Welp. Okay I watched the last episode of ofmd.

To sum up my thoughts on this season I will say that whilst I enjoyed it and felt the love and passion and respect for its queer fanbase throughout, it didnt hit me the same way the first season did. It felt like maybe a little bit of that season 1 magic was missing and for that I very much blame Max's cutting off 2 episodes and slashing the budget. They had a lot of story they wanted to tell that would have worked so much better in 10 episodes.

I consider the last 3 episodes of season 1 some of the best TV I have seen in my life. From the use of The Chain in ep 8, through the dramatic highs and lows of eps 9 and 10 it was edge-of-your-seat drama and I was in awe at the creators that put it together. But one of the reasons why those 3 eps were so good is because the drama and the pivotal moments were given time to breath.

If those 3 eps were given the same lack of time and budget as season 2, no doubt they all would have been crammed into 1 episode and it would not have had the same impact.

If anything that last episode should have played out across two, with Izzy's death being the half way point and cliffhanger ending leading to a final battle and somewhat happy resolution.

I'm not mad at Izzy's death. If anyone was gonna die, it was gonna be him. His status as Blackbeards enabler and sometimes mentor is over. For Ed to truly be free, I think Izzy always had to go. From a storytelling perspective it makes perfect sense, even though I am sure a lot of fans are absolutely heartbroken about it.

Another casualty of the reduced screentime meant certain original cast members weren't given anywhere near the amount of screentime they should have had. I was expecting a lot more focus on Jim as they were basically the third lead of s1 due to them getting the same backstory as Ed and Stede. All of the crew appear to have had drastically reduced parts which does feel like a big loss to me.

Its funny actually, OFMD S2 suffered from the opposite problem to GOS2. OFMD had too much story to tell in a limited timeframe, GOS2 had very little story to tell outside of the flashbacks and probably too much time given to it. Both shows season 2s suffered from tremendously bad pacing issues.

Also, the one thing the final episode made so obvious to me, is the uncertainty of getting a s3 renewal. It is so clear in the way they tried to wrap things up in a happy bow as best they could, so that if they do get cancelled it leaves fans at least somewhat satisfied. I hate this though. I hate that studios are so fickle and ruthless that creators have to gamble with good quality writing and avoid cliffhangers because of asshole executives who dont actually care about the stories.

Because of the fast pacing, and the fear of cancellation, it felt more like a rush happy ending instead of a part way point in a bigger story, with important character development still to come. Perhaps I need more time to absorb the story in a full rewatch, but im not exactly itching for more at this point, whilst also not really being satisfied with what I got either. I wish we had left Ed and Stede in at least some minor peril, like have them captured and threatened with hanging but at least in a good place romantically, so that we can start speculating about what kind of escape plan they will come up with in season 3. Leaving them in a dilapidated old inn somewhere just felt wrong to me. Instead of ending the season with the stakes sky high (like season 1) it feels like they left season 2 with zero stakes at all, instead of at least a happy medium. At this point we should be turning to fanfiction and wondering what happens next, but instead I'm left thinking "okay then. That was good. What can I watch next?" I don't need to bury myself in fanfic and fanart to feed the hyperfixation this time around, and that is where I feel the most loss.

I'm sure others will have hugely different reactions to me though. Perhaps my expectations were too high? Perhaps my GO obsession just isn't leaving room for OFMD this time? But then again, I think if GOS2 hadn't ended the way it did, I wouldn't still be so obsessed with that either.

Sigh. I dunno. It was a good fun show and will no doubt still be hugely popular with devoted fans, but for me I just can't say it cast the same spell over me as it did last year.

GOD mcd as a book genuinely makes me both so excited and terrified at the same time. I've had this ask sitting in my inbox for like a day now because idk entirely how to voice all the opinions i have about this. AT THE VERY LEAST: It's cool that Jess hasn't forgotten entirely about MCD, and while it sounds like the plans to continue myst are more clear/doable (its the same format she's always done, all it takes is for her to write a conclusion she feels satisfied with. which is definitely a large feat but it feels more in-reach than expanding on mcd right now), its cool that theres still an interest for MCD as well.

CONTINUING: MCD continuation sounds like it is not in reach right now, and not entirely a priority either. It's not even in pre-production yet, it sounds like she hasn't even decided on a format to release it as, which means relatively zero work has gone into making that yet. (Beyond the guideline that has already been written for it in the form of the existing MCD story that we know and are familiar with.) We don't even know if it would be a book!! JESS doesn't even know if it would be a book!! I don't know how I'd feel about it if it WAS a book! She's been vocal about wanting something akin to an anime or animated series before iirc (though i dont remember the source for this so correct me if im wrong), so it could be that thats still something she wants to pursue with and getting a whole animated show at a good quality is hard! I don't know!!! Nobody knows!!!! (And I don't know if she's ever even produced anything aside from Youtube Video Storytelling/RP series. Sure she has a very successful toy line, but that's not really a writing/storytelling medium. And I guess there's the music videos, but those are... um......... bad........ And we know she's no stranger to fanfic, thanks to the fucklist if nothing else, but i've literally never SEEN her writing go towards something that wasnt a Minecraft Youtube Video. On this note, if anyone is familiar with work Jess/the team has done for something that ISNT the medium of things she posts to her youtube channel, please send it my way I'd be very interested in checking it out.)

I think I'm glad that at the very least, it wont be produced in the same style as her modern rps (the style used for mcds3 + modern mystreet content + Rebirth too actually...) because I really don't enjoy that style... to me a big part of MCD honestly is the fact that things are for the most part kept in Aphmau's POV of things, something they ditch alot in modern rp content. But switching that format to something else might not lend to telling it the same way. Which is scary to me!! (honestly I personally think mcd would function really well as a first person visual novel or something along those lines. but if anything, that might require more writing than a book would, since there'd be choices and paths...) And obviously ppl HAVE attempted things similar to retelling mcd as a book before, there might be more MCD rewrites out there than MCD fanfics at this point tbh im not blind. But there's still the difficulty of being able to tell that story well in a medium it was not originally produced in/arguably meant for.

