My Playlist: Jimmy Kaga-Ricci Needs a Hug
A Song Analysis.
1. Hey Angel by One Direction- starting off strong with this one for multiple reasons. the one-sided dialogue with an angel reflects the religious imagery of the book and jimmy taking comfort in his religion by talking to god. the words also work really well if you imagine this as jimmy talking to angel about switching roles in life. also, the one direction larry stylinson situation very much fueled alice's idea for jowan, i think, the parallels are very clear.
2. Play My Music by The Jonas Brothers- a fun little jam about a boy just wanting to play his music
3. Salt by Bad Suns- the lead singer of bad suns wrote this song for his transgender friend, but i really would not have guessed that this was written by a cisgender person if i had not looked it up. phenomenal articulation of a transgender experience, obviously the song belongs here
4. Love Me by The 1975- the lyrics reflect jimmy's theme that it is silly to idolize somebody that you don't know
5. Social Cues by Cage The Elephant- another song about coping with fame and anxiety
6. Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots- jimmy is very stressed, obviously, and reminiscent of when times were simpler
7. You’d Be Paranoid Too (If Everyone You Knew Was Out To Get You) by Waterparks- another song about his anxiety. this song makes me think about how he is so worried about somebody breaking into their apartment and his room. he is frequently worried about being in danger from others
8. Karma by AJR- a song from the perspective of a famous person in therapy. in a podcast explaining the making of this song, the lead singer explains that they edited multiple takes of the bridge together so that there would be no audible breaths in between lines, which heightens the sense that the narrator is spiraling into a panic attack. very much how i imagine jimmy finally in therapy
9. One of Us by Joan Osborn- alice said so and i agree
10. Starting Line by Luke Hemmings- this one is hard to explain, but it's essentially about feeling emotionally numb throughout life due to poor mental health and feeling like life is flying by without really experiencing any of it. i have multiple songs from this album sprinkled throughout all of my playlists for the ark boys, and this one just feels the most like jimmy
11. Only The Brave by Louis Tomlinson- i love that this song has been adopted by fans to be about lgbtq+ bravery. it has to be included
12. Lights Up by Harry Styles- really reflects how little sense of self jimmy has. the main line "lights up, do you know who you are?" really stands out because jimmy states multiple times in the book that he does not know who he is
13. Run Boy Run by Woodkid- maybe this one is a bit dramatic, but it's my running away song, so it naturally goes here
14. Laura Palmer by Bastille- gosh, i love this song. it's another one that's hard to articulate, but it's perfect. "you ran into the night, you can't be found. this is your heart, can you feel it? pumped through your veins, can you feel it?" jimmy runs away, finally acting on his own autonomy, and this song is perfect for it.
15. Make it Stop by COIN- another song about being anxious and overwhelmed. reflective of jimmy trying to put a hold on his chaos that is life by running away from it
16. Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift- this is how jimmy views himself
17. I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) by The 1975- this song reflects the comments jimmy makes to lister in his childhood bedroom. you know what i'm talking about
18. Weight of Living, Pt. 1 by Bastille- what's this? another song about jimmy's anxiety and the weight of his fame and chaotic life? wow!
