The Spirit of Christmas | a Jonerys Christmas one-shot

Summary: With a promotion at stake, Dany must secure an appraisal for a historical inn before the New Year. The only problem is the ghost who occupies the inn during the twelve days before Christmas won’t let that happen.

“The door was open,” Dany explained, even though she lacked the need for an invitation as this was a business and not a residential property. 

“It wasn't,” the man countered, lips pressed in a thin line. “I’m actually in the middle of closing the inn down for the holidays.” 

Dany furrowed her brow. “Closing? Isn’t this the high season?” She looked around and saw that the inn lacked Christmas decorations. 

“Tradition.” He took the picture from her hands and returned it to its spot on the mantel. “I’m Davos Seaworth, the innkeeper.” He extended his hand to her. “You must be Ms. Targaryen from Manderly and Hornwood Law Firm.” 

Dany returned Davos’s handshake. “Please call me Dany. Yes, I’m here for the property appraisal.” 

Davos scrubbed a hand across his beard. “Yes, Mr. Tarly arrived early and…he left early.” 

“Yes, I saw him leave. Did something happen?” 

Davos shrugged. “It’s probably the ghost. Jon has never harmed anyone, but every once in a while he does like to assert himself.” 

“Jon.” Dany snorted. “You’re on a first name basis with the ghost?”

“Actually, if you know what you’re doing, you’ll find it’s easy to please me. Color! Sparkle! Simple.” She said, breathless after running up the stairs as she tugged her keys out of her pants pocket and let them both inside her frigid apartment.

He cursed at the ice-laced air hitting him, shocking a laugh out of her as she caught him shuddering.

“I know. It’s so cold here; I swear I saw a polar bear putting on a jacket earlier.” She said, delighting in drawing another chuckle from him as they approached her Christmas tree.

“You’ll be lucky if the pipes don’t freeze,” he said, but she obstinately refused to entertain the thought.

“They’ll be lucky if I don’t start beating them with the baseball bat I keep by my bed.”

After convincing him to let her decorate for Christmas, Dany treats Jon to a friendly interrogation and learns he isn’t so quiet after all. She just needed to stop and listen!

I’m alive! 😂 I’ve been gone for so long it feels like I vanished off the face of the earth but I’m still here. Just burned out and lacking energy. Regardless I finished the Christmas fic and you know better late than never huh? 😂

She fumbled with the dress, shoving it down and glanced at her escape route. She pushed herself forward, scooting down again, dropping to a balcony on the third floor. Only two more left, she thought, rather proud of herself, and hoisted herself over the railing, shimmying sideways to a gigantic maple tree. "I can do this," she mumbled. She was already this far.

How could she go back now?

What was she going to do? Just wander in to the godswood and say "Whoops, sorry dear, I didn't finish my hair and makeup because I looked at myself in the mirror and didn't know who I was and realized on my wedding day that I wasn't in love with the man I was supposed to marry, and also your mother is insane and will hate me no matter what so might as well jsut get out now while I can?"

Yeah, she wasn't doing that.
