#like fandom has been so weird recently and it is a huge reason of why i havent been updating fics and stuff

dont get me wrong i am more excited for this atla remake and the inevitable renaissance part 2 than i have ever been for anything in my life. however im also terrified of what changes this is going to bring to the fandom. Obviously the 2020 renaissance brought a lot of new and good things (zukka, a ton of amazing fics, etc). But more people joining the fandom means new people joining ao3 and interacting with fics and authors and artists too. Even in the few years that i've been active in fandom i've noticed a dramatic shift in how people interact with artists and authors especially. And I can't see this not getting worse as more people whose main social media experiences include tik tok and instagram coming to ao3 and tumblr. Like these people are used to content creators who revolve their content around what their audience wants because its their job, and I know this isnt going to translate well to the culture around ao3 writers especially when unconsolidated comments and 'advise' is already a problem for a ton of authors. And for people who dont understand that fics and fanart are supposed be transactional in the sense that you need to leave comments and kudos and reblog stuff when they're used to simply liking something *maybe* being enough. Idk whats going on with other fandoms, but I do know that these things have been an ongoing issue for the atla fandom and like I said, I can't imagine having another 'renaissance' and this stuff not getting worse.

What do you think about Karen's reaction to seeing Elektra in Matt’s bed? Her response there always weirds me out: *we* know that Matt was emotionally cheating of her, if nothing else, but she has no way to know that. She sees a woman she doesn't know in Matt's bed (a woman not very healthy looking, but I can accept Karen didn't notice that), Matt fully clothed being near to her, and a weird old man staying just outside the room. Nothing in that situation looked sexual.
Then Matt offers to explain and she says no and runs off. Now, maybe she assumed he would have lied, which is fair, but she’s so curious that I would expect her to at least try to make sense about what's going on and who those people are. She jumps right to cheating, instead, and I can't see her doing that except for plot reasons.
Well, what do we mean by "assume"?
If by "assume" we mean "she concluded that the most likely explanation for the scenario is that Matt was cheating"...I don't think that's what happened.
If by "assume' we mean "she had no idea what Matt was doing, but one possibility that came to mind was cheating and she couldn't rule it out"...then yes, I think that's what happened.
And I think that's fair! A woman she'd never met before was in Matt's bed. Obviously they weren't having sex right then, but clearly Matt has a relationship of some sort with this woman, and also Matt's been lying a ton recently, and generally acting weird, so put all that together, and she can't rule out that he was cheating.
So here's what I think happened: she walked in, saw the situation, realized Matt was keeping a huge part of his life from her, and fled. Sometime between fleeing and confronting to Matt and later talking to Foggy, she obviously would've tried to come up with an explanation. The explanations she might've thought of could include:
He was literally sexually cheating right then and there;
He had some type of intimate relationship with this woman;
She was a random stranger he took pity on but decided to keep a secret for some reason;
????
Add Stick to the equation, and it's even more confusing, but Stick being present doesn't rule out the possibility that Matt's cheating - it only rules out the possibility that Matt was literally having sex then and there (which is ruled out anyway because, as you mentioned, he's fully clothed, tec.).
So. Personally. I don't think she concluded Matt was cheating (which is what a lot of the fandom seems to mean when they say she "assumed" Matt was cheating). Rather, I think she couldn't rule out the possibility that Matt was cheating.
But ultimately, whether he was or wasn't cheating wasn't the thing she spent the most time thinking about: the thing she spent the most time thinking about was the fact that Matt was lying to her yet again, and she couldn't handle a relationship with someone who kept doing that.
That's my read, anyway. What does everyone else think?
(Oh, and why did she not try to make sense of what was going on? I think you're right, that she assumed Matt wouldn't give her an honest answer. But I also think that even if he did, it would've been too little and too late by that point. She felt lied to, she felt mistrusted, she felt taken advantage of, and all of that trumped her natural curiosity, and she finally decided to cut her losses. I don't think that's out-of-character, personally, and I don't think that's a plot thing. I think that's a human thing!)

I've been missing BTS and decided to binge a few of their docu content like Break the silence, memories DVD etc. It's glaringly obvious the focus is on jkk interactions the most. Consistently across all content! If I was a fan that only viewed these videos, I would also make the judgement that JKK are the closest duo coz they are playful on stage and then always together backstage - eating, walking, traveliing in same car etc. Add to the mix when Jm said in the vminkook live as well as recent PTD docu that Jk spends hours in his room and seeks him out. That's what birthed this ship I guess.
For Tk i feel Ch 2 solidified it more for me based on personal tidbits shared by Tae and Jk on how much time they spend outside group activities. These focus hardly have Tae focus content, forget about Tk 🙄
Don't you think it's weird to reconcile the way the company content shows relationships/bonds and outside those? Like we barely see any Tk interactions on hours of this footage shown for so many years? Jkk the glued together duo didn't hang out much in Ch 2 until this travel docu for which Jm selected Jk.
Any cutesy clingy interaction shown will always be jkk in these content and it's been the same across years and diff docus. Look at the recent Beyond the star trailer and you'll again see Jk cooking and Jm beside him and then Jm clinging on to Jk. Don't see any other duo interactions like that tbh. Do you think this is done purposefully to establish a narrative?
Hi anon!
People hate when I talk business strategies, but I’m gonna 🙈.
During Suchwita recently, Tae and Yoongi mentioned how about 90 percent of footage doesn’t make the cut in In the Soop. That’s basically true for all content. What we see is what BH wants us to see. I feel BTS has some say about the kind of projects they take on, some say on what activities they do, probably a lot of say about their music, but not as much say on how things are edited after they have filmed stuff. That’s basically up to the editors, and it gets done according to pre-decided goals/lines/rules/whatevers. A company as big as BH, and especially a band as huge as BTS has a whole team of marketing, pr, image-advisors behind them, and those are the people who sit around and come up with what they want to put out. That doesn’t mean that BTS members fake the way they interact or that what we see is set up and dishonest, but there’s people deciding what we see.. so it’s filtered content. Talking about Jm and Jk, they do actually spend all that time together and they do actually enjoy their time together, it clearly shows. But it’s BH’s choice to show us them and relatively speaking less other duos.
Why more Jkk than other duos? They measure fandom reactions. They know which duos get the desired reactions and ofcourse that is what they will put into content more. Every member has their role, so you’ll get Yoongi and Namjoon for the serious stuff a lot, you get Tae being cutesy, you get Jin being funny, and you’ll get Hobi being the enthousiast… and Jk and Jm for the banter. It’s not as if those roles are fake, but they are played out a bit more. Jm and Jk are the main singers, which will also play a role. Jk and Tae cannot be shown too much, so there’s that.
Official content is always edited the way it is for a reason. There’s hours going into it, and it’s a serious matter because it is directly linked to BTS’s image.