19. Earth To God by COIN- a great song narrating a one-sided dialogue with god. this song makes me think of the scene where he stops inside the church in kent
20. 2011 by 5 Seconds of Summer- this is THE jam-session-in-pierro’s-basement song, i don't make the rules. listen to the lyrics and tell me i'm wrong, i dare you. it's literally a band jamming out reminiscing on the days before fame when life was easier and they could just be innocent and play music for fun
21. Comedown by Luke Hemmings- 🎶it’s been a hell of a week🎶
22. Guys by The 1975- alice said so and i agree
23. Give Yourself A Try by The 1975- this just gives end of the book vibes. i hope jimmy starts to give himself a try after all of this

La squadra random headcanons pt. 2
Part 2 since Part 1 was too much fun! XD
Risotto:
gets headaches from spicy food
makes a cute pouty mouth when he's embarrassed
likes watching trashy tv from time to time
when football is on, he and Formaggio are screaming their lungs out
Prosciutto:
he's a messy bitch (never tell him tea, he will use anything and anyone against you, has a secret folder where he keeps receipts)
practices vogue dancing in red boots in his room
if you're lucky, you can catch him singing in the morning (when he feels like nobody is around)
Doesn't care when someone is using the bath, will go in regardless
(he is lowkey a misogynist)
Melone:
has a secret TikTok account where he makes videos about his daily life as a mafioso (also under peoples comments and sliding in dms)
will at least once call anyone he meets "gurl" (he thought he ate)
watches drag race with prosciutto
prank called risotto and made him believe that he ordered 20 pizzas (melone getting that cash out here)
Ghiaccio:
has all the painkillers in his room (he probably has a jimmy neutron head after all this rage)
his showers/baths consist out of water with ice cubes (no soap)
uses a Bunsen burner for cooking
gets dragged into every mess by prosciutto
Formaggio:
the paintings in front of the hideout are his (he is very talented when it comes to spraying)
I can totally see him as a patriot, argue with him about Italy or Italian culture and he goes nuts
puts coconut oil on his chest to make him appear more "sexy"
his hair feels like dust and sahara sand
Illuso:
listens to male podcasts (you know which one) because he believes in the sh!t they're saying and will send quotes into the groupchat (getting dragged by everyone)
would love to work with old people (idk I somehow see him as someone who is big on respecting elderly people)
decided to run for a political place when he was drunk
the TikTok fu!ckboy of the house together with Formaggio
Pesci:
goes early to bed (can't keep up with the daily crazy things in the house)
helps risotto when it comes to washing his clothes
goes to church on sunday
he used to train ride back in the day

Watch "The Ten Commandments" on YouTube
The first words Jesus and John the Baptist said was "repent". Well, in order to repent, we have to know what to repent from.
The above link is a great in depth break down to each commandment. David and Jimmy use scripture after scripture after scripture, as well as some great puritan commentaries, to analyze each one with some surprising things. Holding up these scripture to historical events, current events, plotics, the education system, and today's modern church. You can also find it on different podcast platforms if you search The Doctrine of Christ. I personally learned a lot, things that made me reevaluate things I said and have done, I hope you check it out.

hello :) what resources would you recommend to someone curious about catholicism but not yet ready to go to mass? i would like to read and learn more. i have read the protestant bible years ago but never a catholic one. ive been reading some catholic websites from local churches, but would like ideas for books or articles? i have also been praying but i only know how to pray the protestant way (informal stream of sincere thoughts) and i dont know where to find catholic thoughts on prayer to learn if i could pray differently. thank you for your help!
Even if you’re not comfortable attending Mass yet, I like to recommend RCIA to everyone who asks about resources. Your local Catholic Church should offer (free) RCIA classes; there’s no obligation to convert and it’s an awesome resource for people wanting to learn more about Catholicism.
You should be able to find contact info for RCIA classes on the church website.
In addition to that, I highly recommend Catholic Answers for any questions.
Catholic Answers also has an app where you can tune in to Q and A’s with apologists, priests, etc, etc. If you catch their live talks, you can even call in with a question.
Some good Catholic channels on YouTube are:
One of my favorite apologists:
Great collection of Catholic audiobooks:
Bishop Barron has some interesting shorts that usually cover a wide variety of topics:
Great mix of prayers and Q and A’s:
Another great Catholic apologist:
This channel will post recordings of Mass, prayers, Catholic news, interviews, etc (I especially love Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s talks):
As for books, a good place to start is the Catholic catechism and Bible.