There's also the point of: I don't really Like a lot of the more recent choices Jess has made with MCD's story somewhat recently. The stuff with Irene in Mystreet just feels like a mess, I don't like the idea of the two having crossover. And while Rebirth for the most part was pretty good, there are still some things I have gripes with, mostly with how Aphmau is presented as a character and agency problems she's had since all the way back in mcd s2. There's a very real possibility that I just wont enjoy MCD as the way Jess wants to tell it now. And thats like fine, obviously, but it is also a little disheartening.

and then there's the point of: still knowing that i probably won't like how it ends, WE WILL LIKELY GET AN ACTUAL END. can you imagine that. MCD with an ending. a canon ending. I doubt it would be in the first installment of whatever MCD gets published as (if it gets published at all), seeing as even in Rebirth jess was planning on it having 2 seasons, but still. Even if I don't like the ending, the idea that there will BE ONE OUT THERE for me to bounce off of is incredible to me.

when it comes down to it: i honestly don't have much hopes of MCD ever being officially finished in any capacity. I hate to be a downer about it so soon after news that Should be Good. But the fact that she doesn't even know what MEDIUM she wants it to be in is not a good sign. If it Will ever be officially published in some form, it's likely it won't be for a very very long time. Not like mcd fans are strangers to waiting, but still. As a professional MCD Waiter, I would not be surprised if we are left waiting forever. It happened with original mcd, it happened with rebirth, i do not doubt it will continue happening for a very long time. I'm scared to get my hopes up for a finished story of any kind, because it's never approached Finished before. Its very hard for me to get excited over something I know will likely be abandoned, possibly before it's even been started.

but yeah if we get mcd book ill read it probably. ya know. whatever or something. <guy who is trying not to look like he cares about this a lot

you said you were looking for asks so i thought i'd jump in with: 3 (or 5, whichever you'd prefer) favourite comics ever? if you're feeling fancy, two lists, one in terms of quality of the actual comic, and one in terms of character moments etc

Ok so i'll make a list of my top 10 and say why (i'm also not exclusively doing DC comics but they are the majority):

Batgirl (2000): do i even have to explain this one? the art and visual storytelling makes me ill, the way it explores cass's character through her relationship with established characters like bruce and babs, the way cass is so fucking unhinged, the mother-daughter comparisons with shiva&babs vs the father-daughter comparisons between cain&bruce AASSFHFKSDF. ILL.

The New Teen Titans: this one holds a lot of nostalgia for me because it was one of the first comics I read! They were the first team i really latched onto and by extension the first characters i really felt strongly about. Rereading it as an adult and seeing how it still holds up is soooo incredibly satisfying (dickkory was baby's first otp)

Spinning by Tillie Walden: technically cheating because this is a graphic novel but I'm counting it because it's included under the umbrella of sequential art. it's a autobiographical graphic novel about tillie walden's experience growing up a lesbian in the south (of the US) through their relationship with figure skating. i really relate to it and it's a massive inspiration for me and i think everyone should read it

Impulse (1995): ...i'm audhd...it hits a very special and specific place in my heart...but in all seriousness i love the shape language and the character dynamics. god the cast is soooo fun

Robin & Batman: i love introspection and this whole comic is just Dick Grayson introspection. The way it covers Dick's emotional state post his parents death and how Bruce didn't really know how to help Dick outside of guiding him in channeling his grief into being a vigilante makes me insane...also the alfred characterization in this...the implication that he thinks he made the wrong choice by enabling Bruce and wanting to rectify that by not enabling Dick...

Spider-Gwen (2015): The art and concept is what drew me into this comic. I've been a spiderman fan since I was a little kid and the idea of gwen stacy being the spider person...AND SHE WAS A DANCER.. i was hooked. I love gwen as a character on a meta level and in general; she's my girl

Convergence Batgirl: listen...the implications this comic has about steph and cass's relationship...the "what do my eye's say" scene...lovers. teeny tiny baby run but im still counting it as a comic

...Is it cheating to say Young Justice 98? Imma say Young Justice 98: it was a gateway to me finding a bunch of characters that are now my faves. It shines a spotlight on characters we don't see all that often (like Cissie, Cassie, Anita--girl i miss you) I think about this comic constantly

Tea Dragon Society: another graphic novel! this is a comfort read for me! it's cozy it's sapphic it's a low-stakes

Batman/Huntress Cry for Blood: again this feels like kind of cheating BUT its my list so this is what I'm going with. This was my introduction to Helena and omg the feelings i have about her because of this comic...she makes me bonkers...the things i'd do for this woman

Bonus: JLI (i have not ever finished this one but i've started it many times and i love it i just need to actually finish it)

With delight and pleasure! I’m always looking for an excuse to talk about the manga.

So for context, this idea came from a conversation I was having with a friend about the possibility of a second season of Ouran. Specifically, we were discussing what we would want to see if they decided to revisit the anime. My stance was that the entire show would have to be redone in order for it to be an adaptation instead of a teaser since they left out smaller details that snowballed into larger plot points.

Enter: Kuze.

One of my personal favorite things about Ouran is it’s sense of timing and the fact that the characters aren’t interchangeable. A scene meant for Tamaki could never happen if you switched him with Kyoya, and a scene with Kyoya won’t work if you switch him out with Kaoru. Haruhi entering a plot point at one moment will drastically change it if she is meant to enter at another point. It all plays into the very natural feeling story progression. While these probably sound like they’re obvious elements of storytelling, there are a lot of pieces of media that don’t have that quality to them.

The things that happen in Ouran happen in a certain order for a reason, simply because switching the order that information is given drastically changes what the information means.