I'm a not a huge fan of Daemon, for me the only cool things about him are his sword and dragon. A few days ago I tried to read some Daemon x reader fanfics just to see how it is and you know, maybe there is something about him that isn't...messed up. But It was exactly what I thought for the most part. It was mostly just D**myra x reader oneshots or Daemon x niece! reader fics. But I wasn't at all prepared for romantic Daemon x daughter!reader stuff and....that was just beyond weird. I can't describe it. I can't fathom how anyone can write such a thing even if it's fictional. There was also a romantic Daemyra x daughter! reader fic....this fandom is getting worse every day. The fact that it was smut just made me completely lose any interest in his character.
The state of Daemon’s fics is not that great. I had to start creating my own because they by in large just weren’t inclusive🙃(even the ones that aren’t incest, and there is still a way to make incest inclusive, have a white reader in mind, but that’s the case with most fandoms).
That being said, I may rag on this man, and I do love to read other people raging on him, but I do genuinely love Daemon Targaryen(he’s the whole reason I started writing fanfiction), I have written Daemon x niece!reader fanfic, and I’m about to start writing Daemon with one(or both) of his daughters…
Tumblr media
As a self-proclaimed Daemon stan, he’s the type of character who you either love or you hate.
He is admittedly a psycho(well his show! counterpart has been shown in not the best light and that’s what most of these fics are based on), but he’s got charisma. He’s charming. He has this dark aura about him and there is something so alluring about that darkness.
I mean think of all the other fictional bad boys that have a large fanbase or massive appeal because of their dark and brooding ways. In recent years you’ve got Draco Malfoy, Prince Zuko, Edward Cullen, The Darkling, Namor, Massimo from 365 Days, and Kylo Ren(and now Daemon and Aemond). Go even further back and you have characters like Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre and the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.
These guys are not “good guys” by any stretch of the imagination. Most of them are terrible people(or at least unpleasant) who in real life you should probably avoid. However, their darkness is appealing, and at the center of most of these stories is a woman who has captured this beastly man’s attention and love(and has changed him in a way).
Now as far as his “fanbase”(they are by and large Dumbnyra stans which is why I stay on my island 🏝️ now) leaning into the whole incest /blood supremacy theme, yeah a lot of it is low-key creepy. I may be hypocritical saying it, but the way they do it doesn’t seem normal especially when you take into account how they treat certain characters like Nettles(who is the one who changes him in canon, but they dislike her and want to acknowledge her importance to him due to her not looking like them😙).
I’ll leave it off by saying if you dislike Daemon most of his fics aren’t going to make you like him because of the nature of the content. No one is trying to show him in a good light. His appeal is in the fact that he’s this powerful temperamental brute of a man that their chosen self-insert (s) “tames”🤷🏽‍♀️

why is everyone against bernard being the question guy wouldn’t it bring more to berdnard anyways
Mmm there are a lot of reasons personally for me! I’m gonna go ahead and say I’m incredibly biased and DC’s recent choices have my eye twitching.
1. Renee deserves to continue as The Question. DC has done this thing again, where an effective and exciting woman hero gets shifted backwards and we just lose all character development for no reason at all. This isn’t the first time DC has done this and it certainly won’t be the last time unfortunately. I’d like to see it fixed tbh and I’d like to see her back in the mask!
2. The Question seems to get just the title of a “conspiracy theorist” which is what I see B*tfam Stans using as a reason as apparently Bernard has had this trait, but that’s a huge misconception (mostly because of JLU love it though) sure he works with conspiracies but mostly because they are linked to corruption, which is really what he actually handles most of the time. Along with Renee! He just happens to be really cryptic about it, giving him that mysterious ‘crack pot’ vibe. That’s the purpose of The Question though. To go where the person behind the mask can’t, to stop the corruption at its core.
3. The DC comic verse has done enough sacrificing other characters for the b*tfam honest to god. Ppl are getting really tired of it. There has been plenty of this talk outside of the b*tfamily circle but it’s generally missed by them because they tend to stay in their circle. Which is totally fine! That’s their space, but the rest of the families/fandoms are irked. The way multiple characters have been altered and changed just to fit along that family is A LOT in the N52/Rebirth situation. The rest of the characters in DC are not responsible for Bernard being more interesting. If writers want him to be interesting they ought to just develop him as a person? Renee doesn’t deserve to lose the mantle because y’all want Tim’s boyfriend to be a cool conspiracy guy
4. If y’all want to see this, write fanfiction about it? That’s what fanfiction is for. What I don’t want is it being pushed at DC because A LOT of writers right now are waaaay too involved in fandom spaces rn (which I find highly unprofessional. Like I’m not saying you can’t be a fan, obviously I would prefer that, but starting fights with fans, beefing over Twitter, and using your power in these comic companies to run over others opinions and or steal ideas from fans is weird) and they do take from it. T*m T*ylor.
5. I think it would actually crush me to see Renee lose the mantle because of fandom space after Vic (who is one of my favorite characters) trusted her with it. The person who has it now respects Vic and the meaning behind the mask, because that very much matters when it comes to The Question, instead of just “lol conspiracies 🤪🤪”
6. If I remember correctly isn’t Vic back confusingly? With the whole Manhattan Flashpoint mess (please don’t ask me to explain I literally never understand the flashpoint LMFAOOO) So if Renee really is done with the mask… and Vic Sage is literally right there (I think) and about a million times better than Bernard would ever be at being The Question since he is literally the original, why should he? Bernard has literally done nothing to prove he would be better than either of these characters or has really done anything to show he deserves the mantle.