“Rome sweet Home” by Scott and Kimberly Hahn
“The Bible is a Catholic Book” by Jimmy Akin
Lives of the Saints
“Why we’re Catholic” by Trent Horn
“Confessions” by St. Augustine
“Orthodoxy” by G.K. Chesterton
“Catholicism: A Journey to the heart of the faith” by Bishop Robert Barron
“True Devotion to Mary” by St. Louis de Montfort
“Uniformity with God’s Will” by St. Alphonso Liguori
“Interior Castle” by St. Teresa of Avila
As for prayer, sincere streams of thoughts are good and I would never want to discourage you from continuing that practice.
I would like to recommend the rosary:
youtube
You can read more about it here:
There’s a lot more I could add here, but I think this is a good start. God bless you on your journey, Anon! I’ll be praying for you.

"Johnny: So on my 15th birthday....
Mark: Wait how old was I on your 15th birthday? So you turned 25 1...2... 2 years ago. And I was... how old was I two years ago? How old am I now? What year are we in? Anyway yesterday I saw a turtle, he looked like a Jimmy. I wanted to feed him a piece of my cookie but I didn't know if he could eat it. Then I saw a brown leaf on the ground. When is fall suppose to start. Dude do you ever wonder what makes leaves turn brown or why the sky is blue. Dude life is trippy, we're like just living. Dude we're like alive.
Johnny: What the fuck are you even talking about?"
Bro this mark is my brain (I hate my brain it made me go insane) ("we've not gone insane we're just playing catch with the egg" -tom simons when he threw a cursed party)
Okay but saaaame the first part was inspired by an actual conversation i had with myself doing all kinds of mental gymnastics to figure what year did Dylan & Cole Sprouse turn 16, it was literally the day before I turned 15 so i was like so four years ago I turned 25 and that was ....2022...21...20. Like it took me so long and i still got the wrong answer. and after their ig live like that just seemed like something mark would do Mark just talks to talk. He just be saying anything and honestly same. I can' keep a single train of thought but i'll repeat something in a different way to get my point across. Mark talks in circles and i love that little guy so much.
Like why did it take so long for him to answer the question. And the well I've never been on vacation with you or a long trip. Like what does that have do with anything. Johnny was Tiiiiaard. Not tired. But an old southern church lady tiiiiaaard. Johnny was so done with this boy. But i love mark. Get him a podcast i wanna hear him go on random unrelated tangents about nothing.

‘The Sad Chase’ by Joanna DeGrace transports listeners inward to the secret thoughts of the artist
‘The Sad Chase’ by Joanna DeGrace transports listeners inward to the secret thoughts and anguish of a fictitious addict searching for meaning, chasing after "that feeling" while sabotaging everything in the process.
Genre: Adult Contemporary, Indie Rock, Alternative Rock
Similar artists: Kacey Musgraves, Joss Stone, Taylor Swift, Noah Cyrus
Joanna always had a profound love for well-told stories, in cinema and in songwriting, immersing herself vicariously through the character's experience. She wrote the "The Sad Chase" 8 years ago; collaborating with then-husband Jimmy Lahaie, multiple GMA award winning guitarist, and recently had it produced by The Animal Farm in London, U.K.
The Sad Chase's blended folk-country-pop genre with a driving beat, prominent electric guitar, strong vocals, will have you cranking up the volume, and simultaneously immerse you in the desire of escapism.
Joanna is an assistant head nurse clinician, entrepreneur and singer working in Montreal, Canada.   Poetry and songwriting have been her creative form of therapy, helping her verbalize a whirlwind of emotions as she deconstructed from certainty rooted in a dogmatic religion and began a new spiritual journey filled with questions and mystery.
The pandemic served as a wake up call to dedicate more time to her music passion and spurred her to finalize her songs, including soon-to-be released first single Hourglass, which will be part of her upcoming debut EP.
Her lyrics are  intimate and vulnerable with edge, and her style is folk-americana, with influences from Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift, The Civil Wars and Noah Gundersen. She has been singing since her early days in church choir, in high school musicals, in a rock band as a young adult and in the past years as an alto in Carol Bernard's Montreal Gospel Choir.

