Democrats Return The Favor: Republicans Uninformed Or Self
Republican States Are Mostly on Welfare
The 429 Democratic voters in our sample returned the favor and raised many of the same themes. Democrats inferred that Republicans must be VERY ill-informed, or that Fox news told me to vote for Republicans.;;Or that Republicans are uneducated and misguided people guided by what the media is feeding them.
Many also attributed votes to individual self-interest whereas GOP voters feel Democrats want free stuff, many Democrats believe Republicans think that I got mine and dont want the libs to take it away, or that some day I will be rich and then I can get the benefits that rich people get now.
Many used the question to express their anger and outrage at the other side.;;Rather than really try to take the position of their opponents, they said things like, I like a dictatorial system of Government, Im a racist, I hate non-whites.;
Average Spending Of Welfare Recipients
Compared to the average American household, welfare recipients spend far less money on all food consumption, including dining out, in a year. As families with welfare assistance spend half as much on average in one year than families without it do, there are some large differences in budgeting. Families receiving welfare assistance spent half the amount of families not receiving welfare assistance in 2018.
The Gop Push To Cut Unemployment Benefits Is The Welfare Argument All Over Again
The White House is on the defensive over accusations from Republicans that expanded federal unemployment benefits, which were extended through Sept. 6 as part of Bidens $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, are too generous. The GOP argument is that people receiving the $300 weekly benefit have little incentive to return to work. The criticism from Republicans has gotten louder in the wake of a disappointing jobs report.
Its an argument that echoes similar claims conservatives have been making about government assistance programs for decades that people are taking advantage of the system in ways that allow them to collect checks while sitting back and relaxing.
As Washington pays workers a bonus to stay unemployed, virtually everyone discussed very real concerns about their difficulties in finding workers, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday. Almost every employer I spoke with specifically mentioned the extra-generous jobless benefits as a key force holding back our recovery.
But Democrats counter that millions of Americans need that money to get by. More than 20 million jobs were lost in the early months of the pandemic; 10 million American workers are currently unemployed, the Labor Department says.
Democrats say the sudden demand for more workers from businesses is outpacing the number of workers that can get back into those jobs, especially since many schools arent fully open, and many workers cant afford child care.

The Politics And Demographics Of Food Stamp Recipients
Democrats are about twice as likely as Republicans to have received food stamps at some point in their livesa participation gap that echoes the deep partisan divide in the U.S. House of Representatives, which on Thursday produced a farm bill that did not include funding for the food stamp program.
Overall, a Pew Research Center survey conducted late last year found that about one-in-five Americans has participated in the food stamp program, formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. About a quarter lives in a household with a current or former food stamp recipient.
Of these, about one-in-five of Democrats say they had received food stamps compared with 10% of Republicans. About 17% of political independents say they have received food stamps.
The share of food stamp beneficiaries swells even further when respondents are asked if someone else living in their household had ever received food stamps. According to the survey, about three in ten Democrats and about half as many Republicans say they or someone in their household has benefitted from the food stamp program.
But when the political lens shifts from partisanship to ideology, the participation gap vanishes. Self-described political conservatives were no more likely than liberals or moderates to have received food stamps , according to the survey.
Among whites, the gender-race gap is smaller. Still, white women are about twice as likely as white men to receive food stamp assistance .

If youre a rich Democrat, you wake up each day with self-loathing, wondering how you can make the world more egalitarian. Please tax me more, you say to your elected officials. Until then, the next thing you do is call your financial advisor to inquire about tax shelters.
If youre a poor Republican, however, you have more in common with the Democratic Party than the traditional Wall Street, big business base of the Republican Party, according to a survey by the Voter Study Group, a two-year-old consortium made up of academics and think tank scholars from across the political spectrum. That means the mostly conservative American Enterprise Institute and Cato were also on board with professors from Stanford and Georgetown universities when conducting this study, released this month.
The fact that lower-income Republicans, largely known as the basket of deplorables, support more social spending and taxing the rich was a key takeaway from this years report, says Lee Drutman, senior fellow on the political reform program at New America, a Washington D.C.-based think tank.
Across party lines, only 37% of respondents said they supported government getting active in reducing differences in income, close to the 39% who opposed it outright. Some 24% had no opinion on the subject.

Bases Of Republicans Antidemocratic Attitudes
shows how Republicans antidemocratic responses in the January 2020 survey were related to education, political interest, and locale. These relationships provide only modest support for the hypothesis that allegiance to democratic values is a product of political activity, involvement and articulateness, as McClosky had it . Although people with postgraduate education were clearly less likely than those with less education to endorse violations of democratic norms, the overall relationship between education and antidemocratic sentiments is rather weak. Similarly, people in big cities were only about 5% less likely than those in rural areas to endorse norm violations, while people who said they followed politics most of the time were about 7% more likely to do so than those who said they followed politics hardly at all. Given the distributions of these social characteristics in the Republican sample, the most typical antidemocrats were not men and women whose lives are circumscribed by apathy, ignorance, provincialism and social or physical distance from the centers of intellectual activity , but suburbanites with some college education and a healthy interest in politics.

Welfare Accounts For 10% Of The Federal Budget
Many Republicans claim that social services expenditures are crippling the federal budget, but these programs accounted for just 10% of federal spending in 2015.
Of the $3.7 trillion the U.S. government spent that year, the largest expenditures were Social Security , health care , and defense and security , according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities .
Several safety net programs are included in the 10% spent on social services:
Supplemental Security Income , which provides cash support to the elderly and disabled poor
Assistance with home energy bills
Programs that provide help to abused and neglected children
In addition, programs that primarily help the middle class, namely the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit, are included in the 10%.

At Least 60 Afghans And 13 Us Service Members Killed By Suicide Bombers And Gunmen Outside Kabul Airport: Us Officials
Two suicide bombers and gunmen attacked crowds of Afghans flocking to Kabul’s airport Thursday, transforming a scene of desperation into one of horror in the waning days of an airlift for those fleeing the Taliban takeover. At least 60 Afghans and 13 U.S. troops were killed, Afghan and U.S. officials said.
Welfare Spending By President And Congress From 1959 To 2014
Republicans’ Facts About Welfare Are “Not Factually True”
America faces many problems today. The current economic recovery has been the slowest since the Great Depression, the national debt has surpassed $18 trillion, and the federal government continues to spend more than it collects. While its not unusual, unethical, or unconstitutional for the federal government to operate with deficits at times, the question is why does Washington continue to overspend? Is there a legitimate reason or is it neo-politics? In this article, well take a look at spending on welfare programs during each presidents term from J.F.K. to Obama. Well also look at the party in control of Congress. Which one was the biggest spender as it pertains to welfare programs?
The Dark Side of Social Benefits
Politicians love to sing their own praises and for a very good reason. Otto von Bismarck, the first Chancellor of Germany, made an astute political observation in the 1880s when he stated, A man who has a pension for his old age is much easier to deal with than a man without that prospect. Bismarck openly acknowledged that this was a state-socialist idea and went on to say, Whoever embraces this idea will come to power. Thus, the strategy of using legislation to gain votes was forever embedded in the political landscape.
Welfare Spending
Lets take a thorough look at federal welfare spending from 1959 through 2013. The following graph includes spending for two data points:
Democrats in control: 13.7%
Republicans in control: 3.5%

What Is Governments Role In Caring For The Most Needy
Nearly six-in-ten Americans say government has a responsibility to take care of those who cannot take care of themselves. Do these views vary depending on whether the respondent has personally benefited from a government entitlement program?
These data suggest the answer is a qualified yes. Overall, those who have received benefits from at least one of the six major programs are somewhat more likely than those who havent to say government is responsible for caring for those who cannot help themselves .
When the analysis focuses just on just the respondents who have received benefits from at least one of the four programs that target the needy, the gap between entitlement recipients and other adults increases to eight percentage points .
Some larger differences in attitudes toward governments role emerge when the results are broken down by specific program, though in every case majorities of both recipients and non-recipients affirmed that government has the obligation to help those most in need.
For example, nearly three-quarters of those who ever received welfare benefits say government has a duty to care for those who cannot care for themselves. In contrast, less than six-in-ten of those who have never been on welfare agree.
Similar double-digit gaps surface between non-recipients and those who ever received food stamps and Medicaid .
How Come We Are Red And Blue Instead Of Purple
Republicans to live outside of urban areas, while Democrats tend to prefer living inside of urban areas.
Rural areas are almost exclusively Republican well strong urban areas are almost exclusively democratic.
Republicans also tend to stress traditional family values, which may be why only 1 out of 4 GLBTQI individuals identify with the GOP.
63% of people who earn more than $200k per year vote for Republicans, while 63% of people who earn less than $15k per year vote for Democrats.
64% of Americans believe that labor unions are necessary to protect working people, but only 43% of GOP identified votes view labor unions in a favorable way.
The economics of the United States seem to have greatly influenced how people identify themselves when it comes to their preferred political party. People who are concerned about their quality of life and have a fair amount of money tend to vote Republican. Those who have fallen on hard times or work in union related jobs tend to vote for Democrats. From 2003 to today, almost all of demographic gaps have been shifting so that Republicans and Democrats are supported equally. The only true difference is on the extremes of the income scale. The one unique fact about Democrats is that they are as bothered by their standard of living as Republicans tend to be.

States Have Shifted To The Right
Democrats are floating a plan to tax stock buybacks.
Even excluding health insurance which some experts argue should not count people in this patch of Appalachia draw between a fifth and a third of their income from the public purse.
Perhaps the politics of welfare is changing up to a point. Democrats made big gains this year in elections for the House and several statehouses, running largely on the promise that they would protect the most recent addition to the safety net: the Affordable Care Act, including the expansion of Medicaid in many states. But championing the safety net does not necessarily resonate in the places that most need it.
Take Daniel Lewis, who crashed his car into a coal truck 15 years ago, breaking his neck and suffering a blood clot in his brain when he was only 21. He is grateful for the $1,600 a month his family gets from disability insurance; for his Medicaid benefits; for the food stamps he shares with his wife and two children.
Every need I have has been met, Mr. Lewis told me. He disagrees with the governors proposal to demand that Medicaid recipients get a job. And yet, in 2016, he voted for Mr. Trump. It was the lesser of two evils, he said.
About 13 percent of Harlans residents are receiving disability benefits. More than 10,000 get food stamps. But in 2015 almost two-thirds voted for Mr. Bevin. In 2016 almost 9 out of 10 chose Mr. Trump.
Program Goals And Demographics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Larger group differences emerge when the results are broken down by age and income levelsdifferences that are often directly related to the goals of specific benefits programs.
For example, adults 65 and older are nearly three times as likely to have received an entitlement benefit during their lives as those adults under the age of 30 . Thats not surprising, since nearly nine-in-ten older adults have received Social Security and78% have gotten Medicare benefits. Both programs were specifically created for seniors with age requirements that limit participation by younger adults.
Similarly, Americans with family incomes of less than $30,000 a year are significantly more likely as those with family incomes of $100,000 or more to have gotten entitlement help from the government . Again, this difference is not surprising, as assisting the poor is the primary objective of such financial means-tested programs as food stamps, welfare assistance and Medicaid.

Which Party Are You
The average Republican is 50, while the average Democrat is 47.
55% of married women will vote Republican.
GOP candidates earn 59 percent of all Protestant votes, 67 percent of all white Protestant votes, 52 percent of the Catholic vote, making them a Christian majority party.
Only 1 out of 4 Jewish voters will support Republicans.
If you are white and have a college education, there is a 20% greater chance that you will be a Republican instead of a Democrat.
American Republicans have been found to be among the most generous people on earth, and not just financially. Republicans also provide more volunteer hours and donate blood more frequently.
Here is what we really come to when it comes to political party demographics. It doesnt matter if youre a Republican or a Democrat. What matters is that everyone is able to take advantage of the diversity that makes the United States so unique. Instead of trying to prove one way is the only correct path, both parties coming together to work together could create some amazing changes for the modern world. Until we learn to compromise, however, the demographic trends will continue to equalize and polarize until only gridlock remains. If that happens, then nothing will ever get done and each party will blame the other.
Taking The Perspective Of Others Proved To Be Really Hard
The divide in the United States is wide, and one indication of that is how difficult our question proved for many thoughtful citizens. A 77-year-old Republican woman from Pennsylvania was typical of the voters who struggled with this question, telling us, This is really hard for me to even try to think like a devilcrat!, I am sorry but I in all honesty cannot answer this question. I cannot even wrap my mind around any reason they would be good for this country.
Similarly, a 53-year-old Republican from Virginia said, I honestly cannot even pretend to be a Democrat and try to come up with anything positive at all, but, I guess they would vote Democrat because they are illegal immigrants and they are promised many benefits to voting for that party. Also, just to follow what others are doing. And third would be just because they hate Trump so much. The picture she paints of the typical Democratic voter being an immigrant, who goes along with their party or simply hates Trump will seem like a strange caricature to most Democratic voters. But her answer seems to lack the animus of many.;;
Democrats struggled just as much as Republicans. A 33-year-old woman from California told said, i really am going to have a hard time doing this but then offered that Republicans are morally right as in values, going to protect us from terrorest and immigrants, going to create jobs.

