whats fun about barry as a protagonist vs other Morally Complicated Guy Shows is that he seriously has no ambition lol, his wildest dreams arent like becoming super rich or relishing in holding power over people, like all he wants is simple happiness, maybe career success, normal life stuff, his wildest dreams are like…. being able to have a wedding. having a kid or two. and theres something reasonable about that, it makes him relatable for a while until the show is very clearly like No dude, that is a fucking serial killer, you should not gaf! and you’re like oh right lol. it’s crazy to make such a simple desire seem so malicious but still human
#like the true success of the show is that he feels just as entitled as walter white even though what he wants is so much smaller#L + serial killer + you’re a war criminal + you’re abusive + kys#barry#but i think it threads the line a little where by s5 of brba i had 0 care for walt i did not feel any emotional attachment#and tbh by the end i didnt even find the whole corruption arc interesting because he was just so painfully malignant and annoying#but barry wants sooooo little. and he’s sooooo stupid. and hes soooo arrested development 15 year old boy#that it still manages to be compelling and he still manages to feel like a human being#not a knock on brba which is incredible television obviously just doing different stuff#idk. something about how it’s tragic but also held at an appropriate distance so as to be laughed at too#like: the irremovable mark doing violence leaves on you.. the inescapability of it… IS sad! it’s sad#and most often IS the result of social conditioning and masculinity constructs and your dads friend grooming you etc#but it’s not the prime sadness. which would be of course the victims of that violence#like. duh#walter my reaction is just. Well i wouldnt do that. I would never choose to do that so who cares#but with barry. all he wants is to not be defined by the hurt he has caused. which is something everybody wants!#but the extents of that hurt are so extreme and are teased apart so well in the show. like theres 0 apologia just exploration#anyway if im doing brba comparisons barry is literally todd

No Greater Pleasure
Bully Bakugou x FEM!Reader
Tumblr media
Based off this ask: <BULLY BAKUGOU ASK> This post can be seen as second part to "All of His Attention" Another Bully Bakugou fic of mine just with a time jump after all.
Bakugou Katsuki loves nothing more than to torment you, pick on you and down right degrade you. What he didn't expect was you to hit him back. Unbeknownst to you, it doesnt have the effect you wish it did.
Note: bully bakusquad, bully Bakugou Third years. Perverts. All of them. Just being sleazy creeps. Hinted non-con Voyeurism. Small cannon violence. Bullying. Name calling and swearing. Underlying Midoriya x Reader. Reader discretion is advised.
Bakugou Katsuki was one of the most annoying people you’ve ever met.
And he felt like he had every right to be.
He was handsome, he was strong, gifted with a great quirk, smart and intelligent. His parents were successful, he was a modal, he could buy or get anything he wanted. Which was probably why he always acted like a spoilt brat at every moment or waking turn. He was annoying, that was sure. With a simple grin that made your skin crawl, he felt as though he was king of the world.
Especially in third year. With the Hero Course students now famous for saving Japan multiple times, it was no wonder how they all got famous, especially at U.A. With first years and second years crawling all over them just to get a taste of their lives that had picked up thanks to the Hero Commission. Bakugou loved it. He lived for all the attention and glory. All the people screaming his name during practises and training that could be watched, all the gifts and confessions given to him by poor unsuspecting victims that think he actually care.
None of them do. Or at least none of them in the bakusquad. All the self-entitlement and fame went to their heads and suddenly they became one group you never wanted to come across.
Sero Hanta, resident smoker, druggie and Capital S, sleaze. With a stupid straight toothed grin and laid back expression he would make you fall into a false sense of understanding and security.
Talking about false sense of security, Kirishima Eijiro. Bakugou’s best friend and number one person to never go after. With that kind smile and caring eyes all fell victim to him. He was the worst of them all. Made you feel as though he cared, as though you were special, only to crush your heart in the mot painful and innocent way. I mean, who would believe you? Kirishima would never do that? He’s the most manly and true person ever.
All of them had turned out absolutely horrible in your eyes, but none as bad as Bakugou Katsuki.
Having a new girlfriend, boyfriend, partner, whatever every other day. Other than a quicky or some new attention, Bakugou was never interested in a serious partner, and it showed in the trail of heartbreaks and ruined partners he left behind him. I mean with a smirk like that, crimson eyes that burned into your soul and a voice that he used to pull you in like a siren, it was no wonder that he could get away with so much.
I mean, they’re the hero course.
Bakugou loved all the mayhem he could get away with. If Aizawa wasn’t there, why not have a little fun. Especially if it was tormenting Midoriya’s little group of friends. He never found such pleasure like going back to pick on Midoriya. Although Midoriya had grown a backbone as well as big enough muscle to push back.
But Bakugou knew there was one person. One person in the whole class he found absolutely delicious. One person that he found no greater pleasure in than to torment.
And that was you.
God, did he love to pick on you. Trip you, flip and look up your skirt, pock at, be an absolute disgusting pervert around you. You hated it. And that’s what he lusted over. The anger in your eyes, the hate and rage brewing underneath the surface. You never wanted to stoop to his level, but that’s what made it all so fun. How he could technically do anything he wanted to you and you wouldn’t do a damn thing.
He got off to it. It made him chub in his pants just to see you squirm as he sneered down at you, throwing another degrading comment at you.
Until one day...
“You really fucked up that mission, Y/N.” Bakugou walked over to you, putting his hands on your desk as he looked down at you. His eyeliner making his vermillion eyes only hone onto you more and seem more predatory. “People could have gotten seriously hurt if Kirishima and I weren’t there in time.” He looked over to his redheaded best friend. The giant redhead leaned back against his chair as he watched wordlessly wanting to see how this would go.
You swallowed down any harsh remark you were going to say. You closed your eyes briefly before looking back up at him.
God did he love when you looked up at him, down below him.
“It was my mistake, Bakugou. I just wasn’t paying attention to that street.” You told him truthfully.
“Clearly.” He scoffed. He leaned down. “But people could die because of you. And that would be on you.” He poked your chest.
You frowned as you brushed his hand away from you. “Don’t touch me, Bakugou.”
His smirk grew, exposing a sharp canine. He licked over his teeth as he looked down at you. “What? Can’t handle the brutal honesty, princess?” He asked as poked you again. “Hm? Can’t handle me being honest with you? Does it bother you Y/N?” He got up close and personal to you, not stopping. You tightened your grip on your desk as you tried your best to ignore him. “Hm? Or maybe you get off to it? Maybe you’re a sick freak, huh?”
Midoriya scowled as he got up to go stop the blond. His green eyes held distaste and murder as he glared at the blond. “Leave them alone, Kacchan.”
Bakugou ignored the green haired nerd as he moved his mouth to your ear. “It’s okay. I like freaks.” He whispered against your ear. “Almost as much as I love the songs you sing in the shower when you think no ones left.”
Immediately, without hesitation, you had a hand wrapped around his neck. Bakugou’s eyes shot wide open as you stood up, your eyes dark with a pressing rage that you had kept down for far too long. He glared as you took a step forward, forcing him back against the desk behind him.
He only looked shocked for a second before he looked at you with half lidded eyes of temptation and lust. He bit his bottom lip as he pressed forward into your hand. “I knew you were kinky Y/N, but God damn. In front of everyone?” He asked making his group of friends chuckle. Kaminari already had his camera rolling on his phone, knowing how much Bakugou loved to rewatch your reactions to him. “I knew you were slut at hea-”
The words were slapped right out of him as his face turned to the side. His cheek stinging at the impact. Immediately the class went silent. Midoriya froze mid stride to you, his green eyes went wide at what you had done. Kirishima stood up instantly, ready to step in if a brawl happened. As much as he wanted to watch, he prioritised his friend first.
You looked at Bakugou with angry tears in your eyes with so much disgust that it was almost too much to contain in just your eyes. “You’re a fucking villain, Bakugou Katsuki.” You shot at him with a glare. He looked back at you, his pupil trained on you without a single reaction. “Initially I thought you could have been a great hero, that you could have been something to look up to, but now I know you’re just a bully and a villain.” You let go of him, wiping your hands on your shirt like you had touched something filthy. You sneered at him with an upturned nose. “You’re disgusting.” You turned and left, walking out of class just as Mr Aizawa walked in.
Midoriya quickly realised that you were leaving and quickly followed you. “Y/N!” He looked to Mr Aizawa who let the green haired hero in training go after you. He raised an eyebrow before looking to Bakugou who stood with a hand to his cheek.
Kirishima walked over to Bakugou, a hand on his shoulder. “Katsuki, you alright? He asked with a raised eyebrow as he turned the blond to talk to him privately. Bakugou was silent for a moment before looking out the classroom door to see Midoriya talking to you, his hands on you as he looked down at you concerned. Kirishima released a low growl as he looked out the classroom. “That fucking bitch. We can get her Katsuki, just-”
Bakugou raised a hand, making Kirishima keep quiet. Bakugou tensed his jaw before looking up at Kirishima. He smirked before looking back out at you. He grinned, already having made up his mind. “Fuck, I want her.”
And Bakugou was sure, that there would be no greater pleasure than to finally have you.