Listed: Faye
Tumblr media
In 2015, Charlotte musicians Sarah Blumenthal and Susan Plante posed a challenge to one another: learn new instruments, form a band, and call it Faye. Blumenthal was known locally for her guitar and vocals in fuzzy punk project Alright. She switched to bass. Plante studied classical piano and once dreamed of playing in symphonies. She became Faye’s guitarist.  As experiments go, it worked pretty well.  Jennifer Kelly called Faye’s debut album, You’re Better, “a non-stop banger in the estrogenized tradition of the Breeders, Speedy Ortiz and Kristin Hersh’s 50 Foot Wave.”  Here are 10 albums that Sarah and Susan can’t stop listening to, but they’re not telling whose picks are whose.
Bartees Strange — Live Forever
youtube
If you’re not fully submersed in the Bartees fandom, drop everything and go listen to this album. One of the most interesting and refreshing artists in the game right now — sonically bridging indie rock and hip hop with jazz sensibilities. His new record Farm to Table is also worth diving into, but it’s Live Forever for me.
 Braid — No Coast
youtube
I’ve been listening to Braid for longer than I’d care to admit (Frame & Canvas days), but these days No Coast is to go-to album. Iconic second-wave emo (or whatever) — I feel like this record gets a lot of shade as a departure from the OG sound, but I will never stop spinning it. Bop after bop, no notes.
 Drug Church — Hygiene
youtube
Another band that simply can’t miss — hardcore energy laced with melodic hooks and somehow…fun? This could just as easily have been their earlier album Cheer, but whatever — I love this dumb band! “Super Saturated” is *the* track for me.
 Mid-Air Thief — Crumbling
youtube
This album is probably going to be a favorite of mine for life. Mid-Air Thief is a Korean folktronica band and every song on this album is a damn masterpiece. Highly recommend listening to the song “Chains” on a good pair of headphones so you can really hear how they place each layer in the mix.
 Naima Bock — Giant Palm
youtube
Our drummer Thomas told us about Naima Bock some time ago! This album is so damn lush and gorgeous. The song “Every Morning” is by far my favorite, giving me Akron/Family vibes.
 NNAMDI — Brat
youtube
I think I first heard the song “Everyone I Loved” on KEXP one day and immediately looked the artist and album up. Every song on this album has such a different vibe to it with so many layers of instruments, sounds, etc.
Sons of Kemet — Your Queen is a Reptile
youtube
When I was in college for music I wanted to be in the jazz program so so so badly but I didn’t have what it takes AT ALL. Instead of this making me bitter I’m forever in awe of jazz musicians and their ability to experiment musically. Seeing bands like this and High Pulp bring this new kind of jazz into existence is so damn exciting to me.
Sydney Sprague — maybe i will see you at the end of the world
youtube
These songs are just cycling on repeat in my head since I first heard them earlier this year — another artist I should have been listening to much earlier than I was, but thanks to Jimmy Eat World taking her out on tour with them, I got there eventually. Hook after hook, perfect album for the falling temperatures imo. A great feel good/feel bad/feel everything all at once record!
Trace Mountains — Lost in the Country
youtube
p>I was definitely late to the party with this band and only started listening to them after their recent tour with Slaughter Beach, Dog and Anika Pyle. Solid solemn indie rock with a healthy twang. Heavily relatable content for me, but currently enjoying being continuously devastated by the title track on this album.
 Ween — Quebec
youtube
I started listening to Ween as a weird little 13 year old and had them in pretty heavy rotation until college. Only recently, did I decide to dive back into their discography for a podcast and realized how great this album is. Quebec somehow captures their ridiculous, non-genre sound but in a more mature way. I will always love this band.

Gwen: “I was actually going for a run on your ranch and it was one of the first moments where I was like, ‘Okay, I need to write a Christmas album. I’m going to go out and I’m going to think about it. I’m going to pray about it. And I’m going to run on your ranch.’ And all of a sudden, this Christmas song called ‘Christmas Eve’ came to my brain, it was like a miracle. And I started booking back to the lodge because I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I got to get my phone. Did I just write this song? How did this happen?’ And it was like a pure Christmas miracle. And I was like, singing it to my mom, my mom and dad were there, and I was like, ‘Does this sound like a church song? Did I copy this?’”
