Headcanon time.

Jimmy was home schooled for the first few years, his parents were unsure how well he'd be able to integrate into school, and figured it'd be easier. Jimmy was able to convince them to let him join the local scout group after having such a good first time at camp Tardicaca. Once Jimmy made friends with the other kids, his parents let him go to public school.