You know one thing I’ve noticed being parroted around a lot are about how ‘sweet’ the strong boys are, just repeating what the protagonist Rhaenrya views her sons as she has stated it within the show herself. (Which is fine as people are entitled to their own opinions). I suppose it doesn’t help with the way the team black boys have been casted, younger actors & an actual teen matching the character’s age, looking all cherub/innocent like with the awkward hairstyles emphasises their youthful ages & the framing by show is heavily in the favour of the blacks.
Compare this to the team green boys Aemond and Aegon (both phenomenal actors perfectly cast to portray them) but considering Aemond is supposed to be a teen what 16 or 19? (the show-runners can’t seem to do basic maths, lol) however, as an audience member subconsciously Aemond is viewed as an adult & treated/judged as such with his actions. Again the negative framing by the show of him in manipulating the GA perceptions of the teams, I’m really surprised they didn’t play a villainous theme tune as like with Darth Vader every time he appeared on screen but I think that would have been a-bit too obvious, lmao. It’s not like the camera framework & Aemond’s get up in black, heavy smirking in the background isn’t already doing so.
Anyways having watched the show, I happen to be believe that they are not these sweet harmless little princes, in particular, Jace hides a much darker personality, imo. For instance, in the courtyard back at Kingslanding with Luke he says “it doesn’t matter what they think” so on the surface you could argue oh how sweet he is trying to comfort his brother but shows his self-entitlement in viewing the other lords/people as beneath them & we know Rhaenrya has told him “you are a Targaryen that’s all that matters” so it has been instilled in him this belief in the Targaryen exceptionalism being closer to gods than men because of their dragons. Also, that line mirrors young Rhaenrya with “their wants are of no consequence” about the small folk again showing self-entitlement & an attitude that would make them poor future leaders.
Jace having this belief instilled in him, I feel it would explain why they all picked on Aemond because whilst Aemond may be a legitimate true-born prince who was undeniably a Targaryen with the Valyrian looks, what didn’t he have? A dragon!! so Jace with his inferiority complex/issues & superiority complex combined, knowing he was a bastard targets/bullies Aemond unfairly for this (for being what he should have been if he was fathered by Laenor) to make Aemond feel bad, inferior & inadequate like him, which they were successful in.
As we saw this made Aemond risk his life attempting to claim a dragon with helaena saying “he did it again” (hinting that Aemond at 10-12 risked himself numerous times) and it was shown twice with his failed attempt with dreamfyre & his successful attempt with vhagar. As Rhaenyra has instilled in him being a Targaryen is the most important BS & the biggest symbolism of this is having a dragon. So, when Aemond finally claims a dragon, Jace is now unable to see or convince himself as better than or being more Targaryen than Aemond.
Hence, his anger when they all jumped him 4v1 beating him & when Aemond was managing to defend himself & calls them for what he is “a bastard” Jace’s rage comes out, not because he thought Aemond was going to kill Luke with a rock as he had lowered his hand holding it. It was Aemond saying “lord strong” which made him pull out the knife & slashing with the intent to kill him. Again Aemond managed to defend himself & the knife dropped on the floor, so obviously Aemond lifts the rock up again to use as a deterrent as there is now also a knife bought in the fight. The strong boys shared a glance & threw sand in his face blinding him & Luke slashed his eye.
We all know what happened after, they didn’t get punished for it, viserys sided with them reaffirming his favouritism & threatening to remove tongues for questioning their legitimacy. Rhaenyra didn’t care to discipline them for it, thus, reaffirming their self-entitlement that they are correct in their behaviours & did nothing wrong.
Another example of Jace self-entitlement, inferiority complex & bullying behaviour was during the toast speech. It was Aegon who pissed him off & some with an optimistic view would argue his toast was trying to bury the hatchet with “fond memories of our youth”, however, he was looking at Aemond with a slight smirk knowing full well it may have been fun for him it was not for Aemond- he was targeting him again when it was Aegon who bothered him & Aemond was minding his own business. The reason for this? Because he is comfortable to be looking down/belittling/bullying Aemond.
Again, with the dance with helaena, some would argue how chivalrous of Jace for feeling sorry for Heleana being alone but it was to piss off both Aegon & Aemond. Moving on, with the speech & then Luke laughing at the pig, Aemond loses his temper, rightly so. As all he was trying to do during the dinner was ignore them, both Jace & Luke have triggered him with the past, so he gives the infamous strong speech, to push back & give them a taste of their own medicine.
Jace is the one who then loses his temper & his first typical reaction when he does?? is to be physically violent & throws the first punch & which side does he purposely target?? Aemond’s blind/injured & vulnerable side of his face. The punch was laughable, Aemond didn’t even spill his drink & with one push was thrown down. Exactly like his younger behaviour showing no growth, he get back up & during this altercation, Luke had tried to join to gang up on Aemond again. So both brothers are unable to take the heat that they dish out & fight fairly 1 to 1, but, really what could’ve Luke have really done, lmao.
They should of known when they saw Aemond earlier that day in the courtyard training. At the time, it’s clear both strong boys didn’t know it was him (with the typical targaryen blonde hair they maybe could of mistaken him for Aegon) & were super impressed with his prowess/skill, before he turned around with the eyepatch & their faces said it all, like ‘oh shit’ & then soured that the person who they perceived weaker/beneath them during childhood is a skilled swordsman, unlike them. Another thing that Aemond has/is that the strong boys don’t to add to Jace’s list, alongside having both of a mix of a inferiority complex & superiority complex, a ‘sweet prince’ he is not.

this is gonna be SO long and rambly sorry anyway i saw a post abt how babel does queer characters and it got me thinking abt why the tropes it uses would usually turn me off other stories but didn’t here
MAJOR BABEL SPOILERS //
i feel like i’d be more mad abt how robinramy ended up in babel if it marketed itself as queer lit at all or if its fans were going “WOW AMAZING QUEER REP” abt it. but no one told me any of that, so finding out they were gay was just a fun little bonus surprise to me. i get why ppl are eh abt robinramy not getting together/technically still being subtext (which i dont think is really true btw like the book literally says “robin was falling in love” but idk i guess if you were stupid you might’ve assumed that it was falling in love with oxford given how romantic some of the other language is (WHICH IS ALSO THE POINT bc i think robin’s friendship with ramy blurring into romance is why he romanticised like all his friendships/experiences in oxford BUT IM GETTING OFF-TOPIC)). i just think robin’s repression abt being gay was intrinsically tied to his attitudes on imperialism (wrt refusing to acknowledge anything that complicated his life until it was too late) and i don’t consider it a cop out or queerbait. like i genuinely don’t think robinramy could ever have gotten together without drastic alterations being made in terms of plot and character. plus i think it’s clear that kuang didn’t want to write a story with any kind of focus on romance at all, because it’s not that kind of book. there’s no successful het romance either, so it grates a lot less. the only reason romance is included at all is to show the ways in which white entitlement manifests. so the tragic way robinramy played out just made sense to me.
and i speak as someone who accidentally spoiled myself on You Know What in the middle of reading and i was like ugghh boooo dreading it the whole time expecting to roll my eyes when it happened but then when it did i was like. wow im actually not that mad LMFAO 😭😭😭 actually thematically the book sets it up so well that i believed that this was unfortunately the only way it could’ve gone. babel is about the loss and tragedy and grief that colonised people experience. it’s about the lengths people will go to to uphold empire and the lengths ppl will go to to tear it down like idk 😭 i guess it is bury your gays but it didnt bother me this time because i thought it fit thematically ❤️ i enjoy tragedy as a genre a lot and i would’ve made it gay anyway you know. thanks rf kuang for doing it for me so i didnt have to.
WHICH IS ALL TO SAY that i guess if you’re going into babel for the queer rep without appreciating that the story is fundamentally a tragedy it would feel like it’s just reusing tired tropes….. but i think the choices kuang made were rly deliberate and not in a way that feels like trauma porn or shock value. the book is fundamentally about the struggles of poc so the layer of queerness that was introduced felt like a subtle extension of the experiences of characters of colour in the book, and i enjoyed and related to it as a queer chinese person who kind of realised they had to prioritise their fight for the liberation of poc over queerness mainly because the idea of western queer liberation cannot be dissociated from imperialism and many aspects of homophobia as we know it was an export of christian european empire into our colonised countries in the first place and FUCK THIS IS A WHOLE OTHER TANGENT ABOUT HOW I THINK RAMY AS A CHARACTER IS EMBLEMATIC OF THE TENSION AND STRUGGLE THAT QUEER POC DIASPORA HAVE BETWEEN OUR IDENTITIES GODDAMNIT OK FORGET IT POST CANCELLED i just rly think babel’s handling of queer characters is fine and makes sense and i like it personally and maybe i will make a coherent analysis about it one day but that day is not today byeeeeeee