Blake: “Your version of the song on your Christmas album is THE version.”
Gwen: “You ended up covering that song, which was one of the greatest things ever. You are one of my heroes, one of my musical heroes.”
Blake: “Wow.”
Gwen: “To have you cover a song I wrote, to me, that’s one of my favourite life stories that ever happened to me as a songwriter.”
Blake: “Trying to figure out how to make mine different from yours. I just loved the song and I loved the fact that you wrote it at the ranch. The only difference in the two is yours is better.”
Apple Music with Love podcast, November 2021
“What's crazy is that Blake heard it, and he loved it so much that he decided to put it on his Christmas record and record it, which, nobody's ever recorded any of my songs, and especially not like, the hottest cowboy ever, Sexiest Man Alive."

Steven Lim Appreciation Week: Watcher-era Steven
Tumblr media
We are celebrating Watcher-era Steven and I want to talk about Hidden Narratives for this day of Steven Lim Appreciation Week!
From the description: “Steven Lim speaks with Asian American leaders across industries about how the coronavirus has impacted our community.“
There are six episodes and one of them is also on youtube. Keep in mind that these episodes were created in March/April 2020. More on that at the end of the post.
Quick disclaimer, I am not Asian American and it would be inappropriate for me to lead any kind of conversation about this podcast; therefore I attempted to keep this relatively surface-level. But I have to admit that I got carried away with this pretty quickly and I am not sure if I stayed in my lane. It was meant to be a short, appreciative post but it got out of hand - if I overstepped boundaries, please let me know.
A warning, this podcast deals with heavy and difficult topics, including racism, grief, pain, people losing their businesses, people hurting. It is also very focused on people coming together and how they can help each other - but these topics are still not easy. I still wanted to write about it because I think that Steven deserves all the appreciation in the world for his work.
The first words that come to mind when thinking about this podcast are “heart” and “dedication”. It has a lot of heart - and despite the not always happy topics, it is such a wonderful, beautiful podcast. You notice the hard work Steven put into it, the passion, the care.
In the intro of the first episode he said he was nervous when he made the podcast but that he hoped that people liked it because it would make him feel good. He explained where the idea came from: His friends talked about how the virus effected their livelihood, and he felt hurt and helpless. And he realized that he could share their untold stories.
Episode 1: How Coronavirus Shut Down A Restaurant in 24 Hours
In the first episode, Steven talks to his friend Deuki Hong, chef and owner of Sunday Hospitality Group, whose restaurants shut down in March 2020. He talked about the emotional impact of things happening so fast, trying to keep his employees safe and worrying about his team, having to question a lot of things he had been taught, and having to deal with the uncertainty.
Steven mostly asked questions and listened. Deuki Hong had to make some difficult decisions, and Steven was never judgmental about it - the podcast allowed for a very honest conversation about a very difficult situation.
The first episode very much was about trying to look out for each other, and that is a sentiment that continues throughout the entire podcast.
Deuki Hong said near the end of the episode: “When people are hurt, they just want someone to talk to, a shoulder to cry on, whatever that is, so be that person, just be kind, cause yeah, there’s a lot of hurt people right now.”
There is a GoFundMe set up for the team called Sunday Family Dream Fund. It is still open and has not reached its goal - the first episode of Hidden Narratives came out in March 2020 and the last donation to the GoFundMe was 8 months ago, so I am not really sure what the current state of affairs is. (I will come back to this at the end of my post.)
Episode 2: Why This NYC Restaurant Is Staying Open In A Pandemic
Steven mentions in the beginning of the second episode his “close emotional connection to the food industry” and that it is one of the reasons he started his podcast with two stories from two different restaurants. He also wanted to look at the topic of keeping the restaurant(s) open vs. closing it from two perspectives, and says that he does not know if there is a right or wrong answer.