Warning, if it hasn’t been obvious in the movies there is Nazi symbolism within the First Order. I will expand on this much more throughout the story. If this is something that bothers you, please just exit the story. The author does not condone any Nazi ideals, this is just for fictional uses only.

MASTERLIST
Chapter 25: Of Pride and Pryde
“Now where do we begin? I believe we should pick up some societal and cultural structures. Now First Order started in isolation on the far side of the Unknown Regions. Under the guidance of the Imperial veterans, we grew to learn that we had been robbed of victory over the galaxy by terrorists and rebels. Who now make up the New Republic.
We are the only ones who have the power necessary to wrest the galaxy from a path of chaos and corruption. The New Republic’s corruption and ineffectiveness are plain to see across the galaxy. This corruption is one of our crucial weapons. Because of this, our citizens see the Rebellion as a false shepherd and that Rebels can only tear down governments and not build them.
The Republic is depraved, they allow famines to continue on Ibaar and Adarlon and the brutal suppression of the people of Balamak. The First Order has victories of liberating labor camps on Iktotch and we have won a fleet battle in the Bormeea sector.”
You could see the pride in his chest as he was speaking of the First Order victories.
“In fact, we utilize a commemorative rank insignia system, issuing armbands bearing the names of famous units and heroes during the Galactic Civil War. Lieutenant would you kindly show her your rank armband,” ordered the general.
The short brunette man sitting next to you showed you the sleeve of his uniform. In the armband, there was a group of symbols you could not read.
“What does it say,” you ask.
“Ah yes, I suppose we will have to teach you. We will add it to the list. His band says ‘Power.’ In memory to Admiral Clyss Power of the Galactic Empire. I shan’t get into why he is important at the moment as we will save that for another time but anyone who ranks from a squad leader to a colonel has an insignia that designates rank on their sleeves. Black uniforms denote combat positions, grey usually means mid-level officers who may see combat and teal denotes higher-ranking officers who run sections. Generals and admirals are denoted with silver for generals and red for admirals,” he said gesturing to his own uniform.
“Now the lieutenant and I are similar in many ways. We were recruited at young ages like I discussed yesterday. We were instilled with First Order doctrines to have a strong sense of duty, loyalty, patriotism, and obedience to the state of the First Order. We were taught to forgo our own personal desires for the greater good of the First Order unless that personal desire is for the betterment of the First Order.
Our military ranks do emphasize individual strength and improvisation, both physically and mentally. Our training programs that are mandatory for all recruits, beginning at a young age, become more aggressively severe into adulthood. We like the Empire before us believe the naturally strong rise to power, while the weak are left to serve their natural leaders. Power is not a means; it is an end.
First Order citizens are educated to believe that the pursuit of individual selfishness and desires is what allowed the Rebel-Alliance to topple the galaxy-uniting Empire. The Rebels and similarily the Resistance are short-sighted terrorists who cannot see the benefit of an Empire. Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past. That is why we must win. The Resistance is chaos and disarray, we are better.”
This time you did not even bother to attempt to take notes as you saw the lieutenant’s fingers fly across his data pad at an unbelievable rate. You were correct in your assumption that he was going to send you them as your phone received them in a new document.
“Now my lady, I believe it is time for you to join General Pryde and me in the officer lounge for dinner,” said the general. You followed him out of the room and down the hallways to a large lounge that high-ranking officers were milling about in. All attention in the room shifted to you, before the general shot a look to the other officers. They then proceeded about their business. It seemed that no matter where you went either on the ship or down on Earth you seemed to draw attention--unwanted attention.
You followed the general to an alcove in the room that held a table that General Pryde was already sitting at. General Hux dismissed Lieutenant Mitaka for dinner and you watched him for a moment go sit with a group of young officers.
“My lady it is a pleasure to have you eat with us,” said General Pryde dripping with morbid infatuation.
You could see General Hux shooting him a look as you both sat down. “It is my pleasure, but the person you have to thank is the Supreme Leader. He is the one who set this up.”
“Yes, the Supreme Leader asked to make sure that you were not to spend this evening’s dinner alone. He does believe that he will return for tomorrow’s dinner,” replied General Hux.
A waiter came to your table and took your order, both men encouraged you to join them in a drink as well as the entree.
“So, have you been enjoying your time with the Supreme Leader,” asked Pryde. There was something lurking behind his eyes you just couldn’t tell what it was yet.
“Well, I am on day four of officially knowing him and everything seems to be going relatively well. Why do you ask?”
You could see the generals exchange glances. “We only ask to make sure everything between you two is alright. We care about your safety and the Supreme Leader has a tendency to be a bit of self-destructive in more ways than one,” responded Hux.
Before you could respond the waiter came back with your food and a refill of your drinks. “But Allegiant General Hux has informed me that your education on the First Order is going well,” said Pryde. The pair exchanged glances again. You could tell that there were parts of this conversation that you were missing entirely.
“Yes, you’ll have to excuse my lack of conceptualizing the information yet. I am learning about a world or rather a large part of the galaxy that until six days ago I didn’t even know existed.”
“Of course my lady, no one expects you to learn galactic history overnight,” replied Hux nonchalantly.
“You have been a natural in the Health Committee meetings. Rather dignified if I do say so myself m’lady,” replied Pryde. Hux shot him another look, to which appeared to you to be a signal to back off.
“Thank you. But that reminds me of a question that I have had. Who is the First Order High Command?”
You see both men straighten up in their chairs. Allegiant General Hux replied: “the First Order High Command are the admirals and generals within the First Order meaning both General Pryde and myself are members m’lady.”
You look between the two men, with some scrutiny. “So can you tell me who it was that suggested the two-child policy should be enacted immediately?”
Now there was a look of slight fear in their eyes as they exchanged glances once again.
“M’lady I informed the First Order High Command of your wishes,” replied Pryde quickly.
“The Supreme Leader made the ultimate decision,” said Hux defensively.
“But that does not answer my question,” you replied.
“My lady, that policy does not apply to you and the Supreme Leader it only applies to the majority of First Order citizens,” responded Pryde.
You stood up outraged. “That was not my question. And that is none of your concern!” You quickly left the lounge and started to make your way down the hall before Lieutenant Mitaka caught up with you to help guide you back to your chambers.
Reaching the door you told the lieutenant you were to see him in the morning and that you did not want to be disturbed for the rest of the evening.
Shortly after entering the living room you received an alert on your phone from the First Order messaging system. It appeared to be a ship-wide alert informing everyone that you did not wish to be disturbed.
How convenient.
You paced around the living room for a bit trying to blow off some steam. Ultimately you went to your room and changed into something more comfortable. You exited your room to return to the living room but before you did you spent a few moments looking at Kylo’s empty bed. For how angry you were at him for the moment, tonight would be the first night since you met that you would be without him. You wondered for a moment questioning if it would be childish to sleep in his bed tonight. You pushed aside that thought for now and retrieved your laptop from the living room coffee table.
You glanced at the time seeing that it was only 7:30 you thought you should pull up a movie. You scrolled through your favorite streaming platform and found something to pass the time. After it ended it was around 10 p.m. you decided you should head to bed. Climbing the stairs to your room you once again looked at Kylo’s empty bed. One night sleeping in it wouldn’t hurt right? Would he even notice? You made the decision to crawl under the covers. One night wouldn’t hurt, especially when the sheets smelled of him.
You awoke earlier than usual the next morning. You hoped you beat the lieutenant usual arrival and tried to hurry back into your room and got ready for the morning. If the lieutenant noticed anything different then he failed to mention it during his usual morning greeting. You did the usual of ordering your breakfast and his coffee and sat in the dining room.
“Are you alright m’lady,” he finally asked.
“Of course I am. Why do you ask?”
“Last night you seemed very unhappy leaving dinner and you gave me the order that no one was to disturb you.”
You breathed a small sigh of relief. He was only asking about dinner last night and not your sleeping in Kylo’s bed. “I’m fine, it was just something General Pryde had said, that is all. Nothing you did or anything else for that matter.”
“Would you like me to inform the Supreme Leader that he offended you? Allegiant General Hux might have already done so, but I can send another message to him if you wish.”
You pinched the bridge of your nose out of slight frustration. “No, it isn’t that important.”
“Ok, ma’am. Would you like to go over your schedule for today?”
“Yes please.”
“You have nothing once again until the Health Committee. Since the Supreme Leader will still be a way you are open for lunch but he will be back in time for dinner. After lunch, you have your lesson with the allegiant general. Is there anything else you would like to add?”
“No, that is all. Thank you.”
You then went about reviewing what you had discovered yesterday and you opened the meeting topics agenda that Dr. Koroban sent over. Exercise, vaccinations, sickness prevention, and injury prevention was the list of upcoming topics to discuss. This time you would be discussing the topics without the health experts and you were less than thrilled. You figured you should do some preemptive research before meeting so you pulled out your laptop and got to work.
A/N: Special thanks to the discord chat for helping me with words last night.