Alastor Has NPD Because I Said So: A Shitty Analysis
Grandiose sense of self-importance. Overestimating their capabilities or holding themselves to unreasonably high standards. Bragging or exaggerating their achievements.
It's pretty clear he thinks highly of himself. I like to think that not only does he love radio, but, being The Radio Demon, he believes himself to be heavily associated with it as if it's part of him. So when he gloats about radio being a superior medium of self expression, he's speaking about himself as well.
Tumblr media
He was gone for seven years, and it's pretty blatant that he expects everyone else to care about that. Even if he would most certainly not give a true answer had he been acknowledged, he's desperate for that "where have you been" attention, and gets pissed when it's not received. He just naturally assumes he's important enough that other overlords would be concerned about his absence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Assuming his smile is something he chooses to do (ignoring the stitch mark theories), it's a very visible high standard he holds himself to, and according to Viv, it's something he judges others for as well. Even alone, he refuses to drop his smile.
Frequent fantasies about having or deserving success
The finale song showcases this well, as he outright states that he wants power/control, to be "holding all the strings"
Tumblr media
Belief in superiority. Thinking they’re special or unique. Believing they should associate only with those they see as worthy.
This goes pretty hand in hand with what I wrote in point one tbh. It seems evident that he's picky about who he's friends with as well, for example he only associates with Charlie for power.
Tumblr media
Need for admiration. Fragile self-esteem. Frequent self-doubt, self-criticism or emptiness. Preoccupation with knowing what others think of them. Fishing for compliments.
This is more of an internal thing, which can be hard to see in a character that hides his emotions so heavily. But you can see hints of it in his reaction when his commercial is criticized, he's proud and asks for feedback, and immediately reacts negatively and gets defensive upon criticism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He had a breakdown over the thought of his image being tainted for saving his 'friends', he's less worried about his actual injury and rather the humiliation of being defeated over something so uncharacteristic of him.
Tumblr media
Entitlement. Inflated sense of self-worth. Expecting favorable treatment (to an unreasonable degree). Anger when people don’t cater to or appease them.
The first point is basically what I already spoke about, I don't think he really expects favorable treatment (perhaps internally, but he doesn't demand it)
That last point can be showcased with how he reacts to Lucifer, who didn't acknowledge him at all and criticized his work. He was obviously pretty openly pissed when Lucifer wasn't sucking up to him and his work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Willingness to exploit others. Consciously or unconsciously using others. Forming friendships or relationships with people who boost their self-esteem or status. Deliberately taking advantage of others for selfish reasons.
Do I need to say more than Charlie :/ and also like everyone ever that he interacts with 😭
Tumblr media
Lack of empathy. Saying things that might hurt others. Seeing the feelings, needs or desires of others as a sign of weakness. Not returning kindness or interest that others show.
Yeah I don't think the guy who hurts people for a living cares too much about hurting others-
And of course back to the smile thing, he sees anyone who doesn't mask as heavily he does as weak, he looks down on those who display their emotions so openly.
Frequent envy. Feeling envious of others, especially when others are successful. Expecting envy from others. Belittling or diminishing the achievements of others.
I don't actually see too much of this symptom in him, though I think it's more of an internal thing for the most part.
Arrogance. Patronizing behavior. Behaving in a way that’s snobby or disdainful. Talking down or acting condescendingly.
He seems to act most condescendingly around Vaggie, especially in the pilot, he's downright disrespectful. His interactions with Charlie upon trying to cheer her up comes off as very patronizing too.

Why do you say Ted is worse than Ross
Because he is - and I say this as someone whose least favorite character of the main six in Friends is Ross because the dude can piss me off A LOT.
Ross is selfish, whinny, spoiled, obsessive and immature like Ted. But the writers of Friends were far more self-aware than the writers of How I Met Your Mother - mainly because they were not using Ross as a self-insert, and would not use Twitter to say shit like "If you ship Rachel with Joey instead of with Ross, you're the reason people like Trump get elected and destroy nations." No, I am not kidding, that actually happened.
Ted CONSTANTLY acts like a creep and the show treats it as fully romantic, and if a woman (mainly Robin) is turned off by it, the show tries to spin it as "She's afraid of commitment" or some bullshit. When Ross is getting possessive over Rachel the show actually allows her to call him out and she doesn't always run straight to his arms - not to mention, she can act just as unreasonable and entitled, meanwhile the most Robin does is say "Maybe, someday, if we're both single and miserable and no one else wants either of us, I'd consider marrying you."
Even Ross's most absurd moments get a bit more of pass because they're (usually) meant to:
1 - Show that the character is flawed (Him constantly getting paranoid that Rachel is gonna cheat on him with her co-worker is meant to show he's insecure, jealous, possessive AND doesn't listen when she repeatedly says she loves HIM, not this other dude - though the writers do still want the audience to root for him and Rachel to find a way to make it work)
2 - Make a joke about how he's kind of insane (see him not telling Rachel they're still married because he can't have another failed marriage - a situation in which NO ONE in the cast makes excuse for him, and we even have Chandler rightfully saying "At point did you think this was a successful marriage?")
Meanwhile the writers of HIMYM did things like:
1 - Say Ted breaking up with a girl on her birthday, through an answering machine that all the guests in her surprise party heard before she did, finding her years later, winning her back, then breaking up with her on her birthday AGAIN is totally just what was meant to be because "Well, she found true love later"
2 - Have him use "It was past 2am" as an excuse to cheat on his girlfriend/lie to Robin about being single to sleep with her.
3 - Make him have an emotional affair with a married woman that then left her husband (who thought of Ted as friend) for him, accept getting back together with his ex that was engaged and then left the groom at the altar, and make a move on his ex that was engaged to one of his best friends on the weekend on their wedding.
4 - HAVE TED TELL HIS KIDS HE WANTS TO TELL A STORY ABOUT HOW HE MET THEIR DEAD MOTHER, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY ABOUT HOW HE ALWAYS LOVED A DIFFERENT WOMAN THAT HE WAS STILL OBSESSED WITH AFTER 25 YEARS.
Not to mention, even the stuff in Friends that genuinely did not age well at all and that the writers weren't self-aware about in any way have a bigger excuse than the stuff HIMYM did because Friends started in 1994 and ended in 2004, yet HIMYM was on the same level, if not worse, and it started in 2005 and ended in 2014. There's a reason audiences tolerated Ross's shenanigans way more than they tolerated Ted's - Friends was a product of it's times, HIMYM felt behind it's time. Ross feels like a typical character you'd see in the 90's, Ted feels like the hero of every "Nice Guy" that is actually not nice at all.
Plus, Ross had much better chemistry with Rachel than Ted ever did with Robin (or literally any love interest except the Mother) and the series made sure to never give us an alternative pairing that was much better than the planned one like HIMYM did with Barney and Robin (and I say this as someone that ships Joey and Rachel). And while Josh Radnor made the rare good scene of Ted feel great, David Schiwimmer, and the entire cast of Friends really, made mediocre or downright bad scenes enjoyable or at least tolerable. The only one in the HIMYM cast with the same talent was Neil, who was playing the character that we were not supposed to actually want to see get the girl, which just made it even easier for audiences to root for Barney, not Ted.
It's just a perfect storm of different factors that makes a character like Ross getting a happy ending after all the shit he pulled MUCH easier to accept than when that happens to a Ted type, hence the finale of Friends still being incredibly beloved by nearly everyone, while HIMYM's ending was absolutely hated to the point that it shelved the planned spin off and put the showrunner's careers in limbo for nearly a decade.