Takeshi Kuze is not a very big player in the overarching storyline, but he stands out from the other one-off characters. First up, he has a more personal connection to one of the hosts than most of the other background characters do. And second, he almost exclusively shows up during the more high-stakes competitive arcs (namely the Ouran Fair and the Sports Festival). His absence from the anime is a bit jarring, but not surprising since he also can’t be separated from the main plot of the manga very easily.

For those who don’t know, the ending of the anime is an arc that doesn’t happen in the manga. It was made exclusively to give the anime an open ended but still satisfying conclusion. In its place in the manga was a string of smaller arcs that all led up to the Ouran Fair, including one where several clubs compete for the location of the school’s central salon. This is when we meet Takeshi Kuze, Kyoya’s rival and childhood friend.

I could go on and on for weeks about how much I love the string of events, but we don’t have time for that so I will try to contain myself.

Kuze’s existence and relationship with Kyoya serves three purposes. 1.) To juxtapose Kyoya’s relationships with the hosts (mostly tamaki). 2.) To establish that Kyoya has a competitive streak. 3.) To imply that there are people who Kyoya doesn’t *have* to be nice to. And he is introduced in the same general timeframe where we meet Mr. Ootori and get to know a bit more about how Kyoya very intentionally sidelines himself and let’s Tamaki take the glory.

This all adds up to the idea that Kyoya, despite their friendship, deeply resents the fact that his family wants him to keep Tamaki in the spotlight for their own benefit. It also shows that his relationship with Kuze acts as a balancing factor, allowing him to be petty without stepping too far out of line.

This is established quickly and effectively by having it be so central in the Ouran Fair arc, giving us a certain expectation for how interactions between Kyoya and Kuze will play out in the future without having to focus too much on Kuze individually.

This changes with the Sports Festival arc. Despite only seeing him a handful of times prior, the audience has a certain expectation when Kuze enters the picture. But this expectation is shifted when Tamaki interjects, throwing both audience and characters off. Not only that, but the shift in status quo makes Kuze’s petty but harmless jabs turn into really hard-hitting attacks at Kyoya’s insecurities. This makes all of his pre-established resentment take center stage and results in him agreeing to a sports festival under the condition that he and Tamaki compete against one another.

The Sports Festival gives Kyoya the opportunity to work through some of that pent up anger without his family’s supervision. This in turn helps his friendship with Tamaki take a much healthier turn. This turn is also what prompts Kyoya to try and find Tamaki’s mother while he is in France.

When he does find her and sees that she is in perfect health, he realizes that this doesn’t line up with the description of her illness. This leads him to doing more research, thus kicking the second act of the story into gear.

Each of these steps is important and cannot function properly if you cut out any of the others. So while Kuze himself is only a minor role, he is needed to kickstart this specific chain of events. The role can’t be filled by any other character.

In conclusion: I love he

god sorry im in a mood im going to talk more about why i dont like the prison death for cranboo and why hitting on 16 would have been so much better.

because ultimately right, past all the memories and secret other half and all that, ranboo is all about taking sides and seeing the consequences of the choices he makes.

and the way that the prison arc death happened is so.... not where his character should have led to. in the prison arc, it really feels like ranboo was minding his own business and randomly sam kidnaps michael and then murders ranboo after holding him hostage to try and sway dream and then ultimately ends up killing someone techno is close too yadda yadda we know the prison escape stream everyone was there. and it's just not where his character should have ended up.

in hitting on 16, it's the fact that ranboo chose wilbur's side that gets him killed. he chose a side, and nearly got tubbo killed, and realized he made a mistake. and thats much more satisfying of a death for him!

but another problem is having that be his LAST DEATH. theres no consequences for his actions, no aftermath from his perspective that we get to see. ghostboo doesn't count, i mean alive ranboo beloved.

we dont see how that impacts his marriage, how that impacts his relationship with wilbur, or quackity. and it's so frustrating to see all of these amazing plot moments that COULD HAVE BEEN THE MAIN TIMELINE, but ultimately are dropped by everyone except wilbur and maybe quackity. i wanted ranboo to get a canon death, have it be his own fault through either his own ego or his actions, and then have to deal with the aftermath of it all.

just.... the fact we just get "oh yeah sam threw him in jail one day (for an unknown reason the wiki says), and kidnapped his kid, and then he died lol"

and now we've got......... *through gritted teeth* the mind and soul ghostboo stuff. its just so frustrating to- in my opinion- watch a character like ranboo plummet in storytelling quality. the setups were so good but i feel like im waiting for the secret fourth good sherlock episode.

favorite thing about them:

First off, purely from the concept of his character, I love how he legit started as "ok I know we technically killed Sub-Zero in the lore of our first game but we are NOT cutting him out of the second game, so. The Sub-Zero from mk2 is... idk his brother or smth" and then that little brother made his way, became THE Sub-Zero, and just developed as a character and its just. special to me in some way. Also he is the Epitome of "Nice is not Soft". I think he is one of the most, if not the most noble of the morally grey mk characters. His signature move is literally ripping out your spine (which is TOTALLY unrelated to his cryomancy) and just like every other mk character, he is capable of incredible violence, but he just has this... gentleness about him, when you just look at him, and how he acts. He has such a calm and collected demeanor but he is also very very much driven by emotion, and mk canon comes and go, but despite the MANY, MANY personal hardships he endured from the tender age of super young to over fifty, he still maintained a strong sense of self, and equally as strong morals. ... Call me whatever but I think he perfectly embodies ice, in a way. It can be solid, sharp, and its known to be deadly, but its not indestructible, it can break or melt, and sometimes its so intense in what it is, its so cold that it feels like it does the opposite of what ice does: it burns you. I am not making sense with this he just fucking fried my brain. Also hes blue, hes pretty, hes a little meow meow, his ice powers are cool, his hands movements are captivating, his entire deal and aesthetic speak to me on a spiritual level, and his tits are downright stunning.

least favorite thing about them:

As usual with this section its not his fault IN the narrative but

1) why is the ONLY interaction between Kuai and Bi-han (AS Bi-han, not Noob) is a single panel from a comic from the 90s, of which im unsure about its actual canon state.

