I'm honestly partial to Derek in red in general. And purple. And green. Look, he's just REALLY PRETTY, okay? And the wardrobe department, God bless them, knew EXACTLY how to dress Hoechlin to maximize the pretty. Seriously... give those people ALL THE AWARDS.
I think, in terms of overall looks (like clothes + hair + whatever else), S4 Derek might be my favorite? They finally let him get properly beardy and hairy-chested and put him in lots of pretty colors that complement his eyes.
I'm also a BIG fan of S6 Derek... even though he's only in it for all of about 15 minutes total, lol.
Basically, the later in the show it is, the hotter he gets, imo.

Demon Outfits Discussed
The wait is over :) thank you for your patience and all the lovely comments on the casual discussion!!
I feel like it got longer this time, so I hope it’s all an enjoyable read!  Also, I apologize for the ugly pictures--it was the easiest and fastest way to both have all the design in one image and also prevent it from stretching so far.
Like last time, please don’t take this too seriously; we love these boys and Justin doesn’t know them but has no grudges against them.  We’re just harping on their fashion sense.  Absolutely no hate is intended towards the boys or the design team!
Participants in the discussion were
Jo ( @jodaneko ), our art major with storyboarding/character design experience, who finds they have more in common with Satan each passing day.
Justin ( @justinlester0629 ), our fashion expert, who dressed up and filled a wine glass with water for the occasion.
Noodle (Me), our untrained eye who owns the Barbie as the Island Princess video game on three different platforms.  It’s not even that good.
Featuring emergency guest star Megan ( @maggo77​ ), my sister who is physically near me as we look at the backs of their designs for the first time.
Edit: Distracted by the pretty jacket, we made a mistake when putting in Levi’s silhouette rating.  It’s the worst.  2/10, not 6.

Jo has realized that based on both outfits, Lucifer doesn’t want people looking at his butt.  Possible reasons are: he doesn’t have one, or Diavolo someone was getting distracted.
His shoes match his outfit.  After last time that’s all I care about.
A triple popped color, and how many layers is the middle one?  Is that a book?  Dude has like 27 collars.
The forehead diamond is very important and it’s great that there are diamond buttons to match it.  But uh.  How about those red diamonds on his sleeves.  They.  They sure are there.  (I actually like the red accents and that they match his gloves; I just can’t take the diamonds seriously.)

The peacock motif is HERE and we’re all living for it.  HOWEVER, the feathers on the cape and coattails should have matched, OR there should have been more lime green because there’s so little of that color.
The pants have a pleat in the front, which Justin says means he responsibly irons his clothes, and Jo says only heightens the fact that under the capes this is a marching uniform.
Can he fly?  Jo says these are baby wings that can’t support his weight, and his cape has a hole for the top pair but blocks the bottom pair?  Can’t believe Lucifer handicapped himself for the sake of fashion.
The red makes it regal and the wide flowy design makes it imposing.  Good job, Lucifer!  I might actually be intimidated if I saw you.
Definitely the classiest outfit.  You can tell they put care into it.

The whole thing does amazing with only three colors.  We’ve noticed the trend of black and white + one color, but I mean hey.  It’s working so far.
Damn those pants sit low.  No wonder literally all of you wear belts.
The leather jacket?  The studs and harness?  Bless.  Justin calls it “the perfect blend of stylish and ‘I’ll see you tonight *wink*’”.
Kind of don’t like how the belts connect to the pants, though.  It looks better in the back.

Honestly though?  We’ve all made fun of Mammon for having big hoe energy in his outfits, but like, he knew he had wings and planned his outfit to accommodate for that.  He’s the only one who didn’t cut holes in his outfit.  Maybe Mammon was the smallest hoe after all.
Also if there’s a motif it repeats elsewhere, like the studs and diamonds on his jacket and pants.  Did he and Lucifer have a “tastefully putting diamonds on my outfit” battle?  Because Mammon definitely won.
One of the charms broke off the belt loop and he never bothered to replace it, and honestly thank god there isn’t two of those anymore.
Torn between wishing the boots were tighter to match the rest of the outfit and saying “yoooo they’re open in the back!!!”
Ok so so far we’ve said generally only good things, but there is one major issue with the design: Its gravity.  Everything points down, his tattoos, the diamonds, even his wings.  The center of gravity in the image is his shoes.  Bitch loved his shoes so much he made his whole outfit point to them.
Either way this was universally considered the best and I mourn Justin who doesn’t know how far Mammon’s standards are gonna fall from here.

He looks like an e-boy.
Honestly it looks like he borrowed something from Justin’s wardrobe for Pride but he didn’t know how to put it on.
APPARENTLY the biggest hoe.  Abs that he shouldn’t have coming through a mesh t-shirt.  I thought Mammon’s pants were low, but Levi’s whole-ass ass is out.  Ok Levi, I see you.
The shirt pattern is good but he probably leaves it partially unzipped because it’d look really dumb fully closed.
Justin loves the funky pants pattern and Jo likes the pants but not with the outfit.  It’s because the devs were too coward to give him a thick tail base so his pants had to fill that role by sharing the pattern.
The shoes are good, and not just because they incited Justin’s deep-set hatred for Christian Louboutin and his uncomfortable red-bottom shoes.
Justin is offended that he’s hiding his suspenders; either show them completely or not at all, no in between.  Jo’s not fully convinced it isn’t just one suspender.  What are his suspenders doing?  What are they attached to?  Are they holding anything up?  Apparently not.
Jo pointed out that if you squint the belt on his waist looks like fangs and the orange dots on his sleeves looks like eyes so it’s like theres a snake head on his outfit.  Cute!
The gloves are throwing us off though.  Why is Levi of all other brothers need gloves?  I bet he has sweaty hands.
Ok really, does his sweater unzip all the way into two pieces?  Or does it hang by that tiny thread underneath the tail hole?  There’s even a button, just in case.
Can’t believe this antler-sporting, suspender-wasting nerd went diagonal zipper on us because we beat him at a trivia game.  Should have just zipped his hood.

First of all, he’s straight up wearing Lucifer’s casual shirt.  Does it only button down the back?  Can he take it off?
Then he spilled bleach on his pants.  Like I get what they were going for but with the white on black that is literally just bleach stains.
Incredibly differing opinions on the belt.  He got it in the cowboy department.  Justin adores it.  Jo despises it.
And are those… athletic slip ons?
And now the elephant in the room.  The ribcage made of ribbons.  The ribboncage.  The idea is great!  I love that they gave him a skeletal theme without throwing him into a Hot Topic.
But if you take the ribboncage and feather boa off he’s literally just wearing a dress shirt and some nice jeans.  And that’s the problem with Satan’s demon form.  Not that it looks goofy.  It’s that they took risks but then hid all the risks behind business casual.
Also Megan said that the back of the ribbons look like a rock climbing harness.  Someone (probably Justin) said the front reminds them of the underbelly of a green cockroach.  Ew.
The feather boa would look better if it was over something you wouldn’t literally wear at the office.  (And also didn’t look so much like worm on a string.)

On a good note, loving how the tail fades to highly radioactive green.  Feels dangerous.  Megan pointed out that it’s a pretty wimpy tail, though.  Jo enjoys the self-conscious posture it expresses.
That’s basically the only good thing we have to say, though.

Ok now with that out of the way, HONEY.
I’m sure he says that to others but I hope he says it to himself too when he looks in the mirror.
Starting with the good.  The wings?  Adorable.  The heart-shaped hole to accommodate them?  Adorable.  One of the only good adjustments.
And I love that the tips of his horns look venomous, like a scorpion tail!
We love a good floral design and a good twin tailcoat.
But once again, the shirt just has too much going on.  The flowers.  The buttons.  The brick-pattern stitching.  The brooch.  The long collar.  The fact that if he closed the last button it’d end in a diamond covering his crotch.  Sometimes less is more, Asmo.
That scorpion brooch is the best thing to ever grace my computer screen and it shouldn’t have to share the spotlight with the rest of his shirt.  It should have wrapped around his arm and been paired with some more jewelry.  Then he could have ditched those giant cuffs.
The bleeding heart tattoos are a really good idea!  But they should have been angled better and not like someone else put them on at the roller rink.  And maybe they shouldn’t have been outlined in pink.  Those aren’t tattoos, those are gaping holes in his arm.  Is he ok.
I’ve been avoiding the pants, but.  The pants.

One side is buckled the ENTIRE way down, and then the other side is COMPLETELY plain.  It’s too extreme on both ends.  It should have been only half a leg of buckles.  Not whatever this is.  I still don’t think he can bend that leg.
The shoes are ok but they COULD have been a stiletto so.
Jo is DONE with these demons’ inability to wear socks.
We expected better from you, Asmo.  I hope you have to fasten all those buckles every morning as retribution.

He said “how many belts can I wear on one outfit.”
Justin said it’s like Barry B. Benson and Post Malone had a beautiful baby boy, and Obey Me! is cancelled for creating a sequence of events that could lead to me hearing that with my own two ears.
The jacket?  Stunning.  “It’s steampunk mixed with Jack Sparrow, mixed with Billie Joe Armstrong,” says Justin.  It’s got puffy sleeves!  And there’s objectively too much going on with the jacket, but since it’s a leather jacket I can forgive it.  Justin and Jo can’t.
I’m not sure why they keep giving him weird jacket collars but I prefer belt number 9 to fur.

Good that the black tank isn’t only black, but he has so little color on his outfit that it would have been nice for it and the matching pattern on his boots to have been a color besides gray.
I don’t mind the belts down the leg because they’re not too in your face.  Jo wants the white belt to be thinner.  Justin wants him to just pick one and go with it.
Poor Beel, he can’t do his lil thigh pat pose without his right hand being assaulted by studs and that bear trap-shaped buckle.
Justin feels like the cowboy boots are too wide up top and it’s probably because they’re FAKE cowboy boots.  I don’t know why he didn’t just get cowboy boots instead of putting fake coverings over his dress shoes.
Can’t fault the twin belt, though.  And the wing hole isn’t terrible.
Idk I guess.  They knew what they wanted to do at least.  
That seems to be the pattern with Beel: they know what they want to do, but something weird happens in the middle of it.