I love all your succession thoughts in your tags haha. Connor self-correcting about Logan not even liking him because it upset Kendall and Shiv 😭 him comforting all three even though he got left out, again (but didn’t complain). so Big Brother, and I especially love how different Kendall is as the eldest to Roman and Shiv versus as Connor’s little brother. so good and so sad ):
Ahah, thank you, anon! And yes! God, I could talk about Big Brother Connor all day because I love everything about him, not just in terms of his character, but what he means for the story. The show would be worse off without him, not just because Connor's an interesting character and Alan Ruck's wonderful in the role, but because Connor plays as such a neat, narrative shorthand to immediately undermine Kendall's entitlement when it comes to being the clear heir, and the trickle down effect that has on all the dynamics in the show is just so good. It'd be a really, really different show without him.
More to your point though, I really do love Connor's dynamics with all three of his siblings, and I know everyone particularly loves Connor's dynamic with Roman at the moment (which, gosh, I do too!) but I do think I find Connor and Kendall's a more interesting one overall.
All the dynamics are different, but Connor's and Kendall's just marks such a shift in terms of both their places within the family unit. Roman's always the youngest son, Shiv's always the youngest and only daughter, but Connor and Kendall both feel as though they are the eldest son and something else too. There's a version of Connor that's an only child - he has a different mother, he's so much older, he's an outsider more than he is an insider with his little half siblings, and there's a version of Kendall that's a middle child, a little brother; even once, for a few years before Roman and Shiv were born, a youngest son.
In so many ways, Kendall's birth is symbolic for Connor in a way that Roman and Shiv's aren't. It was the end of a period in his life (fifteen years, as Alan Ruck has said), where he was an only child, and the beginning of him having a family beyond his parents. An imperfect one, sure, and I imagine all three of the Golden Trio were absolute nightmares as kids, haha, but I think Connor loves them deeply and in some ways I think they probably saved him. From what the show's peppered in, I can't even fathom what his life would've been like if it had just been him, Logan and his mother, and honestly, it's hard to imagine what Kendall, Roman and Shiv's lives would've been like without Connor too. From childhood camping trips to him being there to walk Shiv down the aisle before Logan decided to show up, Connor's role in their lives is irreplacable and, yeah, taken for granted.
But of course, there is this strain there when it comes to Kendall being so regarded as heir apparent for so long, and I do think it complicates Connor's relationship with Kendall a bit. I think it's easier with Roman - they're the cast offs together, y'know? - and with Shiv too - her gender disadvantages her even more than Connor's mother disadvantages him - but I also don't necessarily think it complicates it as much as either of them think it should. After all, Kendall's not a clear cut golden child, he's not a perfect image of or for their father, and for every time he's an overconfident, brown-nosing, entitled little prince, he's also an anxious stammering, insecure, submissive little boy with addiction issues, and while Connor can chafe and roll his eyes at the former, he seems to be pretty soft and protective when it comes to the latter.
And I think on the flipside, Connor's presence as the eldest son does feel undermining to Kendall. He really clearly tries to position himself as the oldest and the heir, not just in the business, but in the family, and the fact that it's not technically true I think is this kind of awesome character note that underscores all the ways Kendall performs as something he's not. He's not a killer, he's not the eldest, he's not the heir, he's nobody and he's nothing, and it eats him up, and kind of interestingly, I think Connor's the only person Kendall doesn't seem to perform for. He performs for Roman and Shiv all the time, but when it's just him and Connor, they tend to just be Kendall and Connor, warts and all, and I think that's indicative of a safety a little sibling often only finds in an older sibling, especially one who gives as much as Connor gives to them.

I feel like Harry never lost sight of where he was coming from and that all those opportunities weren’t there to take for granted. He’s always shown gratitude and seemed deeply aware of the fact that in the end of the day the band’s success was an unbelievable amount of luck. Unlike the others, Harry knew he would have to prove himself in order to make clear he deserves to be here.
The other boys lost sight of that. Louis in particular grew into this insanely entitled immature uneducated himbo who believes he deserves the world by literally just existing. He never was in a place where he had to work his ass off. He always was in the comfortable place where he could rely on others aka Harry and 1D‘s producers and lean back watching others put in the work not needing to worry about his career. And Louis still navigates life like that. It was similar with everybody in the band but Harry.
Harry was the only one that didn’t have anybody to rely on. Vocals were on him. Song writing was on him. Stage presence was on him. Entertainment was on him. Appealing to the female gaze was on him. Fan service was on him since he reasonably was the favorite and had peoples expectations on him. He carried that band on his back and the other boys relied on that and it shows in all their solo careers now. Zayn doesn’t know how to perform, Louis doesn’t know how to sing (or to do anything). Liam doesn’t know how to write songs. Niall doesn’t know how to be interesting. And all that despite having been part of the biggest band in the world. And it’s because Harry had to take over the other boy’s work too since they weren’t talented enough to show off themselves.
I think Harry’s work ethic was significantly shaped and formed during 1D and that’s why now he takes his own career so seriously and actually puts his own effort into it. He was forced to teach himself everything and he was interested in learning from others. The amount of pressure he was under in the band was probably insane. Imagine being forced to work with 4 untalented entitled idiots who all think they are the shit but refuse to actually work. And not only that but also having to share your work with them. No wonder he stopped giving every single songs of his to the band and kept it to himself. He knows how precious his art is. I think Harry has always been the only true artist among 1D.
100%! 👏👏👏👏

bein' completely honest here i have considered npd shu be4 soooo often cause the. the shoe fits (laugh please), i feel like his past & family environment cld really serve as a push, in the end cluster Bs r all jus' sets of survival & coping tactics ya adopt into yr personality as a result of unjust treatment & trauma <- this is true
nawt 2 armchair diagnose him but like we shall go over sum npd traits. cause we kno here it ain't jus' high self esteem (when the opposite is usually evident)
↓↓↓
intentionally or nawt i feel like exvalk shu especially fits the npd mold like dat was his entire character conflict /lh (i miss him)
> a grandiose sense of self-importance
need i say anythin'. listen 2 like the first shu voiceline in ! it was literally 'i am the emperor of ymnsk academy'. .. doesn't he also go as far as 2 declare himself the god of this world? like ''kono sekai no kami da' i remember dat. oh & how much stronger & imposin' his timbre was compared 2 how much softer his voice is rn. he was very much self-focused even though it manifested thru valkyrie, he was distinctly treatin' the unit as his creation & his own creation only. the focus on the self is very real
> a preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
i feel like if ya know shu ya will nod away at every single one of these cause. pre-fall valk <- dat wasn' even a fantasy, i feel like he was really narc-thrivin' back then cause it was the reality, they WERE on top. (srry if ya came here 4 thorough analysis i don' do that round here i jus' show ya smth & we both nod solemnly) success, power, brilliance, beauty, even ideal love (shnz wink?) - exvalk shu is both a perfectionist & a maximalist i think he craved it all, an' even when he has achieved great success he jus' can't get enuff, leadin' him 2 get overconfident 2 the point where he was /dat/ oblivious 2 his own (& valkyrie's, but at dat time he saw valkyrie as himself only, & the rest as just an extension, a tool) imminent demise practically laid out in front of him.
> a belief that he or she is special and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people or institutions
this guy?
Tumblr media
the guy who calls the general public philistines & views ppl who don' adhere 2 the same high standards he holds 4 himself imbeciles?
> a need for excessive admiration
the 'go on, praise me more!' guy? it might seem at first like he'd b too prideful 2 outright ask 4 external validation but if ya really look a bit into it, he's very reliant on it.. i think it gets amplified by bein' an idol too, bein' very self conscious of yr image. ofc mr oshisan wld find himself in a field where the entire point is 2 b the center of attention & appraisal.
> a sense of entitlement
i think this jus' circles back 2 every other point i made...!!!! exvalk shu is control & acknowledgment hungry. he wants 2 step on n crush the skulls of every1 who is unworthy & soar thru the skies on the mechanical wings of valkyrie.. or wtv. he is intensely focused on his goal 2 the point of tunnel vision cause he fully believes himself 2 deserve the throne. no1 else can b above him. he despises 'commoners' & those below him yet who brought him all the recognition & glory? wats the expression? rest on yr laurels? dunno if 'm usin' it correctly!!!
i also hope i don' come off as dramatisin' too much. like ik marionette is literally jus' one story but i feel it dat much stronger, i guess. 4 (introject) reasons. i hope these things don' read as a huge stretch.
> interpersonally exploitive behavior
Tumblr media
> a lack of empathy
Tumblr media
> envy of others or a belief that others are envious of him or her
gettin' lazy. i feel like this cld jus' b self explanatory... i don' wanna go in depth into every single one 4 shu, esp cuz. ya don' need every single criteria 2 match. 4 a diagnosis. but if ya have any specific moments 4 this one feel free 2 add on 👍🏼
> a demonstration of arrogant and haughty behaviors or attitudes