2) This is gonna sound SO biased but idc. See mk is the kind of game where there is NO clear protagonist. Which mean each character has to fight for a bit of the spolight. And I KNOW hes an extremely popular character, I KNOW hes legit one of the mascot. BUT... they dont focus on Kuai Liang enough, his story is always cut short to give time for other characters or other stuff going on and I KNOOOW THATS HOW IT WORKS. ITS FIGHTING GAMES STORYTELLING. THIS IS LITERALLY ON ME BUT STILL!!! HE IS SUCH A FASCINATING CHARACTER I WANT TO SEE MORE OF HIM. I WANT TO SEE QUIET MOMENTS WITH HIM, I WANT A WINDOW INSIDE HIS MIND, I WANT TO SEE HIS RELATIONSHIPS DEVELOP IN A SATISFYING WAY, I WANT THE CATHARSIS OF SEEING SOMETHING HAPPEN AND HIM HAVING FEELINGS ABOUT IT. DAMMIT!!!

Can i be enderman anon? anyways now that's all out of the way. God reader getting revived unexpectedly by dream? it's like - a really badass antagonist god that gets pulled out of the underworld, calling dream their "saviour" (but in a more satirical way instead of genuinely seeing the masked man as their hero cause in the past they've most likely called everyone that helped them their mighty helper to the point where the title feels overused and undesirable). They roamed the lands of the smp, bringing terror and hellfire across the overworld, letting their kept in rage stroll free. They end up in the tundra, the burning flakes of ashes getting lost in the harsh piles of snow. They happened to have stumbled upon the cottages of two immortal gods that they may or may not have used to know. Wonder what'll happen? i would like to see your take in this.

You almost don't recognize the sensation of grass against your calloused and rough hands. You were in the void playing solitaire with Schlatt and Mexican Dream, and the next thing you knew you were suddenly pulled harshly by the back of your collar, falling on your spine. The looming mask of Dream is what stood above you, but he looked different. Longer hair, smelly, wearing a stained lime green jumpsuit with ‘0001' sewn into it and covered in cuts, scars and bruises. But before you could even question why Dream was suddenly there, he stepped back into the void, the void slowly surrounding and consuming him the further he went backwards. His now bony hand is still tightly gripped onto the back of your shirt, so while struggling your body is also enveloped in darkness. All it took was one blink and there you were on a patch of grass, staring at the pale blue sky.

"Huh."

Was all that came out of your mouth. You were still shocked at the turn of events that just happened, but no longer grounded. A running river nearby stunned your senses. How long had you been dead? It felt like years, but when you look around at the familiar forest you died in, not much had changed except for a couple newly planted saplings here and there. The swirling ashes you remembered before you died had all settled and compressed into the soil.

The river showed a strange reflection of yourself- your features have clearly sunken into your skull and there's a streak of white hair coming from your scalp along with words in fancy gold letters on your arm reading,

"May thy woes and hurt of the past no longer eradicate the upwards of this lost souls future. Allow thine to be praised by Ender themselves and be granted another chance at mortality."

Scrubbing or picking at your arm did nothing, so onwards you went walking along the forest to what you remember being a bustling "community".

Each mound of dirt you saw only brought memories of your death, of the place and people who sought to treat you like you were disposable. And now that you’re alive, you hate that they technically ended up being right. Your death; alone in a forest. Running away from the unexpected attacker, ashamed and too prideful to die in the prying eyes of your enemies. It fills you with rage, all the lives taken by your hands and for what? You weren’t overreacting, you knew that for sure. And before you knew it, you stole some fresh flint and steel from a random chest and got to work.

You had always wanted to touch the fires you set. The soothing feeling you got from watching wood burn to char and ashes satisfied you. And it made it all the more euphoric to know it was trees of your manipulator's land. Running across the land, with flames as far as you could see when you looked behind you. The heat swirled around your neck and went into your nose, but the feeling was muscle memory at that point. You were still riding your high when a voice reached out to you, luckily when you were finally calm.

"What- Y/n? Hold on, is that really you Y/n..?"

You spin on your heels to the familiar manipulative British voice of a person you haven't seen in a long time.

"Wilbur?! Man, I haven't seen another person's face other than those two addicts in a while- you look different."

His eyes much like yours are sunken deep into his skull, purple-pink bags under his eyes and dull skin. Wilburs shocked lips fade into an opened mouth smile when he walks up to you with his hands momentarily confused on what they should do. Eventually, his right hand settles on clasping your left shoulder, giving it a friendly squeeze.

“Y/n it is so good to see you! You look quite different yourself, wouldn’t you think-? Oh, look! We’re matching!”

The grey streak in your hair seems to make another appearance when Wilbur briefly smacks it with his middle and pointer finger.

“Ay, it’s nice to see you too Wil, but back up for a second alright? I've got something to ask you by the way…”

Wilburs head peaks in interest, urging you to go on.

“I’m guessing that little streak in your hair wasn’t a fashion choice- and if it was it’s a bit strange- but how’d you get it? You died when you blew up L’manburg! I mean c'mon, people don’t just, well…REVIVE!”

He starts to walk. You aren’t quite sure where, but stumbling along with Wilbur while his arm is draped lazily atop your shoulders seems to suffice.

“Ahh Y/n, you’d be surprised. The most WONDERFUL thing happened, actually! Years and years in my hell of a train station; do you know who was at the subway door when it finally opened, Y/n? Dream!”

“Wh- Dream?!”

Appalled, you try to stop in your tracks but fail when wilburs arm is still pushing forward. His storytelling voice dies down to curiosity and excitement.