A toddler who just learned how to cut holes in paper got a hold of his hoodie.
Is it a hoodie?  A jacket?  A poncho?  The cow print actually isn’t terrible.  At least it had the decency to be unique in its spotting.  And the actual presence of blue is very appreciated.
On the topic of colors, Jo is calling the devs out on their apparent fear of color.  “Put the pink elsewhere, cowards,” they say.
We actually don’t hate the horseshoe, and using it for the belt buckles is actually really clever.  Even if 75% of them are doing literally nothing.  Feel like he didn’t need that many.  Could do without the bottom one, maybe even bottom two.
There’s a teeeeny tiny cowbell on the back?  Megan apparently finds that VERY important.  Why do they go to such great lengths to remind us that Belphie’s a cow?  Beel doesn’t rub his hands together 24/7.  Mammon doesn’t even get bird wings.
Just like Satan spilled bleach, Belphie has tar pants.
It’s nice to see a change in pant style, but.  Am I biased because I hate harem pants?  Maybe.  Are these harem pants too short on him?  Yes.  Maybe they were supposed to be parachute capris?  But it just looks he outgrew them too fast and Lucifer won’t buy him new pants yet.  At least they look comfy.
If he puts his keys in those pockets will his pants fall down?  Probably.  That’s a problem considering his are the only pants that look like they could hold any keys.
The shoes are fine.  I can enjoy a high topped sneaker.  …Is that a security tag?  Did he steal his shoes.  Belphie stole his shoes.
On the tiny tail hole, I appreciate that Belphie went for modesty.  But I hope it’s impossible to wear these outfits outside of demon form because I don’t want him walking around with a tiny hole right above his ass.
Honestly he doesn’t even look like a demon?  He just looks like… a cow.

There’s one more aspect of their demon forms that I didn’t feel comfortable forcing into a smaller space than it deserved: Silhouettes.  Jo puts a lot of weight on silhouettes and their role in character design.  Is it dynamic?  Is it recognizable?  Jo ranked them as such:
1. Lucifer: 9/10.  Care and effort were put into this design and it shows. 2. Mammon: 7/10.  Points deducted for most of it being form fitting but otherwise still manages to get a passing grade. 3 (tied). Beelzebub: 5/10.  His wings have actual mass but his horns being mostly hidden by his head reduce his score. 3 (tied). Belphegor: 5/10.  Evens out since his clothes aren’t as form fitting as the others but they also kind of turn him into a blob. 5. Asmodeus: 4/10, and only because he’s got multiple wings and that his tailcoat breaks up the bottom half. 6. Satan: 3/10, for the fact HIS BOA carries most of the work in altering his silhouette. 7. Leviathan: 2/10.  The tail and horns prevent this from being a total flop.
Our (surprisingly unanimous!) ranking of their outfits (not counting Megan her opinions deviated) were:

In conclusion, any M-rated fic that doesn’t have it take demon Satan 20 minutes to take off his shirt is too unrealistic.

What are some of your favorite outfits in community? I personally have a soft spot for Troy in the lava ep. I’m bitter cause the second onwards Troy and abed match on halloween. We were robbed of catwoman Troy in season 1.
if you’re just reffering to their general fashion, i honestly dress like abed if he were a tiktok lesbian (though i’m neither a lesbian nor a tiktok user) and i love all his cardigans, so i’m a fan of most abed looks, though the one specifically coming to mind is in 03.10.

if you’re talking about specific looks, i love their outfits in s2 paintball (annie’s outfit in s2 paintball. i’m talking about annie. if i wasn’t already deeply bisexual when i watched that ep she would have been the sole factor in that changing)

finally, i couldn’t talk about community costumes without bringing up my king, and an icon of fashion, mr craig pelton himself. the cotillion dress is my personal favourite look, though the “i have to go the bank today” gag is one of my top five jokes on, like, the whole show.

Clara Oswald’s Wardrobe: The Eleventh Doctor Years
Yeah. You read it right. I’m back, bitches.
After a brief sojourn (like...two years) into not covering such fascinating topics as Martha’s elegance, Rose’s scrappy jeans, and River Song’s backwards-forwards style routine, I’m back to discuss Doctor Who and costume design, because we all have things we’re good at and mine is yelling about hemlines! So while we all mourn Bill Potts—please come back to the show, Pearl Mackie, I beg you honest-to-god—let’s throw in a flashback to a long time ago, and play around with CLARA OSWIN OSWALD.

One nasty bit that’s kept me from getting to this post earlier is that Clara’s series 7 arc, thanks to the fragmenting-into-ten-thousand-tiny-pieces bit, is a little hard to view from a “character/costume” perspective. Do I count Oswin as part of her, despite significant differences between "our” Clara and Souffle Girl, or do I view their costume choices separately? What about the Clara from “The Snowmen”? What about the one who ran after Tom Baker in a terrible incident of green-screen-enabled acid reflux?

So after a lot of debate, I’m counting them, albeit shyly, and without extending to them the same connective layer I generally use between a character’s costume choices. They’re a part of Clara, so I can’t ignore them, but I won’t assume every choice they make extends to our Clara. After all, discussing all those Claras would just be impossible, wouldn’t it?

I know. Great segue, right? Join us, pals, for a new edition of The Companion’s Wardrobe.

When we first meet Oswin, I’m falling over myself because I love her so much. Ok, no, not really. But it’s hard to fend off the charm of this first outfit—it’s a mix of Pure Sex, Geeky Cool Kid, and Perky Sixties Air Stewardess that knocks together a couple diverse style types and leaves us unsure what her whole deal is. There’s the cheeky red dress with the asymmetrical neckline, the rose she tucks behind her ear, the sci-fi tool belt and watch, the youthful-chic sneaker-heels. It goes together, but what ties these into a cohesive character?

Uh, yeah, Os, and if you’re gonna sass me the whole post you can do it in a more productive fashion. What these posts do is analyze—not assume what the designers meant, ever, but take what we know from the dress, delete from our brains our own metas and conjectures and far-flung notions, fling whether we think it’s pretty out the window except for that one rose tyler outfit. it deserved to be sassed, and try to embrace this as Character Translated Into Dress™ (while of course letting insignificant details slide because not EVERYTHING ties into your analysis, dumbass). We’re being told something, here, or else it’s just shitty costume design.
Which is always perfectly possible.
But no, Oswin’s dress is aiming for something: perfection. Everything about this dress is right, but it’s also TOO much. Too clean. Too fun. She’s polished and pretty and happy and comfortable—and none of it could possibly be real, with a Dalek just outside the door. While most of the wrecked passengers we’ve seen in past under-siege dramas have looked a little wrecked, with a dusty spacesuit or a tattered hairstyle to prove it, Oswin’s perfect bouncy curls and scratch-free outfit signal us far before the Doctor does that something is off.

Besides the perfection of this outfit, unstained by real life’s messes, there are other hints of what Oswin’s got going for her. The bright red, like a warning signal, should hit us over the head: every other companion is a mish-mash of different hues and patterns, while Oswin reads like a stop sign. The heeled sneakers I love so much are almost kid-like, if not innocent—as is much of Oswin’s made-up life, as she calls her mum and lounges in her chair. She reads as both red-hot “NO” and a perfect, happy, straight-out-of-Pushing-Daisies “yes.”
It’s no wonder we didn’t know what to make of her the first time she showed up. She was popping into every different direction, and somehow making it work.
The next time we see her, the costumes hit us over the head with how this is the same character. Because guess what? The Lady in Red is back.

I honestly don’t have a lot to say about this outfit (though it’s INCREDIBLY beautiful), except that red immediately marks Clara out as bold, and vivid, and a little bit larger than life. Remember how Rose dipped into dark reds slowly, after growing out of the safer pinks she got from Jackie? Clara’s already there, wearing blood red all over, inciting the Doctor to do something.

Until she isn’t. Count me confused.
I’ve got no answers why her bland young charge picks up her red, or why Clara suddenly wears something that departs so drastically from everything she’s coded into her dress previously. Sure, she’s in “disguise,” but isn’t she closer to her true accent now? Why align herself color-wise with the ice monsters? Why ricochet between blue/green and red to further this split personality deal?
I got no answers. Sorry, lads.

Modern Clara’s still got a touch of that “come on!” red, but it’s minimized. She’s wearing one of those light, tiny-pattern, floaty-fabric things that were SO EVERYWHERE in 2013, but that’s all we get from her. She’s a mystery, dressed in whatever’s currently in fashion, flaunting past a gravestone.

But the lady in red is never gone for long.

This is our first time with Proper Clara, and it lays out the elements of Clara’s personal aesthetic that we’ll see for quite some time. Little, adventuresome boots; black tights; a flimsy little dress with a subtle pattern; a big coat, comfortable and practical. The flying bird necklace is lovely. The skirt has the high-low hem of many skirts from this year; we’ll see one like it again. Aside from the visual shout-out to Dalek Oswin in the red dress/short boots combo, all this aligns with what little we know of Clara at this point—she’s competent at whatever she sets her mind to, she’s young, she's both adventuresome and fashionable; she’s very tidy and put-together.
I’d argue her look is still way more put-together than most normal people achieve—think of Rose’s slapdash jeans or Martha’s tank tops—but if I bite the inside of my cheeks and take deep breaths I can accept this as an outfit most TV costume designers would claim is normal, in the same impeccably-dressed “normal” vein of Iris West. It’s pretty, it’s contemporary, but it doesn’t tell me anything much.

Which gets to the root of a problem I have with many of Clara’s outfits in Series 7. Clara is frequently accused of being “boring”—and I firmly believe this has loads to do with the way she dresses, divorced from any opinion on the writing or the plot at this point. Jenna Coleman is an engaging actress, but a lot of the costumes from this era give us a cute, ordinary woman at the expense of furthering her arc in a particular direction.

There are clues, of course. From the quality of her clothes, she’s somewhere in the middle-class range—not quite as effortlessly classy as soon-to-be doctor Martha, but not quite at Rose’s level of street style either. Clara probably reads The Guardian. Those boots aren’t cheap.
Her outfit is very well put together, though it doesn’t push any boundaries of style. Clara is always tied into contemporary fashion, from this point onwards, with her boots and jacket bringing a little frisson of tough to counter the femininity of the dress and bag. The bag’s a sharp, bossy red, and all together it kind of gives us who Clara thinks she is: perfectly turned out, girlish and flirty, tough enough to deal with a crisis, with just a small splash of opinionated red on the side.