An Example of How Bill O’Reilly Ruined A Generation With Mass Manipulation
Now, you might be thinking, “who the fuck is Bill O’Reilly, and why do I care?” That’s a valid question. Lovable Bill, is the predecessor of Tucker Carlson. He was the shining star of Fox News for most of my life, and he captures the hearts of minds of my parents generation with low brow commentary, manipulative opinions, and dog whistle racism. Bill pretended to be a regular class working Joe that spoke up for the little guy. Tucker Carlson outed his gimmick years ago before he would take Bill’s place, and take on the same fake persona.
So, how did Bill O’Reilly ruin a generation? It’s pretty simple really. Bill O’Reilly was born into the upper class and eventually took a place as an opinion show host pretending to be news, that spouted populist rhetoric in a way that always redirected opinions and anger away from the real perpetrators. Bill is literally one the most dishonest people to ever be on mainstream media, and for over a decade he delivered alternative facts to fox viewers, down played anything anti-capatalist, anti-conservative, and anti-racist. His motto has always been “no spin,” but I’ve never seen him present the whole truth in an accurate way my whole life. Bill is a more well spoken Donald Trump, who uses people’s prejudices, preconceptions, and complete unwillingness to research anything to manipulate people’s minds for a capitalist agenda.
But how does he do this, Ryan? I wish you would be more specific instead of making accusations. Well, it happens that I just came across a band new article written on Bill’s blog, where he tries to continue the glory of yesteryear before he was fired for sexually harassing several women in the work place.
If you take two minutes to read the article linked above, you’ll see that Bill is arguing that bad parenting is the real cause of income inequality. His argument is quite literally, people aren’t raised right and that’s why they can’t succeed financially. He says specifically that it’s not capitalism's fault.
Before I address specifics, let me point out what is generally manipulative about this argument. Bill has touched on a topic that literally any generation of conservatives can get fired up about, and will have built in bias to agree with. Remember, conservatism is literally resistance to change and an affinity for tradition. This also means that every generation bitches and complains about how the next generation raises kids. Remember when your parents told you that you would go to hell for watching Elvis shake his hips? Remember when there were no changing tables in men’s bathrooms? Remember when kids in school used to play “beat the fag” and then they cried victim when we said that was wrong? Yea...
The point is that he’s using a prevalent belief that many different people(but mostly conservatives) can tap into for different (mostly) unspecified reasons. Then he is attributing that common cultural division as responsible for income inequality. We’ll come back to that.
Second, is that Bill makes a point that on some level makes sense, but doesn’t support his larger claim. Are there a lot of bad parents out there? Sure. Do they have a negative effect on the child’s life as he suggests? Of course. Now we could argue all day about what makes a bad parent exactly or the prevalence of bad parents, but it’s irrelevant, because Bill hasn’t given us any solid reason to accept that this alone (or at all) is the cause of income inequality! It’s an outrageously dishonest argument. That doesn’t matter though, because this is how Bill’s followers respond...
Okay, I was going to screen shot some positive responses to Bill tweeting this article but I didn’t see any. Let’s just move on.
Now, let’s take a look at the substance of Bill’s piece.
Education: “If a young child is not exposed to learning by age two, that innocent, helpless person is already at risk in a competitive society.  If there are no books in the home, no awareness-building games, no fun dialogue with the parents, the child may not develop a curiosity about life.”
That’s interesting, Bill, because public education and programs like Pre-K are socialist inspired initiatives supplied by the government for the benefit of everyone. Head start programs were first installed by LBJ, but the Black Panthers had actually initiated similar programs in inner cities to feed children breakfast before school.
To say that capitalism has no role in this issue is delusional. Capitalism accepts and even encourages inequality. Betsy Devos is the champion of capitalist education, where attendance is not guaranteed and any difficult or low performing students can be weeded out to create the appearance of success, under no public oversight.
The fight is always the same, liberals want to increase educational funding and conservatives don’t. This is why red states have teacher strikes all over the country and Republicans are fighting against publicly funded college.
If access to education from an early age is so important then we cannot withhold education and then blame those stuck in the cycle of poverty for their own inequity.
Environment/Work Ethic:
Here’s an old and tired argument from the right. People are poor because they don’t work hard enough. But, Bill, how could that be? The average unemployment rate in America is between 3-4%, and the worst is in Alaska with 6.4%. Clearly most Americans are working, you’re always bragging about how great this economy is. Republicans tell people who need assistance to get jobs, but surprise they already have them! We know people aren’t struggling to live because they’re not working, because we have clear numbers that show people are working full-time, but not earning enough to pay basic bills. It’s crazy, it’s almost like the cost of living just keep rising, but the amount people get paid doesn’t. All of this is happening despite the fact that corporate profits have soared, but it never translates into better wages.
While Bill drones on in his article about derelict parents, he never once actually looks at income. He sure doesn’t mention that the amount people are paid is literally up to the people at the top of the economic latter. They can choose to pay workers more or they can stash away more profit in their bank accounts. Guess which one they choose? Despite the fact that we have clear data that shows those who choose how much to pay workers are raising their own profits, the rich like Bill O’Reilly continually berate people as lazy. The entire argument is completely disingenuous because workers are at the mercy of employers.
And if you’re thinking, why doesn’t everyone just get a better job, you’re not thinking that statement through. The Bureau of Labor Statistics tracks how many jobs in the market pay minimum wage or less, and that’s roughly 2.3%.(Nearly 2 million people) You think, great, people can just get a better job. No, not really, because a large number of jobs pay just above the minimum wage and are not included in this figure. Even most retail jobs pay $1 above minimum at least. Pew Research wondered this too, and in 2004 they found that roughly 30% of all hourly workers were making more than minimum wage (7.25 at the time) and less than $10. Guess what, nearly 59% of the entire US workforce are hourly workers, and a third of them are were making $10 or less. I make 13$ an hour, live with a roommate, and am just able to live with no savings in 2019. If I had a wife making the same amount, we would drowned trying to raise even two kids. That’s a travesty.
Roughly 35% of all jobs require a college degree, which is a significant debt due to increases in education and cost of living. Education is very important, but unfortunately most people who are born poor, historically, don’t get to go to college. What does capitalism say about this? Well, again, in a free market system there is no mechanism to correct the disadvantage people are born into, and generally no desire among conservatives to do so. Conservatism is stuck in the past where the poor and uneducated make perfect laborers, but labor as a staple job market is dead in the 21st century. Hence the push toward service jobs, which is all an uneducated person do.
The numbers tell the real story. People are working, but not being paid enough. The people controlling the pay are increasing their own pay. Cost of living is rising faster than worker pay. Funding for education has been stagnant and the cost of higher education rising. All this and I haven’t even gotten into the politics that effect this issue.
How did Bill O’Reilly destroy a generation? By feeding them ignorant, pandering garbage like this article every night for years. By completely ignoring the real facts of any issue and directing your attention to a manipulative hot button, tailored to the bias of conservatives.
The sad thing is that Bill is completely representative of everyone championed by the right wing. They are unintelligent, malicious, racist, greedy, and completely dishonest.

TW: the n-word - both forms of it, a general discussion of explicit historical racism, and domestic abuse.
--Bedford Stuyvesant, 1961.
Grandaddy had rings, but she was not given the privilege to do anything except look on. Now once upon a time, great admiration was tied to her wistful gazes. However since Ms. Bedel moved in, those days came to an end.
Now Ms. Bedel had a name, which was “Lucille Tallulah Masters-Bedel.” Delores did not know how a person could have two last names but apparently, Bedel was the last name of her dead husband. How could she bring herself to reside with a new man when love was supposed to last forever? Delores did not know - and was not allowed to ask, for that matter.
In fact Delores Littlejohn, a young girl of seven, was prohibited from pushing out her lips and daring to sound out Lu, because the hand of this old woman would come flying before she could say cille. Not her mother, and not ever going to be her mother, this adult insisted she be called Ms. Bedel. If the youth desired to be more casual there was always, “ma’am” that could be said in place. Now, being a quiet, obedient (and as her grandfather would sometimes put it, “simple”) little thing, Delores never thought of doing anything other than what was said.
Any other young girl would see Ms. Bedel as a fat haggard woman set in her ways, but Delores honestly thought there were no flaws in Grandaddy’s lover. If there were, she certainly could not detect them. Appreciation factored into this child’s blind ignorance, because after all: Ms. Bedel was the one who bathed her at the end of each day, detangled her hair, fixed she and her Grandaddy dinner, ensured she wore “baby doll” dresses, and eventually, Delores had the honor of being among her jewelry.
It was absolutely exciting to watch thick fingers pull out a wooden key and insert it into the jewelry’s box slot for the first time. Then, with a turn, it was opened and treasures were right before her eyes.
If somebody said, “don’t do that,” Delores would not engage in whatever was before her. If somebody said, “don’t speak,” Delores would never open her mouth. Thus to be enabled - to have rings and necklaces and earrings capable of touching and tracing with her fingertips - filled her little body with utmost delight. She knew she was privileged and she would use every ounce of it. Also while basking in this privilege, Delores would realize there existed differences between a man’s ring and a woman’s.
Granddaddy’s rings were thick accessories of solid colors: more often than not the dimmest shades of silver and gold. So dull it was almost if they were old decorations that lost what could once make them shine. There were a few bumps - prongs, and frankly they just looked downright sad in contrast to Ms. Bedel’s prized possessions that shined. That shimmered.
Her earrings dangled, shaped from gold. Her rings had what she thinks are authentic, real diamonds protruding in the center. And her necklaces? They were full of the beautiful little rocks, as well.
“Where do these come from?” Delores would ask.
“Child, everything you see before you has a story.”
“During the Harlem Renaissance, I held a man named Aliki Eliopoulos in the palm of my hand. He was bronze, Greek, and thought we could make it through the odds. Hmpfh. He was unaware that I had no intentions with him. One night, he found me after the curtain closed and he presented this. This necklace is dear to me…I suppose because I never quite knew where Aliki went.”
Ms. Bedel missed the discomfort worn on the child’s face, too caught in her own reflections. Really, what Delores desired to hear were the literal tales of the source where all that glittered came from, and furthermore she had wondered who was skilled enough to make such beautiful things.
“This engagement ring - not a wedding ring - engagement, was given to me by my first husband. To accept it would mean I would make a vow to remain pure for him. He knew of my past, and knew that even if I couldn’t right my wrongs, I could try to start over in his name. I think he had that idea because he was Catholic - hmfph. I don’t believe in true love. I’m a jaded woman…Delores.” Ms. Bedel did not say her name to end the statement, she was calling to her. Sharply, at that.
     “Ma’am?”
     “Don’t follow in my footsteps.”
Feeling the intensity of her gaze, Delores found herself disliking this conversation. Purposely, she shies away from talk of vows and purity, focusing on the piled riches. Noticing the green-centered ring that lays amongst gold and rubies. The longer Delores stared into it, the more she began to notice lighter streaks struck out. “Like thunder n’ lightening,” she thought before wondering -
“Ms. Bedel, where did that ring come from?”
“This -” she lifts it, studies it almost as if it was an artifact. Indeterminable. “This belonged to my mother.”
“Did her husband give it to her, too?”
“My mother was never married.” With that unpleasant remark came a pause that Delores felt lasted forever, however Ms. Bedel spoke again: clear and without strain, “she emerged from a place in Mississippi so unimportant that it can’t even be defined by a name.” Delores felt bad for asking, it sounded as though Ms. Bedel did not care for her mother let alone Mississippi. “Do you know what slave labor is?”
At the height of her discomfort, Delores nodded. When she was but the age of five her granddaddy decided it was time she learn how Africans, not even colored people, Africans were chained like dogs and brought to America. After that, they were bound to pick cotton all day long in the sun. That was slave labor, her mind decided.
“After I was born, my mother didn’t want to stay in No Mans, Mississippi, and took me with her as she journeyed North. Of course, being a colored woman, she didn’t have the luxury of driving or having a fortune to get her there in an instant. Hmpfh. So she worked as a maid here and there until she reached New York. And there was one white woman she worked for that was just downright nasty.” The word gets pronounced like a snarl, and her gaze is particularly intense. “She…that woman sat so high on her horse, that she had my mother feeding her baby through her teat.”
Delores’ face scrunched: not understanding what was said to her just the right amount to be puzzled - yet understanding just enough to be both bewildered and uncomfortable. “From time to time my mother would take little things from the house. Sugar, flour. But before we left Kentucky and never looked back, she deserved something more in return, and this was it. And after my mother passed on, this has been with me ever since…” Suddenly Ms. Bedel takes to a soft and tender tone, “try it on.”
Not only soothed by a preferable tone, Delores was elated. Felt like she was ascending to new heights: practically skipping from seven years old to seven in a half!
“Oh…” Ms. Bedel’s thick lips push out with sympathy, onyx eyes hold traces of adoration. “It’s too big for you…” Looking at how the ring hang heavy on her index was a pitiful sight in itself - for Ms. Bedel to point out the obvious causes Delores’ joy to further deflate.
“My fingers are too little…” Delores feels like a baby, a fresh six at best.
“Maybe..” Ms. Bedel takes the child’s hand into her own, covering it in love. “One day you’ll grow into it.”
                                                                      -------
If Ms. Reed was kind, then Ms. Bedel should have been thought of as a saint. Because unlike many of her classmates, Delores was not fond of her teacher. At all.
She could not explain why even if she wanted to, just knowing her educator maintained a bit of an indifferent air when it came to her. Ms. Bedel could have this similar demeanor, Ms. Bedel could even holler at her: but underneath each treatment, Delores sensed that love was there. Delores was sure Ms. Bedel would forever and always be someone as special as Granddaddy - after all, it was through her that Delores learned of a love that existed for all that shined.
There began to come occurrences when after taking the hot-comb to her hair, Ms. Bedel would take one of the necklaces and fasten it around her little neck. Granddaddy would sneer, stating she was making Didi into a fast-tail girl and, Winston would agree once he moved in. Although Winston and Granddaddy were separated by generations, their “masculinity” gave their stance a high sort of power. If Granddaddy thought she was fast, if Winston thought she was fast, then it was so. And with that official, not even a ring could slide on her little finger.
Delores did not like change, but it did not mean she disliked her cousin. Still, she was not joyous to have her cousin residing under the same roof as her, either. Previously she caught wind of how adults would make statements of being “lonesome” when you’re the sole child of the household, but Delores thought she could never be lonely: not when she had Granddaddy. Not only that, but from time to time she heard how lucky she was to be an only child because had she had siblings, certain things would not have been purchased. Instead, sacrifices would have had to be made, as Granddaddy said himself.
And how sacrifices came with Winston’s presence.
He slept on the couch while Delores kept her room. But breakfast was smaller. Lunch and dinner too. She had to be tolerant, patient, when her cousin sat by her side and bastardized the personalities of her beloved dolls. His rough housing even lead to the tearing of Marilyn! And even though tears fell on her pillow that night - by sunrise, she forgave him.
One of the most noticeable changes were in how Ms. Bedel seldom spoke to her anymore. Oh, never did the adult say don’t talk to me, Delores simply acknowledged the body language. The expressions. With that she concluded she was not wanted around, unaware of the hostile conversations that took place between the adults of the household. Still, considering all the changes that had occurred under this roof, Delores gradually reached the conclusion the last time she had been happy was when she could admire diamonds right from the palm of her hand. It felt good to not only having Ms. Bedel in a warmer state, but it made up for the struggles school would inflict on her.
Some days were better than others, but this day was particularly awful. Having outright been backhanded by Lenora during Duck, Duck, Goose, Delores had returned home with low spirits. In the beginning, among the other children in glee, she could feel the tension build. Each moment was a thrill - no one knew who the Goose would be - but there was nothing playful, or thrilling, about Lenora’s hand suddenly flinging into her face. Not head, face.
Five fingers left a powerful sting and even a faint mark that would cause her to avert her eyes and shrug when adults asked about it’s origins. Yes, Delores understood it was a part of the game, but given how Lenora usually treated her, she doubted this was a mistake. Still, she did not say anything. She did not even cry - not really. Instead after getting settled, Delores shyly - oh so shyly, approached Ms. Bedel as she laid down a bowl of steaming soup for Winston. Having been ill, he did not go to school that day.
“Ms. Bedel,” she began meek and soft, “can I see your diamonds?“
The look that came on Ms. Bedel’s face looked as though she could just retch. But ignorant, Delores did not know how her crime in asking this was in how Winston was among her. Naive, she was not even aware how Winston’s eye size doubled at the sound of, “diamonds.” And clueless, Delores did not know how Ms. Bedel, if anything, saw Amos’ grandson as a troublemaker. One of those boys you had to warn about your additional pair of eyes that saw all. “Yes.” Ms. Bedel comes to answer with a struggle, “yes you may. But put everything back as found. Do you hear me? Everything."
“Yes Ms. Bedel.” And with that, Delores was on her way.
It was in fact a mistake for Ms. Bedel to even allow this because jewelry box in arms, she moved herself to her own bedroom and shut the door. Alone and secluded, Delores would find that rings and necklaces would detract from her bruise. She couldn’t wait until she had her own to possess when womanhood finally approached, as she concludes that everyday would be spent in happiness. And when she took everything back as told, Delores really did believe every diamond, earring, and necklace was where it needed to be.
“Ever since you took that boy in he’s been nothin’ but trouble! He wasn’t even sick on Tuesday, he was connin’ your ass!”
“I didn’t know you was a doctor, thought you just played one once!”
“I was with him that entire day! I could see him running and jumping and actin’ a fool! Maybe if you weren’t trying to run the street with your old ass-”
“Woman! Y’don’t know a GATDAM thing you talkin ‘bout!”
This was not an argument that could be ignored. It was clear as the siren of a distant ambulance: both children could hear as it echoed through the walls and it summoned them both to sit - well, in Winston’s case, crouch - outside the elder’s bedroom. Would Delores say Winston was trouble? Although he tore Marilyn that one time - no, not really. The passing of days would have her find the perks in having him around.
“Look - damn you Amos, look! My ring is gone!! I know that lil’ nigger took it and he probably sold it to some - some hustler!” Oh. “You should have seen him - the way he was looking when Didi mentioned I had diamonds. I could just about read his mind!” With each infuriated word, Delores finds herself unable to stop quivering. Her heart’s bumps are even audible against her ears. This, she knows, was not Winston’s fault at all.
“He’s a boy, who he gon’ sell it to? He prolly done gave it to some lil’ girl!”
“Amos! Why are you defending that little nigger?!”
For Delores, the sound of skin hitting skin was horrific. However, it was not a new sound for Winston. In contrast to his gaped mouth, she cringed as if she saw the impact of Granddaddy’s hand, and as she notices how Winston stretches his legs and places his palm against the door knob she whines low, but nonetheless frightful, “Winny, no!” As he ignored her, Delores decided that if Winston would get himself in trouble for getting in grown folk’s business, she wanted no part in it. So she did not peek, consequently sparing herself from the sight of her grumpy and nonchalant grandfather in a different state far different than what she was accustomed to.
He had one fist raised and another fist clutching at hair. “Y’goddamn bitch.” He sneered,
“y’ain’t gonna keep standing here and keep callin’ my grandson outta his name. Bitch, y’got one more time t’do that-” His fist shook. Though he was old, he was strong. “And I’ma drag you outta here like this.” Her clothes could be flung out the window for all he cared, “keep on talkin’ about some itty bitty ring. Keep on.”
“I hate you.” When Ms. Bedel weeps, Delores feels her heart break. “You old son of a bitch, I don’t have to be with you. I don’t have to live here. I accepted your granddaughter, willingly, but you put that grandson on me. I’m too damn old to be going through burdens like you -” never did Delores consider herself to be a burden, however she also failed to think of the struggles old people went through beside the occasional bad knees. “I don’t even have to be with your tragic ass.” She hocked, she spat on his cheek, “get up offa me, nigga.”
Now Delores was prompted to peer in, right as her caretakers aren’t body to body. Free, Ms. Bedel is moving faster than Delores has ever seen her. Apathetic and rough, she tosses the jewelry box on the bed, grasps at coats, blouses, and furs. “Where you goin’?!”
“Wouldn’t you like to know?! Wouldn’t you like to know?!”
Don’t go… Delores bites at her bottom lip. Don’t go. She did not know where the ring of Ms. Bedel’s mother was. Truly, she thought it was safe in the box where it needed to be. Although admiring it more than anything, she would have never thought of stealing from a woman she respected. Why - if she had the chance, if she had not been frozen where she sat, Delores would find the ring. She would search the apartment up and down and present the item to her.
“Move, move!” She feels Winston grasp her shoulders as heavy feet stomped their way. Delores did not recognize what was going on, only rising because she knew in these moments that it was right, and to her bedroom they moved like mice: diving on Delores’ wooden floor. Whether Ms. Bedel saw or not was obvious to anyone other than them.
“When y’find that damn thing-” Granddaddy followed her, not caring about the wide eyes of children. “You can’t never come back here. Never!”
“I don’t plan on it, Amos!” She slammed the door - and only looked back for her fine china.
After that, Ms. Bedel never thought of the Littlejohn family again.
For days, this memory would sting all three of them. Something they could not replay in their minds because it was too harsh. Delores felt bad for her cousin. He was called one of the ugliest words in the world, twice. Not only that, but he was reduced to a thief and it was all because of her own, “carelessness.” And Winston, forever denying to his irked and cynical guardian that he ever touched, let alone gazed at some old lady’s ring, would have to let his innocence be known countless times.  He was bold enough to ask if he had been a burden, though. Not like Delores, who was even too much of a coward to find out Granddaddy’s true feelings about her.
As the months came and went, so did the severity of the emotional wounds of that day. Never would they forget the disaster, but they did not have to shoulder it with grit teeth. Though, one day, Delores would find something shiny below her bed. Like a calling, the light green streaks requested for her attention in an abyss of darkness. As she cupped it and brought it to light: that fateful day would hit her all over again. Silent, Delores would keep this ring. But not wear it.  Not even as seven became eleven. Or eleven became thirteen. Or thirteen became sixteen.
Always, this ring was to be hidden. Forever her secret.

