself if something happened to her and he was right there sitting in his corner. Pleased with himself and how the situation played out, he skipped back to his seat in the corner, feeling more inspired than ever to finish the current song he was working on.
He glanced up one more time, surprised to catch Julie's sparkling brown eyes already looking at him. She immediately averted her gaze, mouth twitching as she held back a smile.
That was when he decided, no more pining around; it was time to officially ask her out.
What was the worst that could happen? She would say no. And he'd be okay with that, because it was 2021 and respecting women and their decisions shouldn't even be questioned. He'd be disappointed, sure, but for now, he was still holding out hope that maybe she would be into him too.
It was nearing eight, and Luke could tell when he saw the remainder of customers heading for the door. He spotted Julie making her way over too, getting ready to lock the door behind the last customer. He gathered up his things and shoved them into his backpack as slowly as possible. His heart was hammering in his chest and his palms were sweaty; he was actually nervous to ask Julie out.
How couldn't he be? She was absolutely gorgeous.
Luke made it to the door, taking a deep breath before he met her eyes.
Julie stepped in front of him, blocking his exit.
He stumbled in his step, grabbing onto the door frame to keep from toppling straight into her.
"Sorry," she mumbled, tucking a curl behind her ear. For the first time literally ever, Luke observed the tell-tale signs of her shy and apprehensive behaviour. She was always so confident, so in tune with what she seemed to want, this was unusual to him. Not only because of that, but he'd never been this close to her, and he was suddenly finding it extremely hot (and he was barely even wearing a shirt).
Luke tugged on his backpack strap, because he needed to do something. He needed to focus, or else he'd end up doing something stupid, like blurt out that he was in love with her. "No, it's okay. I actually wanted to ask you something anyway."
Her sparkling brown eyes widened for a split second. "Actually, I want to ask you something — are you free to grab a coffee?"
It was safe to say Luke's brain started to short-circuit.
"Uh, what?"
He was so intensely focused on gathering the courage to ask her out, he didn't even know how to reply when she suddenly flipped the plan on him.
He started to lose his mind even more when a soft blush spread over Julie's cheeks. "I'm just closing up, and I could really use a dose of caffeine. I'd really like if you came with me."
Luke can't do more than simply stare at her; his body was failing on him. Julie held his gaze, biting her lip apprehensively with a nervous smile because he wasn't saying anything, and she really hoped she didn't misinterpret his signals. But then he finally fights for control of his body again, and a soft grin spreads onto his lips. "Yeah. I'd really like that."
She matched his grin, closed and locked the door behind her. "I only have a few more things to do. Just a few more minutes."
"No worries," he replied, shoving his hands into his front pockets. "Oh! I'm Luke, by the way."
Julie mulled over the name for a moment. "Julie," she responded.
"I know," he mumbled, eyes solely focused on hers. Even when she looked to him in surprise, he couldn't focus on anything but her eyes. God, she was so gorgeous. "Your name tag," he added, just to ease her fears about him being a stalker (I mean, he was there almost every week...).
Luke leaned against one of the tables as he waited for Julie to finish closing up. He watched her silently, unable to remove the excited smile from his lips the entire time he waited. When she told him he was ready, he diligently held open the door for her and then waited, hands dug into his front pockets, as she locked up behind them.
There was a coffeeshop right around the corner, and as they both started walking in that direction, there was an unspoken agreement, that was where they wanted to go. Luke hated himself and his weirdly awkward nature on their walk over. He couldn't find any words to say to her, none. He chanced a few glances in her direction, but she seemed content with just walking in silence, so he went with the flow.
Once again, he held the door open for her and smiled when looked at him with amused eyes. Julie headed straight for a table near the window, removing her jacket and setting it on the back of her chair. Luke followed, lingering when she didn't sit back down.
"I can go order," he offered, "What would you like?"
Julie looked up at him with a smirk, and dear God, his knees nearly buckled. "I invited you. It's my treat."
"Oh, come on," he nearly whined. "Let's not do this, please."
Julie pursed her lips. She was a very determined person, and if he didn't know that yet, he'd be quick to learn. "I invited you. It's only fair."
He ran a hand through his hair, shooting her the most charming smile he could manage. "Julie, I've been waiting to take you out for months. Please let me buy you a coffee."