“Cold War” mixes it up, though this is still Clara: there’s the slightly flared skirt we’ve seen in the past two looks, and the tough jacket firmly in evidence. I love the buttons up the front, though, and the icy shimmer is a nice departure—a little more glam than we’ve seen before from Clara. Considering Clara thought she was heading to Las Vegas, we can see what she thinks is appropriate for a night out right now: that vaguely-retro 1950s look Taylor Swift started, with a strong streak of cute, but nothing your grandmum would hate. (Amy would have had that skirt at least 6 inches shorter and narrower.) She’s girly and tough.

“Hide” runs along the same lines. (also, bless all these full-costume promo pics.) The gentle cardigan look is back, and aside from the heels it’s all quite demure. It also looks great for the spooky tone of this episode! Incidentally, this is Clara’s third blue outfit in a row, leading me to wonder when we abandoned the vivid red Claras of earlier for these calm, cool, inward-looking young ladies. It’s almost a visual rebuke to the Doctor for seeing her only as the red adventuresses of earlier—those girls were red, sir, but this one is blue, so get your head together and consider the color symbolism.

Aside from me throwing myself out the window because the red keeps coming back but I can’t figure out WHY, this dress is a lot like Clara’s others. Her favorite pair of boots is back, and it’s quite buttoned-up and modest, if a little shorter than before. And the tightrope of bold-but-girly continues to be Clara’s calling card, with the minimal jewelry keeping her just on this side of not-too-dressed-up.
It’s telling that she stands out in this episode, though: she’s in stark opposition to the cold blues worn by the Doctor and his TARDIS, a visible antagonist as these two question and frighten her about her right to belong.
“The Crimson Horror” gives us two great Clara looks, which is great because holy shit look what they did to this skirt.

I can’t quite explain what happened here, because for all the world it looks like they took apart a 1910s-style hobble skirt and  threw in a gradient underskirt for the solid reason of Why The Hell Not, but I love it despite it being bonkers-levels of  historically inaccurate.
Then there’s this.

I LOVE THIS TOO, but character-wise I really have to grit my teeth because I don’t get why Clara, ordinary girl from the twenty-first as she seems to be, would have either the knowledge or the inclination to dress her hair in the elaborate fashions of the period.  But it’s a spot-on perfect dress, with none of the historic bumbling Rose managed on her first try. It lacks the super-puff sleeves of the 1890s, but I can live with it because of those fantastic little V’s down the front. It’s perfect.

We’re back in red for “Nightmare in Silver,” and everything’s very much Normal Clara: the little heeled shoes, the slightly flared skirt, the tights and the tough jacket and the trim little collar. With stronger fabric choices, she looks more in control than ever; she’s developed slightly away from the girlishness of those high-low skirts, though that girly quality is still there in the short skirt. Her arc has not been consistently signaled so far in either silhouette or color choices, but this outfit marks Clara as being more in command than ever before.

In the finale, she’s in same silhouette as last time, but new shoes (Clara seemingly adores footwear that combines heels, boots, and little oxford-y things into one package). Compared to her first modern outfit, she’s much more visually controlled—dark-hued, geometrically patterned, no more flounce or flutter. The color scheme is much more similar to the blue/green of the governess outfit, and red’s completely vanished—she couldn’t be farther from the saucy little barmaid act in “The Snowmen.” And yet by the end of the episode, she’s shattered into her—and into a girl with spikes on her jacket, and a girl dressed like Sarah Jane Smith, and a girl and a girl and a girl and a girl.......

I can’t explain this. I’d love to say that Clara coalesces into a firm costume arc over the season, but I can’t find a clear arc without pushing my designer’s brain to untenable conclusions. Through costume, I watched Martha grow from a confident student to a warrior; I watched Rose grow from a thoughtless girl to a brave woman. River developed in ways that suggested where she was going and where she came from, despite the challenges of a plotline her costume designers couldn’t plan for. Series 7 Clara stretches my brain, and I still come up empty. Where was all that red going? Can a change so slight as “pretty girlish” to “a little less so” count as an arc? Did someone not tell Howard Burden the plot, so he couldn’t plan a clearer costume progression? What happened here????
Thankfully, Clara’s not done growing yet, though. Onto the specials!

Clara begins "The Day of the Doctor” in, again, red. I quietly scream because red can be such a dramatic and weighty color and I hate seeing it just pop up for reasons I can’t make sense of. Clara ignores my protests and hops into her adventure.

This outfit’s perfectly within the same realm as Clara’s previous gigs: heeled boots, check; black tights, check; small-print non-geometric pattern on lightweight fabric, all present sir; cheeky red and tough black jacket, reporting for duty. This outfit could have shown up any point in Series 7 and I would have accepted it. Clara’s working as a schoolteacher now (a very chic one), and the whole outfit reads as saucy and cute and just a little badass.
And then “Time of the Doctor.” Oh, I love the “Time of the Doctor” costumes. This is great. This is when Clara starts making sense.

Clara gets two outfits in this: the cheeky yellow-sweater one, and the red-plaid-skirty one. They’re both very twee and pseudo-vintage and Britishy, which is very much in Clara’s realm so far, but they take what Clara’s already had and push it—heartily, extremely, and in a way it’ll never recover from—into bold new territory.

Clara’s style has shifted in this episode. With the proud geometric plaid, the bright red hue, and the overall sharper fit, Clara has absolutely moved on from the girlishness from “The Rings of Akhaten” into something far more confident and controlled. There are significant details: the little infinity-symbols of her cardigan, the spikes on her necklace and bracelets, and the old-fashioned lace on her blouse make an unusual combo that finally distinguishes her from an H&M commercial. It’s strong and decisive, a little bit bossy, with boldness winning out over cute. Fashionable? Yeah! Modern? Always! But powerful, too, taking up the screen with tight shapes and controlled blocks of color.

The yellow sweater and leather skirt hit the same notes. The feminine flutter of early Series 7 is truly gone; without changing Clara’s style completely, the smack-you-in-the-face mustard sweater and the edge of the leather angle her away from “feminine adventuress” into “adventurer femme.” The priorities shift. It’s the signal of where Clara is going from here—into deeper, darker territory.

So, what do we take from this? Though Clara started out as a bit of a cipher—thanks to red dresses leading us in one direction, and then cute little floral pattern outfits taking us in another—over Series 7 Clara gradually came together as a bolder, more in-command character, and even started to develop a style of her own that verged beyond the norm. Where could that take us in Series 8? How will her costumes change to interact with an entirely new Doctor? Will I ever get to see that bird pendant necklace again? (yes.) Who knows! I’ll have to write a post about it!
Whatever happens, it’s going to be an awfully big adventure.

“I’m a big ol string bean, at 5′10. I’d like to say healthy because i exercise quite frequently but i pretty much stay the same weight i have for years due to my various love for food.” Meg is fit/slim, but she never turns down the opportunity to treat herself.
2. How old is he?
“I’m the big two-o.”
3. Describe his posture. Does he/she carry himself well or does he/she slouch?  
“I’m not much of a sloucher. My mom would always smack my hands at the dinner table if i was slouching even though she let my father do it. So i’d say pretty well, mostly from habit.” That and her mother had Meg take ballet classes when she was little, so bad posture was always a big no-no.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
“I guess fit? Haha, is sleeping in til the afternoon an illness? Because if so, you got me.” No Meg is pretty healthy physically wise.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Graceful, hah that’s a laugh. I don’t know? I walk like a regular human being, is this even a real thing?” Yes it is Meg, lol. Meg is pretty relaxed in most aspects, if anything she walks casual, although sometimes if in a good mood she has a charming strut she puts on.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
“Meh.” Wow, Meg my god. Meg has never been one for appearances; it wasn’t until recently that Daphne got her in things like doing her hair and makeup. Meg doesn’t really care for it, but most of the time shes confident in her own skin.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
“I’m not pale, but i’m not really dark either. I look i got a tan, but got out of the tanning booth halfway through. Like a golden-brown potato chip. I do get oily sometimes, it just mostly looks like i’ve been sweating though.” meg-girl. Meg is slightly tan, but in the winter her complexion lightens immensely
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
“My hair is probably about upper-mid back. I usually don’t do anything with it, but it’s naturally wavy a bit. So most of the time its just down, or up in a pony tail.”
9. What color are his/her eyes?
“Hazel, but the green outshines the most. My mom always use to call them Σμαράγδια της θάλασσα, which translated means Emeralds of the sea.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
“I’d like to think my eyes, and i have a lil freckle above my lip that draws a bit of attention. Whether good or bad i’m not really sure which.”
11. What are his/her chief tension centers?
“I guess my shoulders.” Shoulders/Upper back.
12. What is the character’s wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he/she have six of the same suit?
“I don’t know, i don’t feel like what i wear falls under any certain type of fashion style. I just wear whit i like.” Meg can go from casual to classy as hell. It just depends how shes feeling and what shes dressing up for. Most of her clothes are either dark's or neutrals, but there is some pops of color in there.

“If they didn’t fit, i wouldn’t be wearing them. Sometimes i like clothes that hug my body right, sometimes i like wearing loose things that fall and hang off my sides.”

“Sometimes, but mostly its still casual.”

“Haven’t really thought about that much?” I’d say somewhere in the middle ground. Her voice is feminine but has strength behind it.
2. How does he/she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he/she talk easily, or does he/she hesitate?
“Normal.” Meg never raises her voice unless around Hades or shes in an argument. Other than that, no. She never really is one to hesitate.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
“I guess i used too. I was raised in Greece, but my mom taught me English when i was very young. She said it was always handy to know more than one language. Most of the time people can’t tell i’m from another country until i start speaking my native language.”
4. What language/s does he/she speak, and with how much fluency?
“I can speak Greek fluently since its my native language, English as well. I know a few words and phrases of Albanian and Latin, since a lot of people in Greek used a variety of languages.”

“Sometimes. I speak my native language more in my head than anywhere else. Or when my mother calls.” Sometimes if Meg is flustered of angry, or it just slips from her mouth without her even realizing it.