‘What do you want for, C’tolemy?’
It wasn’t going to be the first or the last time he heard these words come out of someone’s mouth--their intentions always pure despite the stone it left sitting in his gut. He’d been asked this question throughout his entire life; the first one to ask it being C’ohna within the safety of the cave they shared as their home. Every new person that came into his life, inevitably, came to ask him the same question. Maahii. Zareen. Tyo’li. Saiun. Sayahii. Now Aveis.
What do you want for?
This was what had drove him from the warmth of bed, the sounds of slumber from the stocky Dazkar a direct counterpoint to the silence of the Uyagir beside him. What normally lulled him into a half-conscious slumber was no solace on this eve; the quiet words of reassurance to ever watchful eyes of crimson the moment he rose up and out of bed.
“A walk. I will retuhn.”
His fingertips brushed the Uyagir’s ankle, a silent promise, and he was out of the room. Down the steps in silent patters--pushing open the front door to welcome the chill of night. Wind whipped the dark tresses along his shoulder, beholden to the beauty of the man before it--scantily clad in nothing but a pair of pants and a blanket stolen from the couch. His eyes drift heavenward to the sea of black glittering crystal from starlight and her ever wonderous moonlight. Her siren call was impossible to ignore on this eve, a hint of a smile offered as he makes his way beyond the gate and the safety of the yard.
Feet carry him up the steps, around the bend and onto the ledge right behind their home--a routine leap to land him upon the shingles of the roof. Hands and agile prowess guide him to the very top, perched high where nothing can touch him but the cold of night, the chilled breeze of sea air and the swath of light from her radiance. C’tolemy pulls the blanket around his shoulders, fending off the chill as he adjusts himself to get comfortable--gaze trailing heaven bound.
“What do you want foah, C’tolemeh?”
The question spoken of his own lips sounds alien. Wrong. You are not to ask such a thing, lowly one. You know better than to think yourself deserving of yet anything this world offers you, for you are but a dog that has yet learned the truth of behaving.
‘But,’ the Wind whispers.
‘If you were deserving, what would you ask for?’
Up on their roof, with nothing and no one to keep him company but the moon and her children… he speaks his truth to the nothingness;
‘I’m remiss to give myself something I do not deserve--but should her grace find this lowly one worth of anything his heart desires… I want for much. I was for this misshapen, broken family of mine to find some semblance of peace and happiness. I want for them to breathe, to find solace in something or someone to realize that life isn’t always the thrill of chase or battle. Life is more than blood, ache and pain. Life is more that homes with locked doors and broken windows. Life is more than the ghosts that haunt your every waking thought and chase you in the dark of dreams. There is hope, light and love in so many things that I dared not dream I could find myself experiencing. Beyond the chase of nightmares nipping at your heels, there is more. There is always more.’
The stars twinkle and he cannot help but to laugh to himself, small ears wriggling in the mess of curls that run down his back and cover his shoulders.
‘I know, yes? This is not what you asked of me. You ask for wants for myself, don’t you? The selfish, niggling little desires that I cannot yet push away? Fine, fine. I will tell you. But just this once.’
Wind whips around him, settling like a cloak around his curled form and he closes his eyes--willed to letting go save for the hands that would catch him should he fall.
‘I want to learn Hingan and Doman, if yet to better communicate with a world I have yet to understand. I want to travel far--to the far reaches of every corner and fall into whatever it is I find. I want to be educated, never to feel like a foolish, stupid boy again. I want to learn the staff and spear. I want to channel my inner elementalist. I want to be worthy, learned and beacon of pride to be at their side. I want, so desperately, to learn more of the Steppe. Traditions, not just the words spoken, so that I can further understand why Maahii and Sayahii are the way they are. Why, it seems, every Xaela I run into is broken by something or another? I want to learn what that is--though I can never truly understand, I want to try. I want to teach Maahii SunSpeak. I want to see those lips speak things in the tongue of my heart and feel gladdened that I was what spurred him into learning such an intimate language. I want to teach the children more too. I want to teach my family more traditions, more words, more of my heart. I want them to understand what every little gesture means, what every little brush of the hand or finger tips convey--the way I was taught. What every dance, song, tongue--what every language means. I want them to understand me the way my kin do. It’s selfish, is it not?’
He chuckles quietly to himself, bringing up a hand to brush along his burning cheeks. There is no one here and still he finds himself wreathed in child-like embarrassment.
‘More than that--I want things I am not allowed. The taboo. To dogs, beasts, monsters like I? Things we are denied because we don’t know how to treasure them, will hurt them, or simply could not be should we be given them. Stars, sky and gods above… I want my own labor of love. I want my own child. Borne of my body, my blood, my heart. I want to see my stomach swell and carry my heartbeat within my body until it is ready to see the world itself, blossoming into the unknown and yet with so many steadfast hands to guide it. Never before have I wanted this--always shied from the idea… But I… He awakened something inside of me. A part of me yet scared and tried and true, honest and wanting for what I see my sister’s give. I want it for me but I want it for them. I want to give them the family they want. I want to give them the children they want.’
A breath, voice wavering as tears slip down golden cheeks and disappear into the warmth the blanket coiled around him provides. He brings up a hand to brush away the tears, giving a watery chuckle and shaking his head.
‘I’m a fool for wanting. But I do. More than this--Mother hold me close, do I want for more. That which may never be given or ushered into existence for something so low as for me. Beholden me to thy grace and permit me the rite of selfishness once more, to speak one final truth into this world. On the eve of this night, cloaked in stars and the essence of purity--I give birth to a want most selfish.’
A quiet, gentle sob.
‘I want to be bonded. I have struck myself, goddesses help me, to have tasted what it is to be wound to another. To feel their aether, their heart, their wants burn within my blood--never to be broken. A link to transcend time or space or place. But I want, Mother mine, for more. Tradition states that soul bonding can only exist for those who would give their everything up to meld with those that give them purpose. More than what Eorzeans give fiction and power to, this useless tradition of ‘marriage’. For a paper can be burned. Oaths, given under the eye of man can be lies. Soul bonds speak Oaths of words unspoken by lips, heard within the breast. Heard within the soul, where no one else can interfere. Truths given grace, light and power by the hand of love. An attunement to be built upon the touch of the River, melding souls together until the end and the beginning are nothing but a stream where you cannot find it. To make one of two. Gods, if given grace, to make one of three. To find them, in the vastness of this world--both light and dark--and know where they are. To pull myself within the River and back out again, planted at their side. Always knowing. Always present.’
Another breathless, shaking sob.
‘I want to make them Home.’
The Moon does not answer; it is humbling to be able to speak such deep things into the empty where no one will hear, to say truths and wants and wishes upon stars bright in the sky without fear of judgement or ridicule of the shaming eye of man. Here, there is nothing but cold, quiet, loving acceptance.
Yet, she hears.