This is sorta WB related but not really. For the people who don’t agree that Rhaenyra would have an affair:
It does make sense to me that Rhaenyra would have an affair regardless of the consequences for the following reasons.
1) Unless she chose the man she married and was genuinely in love with him, she wouldn’t feel she has to honor a match made against her will. The man would probably just be seen, in her mind at least, as a means to an end to provide her heirs to strengthen her claim.
2) Due to Daemon’s “we are the blood of the dragon” bs and her overall privileged childhood, she would probably feel entitled to go ahead doing whatever she wanted. Due to the protection her father’s favoritism grants her, she would probably feel safe enough to believe she wouldn’t face any consequences.
* Also as a side note about Viserys, I truly believe that deep down in the show and probably in WB he knows that there is some truth to the rumors. However it doesn’t matter to him who the father of the children is. What matters to him is that they are the grandchildren of his dearly departed Aemma and the fact that Aemma’s bloodline will succeed the throne matters to him more than anything else (partly as a result of his guilt)
3) She believes her position to the throne is her birthright. To her, the line of succession will stem from her father and then to her and then to her firstborn child. So she most likely believes that any child she births, regardless of who their father is, would be just as eligible for the throne through her claim. If Jacaerys was Harwin’s bastard and Lucerys’s was actually Laenor’s son, I believe she would still push Jacaerys as her heir to the throne as he was her firstborn son. The line flows through her.
4) For this part, I’m specifically referencing the show. Rhaenyra saw redhead, big brown eyed Alicent pop out platinum blonde babies for years. She probably thought that, like her father and her half siblings, her children would inherit her Valryian features. However when they didn’t, she had a plan to fall back on. 1) Laenor played the part of a proud papa and 2) She could claim that her children’s looks were a result of her husband’s mother’s Baratheon looks. The same is essentially true of WB. Celia takes after her mother but Aemond is clearly his father’s son and even Daemon’s bastard daughter fits into the traditional Targaryen look (even though we have no clue who her mother is or what her mother’s background was). Rhaenyra probably thought that her kids would inherit her looks and she has a plan to fall back on as Harwin’s looks conveniently align with the traditional Baratheon look.
Yeeeeeep
You’ll see more of her POV when the time comes.

I mean if we’re talking about the absolute final form of OoT Ganondorf, it’s 100% Twilight Princess. Wind Waker comes from a Hyrule that got flooded after escaping the sacred realm for an unspecified period of time, thus the pathos, and in the classic games he’s degraded into a mad boar. Meanwhile Twilight Princess Ganondorf is just leaving off from where he started back in OoT before he got snitched on, but now he’s older, a lot more cautious when planning, and 10x more insane than before thanks to god complex and rage.
I mean to be honest I feel like this is up to interpretation on what one considers a fitting final ending for Ganondorf.
I think we can all agree that canonically, Ganondorf has an inherent desire for power and the ability to do whatever he wishes without repercussions. This is excaberated in OoT by the fact that he is born a king. Couple that with the circumstances of his upbringing in a land that is suffering under harsh weather conditions and having lost a civil war, and you have a man who is primed to become a conqueror. We can say that his true desire has always been power, sure, but we also can’t dismiss that the desire for a life that comes easy and the desire to not be subjugated under a greater power that can turn on him at the drop of hat are also what drives Ganondorf and his entitlement.
In the Wind Waker timeline, OoT Ganondorf achieves partial success in regards to his initial plan, which was to secure the Triforce in it’s entirety and become king. He does get to live out his desire of being the king of a powerful country, but he is so maddened by the desire of having the Triforce in its entirety and subjugating the gods to his wishes that he doesn’t even get to truly experience it. Instead, he destroys the land he desired so much, and in his blindness to power he is defeated and sealed away. When he returns, there is no hero to stop him, and thus he continues his rampage, his destruction so severe that the gods flood Hyrule and seal it away, keeping it out of his reach. It is only then, when Hyrule is inaccessible to him, that he finally seems to settle down and remember why he even wanted to become the king of Hyrule in the first place. Perhaps, in seeing how the gods destroyed their own land and people he sees a reflection of himself, having destroyed everything that mattered to him when touched by divine might. Yet he cannot help himself, angry that the gods would still deny him what he wishes, yearning to restore the land that would promise him everything his heart would desire, and still willing to destroy anything that stands in his way because maybe, to him, this is his only path forward. In the final battle, witnessing the King of Hyrule make his wish just as the Triforce was right within his reach, faced by a hero that was plucked from a random island, so similar to the previous hero plucked out of a remote forest, he laughs because maybe he finally understands now; no matter what he does, this his destiny, to be forever touched and ravaged by the winds of destruction. I am certain he knew he would die to Link’s blade that day but he is not a man to go down quietly. SO, I would consider Wind Waker, in my opinion, to be a fitting character arc for Ganondorf as it pertains to his humanity. In a sane state of mind (well, as sane as he can get), he is faced with the hubris of his actions, the loss of everything that mattered to him, and nothing to show for it. It is also interesting that he never returns again to this timeline.
For Twilight Princess, I do agree that in one sense it is OoT Ganondorf continuing what he never managed to start. However, I do feel like the Twilight Princess timeline is a bit of a foil to what the Wind Waker timeline represents in that the Twilight Princess timeline explores the sins of Hyrule and its hubris in its questionable attempts to eliminate darkness. While Ganondorf is not a good man per say, there is a certain evil to condemning and executing a man who has not committed the crime he is being put to the sword for. The gods seem to agree with this as they grant him the Triforce of Power at a crucial moment, allowing him to eliminate a sage. I wouldn’t say TP Ganondorf is any more cautious than his other appearances, he seems just as cunning and patient, but his desires have grown a lot more twisted. In his anger at being executed and imprisoned by the powers of light, bearing the wound permanently and wielding the sword he despises so greatly, he reveals to Link in the final battle that his true desire is to blot out the light forever. Being granted godlike powers in the throes of death and hatred has allowed him to develop a god complex such that his desires no longer seem human (such as the desire for a better life, or to conquer a country that is rich in resources). Ganondorf dies on his feet in defiance, confident that this struggle between light and darkness will continue forever. And well, what do you know, he is reincarnated in this timeline in Four Sword Adventures. So, this Ganondorf in this timeline embraces his darkness and hatred in death, and is perhaps moreso a cautionary tale to Hyrule that its sins cannot be buried and forgotten, and that it will create people like Ganondorf if it chooses to exercise its powers without restraint or consideration.
The downfall timeline is an interesting one, (primarily because it is the timeline where whatever game that came out before OoT finds itself, barring the Oracle games and AlbW by virtue of being an AlttP) because in this timeline the implication is that Ganondorf’s initial plan succeeds and he immediately has access to the entire Triforce. Hyrule barely manages to imprison him and his followers in the Sacred Realm but he creates a world of his own there and immediately begins plotting his takeover of Hyrule which he does in a cunning way. Ganondorf is overly confident in his power here with Hyrule’s royal army under his thumb until Link kills him. What follows after is at least three botched resurrections, one in which he is mindless and incapable of even forming a proper sentence, another where he ends up being controlled by someone else, and yet another in which he loses his grip on the entirety of the Triforce, only left with Power in a land so desolate its people live in caves. So, absolute power corrupts absolutely you can say.
So! We have a timeline where Ganondorf is faced with the consequences of his own actions, a timeline where Ganondorf’s rage at what was an injustice ends in a promise that darkness will always return to shed blood, and a timeline where Ganondorf gets all the power he wants that leads to degradation and corruption as he slowly loses any control he has, even over himself. We have a whole array of fitting endings for him if you ask me.