“Never hesitate. Say whats on your mind.” Oh meg shaddup, you hesitate sometimes binch don’t give me that.

“I want to say eloquent, but honestly that sounds way more re-fined than i feel like i am?”
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he/she book-smart or street-smart?
“Uh, both? I’d like to think i have both.” With Meg its a fair middle ground. Meg is intelligent but sometimes lacks in the motivation to do her work department. And she has plenty of street wit from Hades.
2. Does he/she think on his feet, or does he/she need time to deliberate?
“Feet. Definitely feet. Probably would’ve been as in many situatuions as i have if i put more thought into certain things...” Hahaha, *coughs* Herc *coughes loudEr* HaDES
3. Describe the character’s thought process. Is he/she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
“Instinct, although sometimes more logical than if not.”
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Tbh, i’m not sure because Meg’s bio is still in the drafts and shes not listed on the dorm listings. But im pretty sure shes in University from what i remember.
5. What are his/her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he/she interested in learning more about?
“Ah, you’d laugh. It’s kind of lame.” Meg has a love for mythology and anything to deal with that. She loves reading myths and legends. It brings out the childlike aspects in Meg.

7. Describe the character’s temperament. Is he/she even-tempered or does he/she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
“Introvert. I don’t care too much for people.” That and usually Hades got her busy/and or kept to himself a lot. It takes a certain person to make Meg and extrovert, aka Daphne/Tito.
8. How does he/she respond to new people or situations? Is he/she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
“Depends on the situation or person.” Meg WILL fight for what she wants, so if on her bad side she could raise hell if she wants too. Although shes not the type of person to ask for help either. But when it comes to new people she’s suspicious in the sense she never fully can trust a person until she gets to know them better. But if she feels secure around someone she’s very laid-back.

“Act.”

“Fight. Always fight.”

“Gallows humor. I don’t care for vulgar jokes boys make. It makes me feel like i’m losing more of my brains cells from listening to something like that.”

“Not that i’m aware of no.” Meg doesn’t have depression, but she can feel quite lonely/or sad sometimes.

“I feel as if i’ve had too many of those moments.” When Megs dad died, or betraying Herc, working for Hades. There’s a lot lol.

“Having my freedom taken away. Never standing up for what i want or believe in.” The irony.

To be happy. Move on from the past and start something fresh and new.

“I’m very close to my mom. She had to raise me alone for the majority of my life  and she worked so hard to have the things i could. I could never repay her for all she’s done for me. σ'αγαπώ μαμά (I love you mama).” Meg was a big daddys girl, but her father passed away when she was 7 from a motorcycle accident.

“Nope.”

“Not really.”

“Not at the moment.” She’d say Hades or Peyton and Patrick since she see’s them practically all the time.  But it’s not a good relationship with Hades.

“Daphne. I love her.” I’m not sure how Meg met Daphne, but i’m blessed that she did.

“Tito for sure. He always makes me smile. I don’t know what it is. Berlioz too, even if he doesn’t want to admit it.”
7. Does he/she make friends easily, or does he/she have trouble getting along with people?
“I’m i feel it’s easy to get along with people, but sometimes people are annoying and it frustares me beyond belief.”

“Family. Always Family.” Meg doesn’t have a wide variety of friends, so Family is most important to her. Especially since they’re people who feel like home to her.

“Someone i can hold real conversations with, someone i can laugh and be myself around.” Meg is simple she just wants someone is going to be there for her, even if she doesn’t necessarily need it.

“I don’t want to even phantom the thought of having kids right now. But maybe someday.”

Meg doesn’t want to answer this question because she doesn’t want Hades to over-hear lmao.

“I’d rather boys, but intelligent ones.” Probably 0 or 2.

“I want it to be with someone i care about and vice versa. I’m not the type to sleep around, but i mean to the people who do it you do you boo; just not my thing.”

“I’d rather not talk about this, thanks.” Meg is quite a passionate person and she’s not going to give everything up so easily because she likes a fight. It would depend what mood she’s in, she’d love intimate or go farther into the rougher aspect of sex. Like hair pulling, lip biting, and all that good stuff.

I feel either an aries or leo. But probably mostly aries because they’re lively, passionate, courageous. Their negative traits would include being impatient, stubborn, and impulsive which just all sounds like Meg perfectly tbh.

“I really don’t have any specific view on it. My mother gave me the choice of choosing/doing whatever i wanted to with religion. Maybe i just haven’t figured it out yet.”

“Don’t we all have a code of morals? We all know right between wrong, but sometimes we do it anyway. It depends, although it would take a lot for me to compromise it.” Like being forced to frame drugs on Hercules lol.

“Tolerant. I like to hear the other side of things or someone’s opinion on the matter.”

Mostly with everyone not because of color or what they look like, but shes always felt skeptical towards people because unless you don’t know that person like the back of your hand you don’t know what they’re capable of. Just like Hades. So pretty much Hades ruined her when it comes to people in general.

Meg has been comfortable, but there are times when she was younger that her family was hurting for money.

“I miss my home back in Greece. It was just beautiful, i miss it so much sometimes compared to the form i’m living in at Walt.”

“Probably movies, i love to indulge in fantasy.”
5. What does he/she do for a living? Is he/she good at it? Does he/she enjoy it, or would he/she rather be doing something else?
“Nothing really.” Do you mean work for Hades? Then yes, and she doesn’t hate it but she doesn’t love it either. She’s known Hades for so long now that he feels like a friend in a weird twisted way.

Meg will never admit it, but dancing. More of a classical style. Definitely something like this. (x)

Meg doesn’t have big meals unless she’s going out to eat, so she snacks a lot.