All her determination died there and then on the tip of her tongue.
"Okay," she replied with a cheeky smile. She diligently took a seat. "I'll take an iced coffee, please."
Luke nodded, once again, skipping away from her for the second time that night. He ordered Julie an iced coffee (and a cookie because who doesn't like cookies) and a regular coffee for himself. He was already jittery enough but he could never say no to coffee.
"Here you go." He said softly, placing her treats in front of her.
Julie took a quick sip of her coffee and narrowed her gaze on Luke. "I want to hear more. You said you've been waiting to take me out for months."
Luke had never felt him blush so quickly before in his life. He nearly choked on the coffee he was currently drinking. "It sounds really creepy when you say it like that."
"I know you've been coming to the shop for months," she continued, breaking apart her cookie. She wasn't looking at him, and it honestly made Luke all the more nervous. She made him nervous. "And you've never bought anything, but you're always writing in a book."
"I needed a quiet place to write music and I found your shop."
Julie nodded along, humming. "I catch you looking at me a lot."
Luke scratched the back of his head. "Well, honestly, that's not entirely my fault. I can't help but stare at beautiful things."
Julie looked up at him with a smirk. "That was smooth. I feel like it's only fair I be as honest." She leaned her elbows onto the table, leaning in close. Luke started sweating again. "I always look for you during my shifts."
It was as if the air was entirely knocked out of his lungs. It was the reassurance he was looking for, the acknowledgement that his feelings weren't one-sided, but it was a lot to take in at once.
"You're the reason I come back every week," he admitted, the words flowing freely out of him now that he knew with certainty she felt something for him too.
Julie leaned back in her chair. Her eyes tracked his movements, mostly because she didn't know what to say next. Where do they go from here?
Who makes the next move?
"I'll keep dropping by. But under one condition," Luke reasoned, hiding his smirk with his coffee mug.
Julie found herself leaning in again. There was something about him that was so alluring, always drawing her in for more. "What's that?" She didn't want to give her real answer: anything.
"I'll keep coming by if you give me your number," he told her, running his finger around the rim of his mug. "Maybe go on another date with me?"
Julie didn't reply at first; she kept him waiting until he looked at her with curious eyes. She kept him on the hook, just enough that for a moment, he wavered in his confidence. "I'd love to give you my number."
He let out an obvious sigh of relief. Julie was definitely going to wreck him in the most beautiful of ways.
"And that date?"
Julie clicked her tongue, monitoring the way his eyes absentmindedly dropped to her lips. "I'll decide that after you walk me home. But your chances are looking pretty good."
A delicious smirk crawled over Luke's mouth, and now it was all Julie could focus on.
"Then I guess I should up my game," he winked, shrugging as he added, "Just in case."
When Luke walked Julie home hours later, she confidently latched onto his hand, mostly just to give him an ego boost because he acted like the perfect gentleman all night. And when he lingered at the door, unsure whether it was too soon to kiss her or not, she leaned up on her tiptoes and pressed a kiss dangerously close to the corner of his lips.
"How's next Friday night?"
It took Luke a moment to form the words after that, but he was anxiously waiting for her response.
"I'm off at eight, you know where I'll be." Even with all the coy flirting, she couldn't help but shoot him an excited grin.
Luke stuffed his hands back into his front pockets and started retreating down her walkway. "I'll, uh — I'll text you."
Julie leaned against the front door. "I'll be waiting."
And somehow, after months of pining on both ends, all it took was one attempted theft to bring Luke and Julie together.
It would take a lot more than that to separate them now.

We Found Wonderland
By @pink-flame
At the end of season one Julie isn’t able to save the boys and they are jolted out of existence. But what if there was another way? Julie finds herself back in 1995 with a chance to stop the boys of Sunset Curve from ever dying at all. But will she able to find her way home afterwards? Will she want to? Or has Alice really gone down the rabbit hole this time...
~
I dare you to read this and not get attached. Beautiful storytelling, a work better than most novels, and a must-read for the jatp community imo.

I did a thing. Please enjoy.
——
Religion
Luke Patterson was never much of a religious person. His parents took him to church as a kid, tried signing him up to Sunday school, made him join the choir. They gave up pretty quickly once they noticed that their son was more interested in the music than the actual words being sung in gospel.