Steven talks to Jimmy Ly, chef and co-owner of Madame Vo and Madame Vo BBQ. Jimmy Ly made the decision to keep his restaurants open. Steven started the conversation with: “Jimmy, thank you for sharing your story and I hope that those listening can gain a little more compassion, a little more empathy and a little more understanding.”
I found it touching that Steven’s first question was “How are you doing?” - it was asked in a way that allowed for an honest answer. This is also something he continues throughout the podcast, and it is very obvious that Steven is a very thoughtful and considerate person.
Jimmy Ly talked about his decision and for him, too, it is about his staff and his obligation toward them - the wanted to take care of them. Steven summed it up with “It is a choice for them between their livelihood and their safety”.
He talked about the measures they took to keep their staff as safe as possible and about adapting to the situation as best as they can.
Jimmy Ly said, if somebody on his team contracted the virus, he would shut his business down. It was obvious that none of the decisions he had to make and has to make are easy. They also talked about how Asian owned business were hit the hardest, and the drop in business for many.
The end of the episode got emotional - Jimmy Ly talked about how people who had to close their small businesses would most likely not be able to open them again. He said he and many others worked hard and that it is unfair that they could lose everything.
Steven talked about the impact Madame Vo had on him and that he could tell that Jimmy Ly cared about his restaurant, staff and customers and the food and that he poured love into it. Jimmy Ly said that Madame Vo means family to him.
The episode description includes the link to the Madame Vo website - Madame Vo Kitchen is still open while Madame Vo BBQ is “temporarily closed”.
Episode 3: FBI Warns Asian Americans Of Racist Outbreaks Due To Coronavirus
In the third episode, Steven talks to Benny Luo, the founder and CEO of NextShark, about the surge of racism against Asian Americans. He said despite growing up one of the only Asians in his school and being attacked for it, he has never seen so many Asian Americans being attacked in his life before.
From the description: NextShark is “one of the leading sources of global Asian and Asian American news”.
Benny Luo talked about the cases of racism against Asian Americans rising and that him and his team work the hardest they have ever worked in the history of the company to be able to report the stories.
He also talked about the impact of being confronted with those stories regularly - that it is psychologically draining but that his team feels a responsibility to do this work and that he is proud of his team.
Benny Luo told about someone writing to the team about the momentous moments happening for Asian Americans in the past years - and how it felt like it all came tumbling down. He said it is hurtful but that he also hopes it will be a time in history where the entire Asian community will come together.
But he also highlighted the good - there are people doing important work, in the medical field and in other fields, and it is important to be proactive - and these stories should be covered too.
Steven called the conversation “enlightening and therapeutic”. Benny Luo said to Steven: “You’re a creator, you’ve been a representative for us, being an Asian face on a really really big platform and (...) you doing interviews like this with me and you speaking up, I mean, those things have a lot of impact so no matter what it is, I think that you’ve made a big contribution in helping advance us forward.”
Here is the NextShark website.
Tumblr media
Episode 4: On Andrew Yang And How Proving Our "American-ness" Won't End Racism
The fourth episode deals with the controversial op-ed by Andrew Yang that advises Asian Americans to show their American-ness to combat racism. Steven said that he was hurt by his words but also by the way Andrew Yang was treated as a result.
In the episode, Steven talks to Taylor Weik, a Japanese-American writer who wrote an article in response to the op-ed. From the description: “Taylor shares more context on why Yang's call-to-action was dismissive to the history of Japanese-Americans and details the negative impacts of Yang's article on the Asian American community.“
In his reflection of the episode, Steven said he did not know how to feel when the article came out - he did not agree with Andrew Yang and he thinks what he said was harmful but people also dismissed all of Andrew Yang’s previous accomplishments. Steven said he can understand the outrage. He said that he thinks that Andrew Yang can learn and that they can grow as a community.