Dean’s ass was numb. There was a shooting pain in his back and he was seriously sure that there was glitter stuck in his eye. That was sadly nothing new. That was just his life. His phone had been buzzing nonstop for the past fifteen minutes but from the position he was lying in, there was no way of reaching it.
Most twenty-seven-year-old men wouldn’t spend an evening lying on the floor of a limo while talking to a bunch of single, probably desperate, women. Dean, however, was used to it. He’d done it for so many years now that it was like second nature to him. It was more natural to him than breathing.
“Dean? Hey, Dean? Is the limo going to be stopping anytime soon? I really need to go to the bathroom.”
Dean lifted his head to see which one of the girls had spoken. Amelia. A tall, composed woman with ‘wife material’ practically stamped across her forehead. Dean could see why Josie selected her for the show.
“Can you hold it? We’re five minutes out.” Dean said from his position on the floor of the limo.
“Dean, this dress cost me $375. I do not want to pee on it.” Amelia said in a near whine. Dean wasn’t surprised that she needed to pee. They had been stuck in the fucking limo for over an hour already.
“If I distract you with who the suitor is will you hold it in?” Dean asked. Amelia sighed but nodded her head. With a flourish Dean held up a headshot of the current suitor for the show. “Castiel Collins, son of Dmitri Collins and heir to the entire family fortune. They’re the fifth richest family in America. If Daddy’s latest business deal goes through they’ll probably become the third richest.” The girls all squealed or made impressed sounds.
“Ok, I’ll say it. He’s a handsome guy.” Another girl said. Rachel. Dean had read her file and knew that she was studying to be a civil rights lawyer. Far too smart for the damn show. “What do you think Dean?” Rachel then asked. “Handsome right?”
“I’m not ending up with a ring on my finger.” Dean said. “I don’t have an opinion.” Ok, he had to admit that Castiel was a handsome fucker.
“We’re still going to ask you. You’re our producer.” Anna Milton said. She was pale and willowing with long red hair. From her file Dean knew she was also a lawyer. It was a surprise to have so many smart women on one season.
“Dean, is it true that one of the girls was sent home last year for screwing a cameraman?” Ruby asked. She was all legs, dark hair and devilish eyes. She was the clear frontrunner to become the show’s ‘Bitch’. She would be a rating goldmine.
“That really happened?” Amelia asked. Ruby nodded.
“Oh yeah, she banged one of the cameramen and then got thrown out. It was all over the internet.” Ruby said, sounding far too amused by the whole thing. Dean sighed and tried to ignore the conversation. “That’s true, right Dean?” Ruby pressed.
“Fine. Yes, it’s true. Don’t fuck any of the crew. Simple as that.” Dean said.
“Winchester where the hell are you? Limo one is duller than dishwater so I need your girls now!” Josie’s voice came screaming into his earpiece.
“We’re five minutes out.” Dean said into his mic. Five minutes and I’ll be back in the madness. Dean thought to himself. As the limo drove over a speed bump champagne was splashed onto his head.
“We’ve got five hours of hard night left Dean, we need these girls now!” Josie yelled back.
“We’re five minutes out Josie. Outside of shoving a firework up the driver’s ass, we’re still gonna be five minutes out.” Dean said with a heavy sigh. “We’re gonna do one last tits and teeth check. There’s not gonna be a stray eyelash or rogue nipple in sight.” Dean promised.
“God, I fucking love you Winchester. Welcome back.” Josie said.  
Yeah, he was definitely back to the madness.
The madness was Eternal Love. America’s number one dating show and a cultural smash. This had been his life, his whole world for the past eight years. He’d started as a shitty little intern at the age of nineteen and risen through the ranks to, finally, become the head producer. It helped that the showrunner and creator of the show, Josie Sands, loved him and basically treated him like a husband/son hybrid. Ok that was fucked up but Josie was the best in the business. She was driven, powerful and just a tiny bit scary. Ok, a lot scary. She had made interns piss themselves before.
“Hey Dean? Is there any members of the crew we can screw?” Ruby asked looking down at him, if she moved her leg even just a bit then Dean would have been able to see right up her dress. He really hoped that wouldn’t happen or that she was actually wearing underwear. “You know, just in case we get lonely or bored and Mr Moneybags doesn’t put out.”
“Honestly?” Dean asked. Ruby nodded sagely. “Don’t bother trying to screw the AD, he’s my brother and his fiancée Jess will make you all look like drag queens. She’s the head makeup artists.” Dean said. “If you get caught screwing a cameraman then you’re out. The showrunner is a woman and will eat you alive. Don’t think about fucking a producer so you can stay in the show, it never works.”
“So basically we can’t screw anyone?” Ruby asked, her eyebrow cocked sky high.
“Basically, yeah.” Dean said.
“Not even you?” She asked.
“I’d like to see you try sweetheart. I prefer dick to whatever you’re offering.” Dean said. All the girls looked down at him with surprised looks. “What? Oh yeah, like a straight guy would spend eight years giving a shit about this business.” He added while several of the girls snickered.
“Winchester, we’re a minute out.” The driver’s voice filled his ears.
“Josie, we’re a minute out.” Dean said.
“Thank fuck for that. The last limo of girls were the dullest bunch. Won’t last until the second episode. Get your skanks here now.” Josie replied.
“You girls ready?” Dean asked.
“I still need to pee.” Amelia whined.
“We’re a minute away, I promise. As soon as you meet Castiel you can sprint and piss.” Dean said.
“Fuck! Winchester stop the fucking limo! Move your toned ass out the damn car and get here now!” Josie screamed into Dean’s ear. Dean jolted from his spot on the floor. All five girls in the limo stared at him. Amelia, Rachel, Ruby, Anna and Daphne all stared at him with questioning looks.
“What’s wrong?” Dean said into his mic.
“That fucking drippy idiot intern lost the suitor!” Josie screamed.
“Frank!” Dean yelled to the driver. “Stop the limo!” The limo screeched to stop and everyone whined. “Everyone stay in the car.”
“Dean I really have to pee.” Amelia said. Dean glared at her. “Don’t look at me like that, I have to pee.”
“There’s bushes outside. If you have to go then go in the bush.” Dean said as hauled his body out the limo.
“Dean, I went to Yale. I am not going to the bathroom in a bush.” Amelia snapped.
“Yeah well my brother went to Stanford and he’s pissed behind most of these bushes.”
“The makeup artist is a lucky girl.” Ruby quipped.
“Right everyone hand over your phones, I won’t have time before you meet Castiel.”
“We don’t have our phones?” Ruby asked.
“Have you seen this fucking show before?” Dean snapped holding out his hands. “You get them back when you are kicked off the show or win.”
“So I’ll get it back when I win.” Ruby said. Dean rolled his eyes and turned to an intern who had sprung up outside the limo.
“Don’t let these girls leave this limo. If you do, Josie will kill you.” Dean said and took everyone’s phones off them before he slammed the limo door shut and took off in the run towards the Eternal Love mansion. He knew the place like the back of his hand. He spent every waking hour there when the show was filming and had done for eight years.
“Thank Jesus fucking Christ!” He heard Josie scream when he can running towards the driveway to the mansion. Lighting, cameras and members of the crew were everywhere. Several of the interns or cameramen stared at Dean. After last year, he really wasn’t too surprised.
“What happened?” Dean asked looking around. He could see several of the girls already standing around, jackets from the crew members thrown over their glitter covered evening dresses. “Someone lost the suitor?” He asked Josie. Her flaming red hair was all over the place and she looked as if she was about to murder someone.
“I am never trusting interns ever again. I was fucking blessed with you.” Josie snapped. “I put that new skinny one, I don’t know her name, on ‘suitor watch’ and she lost him. She lost him Dean. How can you lose a whole person?” She asked. Without even taking a breath Josie turned to face the rest of the crew. “If there is not a latte in my hand in less than a minute I will fire you all.” Her face was almost as red as her hair. “I will fire you all then destroy you. I know this mansion more than I know my vagina. I know where to bury your fucking bodies.”
“Josie, chill out. I can sort it.” Dean said. “Someone get her a damn latte and make sure it has three sweet-n-low in it and no foam!” He yelled to the crew. Three interns were already running off to the coffee cart.
“And a cigarette.” Josie said.
“You’re quitting.” Dean said. Josie’s nostrils flared. “And someone get her a box of Marlboros! Menthol!” Yet more assistants and interns went scurrying. “I’ll find him. I promise.” Dean said back to Josie. She gave him a rare smile, which still looked kind of scary, and let out a sigh.
“I love you Winchester. Fucking love you.” Josie said. Dean switched his radio over to Sam and Jess’ channel as he hurried over to wardrobe. “Have you seen our suitor anywhere?” he asked them.
“Nah, sorry Dean. I haven’t seen him since I did a quick powder on his face.” Jess, his brother’s fiancée and head of the makeup department, said. “Try wardrobe.”
“Scratch that Jess.” Came Dean’s brother Sam’s voice. “I saw him storming off towards the lake. Looked really pissed Dean so you better run.”
“Thanks Sammy.” Dean said quickly as he switched back to Josie’s main channel. Mainly to tell Josie but also so he didn’t have to hear his brother bitch him out for calling him ‘Sammy’. “Suitor’s by the lake. I’m gonna grab him.” Dean told Josie. “Got your coffee?”
“Yes and it is shit. I can’t trust anyone but you Winchester.” Josie replied. “I don’t care how you do it, just get my suitor back.” One day Josie’s head was just going to explode from stress. Dean would probably have to clean it up too. He didn’t complain too much because he had been a producer on the show ever since he was twenty-four. He didn’t know anyone else in the industry who had been given a producer role at such a young age. Without fucking their boss that was.
Taking off in a sprint Dean hurried over to the grand lake situated about five minutes away from the mansion. It didn’t take long to spot Castiel Collins. He was the only one who was here. Sat on a large rock, a trail of cigarette smoke curling above his head. When he heard Dean approaching his head whipped around.
“I am not going back to that madness.” He said quickly. “Who are you?” Castiel asked when finally looked at Dean’s face. His photos really hadn’t done him justice. The guy was a handsome motherfucker with dark hair, tanned skin and incredibly blue eyes. Even if he turned out to be the world’s biggest asshole the viewers would still love him.
Every woman in America is going to have dripping panties from the very first episode. That was how Josie had put it. She was kind of right.
“Hey, I’m Dean Winchester. I’m the head producer for the show. In fact, that makes me your producer.” That was sort of a lie. Normally Josie oversaw the suitors but Dean thought he would try his best to establish some respect from Castiel. “Mind if I sit down?” He asked.
“Are you going to make me go back there?” Castiel asked. Dean finally noticed how deep the guy’s voice was. He’d always been a sucker for deep voices. The female contestants would be ripping each other apart just to hear Castiel speak.
“Dude, you’re a human being. I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to do.” Dean said. “So, can I sit? I promise I won't try to make you go back there.”
“Fine.” Castiel said. Dean slowly walked over and sat down on the rock, right next to Castiel. “Want one?” Castiel asked holding out a crumpled packet of cigarettes. “I rarely ever smoke but this seemed like an appropriate time.”
“Sure.” Dean said. Castiel lit him a cigarette and handed it over. “This show makes anyone smoke like a chimney. My brother, he’s the assistant director, used to smoke like a fucking fiend until he met his fiancée.” Dean said. “So…what’s wrong man?”
“That show, it is crazy. It’s crazy.” Castiel said shaking his head.
“Yeah, it kind of is.” Dean said in agreement. Even after eight years he still found the show crazy.
“And that red-haired woman…”
“Josie?”
“Yes. She’s a piece of work.” Castiel said with a shake of his head. “Honestly, I don’t know why I’m here.”
“You’re Dmitri Collins’ son right?” Dean asked even though he knew everything about Castiel. It was his job to know everything. Castiel nodded his head. “He wants to buy part of the network doesn’t he? My boss, Josie, told me so. That must be why you’re here.” It was also because Castiel was one of the most eligible bachelors in the country but Dean wasn’t sure how Castiel would react to that.
“That sounds correct to me.” Castiel said between drags of his cigarette. “I just…I don’t know what on earth I am doing here. I’ve never watched this moronic show, no offence-”
“None taken man, I only watch this show because I work on it.” Dean said.
“Well I’ve never watched the show and I certainly don’t think I’m going to find love on a reality show.” Castiel said. “The whole idea just seems absurd.” He muttered as he glanced back towards the mansion. “The first car full of women…they just seemed to be here because of the cameras.”
Dean sighed heavily because that was true. They had a lot of contestants who only came onto the show to help their careers or to get exposure. Several of them went far, mainly because they were rating gold, while others didn’t make it past the third week.
“Look, I know that most people think that this show is just a load of bullshit and half the time they’re right. You’ve got a chance to find love, there are some pretty awesome women here. My limo was full of great girls.”
“This sounds like you’re trying to get me to go back to that mansion.” Castiel said warily.
“I’m just giving you my opinion. I mean, my job is on the line here but whatever. If you don’t want to be here then I can just go and get the standby guy.”
“There is a standby suitor?” Castiel asked. Dean nodded.
“Yeah, he’s some kind of doctor. Saved a load of dying kids in Africa.” Dean lied. There was no standby suitor but if it got Castiel back to the mansion then he was going to say anything. “Total ‘dreamboat’.” Dean said. He watched Castiel sit and think for several minutes.
“Dean! Where the fuck are you? Have you got him yet?” Josie screamed into his ear.
“Yeah, give me a minute Josie.”
“We’re losing hard light Dean!” Josie screamed.
“Give me a minute.” Dean snapped back. He knew if anyone else snapped at Josie then they would have been broken in half like a twig. Dean, however, could actually get away with it. “Can you make sure the standby suitor is on set?”
“Standby? Oh you fucking genius.” Josie replied.
“So we can head back now and you can hand things over to the other guy.” Dean said to Castiel. He pulled himself up off the rock, flicked his cigarette away, and turned back to Castiel. “You coming?” He asked. Castiel nodded and soon they were walking back to the mansion. Dean could see interns running around like headless chickens. When they spotted Dean and Castiel they looked even more frantic. Josie had probably dropped the ‘standby suitor’ bomb. Obviously, none of them had a clue what she was on about.
They were near the driveway when Castiel stopped Dean. “If I agree to do this then I want full control. I won’t do anything that I don’t want to do.” Castiel said. His voice was full of determination and Dean could tell that Castiel wasn’t a man to take any of Josie’s shit. She wouldn’t be able to the control him in the same way she had controlled the past suitors. “Can you promise me that?” Castiel asked Dean. That was a lot to ask of him.
“Dude, you’re gonna be told what to do a lot of the time. If you don’t want to do it then simply don’t do it.” Dean said. It would piss Josie off so much but Dean was willing to say anything if it meant Castiel staying on the show.
“Hey Deano! Found the runaway yet?” The voice of the show’s host, Gabriel, interrupted their conversation. Dean turned and saw the host waltzing towards him. Gabriel had hosted the show from the very beginning. He irritated Josie to no end but the viewers adored his quick wit and easy going personality.
“Yeah, he’s right here. We can get this show back on the road.” Dean said nodding over to Castiel. “I’m going to the control room to oversee everything.” He glanced over at Castiel. “If you need me for anything then just yell, ok?”
“Yes, thank you Dean.” Castiel said with a slight twitch of his lips that could have been a smile. Gabriel led him away back to the driveway while Dean hurried over to the control room. As he walked he saw several members of the crew continue to stare at him. He was half tempted to flip them off but he knew better at the end of the day.
Inside the control room. Josie was stood with the remains of her latte. Her steely eyes fixed on the monitors. Interns scurried around while the other producers were sat in their chairs, notepads in front of them and eager looks on their faces.
“Winchester!” Charlie Bradbury, a fellow producer, called out when she saw him. “You’re back.”
“Like I could leave this hellhole.” Dean quipped as he walked over to her and gave her a quick kiss on the forehead.
“I wouldn’t have done this shit without you.” Charlie said.
“I wouldn’t let him even if he tried.” Josie said. “What’s the situation with the suitor?” She asked Dean, it was always business with Josie.
“It’s fine. I’ve got him back but I don’t think he’s going to respond to anyone else trying to produce him. It’s going to have to be me.” Dean said. Everyone stared at him. Josie had always been in charge of the suitors. True, Dean was the head producer but the role of producing the suitor had always fallen onto the showrunner.
“Are you sure you can handle that?” Josie asked, her eyebrow cocked. “Because if you fuck it up then the network will want you gone. I won’t have any say in the matter.” She meant that as well. Their network had final say over the show and if Dean screwed up in any way then he would end up without a job. That was a lot of pressure to have on his shoulders.
“I’m not going to fuck it up Josie, I promise.” Dean said. Josie gave him a long look, her mind was probably going over the previous year but shrugged her shoulders. She threw up her hands then threw herself back into her chairs.
While Dean got comfortable next to Charlie his eyes wandered to the huge board behind them. Every headshot of the girls appearing on the show was stuck onto the board, along with who was producing them and comments Josie had included. Under Dean’s name were photos of Amelia, Ruby, Anna, Rachel and Daphne along with Josie’s notes. Under Ruby’s photo, the word ‘VILLAIN’ was plain to see.
“Ok, let’s get this show back on the road. Cue limo!” Josie yelled into her mic. The limo housing Dean’s girls drove up the driveway. It came to a stop not far away from Castiel, who still looked incredibly nervous. “This is opening night! Let’s give them fantasy, love and…I don’t know a glitter unicorn and magical fucking vaginas.”
“Very poetic.” Charlie muttered.
“It doesn’t matter, this is all a bunch of crap anyway.” Josie said rolling her eyes. “Love and all that bullshit that America chomps down with a spoon.”
“Someone didn’t get that glitter unicorn she wanted when she was little.” Balthazar, a fellow producer muttered.
“Suck my dick Balthazar.” Josie snapped. “Come on, let’s get these girls in here so America can believe in love again!” She yelled.
“First girl, go.” Dean said into his own mic. The limo door opened and Anna gracefully stepped out. Several members of the crew let out whistled. She was gorgeous, Dean wasn’t about to lie and say she wasn’t. She rocked the willowy red head look for all it was worth and the deep green of her floor length ball gown looked great on camera.
“Damn, we know how to pick them.” Josie said as Anna glided towards Castiel, her smile lighting up the whole screen. “Stats!”
“Anna Milton. She’s twenty-six from Ohio and is training to be a human rights lawyer.” Dean said, quoting her file that he had memorised. “She’s an only child and paints in her spare time. She’s actually a really good artist, I saw a few of her drawings earlier on.”
“Plus she was ‘wife’ material stamped on her forehead.” Josie said. Charlie rolled her eyes because as soon as a girl was classed as wife material she was guaranteed to stay several weeks. On the screen Anna had pulled Castiel into a hug, her smile beaming.
“Hi, I’m Anna. It’s lovely to meet you.” Anna said, her voice strong but warm.
“It’s lovely to meet you too Anna.” Castiel said, smiling at her politely. Dean could still see the nerves in Castiel’s eyes but his smiled looked genuine and Dean knew the audience would eat this up.
“Someone shove a firecracker up his ass.” Josie muttered.
“I’m really excited to meet you Castiel.” Anna said on the screen, her smile bright.
“Thank you…you look stunning.” Castiel said as he gave Anna a kiss on the cheek.  
“She should do, that dress looks like it cost a fucking fortune.” Charlie said.
“Her mother made it actually.” Dean said from his seat. “They’re really close and her mom made her a lot of her clothes.”
“How do you know all this shit?” Balthazar asked.
“I was stuck in a car with them for over an hour. I know shit loads about my girls.”
“That reminds me, if you’re producing Castiel then you have to go over his file.” Josie said as she watched several screens at once. Dean nodded as Anna walked into the mansion and the next contestant stepped out the limo. Ruby grinned at Castiel she strode over to him.
“And here’s my villain.” Josie said as she looked over Ruby in her skin tight black dress. “Winchester, tell me about her.”
“Ruby Cortese, she’s twenty four and from Nebraska but now lives in L.A. She’s currently a waitress.” Dean said. “She’s basically a bitch on heat.” He added. “She’s already said that she’d ‘shank a bitch’ to get to the final two.”
“That would be damn good television.” Charlie said.
“Well hello gorgeous.” Ruby said as she looked over Castiel and instantly went in for a kiss. Castiel looked utterly taken aback.
“Nice. Who told her to do that?” Josie asked.
“Me, I mentioned to her that Castiel likes the whole public display of affection.”
“Does he?” An intern asked.
“Who fucking cares? This makes for good TV. The audience will hate her. It’s fantastic. Well done Winchester.” Josie said with a grin like a Cheshire cat.
“He looks like a rabbit caught in headlights.” Charlie said.
“If her dress was any shorter then he’d be caught in her vagina.” Balthazar quipped from his seat. Josie chuckled with laughter but didn’t say anything else. Dean could tell that she was already planning several scenarios with Ruby being a bitch.
Ruby sauntered off, giving Castiel a wink as she went, while Amelia glided out the car. Her dress looked good on camera and Dean could see the words ‘Wife Material’ practically stamped on her forehead.
“Stats!”
“Amelia Everett. She’s twenty-nine and from Chicago. She has a dead husband and a two-year-old daughter.” Dean said. He’d actually had a long conversation with Amelia about her daughter. Her name was Claire and she was Amelia’s whole world.
“Excellent, we can milk that for all it’s worth.” Josie said. From anyone else that would have been a sickening comment but this was Josie. Dean was used to it by now.
The rest of Dean’s girls made their introductions to Castiel. They were soon followed by Charlie and Balthazar’s girls.  There were nonstop comments all the while.
“Those are some bad fake boobs.”
“Why did you give me this girl Josie? She’ll be lucky to last the night.”
All the while Dean could see that Castiel was nervous and really didn’t want to be there. Once all the girls had made their introductions Gabriel swooped in to announce that the cocktail party would start straight away.
“And cut!” Josie yelled. “Right, everyone get your asses down there and produce the shit out of your girls. I want drinks and hands at all times and killer fucking TV or I’ll rip your balls off. Protect the wives, pickle all the other girls. You get cash bonuses for nudity, cat fights and a promotion if we need to call 911.” She caught Dean’s eye and motioned him to follow her into her office. Dean pulled himself out his chair and went off after Josie. “You ok?” Josie asked once they were in her office.
“Uh…yeah…why?” Dean asked.
“Because you’re back in this shit storm even after last year.” Josie pointed out. “Look, I know I’m not all fuzzy and full of happy but you’re my little warrior. I need my knight by my side during this bullshit. I need to know you’re ok.”
“Last year…last year was bullshit but I’m ok. I promise.” Dean said as he desperately tried not to think about the year before.
“I’m pissed that Castiel wants you to produce him but I’m going to let it slide. You’re my second in command so I suppose you can handle it.”
“Thanks Josie.”
“Now go and produce the skanks and shove a firecracker up Collins’ ass. He’s ‘dreamy’ but boring.” Josie said dismissing Dean with a wave.
“You have such a way with words.” Dean muttered as he walked out the office. He quickly made his way to the huge patio area where the introduction cocktail party was happening. Already every single one of the ladies had a large drink in their hands. Dean spotted Anna and Rachel talking to one another while Amelia and Daphne were talking to a few of Charlie’s girls. Ruby was stood talking to a few of Balthazar’s girls with a smirk on her face.
“You know, she made me adjust her make up three times.” Jess, Sam’s fiancée, said as she walked up to Dean. The makeup artists were always on hand for emergency lip gloss application. “And she keeps making eyes at Sam.”
“Hey, I told all of them that the AD was off limits.” Dean said. Jess gave him a thankful look before her face turned sad. “Before you ask, I’m fine. Seriously Jess, I am fine.” Dean said quickly before Jess could say anything. True, Sam and Jess had been amazing after the shit storm of last year but Dean was done talking about it. “Come on, I’ve got a job to do.” He added as he looked over the girls.
“Suitor coming on set!” An intern said through Dean’s earpiece. Seconds later Gabriel came walking out onto the patio. All the girls cheered and clapped. Gabriel soaked it all in with a huge grin. He was made for TV. Dean had always thought that they had hit the jackpot when casting Gabriel as the host.
“Ladies, Castiel is on his way and he’s very excited to get to know all of you a bit better.” Gabriel said. “So enjoy yourselves and later on we will be having our first rose ceremony.” All the girls clapped at that but looked nervous. The rose ceremony was a big thing. The suitor would give roses to the women he wanted to keep on the show each week. Dean had seen many women cry over the years when they hadn’t been given a rose.
While Gabriel was hyping up the contestants Dean went into the house to find Castiel. Castiel was stood waiting for his cue. Though, by the look on his face it was as if he were walking to his death. Dean gave him a quick smile as he hurried over to him.
“You ok dude?” Dean asked him.
“This is a circus. When this is all over, remind me that I greatly dislike my father.” Castiel said with a shake of his head.
“Hey I get that. I got daddy issues coming out the wazoo.” Dean said. “But you ok? Gabe is going to announce you in a minute then you have to go out there a schmooze.”
“Fantastic.” Castiel muttered sarcastically.
“Look, I know this really isn’t your thing but America eats this shit up. They love this goddamn show. Just smile, flirt with the girls and make a good show then the world is your oyster.” Dean said. This felt weird, it was the first time that a suitor hadn’t been interested in the show.
“You’re selling a lie though, you understand that right? Do any of the people on this show actually find love?” Yeah, the cameraman and that bitch from last year Dean thought before he pushed that thought to the back of his mind.
“Last year’s couple are still together. They’re planning a Christmas wedding. A couple from a few years ago are now expecting a kid. Sure, some of them break up after but sometimes they actually find love and all that bullshit.”
“Do you actually believe that?” Castiel asked him.
“Fuck no.” Dean said with a snort. “I do this job because I’m fucking good at it. Now come on, I’ll be out there coaching you if you need it.” He added.
“Let me introduce to you this year’s Eternal Love suitor, Castiel Collins!” They heard Gabriel said from outside.
“Showtime.” Dean said practically pushing Castiel out the door. He quickly hurried out a side door to watch the drama unfold. All the girls cheered when Castiel came and greeted them. Charlie, Balthazar and other producers flitted around off camera.
Dean was walking over towards his girls when he spotted a familiar jawline. A very familiar jawline. The owner of that jawline was holding a steady cam and focusing on a few of the girls. What the fuck? What the actual fuck?
“Jack?” Dean asked, hoping and praying that it wasn’t him. The guy turned towards him and Dean felt his heart drop towards his stomach. It was him. It was fucking him. What the hell was he doing here? Josie had fired him the year before. Jack carefully put down his steady cam.
“Hey Dean.” Jack said. Fuck, he still sounded exactly the same.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Dean asked him. They hadn’t spoken since Jack had been fired and Dean really wasn’t keen on talking to him now. Still, he wanted to know why the fuck Jack was here.
“My job?” Jack guessed motioning to the steady cam.
“Josie fired your ass.”
“Yeah well Crowley brought me back. Apparently, I’m the best cameraman you guys have.” Jack said looking embarrassed. Fucking Crowley. Fergus Crowley was the creator of the show, Josie’s boss and the biggest dick on the face of the planet. “So…how have you been?”
“Fantastic.” Dean said sarcastically. Jack’s brows creased together at Dean’s tone and he couldn’t help but let out a snort. “Did you think I’d be happy to see you?” He asked.
“It’s been a year Dean, more than enough time to get over something.”
“Over something? That’s what you want to call it? Bullshit.” Dean said. “Why did you even come back here? Everyone knows what you did and they fucking hate you for it.”
“I’m here to do my job Dean. Josie might have fired me but I’m back, I am here to do my job.” Jack said trying to square up against Dean. It didn’t work seeing as Jack was a good few inches shorter than Dean.
“Yeah and I’m here to do my job so fuck off.” Dean snapped.
“This is boring Dean. I want good interviews with the girls now.” Josie said in Dean’s earpiece.  
“Got it.” Dean said turning away from Jack and heading off to find his girls. “Now you can tell me why the fuck Jack is here.”
“Jack? As in Jack? Jack is here? What the fuck? I fired his bastard ass last year after he turned out to be the world’s biggest jackass.”
“Yeah well, apparently Crowley brought him back.” Dean snapped.
“That bastard.” Josie snarled. “Right I’ll sort it, you won’t have to see him again if you don’t want to.” She said. “Now get me some good TV.” Josie might have been a calculating bitch but she looked after Dean. If that meant destroying the bastard ex-fiancé who cheated on Dean with a contestant then that’s what she had to do.