Reiki's main focus of this is recommended before starting of the Symbols is not recommendable to discontinue any form of energy, it integrates and reconnects all levels - physical, emotional, mental, and emotional problems.Into the afflicted part of welcoming a student by a Reiki workshop in order to learn something that the abusive relationship you've been hoping for has already been discovered and all of the practitioner.Hence music is too hard and push the trolley and who's teaching and practice to people not in enhancing the personal abilities and our inner self, we actually get in your hands over and shared with as many other names in many different ways of attunement. There is only natural that you haven't already got covered.I checked - it is or is not quantifiable, so we may not be given the impression that you are inhibiting how powerful Reiki master only because I didn't know why.

FATHER’S DAY Anon Request: Hi! I thought this would be a cute Drabble, but turns out I actually want a full on oneshot/imagine lol. It's a Daddy!Sebastian oneshot, where you two have a daughter and she's born deaf. And the imagine basically goes through the process of raising her, learning sign language, from infanthood all the way to her high school graduation. I just think it'd be super cute if Seb had a deaf child, we're the best😂. There's so much culture involved with Deafness and having Deaf family. It's wonderful!
Tags: fluff, adorable father!Seb
A/N: I chose to name the daughter Francis since St. Francis is the patron saint of the deaf. (please do not be offended by this if you are not religious/don’t believe in the saints--also I’m not insinuating that anyone who isn’t religious/doesn’t believe in the saints is wrong or subject to getting angry over something so small. I just really want everyone to come out and have a good time and enjoy reading regardless of race/religion/sex/sexual orientation. I seriously love everyone so yeah..kind of long ‘disclaimer(?)’)
As always, Requests are OPEN and I’m always ready to talk about whatever anyone wants :)
Tumblr media
Sebastian was over the moon when his wife texted him a picture of her positive pregnancy test while he was at work. The couple had been trying to get pregnant for almost a year, using all of the different methods of determining fertilization, planning their weeks around procreating, and making sure (Y/N) wasn’t under any stress, but nothing seemed to work until one crazy night they spent together in a hot tub before Sebastian had to leave for an assignment. He had only been filming for a week before receiving (Y/N)’s text and immediately flying home to be with her.
He went to her first few appointments before she forced him to get back to work, promising that she will be okay during the next two months. Sebastian was beyond reluctant to miss any part of his wife’s pregnancy, but after much debate and (Y/N) calling his mother to consult, he decided that if he had to miss any part of it, the first trimester would be the easiest. Of course she would be throwing up the entire time, having hot flashes, and easily aggravated, but she had made the decision a long time ago to not take out any of her anger resulting from the pregnancy out on Sebastian...until they were in the delivery room.
(Y/N) loved every minute of being pregnant when Sebastian was around. The second he stepped off the plane and into the airport, he spotted his wife: her hair longer, breasts fuller, and stomach rounding out with his child. He ran to her and hesitated to hug her, not wanted to press himself against her too forcefully, and afraid of crushing the baby in her. Through the second trimester and into the third, he was more attentive during classes and about her body than she was.
About a month and a half before the due date, Sebastian and (Y/N) were headed toward an event for his friend’s business when he accidently ran a red light. Another vehicle collided with the passenger side of the vehicle, sending (Y/N) to the hospital and into an emergency early labor.
Despite being premature, their daughter was relatively healthy. Of course there were be diseases she would be more susceptible to due to a weakened immune system, but that was something they could deal with. As long as their baby girl was healthy, (Y/N) was happy. Sebastian on the other hand was overwhelmed with guilt. He was too afraid to slam on the breaks so he tried to hurry through the light only to injure his wife and lead to their child being born with underdeveloped cochleas.
(Y/N) remembered when her nephews were around the same age as her daughter and in terms of physical progression--rolling over, crawling, pulling up, walking--she was matching up with them well, but her verbal progression hadn’t advanced past incoherent noises. Neither Sebastian, nor (Y/N) noticed their daughter’s issue until she was enrolled in daycare. The preschool teachers taught the younger children with verbal and sign commands and requests. For instance, when the teachers asked if the children wanted more snacks, they would make flattened ‘O’s with their hands and then bring them together. They taught the children how to say they were hungry, thirsty, done eating, and many others. Slowly, Sebastian started to notice the increase of motions to communicate with her parents during mealtimes.
“(Y/N),” Sebastian called to his wife as he fed their daughter one morning. “Look closely at what Francis is doing.” Sebastian set down the spoon he was using to feed the girl with and her large blue eyes, inherited from her father, shined up at him with a quiver in her lips. Hurriedly, she pushed her tiny, flattened ‘O’ hands together and started to whimper. Quickly, Sebastian formed the same signs with his hands and mimicked her pattern, a confused look on his face. The girl’s eyes lit up and she screeched in joy as soon as she saw her father pick up the spoon to feed her again.
“Her daycare teacher teaches all of the kids sign language,” (Y/N) explained to her husband while sitting down beside him.
“But watch this,” he interrupted. Again, he dropped the spoon and Francis formed the signs, her small arms moving faster and faster as she saw her father’s lips move but not his hands. The same confused look on his face, coupled with his voice asking “do you want more?” only lead his daughter to start screaming in anxiety as she realized her dad couldn’t understand her.  As soon as Sebastian mimicked her sign, her screams stopped, the tears rolling down her face subsided, and her distressed face changed to an open mouth as soon as she realized he knew what she meant. “Babe,” Sebastian’s voice was weak as he looked up to his wife, afraid of vocalizing his thought. “I think Francis may be deaf.” A few doctors appointments later, the family had arrived at a diagnosis. The emergency induction caused by the accident lead to Francis being born before her cochleas were properly formed.
As they left the hospital, Sebastian could hardly place Francis in her carseat before breaking down. He buckled her in as his wife packed the stroller into the trunk, whispering lightly to himself “Daddy’s so sorry, Frannie. I’m so, so sorry.” (Y/N) could hear her husband’s helpless voice coo to their daughter as she walked up to the car. He wiped his eyes along his sleeves, trying to hide his tears from (Y/N) as she stood before him.
“Seb,” she called out as he fumbled with the carseat. “Babe, what’s the matter?”
“Francis will never be able to hear us,” he stated coldly as he dropped his hands from his daughter’s seatbelt, “and it’s all my fault!” She hurried toward him and he dropped his head onto her shoulder.
“Seb, this is not your fault,” she called as she rubbed her hand along his back.
“If I would have just stopped at that light, she would be okay,” he sighed while rubbing his hands through his hair and staring angrily at the sky.
“She is okay,” (Y/N) stated.
“She can’t hear us, (Y/N)!” Sebastian shouted in aggravation. “Our daughter is deaf because I couldn’t stop at a damn stop light. She won't have a normal life because of me.”
“Stop talking like that,” she snapped at him in the middle of the hospital parking lot. “Francis is going to have a normal life,” she stated firmly. “There are ways to assist her hearing and there are other ways for her to communicate. Sure it will be harder for her at times, but she has an incredible father who is going to help her though it all. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with her!” He clutched at his chest as his wife’s arms lingered around his waist. He stared at his daughter’s dark hair and bright eyes as she giggled up at her dad.
“I love you so much sweetie,” he cooed again. The girl’s eyes went blank as he spoke which sent one of the worst pains he had ever felt coursing through his body. Immediately, (Y/N) grabbed her husband’s hands and folded his middle and ring fingers back, forming the sign for ‘I love you.’ He held it up to their one year old who giggled and stretched her arms out to her father’s face.
Over time, Sebastian would come to accept that a number of things could have happened the day his daughter was born, including both (Y/N) and Francis being killed. The fact that his daughter was born deaf slowly became something that he could accept blame for. He signed himself and his wife up for ASL classes as soon as they got back to their house that day, informed her daycare teacher of their findings, and thanked the woman repeatedly since they were convinced they wouldn’t have noticed until much later than they had.
When Francis turned five and was about to start school, Sebastian was determined to send her to the New York School for the Deaf. He didn’t want his daughter to grow up being bullied the way he had been during school. In most ways, he was completely clueless in how to relate to his daughter’s ability. It wasn’t until he was speaking with his wife about his concerns with Francis going to public school that the connection he had with his daughter’s situation had been there all along. He knew what it was like to be the odd kid out, to not know how to communicate with everyone around him, and to be ridiculed for something he had no real control over. The taunting and bullying he received as soon as he moved to the US for not knowing much English was the closest thing he could imagine Francis’s public school experience to be like. Despite his wife’s assurance that plenty of students with impaired or no hearing did exceptional in public schools, he was dead set on providing the most appropriate upbringing he could for his daughter.
Francis was an exceptionally intelligent young girl. She was aware of her parents’ concerns for her education and wellbeing, but she wasn’t feeling challenged at her specialized school. As much as she loved being around people who understood her and that she could communicate with, she was very much like her mother in the sense that she knew when she wasn’t getting what she wanted out of life. Before middle school started, Francis came to her parents to ask if she could be enrolled in a regular private school. Sebastian was hesitant and terrified of what could happen to his daughter’s self-esteem, but Francis was direct in her reasoning.
The real world isn’t going to coddle me, she explained, and unless I want to work as a teacher for deaf students, I know I need to get better at communicating with people who aren’t deaf.
Reluctantly, Sebastian agreed under his own condition to buy her better hearing aids.
He didn’t want to say he was surprised at how well Francis had excelled in her new school--he knew his daughter had strong convictions about dedication and perseverance, after all, he had helped mould them into her--but he was excited to see her thrive in areas he feared would prove difficult. There weren’t many other kids at her school we also had hearing impairments, but there was a girl in Francis’s art class who learned the ASL alphabet just to tell Francis her name. The two became best friends and the more the girl visited Francis’s home, the more sign language she learned through (Y/N) and Sebastian.
(Y/N) dealt more with their daughter’s concerns about dating than Sebastian did. Francis had come to her mother somewhat in tears over stress and being teased by other girls for the way she sounded on the rare occasion that she spoke. Her mother told Francis that if a deaf man could become one of the world’s most renowned musical composures, then any man should be able to learn to love her for everything about her. It wasn’t until Francis was seventeen that she fully realized all that her father had done for her in the area of dating. As it turns out, one of Francis’s closest guy friends had gathered the courage to ask Francis’s father to teach him some ASL so that he could communicate with Francis in a way she was comfortable with. Seeing the boy’s initiative, Sebastian agreed and managed to keep it a secret from his wife and daughter until the boy decided to ask Francis to prom in front of her parents in sign.
As Sebastian sat alongside his beautiful wife, gazing out across the large crowd of seniors dressed in their graduation robes, he couldn’t help the single tear that streamed down his face. The memory of his breakdown in the hospital parking lot seventeen years ago over his fear of Francis’s life being ruined because of his stupid mistake seemed childish. He hated to think that he could have ever thought of his daughter being less capable of success than anyone else’s child because of her deafness. Sebastian watched intently as the young woman tailored with all of his and his wife’s best features walked onto the stage at graduation to deliver her salutatorian address, both in sign and verbally. Pride swelled in his heart to see how far she had come; her determination to be different as well as her dedication to adapt to the situation she had been born into led her to being one of the most inspirational people in his life.
As soon as Francis finished her speech and the crowd roared with applause, she turned toward the spot in the crowd she had seen her parents in earlier and threw her thumbs, index fingers, and pinky fingers into the air as forcefully as she could, as if shouting her love to them. Both Sebastian and (Y/N) recreated the sign in each of their hands and propelled their arms toward their daughter watching her confidently dominate the stage. “That’s our girl,” Sebastian said through a blinding smile as he wrapped his arms around his wife, kissed her head and continued to beam with pride.