“Wait, did he save you too? He did, didn’t he? Oh, this is wonderful!”

Wilbur emits eagerism and you suddenly realize what you could do with his desperacy to be socially accepted. Putting on the most exaggerated and animated voice, you speak.

“Oh my god yeah! Gosh, that Dream guy is my hero! Thanks to him, I get to have another chance at living again, and isn’t that just…swell.”

In all honesty you didn’t really try hard to sound sincere but by the look of Wilbur, it seemed to work just fine.

“Right?! I’ve been meaning to visit him in the prison if you’d like to tag along with me the day I go? I’m sure he’d love to see you, since he revived you and all.”

Oh, you were sure Dream wanted to see you. He wants a boon- a trade. Why else would he revive two of the most historically significant people on the server if not to make some sort of deal with them? Sure, Wilbur is as gullible and carefree as ever but you at least still had scraps of mental stability and level-headedness that made you all the more a force to be reckoned with. Not to mention Wilbur doesn’t know that Dream killed you, but telling him that now would blow your act. You decide to keep your thoughts to yourself.

“Yeahh, sure! I’d love to go, just tell me when.”

And that’s the end of that conversation. The two of you walk to wherever Wilbur is going. It honestly surprised you how he couldn’t see through your apathy. From what you remembered, he was keen on being wise about people and their intentions but you guess years and years in hell do things to a person.

Somehow, you’re stuck in your mind for long enough that only now do you feel the sharp winter air making the hairs on your arms and legs stand straight up.

“Wait, snow?”

The tundra was a drastic contrast to the void you were once in with schlatt and Mexican Dream. Instead of black as far as you could see, it was a blinding powdery white.

‘Mexican Dream would’ve liked it here, probably would have tried to snort the snow like coke.’

You weren’t built for the snow, though. Hell- you didn’t even have a memory of anyone living in a tundra when you were alive! Why was Wilbur even in the tundra? You didn’t have the energy to ask, still feeling brittle and tired, back aching from laying on the dry dirt longer than expected earlier.

“Yeah, just figured I’d show you around! Plus I already need to grab a couple things from an ender chest and this was the closest by. I’m a very busy man, after all.”

But why were there so many footprints in the snow? As far as you knew, Wilbur was the only one who lived out in the tundra- and he didn’t seem like the active type at all. There were strange shapes as well, large hooved footprints. However, all thinking comes to a halt at the same time Wilbur does.

“We’re here! You might see some familiar faces cause I live with people.”

Well, that answers the footsteps as well as the tall red-caped piglin hybrid giving leftover bones and raw meat to a polar bear.

“TECHNO! TECHNO, HEY!”

He tenses up for a second, you could tell he wanted to be left alone but that didn’t really bother Wilbur. But you recognize him. The name and the apparel- that guy is Technoblade. The same Technoblade who stood by your side while the two of you blew L’manburg up for the last time, and now the Technoblade who resides in a cottage shrouded in snow.

“Technoblade?!”

Hearing your voice being carried by the crisp winter air, he turns around immediately to see you and Wilbur a few feet away. Techno stood there dumbfounded, but he didn’t know why. He wasn’t particularly joyed or ecstatic to see you, but he was at the very least happy to see an old ally back.

“Y/n? Oh my god, now we’ve got TWO of you? We don’t have room for another one, alright?”

For some it might be hard to see the meaning behind his words. Luckily you’ve talked to him enough to where you can tell he’s being playful.

“Don’t worry, I’ll just build directly on top of your house. Besides, who WOULDN'T want to be near me 24-7?”

“Me-“

“Oh f*ck off.”

You would’ve thought that that was Wilbur due to the similar accent, but there was something off. The slight gruffness and age, yet still succeeding in sounding mellow.

“Phil! How’s my favorite old bird doing?”

He gives you a face. Not a happy one like you expected, rather a face that says ‘really?’ Probably because of the old comment. The two of you briefly hug, Phil’s tattered wings stretching out slightly.

“I’m doing alright, are you okay? Here, would you like to come in? It’s pretty cold outside, you probably haven’t seen snow in a couple years.”

He wasn’t wrong after all. You were freezing your toes off and were itching for lemon tea. The kind Phil used to make when he, Technoblade and Dream discussed plans on destroying L’manburg. Ah, the good ol days…

“Of course! We’ve got a lot to talk about- you still have that old chess board?”

“Yes, but first you have some explaining to do about the fire over in that tree, Y/n. You just got back and you’re already burning down forests?!”

“Did someone say fire?”

Techno has an eager stride in his step once he also looks back to see the raging lights of orange and red in the nearby forest.

“Don’t worry Phil! It’s just- ahh, a controlled burn..?”

Your tone of voice is unsure when a black crow shoots down from the sky into the snow in front of you. It’s left wing is charred and has smoke dancing from the burn. Philza looks at you with a stern glare.

“Oh my f*cking god…that’s it! We’re all going inside now, you too Techno. I don’t want you and Y/n going on a rampage.”

What show are you watching? Also ugh, I hate when you accidentally spoil something you're invested in!

I was relieved actually, I'm not about to invest my time to watch five seasons only to have the male lead d*e off screen because the actor didn't want to renew his contract 😵 i often make sure that stuff has an ending I'm satisfied with bc i just don't want to invest time in it otherwise... Some ppl might think that's the "wrong" way to consume media but like . We're all just here to enjoy some stories and as long as I enjoy it then it's not wrong!

It's When calls the heart. Im not sure how far I'll get tho bc the costuming and styling of the women is SO modern that it's kind of distracting. I started watching it bc i wanted something that had the same like.. vibe as Dr Quinn but like a modern version. And by modern version i meant the quality and storytelling, not the actual aesthetics of the show 😂 at least Dr Quinn felt authentic and not like these are modern women that feel through a wormhole into the 1910s.