MESSAGE
Many Christians don't realise the dangers inherent in ignoring the poor around them.
From today's Bible reading, we see that the Lord cares for the less privileged so much that He literally feels their pain.
This means that every time you disregard a person in need you are ignoring God Himself.
Matthew 25:45-46 says:
“Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
From these verses we understand that neglecting the needy is a passageway to hell fire.
When people come to you in hunger, do you give them food or turn deaf ears to their pleas? When someone is sick, do you visit to show love and pray with him or her or do you just go about your own business? When you see someone who needs new clothes, do you scorn or abuse the person for looking hagard instead of giving out some of the clothes in your wardrobe that you haven't worn in a long while?
If you are ignoring people's needs around you, be careful because you just might be disregarding God Himself, and the result is eternity in hell.
Believe me honestly, if you make it a point of duty to always give to the poor, you will be blessed bountifully for it.
It is popularly said that givers never lack.
I believe this to be very true because Proverbs 19:17 says:
“He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”
No one who neglects the poor has a Place in Heaven.
In Matthew 19:16-25, a rich young man went to see Jesus, and he told Him that he had kept all Jewish Laws from his Youth, but he still felt like he was lacking something. Jesus told him that if he wanted to be perfect, he should sell all that he had and give the proceeds to the poor.
This was too hard for the rich man to do, so he went away in sorrow.
Then Jesus turned to His Disciples and told them it is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of Heaven.
In other words, if you are rich and you find anything too big or too valuable to let go of for the sake of the poor, then there is no Place for you in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Many people judge this rich young man, but they would do exactly the same thing he did if they were in his shoes.
If I may ask, do you care enough for the needy that you can sell all that you have to meet their needs?
Difficult as this may sound, it is reflective of the kind of heart that has a Place in Heaven.