12 for the ask game? Any fandom you want!
yay!!!!
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
HAH!!!!
For Adventure Time - It's Princess Bubblegum and I have a multitude of reasons, but I'm also going with Lumpy Space princess.
The reason I like LSP is because she's very funny and contradictory. She's a huge asshole but sometimes she has this weird innocence like BMO. She gets so passionate about the weirdest things. We rewatched Elements recently and she was great there. I think LSP's best scene is in the episode Bad Timing where she has her monologue about why she is Like That, she throws herself wholeheartedly into things because the payoff is True Love, and then she molotov bombs the candy kingdom castle. But if LSP has those adventure time sparkle eyes, it's going to be an incredible scene. And she seems to genuinely believe all the shit she says.
For She-ra - Perfuma!!! I think this post I made last year sums up my thoughts on Perfuma.
But it's also Shadow Weaver. I think she's a fantastic character, such a huge asshole but somehow multifaceted, and that's in a large part because of Lorraine Toussant's excellent voice acting. To be fair I think most people understand Shadow Weaver's brilliant manipulative character, but the hatred for the kind of person she represents tends to overshadow the fact she has some twisted love for Catra and Adora. I wrote a comment about her this morning:
It's possible to have multifaceted reasons for taking action on something without it meaning you're a hero. Shadow Weaver definitely felt some kind of love for Adora and Catra. It was a very twisted and cruel kind of love, but her sacrifice is also a twisted expression of that love. I also think Micah played a part, she felt genuinely care for Micah and didn't want to destroy him. She wanted power but she refused to admit that even to herself. When Weaver was walking with Castaspella, she instructed her to stop her if she tried to take the power for herself. I think, that means something. That means by this stage Weaver was developing some kind of self awareness, that her thirst for power could result in the end of the world, something she was claiming to prevent. Perhaps being faced with Prime made Weaver start to realise what kind of villain she is - they're not very different. Weaver also was hit by this again when Adora stumbled off to save Catra. "Don't leave me here!!" - She was so tempted by the power, and so shocked at that temptation, that she didn't want to be left alone near the Heart. She couldn't trust herself not to use it. It's after everything with these moments, and everything with Adora telling her that she'll never trust her, that Weaver will never be seen as a hero, that I think Weaver decides that she can only do two things - She continue to exist as a villain, perhaps dooming the world in the process and ending up as a huge hypocrite, or she can finally choose to protect Catra and Adora and do something good for them once in her life. Then, maybe, if she has done something like this for them, they can't hate her. Right? She isn't planning on sticking around long enough to find out. It's not a redemption arc, nor is it the complete absence of one. It's a deconstruction of a redemption arc. It's pretty much the same thing Catra tried to do in Corridors, but while Catra finally got the strength to apologise and survived her sacrifice and had to live through the consequences, Weaver said "you're welcome" and escaped through death. This would've been Catra's bad end.