Im starting to write a fanfiction and wonder if you have any tips. I love your story btw.

Some quick ones because I swear I wrote a long response and my mean computer refreshed;;

-Keep universe rules consistent to keep audience’s faith in your writing (aka Katara in atla can’t suddenly earthbend just because that would be cool)

-Keep characters as in-character as possible (else you can just go write your own original work- no shame, but no need to use that for fanfic! Some exceptions here 100% exist as well)

-Try and use enough proper grammar no one has to pause to think about what you said

-USE THE TAGS FUNCTION to both warn people of darker/certain topics and give a taste of tone. I try and use 10-20 tags, enough to get my point across but not enough to take up a huge chunk of the page.

-Start out with smaller fanfics- my first one was seven chapters. You can’t start running with a marathon.

-Never admit that you don’t like how a chapter or story came out upfront. This will turn people away without giving it a chance. Half of the time, they don’t notice a quality difference like you do, I swear.

-Following last thought, write a summary that only gives a good plot indicator. I tend to skip “this is my first story, it will get better!” summaries because that just doesn’t appeal to making me want to read it. Be confident!

-Have fun! You’re writing this for yourself. If you only write for the feedback, you’ll never end up quite satisfied with it. People will sometimes tell you they wanted this or that, or don’t like a plot twist. You need to trust your own storytelling. At the end of the day, I write the stories I want to read.

When writing a character who's supposed to represent "good", which do you think is a more effective method for making them less "perfect"? Giving them big flaws to stagger their good traits, or giving them unusual traits/quirks to make them less of a blank slate?

from pixar’s 22 rules of storytelling: “You admire a character for trying more than for their successes.” let your characters fail! let them make wrong choices, even if they THINK those choices are right in the moment. let them make all the right choices and STILL fail! the more roadblocks a character faces, the more we want to see them succeed– the more challenging the journey, the more satisfying and earned the victory will feel.

nobody is perfect, even “good” people, and i think it makes them all the more admirable when they strive to do the right thing in spite of their flaws. they may have to overcome some of their flaws that hinder them from doing the right thing, and that’s where we get things like character arcs and internal conflict 👏

when im developing characters, one of my favorite things to explore is how a positive trait can become a detriment. ive mentioned several examples before on my blog and in my marvel oc tips, such as confidence becoming arrogance, passion becoming obsession, etc. I also suggest examining your own favorite characters, try to identify their greatest strength and their biggest weakness. how do these qualities intersect?

im just out here thinking about how no canon gay relationship on screen has ever made me feel satisfied or fulfilled or even got me excited for it as much as many homosocial friendships that have never been and/or are never going to be actually canonically gay done, and i don’t know whether it’s the writing, the acting, the straight up chemistry between the actors, or some other factors i can’t think of right now that made me feel rather close to indifferent to them, but i just feel like i would rather be queerbaited by a well-produced close friendship and gorge myself on fanfiction than follow a gay relationship i can’t force myself to actually care about just because i need to check it off my Gay Agenda so i am not accused of not caring about diversity and representation. i am not saying that gay storytelling and gay romances should ever stop, but i am saying that i do not feel like the overall quality of the gay relationships on screen is where i want to see it, as both a bi woman and a future film/tv industry professional.

Steam/PC: The Charming Empire Review

Final Grade: D+/C- TL;DR: Not great. OST was very mediocre. A little above average visuals. Storytelling was terrible. Voice Acting (VA) was the only saving grace for this game. UI is terrible/no improvement from the mobile version. Characters were great but development was non-existent in many of the routes. Couldn’t stomach the game to play through everyone’s Good ending…I just did Happy Endings which were still just mediocre ends.

Route Order I followed: Yoshimine, Togawa, Tanba, Sera, Soshi.

Route Order I recommend: Yoshimine, Tanba, Sera, Togawa, Soshi Though it honestly doesn’t matter since none of the storylines are that closely related anyways….I’d say Soshi for the beginning or end since his has the most “answers” in it. His route is pretty painful to save for last though….

Here are the route reviews: Ratings for the routes in this game will be actually higher than expected. I'm not saying these are "good" routes but the overall game is pretty kusoge (shit-game) so I'm rating them based on the low standards the overall game has set already. That being said, if you're use to fully fleshed out otome games, which I'm spoiled with...since I tend to play console based ones and not mobile based games, this game is pretty garbage. However, if you just want some light fluffy writing with tolerable visuals and a simple UI, this game is perfect. I originally played this game cause Tsuda Kenjiro VAs onii-chan... but holy shit after the first route I wasn't sure if I could make it through all the routes.

Luckily all the routes are pretty short....thank god. I didn't bother with the Normal ends cause the lackluster CGs with the shitty auto mode really made me want to kill myself while playing. Without further ado.. Here are the individual route reviews. Each written after completing the Good end.

Yoshimine 6/10

Angry Tsundere Shota >_> Uhhh def not my type. So I chose this to be my first route cause I saw the character pictures and this looked like no.1 not my type I tend to play the routes I don't think I'll like first then end with the best. He's an okay tsun-shota type. He def has some cute moments but it was really hard to get into his character since the kusoge didnt really give him good character development His idle sprite also looks really awkward too so that didn't help. Overall his VA really made up for the shitty character writing he had and semi brought his character to life. Oh yeah... the plot "twist" at the end...was so obvious.... holy shit.

Wtf is this idle..... something looks off....

Togawa 7/10

Okay... from what I see so far... this game is mainly a setup for the Soshi route at the end... I'm kinda okay with this. This route was sweet due to the bachelor being such a sweet cinnamon roll. Luckily his sprite wasn't as awkward to look at. His CGs were pretty weak as well. I think there was like 1 good CG. Augghh this kusoge with the shitty character development. I'm glad this character had some "history" with the MC though that made the lack of character development better. There were some interesting translation differences IDK were meant to be in there like switching black tea to just Earl Grey tea.