The one below is a personal and bloody destruction of antis, all those aimed to my precious Marius. So I warn you we are talking canon, things written in books, and not of nonsense spawned by minds who feel entitled to twist or bend facts to their liking with absurd theories, or with things invented altogether. I feel to invite those who have been carried away by these people or who have not read the books to do so, don't listen to anyone, don't even read underneath. Read the books and form your own opinion, don't go around reporting the crap that others have told you, believing it blindly. Please don't listen to anyone. Learn what is a historical context, what is canon, what is respect for a character, staying true to who he is, without stripping him or bending them, without turning them into something they are not, to those guidelines that those who have created them decided for them, and to what the author decided for them. And another thing; these are 'dark' books, they are books that do not go along with those who divide the world into black and white and black, they do not get along with puritanism, they do not get along with those who think that modernity can be applied to a historical context of a hundred or more years ago. Not venture in there with your current worldview. It makes no sense, and you are not doing it justice. These are books with strong historical context, and it takes a strong stomach and an open heart, and understand that as immortals they are infinitely different from us but also extremely equal. They are monsters, that is not to say they are not empathetic or capable of love, but it is not a honeyed love that they give. If you are looking for the honeyed love story and the "I love you more" that's the door. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. There is always a darkness in their love, no matter how strong or delicate it is.
Tumblr media
So, the introduction was too long, if you are reading here, I hope it is because like me you have a deep love for Marius de Romanus. I don't like to make posts that don't have positive notes, I prefer to give love to a character, and share it with those who love him as I do. That said, all of this was generated, by the words I came across, which deeply disgusted me and made me reflect on the fact, that often, antis live in their own world, that they invent things that do not exist, that they spread this crap around, attacking those who think differently to them, acting like knights on white steeds, as if they had to convert the world to their vision. And tell me if that alone is not disturbing enough. Those who are strong and have already fought for their ideas, can understand how easy it is for those who, being younger or 'weaker', fall victims of these prissy bigots. And believe all their crap, and hate a character just because someone has educated them, with false facts that never existed in the canon or in books. Or even submit, because they are afraid of being marginalised by fandom, and so instead of follow their own thoughts they become bearers of those of others. Anyway, the point is that I read a funny humorist talk about how Marius has been molesting children for centuries. And my jaw dropped, because some shit I just can't take. So aside from the fact that Marius was alone for, like, 700 years and even took time for several naps, there is no such thing in canon or in any of the books. And for moreover it shows how they can't even read or haven't read at all. Why? Well because Armand in TVA is very clear about this, he says it very clearly, I was not jealous because only I was allowed in my master's rooms. None of the other boys had ever set foot in there. EVER. Anything else? Gladly. In TVA Armand explains how the boys who had once been educated at Marius' palace, and then had left the place, having learnt a trade, and ventured out into the world becoming successful men, TURNED BACK TO THANK MARIUS. Oh yes, they were going back to their old master to thank him for bringing them up and educating them, for giving them a chance, and for allowing them to fulfil themselves as men. Do you perhaps think they would have returned to thank an abuser? I don't think so.Marius was a patron, a wealthy artist who allowed otherwise abandoned boys to have a future. And why would the boys have been happy and content? Why would they have loved the master who was raising them? Why would they see him as a father to be looked up to with admiration and devotion? Simple. Because Marius was all that to them, AND THAT'S IT. He didn't molest a fucking soul, he was ALONE for practically most of his immortality. Stop spewing bullshit, stop imposing yourself on others, stop besmirching a character because it doesn't fit in with your dick puritanism. Marius has never done anything like that, I don't know what books you have read, but in my opinion you haven't read them at all. And it's not that, I don't care if you hate Marius, feel free, but inventing things out of thin air and passing them off as true, to get people to see it the way you do, NO, I'm not into that. Oh and one more thing before you attack with Armand's rant, CONTEXT HISTORIC, this mythical, graceful creature…. What am I telling you for? So much to you that is a mythological creature.

very long text of me talking about tooticky idk if this is an "analysis" or whatever. just rambling about trying to grasp her truest canon self vs 1990/2019 adaptations vs my daydreams + i used a filter for proper capitalization and punctuation so it's more readable. i am sleep deprived and in love with her so i don't know if it makes sense
Ok, first of all, it feels weird to analyze this as 'I wish that' or 'I would like' because the basis of it all is a woman's children's books in the fifties, where a lot of the inspiration was personal stuff (and she went on for the first two books despite almost no success). It's not like modern-day media that clearly caters to online fandoms—so I don't know how to word stuff like 'I wish Tooticky had more protagonism' in the sense of where do I exactly wish she did? If I'm talking about a remake, it's important to stay true to the author's legacy. I don't feel entitled to make such statements. I think Tooticky and Ninny are so interesting they could take the role of Snufkin and Moomin respectively, but they did not show up that much in the books, so an adaptation like that would be unfaithful and pandering (to me specifically).
I could choose to word it instead like 'I wish I saw more Tooticky in fandom,' but here, I also think it's wrong to tell people what to do when it comes to free art and fics they post on the internet. People should have fun with whatever they like, even if it's already popular or out-of-character (OOC-ness can be subjective when it comes to nebulous characters anyway).
So, I mostly just make my stuff quietly and leave it there. But I finally watched S1 of MV2019—and I can tell people might get more 'demanding' with this show because they're obviously already taking some freedoms despite the clear intent of staying faithful to (mainly) the books, but adapted to the episodic nature of 20 minutes each. I would say they openly choose to give Snufkin more protagonism than he actually has in the book and deliberate choices. So, this makes me look at Tooticky, and I sniff audibly like 'Damn, this could've been you.'
They also gave him more feelings, tbf I see why because he wails when the sea is gone in 'Comet in Moominland' (first example that comes to mind), and I think the '90s is a bit on the other extreme like he's TOO chill in 'Tanoshii Mūmin Ikka.' I would say the books are a middle point between 1990 and 2019. And I can also see the basis of why this character could be gay. Like, let's be serious for a moment, we need to admit this is a fandom conception, but it has some basis given the author's life—HOWEVER, I think Tooticky is more blatantly gay than he is. Not just the butch part, but mainly based on who she's openly modeled after. I don't think it matters she doesn't have a girlfriend or anyone she's very close to in canon. She's still an icon.
Now let's move to her personality. I think Tooticky's character is a bit nebulous like Snufkin (who I keep bringing up because it's the non-winter counterpart); like we don't really truly know what they do when they travel, that contradiction between being social and warm but a loner and distant, and that (at least, sticking to books) we don't know how deep their emotions can go. And I can't make this up as a fan, at best I can label it as a 'headcanon.' Seeing how Tooticky has been adapted in 1990 and 2019, I realize they make her very sweet. Tooticky is normally described as uncompromising and deadpan so if they tried they kind of failed. The mysterious and weird vibe is a bit gone. Snufkin is allowed coolness in 1990 and emotional depth in 2019. I wonder why this choice for Tooticky then; because she's an older woman, she must be mother-figure-like? Tove was not going for this at all. Fandom interpretations add her more 'coolness,' though I think this coolness is inspired by the comic strips.
I WILL FORGIVE HER SWEETNESS AND WARMTH BECAUSE THIS IS SO FREAKING CUTE, though my thoughts in ep13 were "Moomin does not deserve her", Ninny deserves her more, but that is beyond the point of whether it's IC of Tooticky to act like this or not
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite what I said about her not being overly sweet or motherly, I think her presence is comforting by itself. In 'Moominland Midwinter,' I think Moomin is really 'going through it'. The whole book felt like, to me, a metaphor about growing up (I say this as the characters are no longer referred as children it appears), or Tove's losses she was going through by the time she wrote it, or what causes depression. Which is reflected in that desolate landscape, no one familiar like Moomin's parents or Snorkmaiden being awake, nor his friends Sniff or Snufkin being present. Just edgy Little My, and Tooticky.
I can understand why Moomin doesn't show any kind of appreciation or affection to Tooticky; he has a very heavy heart at that moment. However, it makes me a bit sad no one truly seems in-canon appreciative of Tooticky despite how... epic she is. I guess because she's only there when everyone is sleeping, but still. Snufkin has Moomin and even has in-universe 'fans' like Teety-Woo. Tooticky has her invisible creatures who love her, I guess?
[I have an incredibly cute screenshot of her in 2019 petting invisible shrew but IDK how many screenshots I can get away with without being taken down, I know how the company is like with this stuff. ]
Edit: NVM
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This leads me to why I wish Ninny was permanent in MV (again, for reasons I explained above, wish = headcanon). I can see why they didn't do that choice (adding Alicia instead or whatever; I love Alicia, but I'm making a point pls :joy:): post-invisibility Ninny would perhaps be too much of a Little My clone. But when I say MV2019 took some liberties, well, Ninny's final place to stay is not stated in the books. The 1990 anime in the original Japanese dub says she returns to her aunt, who ends up 'missing her' (and wow, I can see why they changed that to leave it ambiguous again in the English dub). 2019 randomly makes up that Tooticky has a sister to argue where they left Ninny at. And here's where I say... why not say Ninny stayed with Mymble? This would solve three things:
Ninny being permanent in MV
Adds a link between Mymble (Jr)* and Tooticky. Come on, people want them to have a connection after that one arm-clinging illustration.
Listen, I think Tooticky being lonely and comfortable with it is very much a part of her character; I think making up a relative for her is not a good move that contributes anything and more like decontributes.
The Mymble house indoors is never shown AFAIK so it wouldn't matter if they decided not to show Ninny again, just say she's there.
((*)BTW, I think I heard Mymble Jr. has not shown up in S1 to S3, but I've only watched S1, so I'm not sure. I have fears Tooticky will not show up again after S1 either. I'm going to cry.)
Like I think Tooticky would be aware she would not be the best caretaker (again, I don't view her as motherly; 'auntily' maybe, if anything lmao) and wouldn't want to keep her isolated anyways. I think Mymble Jr. also would enjoy having a calmer girl around she can read books with and braid her hair and whatnot. Little My's reaction to this would be interesting also.
Coming back to my point of being lonely, I think this could also be part of why Ninny could admire her, in part because she sees herself in Tooticky. So, I prefer Tooticky relative-less because, unlike other characters (Moomin, Mymbles, Sniff), Ninny has no relatives except an abusive one (actually not even blood-related in her original story). This is why I said 'Ninny and Tooticky could be the Moomin and Snufkin of Moomin.' If you keep Tooticky's original 'impassible, panders to no one' attitude most of the time but make her soft for Ninny, and add Ninny's past-influenced possible emotional attachment to her despite Tooticky keeping her distances (which here feels even more justified than Snufkin and Moomin having the feelings they do for each other; not saying all feelings have to be grounded in rationality, but yeah), it really hits. I'm not going into why Ninny might, could, probably be a lesbian as well because I'm kind of tired at this point and this is about Tooticky, but I don't mean this in a ship way it's more like a mentor relationship and I'm drawing parallels to Snufkin and Moomin dynamics for other reasons so people can understand me because I do see the appeal in snufmin.
Overall, I like to write about Tooticky, but she's mostly taking a counselor role in my stories, not just with Ninny but with the Groke as well (in the end, it's an equally lonely and sad character, the difference being she inevitably harms others while Ninny's invisibility just reflects pain on herself). I think, 'I never write about Tooticky's own problems, poor her, she deserves to be sent a whiskey crate,' but I literally don't know what kind of problems would be in-character for her to have. And when it comes to her life and past, I also make her intentionally vague, like she enjoys obscuring it to in-world characters and to the reader. Because anything else feels like going too far and writing an oc. In the end, I understand this is a highly personal character for Tove that was only created later in the series, so I would feel bad for desecrating it.
But regardless, talk to me about Tooticky and feel free to contribute because I tend to miss a lot of stuff. I realized I skipped the opportunity to send people I follow Tooticky questions for that character ask game everyone was reblogging, and I'm so mad at myself for thinking slow lmao.