hello! I once heard the opinion that the zutara fandom (the loudest and most toxic part of it, of course, we are not talking about normal people who just enjoy their ship) has features of cultist, sectarian thinking and organization. I haven't thought about it much, but recently a friend of mine who understands quite a lot about cults and sects and to whom I showed the most popular zutara blogs and their meta tags here, tumblr (I didn't push him on this idea, we were just chatting about fandoms) said that according to the type of thinking zutara's fandom has features of a religious cult. this thought seemed interesting to me. what do you think about it?
I'd say it's true, but it does not apply solely to Zutara, or even to the ATLA fandom.
I lost count of how many times I've seen some legit insane news here in Brazil about angry fans of some soccer team violently beating, or straight up murdering, people that were wearing the "wrong" t-shirt after a game.
Harry Potter had the weird thing with the Snape wives, and now has the current cult-like TERF bullshit JK Rowlling encourages on a daily basis.
One of my cousins is VERY into K-pop and told me some WILD shit about some idols literally have to sign contracts that forbid them from dating (or at least publicly dating) anyone because half of the marketing around their persona is "You, regular person, could totally date them!" and faced some ABSURD backlash, including death threats towards them and their partners, when they were revealed to be in a relationship.
Anything, no matter how mundane, can be used by some disturbed people to excuse/encourage awful behavior. It's usually a result of desperate, lonely people needing to find ANYTHING that makes them feel like they belong, are part of a group, of a community, to the point that they shut off from anything else and become obsessed. That kind of thing has always existed, but BOY, has the internet made it sooooooooooo much worse.
I mean, seriously, just look at the things the "extreme" zutara fans do.
Creating whole conspiracies to justify why their was totally canon until some evil authority screwed it over, lying about anything and everything that happened both in canon and in the making of the show, even going as far as creating fake "evidence" of some huge power struggle between Bryke and other writers (mainly Ehasz).
Harrassing, bullying, doxxing and threatening anyone that has a different opinion, and justifying their actions with "Oh, but the people were doing this to ship Kataang/Maiko, which means they're all raging mysogynists, rape apologists, and 100% against interracial relationships."
The constant claims of "Bryke are creepy pedos because they only pushed Kataang because they are attracted to Katara, a cartoon character, and thus are attracted to real-life 14-year-olds! That's even the real reason why Aang is bald! To look like one of them!" that are not only ridiculous but could EASILY lead to a lawsuit, and ignores the fact that Zutara, like any popular ship, has tons of smut of it even though both characters are underage - make it make sense!
And, of course, the classic "This bad behavior people accused some of us of is completely false! I didn't see it, so it didn't happen! Nobody here would do that! Never one of us! Must have been one of them, the evil fans of kataang/maiko/(insert any ship for either Zuko or Katara here)!"
Some of the bad apples in the Zutara fandom are just entitled assholes, but I'm also pretty sure that some of these people legit need to see a mental health professional. There's being passionate about a ship and being upset that it didn't happen, and then there's being downright delusional.
And before anyone tries to pull the ableism card on me: I've been through this shit. Thankfully I've never reached the point of ever harming anyone in any way, but I was a mentally ill child/teenager that just latched onto the media I liked, and it made it my whole life.
I had full on panic attacks because the power went out and I couldn't watch my favorite TV show, and I'd cry for DAYS when something bad happened to my favorite characters. I legit started showing signs of depression because one of my favorite bands had broken up, to the point that my parents were really fucking scared. I got FURIOUS at an annoying classmate in school who talked shit about my favorite singer, to the point that I legit had to get away from them as fast as humanly possible because I was three seconds away from starting a physical fight - again, all because a random kid whose opinion on literally anything else wouldn't have meant a damn thing to me.
That is not being passionate. That is not being a loyal fan. That is a clear sign that something is VERY wrong and that you need some help FAST. See a therapist, deal with whatever it is that is pushing you to act like that, THEN engage in fandom stuff as much as you want. But don't ever make this your whole personality.

Is it possible Kaylor broke up in 2016 but got back together? 6 year relationship. e.g. Blind Item of Kar moving out + love triangle; Maybe Tay had a rebound (Tily?). Taylor gets mad at Jack as soon as he questions her Betty explaination (Long Pond). She likes it that the songs feel like a SORRY. Why? She also says James was a fool. As soon as Jack questions it, she gets mad and tell him he was a fool and almost lost the love of his life. What do you think?
hi anon! thank you for your question.
i think that for me, when i was earlier on in my kaylor journey back in 2018 and the most recent album was reputation, things felt a little more up in the air to me, or that, they should be, for the sake of a sort of empirical ideal of fairness. but after observing things about the girls and the dynamics of the fandom for 4-5 years, and having listened to 4 more albums of music, the idea that they have just been together this whole time has only come to feel more and more solid. not that this is something they would ever fully reveal.
so while i think there are aspects of taylor and karlie’s relationship that were lost in 2016, and for very obvious reasons, i don’t really subscribe to the idea that they broke up at some point. moreso that they decided to mask their relationship and board up the public aspects of it, and have had to deal with how hard that is to do!
and i think there is a growing collection of songs that describe this process. but i feel like that would make this post far too long so i will leave that as something for later ☺️
i mulled over what parts of your ask to give attention to but presently i’m just going to focus on one thing
the six year relationship thing (i’m assuming you mean her explanation of lavender haze) can be two things, in my opinion. for one, it could just be her describing a relationship with karlie longer than 6 years via the details of her narrative with joe (although she actually doesn’t even say his name in the clip), and i think it’s perfectly acceptable for her to do so given the idea that they are bearding, that’s kind of one of the points or features of bearding. to use the bearding to mask the real relationship. for me the takeaway from this clip is that she’s talking about a many year present tense relationship, which i think was a huge admission!
but maybe this is an unsatisfactory explanation and so if we are going to take a look at what else the 6 year length could refer to, i would submit to you the grammar argument: she specifically says “for 6 years we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff” which grammatically speaking does not define the full length of the relationship. it is her saying that the past 6 years have been hard. and if we subtract 6 years from album release you neatly get autumn 2016, when the US presidential election was, when trump was elected, when karlie got tied up in the political situation, and what marked the transition of taylor and karlie’s public relationship from being bffs to enemies, which was a narrative spurred on by… weird rumors and tabloid stuff! 6 years ago also matches up with glitch’s 2190 days of our love blackout. i also think it’s the same as the love lock down.
basically i just think everything she has given us has contributed to this idea that she’s had one girl in her story and that their story incurred something calamitous in 2016. this narrative truly only fits one person, and it fits one person so damn well.

