In addition to the C-390, South Korea will buy more F-35A fighters
In addition to buying Embraer's C-390, South Korea will buy 20 more Lockheed Martin F-35A stealth fighters by 2028.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 12/04/2023 - 22:33 in Military
South Korea chose the U.S.-based Lockheed Martin Aeronautics F-35A as its stealth aircraft as part of the country's project to introduce next-generation fighters.
The Administration of the South Korean Defense Acquisition Program (DAPA) announced on Monday the decision to bring 20 more units of the F-35A poacher fighters by 2028 as part of the second phase of the country's Fighter eXperimental (F-X) project, which will cost about 4.26 trillion won ($3.3 billion).
The decision comes after the country has already purchased 40 F-35A stealth fighters in the first phase of the FX project, which were fully deployed in January last year.
The stealth fighter is a key military feature of the country's Kill Chain, part of South Korea's Three-axis system, designed to combat North Korea's growing nuclear and missile threats.
This morning, in a surprising move, the South Korean weapons acquisition agency chose the C-390 Millennium, a military transport plane manufactured by the Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer, winning the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules and the Airbus A400M Atlas.
In the first phase of the FX project, Seoul chose the U.S. four-engine C-130J turboprop military transport plane, which was again expected to be the country's choice in the second phase.
Tumblr media
The country will spend about 710 billion won ($444.3 million) to buy additional military transport aircraft by 2026, according to DAPA.
South Korea, technically at war with North Korea 70 years after an armistice, has been carrying out the project to replace old fighters since 2012, as part of the country's efforts to build the Three Axis system.
The system, introduced in response to the Pyeongyang fifth nuclear test in 2016, aims to defend the country's territory by developing a Kill Chain to preventively attack the source of an attack; intercept incoming missiles using Korea's Air and Missile Defense (KAMD); and employ Korea's Massive Punishment and Retaliation (KMPR) campaign to eliminate the opponent's command and control.
Being one of the three axes of the system, the goal of the Kill Chain is to preventively eliminate North Korea's military threat before the launch of a missile. Stealth aircraft play a key role in the Kill Chain system.
Tumblr media
But South Korea lacks reconnaissance capabilities, so it is buying the stealth jets abroad.
The plans of the fourth and second phases for the mass production of K21 infantry combat vehicles and light attack helicopters (LAH), respectively, were also approved on Monday, according to DAPA.
The K21 infantry combat vehicle was developed by South Korea's national technology to replace the K200A1 infantry combat vehicles.
The country is also developing LAHs with its proprietary technology to replace the 500MD and AH-1S military helicopters, a 5.7 trillion won (US$ 4.4 billion) project that will last until 2031.
Hanwha Systems Co., a South Korean developer of defense and IT systems, is developing and supplying key components, including a target acquisition designation system (TADS) and an electro-optical system that supports reconnaissance and attack missions, for the country's LAHs.

Description: Fresh out of West Point, John Howard arrived for his first tour in Vietnam in 1965, the first full year of escalation when U.S. troop levels increased to 184,000 from 23,000 the year before. When he returned for a second tour in 1972, troop strength stood at 24,000 and would dwindle to a mere 50 the following year. He thus participated in the very early and very late stages of American military involvement in the Vietnam War. His two tours—one as a platoon commander and member of an elite counterguerrilla force, the second as a senior advisor to the South Vietnamese—provide a fascinating lens through which to view not only one soldier’s experience in Vietnam, but also the country’s. **
Review:   Let me first say that I did enjoy this book - to a degree. That's why it gets 4 stars. But it's important to know that this is not a great book, which with the authors experiences, it really could have been. One of the biggest deficiencies is that he spends more time telling than showing. Good books of this genre give you a first hand view of what happened and what someone experienced. This book is very light on that, especially during his 1965 tour. It gets better with his Korean and Advisor experiences later on, but only just. Instead you get a lot of history of Vietnam, a lot of history of what happened, who went where, what they did. It's all very strategic and 1000 foot level when what this book is supposed to be is very in the weeds at the 1 foot personal experience level. This is a man who participated in a lot of intense operations, worked with incredible people like Foley and Hackworth, and was both a part of ABU and Tiger Recon with the 101st. But you never really get a feel for what it was like to be a member of either. You never get to experience a recon mission, though he was a part of many. You just know that x unit moved to y place, and then this is what happened / this was the outcome.
You get a good overview of the battles, the war, and even a few of the people, but very little else from his time with the 101st.
His time in Korea is a bit better and gives you a good understanding of what happened and some incidents and the people. Also his time as an Advisor is also more personal as well. So maybe it's just a memory thing and things from 72 are easily recalled vs 65.
One thing you'll notice is a lot of ring knocking and naming of generals... so many generals. So just... be prepared for that.
Overall though, a decent book... he needs to work on the tell vs show more than anything. Up next, going to read Foley's Special Men. I always loved Foley's fictional writing, so I have high hopes for his book about his time with Tiger Recon and other units. I have a feeling it's going to be a good compliment to this book.

