(Finally, it took me a while, but we finally got to the most iconic scene in the movie! Unfortunately, this is where my project will go on hiatus. I don’t know when, or if I’ll come back to it, but I’m proud of myself that I got to this point. I’m especially proud of the parts of the scene where Jack looks at the sunset! I think it looks really nice and polished. So thank you everyone who followed me on this wild ride, this was really fun to do :) )

So it's been many months since I finished Rule of Wolves and I realized I never got to write down what bothered me so about the duology. (Perhaps because I've been on a Zoyalai high for a while lol.)

Anyhow, I don't know if anyone else can relate but here are parts of the story that didn't sit well with me:

1) Nikolai giving up the crown

Zoya is my QUEEN. She's badass and I love her. And she deserves to rule Ravka because SHE loves Ravka. But well, so does Nikolai. It's hard for me to accept that he spent nearly the entire Grishaverse series fighting for Ravka and doing all in his power to make it better just to give it up because he realized in that one scene that "oh, the crown was never meant for him". Also, can't they rule side by side as king and queen?

2) Nina & Hanne's relationship

Okay maaaybe I'm biased towards Matthias or whatever. (Intensified by that meta I read about Matthias's death not actually being crucial to Crooked Kingdom's plot, but that's a rant for another day.) For me, their relationship lacked development, that's all. Although I AM happy that Nina got to live "happily ever after" and fulfill her promise to Matthias after being miserable for so long. It just felt.. forced? And easy? I also found it hard to believe that the Fjerdan government just LET the "prince" marry a commoner who was suspected of having a hand in a noblewoman's murder as well as being her lover. Idk. Tbh for me, in all aspects, NINA DESERVED BETTER. She lost the love of her life and her powers were forever altered. I guess I just hoped for her story to have been written better with HER happiness at the forefront, not in relation to anyone.

3) Not enough airtime for Shu Han

With the King of Scars duology finally giving us a viewpoint of Shu Han, I was hoping to get much more out of this country. Throughout the series, we were given snippets of Fjerda from Matthias's flashbacks, the Ice Court heist, and then Nina's (very long) mission. But we didn't get much of Shu Han's culture and history until KoS started. The Twins are key characters in the story but their background also wasn't expounded on much in the first two series. And maybe I'm biased because I'm Asian myself and the inspiration for Shu Han was Asian. But it felt like there were tons to explore from this country which was very different culturally from the others which were European in nature. Lastly, I felt that the Shu Han were very much a SIDE part of the story. Sure, there are other countries in the story but Shu Han felt like it was meant to play a bigger role. Lastly, yes, Ehri was able to sort everything out with the help of Nikolai, but that was quickly wrapped up towards the end. I was hoping at least for some more spotlight on the khergud. Anyway. Too many feelings here.

Wow I can finally put my mind to rest about this now that I've put this in writing. I need to know I'm not the only one who feels this lol.