Tanba 8/10

So I really like Tanba Toki's design and the fact that his VA is also Prompto from FFXV's VA is even better.The VA suits him really well and his character development is on point. There was some questionable OST choices for certain scenes... there was "happy" music when you were helping the rebels... like whhaatt? THEN THE MAIN THING THAT MADE ME UPSET. NO CG FOR THE CONFESSION PART HOLY SHIT IM SO PISSED. THIS GAME IS KUSOGE WTH D: Then after the confession scene theres an awkward Kiss CG which look sssoooo weirrdd >_>

Overall though, this is my favorite route so far. He had the best writing so far. I think the fact that the MC doesn't get to be with him all the time really helps. There was def. slight character development written in for both the MC and Tanba. The trend of setting up for Soshi is still very prominent in this route...anddd still no connection to any other characters expect for Soshi. I really hope Soshi's route is good to make up for all the rest of these mediocre to shitty routes. (Spoiler…it didn’t) Sera's route next.

Sera 7/10

Alright, I'd be lying if I was going to say that I didn't enjoy this route. ITS STILL A TERRIBLE FUCKING ROUTE. Writing is very mediocre and storyline/development is downright garbage. BUT I fucking love Sera's character trope. Stoic quiet big guy who's actually a fucking cinnamon roll inside. He also holds the knight card as in he must protecc. Seriously, if he had glasses he would be perfect for me. HOWEVER, the VAing in the beginning was a little forced. I think Takuya (the VA) was trying to force himself to have a deeper voice at times and it didn't sound good. Then there was the sprite of Sera... wtf is this hand shit going on his idle sprite?!??

Besides that shitty idle hand...I love his character design. A LOT of the scenes (including the ending) were not satisfying at all....they could've done so much more with his scenes. The sewing scene pissed me off the most....WTF IS THAT "he said thanks" end scene. The best part of this route is that Kagamitsu Togawa actually exists in this and Yoshimine Kei is hinted at...finaaaalllly other characters being shown. I'm also glad of Soshi's end in this route compared to others. Lots of good but lots of bad in this route.... Soshi for last bois.

Soshi 6/10

I'm. so. sad. I was super hyped for this last route cause there Soshi was the only route that was hinted at in ALL the other routes. This route was a whole lot of disappointment though :( In fact... Togawa was kinda the only saving grace of this route. Arrgggh I tried so hard to like this route I really did but the story telling was soooo bad. I mean after playing the other routes you kinda are just waiting for the "twist" that was shown before...so the precursor to it is literally like WHY?! WHY YOU GOTTA BE LIKE THAT SOSHI KUN?!Also there was some fucking weird ass development or something messed up in the translation.... WHERE THE FUCK DID THE TEA PART COME FROM!? DID I MISS SOMETHING!?!?!AS IN (Spoiler alert)

WHY THE FUCK DID SHE TRY TO KILL HIM?! I'm sorry this is the only major spoiler I had to mention cause I was so confused when it happened. Then the writing got even weirder when the "Happy end" scene played where she literally started to call him "Onii-chan" and she's been calling him Soshi the whole time.... even Soji at some point IDK why....top of that...why the fuck was Soshi allowed to do what he was allowed to do at the end like no you were still the ruler howwww?....This route was just full of weird plot holes and shit that just didn't make sense. Since the route was very shitty to begin with the CGs were equally lackluster. Boring scenes got boring CGs except for the last CG but by then I was just so sad and done with the game. Tsuda Kenjiro's VAing talents were wasted on this kusoge and kuso-chara.

The Pros:

Artstyle/Character Designs- I really enjoyed a lot of the Character Designs. In fact it was the VAing and Character designs that made me eventually pick up this game. The art is vibrant is really nice to look at. Sadly some of the CGs weren’t the best of quality and some sprites could be improved. However, overall the art is very pleasant and well suited for the time period it is set in.

OST- OST was decent too. For a mobile game that ported to PC. I was decently surprised that even after trudging through so many routes the OST didn’t get annoying or repetitive. Granted there were some questionable timing on when to play certain tracks but the songs themselves were still pretty good.

VAing- So many good voice actors involved in this game. Tsuda Kenjiro is literally my favorite VA and they had the voice of Prompto too? Man good shit. The VAing did not disappoint. They def. made the game 100x better. If this game didn’t have VAing I would’ve been so sad and I don’t think I could’ve played through it all.

The Cons:

UI/UI Functionality- My BIGGEST GRIPE about this game. I get it shitty story/development, budget art, etc. BUT WHEN YOU CANT EVEN GET YOUR UI TO FUNCTION/LOOK GOOD?! COME ON! The UI is directly a port from the mobile game so it looks clunky and jenky. Not only that Auto doesn’t work as auto normally does in otoges. It acts more of a skip button which was SO FRUSTRATING. I sometimes multitask when I play otome games like check my phone/send messages to people, so I love having it on auto especially with VAing. Additionally I don’t know if it was only a bug on my game but my settings would NEVER save when I would start a new route… holy that pissed me off.

Development of Characters- Do I even have to touch on this? There was little to no development of the bachelors at all… Most of their characters were just thrown together and you were to just nod your head at some of their “developments” as in they would say “I’m partially a cat” and your character would go “Oh cool”. End of story sequence. I wanted to just punch the screen sometimes…

Tasteless CGS- Artstyle==cool. CGs==terrible. The CGs were at really weird timing and sometimes I wished there was a certain CG at a certain time but there wasn’t. I don’t know if its because there wasn’t enough memory to put in CGs for the mobile release or what not, but regardless the game did not have CGs at good times. Leading the CGs to be at awkward moments, except for the “core” CGS aka the “meeting” CGs and the “ending” CGs.

Main Character- She’s weak willed and not a fun character to follow. She just takes things as is, except maybe in Tanba’s route. I hated “being” her… I wanted to make choices at times when the games doesn’t give you a choice.

