Been looking at kidou incantations (for reasons), and I got really fascinated with this one, which Rukia starts to cast during the Grand Fisher fight.

In the manga, Ichigo cuts her off before she can finish casting it, so we don't actually know the name of the kidou or what it's supposed to do. In the anime, this chant shows up twice. The first time, it's in the same place, but Rukia finishes casting it: it's identified as Bakudou #9: Geki, and it paralyzes an enemy. However, I guess maybe they forgot they did this, because Momo casts it again during the Beast Swords Arc, where it is still Bakudou #9, but now it's identified as Hourin, which, despite translating to "Disintigrating Circle" seems functionally identical to everyone's old friend Hainawa.

That's not the point I am stuck on, though, which is, who, or what does "Rondanini" refer to??

I did a bunch of googling, and the two most likely sources I could find are:

The Palazzo Rondanini, a palace built in 1764 to house the art collection of Marquis Giuseppe Rondinini. Several famous works of art are named for this, most notably Michaelangelo's Pieta Rondanini and the Medusa Rondanini.

The Vigna Randanini, which are ancient Jewish catacombs located in Rome. These contain a lot of animal decorations, including dogs, but as far as I could find, there aren't any that are particularly notable that Kubo might have drawn inspiration from. I realize the spelling is off, but the kidou chant spells the word phonetically, so I think it's within the bounds of possibility.

We know that Kubo is into art history and architecture, given that he named all the Espada after architects, so it's certainly possible that he pulled the name out of one of these two places. Neither of them seem to have any particularly mystical or spooky associations, but I wouldn't put it past Kubo to just use the name because he thought it sounded cool.

Anyway, I am distinctly not well educated in art history or the classics, so if anyone has more insight into this, I would love to hear it!

✨KidoFudo Week 2022✨

FINALLY I’m posting some KdFd on a 14th of August, aka KdFd day. I wish I could have made one artwork a day for the whole week like some of the fellow KdFd lovers here but this week has been terribly busy for me. I’m still very happy with this little comic/story, tho ! @inazumafocus ‘s prompts really had this “summer trip in Italy” vibe for some reason (even though the first picture is a literal french café lmao) so I went for this general feeling instead of focusing on one specific pic.

I wanted to do something that would start in the past an finish in the future to reference the pics where we see OG and GO Kidou and Fudou. And then I recalled something a coworker said once about the Trevi Fountain in Roma and its legend. The perfect mix for this theme ! I guess Kidou and Fudou are friends at the beginning, they probably got closer to each other in highschool, and decided to go in Italy on the summer break... Maybe they actually started dating during this trip... Coming back to the Trevi Fountain 5 years later, where “everything started”. Maybe Fudou will make the most of this trip to propose to his boyfriend ? Making the wish he made 5 years earlier come true ~

*[連] is a unit 2-reams in width, a ream itself being 1,000 sheets of paper; and he’s saying it’s [百]:100 of those, so 200,000 sheets; A single ream tends to measure about 5.2cm(2in), so that makes the [閂]:bar measure 10.4km(~6.5miles).*  I’m assuming that refers to the height of the seal, not the length of either side of the footprint.  Although, alternatively I guess it might refer to how many papers it can stamp (at once??).

*[Oh my god this post has been up for months and I only just realized i went plugging the wrong units into that calculation. it’s 200,000 sheets not reams, the 200 reams, plus I just skipped a whole unit in conversion.  It’s 10.4meters not kilometers.  That’s like 34″1.5′.  Still big but not as crazy as it being miles long.]

Since I’d gone back and translated this bit in my effort to make sense of how Kubo actually uses ban[卍] I figured I’d post the Bakudou99 spell in its entirety.  It’s not complicated but it’s a fun little spell.  The English translation was a bit of a mess, but I can’t really blame them too much under the circumstances, they really didn’t have the context to make sense of it at the time.

The animation, the stylized character cut outs (I especially like the hard contrast and dark shadows), the super smooth animation with characters gently blowing in the wind, the color changing rainbow text on the bottom 🌈🌈🌈 and the popping bubble text on the top!?!!!!!!