It was clear that this was a difficult topic for Steven but he did his best to have a balanced and fair conversation and to not condemn.
Episode 5: Why American Healthcare Workers Aren’t Safe From The Pandemic
In the fifth episode, Dr. Shuhan He, an emergency doctor and the co-founder of GetUsPPE.org, talks with Steven about the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for healthcare workers.
They had a conversation about what exactly PPE is and why it was so hard to get. They not only talked about the importance of PPE in hospitals but also in nursing homes. Another topic was the importance of wearing masks.
Steven said: “A lot of people are grieving and (...) I’ve been feeling a lot of pent-up sadness and I don’t know how to channel the energy.” He asked how people can help.
Here is the link to Dr Shuhan He’s organisation GetUsPPE. Once again Steven mentioned people coming together and doing good.
Episode 6: Should Churches Gather During a Pandemic?
The sixth episode is very personal to Steven - his Christian faith is the most important thing in his life. He talks to Pastor Drew Hyun, pastor and leader of Hope Church Midtown in New York City. Steven attended Hope Church when he was still in New York.
They talked about churches gathering - Pastor Hyun’s churches are meeting remotely. He said that people were missing connectivity and that’s why they decided to make services interactive and using Zoom instead of having live streams. They also switched their style of services to a style that would allow more interaction.
Pastor Hyun said what makes the situation so painful is that people share the collective grief but are still physically isolated. Steven asked how people are doing spiritually - Pastor Hyun said there was a hunger, and that people are starting to think about faith and life and God.
He said they would not be gathering because they want to be a loving community - a loving community would serve the vulnerable, deliver food to the elderly, raise money for small businesses, serve non-profits. He wanted to lean into love and generosity.
Steven talked about the challenges with his own faith - why would God allow such a devestating thing? He said he can at least channel all the energy of grief, and that giving back has been therapeutic for him. He also mentioned that churches are now more accessible than ever.
They talked about some churches not being willing to stop gathering in person - Pastor Hyun said it is a grief to him and that the most loving thing that churches can do is not to gather.
Again, the end of the episode got emotional - Steven asked how Pastor Hyun personally was doing and he told about how he tried to support the restaurant of a friend and walked out of it crying. He said it would be easy for him to fall into despair and cynicism - but that he clings to the thought that God will do something. He talked about people suffering and how hard it is to watch - and that the situation is challenging.
Steven said he would keep him in his prayers. Pastor Hyun said: “Thanks for what you’re doing and I think it’s beautiful - you’re telling the stories of pockets of light in the midst of what’s happening.”
In his reflection, Steven said that he had been struggling with the situation every day but where he can find joy and peace and confidence is God and the belief that God has a plan for him.
A few closing thoughts: I admire Steven’s dedication. I think this quote from the end of episode 3 sums it up: “I spend my evenings editing this, it’s not part of our overall business plan and probably, you know, we’re losing money from it. It’s not supposed to be my priority. But I’ve been given the green light by my co-founders, by my head of development to continue making this show.”
That’s incredible hard work right there. And it deserves to be recognized.
The podcast was created in the early stages of the pandemic. I don’t know how the people who shared their stories are doing now, about a year later. I would love to have some updates - I thought about doing some research myself and create sort of a follow-up but, again, I don’t know if I am the right person to do it.
To conclude this already too lengthy post, I want to return to the main themes that could be found in all episodes: Coming together, helping each other, creating support, being kind, channeling negative emotions into positive actions, making positive changes.
That’s what Steven is doing with this podcast and with the rest of his work, and it is very very impressive, commendable and inspirational.

Have you ever heard of Jimmy Hinton? He's a preacher with a pretty crazy story, but he does amazing work for churches. I recommend checking out some of his writings and podcast episodes.
I haven’t heard of him no! I will look him up. I did a quick Google search
“Hinton traveled across the country, speaking at churches and other organizations where he trained and equipped church leaders and professionals on detecting and preventing sexual abuse.”