having been on twitter myself and very recently left it, i would for sure agree that there's more timmy fans who come for tom, it escalated like mad over the past couple years. of course there's good timmy stans because i am friends with some of them, but it's so so strange how i think that among their fandom some have really made dunking on tom normal and acceptable. the proof of this can be seen when there's a hate tweet for tom made by a timmy stan, there are lots of likes on it from people within the timmy fandom. but on the flip side, when there's a rare tom fan hating on timmy, the tweet has less likes and more quote retweets calling them out or arguing in the comments. at least for toms fandom that seems to signal a less toxic fandom, i get the sense that most of the stans don't really care about the drama and just want to keep on vibing. i don't know what it is that those types of people who get so mean are big fans of timmy, it's certainly not a reflection on him since he's never encouraged that behavior. you're right destiny when you say he'd cringe if he knew what some of his fans say.
i don't know why timmy's fandom is like that, they shouldn't really be feeing insecure, but there's just a sect of his fans that really delight n dragging others down. it's really weird to me, i'm not sure if more of them are younger or cliqueish and that leads to the behavior or what. i'm glad that there's a really open discussion on this page about it bc it's one of the reasons i left twitter i was so done with the constant negativity on tom and also z from the normie dudebro side of twitter. there's a really nice supportive community on there for tz stans, but unfortunately it's just not the greatest for someone sensitive like me. something i've noticed, though, it is hard to stay away from twitter now!! i feel like i got so used to checking it that i almost have an 'itch' now that i'm off my account and deleted the app off my phone. i don't really want to call it an addiction but it feels pretty similar to it, i think the sense i'm getting from a lot of your anons is that people upset by twitter have got to step away from it. if you feel a compulsion to check it like i did, that's a big red flag that it would be a good idea to step away. another thing im glad of is tom speaking up about taking social media breaks. i truly cant imagine what it would be like to read such negative things about yourself or a loved one, so im glad he has the self awareness to step away. this is the longest anon message i've ever written but i love the thoughts you have on this kind of thing destiny, its good to see some honest talk about how fandoms can effect us. fandoms should be for fun so if yall arent having fun for sure reassess!
Thanks for your input Anon 😊
I honestly don't know much about Timmy's fandom tbh, so I can't really speak much on it, but just based on what some of you have said, it just seems to be a huge sense of insecurity on their end? 🤷🏾‍♀️
I mean, if you're solidly sure of your fave, and you think he's the best (or whatever), you won't feel the need to bring down OTHER actors. I keep saying this.
The fact that SOME (notice I said some) of his fans seem to need to put down Tom all the time just gives me the impression that they must view Tom as some kind of a threat. If they didn't, they wouldn't be behaving that way imo.🤷🏾‍♀️
That's my psychoanalysis for the day lol.
Re: Twitter...
Yea, if you're finding it difficult to quit ANYTHING, then technically it is an addiction.... whether you realize it or not. 👀 If you feel anxious or uneasy when you leave social media or delete the app after a few days, then yea, you're addicted lol 😆
You should be able to leave social media alone and feel completely FINE, and not feel like you're "missing out" on anything. You really should be able to live your life without being "plugged in" all the time. 👀
Jmho 🤷🏾‍♀️
I most definitely urge fans to just delete the app and take at least a week off and see how you feel! 🙏🏾 The great thing about this is that the longer you stay away from smthg, the less and less you will feel the urge to be on it.

Hey it’s L again! Or it’s actually O but I managed to write that whole long ask without checking I signed off with the right letter but, from now on… O!!
Wow thank you so much for your lovely response — especially that bit about your writing being for me (aros & abusive survivors first hell yeah) that was so ridiculously sweet. I fully cannot wait until you post literally anything but especially that episode tag you mentioned !!!! It’s something for me to look forward too and I’ll definitely be all up in your inbox probably crying about it once you do
It’s genuinely so validating to be agreed with about all the post 2.08 stuff and the 3.02 stuff because I felt a little insane about it. Like sometimes I try and force myself to react more normally to media around these sort of things but knowing you’re feeling some of the same feelings about it too makes me go no !!! Good reaction !!! Feel something about it !!!
I do still genuinely love both of those episodes though — “I forgot how skittish elderly people could be because of the war” made me laugh out loud. And Jamie literally saying “hmmmm” with his very *sad* sad face was so relatable. He’s so strange sometimes
Anyways, just thought I’d pop in and say hi and thanks!! Oh and how are you ?!!
- O
hey hey!!! great to see you again, i'm always like, relieved to find out someone saw the answer meant for them
i really do love knowing that my writing has made it to the audience it's meant for tbh. like of course it's meant for anyone who wants to read it, and i'm always thrilled to pieces no matter what to hear that something i've written was enjoyed or was meaningful to someone it's like. this is WHY i wrote it yknow, and why i needed stories like it, etc. means a lot :')
and yeah no same i always feel like, anxious and weird whenever i have an Opinion About Media and it is a WAR with my brain ghosts to get to like, expressing a thought at all ever but i like to think i'm getting better with that! helps to not be In Fandom i think. worry of getting yelled at for whatever reason goes way down lmao. and yeah same like, i try to Be Chill but at the end of the day everyone's gonna have their things, right, their Pet Issues or Hills To Die On or whatever. it's fine if i have mine, and it's fine for you to have yours too!
the "elderly people" line made me laugh so fucking hard, the delivery on it like. killed me. he is SO strange and it's honestly one of my fave things about him, it's a lot of fun XD i simply love a character who's a little weirdo
and as for ME i'm good honestly!!! now that my ordeal with the border is all resolved i feel like a completely different person lmao, a huge weight is gone off me. now i just need to finish a couple of 7k term papers and get ready for some final exams. a friend and i actually also recently started the series together in our weekly tv date and it's been so exciting and fun to get to watch it all over with someone who knows absolutely nothing and is loving it so far. i hope you've been well!!