@cannibal-lesbian here's the grima's subway fic drabble
don't question why my answer to "awakening character most likely to host a local news segment" is inigo though
behold, the page on my notepad app entitled simply, "sandwich"
LASLOW: "Good morning, people! My name is Laslow, and today I'm reporting on the ongoing feud between Askr's very first Fell Dragon, Grima, and a newcomer! The Silent Dragon, Anankos! I'm joined by the version of me wearing a bunny outfit who hasn't realized he likes boys yet! What's the situation, Inigo?"
INIGO: "I'm what? What's that about boys?"
LASLOW: "What's the situation, Inigo?"
INIGO: "Right. Right! After questioning the Summoner on the so-called World of Steel, the Fell Dragon has opened an establishment known as 'Subway'! However, now the Silent Dragon has created a shop known as 'Burger King' on the other side of the street here in the Aether Resort. Things are speeding up in the battle for the best fast food place in Askr. Back to you, Laslow! We need to talk later."
LASLOW: "Haha, no we don't! Figure it out yourself! Thank you for the summary, Inigo! And don't forget, I'm the only one of us who can say Anankos' name without dying here, and you're getting by on a technicality! So, Lilith, you're shift manager here at Burger King. What inspired your lord father to invest in the fast food industry?"
LILITH: "Did commander Anna put you up to this?"
LASLOW: "As one of the only people who know your father's true name, yes! It was either me or Odin, pick your poison. Back to the matter at hand?"
LILITH: ".....Fine. After witnessing Grima's efforts, Lord Anankos decided it would be the most efficient way to enact revenge on humanity."
LASLOW: "Serving burgers is an act of revenge?"
LILITH: ".....don't question Lord Anankos' will."
LASLOW: "Alright, alright. Another question. How do you feel about the business? I understand it's the first time you've talked to so many humans in a single day."
LILITH: "I will adjust. I always do. The business is doing great. We have many satisfied customers."
LASLOW: "What's your opinion on Grima's business venture? People are considering you rivals now."
LILITH: "Though Grima has inspired Lord Anankos, my Lord will prove to be the superior entrepreneur. It's a matter of time until Grima is silenced."
LASLOW: "And here you have it, from the Astral Dragon Lilith herself! Back to you, Inigo. How are things going in Subway?"
INIGO: "Business is booming! In addition to the customizable sandwiches offered by Subway, the baked goods are selling like hot cakes! The zombified corpse of Exalt Chrom is a terribly fast worker."
LASLOW: "Don't we know it!"
INIGO: "All those screams.... I'll never forget... Sliced up like those hams...."
MORGAN: "What are you doing."
INIGO: "H-WHAH! You suprised me! Hello, Morgan!"
MORGAN: "Hello, Inigo. Do you want to order."
INIGO: "Oh, uh, no! What brings a lovely lady like yourself to this fine establishment?"
MORGAN: "I work here."
INIGO: "I see. Care for an interview?"
MORGAN: "Any chance to spread Master Grima's influence."
INIGO: "Of course. So, you've been on record before that you don't have any evil plans for Askr-"
MORGAN: "That was the other me. The boy one. He serves a different Grima."
INIGO: "My apologies, you two are just always in cahoots. What does Grima hope to gain from opening this place?"
MORGAN: "Master Grima has become infatuated with the Summoner's stories of the World of Steel. He is hoping to understand the abject misery that world's people inflict upon one another."
INIGO: "Fascinating. So Subway is an experiment?"
MORGAN: "Of course our success also shows off Master Grima's incredible influence and our marketing campaign proves his tactical genius above all others."
INIGO: "Your marketing was certainly... impressive..."
CHROM: "Your order's completion... is inevitable..."
INIGO: "Dear Naga, you almost gave me a heart attack. I'm so happy none of you are allowed to kill me."
INIGO: "A last question before we go, what's your opinion on thr newly established Burger King?"
CHROM: "All will perish... to Grima's might..."
MORGAN: "That dragon is a hack and a fraud and Master Grima is better than him."
INIGO: "There you have it, folks! Grima's plan for sandwiched glory over all Zenith! More on this story as it develops!"

Then we have Quackity. And having reread the prequel, this is the second time Wilbur almost gets screwed up by the light from the windows messing with his vision. If I had a nickel… and so on.
Anyway, they are friends! (And probably doing some may or may not be joking flirting.) It’s amazing how fast the light air disappears when Quackity tries to get info about the announcement and Wilbur won’t show his cards. To Quackity Wilbur is just playing coy or showing loyalty. While Wilbur just does not want Quackity to know that he doesn’t know because of all the aforementioned implications.
[He wanted Quackity to be successful. Just not as the future King.] Sums up how Wilbur views Quackity pretty well. He doesn’t hate or even dislike him. He’s just in the way of Niki’s success, and Wilbur does want to see Niki succeed very badly. Both because she’s his friend and because it’s a guaranty to his position as future consul. Wilbur even says he admires Quackity’s skill as a leader and his willingness to take risks.
He also says that his wit is on par with his own, which Quackity sees too. [But I want you to know that there can still be a place for you here, regardless of how things shake out tonight.”] You could take this as either 1. Quackity’s faith in Wilbur’s ability to be a good consul because he’s obviously trained to be, 2. Quackity’s believe that Wilbur is useful to have around because of personal knowledge about his skill set. 3. Quackity wanting to keep Wilbur around because they are friends or most likely 4. A combination of all of these.
There’s also the nod during dinner (or more like right before the announcement), which feels like an acknowledgement that even though Wilbur is sitting at Niki’s side, he still has a place with Quackity. Because Quackity full believes it to be the announcement and thinks he will ‘win’ on top of that.
Also, side note cuz this probably won’t fit anywhere else, but we haven’t really seen a lot of Niki and Quackity together, so I can’t guess too much about their relationship, BUT he did talk to her about to announcement after(?) the dinner. They do talk, which means they are at least on okay terms, which means Phil’s plan to have them know each other is kinda working (except for the part where both of them think they are entitled to be the heir and a third dog is about to arrive to get the bone.)