He seems amazing and wow what a story of what I’ve just quickly skimmed on... definitely will look into him more and his podcasts!

Joe and Jimmy discuss how our church determines what songs we sing and what songs we omit. How do we handle a song with solid lyrics written by a someone who doesn’t have solid theology? Would we ever sing a Bethel song? Plus, Jimmy preached the truth of Scripture, and maybe a myth...

Sorry this isn’t exactly what your blog is but I don’t know if mormons are completely wrong? Like what if they’re all right and I’m going to hell and I can never see my family again? What if I’m just doing this to rebel against something again? I don’t know if it’s all wrong because sometimes the people there make me happy and sometimes they say something that might be true, and it scares me so much that I might just hate them for no reason and just need to repent or something and oh noooo
This is a hard one, I’m not going to tell you whether or not to believe in them but I will say especially early on this was something I struggled with a lot. Its hard to realize that what we had been taught our entire lives may’ve been wrong and its hard to figure out what you do believe after/if you realize you no longer believe in what you were taught. Things that helped me personally when I would go down this spiral was multiple things.
Some good resources are the CES Letter I highly highly highly suggest taking the time to read it and think about the information in it. This checklist is also very helpful as was the podcast No Man Knows My Herstory . I’m personally wary of most athiest exmormon youtubers for a couple reasons but Jimmy Snow (aka Mr Athiest) is fairly good.
I personally do not believe that anything they say is right that being said even knowing that it has taken years to really get to a place where I feel like I can say that I have shaken off most of their influence, I still struggle with the concept of the second coming and the terror that they will end up being right and honestly thats because of the religious trauma. Mormonism is a inherently traumatizing religion to be raised in and it is not easy to undo that brainwashing and work through that trauma at all. Along those lines I personally do not believe you’re going to go to “hell”, you aren’t doing this to rebel against something again, you probably don’t hate them for no reason and just “need to repent”
Just because the people there make you happy doesn’t mean its true, its hard to disconnect those things but the thing is the church isn’t all horrible some of the best times in my life were at church. I have so many good memories of church and having fun and good people that I knew at church but that doesn’t make it any less untrue in my opinion its hard to disconnect those things and its hard to remember that just because you had good times that doesn’t mean that everything they told you was true or that you couldn’t have been hurt by their teachings.
You are more then welcome to message me if you want to talk more, its not easy leaving the church and its not easy processing everything and figuring out what you truly believe beyond what you’ve been taught your entire life. I highly suggest checking out the resources I attached above. Good luck <3

Days alert : So glad to see Clyde again even if it is only for a moment!! **BTW, I do not understand the Daytime Emmy noms this year as they relate to Days. I really was pulling for Victoria Koneful (Ciara) and she won but George DelHoya (Orpheus), Tamara Braun (Ava) and Cady McClain (Jennifer)??? I was shocked when Cady McClain won. I mean, she was so whiny. I question my own ability to judge a performance. In most categories, the winner was usually the one I thought was the worst option. I was happy for Max Gail and CBS Sunday Morning.  Some performances were sure overlooked. What about James Read (Clyde), Paul Telfer (Xander), Bryan Dattilo (Lucas), Robert Scott Wilson (Ben), Daniel Kerr (Eli) and Lindsay Arnold (Allie) ?? As annoying as the Kristen character is and as long as it took me to get used to Stacy Haiduk in the role, she kicked ass this year. Did they even submit clips?? And,  they are not often on but Tony and Anna forever!!!!!!** And how wonderful is it to see the Dimera boys all together and recounting the whole fam for the votes? **And one more thing, Days was not even nominated for writing while Bold and the Beautiful spends every other show with the Liam character standing in front of the fireplace making excuses for the same shit! Just push repeat, C,mon!!**Philip had a great line for Brady about following Kristen like a zombie.** Dis Eli really say, “Peacock and chill??’ Are these the things they will have to do to do to stay on the air? It took me right out of the show. It was the same day the ads for Days on Peacock started. OMG