Please enjoy these headcanons!  --------------------------- Kidou:  Prepared to be spoiled a lot, nothing is to expensive when it comes to his s/o. even if they make a comment about how they should buy some pencils or whatever he will buy it.  prepare for study dates, now that he is their boyfriend he will help them get good grades and if they do get good grades expect a date.  He will bring them stargazing and then try to see constellations and figures in the stars, and then talk about astrology while pointing out a constellation when he sees it.  He will make sure that they take care of yourself and eat healthy food If they and haruna get along pretty well he will be happy, because haruna is one of his only blood related family alive and thus he feels like that if haruna accepts them into the family. They will be apart of the family  THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SEE KIDOU WITHOUT HIS GOGGLES!  When they sleep in the same room together he will take them off a few minutes (sometimes hours) before he goes to bed so they will see him without his goggles  Will take care of them when they are sick and they will recover fast with his knowledge and they will feel better than normally for the first 2 days after they have recovered from their sickness.  He is a protective boy, he won't get jealous but if someone is talking to them while they are looking uncomfortable he will interfere and get them away from that person

Another addition to @mistressmiska ‘s IE Actors AU ! I actually invested myself so much in that AU I started shipping Kidou and Fudou’s actors...

Suruno Koushin : Kidou Yuuto Saito Haru : Fudou Akio Hogo Jun : Endou Mamoru Kakaru Sanae : Raimon Natsumi

Suruno Koushin (Kidou’s actor), has his share of personal drama, and Kidou is a complex and sensible character to play. I’m sure he would face some difficulties at some point because some scenes would hit close to home. All the beginning with Haruna must be difficult for him since his own real family often says he let them down. His relationship with Kageyama could be hard on him as well (because Kageyama is some sort of father figure to Kidou, and Suruno never met his father).

Saito Haru (Fudou’s actor), finds it easier to distance himself from his character and is a great support to Suruno during the shooting. The scenes where Fudou and Kidou are fighting were not easy to shoot, though.

Everyone on set was impressed by Saito’s performance during the shooting of the episodes with the Hell Army Z: the reason his aggressivity appeared so well on-screen is that he had a fight with his parents over the phone the day before. He was actually angry, and only Suruno seemed to notice (Saito tried to act like normal). At the end of the day, they went and chatted on the beach and Saito finally let some steam out.

There are rumors on set saying Hogo and Sanae are dating. It doesn’t really surprise anyone, and other actors are starting to get close too. Even the interviewers are starting to ask the cast about their love interests. Saito and Suruno are asked that question when they’re invited to a talk show with Sakuma’s actor. Saito can’t explain why he feels weird when Suruno just shrugs and answers he hasn’t thought about it.

Suruno and Saito came to the preview together : most actors came with their partner or their parents, but Suruno doesn’t talk to his family anymore and Saito’s parents were too busy to come (as always). They’re meant to pose for the magazines on the red carpet before they go in but Suruno is so excited he takes Saito’s hand and they enter from the backdoor. A paparazzi took a picture of them, drama ensues, but that’s another story.

Kazemaru part III + some Kidou’s faces

Hi again! I had this sketches from quite a while so I’m going to upload them today, I made them quickly just to warm up or relax a bit after I tried to paint many things on digital, all of them are made only with a ink penbrush or a 0.2 / 0.5 drawing pen (? -idk how is called xd-.

I really don’t like to have one kind of style (? Idk why, maybe bc I like to experiment a lot so don’t judge me if never they look the same (? The only three sketches that have something interesting are, the first where Kazemaru has really long hair, from the second pic the one on the right where I tried to make his adult hairstyle and the last one where I tried to make him in his Dark Emperor form (?

These are gonna be the lasts ones before I start my classes so from now on I’ll be in like a semi-hiatus (? I’m definetly not uploading sketches or drawings frequent as before, but maybe I’ll try, depending if I can handle my times better, so that’s it.