BACK TO THE SPRUCE ROSE ASKS it's been a hot minute oops
hehe yeah the light in wilbur's eyes definitely isn't going to come back not at all nope
they're friends!! one of the things i'm most excited about with rose!tntduo is how their relationship is going to change over the course of the fic. they start out as childhood friends who, yes have this sense of rivalry always hanging over them, but it's never been too invasive. because while the choosing sides between quackity and niki existed, it wasn't fully there yet. choices like that didn't have to be made as children. but as the stakes get higher...
wilbur also admires quackity a lot. like niki is his best friend, his closest confidant besides his father, and the one who has promised him power for years now. so of course he's going to stay loyal to her. but he respects quackity and his intelligence. and quackity feels the same way about wilbur. despite the fact that wilbur is loyal to niki, quackity knows that since there's no true animosity between them, if he gets chosen as heir wilbur would be a powerful ally to hold onto. and also again, that's his friend! he wants wilbur to stick around.
you'll learn a bit more about quackity and niki's dynamic as the story develops, but yeah, right now the two of them are on pretty good terms. yes they're competing for the title of heir, but it's kind of a 'may the best man win' deal. they've grown up with each other, and have a lot of respect for the other as a result. while the trio of niki, wilbur, and quackity was never a proper 'trio', the three of them definitely snuck out into the palace gardens one night with a stolen bottle of wine and got drunk together.

While the joke was that Deborah just loves attention, she’s not gay or straight, I do think there’s room for really examining that and they did leave the door open.
Cause I do feel like the show is really asking about Deborah of what’s the difference between attention and real intimacy and desire and love.
That’s what Ava was trying to get at with her convo on comphet. There’s a difference between liking attention and actually desiring closeness and intimacy with another person. And it’s not always clear where the difference begins and ends.
Deb got caught up in the temporary attention by the women (which turned out not to be real which *sighs* let’s not get into that, it’ll just make me mad lol) which almost turned on its head the comphet point Ava was arguing. Deb got caught up in the attention of women, but there was still no real intimacy or desire.
The conclusion (at this point) feels less like “Deborah is straight and she just likes attention” more than it does “actually, Deborah is so closed off and cut off from her own desire that she can’t actually tell the difference between being attracted and just liking being wanted”. Which was Ava’s point but turned up to 11. Deb says she’s turned on by flattery, but I don’t think that’s really true.
Deborah is a performer and I don’t think Ava was wrong in her email that the adulation from fans gives Deborah a sense of love that she lacks in her personal life. But, of course, it’s not real love. These people don’t actually know Deborah, especially based on the fact that she’s been lying for so long. The tragedy of Deborah is, for so long, no one has really known her, not even supposedly the people closest to her.
But I think, like all people, Deborah has a deep desire in her heart to be seen for all she is and loved.
I think what’s clear about Deborah’s love life is that Deb loved Frank with all she had. She tried to make it work between them. She wanted that artistic life with him. She wanted a family with him. She wanted to share her new success with her family in the unaired pilot. But Frank didn’t want to see Deborah succeed, it threatened his ego. He loved Deb as long as she didn’t outshine him.
But even with someone she loved and someone she wanted to be close to, Deborah still had sexual problems with Frank.
“Ladies, have you ever noticed that men seem to feel entitled to sex on their birthday? No, thanks. You know, a word of advice. Next time, marry a guy born on leap day.”
In the original pilot script: “My ex-husband always thought he was entitled to sex on his birthday. No thanks. I’m going to make sure the next guy I marry was born on Leap Day.”
It’s hard to say at this point why Deborah struggles so much with sexual desire, as we still need more information. But I could argue that maybe the desire Deborah is missing from her life is actually related to how few of the people she sleeps with really know her. They’re sleeping with a version of Deborah that’s a performance. There’s an argument to be made that sexual desire for women is really wrapped up in wanting to be wanted and there’s truth to that. But the question is, which version of Deborah does she want to be wanted for?
She sings “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman” which does express the point of what kind of woman Deborah wants to be. Deb’s ideas about womanhood are being challenged right now. But it doesn’t feel earned because of a fake piece of attention she got from one woman who doesn’t know her.
“Although Goffin’s lyrics could be interpreted as describing a woman being validated by a man, the song has come to be seen as a celebration of womanhood and as an anthem for female empowerment. As Dr Mike Jones of Liverpool University’s Institute of Popular Music points out, no one who has listened to Franklin sing it ever imagined that this was a woman who needed validation from anyone.”
What strikes me about this song is that it actually is perfect for Deborah. It’s about a woman who has become more secure in herself. A woman who is living a more authentic and freer version of herself. Someone who has found clarity and purpose. Someone who has managed to both be confident in herself and in her own skin, but also free to get close to others. She is a woman who is self-assured and confident about her life, who she is and in her own body.
But the problem is that nothing before makes this song feel earned. Deborah hasn’t really gone beyond the idea of wanting validation from men, as evidenced by her desiring Marty’s attention. Ava has only just presented this idea to her and she’s had no time to digest it. Who has made Deborah feel like a “natural woman”? A woman who’s faking flirting with her? I get that she doesn’t know it’s fake at this point, but by making it fake it removes the impact of this moment.
See, I understand if the writers didn’t want to further the idea that anything romantic will happen with Deborah and Ava, but taking out the subtext actually makes it make less sense. It would’ve made more sense if a compliment from Ava would’ve inspired such a strong reaction from Deborah. Both because of how well Ava knows her and because of how much Deb cares about her. A beautiful young woman who has seen you at your least glamorous and knows your secrets and tells you you’re sexy? Especially from the woman who could embody the lyrics of “ When my soul was in the lost and found /You came along to claim it”. A woman who has broken through Deb’s walls and allowed her to finally start healing and living a fuller life. That would make the song feel justified.
Edit: @lavenderwedding made a good point that the song choice might be more about what Deborah wishes to be, rather than what she’s currently feeling. That’s honestly a good interpretation and I think is a good alternative to my initial thought that the song wasn’t earned. The song could suggest that Deborah eventually will become that self-assured, sexually confident and emotionally open protagonist of the song, but she’s not there yet. And the fact that this happens after the comphet discussion, Deb examining her sexuality could be the key to achieving this.
Cause it’s a natural human desire to want to be desired and validated. I don’t think that in of itself is a problem. Ava and Deborah provide each other the validation they’ve desperately been wanting. But when it comes to men, and people in general, Deborah has been getting validation for superficial reasons. A facade that’s not really who Deborah is deep down. Marty just wants to pick Deb up when he feels like it and has no interest in investing in her as a person. With other men, it might have been similar or Deb deliberately kept them at a distance so as not to risk hurt.
Why I think Deb’s idea that she’s turned on or wants flattery isn’t true is 1.07 where Ava tells DJ how cool it is that she found someone who loves her for exactly who she is. The camera cuts to Deboah looking sad. DJ accuses Deborah of being jealous that DJ has found a person who loves her and the thing is? I think she has a point. Deb keeps doubting DJ and Aidan’s love for each other and it’s proven wrong each time. Her own bad experiences with Frank making her not see that they’re the real deal. Her cynicism is proven unjustified.
Deborah wants to be loved unconditionally but she doesn’t know how to get out of her own way enough to let down her guard enough to let someone in. The risk is potentially pain when you’ve shown someone yourself and they reject you but there’s also a potential reward of someone seeing you and loving you. There is no shortcut to that. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith.
I have no idea whether or not having someone who sees Deborah clearly and loves her would fix her sexual problems, but it at least has powerful potential.
Part of why I believe (or believed, I don’t feel especially confident) that Ava was the partner Deborah has always wanted is that she makes all the pieces fit together of what Deborah has been missing.
Ava doesn’t start out as a fan, so slowly Ava starts to respect Deb as an artist. Ava doesn’t flatter her like a fan would, on the contrary, she challenges her which is what Deb needs. She forces Deb to stop performing and being more honesty, something that no one else ever calls her out on. Ava clearly sees Deborah in all the sides, as an artist, as a mother, as a friend. She shares Deborah’s love for the craft so she understands why this matters so much to her. But Ava is a writer, not a performer, so there’s not the same level of competitiveness, in fact they complement each other’s strengths. Ava is actually a good person, unlike Frank who felt no remorse when he hurt her. Deb can’t find a perfect partner, but she can find a good enough one who will try their best to be better. And finally, because of all her sexual problems with men and her narrow views on exploring her sexuality, Ava offers Deborah a chance to explore something she’s long not given herself the opportunity to do. Which in turns, her falling for Ava would challenge her internalized homophobia in a really substantial way where the consequences would be felt personally. If Deb can’t figure out her lesbophobia and compulsory heterosexuality, then she potentially loses out on a great relationship.
I’m not confident anymore this is the case because season 2 has taken out a lot of the romantic subtext of the first season, but all the pieces they set up still make sense even if they choose not to follow them.
Again, maybe all my concerns about Deborah’s sexuality could be answered. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of this. They’ve set up a lot of interesting pieces. What I’m not clear on is what solution they’re presenting Deborah with. Especially something that makes ALL the pieces fit together.