Luke Patterson was never much of a religious person. If you were to ask him, badger him about it, he would say music was his religion. He only ever needed three things: A pencil to help transcribe his thoughts to prayers, his own holy book to hold his sacred words, and his guitar to help lead him into worship.
Luke Patterson was never much of a religious person. But as he found himself dragging in shallow breaths, the taste of battery acid and blood swirling in his mouth, his two best friends lying motionless on either side of him, he found himself praying: praying for forgiveness, praying for mercy; praying for his mother and praying for his soul.
Luke Patterson was never much of a religious person, and turning into a ghost did not help. He thought he was finally going to get some answers, see what all the fuss was about when people spoke of the great beyond. And yet, it turns out his great beyond was right where he spent most of his teenage years: Bobby’s garage. Huh.
Luke Patterson was never much of a religious person. But he often found himself staring worshipfully at the girl that had brought him back from the dead (kind of). He had considered music to be his religion, but could he have been mistaken? Could Julie Molina be his religion? He thinks she might be.
Luke Patterson was never much of a religious person, but he now reverently thanked whatever God might be listening for the gift that is Julie Molina. How was he so lucky so as to die, then come back to life, just to find her? He knew it couldn’t just be fate.
Luke Patterson was never much of a believer, but how could he not be now that he knows the girl in his arms was an angel sent from above, just for him?
Luke Patterson was never much of a religious person, but if music was his religion, then he was going to worship Julie Molina for the rest of their lives.

All That Remains #2? Which scene was your favorite to write
Heyyyyyyy nonny. This was such a fun question omg. Thank you!!!
2. Which scene was your favorite to write in [title of fic]?
UHHHH OH NO. I DONT KNOW. ITS SO HARD TO PICK!!! I will list three that come to mind :))
Alex using his lightsaber for the first time. This is a scene I debated on including for a LONG LONG time. Like. VERY LONG. I kept cutting it, rewriting, inserting, rinse & repeat. But the image of Alex using his lightsaber for the first time - with Willie’s jumpsuit tied around his waist - was just... too good not to include.
I really like the fake dating scene in front of Willie’s boss - that was fun. The whole “honey” and kiss on the cheek and Alex being at a loss for words? SO FUN. And the resulting conversations (”I prefer my love, actually”) are also a fun bonus.
Alex vs Luke. THIS IS ONE SCENE THAT I WAS !!!!!!!! ABOUT. It was one of the first things I remembered coming up with for the fic and I was counting down the chapters until I could write it. Just... Alex sacrificing himself for Willie.... Alex ready to fight the red blade... Alex rolling down a mountain uncontrollably.... Alex kicking Luke in the face....... The Reveal..... good times, good times. (Plus, the Julie moment in this chapter makes me GIDDY!!!!!)
I also am really looking forward to a lot of scenes. I have a few pre-written scenes that I can’t talk about because they come later and AH. They were so fun to write. I’m excited to post them.
Come send me a question about fics!

ehehehe hey tee 29 willex please
29. Hugging while slow dancing
Alex laughed, dipping Willie before quickly spinning them away to avoid phasing through one of the lifer teenagers.  The lights were flashing above them and there was a fog machine on the floor filling the room and creating exactly the type of atmosphere one would expect from a high school dance.
It had been Reggie’s idea for them to go to Julie’s junior prom, since they hadn’t gotten a prom of their own, and Alex had to admit, it had been a good idea.  Willie had been over the moon when he had invited them, and now, here they were, dancing to an upbeat song together.  Reggie and Luke were with Julie somewhere, but Alex had lost track of them.  It was just him and Willie, enjoying the evening.
“I’m so glad you invited me,” Willie said, raising their voice ever-so-slightly above the music.  “This has been so much fun!”
Alex beamed back at them as the music faded out and another song started.  Instantly, it became obvious that it was a slower song.  He glanced around, seeing the lifers pair up.  When he turned back to Willie, they were taking his hand linking their fingers together.  Instinctively, Alex put his arm around Willie’s back, smiling as they did the same.  He let Willie lead as they slow danced, smiling at them.
For a moment, the rest of the world slipped away, and it was just Alex and Willie, their bodies pressed close together.  It was moments like these that Alex relished the most, moments when he could just exist in Willie’s arms, feeling safer than he ever had.