jae suffers from what is commonly known as 'middle child syndrome'. he was never neglected by his parents growing up, but he didn't get as much attention as his older and younger siblings; especially from their father. he had learned from a young age what his father's order of preference was when it came to his children - and jae always came at the bottom of the list. it seemed as though no matter what he did, or how hard he tried, he could never really impress his father. while his mother was more affectionate towards him and at least tried to acknowledge his obvious vies for attention, trying to get through to his father was like trying to chip away at a cement wall with a plastic knife.
he went above and beyond during his childhood and teen years to impress his father. getting high marks in school, joining sports teams, learning languages and instruments - the whole nine yards. but he still couldn't seem to get into his good graces with the older man. it was a topic he tried to breach with his father many times, only to be shut down or even full out ignored and brushed off by him. it had gotten to the point where jae gave up even trying to relate and connect with him. it was useless. nothing he did was worthy of his father's praise, and as much as that hurt him, he came to terms with that finally when he reached his mid twenties, with the help of therapy and a healthy friend group.
however, by his mid twenties, he had no idea who he was as a person. he had spent his entire life trying to impress his parents that he had ignored who he was and what he wanted to do. what did he enjoy? what was his calling? he had spent time dabbling in different things; business, fitness, fashion - all things that were easily accessible to him due to the lifestyle he had grown up in. but none of them quite hit the spot for him. fitness was the one he enjoyed the most, but there was still something missing that caused a yearning in his chest.
jae eventually came to the conclusion that acting was his calling. it was a throwback to his school years; when he would perform in school plays. he remembered loving the feeling of stepping into a character, becoming someone new for a short period of time, and he wanted to experience that feeling again. with an endless amount of connections developed in multiple industries due to his wealth and family name, it didn't take much for him to get involved in the acting industry.
he's done a few cameo appearances here and there, as well as a recurring role in a popular netflix show, however he hasn't had a big breakthrough role yet because he's trying to find the perfect role to select to really cement his title as a serious actor. and maybe there's a part of him that hopes that it will be enough to finally impress his father and gain his approval.

