I don't know how much you know about k-roleplay but it's the most embarrassing part of my life

krp is basically a community with extremely delusional kpop fans role playing as idols. I had just gotten instagram (2013, I was 13) and I randomly met a girl there and we became friends. she told me to download Line (a messenger app) and she added me to a group when I did. the group members had names and pics of idols and were talking as if they're them. I was an actual child (on top of that, I was extremely childish) so I went along

years passed, I dated girls that role played as guys, got cheated on several times, got my heart broken, found out heartbreak is an actual physical pain, cried, laughed, made one real friend (we're still long distance besties, sisters by heart, after 10 years) THEN I was done with it

I was an army since their debut, back when every kpop fan was bullied. until 2017 when I stopped. it was difficult bcs I was in a really bad state (mentally) and their songs helped me a lot

I thought I'd need a closure of some kind, so I went on kakaotalk and texted so many bts roleplayers. they mostly didn't answer. the conversation didn't go on with the ones that responded. but there was this one person... I genuinely enjoyed talking to them

it was around May, 2017, when we started talking. in September, I had caught feelings for that person. I didn't know their gender, age, etc. but I liked them and we were cutesy flirting

it went on like that. it was a Japanese guy 4 years older than me. he confessed to liking me on his bday (July 23rd, 1996) when I wrote something heartfelt for him on wattpad

we were a couple after that. I was in love. I don't wanna talk about the relationship. all I can say is that it became toxic after some time. some said I was groomed since I was 17 (just graduated from high school) and he was 21 (a working adult)

he broke up with me on February 2nd, 2021 and I took until 2023 to fully move on from him

he completely disappeared from my life. he texted me one time, days after my bday, to congratulate me. my prideful show off narcissistic ass BEGGED HIM to let me love him even if he hated me

for over 2 years, he was my only thought. he was the first guy I loved, trusted, shared my secrets and insecurities with. I was there when he lost a family member, I was there when he lost the dog he grew up loving, I was there when his sister got married and had her daughter, I was there when he did awful things to himself. but apparently all those things didn't mean shit to him

You were definitely groomed and I'm so sorry you had to go through that, I've been through similar and it's literally so confusing and gut wrenching.

Hobi would fucking hate that man and would absolutely never even entertain the thought of doing something like that. That "man" doesn't deserve to bias Hoseok.

omg hey <3 that's awesome babe i hope you get to know them and like what they do!! as for playlists i think this is a good primer for their best songs (it's from the top 10s kpop subreddit but they do tend to nail it with their rankings tbh)

it can be a bit overwhelming to get into them cause they have a VAST discography (over 200 korean songs and 400 including chinese, japanese and subunit stuff) but once you find a style you like from them you can then lean more into one of their specific eras.

once you go through that i would recommend checking out their live stages for your favorite songs cause their live performances are truly insane. for any song you pick i guarantee you there's a live stage where you can appreciate their vocals for real

besides that, there's this quick playlist i just put together which covers their chronology from their first title track (2012) to the last one (2021) with what i think are some standout b-sides for each album!

CHEERS QUEERS

As of January 30th 2023, I have officially been watching queer asian shows for one whole year. Insert that post about discovering media at the perfect time of life for maximum emotional impact or something. Thanks to The Youtube Shorts Algorithm(TM) for putting Bad Buddy on my radar I guess!

I grew up with little to zero queer representation in the media I consumed, and I never realized how valuable and important it was for me to see that until I read this book in October of 2021 where one of the side characters was gay. A SIDE CHARACTER. Cut to three months later and I'm binging all twelve episodes of Bad Buddy in one day, crying and acting a complete mess through most of it.

Now, I'm a slut for numbers, so lets talk statistics. One year. Forty-two completed shows. Four shows currently watching. Twenty-one show on the plan to watch list (as of this moment today lol).

For posterity, here are the current Elite 10% (or my top five shows which is technically the top 11.9%).

Bad Buddy (10/10) - My first and most beloved showed. Congrats on having my only ten star rating. I won't get into it cause I'll never stop.

Not Me (9.5/10) - BE GAY DO CRIME. Fight the patriarchy. Fuck the system etc etc. Still to this day wildly impressed with Gun's acting prowess. Still to this day won't shut up about DanYok and how much I love sluts.

Semantic Error (9/10) - The chemistry, the height difference, the kpop stan inside me to loud to sit the fuck down.

KinnPorsche (9/10) - Horniest and most iconic BL of 2022. Maybe I watched this one perfectly timed between shows that I didn't like. I can't tell you why I loved KinnPorsche so much, I just do.

A Tale of 1000 Stars (9/10) - EarthMix beloved. A show that touched something personal inside me. Maybe my desire to run away to the middle of nowhere and live in a little village off the grid away from it all and meet the girl of my dreams or something. A story that kicked the door down and forced me to listen.

To all the characters and stories who kept me company for the last year, thank you. I can't wait for the shows, stories, and characters I will meet this year.

2022 BL ROUNDUP PART 1

Hey y'all, I've seen everyone doing their top 22, 20, 15, 10, and 5 BLs of the year and I didn't want to do a ranking! I just want to do a quick rundown of everything I watched and how I feel about it now! This is gonna be multiple posts! But I'll post them all at the same time.

Series that Started in 2021 and ended in 2022

Mr. Cinderella (Vietnam). Oh I loved it! Loved the plot. Loved the couple dynamic of the main pair (a street thug and a doctor). Loved the drama. It was funny and soft and the dialogue was great. Some of the conversations the main couple had were completely realistic and relevant. I'd recommend it to watch. The only thing I hated was that it was low-budget, it's not anyone's fault. I just got tired of seeing Dung in the same outfit lol.

Bad Buddy (Thailand). Excellent series. I thought the plot would annoy me but were they actually ever even enemies? The only person in the series I couldn't stand was Wai, but whatever. PatPran forever, they were just *chef's kiss* Green flags everywhere. They were both very selfless for each other and also the tension??? Who makes a competition out of confessing? ALSO MILKLOVE/INKPA NATION RISE! 2023 will be their year!

Not Me (Thailand). I don't think this was actually a BL. It was very much a political drama that featured queer characters. The activism definitely outweighed the romance which was fine. Loved SeanWhite and DanYok though. Overall I found the series politically and socially relevant and thrilling to watch. It was a great series, if only to gain a little information about what's going on in Thailand.

Tinted With You (S. Korea). I personally enjoyed this little series. It kind of got buried under some better series but I loved it. My boy Jun from A.C.E starred in it and he did amazing. I loved the time travel, loved that there was a romance between 2 characters, but could also be seen as a poly relationship including the other main. Like the 3 main characters definitely seemed to come as a package deal and they all made it to the other side. It's a sweet, historical, time-travel drama and I feel I should rewatch it.

Behind Cut (S. Korea). I randomly bingewatched this series with my friend one day. It was really sweet. I don't think it was very popular though, only a few of my moots have mentioned it and there's legit like 12 gifsets on this site. I loved that it was centered around fashion. The main pair was really cute and they just had this instant attraction to each other. The 3rd wheel dude was doing the most though. I don't understand how they just stopped talking for a full 365 but other than that, it was a cute series. I think one of the mains is a kpop idol too.

Paint with Love (Thailand). I didn't finish it. Singto and Tae had a bit of chemistry but not enough for me to finish and then the plot was already dumb but it got worse. I think Yacht and Yoon had better chemistry but their SL was almost non-existent. I wanted more for the series but overall it was just 'Eh.'