“What are you thinking about?” Willie asked, grinning softly at him.
“I’m just… really glad we’re here together,” Alex murmured, moving closer to them.  There was hardly any space between them now, although he felt the need to get closer.  He dropped Willie’s hand, looping his arms around their neck, feeling Willie slip their arms around his waist.
“There isn’t anywhere I’d rather be,” Willie replied, swaying the two of them slowly back and forth.
Alex’s breath caught in his throat and he squeezed Willie even closer, if it was at all possible.  The swaying stopped, and Alex dropped his head to Willie’s shoulder, tucking his face into the crook of his neck.  Willie’s arms tightened around his waist, and Alex let out a breath, relaxing fully in their arms.

Jatp Fanworks Appreciation Week
Trivia Tuesday
this is a day late but whatever
here's some inside info about my favorite piece!!
Tumblr media
i named their middle school after a lyric from All Time Low's Getaway Green
the school colors are my districts colors bc i forgot what the los feliz colors were
reg is actually the tallest at this point but he's slouching and bobby is on his tip-toes
i hc that bobby got into a lot of fights as a kid trying to stand up for his boys, hence the bandaids
reggie has braces bc crooked teeth is about him
luke has glasses bc i hc that he needs them but refuses to wear them bc they're not punk rock enough, it's partially the reason for his awful handwriting
bobby is the only one with pierced ears at this point
alex's family is devout catholic and he wears his cross every day, it was a gift from his grandfather he takes the cross off of the chain after he comes out
this picture was taken with one of reggie disposable cameras by a stranger after a day of busking on the pier
the photo is worn because it's bobby's copy, there's a pristine version of it somewhere in reggies photo box that hasn't been opened since the week before the boys' funeral

College au please!
This came about when I brought up ‘Trevor and the Virgin’ to @lydias--stiles
A prompt I was meant to answer last week but now ready for ClownGate!!
Warning for language and allusion to sexual situations.
******
Luke opened his mouth, most likely to say 'thank you' or something along those lines but was rudely interrupted by a round of loud knocks on the door, followed by a familiar shrill voice.
"Luke! I know you're in there!"
Julie leapt out of her chair in an instant, whirling around on Luke, who looked as if he was going to pass out that very second.
"Carrie? Diva of the music department??" she hissed, recognizing the voice.
The guy clutched at his hair, threatening to pull strands clean off, "You see why I need to hide?"
Oh okay, this guy was for sure scared of Carrie just as much as Julie was. That girl was absolutely vicious. And apparently intrusive if she had been trying to ambush Luke (her ex?) in the showers...
But they were fine, Julie wanted to reassure. They were safe in her room. Not like she was stupid enough to open the door-
"The fuck is this?" another voice sounded from the hallway.
Julie's eyes widened.
Flynn.
Her roommate.
And despite being late for literally everything else, she just managed to have impeccable timing in the worst of moments.
She could hear Flynn getting into it with Carrie at the door. Shit, there wasn't time to text her about the situation or to tell her to shoo the pink demon away.
Julie's worst fears came to life when she swore she heard Flynn say:
"I don't know what the fuck you're going on about but if it gets you to leave any faster, Wilson..."-
Followed by the sound of the key turning the lock.
Luke straightened up, panicking and wildly looking around for an out before eyes settling on Julie.
She only knew Luke in passing, mostly of his reputation as the campus’ casanova. But if she was able to perceive just the slightest glint of an idea in those stormy hazel eyes.
He appeared to be at war with himself before making a hasty decision.
"Play along" was all he said before scooping her up and dropping her onto her own bed.
Her yelp and questions died when all of the sudden the shirtless guy (still dripping from the shower he narrowly escaped from) climbed on top of her, hovering with his arms bracketing her sides.
The door burst open and Carrie stormed in, followed by Flynn and Luke made the motion of pulling away at the intrusion.
"What's going on here?!"

JatP Fanworks Appreciation Week Work-in-Progress Wednesday:
A wee excerpt from “Set the Seal on the Feelings We’ve Got,” a oneshot (no, really) coming in the 100 Bad Days verse... eventually???
There’s a fluttering in the mic, like the phone is switching hands, and then Carlos’s voice comes on the line. “So we’re basically adopting Luke, right?”