✨🌻💝 for the fic writer ask :)
Thanks for the ask, @lilolilyr! Here is the orignal post.
✨What's a fic you've posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit)
I have two answers for this. (As you all probably noticed) I've recently become fixated on the X-Files, but before that it was Star Trek: Voyager, so most of my fic is for that show. But I'll give one from each, because it's hard for me to consolidate the two. I was in a very different mental space writing Voyager (circa 2015-2017) than I am today.
For The X-Files: Keys,Wallet, Phone. It's the first one I wrote for this fandom, and it's very different than anything I'd written before. One of the asks on here was 'which fic would you like to be a podfic?' and this one would be my answer as well. It has a lyrical quality that I really like and I think would be great read aloud.
For Voyager: My baby, The Lament of a Daughter. This is all B'Elanna backstory... the culminations of years and years of thinking about this character. This, and The Sea of Gatan are probably some of the best things I ever wrote.
🌻what makes you want to give up on writing? what makes you keep going?
What makes me give up? Two things: anxiety and lack of head space.
For the anxiety bit, this is why I stopped writing in 2017. Trying to improve and what not was just driving me insane. This is also why, despite the fact I want to, I'll likely not participate in exchanges. When the prompt is right, it's magic. But man, it can really get to me if I can't think of anything. So this time around I've been posting things unbetaed (which likely leads to way more typos, sorry) but this has really been a path back to joy for me. Just write and release.
On lack of head space: I have a job that could consume every moment of my life if I let it. I have an idea for an original novel, which I started writing, but I found my mind was always preoccupied with it, and I wasn't thinking about my research (and therefore not making progress.) So, I don't really know what to do about that. The problem is less one of time, and more about have to pick and choose what I think about. (Which might be a weird problem to have.) It seems to work better for me to write short things to get the idea out of my head, and then move on. I am looking forward to a stage in my life where this won’t be an issue anymore.
Moving on to what makes me keep going: it’s fun (if I'm not busy being my own worse enemy). I like getting my thoughts out of my head and I like the reaction others have to those thoughts. Most of my stories are about something that is going on in my life, so it’s cathartic (or amusing, depending on what it is) to put OTP of the week in those situations. Sometimes I wonder if I could write professionally, but I do that would remove the fun and the joy. I do like my job, but there are for sure times that are NOT joyful.
💝what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
Well, I didn't expect people to like Qualifying Life Events this much! I wrote it in like an hour on Monday when the internet went out, so I couldn't do work. (Well, really, I should have been reviewing papers, which were saved on my computer, but see above comment on not concentrating on work so well these days.) In general, all the pieces I’ve quickly written and posted have been way more enjoyed than I expected. They tend to be silly little things (ex: The Case of the Nip Slip, The Joy of Cooking, and the above-mentioned Qualifying Life Events). I have other pieces that took way more effort, but they are just as enjoyed as the short silly ones. So, I think it’s been freeing to break the association of my effort to other people’s enjoyment (which is probably a capitalistic way of looking at things, anyway).
(Aside: for some reason, the tumblr editor isn’t spell checking, which is a huge issue for me. So I had to write this elsewhere and paste it in and Tumblr was being a dick… Why is this editor so bad?)

wait about your most recent post, is it directed to those fans making a huge deal out of it? Because I don't understand why people are acting like a terrible crime has been committed with this information. Yes, it's weird that info was added (when it really shouldn't have been) but the stuckies are going crazy.
It’s directed at the fandom in general. The Stuckies for acting like their ship has been violated when their ship never existed within the canon, so there was nothing to violate. The Steggies for taking it as this huge hit when the man literally came across time to be with her, she’s his canon soulmate, so what’s the big deal if he had sex with some girl before they were even working together? Especially since it was never actually confirmed he lost it to Peggy.
Just everyone who’s acting, for whatever reason, like it’s the Hail Hydra moment from the comics, and this soul shattering thing that maybe this guy had sex 80 years ago instead of saving himself for insert soulmate of choice.
Even if you want to take his “right partner” thing as completely binding, and related to sex, again, why would Bruce know this? 50/50 odds, I say, that it was just a thing he made up to mess with his cousin.

Fandom sometimes needs to sit their ass down and chill... part 2
Decided to put this one in a separate post because its directed at a different fandom.
Hazbin Hotel.
No its not about expecting demons to be decent people this time...and its mainly criticism directed at the subreddit where some fans have decided to find a bunch of plot holes where there are none because they didn't actually watch the show...
Or something I've been seeing more of recently... people expecting this to be a direct adaptation of the Bible.
A question that keeps popping up is "How is Adam the first human soul in Heaven when he had a son who died before him??"
Referring of course to Abel, of Cain and Abel fame. God's favorite boi because he scarified meat instead of vegetables...so his brother got jealous and murdered him. Presumably Adam was still alive a this point as he went on to have another child.
Hazbin Hotel makes no mention of this... so there's no reason to belive it even happened. Hazbin Hotel borrows some characters from Abrahamic myths, but it has never advertised itself as a 1 to 1 adaptation of the Bible.
It would feel kinda awkward if Sera referred to Adam as "the second human soul in heaven after his kid who got brutally murdered by his own brother but we're not gonna talk about him ever because he's not important to the plot", that'd just be confusing to any fan who isn't familiar with that particular story. Making the bible required reading for an adult cartoon is a little weird.
Its easier to just ignore that story entirely if its not gonna be important to the plot.
Lilith isn't in the bible either.
Shocker I know... She was invented way later, maybe as a reason to explain why in Genesis 1 God creates man and woman at the same time but afterwards he creates Eve separately... Any mention of the name "Lilith" in the old testament doesn't seem to refer to a human, but is mentioned more like the name of a species... some scholars belive it was a bird, or possibly even some kind of demon that may or may not have been important to early Hebrews...or they borrowed the word from some other religion. Happened a lot back on the day.
I look at it more like Disney's Hercules. It borrows the names and general concept of the Greek Pantheon (but changes Hercules' name to the Roman one for some reason...) but does the story in a widly different way...I've never seen someone call out the lack of Hercules/Heracles's brother Iphicles as a huge plot hole in that film... yes he had a brother... or the fact that it features Zeus not as a massive perv with no respect for marriage, whether its his own or his great-granddaughter... Yea that's right... Harecles' mother was also Zeus' great-granddaughter... and that's not even the worst case of incest committed by the King of the Greek Gods...
Same with Hazbin. It borrows some of the characters, that doesn't mean they'll borrow the whole mythology... even if it sometimes would be interesting if they did.... they had 8 episodes... probably wouldn't have time to touch on Adam's messed up sons. Its too busy focusing on how bad both his marriages went.
My point is if you keep expecting creators do do something specific that they never promised they would...don't get mad at them when they don't do that thing... Its not their fault your expectations were wildly different from their plans.