◈   TAG NINE PEOPLE YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW BETTER!
Tumblr media
favourite colour(s): Royal/sapphire blue! I also love: navy, cool-toned red, pastels like blush pink/lilac/dusty blue, cream, and black.
favourite flavour(s): Not sure what qualifies as a flavor per se, but my favorite foods are cannoli, chicken tikka masala, champagne, tea, spaghetti carbonara, and lemon Fanta. My favorite restaurants are French, Italian, Korean, and Japanese mostly. If it's found on an afternoon tea tiered stand, I want to put it in my face. And I've been craving a steak bake and a sausage roll from Greggs for years now (don't get me started on Wetherspooons curry club and Nando's).
favourite genre(s): drama and romance, by a long shot. Bonus if historical. I like some fantasy, action-adventure, and comedy on occasion.
favourite music: I like pop/rock, classical, pop/rock goes classical, and soundtracks. I grew up on 50s and 60s music as a kid and my more influential music years (teens through college) would be anywhere from the late 90s to the mid-2010s or so. My SiriusXM radio is pretty much constantly drifting between the 80s all the way up to the 2010s, decades-wise.
favourite movie: My favorite movie of all time is Dead Poets Society. Otherwise, I love: Shakespeare in Love, Good Will Hunting, Love, Actually, and a variety of historical dramas mostly. As far as animated films go, I have a soft spot for Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, and Howl's Moving Castle.
favourite series: This question is mean and I don't like it. But I'll try. TV: Downton Abbey, Endeavour, Outlander, The Great, Bridgerton. Anime: Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Lupin III, Zeta Gundam. Video Games: Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Umineko, Code: Realize. Books: A Court of Thorns and Roses (and pretty much everything in the Maas-verse at this point), Bridgerton, Crazy Rich Asians. I feel like I should put something super highbrow here but uh...nope.
last song: We Will Be Memories - Call the Midwife soundtrack. I really love my soundtracks...
last series: Live action TV: All Creatures Great and Small Season 3, Marie Antoinette, Emily in Paris Season 3. Anime: Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family. Books: Crescent City (I need a book 3 release announcement ASAP)
currently reading:  From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout and it's annoying me SO. MUCH. It's what I do to escape from work stress, and instead I'm getting 'slow plot and annoying main character' stress instead. After this I'm taking a break from this series and trying Kingdom of the Wicked instead by Kerri Maniscalco. If that doesn't go over well, I'll finally dip into Scarlett St. Clair and Leigh Bardugo (so I can finally watch Shadow and Bone on Netflix), or The Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz. Murder mystery fans, do not sleep on Anthony Horowitz: he is a fantastic writer!
currently watching: Miss Scarlet and the Duke Season 3, Vienna Blood Season 3, Marie Antoinette, and probably Tokyo Revengers Season 2 soon. I need to catch up on the new Urusei Yatsura and the most recent Lupin III anime, too.
currently working on: de-stressing from a horrible day at work while regaining my patience for one more terrible day at work tomorrow, waiting for French seasonal clothing sales to get posted, charging my kindle so I can curl up with it, eyeing a soothing candle to light. I'm all about warm clothes, candles, my heated blanket, and books right now. And the usual: avoiding replies until I'm less tired.
tagged by: stolen from @earthssprout!
tagging: You, if you have more than three replies in your to-write pile (because that's more than me right now and I'm still avoiding them: let me help you procrastinate)

Unbeknownst to those involved, the quiz show as actually part of a scheme orchestrated by the villainous former child prodigy, Pythagoras Dupree. Dupree’s aim was to search the world for other people whose intellect might rival his own and to eliminate them as unwanted rivals. Looking to kill Amadeus, Dupree’s agents set a bomb that destroyed the Cho’s home and killed Amadeus’ parents.
Fearing for his life, Amadeus went into hiding. Sometime thereafter, Amadeus helped The Hulk in a crisis where he was assailed by a strange new type of Gamma radiation that threatened to overwhelm him. Using a swarm of nano-biotic drones, Amadeus absorbed the excess Gamma Radiation.  Amadeus ended up taking in this excess radiation, causing him to transform into a slightly smaller albeit still incredibly powerful version of The Hulk.

USAF creates Combined Air Domain Test Force to test the NGAD family of systems
F-22 fighter at Edwards Air Base will test the next-generation systems of the future sixth-generation U.S. fighter.

At Edwards Air Base, California, the F-22 Raptor Combined Test Force made the formal transition to the Air Domain Combined Test Force (CTF) and will have the task of testing the NGAD (Next Generation Air Dominance) family of systems in flight.
Although the Air Dominance CTF continues to test improvements for the F-22 to maintain lethality against immediate threats, the work will also include the planning and execution of integrated flight test campaigns for the NGAD family of systems.
Tumblr media
"The establishment of Air Dominance CTF shows that we are becoming more integrated and more lethal, while shaping the future of air combat. We do not fight as individual platforms, but we leverage a system approach of systems throughout the slaughter chain. We will be an integral part of the launch of a family of innovative platforms and systems through NGAD that will allow the U.S. Air Force to control the skies in a highly contested environment," said Coleman.
The mission will use Edwards' established ability to leverage resources shared across the test company to ensure safe and cutting-edge capacity for the combatant. “In April, we celebrated 70 years without losses in combat due to an air attack,” Coleman said. "This CTF is focused on ensuring that the legacy continues."
Tumblr media
The Air Dominance CTF is composed of representatives of the Development Test (DT), Operational Test (OT), the program offices and support contractors. The convergence of DT and OT allows the CTF to test systems in relation to the contracted project, while testing real-world operating environments. This combined test environment allows the delivery of capacity at the speed of relevance to the combatants.
Lieutenant Colonel Michael Coleman formally assumed command of the 411º Flight Test Squadron of Lieutenant Colonel David Schmitt during a change of command ceremony at Edwards AFB on June 9.