“Not really, but sure.”
“I mean, he doesn’t like his family and you do, so he’ll take your last name.”
Julie glances up as Luke leans against the door jamb, watching her with that intense unsmiling smile he does sometimes, eyes warm and locked on her phone. She’s confused for a moment until she remembers that she’s holding the phone with her left hand, and his gaze is entirely focused on the ring. Her chest flutters, and she can’t stop herself from smiling back at him.
“It’s not that simple,” she tells Carlos as Luke bounces onto the bed next to her. He picks up her right hand and cups it over her left, then tugs her left hand free, leaving the phone in her other hand. She raises an eyebrow at him, but he just pulls her ring finger toward his mouth and starts to pepper it with kisses. A flood of almost painfully all-consuming joy rushes through her heart. The kind she felt every second during the first few months of their relationship. The kind that gradually became more bearable and less aggressive over time, but that flares back up in moments like these. The kind that makes her know in every inch of her body and soul that this is her person.
She pinches the phone to her ear with her shoulder, freeing her right hand to ruffle through his hair. Luke beams and presses the back of her left hand against his cheek, gently cradling the gemstone into his skin.
“… are you still there?” Her brother’s voice drags her back to the call, but her attention drifts in too slowly. With very evident disgust, Carlos whines to her dad, “Ugh, I can hear kissing on the other end. Can we hang up?”
“Just say congratulations, Carlos,” Julie shoots back.
“Congratulations on Luke becoming a Molina!” he yells back and then the line goes dead.
She glances over, not sure if Luke was close enough to hear through the speaker. His smirk answers.
“I’m changing my last name?”

Green-Eyed Epiphany and fake dating with juke!!
not going to lie, i totally had to google green-eyed epiphany bc what i thought it was is definitely not what it is lmao.
also, i wish i had more time to write this. there would be so many thing i’d change!! but for now....
“luke! what are you doing? put your arm around me or something!”
luke rolled his eyes, slowly throwing an arm around her shoulders, while she literally vibrated under his touch. he didn’t want to be here, not in the slightest, but when julie molina asks him for something, he can’t simply say no. they were at their fourth college party of the month and luke couldn’t even believe he was saying this, but he was exhausted of parties.
a few months ago, the only one of his friends with a braincell (aka his very best friend) showed up at his door with tear stains all over her cheeks. he didn’t ask any immediate questions; just pulled her in and took her straight to his room. she curled up in his blankets while he went to get some water. he wasn’t trying to overwhelm her, so he sat at the corner of his bed, giving her all the space he could. he listened to her cry and his chest was constricting so tightly, he felt like he couldn’t breathe. eventually she pulled herself up and rested her head on his lap; he caressed her hair and she steadied her breathing.
eventually she told him that her boyfriend, mason broke up with her (luke was never a fan, but he could tell that julie was really hurt by it, so he shoved his thoughts aside). he sat with her the entire night and they talked about anything and everything. it took her some time, but she slowly became okay with being single again. that was, until she spotted her ex-boyfriend mid-performance at this local club they were playing. to everyone else, it just seemed like she forgot the words to the song, but luke knew her. he couldn’t even stop her when she skipped the dressing room and went straight to him. after that night, mason reached out and julie was immediately sucked right back in, no matter how many times luke tried to warn her.
but she went about it differently this time. while she wanted mason back, she also wanted to make him work for it. so at the top of her list of worst ideas she’d ever come up with, she requested luke’s help to make him jealous.
“how the hell am i supposed to do that?”
“we can pretend to date a bit!” she exclaimed, eyes lighting up with the genius idea. “that’s perfect. he’ll see us at all the parties, it’ll be great.”
luke ran a hand over his face. “julie, that’s a horrible idea. no.”
“what?” julie turned to him with a pout. “what do you mean no? you have to help me, you owe me!”
luke rolled his eyes. “he’ll never buy it.”
“are you saying you can’t pretend to look like you’re in love with me?”
that instantly shut luke up.
“julie,” he breathed, trying to reason. “please don’t ask me to do this.”
“luke,” julie matched his tone, even going as far to lean into his lap and rest her arms on his shoulder. “please. do this for me. please.”
any willpower that luke had, it disappeared the moment julie looked at him with those eyes.
currently, they were at another party and julie was desperately trying to flaunt their ‘relationship’ to where mason was. he was engaged in a game of beer pong, and he wasn’t even paying attention to julie (like he never did) and luke’s blood was starting to boil at how much effort julie was putting into this.