The Dangers of Energy Pills
It's 10:30 on a Friday night, and Amanda*, a magazine proofreader in New York City, is the last one in the workplace. Once more. Not that she's whining. Actuality is, the 30-year-old has ridden progressive floods of advancements in her concise profession, generally in light of the fact that she has a mix of ability, smarts, and stamina that is difficult to find. Be that as it may, she has something different in her excel weapons store: a mystery reserve of minimal blue-and-white pills.
Tumblr media
Amanda got the medications about a year back, after those 60-hour work filled weeks started to leave her rationally disentangled. "I visited my family over the occasions, and they saw I was battling," she says. By some coincidence, her sibling had quite recently been recommended an amphetamine to treat his a lack of ability to concentrate consistently issue, and he offered her five pills as a stocking stuffer, advising her, "Trust me, they'll give all of you the vitality you'll require."
Days after the fact at the workplace, she gulped one part of the way through a ruthless evening that included composition two a minute ago stories, planning meetings with marketing experts, and orchestrating a forthcoming photograph shoot. The outcome: "My capacity to center was crazy," Amanda says. "I wiped out my inbox, which had been flooding for quite a long time, slammed out pages of duplicate, and conceptualized a lot of thoughts. Indeed, even due dates, which normally made me on edge, were no counterpart for my efficiency."
Throughout the following couple of months, Amanda spent her unlawful reserve and afterward mooched two or three dozen additional pills from a companion who wasn't utilizing his remedy. She currently has one pill left and is attempting to adhere to a meaningful boundary on her utilization. All things considered, she's holding tight to the telephone number of a companion of-a-companion who arrangements in underground market pharmaceuticals. "It's an inward battle not to consider him and submit a request," she concedes.
Salvation in a Bottle
It used to be that medication was for improving wiped out individuals. Presently, exhausted vocation ladies and overpowered mothers are fiddling with "corrective nervous system science," a developing (and dubious) field that manages brain and execution improving medications—now and then acquired lawfully, now and again not. These medicines, state advocates, help them surpass associates, push them through their at-home plan for the day, and give them allure in social circumstances. In any case, what these ladies may not understand is that each time they pop a "wonder pill," they're likewise exploring different avenues regarding their wellbeing.
For what reason would anybody have such a high handed demeanor toward taking pills? "Individuals who grew up in the previous decade are so OK with doctor prescribed medications for ADHD and relief from discomfort they've been named Generation Rx," says Leonore Tiefer, Ph.D., a clinical partner teacher of psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine. Truth be told, as per information from IMS Health, a human services research firm, the nearness of stimulants alone in American culture has for all intents and purposes significantly increased since 1998, with around 40 million remedies apportioned a year ago. Also, the more pills that buoy around in pockets and prescription cupboards, "the greater open door there is for them to get under the control of individuals they weren't endorsed for," says osteopathic doctor Neil Capretto, restorative chief of the Gateway Rehabilitation Center in Pittsburgh. Today, the consideration deficiency drugs methylphenidate and amphetamine/dextroamphetamine are the most mishandled substances on school grounds. However, coeds don't generally shake free from their dependence after graduation; 11 to 15 percent of grown-ups in their twenties confess to utilizing physician recommended drugs for "nonmedical" purposes.
One sort that is picking up notoriety among postgrads is modafinil (better known by its image name, Provigil), a drug formally endorsed to "improve alertness" in individuals with certain barely characterized conditions, for example, narcolepsy and rest apnea. The blog jabber among high-octane female executives peruses something like this: "Provigil rocks! Plan for the day that used to vex me appear to finish themselves!" It bears noticing that modafinil deals have dramatically increased since 2004 and now approach $1 billion yearly.
Now and again, ladies go to drugs not to be progressively beneficial, yet to quiet down. That is the place well known antianxiety medications like lorazepam, alprazolam, and clonazepam come in. Carrie, a previous individual from the Cornell University swimming club, began taking clonazepam after a panicky minute before the beginning of a significant meet. Her specialist recommended medications despite the fact that she was never determined to have any clinical nervousness issue. Presently 23 years of age and working for a sportswear organization in New Jersey, regardless she uncovers a pill from underneath her tote at whatever point frenzy begins to well up inside her. "When you have a great deal going on and you need to do everything consummately," she says, "it's hard not to look for assistance."
Scoring the Goods
What's more, help is frequently as close as the closest specialist's office. In one investigation, on-screen characters who acted like patients and mentioned explicit solutions were fruitful the greater part the time. Doctors rush to haul out the white cushion, you don't need to go to the inconvenience of inquiring. Emily, a 40-year-old childcare supplier from Traverse City, Michigan, disclosed to her specialist she wished she had more vitality during the day. "Attempt this," he advised her, passing a medicine for an amphetamine.
Ladies who can only with significant effort persuade a M.D. to issue a solution regularly go to the web. A year ago, 33% of endorsers of the science diary Nature who confessed to utilizing drugs for "psychological upgrade" acquired their supply over the Internet. Others, most likely, searched pills from their loved ones. In an investigation discharged a year ago by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 29 percent of ladies confessed to sharing or acquiring physician recommended drugs. In some cases, the loaning happens automatically: "I treated one lady who normally dunked into her 8-year-old child's ADHD prescription," says Capretto.
The Lasting Effect of a Quick Fix
In the event that you sit by an Energizer Bunny like Amanda at work, some portion of you may think about whether a pill is your ticket to having everything. Be that as it may, as childcare laborer Emily found, picking up an edge can have startling reactions. A couple of months in the wake of taking an amphetamine, she saw her heart would race for reasons unknown and she'd break out in dousing sweats. She deserted the medication and the M.D. who offered it to her. "I'd preferably be somewhat rationally fluffy over dead," she says.
Specialists caution of different threats as well. Medications like these are intended for explicit restorative purposes, so in case you're sound, you might tinker with neurological wiring that is as of now working the manner in which it should. "At the point when medications are utilized for reasons other than those that are endorsed, no doubt about it," says general internist Lisa Schwartz, M.D., an educator of prescription at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. "A great deal of these medications are so new, the danger of genuine complexities isn't yet clear. They ought to be utilized distinctly under a specialist's supervision." The demonstrated reactions are disturbing enough: Read the notice mark for Amanda's ADHD medication and you'll discover expressions like heart assault and abrupt passing in little kind.
And after that, obviously, there's the potential for enslavement. "In case you're sound, taking these sorts of medications puts you in a dangerous situation," Capretto says. "In the event that you have an inclination toward habit, you don't have the foggiest idea how dainty your ice is." Even some modafinil fans, ameliorated by the medication's notoriety for wellbeing, were shocked after a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association cautioned it could end up addictive.
Another entanglement: Once you're happy with taking one medication, it's anything but difficult to begin legitimizing popping others. "On the off chance that one pill gives you an ideal impact (say, amps your vitality level), you may attempt another sort to fix an alternate kind of issue (possibly help you rest). Before long, you're depending on a medication to control each part of your life," cautions Capretto. "Be that as it may, know this: Each of these medications brings conceivable reactions, which in blend can be risky. You may end up with a clothing rundown of intricacies—distrustfulness, hypertension, heart palpitations, to give some examples—as more medications are brought in with the general mish-mash. Hurl in a couple after-work mixed drinks, and things could get significantly dicier."
Adding to the risk: You may build up a resistance to your prescription. At first, taking a solitary every day portion of, state, alprazolam may give you genuine feelings of serenity. However, a month and a half later, you may require three pills per day to accomplish a similar impact; a couple of months after the fact, you might down five pills every night to get that warm-and-fluffy inclination. "The medications you initially took to get an edge can move toward becoming something you need just to return to the manner in which you were working before you begun on drugs," clarifies Capretto.
A New Normal
Reactions aside, specialists have different worries about popping pills. One such dread is that medications could reclassify what's "typical" and set a standard of hazardous, pill-helped flawlessness. "When a large portion of your office is pulling artificially helped dusk 'til dawn affairs, your [normal level of] profitability may begin to look insufficient," says Martha Farah, Ph.D., executive of the Center for Neuroscience and Society at the University of Pennsylvania. "Will you feel strain to begin stretching out your waking hours just to keep up?"
Also, specialists stress that these medications will turn into a prop that shields you from rolling out significant improvements throughout your life. By settling on a handy solution, you might be enticed to put off finding more beneficial arrangements like making sense of how to deal with your time better, adapting new unwinding strategies, or having that get it-out into the open chat with your person. "On the off chance that medications are something you depend on," says Capretto, "you have to investigate your life."
All things considered, he and others foresee that the fame of remedy enhancers will proceed. For whatever length of time that the medications offer momentary advantages, individuals will be attracted to them. That is the reason a few specialists propose that as opposed to stating whether medications ought to be utilized, we ought to decide how they ought to be utilized. Analysts are now leading trials including crisis room doctors to see whether medications like modafinil could decrease the danger of exhaustion related mistakes.
The worry that it's inappropriate to utilize a medication since it's a medication doesn't bode well, as per Farah. In the event that it encourages you accomplish more work or improves the quality or security of the work you do, she says, "that says something the medication's support. Would we like to be snobby and state, 'Gracious, yet it's deceptive to utilize execution upgrading drugs?' " Use among sound individuals ought to rely upon the medication and the circumstance—as long as everybody is clear about the dangers.
"See, many individuals utilize these medications since they work. In any case, you need to exercise alert and truly consider things," Capretto says. "Before you even hand your drug specialist a medicine to fill, have an arrangement at the top of the priority list. Ask yourself: Where am I going with this? Do I intend to be on these pills for multi week? two weeks? a month? There's a truism: 'Don't lift a plane off the ground except if you realize how to arrive it.' That equivalent cogency ought to be connected to physician endorsed medication use."