This has been on my mind as my other big fandom post has been going around.
A long time ago in a fandom I am no longer part of (for a variety of reasons we won't talk about here), I was told that I was a snob. I remember very clearly that I was sitting in my car with a person I knew from said fandom, outside an arena where we were about to attend a concert; the doors hadn't opened yet and we were both from out of town, so we had time to kill.
At the time, Livejournal was the main spot where fandom communities gathered. I used my LJ to post both personal stuff and fandom things, with custom filters so that my private stuff stayed private. Many people followed each other and did similar things, so that one would have a robust reading page (similar to a dash or timeline, but there was no reblog/retweet kinda feature) while also posting to community pages with community-specific posts: i.e. if it was a knitting community, you'd post your latest knitting projects. I liked it because I am a shy and private person who doesn't do a lot of outward engagement, so it was easy to connect with other fans.
Right around that particular moment, an anonymous hate LJ had also risen in popularity. Someone would start a post, leaving the comments open for anyone to respond, whether or not they had an account, and you could reply without logging in. It was hugely popular. And incredibly cruel. I cannot overemphasize the astonishing meanness of the posts. You'd get sort of a prompt post with the name of someone active in a certain fandom, and people would fucking tear them apart.
You may guess, from the way I'm describing it, that I really didn't like the practice. I went through the trenches of people attacking others online on web forums, and I didn't want any part of it.
(As an aside, I want to clearly state that people in a fandom never have to be the bestest of friends at all times. That's an impossible ask, and as well it's frankly unrealistic. You're never going to get along with every single other person who occupies a social space with you. But you don't have to be nasty, either. When I realized that people can just exist without having to particularly like each other, it changed my worldview.)
So there's this anon meme. And the person who was sitting in the passenger seat of my car told me how she'd seen my name on there and how I was perceived in fandom as being an arrogant snob who thought she was too good to interact with everyone else.
I had turned anon replies off in my journal after getting a few comments that creeped me out. I knew there were people who enjoyed interacting with anons, but I was never one of them. I didn't always comment on others' fandom posts, or on their fic. I kept to myself a lot, but I had a few really good friends within the fandom, people I did feel comfortable interacting with. I didn't make public posts about my private life. I guess not talking is the equivalent of being snobby and rude just as much online as it is in real life. (It didn't help that I wrote a lot of fic and was pretty well-known in the fandom.)
Why am I saying all this? I guess because even then, it felt like people wanted to make some kind of weird separation between those who make fanworks and those who don't.
This came up in tags and such on the other post, and it still baffles me. It was never quite as bad back then, but in recent years, when fandom got hacked and stolen by corporations, it's way worse. It almost feels now like there are three tiers in fan content:
The actual creators of the media. The writers, the artists who draw the comics and do the animation. The directors. The songwriters and performers. The actors. The video game creators. Those who legitimately get paid money to make the things we read and watch and listen to.
The fan creatives. Those who write the fanfic, who draw the fanart, who make the fanvids and meta-analyses. Those who create the challenges and big bangs even the zines. Yes, and those who make the gifsets and edits.
Everyone else in the fandom who doesn't contribute to fanworks, but takes in the media as well as the fanworks.
And I'm here to tell you that, no matter what corporations or fandom.com or Those On High try to tell you, that is not the case. There are two tiers.
Those who make the media. (#1 above)
Everyone who loves the media. This includes both those who make fanworks and those who do not.
That's right! We're all swimming in the same pool! All of us. And yes, in some cases those who make the media are not separate from the fans who enjoy it, but there is a distinction. And yes of course there are media creators who are also fans of other things (certain writers I follow on here who love other TV shows and so forth) but when they're loving the same stuff we are, we're still all in the same pool.
My point is that, as a fanwork creator, I am no better than, say, my BFF in the whole world, who generally is an enjoyer without feeling the need to add on in some way. I am definitely not better than you for making stuff, nor are you better than me for not. We're all fans, enjoying the same stuff in our own ways. I might feel inspired to write a few words; you might enjoy making headcanons while daydreaming. (And as someone who both draws and writes, one type of creator is not better than another).
So please, remember that fanwork creators are not """"above"""" any other fan. Which is just one of the many reasons why no one should feel weird about commenting on fics or reblogging art. We are truly all in it together.
(You may notice I did not use the terms "content creator" or "consumer" in this. You can be assured there is a very strong reason for that.)
K I'm going back to FFVII Rebirth now. I need to go find a missing chocobo.