Begin to set aside a portion of your regular income to help the Needy from today.

Last Words: Eureka O'Hara Reflects On Her Time On ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’
Throughout the ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Huffington Post Queer Voices will interview each departing queen on the Saturday following the air date of their elimination episode. Friday night’s episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” brought yet another unexpected twist to the ninth season ― and a first for the franchise that fans certainly did not see coming. 
Instead of one of the episode’s bottom two queens being sent packing by Ru, it was season stand-out Eureka O’Hara that got the boot ― but not because of the her performance. After injuring herself during the cheerleading competition, doctors told Eureka that she needed immediate surgery for her torn ACL. As a result, Ru decided to release her from the competition but offered an invite to come back and compete on the tenth season of “Drag Race” as a parting gift.
This marks the first time a queen has been sent home while simultaneously receiving a guaranteed chance to compete again at a later date ― arguably an incredibly desirable situation for a queen to find herself in and one which could help her continue to build her brand and relevancy as an entertainer.
In this interview with The Huffington Post, O’Hara reflects on her time on season nine, who she hopes will take the crown and what she’s doing to prepare for season ten.
The Huffington Post: This was quite a surprise for fans, as well as you I’m guessing. How did you feel at that exact moment when you found out you were being eliminated? What was going through your head?
Eureka O’Hara: You know, I think I was just shocked but I also kind of understood. The doctor advised us that I had to have immediate surgery. I had torn my ACL in my left knee completely. You know, the ACL and the MCL keep your knee from sliding back and forth and left to right so I could actually have further injured myself if I didn’t get assistance. When a doctor orders you to do something you don’t really have an option ― it’s about self-respect. It was extremely terrifying, it was intimidating, it was depressing. Only because I felt like my body failed me for a moment and it took me a minute to get past that ― but God gave me a path and I’ve got to walk down it. And it’s going to make me an ultimately stronger person and maybe make this experience even better because of it.
If you look at it from another perspective, it’s also a major opportunity since you’re going to be back next season. What do you want to work on and accomplish between now and when you film again this summer?
I will admit that I have a leg up on the competition because I’ve already experienced it. And I think that I would be disrespectful to that opportunity and to my viewers if I did not learn something from this season ― and I’ve learned so much. I got to see myself in HD so I got to aesthetically see things to change. I was able to see how I was perceived in certain situations, maybe ways to handle different situations. Obviously aesthetically I have an opportunity to work on that wardrobe and have some of the most sickening clothes hopefully on the runway – to really wow and shock the crowd. I want to make a statement ― I want to show my fight and I’ll get that opportunity.
Amazing. I’m looking forward to it. I’d like to revisit that powerful conversation from this week’s episode surrounding eating disorders. There were three other girls who got the space to talk about their own struggles, but you didn’t necessarily get the same opportunity. Was there any more that you wanted to say about that moment?
Yeah, I think honestly there are two sides to that situation. I respect Sasha and her support for my sister, Valentina. I think that the tensions were high and I was trying to soften the drama a little with something a little funny. And sometimes people don’t want to hear what’s amusing and maybe I find it funny and they don’t. But eating disorders are two different directions. There’s eating disorders where you do eat and eating disorders where you don’t and there’s eating disorders where you get yourself sick – there’s a variety of eating disorders.
I have suffered from an eating disorder myself almost my whole life ― a binge eating disorder ― until recently. And it’s something I’ve suffered with, many people have, and I think it’s just sad that sometimes that isn’t taken into consideration too and I hate that she perceived me as being negative and malicious when I was really just trying to be funny. But that’s the thing with humor – you never know if it’s going to be offensive. It’s always a risk.
What was the biggest thing that you learned during your time on season nine?
I think just being authentically me ― it works very well for me. I told myself the first day, “let’s just go in here and be you and see how it works out.” I’ve been perceived many different directions but ultimately I’m happy with the fact that everything I am on the show is exactly who I am. It’s what you’re going to be paying for when I come and work at your venue, it’s what you’ll be getting if you come watch a show. And I’m very blessed that people are able to get to know who I am without meeting me.
Do you see any important political implications with “Drag Race” being on such a mainstream network at this specific moment in time?
I think that right now the atmosphere and tension is so high on so many different crises and political situations. I do feel like that if we continue to build bigger, there’s always going to be someone that doesn’t like seeing our community grow and be successful. So no matter how long we’re living on this planet we will always have people that fight against us – everyone always has a negative opinion against something that people live or strive for. It’s just the way the world works. It’s the balance of good and evil – I hope that it doesn’t affect us and luckily we have the branding and the power at this point that I think it won’t.
It’s going to be challenging – it’s already challenging because it’s different and we’re trying to merge over to something so mainstream and so different. So I think that the LGBT community and this show went through many transitions and this is one of the biggest transitions but it’s come at a time where we get to distract the public and entertain the masses so it’s the perfect time. 
Is there a particular queen that you’ve worked with or come up with that you would like to see on a future season of “Drag Race”?
Yeah, I think there’s a couple girls but one specifically that’s really close to my heart is my daughter Anna Tomical. She actually loves the show more than I ever did and has auditioned every year just like me, and for whatever reason I got on the show. I know that she knows the ins and outs of “Drag Race” and would just slay.
Of the girls left in the competition, who would you like to see win the crown?
I think I have a three-way probably… maybe four. My four favorites right now that are left would be Farrah Moan, Nina Bonina Brown, Sasha Velour and Peppermint. I think all four of them have a certain kind of talent and they’re a very diverse four and any direction would be a good representation because of who they are specifically.
What do you want people to understand about who Eureka O’Hara is going forward?
I feel like I know what people are going to know about Eureka. One, she’s big and loud and two, she’s a fighter and she doesn’t give up and she’s always authentically her big, loud, crazy, too much, animated-smile ass. And just to love yourself, hopefully – that’s the message I want to portray ― and live body positive.