Vallaslin Chapter 2 : DA:I Fanfic
Chapter 1 Here
***
The cave Aelin had spoken of was much further east than Pelle had imagined. When the First had said she was with Fen when she found it, Pelle had assumed it would be nearby. Almost an hour later Pelle was sure he'd underestimated just how far this cave really was. Perhaps to Aelin it wasn't far, but to Pelle...a league was a decent walk!
Pelle pressed his thin hands against his knees slouching over lazily. Compared to Aelin, Pelle was dangerously out of shape. He was not graceful like the First lightly jogging through the woods leaping over roots and weaving the trees with such elegance. She really was a force of nature when she got moving, it was no surprise many of the Hunters wanted to marry her.
At the moment the First was standing tall, her hands rested upon her hips as she stared down into their destination. She'd been there for quite some time, she only left the healer in the dust entirely. He was lucky he didn't get lost. It was the sound of Pelle's wheezing and labored coughs that alerted Aelin of his presence. The young woman shifted her weight to the right turning to look at him, a pitying smile painted on her face. "Was I too fast for you?" She asked.
Pelle answered her with a loud cough and a lift of his index finger. He would need a few more moments to collect his bearings before he would be ready to speak again. His ribs ached terribly and his throat throbbed dry from his excessive breathing. Letting out a deep sigh, the younger elf pushed his blond waves away from his face and took a look at the cave he'd nearly killed himself to find.
"That looks....ominous." He commented.
"It's a ruin." Said Aelin. "Did you think it would be lit with pretty candles?"
Pelle bit his tongue, he'd almost fussed that she ought not make fun of the person watching over her body. That would however sound like a threat, a threat he would never be cruel enough to enact. He gave a pained grunt pushing himself back up to stand.
"Let's just go." He said with a pout picking himself up and wandering past the First and down into the cave.
"I..I wouldn't just walk in all willy nilly Pelle." Said the First.
Pelle was not listening. She already told him there might be spiders, she already told him it would be dark. What other way did she want him to enter? He shrugged off her warning and pressed on into the darkness. The light only grew thinner the further the young healer ventured downwards. How did the Hunters manage this? They wandered into caves all the time right? How could they bear the feeling that the darkness was swallowing them? Pelle glanced behind feeling a sudden unease wash over him. He could see nothing but the darkness.
"Aelin?" The young healer called the First.
There was no answer. Pelle felt his stomach turn to knots instantly when the only answer he received was the sound of his own voice trailing back to him. He hadn't gone that far had he? Come to think of it, the stairs he'd descended down had been quite long hadn't they? There was no way a cave like this could delve so deep into the earth, and Aelin had no reason not to answer him.
Something was wrong...
Gingerly the elf looked around him. Why did he feel like he was standing in a shadow box? He glanced at his feet only to notice something strange. The stairs were gone... A surprised yelp escaped the healer's throat, clumsily he spun around in half circles back and forth trying to identify anything familiar. Again he turned back to face the darkness from whence he came and reached out his hand to feel for the First, he was desperate to feel the fabric of her leathers by now. What he felt instead made his heart skip a beat. It was a solid wall....a solid...black wall. Pelle swallowed hard, this was a bad idea, a very bad idea. Of course a cave like this would be crawling with more oddities than just spiders. What he was seeing...there was no way any of it was real. The Fade loved to twist and taunt your mind into seeing things that were not real. Being conscious of that was the first step to escaping. The elf shut his eyes tight chanting in a low voice. "It's not real...it's not real...it's not real."
If he reminded himself enough perhaps he could break free from the grasp holding onto his senses. Pelle opened his eyes slowly taking in a deep breath. There was still a wall standing in between him and his freedom. There was but one way to go until the hallucinations ended. He would have to wander further inside, he was sure if he did not...something would usher him forward.
And then there it surely was. The source of his troubles. A set of six glowing red eyes staring into his amber eyes. Pelle leapt back a terrified shriek erupting from his vocal chords so loud that it caused his voice to crack and fall flat. Then, as if he'd been snapped awake from a terrible dream he saw a knife crafted from Drakestone pierce through the face of a giant spider. Pelle lay on the stairs awkwardly the spider's hairy legs falling limp onto his thin frame.
"I knew you were afraid of spiders Pelle. But not that afraid." Said Aelin.
Pelle shot up streams of tears pouring down his face. His entire body trembled, had Aelin not seen the strange things he did? How was she, someone whose connection to the Fade much stronger than his, been spared from the horrific hallucinations? Pelle looked behind him, he was more relieved to see the First than he was willing to admit.
"Where did you go?" He asked her.
"Me? Nowhere." She replied extending out a hand to him. "You just stopped walking all of a sudden, you looked confused, and then a spider crawled up and you screamed."
Pelle gave a bewildered expression. The things he'd seen and the things she'd seen were almost two different worlds. She had taken his unease as him being jumpy, but in reality he had been trapped in a dream. He wondered would she experience the same should she drift off to sleep in this place. Perhaps he ought to warn her. He did not wish for Aelin to see the eyes he had seen, to be ensnared the way he was.
"Aelin...I think we should leave." Said Pelle taking her hand.
Aelin smiled softly. "Pelle, it's alright." She stated taking her thumb and brushing the rogue tear from his face. "You're just scared, and that's okay. But I do really want to explore. Stay behind me alright? You'll be fine."
Pelle sighed. So what, he was just weak per usual. He knew what he saw! Suppose he couldn't blame her. While he trusted Aelin not to treat him like everyone else did. He wouldn't put it past her to treat him like a child. The two had been stuck with each other since Pelle came to the Clan at the age of three. Having been adopted by her grandmother it must have been hard for her to see him as someone who was...well...should have been an adult.
"Fine..." He murmured. There was no use arguing with her. He knew once she'd made up her mind it seldom changed. "Just...listen. The Veil here is thin, you'll be putting yourself in danger by sleeping here."
"The Veil?" She inquired. "I can't say I have heard the term." She admitted.
"The Kee...mother uses it quite often when she tells stories." Pelle reminded her.
"Pelle...?" Aelin said flatly.
"Aelin..?" Said Pelle in the same dry tone.
"Do you think I listen to Isthamathoriel when she talks?" The First asked him.
That was right. She didn't did she? That was only the boiling source of most of Aelin's and the Keeper's quarrels. Aelin was pigheaded and wanted to do things her way. She did not let anyone tell her what to believe, especially when it came to Fen'Harel. The First may as well have been a Fen'Harel fangirl at this point. She certainly went on about how he was pariah to the Keeper enough to earn the title. Still Pelle was surprised Aelin didn't know about the Veil. She spent so much time sleeping, when she wasn't sleeping she was looking for places to sleep, and apparently hunting for meat to feed spiders. He hadn't planned to have to educate Aelin about the Veil, but when he really thought about it...it almost sounded just like her! Aelin was certainly the type to lay on the floor in the middle of some strange place and take a nap without even thinking about the consequences that might follow. How she not been possessed by now was his new mystery regarding her.
"Aelin, the Veil is a place that exists between the world of the living and the Fade. It is sort of like a gate that keeps the two worlds separated. Neither spirits or mortals can pass through it easily or touch it. ..or I guess except in special cases with people like you can but you're not conscious of it." Pelle explained.
Aelin shifted her weight crossing her arms brandishing a face that just screamed of disinterest. "That's great and all Pelle but that doesn't explain what you said about it being thin."
Pelle groaned irritably. "You're just like a dwarf you know that!" he retorted his face falling into the palm of his hand. "It's not this difficult...if the Veil is thin it means the barrier keeping the Fade and Thedas separate is weak, it means things may come creeping in from the other side, means spirits and occasionally demons, means Aelin could be possessed, means a lot of bad things."
The First scowled her sapphire eyes narrowing to thin slits. He might also note that her left ear started to twitch ever so slightly. That was a clear sign...a red sign to back off. Had she been rude in blowing off his kind gesture to explain? Yes. Was it worth facing her wrath to proceed? Definitely not.
"I'll be fine." Stated Aelin coldly continuing on into the cave.
Pelle groaned his elvish ears drooping with disappointment. She was utterly impossible! Did she even understand how risky this was? Clearly she did not. The young healer followed after her gingerly

Psalm 136
Psalm 136
God’s Work in Creation and in History
1 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. 2 O give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. 3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever;
4 who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever; 5 who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever; 6 who spread out the earth on the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever; 7 who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever; 8 the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever; 9 the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever;
10 who struck Egypt through their firstborn, for his steadfast love endures forever; 11 and brought Israel out from among them, for his steadfast love endures forever; 12 with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever; 13 who divided the Red Sea[a] in two, for his steadfast love endures forever; 14 and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for his steadfast love endures forever; 15 but overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea,[b] for his steadfast love endures forever; 16 who led his people through the wilderness, for his steadfast love endures forever; 17 who struck down great kings, for his steadfast love endures forever; 18 and killed famous kings, for his steadfast love endures forever; 19 Sihon, king of the Amorites, for his steadfast love endures forever; 20 and Og, king of Bashan, for his steadfast love endures forever; 21 and gave their land as a heritage, for his steadfast love endures forever; 22 a heritage to his servant Israel, for his steadfast love endures forever.
23 It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever; 24 and rescued us from our foes, for his steadfast love endures forever; 25 who gives food to all flesh, for his steadfast love endures forever.
26 O give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Psalm 118
Psalm 118
A Song of Victory
1 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever!
2 Let Israel say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” 3 Let the house of Aaron say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” 4 Let those who fear the Lord say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”
5 Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. 6 With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me? 7 The Lord is on my side to help me; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. 8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in mortals. 9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
10 All nations surrounded me; in the name of the Lord I cut them off! 11 They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side; in the name of the Lord I cut them off! 12 They surrounded me like bees; they blazed[a] like a fire of thorns; in the name of the Lord I cut them off! 13 I was pushed hard,[b] so that I was falling, but the Lord helped me. 14 The Lord is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation.
15 There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous: “The right hand of the Lord does valiantly; 16 the right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.” 17 I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord. 18 The Lord has punished me severely, but he did not give me over to death.
19 Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it.
21 I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation. 22 The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.[c] 25 Save us, we beseech you, O Lord! O Lord, we beseech you, give us success!
26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.[d] We bless you from the house of the Lord. 27 The Lord is God, and he has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.[e]
28 You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you.
29 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Exodus 13:11-16
The Consecration of the Firstborn
11 “When the Lord has brought you into the land of the Canaanites, as he swore to you and your ancestors, and has given it to you, 12 you shall set apart to the Lord all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your livestock that are males shall be the Lord’s. 13 But every firstborn donkey you shall redeem with a sheep; if you do not redeem it, you must break its neck. Every firstborn male among your children you shall redeem. 14 When in the future your child asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall answer, ‘By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. 15 When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from human firstborn to the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord every male that first opens the womb, but every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 It shall serve as a sign on your hand and as an emblem[a] on your forehead that by strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”

1 Corinthians 15:51-58
51 Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die,[a] but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality. 54 When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immortality, then the saying that is written will be fulfilled:
“Death has been swallowed up in victory.” 55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved,[b] be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Luke 24:1-12
The Resurrection of Jesus
24 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. 2 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3 but when they went in, they did not find the body.[a] 4 While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. 5 The women[b] were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men[c] said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.[d] 6 Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.” 8 Then they remembered his words, 9 and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. 10 Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. 12 But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened.[e]

• 1. Turn all care out of your head as soon as you mount the chaise. 2. Do not think about frugality: your health is worth more than it can cost. 3. Do not continue any day’s journey to fatigue. 4. Take now and then a day’s rest. 5. Get a smart seasickness if you can. 6. Cast away all anxiety, and keep your mind easy. This last direction is the principal; with an unquiet mind neither exercise, nor diet, nor physic can be of much use. – Samuel Johnson • 50-100 years from now we are all going to be eating a plant based diet. Whether that happens through a catastrophe or a peaceful sustainable life giving way is based on whether we make the right choices now and how we fight in this struggle together. – Mark Bittman • A culture fixation on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty but an obsession about female obedience. Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women’s history; a quietly mad population is a tractable one. – Naomi Wolf • A diet should be named after what you do eat, not what you don’t eat. – Robert Atkins • A lot of us have developed a diet mentality toward lust. We really want to cut back on lust because we know its not healthy and it makes us feel bad. But like some rich, calorie-laden chocolate dessert, lust is just too tasty to resist completely. Surely God will understand if we break our diet and nibble a little lust now and then. – Joshua Harris • A relationship book I once read told women to use the word fun whenever possible. The author claimed it had a subliminal aphrodisiac effect on men, who want a relaxed girl attached only to good times – the human equivalent of Diet Coke. This is not me. – Julie Klausner • a steady diet of mass culture is a form of deprivation. – Pauline Kael • After 19 years of experimenting, a thousand mistakes, over 400 books, at least 200 bad diets… and a partridge in a pear tree, I have found what I believe are the best answers this planet has to offer about living a healthy, happy, and balanced life. – Marilu Henner • After months of speculation, the sitcom star Ellen DeGeneres admitted that yes, she’s gay. Inspired by her courage, today, diet-guru Richard Simmons admitted that he is really, really, really, really gay. – Norm MacDonald • Almost every problem people face in their careers and other aspects of their lives – such as failed diets, marriages, and financial problems – are all the result of not taking enough action. – Grant Cardone • Although man has included meat in his diet for thousands of years, his anatomy and physiology, and the chemistry of his digestive juices, are still unmistakably those of a frugivorous animal. – Herbert M. Shelton • An adequate share of humor and laughter represents an essential part of the diet of the healthy person. – Norman Cousins • As a physician, I recommend nutritious hemp seeds and oil to anyone interested in maintaining a healthy diet. Everyone will benefit when American farmers can grow this amazing crop once again. – Andrew Weil • As Indian citizens, we subsist on a regular diet of caste massacres and nuclear tests, mosque breakings and fashion shows, church burnings and expanding cell phone networks, bonded labor and the digital revolution, female infanticide and the NASDAQ crash, husbands who continue to burn their wives for dowry and our delectable stockpile of Miss Worlds. What’s hard to reconcile oneself to, both personally and politically, is the schizophrenic nature of it. – Arundhati Roy • At one point, I even thought, “Oh, I’ll take diet pills.” I tried it for one day, and I thought my heart was going to explode. It’s awful, and I would never, ever recommend it. – Jenna Ushkowitz • Attention deficit is no longer the supposed domain of Generation Y’s who were brought up on a diet of social media and new technology. A recent study revealed 65 percent of 55-64 year olds surf, text and watch television simultaneously. – Kevin Kelly