Hey there, how are you doing? Did you see the video of Tae and Jeannie. They’re dating and have been for sometime. What do you feel about all that? I think that’s the reason why Vmin have been acting strange lately.
Okay so let's talk about the elephant in the room.
HUGE DISCLAIMER I am not sorry for my own opinions, I am probably a terrible person and I don't care. I speak myself even if I say things people will hate me for this.
First of all, I am really disappointed and angry and sad about all this situation either if it is staged/fake or if it's true. It was horribly handled and it comes out now in a time where Tae will probably release his solo so I don't even know if this was made for good publicity or it will only ignite ship/fandom wars and for that I feel terrible for him. He already had had a lot of hate for nothing, was disrespected by the company from day 1, because that move of revealing him one day before debut why, people spent months getting to know BTS through their logs and there it is a guy who couldn't even show his face and it is put out there praying fans will accept him. But I'm digressing, my problem is that I can't let things go and I can't forget. Sue me.
Secondly, I thought the photos from last year were all photoshopped and it was cleared out. Those were so well made but again at that time I was like "how bold of them to publish those stuff and be like together like this without anyone saying anything, nor even the crew around them" so for me the situation was finished. This one for me is still very fishy fishy. Tae is very proper and acts always in a very professional way, he might have been very blunt and unspoken many times with his own thought and feelings (we know also to whom 💜) but this stunt was just unbelievable to me. Why doing it all of a sudden? I will list things that don't add up for me 1) all the story of one photographer who was there and recognized them and asked the bodyguard/manager and they said sure you can film but go up the hill so you don't bother them. 2) as someone mentioned, the audio of the video is weird, it's like this person was on a tree or something and the audio was perfect, you can hear the steps like they were 1 meter apart but everything is blurry anyway 3) the autograph part that everyone finds a the SOLID proof. Well how can we be sure those were armys and he was really Tae, to those who said that the video was said to be taken around 5pm in Paris and at that time it is not so dark, the said photographer said that in fact it happened on Monday at like 11pm but was not published for their safety. so why armys were there? 4) this is not Tae normal behaviour and this is something that could have stirred an uproar in a time where BTS are doing stuff and there has been already many problematic fan things (we lost jk lives recently like thank you mental people)
Last of all and this is my own personal problem and I don't expect people to understand, in years I got the impression that Tae was not only an ally but part of the LGBT community and that thought was very comforting. I think his personality was so unique and free that he could one day come out if he wanted of course and change that fucking medieval idea about LGBT people SK has. thank god we have Holland. And yes of course my dream was for him and Jimin to be open and in love and spend their life together.
I don't want to say anything given that nothing is official, the other time too nothing has been said and in the end everything was fake. If this is real I'm disappointed on how it was showed to us without any explanation, if it's fake things have to be done to protect him.
I'm not in the "I'm so happy for them" "it's their life they can do whatever they want" "you are all delulu shipper/ you are all delulu because you wanted to be his gf" No. I have never wanted to be his gf, I don't like this relationship, I still love Taehyung as before and forever and ever but I'm a little disappointed and sad.
That's me. Feel free to write me your opinions in a very nice way if you can and talk to me if you feel the same. Take care 💜

I hate that swifties just turned against Joe without any actual evidence and when the pictures of him looking rough came out, they were celebrating and going after his looks (like they are doing with Matty) and it made me want to punch them (not literally) and I'm not part of the fandom at all, it simply was trending on twitter and checked what happened. And now recently they've been putting Matty against Joe and while the majority is hyping Joe up again simply because they hate Matty, the ones who prefer Matty instead also get on my nerves because they are like "he's problematic but at least he displays affection publicly" and the reason why that upsets me so much is because everyone likes really shy introverts when they need someone they can trust but then suddenly we're "cold" and "too reserved" and "should change" the minute we're no longer useful and seeing those tweets just makes me so fucking sad because I am so quiet in public and I really don't do the whole PDA thing but my heart is feeling with love for the people I'm close with and I sympathize with how Joe must be feeling. There was a video going around of Joe at her show and you can see the heart eyes filled with emotion but you can also see that he's so shy and anxious about being in public.
And people being like "she deserves more" has broken my heart. it just triggered something in me. Everyone who's just a little bit like Joe knows the feeling of dating an extrovert or simply someone with a lot of friends and trying so hard to overcome our limitations and still seeing our efforts being ignored. And then people acting like Taylor did him a huge favor for dating him because in their heads "no way she'd be truly happy with someone like that"... We're not all bad, we've got our flaws but we deserve love too and we've got a lot of love to give... (sorry this is more like a personal rant)
As the self-appointed queen of introverts, I completely agree with you. In fact, now you're making me wonder if that's the reason I like joe? haha. I had never psychoanalyzed my soft spot for him, but, when you mentioned the videos of Joe standing in the audience and watching Taylor, you reminded me of a moment from my teens when we were at some big family party and...well, I get anxious asking the Barista for a straw at starbucks, I'm not a dancer. So, I was just kind of in the corner, clapping. much like Joe is in that clip, still having a good time in my own lil way, and my mom came up to me and gave me this whole ass speech about how I don't know how to have fun, lol.
BUT, whatever the swifties or Joe haters say, the facts speak for themselves. Fact: This has been Taylor's longest ever relationship. Fact: she literally wrote him a song that says "people think loves for show but i would die for you in secret." Is that not the best response to these idiots? Fact: she said she'd give him a child if he wanted. Does that sound like someone who isn't truly happy? Fact: one of her songs promises to marry him with paper rings even though she "likes shiny things." If the literary scholars who analyze every single word she writes and its meanings are ignoring these facts, it's because they're looking for someone to hate. Doesn't matter. Taylor and Joe know the love that they shared.
In fact, I'm feeling kind of the opposite haha. people are hating on joe's introverted nature now that he's left Taylor, but im enjoying Matty's weird nervousness around her friends now that he's enter her space. Sure he's sweet when he dances and wears her merch, but what's more important is that he's unsure and out of his element but trying his best anyway. which is how I feel in all social situations hahahaha.
everyone is just trying to get through this miserable life giving love and hoping to receive it in return. why would we make things extra hard on each other by comparing partners or deciding what Taylor should value or whatever? its dumb and pointless and breeds misery.