“luke,” julie hissed, grabbing his chin with her fingers so he could actually look at her, since he hardly had all night. “what the hell? you look like you can’t stand me, much less that you’re in love with me.”
he swallowed hard, eyes scanning her face. she looked beautiful tonight, like she always did, and luke couldn’t pretend this wasn’t starting to take a toll on him. he knew in his very soul that he was unbelievably and irrevocably in love with julie molina and he wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep this up.
“alright, nope,” he quipped, removing his arm and standing up from the couch. “i’m done. this is done. i’m not doing this anymore.”
julie’s jaw dropped and he left her seething in shock. he couldn’t bear to see her hurt expression, so he grabbed his jacket and snuck outside. it was cold, there was no one else around; it was perfect, he needed the silence to clear his mind.
but then he heard the door slamming open and he knew exactly who had followed him.
“luke! what the hell is your problem?”
he took a deep breath before he turned around to face her. her shoulders were hunched and she was rubbing her arms; it was cold and she was in a dress. even her obvious seething anger couldn’t warm her.
“i don’t have a problem, julie,” he replied, voice even and calm. “i’m just not about to keep lying to everyone for no reason.”
“you have a reason!” she shot back hotly. “your reason is to help me, your best friend.”
luke shook his head; he was starting to lose his cool and he feared if he did, he would say things he would probably regret. “julie, think about this. is this really what you want?”
“i’m trying to make him jealous, and it’s working!” julie exclaimed, hands thrown into the air in desperation. “why don’t you want to help me?”
luke clenched his jaw. “i don’t want to help you because you’re trying to get back with an ex who never even treated you right in the first place! he doesn’t deserve you!”
“what?”
luke stepped closer. “julie, you deserve so much better. i’m sorry if i’m overstepping but i can’t help you with this anymore.”
at this point, julie’s anger had faded, she was just confused. she didn’t understand why luke was acting out this much. sure, he knew he was protective, but he would always do anything for the people who needed him, especially her.
“luke, i don’t understand.”
“you don’t have to.”
that set her off again.
“no, luke, i need more than that. you can't shut me out like this. i thought i was your best friend.”
that set him off again.
“julie, i don’t want to be just your friend anymore!” he exclaimed, eyes glued to her expression. “god, i’ve liked you for ages and i just didn’t know what to do about it. this doesn’t even have to mean anything. i just don’t want you getting hurt again and i’m sorry, but if you want to get mason back, you’ll have to do it on your own.”
julie’s heart was beating out of her chest.
“luke.”
“but i’m telling you right now, he doesn’t deserve you.”
“luke.”
“i’m going home now. i’m sorry but i -”
“luke, shut up!” julie shouted, surprising him with the sudden change in demeanour. through his rambling, he hadn’t noticed all the steps she’d taken in his direction. “just shut up,” she whispered. he was acutely aware of her gaze dropping to his lips.
he couldn’t act on it though. if she wanted him, she would have to make the move.
her cold hands slid behind his neck, pulling him down to where she needed him. his eyes were frozen, stuck on all her facial movements, before she came in close and pressed her lips against his. her lips were cold, she was clearly freezing, so luke wasted no time in pulling her close by her waist.
“you’re freezing,” he mumbled against her temple.
“you like me.”
luke pulled back slightly. “yeah, i do. what’re you going to do about it?”
she responded by pulling him down for another kiss.
(and YES, he does give her his jacket after)

wip wednesday part 1 - ring shopping/best friends
today i will be posting excerpts from a few different wips! to kick it off, a small part of the very short draft i have started for the ring shopping/best friends au.
The charming and kind siren-like singer and the goofy, confident guitarist? People who knew them were at first shocked by the union -- but it only took watching them for barely five minutes to see how it worked. Between Luke and Julie, conversation flowed, communication was clear, and chemistry was palpable. They would cut each other off mid-sentence because they just knew what the other was going to say, and Julie’s father often remarked that it felt as though the two of them each had one half of one whole brain.
Julie thinks that they each have one half of a whole soul -- but that’s a thought reserved for her dream box.