So no matter how long we’re living on this planet we will always have people that fight against us – everyone always has a negative opinion against something that people live or strive for. It’s just the way the world works. It’s the balance of good and evil – I hope that it doesn’t affect us and luckily we have the branding and the power at this point that I think it won’t.
It’s going to be challenging – it’s already challenging because it’s different and we’re trying to merge over to something so mainstream and so different. So I think that the LGBT community and this show went through many transitions and this is one of the biggest transitions but it’s come at a time where we get to distract the public and entertain the masses so it’s the perfect time. 
Is there a particular queen that you’ve worked with or come up with that you would like to see on a future season of “Drag Race”?
Yeah, I think there’s a couple girls but one specifically that’s really close to my heart is my daughter Anna Tomical. She actually loves the show more than I ever did and has auditioned every year just like me, and for whatever reason I got on the show. I know that she knows the ins and outs of “Drag Race” and would just slay.
Of the girls left in the competition, who would you like to see win the crown?
I think I have a three-way probably… maybe four. My four favorites right now that are left would be Farrah Moan, Nina Bonina Brown, Sasha Velour and Peppermint. I think all four of them have a certain kind of talent and they’re a very diverse four and any direction would be a good representation because of who they are specifically.

I feel like I know what people are going to know about Eureka. Last Words: Eureka O'Hara Reflects On Her Time On ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’
Throughout the ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Huffington Post Queer Voices will interview each departing queen on the Saturday following the air date of their elimination episode. Friday night’s episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” brought yet another unexpected twist to the ninth season ― and a first for the franchise that fans certainly did not see coming. 
Instead of one of the episode’s bottom two queens being sent packing by Ru, it was season stand-out Eureka O’Hara that got the boot ― but not because of the her performance. After injuring herself during the cheerleading competition, doctors told Eureka that she needed immediate surgery for her torn ACL. As a result, Ru decided to release her from the competition but offered an invite to come back and compete on the tenth season of “Drag Race” as a parting gift.
This marks the first time a queen has been sent home while simultaneously receiving a guaranteed chance to compete again at a later date ― arguably an incredibly desirable situation for a queen to find herself in and one which could help her continue to build her brand and relevancy as an entertainer.
In this interview with The Huffington Post, O’Hara reflects on her time on season nine, who she hopes will take the crown and what she’s doing to prepare for season ten.
The Huffington Post: This was quite a surprise for fans, as well as you I’m guessing. How did you feel at that exact moment when you found out you were being eliminated? What was going through your head?
Eureka O’Hara: You know, I think I was just shocked but I also kind of understood. The doctor advised us that I had to have immediate surgery. I had torn my ACL in my left knee completely. You know, the ACL and the MCL keep your knee from sliding back and forth and left to right so I could actually have further injured myself if I didn’t get assistance. When a doctor orders you to do something you don’t really have an option ― it’s about self-respect. It was extremely terrifying, it was intimidating, it was depressing. Only because I felt like my body failed me for a moment and it took me a minute to get past that ― but God gave me a path and I’ve got to walk down it. And it’s going to make me an ultimately stronger person and maybe make this experience even better because of it.

So I think that the LGBT community and this show went through many transitions and this is one of the biggest transitions but it’s come at a time where we get to distract the public and entertain the masses so it’s the perfect time.

Eureka O’Hara: You know, I think I was just shocked but I also kind of understood. The doctor advised us that I had to have immediate surgery. I had torn my ACL in my left knee completely. You know, the ACL and the MCL keep your knee from sliding back and forth and left to right so I could actually have further injured myself if I didn’t get assistance. When a doctor orders you to do something you don’t really have an option ― it’s about self-respect. It was extremely terrifying, it was intimidating, it was depressing. Only because I felt like my body failed me for a moment and it took me a minute to get past that ― but God gave me a path and I’ve got to walk down it. And it’s going to make me an ultimately stronger person and maybe make this experience even better because of it.
If you look at it from another perspective, it’s also a major opportunity since you’re going to be back next season. What do you want to work on and accomplish between now and when you film again this summer?
I will admit that I have a leg up on the competition because I’ve already experienced it. And I think that I would be disrespectful to that opportunity and to my viewers if I did not learn something from this season ― and I’ve learned so much. I got to see myself in HD so I got to aesthetically see things to change. I was able to see how I was perceived in certain situations, maybe ways to handle different situations. Obviously aesthetically I have an opportunity to work on that wardrobe and have some of the most sickening clothes hopefully on the runway – to really wow and shock the crowd. I want to make a statement ― I want to show my fight and I’ll get that opportunity.
Amazing. I’m looking forward to it. I’d like to revisit that powerful conversation from this week’s episode surrounding eating disorders. There were three other girls who got the space to talk about their own struggles, but you didn’t necessarily get the same opportunity. Was there any more that you wanted to say about that moment?
Yeah, I think honestly there are two sides to that situation. I respect Sasha and her support for my sister, Valentina. I think that the tensions were high and I was trying to soften the drama a little with something a little funny. And sometimes people don’t want to hear what’s amusing and maybe I find it funny and they don’t. But eating disorders are two different directions. There’s eating disorders where you do eat and eating disorders where you don’t and there’s eating disorders where you get yourself sick – there’s a variety of eating disorders.
I have suffered from an eating disorder myself almost my whole life ― a binge eating disorder ― until recently. And it’s something I’ve suffered with, many people have, and I think it’s just sad that sometimes that isn’t taken into consideration too and I hate that she perceived me as being negative and malicious when I was really just trying to be funny. But that’s the thing with humor – you never know if it’s going to be offensive. It’s always a risk.
What was the biggest thing that you learned during your time on season nine?
I think just being authentically me ― it works very well for me. I told myself the first day, “let’s just go in here and be you and see how it works out.” I’ve been perceived many different directions but ultimately I’m happy with the fact that everything I am on the show is exactly who I am. It’s what you’re going to be paying for when I come and work at your venue, it’s what you’ll be getting if you come watch a show. And I’m very blessed that people are able to get to know who I am without meeting me.
Do you see any important political implications with “Drag Race” being on such a mainstream network at this specific moment in time?
I think that right now the atmosphere and tension is so high on so many different crises and political situations. I do feel like that if we continue to build bigger, there’s always going to be someone that doesn’t like seeing our community grow and be successful. So no matter how long we’re living on this planet we will always have people that fight against us – everyone always has a negative opinion against something that people live or strive for. It’s just the way the world works. It’s the balance of good and evil – I hope that it doesn’t affect us and luckily we have the branding and the power at this point that I think it won’t.
It’s going to be challenging – it’s already challenging because it’s different and we’re trying to merge over to something so mainstream and so different. So I think that the LGBT community and this show went through many transitions and this is one of the biggest transitions but it’s come at a time where we get to distract the public and entertain the masses so it’s the perfect time. 
Is there a particular queen that you’ve worked with or come up with that you would like to see on a future season of “Drag Race”?
Yeah, I think there’s a couple girls but one specifically that’s really close to my heart is my daughter Anna Tomical. She actually loves the show more than I ever did and has auditioned every year just like me, and for whatever reason I got on the show. I know that she knows the ins and outs of “Drag Race” and would just slay.
Of the girls left in the competition, who would you like to see win the crown?
I think I have a three-way probably… maybe four. My four favorites right now that are left would be Farrah Moan, Nina Bonina Brown, Sasha Velour and Peppermint. I think all four of them have a certain kind of talent and they’re a very diverse four and any direction would be a good representation because of who they are specifically.
What do you want people to understand about who Eureka O’Hara is going forward?
I feel like I know what people are going to know about Eureka. One, she’s big and loud and two, she’s a fighter and she doesn’t give up and she’s always authentically her big, loud, crazy, too much, animated-smile ass. And just to love yourself, hopefully – that’s the message I want to portray ― and live body positive.

Last Words: Eureka O'Hara Reflects On Her Time On ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’
Throughout the ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Huffington Post Queer Voices will interview each departing queen on the Saturday following the air date of their elimination episode. Friday night’s episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” brought yet another unexpected twist to the ninth season ― and a first for the franchise that fans certainly did not see coming. 
Instead of one of the episode’s bottom two queens being sent packing by Ru, it was season stand-out Eureka O’Hara that got the boot ― but not because of the her performance. After injuring herself during the cheerleading competition, doctors told Eureka that she needed immediate surgery for her torn ACL. As a result, Ru decided to release her from the competition but offered an invite to come back and compete on the tenth season of “Drag Race” as a parting gift.
This marks the first time a queen has been sent home while simultaneously receiving a guaranteed chance to compete again at a later date ― arguably an incredibly desirable situation for a queen to find herself in and one which could help her continue to build her brand and relevancy as an entertainer.
In this interview with The Huffington Post, O’Hara reflects on her time on season nine, who she hopes will take the crown and what she’s doing to prepare for season ten.