Bottom Line:

This game is just pretty garbage. I just want to move on my life and pretend that Tsuda Kenjiro wasn’t VAing in this game. If you’re thinking of buying this game..buy it on sale…like 50% or more sale or some shit. The routes are short and not fun to play through. There are def. better choices of otome games out there for PC. Of course not a lot of them are voiced by cool Japanese voice actors but this one is pretty shitty you might as well pass. I would highly recommend Nightshade on Steam or if you’re looking for something more comedy-esque and risqué… Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome. For good artstyle I’ve heard good things about OZ-Mafia too. Or just save your money up for a PSTV for those sweet sweet PSVITA games. ;)

Post 1 of things i love

Okay this is probably going to be a long-ass post so feel free to stop reading at any time lol

Really i love everything, but here are some things i especially love in no particular order I love the seasons, all of them in their own ways, i love absolutely everything about the fall, especially the leaves and pumpkins and memories associated with the season, even memories that are not my own. I love the summer because i love florida and tourist/beach aesthetic, i love pastel beach houses and long reeds in sand dunes and trays of brightly dyed seas shells in stores and i love boats even though being on them always scares me more than a little, i love the sea even though it scares me, i love peers and docks with rocks around them especially in the fog or rain. I love looking over the edge at the fish hiding in the shadows, i love algea and the aesthetic of fishing villages. I love ice cream shops and sand on hot pavement under bare feet and especially summer storms. I love the winter and the snow and the blue/silver tone the world assumes. I loooove the smell of cold air and the way snow sits on top of wrought iron fences and lamp posts. I love bare trees on gray skys and the idea that i could wear a coat and walk through a park or down a street enjoying the weather. I love the idea of shops and streets decorated for christmas, the idea of a new york winter, going to social gatherings in the christmas season. I love the warm lighting and trays of cookies and bringing loads of food to christmas parties for people because its the time of year i know i can bake lots of things without it going to waist. I love christmas parties and new years parties and i wish i ever had the oportunity to go to them. I love wearing christmas dresses and playing with children around cheerfully decorated homes with extra tables set up to accommodate all the extended family. I wish my family had little children, or even got together at all because i love that, i especially love the times i’ve gotten to be part of other peoples families around the holidays because mine was always too estranged from eachother to do that. I love all festivities from every holiday that doesnt celebrate patriotism. I love the spring and flowers and the start of the daily afternoon showers. I love walking in the rain especially when its just sprinkling and when i’m with treasured people. I love making devilled eggs for Easter and visiting my grandma when she acts surprised that ive brought devilled eggs even though i do every year. I love carnivals and fairs and foodtrucks and i especially love funnel cake. I love anything fried but especially when that fried thing has dough lol I love to look at the world in detail, i love architecture and art and nature and rocks and old worn streets. I love the look of europe for its entirely different streets, even the debris on the ground is enchanting. I love old metal, especially copper with green petina, i love moss and the general bits of green that show up on stone buildings, i love vines and i love little english houses and flats with tiny fenced yards, theyre entirely different from americas. I love rooftop gardens and i loooooove greenhouses even though im a terrible plant owner. I love the look of green glass encased by ornate brass or steel. I love trumpet flowers, especially angels trumpets which are my favorite even though most trumpet flowers are poisonous. I love art deco and art nouveau and shabby-cheque and anything gaudy. I love 80’s home decor especially in florida homes with pastel sea shell print couches and whicker living room furnature. I love gold and pink, gold and white and gold and green paired together. I love baroque and rococco decor and art, i love renaissance art and egg tenpera and oil paints. I love chiaroscuro art and violent art. I love violence and destruction portrayed through beautiful art in ways not intended to shock but simply to appreciate the passion of violence. I love blood and especially blood in art, and religious art largely for that reason. I love old Christian and Catholic art, especially of devotion and suffering. I love stigmata and the very muted violence and gore of christian art. I love the aesthetic of jesus and mary and the saints and esecially the strangely eroticosed depictions of a bloody and beaten christ. I love the impression my christian upbringing has left and especially the blasphemous flavor it has brought to my art appreciation. I love the opportunity to learn i had in highschool and continue to have in this age of education. I especially loved the things i learned from mrs hadsock, mr maternowski, mrs downing, mr sozeri (bless his little foreign heart for trying so hard and taking an interest in my interests and caring about suicidal 14 year old me) and mrs kennedy, and i appreciate more than anything the effort they put into teaching something worthwhile, they all taught some combination or art, literature, and history, all of which overlapped. I love technoligy and the raidly changing nature of it, i love being alive at this particular time period where it is changing so rapidly and i love that ive had the chance to go from handing in essays on floppy discs to the likely future oportunities to try fully emersive virtual reality devices. I love that i was old enough when the ipad and tablets first came out to be amazed at the “stargate technology” and that it has now been around long enough to not give a second thought to it or to what it was like without it. I love the internet and the age of information because i can entirely satisfy my curiosity and need to learn instantly and in great detail. I love the application of technology and science in art, in creating it whether it be through new materials and methods we are constantly creating or the new mediums to be able to express that art through. I love my hero, adam savage, and his impact on the art world and this entire generation of makers and scientists, and i especially love his attitude on life and humanity and creating. I love his excitement and energy and the energy and encouragement it gives me and other makers like myself to create greater and greater things. I love music and media and poetry and storytelling, and art, whether its fine art or any other sort, especially when its my friends and loved ones creating it. I love finding new media to enjoy and to hold onto, especially influential and thought provoking media. I love singers with bold voices and music that has melody to it. I love the variety of music tastes in the world and the effort and emotion put into creating them all. I love people who have an appreciation for everything even if its not their taste.

Now is probably as good a time as any to pause, been making this post for about 2 hours now. Note to self, resume next post of love with love about human qualities specifically