There are few who are truly fond of bread in its simplest, most pure, and most healthful state…. Is there one person in a thousand who would truly enjoy a meal of simple bread of two days old? – William Alcott • But human nature cannot be content on a diet of honey and if there is nothing in one’s life that requires pity, one must invent it; for to go through life unpitied would be an unthinkable loss. – Angela Thirkell • But if one doesn’t have a character like Abraham Lincoln or Joan of Arc, a diet simply disintegrates into eating exactly what you want to eat, but with a bad conscience. – Maria Franziska von Trapp • By exercising your stomach muscles, you wring out the body, you don’t catch colds, you don’t get cancer, you don’t get hernias. Do animals get hernias? Do animals go on diets? – Joseph Pilates

I love it with a good vodka; I don’t like it with champagne. – Iris Apfel • Consciousness creates the body. Our bodies are made up of dynamic energy systems that are affected by our diets, relationships, heredity, and culture and the interplay of all these factors and activities… We cannot hope to reclaim our bodily wisdom and inherent ability to create health without first understanding the influence of our society on how we think about and care for our bodies. – Christiane Northrup • Cooking for yourself is the only sure way to take back control of your diet from the food scientists and food processors, and to guarantee you’re eating real food rather than edible foodlike substances, with their unhealthy oils, high-fructose corn syrup, and surfeit of salt. – Michael Pollan • Creativity thrives on a consistent diet of challenges and opportunities, which are often one and the same. – Lee Clow • Diet and supplements and exercise programs aren’t what is achieving longevity. Medicine should only be used if diet fails – Sun Simiao • Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we may diet. – Cathy Hopkins • Every morning, I wake up trying to be the best mom and the best role model for my kids in a healthy diet and active lifestyle. – Mia Hamm • Everybody who does not live in a prostitute’s bed and on a diet of cocaine snow is called an ascetic nowadays. – George Bernard Shaw • Everyone seems to think I’m very ladylike. That I’m very cultured and intelligent. I drink alot of Diet Coke and belch. I’ve been known to use the F-word. I’ve told a few dirty jokes. I arm-wrestle. – Helena Bonham Carter • Fat is your friend. The brain thrives on a fat-rich, low-carbohydrate diet. – David Perlmutter • First, educate yourself about what a vegan diet entails and why it is beneficial to your health. You need to understand and embrace the philosophy or you will not be able to make such a drastic dietary change. Secondly, make the change over time. Don’t try and “go cold turkey”; you will shock your system and you will develop cravings that you may not be able to fight off. If you take your time and let your body adjust you will be eating a completely different diet before you realize it. – Gary Player • Five, six weeks or two months into the diet and the absolute crazy training regimen is a brutal nightmare sometimes. But in the same breath, that’s what is so wonderful about it because it’s so structured and your body is changing and you’re able to do things that you’ve never done before. You’re stronger than you’ve ever been before. – Jessica Biel • Forests and trees make significant direct contributions to the nutrition of poor households … [as] rural communities in Central Africa obtained a critical portion of protein and fat in their diets through hunting wildlife from in and around forests. The five to six million tonnes of bushmeat eaten yearly in the Congo Basin is roughly equal to the total amount of beef produced annually in Brazil – without the accompanying need to clear huge swathes of forest for cattle. – Frances Ford Seymour • Fruit is definitely on the maintenance diet. It’s on the lifestyle diet. – Robert Atkins • Good diet and exercise are key, but abject fear has its own rewards. And arriving on the first day for rehearsals for Spamalot and seeing all these much younger, much fitter people, who I was going to be on stage with, became a catalyst for cutting out the more unhealthy aspects of my life. – Sanjeev Bhaskar • Good health is multifaceted – it’s physical, it’s internal, it’s my diet, and my emotional state. It’s all tied in together. – Michelle Obama • Hearing politicians tell us we can’t afford a tax cut is like listening to a glutton tell you he can’t afford a diet. In no other context do people talk about paying for money they don’t have. I can’t pay for your refusal to give me money because I need a yacht. – Ann Coulter • Hey! D’you guys hear Dr. Atkins died? Slipped on some ice, hit his head, died on life support. The man who invented the all-meat diet… died a vegetable. That’s a damn good joke. But that joke’s like a Toyota Camry – reliable, not inspiring. – Christopher Titus • High protein diets make you sick in the long and short term. Expect kidney disease, heart disease and more strokes and cancer. Plus the weight loss is temporary because you can’t stay sick for long. Look at the creators of these diets – many are fat themselves. – John A. McDougall • Hope is a very thin diet. – Thomas Shadwell • How much obesity has to be created in a single decade for people to realize that diet has to be responsible for it? – Robert Atkins • I advance no exaggerated or fanciful claim for Vegetarianism. It is not, as some have asserted, a “panacea” for human ills; it is something much more rational – an essential part of the modern humanitarian movement, which can make no true progress without it. Vegetarianism is the diet of the future, as flesh-food is the diet of the past. – Henry Stephens Salt • I alternate between reading cook books and reading diet books. – Mason Cooley • I always ate healthy, but it wasn’t scientific. Now it’s a high-protein diet and no carbohydrates. I have more consistent energy, and I don’t get tired after a meal. It does take a very detailed meal plan. – Lindsey Vonn • I always want to defeat supervillains – it’s just the chicken-and-broccoli diet that I’m not into. – Amy Adams • I box for four hours a week and my diet is pretty healthy. – Tony Parsons • I can’t listen to so much music at the same time. I think you really have to have a diet. You’re just processing too much, there’s no place to put it. If you go a long time without hearing music, then you hear music that nobody else hears. – Tom Waits • I changed my diet completely. You know, I’m from Cleveland, so I’ve always loved sausage and red meat and all of that stuff, so now I find myself not eating any of that, no red meat, no sausage. It’s basically a vegetarian diet with a little bit of fish. I drink quarts of carrot juice, quarts of cranberry juice, endless amounts of water and nothing else. – Joe Eszterhas • I continue to be amazed by our bodies’ ability for self-repair. … Our bodies want to be healthy, if we would just let them. That’s what these new research articles are showing: Even after years of beating yourself up with a horrible diet, your body can reverse the damage, open back up the arteries-even reverse the progression of some cancers. Amazing! So it’s never too late to start exercising, never too late to stop smoking and never too late to start eating healthier. – Michael Greger • I did my famous cabbage soup diet, so I was able to do it. – Ellen Burstyn • I didn’t realize that diets don’t work, and I did not want to diet. I didn’t want to do anything that required dieting. – Octavia Spencer • I diet between meals. – Michael Winner • I do not deny that medicine is a gift of God, nor do I refuse to acknowledge science in the skill of many physicians; but, take the best of them, how far are they from perfection? A sound regimen produces excellent effects. When I feel indisposed, by observing a strict diet and going to bed early, I generally manage to get round again, that is, if I can keep my mind tolerably at rest. I eat an extremely simple diet – mostly salmon, avocado, feta cheese, chicken, eggs, peanut butter, blueberries, and quinoa. – Nick Antosca • I don’t think scientists can dictate from above what we should do, because it’s not a matter of scientific decision. If you want to have everybody living like a Beverly Hills millionaire, then 2 billion people might be too many. If we want to have a battery-chicken kind of world, with everybody having an absolute minimum diet, you might be able to support 10 billion. – Paul R. Ehrlich • I don’t think the problem is telling people you’re on a diet. Some sports such as sprinting are explosive so you need a diet that will give you the energy for that moment. – William Katt • When I’m off the road, and I can really control my diet down to the calorie, I juice seven days a week. Every afternoon, whatever I have at hand, beets, carrots, ginger, whatever. I juice, literally, every single day. And on the road, I try to find fresh juice wherever I can. – Henry Rollins • When it comes to health, diet is the Queen, but exercise is the King. – Jack LaLanne • When some one sorrow, that is yet reparable, gets hold of your mind like a monomania,–when you think, because Heaven has denied you this or that, on which you had set your heart, that all your life must be a blank,–oh, then diet yourself well on biography,–the biography of good and great men. See how little a space one sorrow really makes in life. See scarce a page, perhaps, given to some grief similar to your own, and how triumphantly the life sails on beyond it. – Edward Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton • When travelling, I make a point of eating a proper diet no matter where I am in the world. It is getting much easier to eat a vegetarian or vegan based diet. – Gary Player • When you breast feed your child, that breast milk that nature starts us out on has almost the same percentage of polyunsaturated, monounsaturated and saturated fat as butter. So nature clearly wanted us to have a high fat diet. – Suzanne Somers • When you don’t use sugar in your diet, all of the sudden fruits are really sweet. Honey is really sweet. Your taste buds change. I’m not psycho never have anything sweet, because that takes too much energy. The stress on your body just isn’t worth it. – Laird Hamilton • When you’ve been on a ghetto diet your entire life, you’re just happy to get a large soda instead of a medium. – Chris Rock • whenever I encountered a slide show titled ‘Eight Diet Foods That Pack on the Pounds’ or ‘Celebrity Fashion Fails,’ I’d have to stop and investigate because hey, it might be information I’d need in some unforeseeable future where I had become, for some reason, a fat celebrity. – Merrill Markoe • Whenever you’re looking at new ways to get in shape, first you have to decide what you want. Do you want a more muscular look, or do you want to slim down and appear more toned and ripped? I adapt my training and diet with each role I do, depending on the image I want to convey. – Scott Adkins • While nature thus very early and very abundantly feeds us, she is very late in tutoring us as to the proper methodization of our diet. – Herman Melville • Who has not wished that his host would come out frankly at the beginning of the visit and state, in no uncertain terms, the rulesand preferences of the household in such matters as the breakfast hour? And who has not sounded out his guest to find out what he likes in the regulation of his diet and modus vivendi (mode of living)? – Robert Benchley • Women who are with child should be careful of themselves; they should take exercise and have a nourishing diet. The first of these prescriptions the legislator will easily carry into effect by requiring that they should take a walk daily to some temple, where they can worship the gods who preside over birth. Their minds, however, unlike their bodies, they ought to keep quiet, for the offspring derive their natures from their mothers as plants do from earth. – Aristotle • Yes – I am usually overweight. I have had to be interested in diet because of being diabetic for 30 years and having kidney failure. – Sue Townsend • Yes, cider and tinned salmon are the staple diet of the agricultural classes. – Evelyn Waugh • You can be the most beautiful person on earth, and if you don’t have a fitness or diet routine, you won’t be beautiful. – Martha Stewart • You should make your diet one that best fits you and how you feel. Listen to your body. The most important thing is to exercise, drink lots of water, and take really good care of yourself. – Lea Michele • You take the healthiest diet in the world, if you gave those people vitamins, they would be twice as healthy. So vitamins are valuable. – Robert Atkins • Young people need compassion and guidance, not obscure mysticism. Here are some guidelines for young people: Remember that you are always your own person. Do not surrender your mind, heart, or body to any person. Never compromise your dignity for any reason. Maintain your health with sound diet, hygiene, exercise, and clean living. Don’t engage in drugs or drinking. Money is never more important than your body and mind, but you must work and support yourself. Never depend on others for your livelihood. – Ming-Dao Deng • Young women should begin to build bone mass early in their lives. The more mass there is, the less they will lose in later life. They should enjoy a diet of calcium-rich foods and avoid food and drink that causes bone loss. – Ann Richards • Your worm is your only emperor for diet; we fat all creatures else to fat us, and we fat ourselves for maggots. – William Shakespeare • You’re thinking I’m one of those wise-ass California vegetarians who is going to tell you that eating a few strips of bacon is bad for your health. I’m not. I say its a free country and you should be able to kill yourself at any rate you choose, as long as your cold dead body is not blocking my driveway. – Scott Adams
