Hey. Dunno if this works for OS but I remember reading mutual pining, post-hogwarts fic. Rated E. Meddlesome frnds bcoz they're tired of their pining. Revolves around playing darts. Set in a pub where gryffs are aurors and sly are unspeakables(?). One of the gryffs (Seamus?) dares Draco to throw 3 darts in a row after taking a shot (lvl 1). 3 in a row after 2or3 shots (lvl2). 3 w left hand after 3 shots (lvl3). The gamble starts w Harry paying galleons to Draco (1&2) and progesses further to him getting a kiss from Harry, if he wins(lvl3). If he loses, he has to give Harry a lap dance. All the while, H just sitting there going "why am I being involved if I'm not the one betting?" Draco mucks it up intentionally first for lap dance and then takes another shot and hits bullseye for the kiss. Leads to some very interesting outcomes.

Almost everyone else has arrived and is milling about on the lawn between the castle and the Quidditch pitch, and everybody watches, whispering, as Malfoy rides in, engine purring. He manoeuvres the bike to the outskirts of the crowd, near the broom shed, killing the engine, dismounting. He draws his wand sharply, as though preparing to duel, only to flick a ward over the bike.

“Stupid git,” murmurs Ron. “He’s not even wearing a helmet. I hope he crashes and gets a concussion and forgets how to be a dick.”

4. tell the story of the first time you came out

coming out has been such a slow, drawn-out process that i can't really remember what came first. i do remember going to a pride alliance meeting in high school with the aforementioned friend-i-was-sort-of-in-love-with. we were asked how we identified and we kind of looked at each other and went...bi? my heart was pounding. we did not go to another meeting.

i've come out to my mom at least three times, each one better than the last. at one point she revealed she sort of had an unspoken *thing* with a lesbian coworker of hers, who, now that i'm thinking about it, i definitely had a bit of a crush on. susan was so cool.

when i came out to my dad, he asked me to repeat myself several times because he didn't hear me the first time...or the second. or the third, until i was shouting IM GAY down the street (we were on a walk, wearing masks, during covid lockdown). then, he just nodded and said he wasn't very surprised. after all that work.

Fucking hell. Read a fic tonight, seven years old. Wrote out a comment only to find they are disabled on Ao3. @lqtraintracks forgive me, but I’m posting it here, because I absolutely must. And anyone who hasn’t read this fic also absolutely must!! Here I go:

Omg. How have I never read this?? Every time I think I’ve read all the joy you’ve written I find myself wrong. I go back to your works and check myself, looking for what I may have missed…and thank god I did tonight.

This was an utter delight. So much to love. Paranoid Draco? Scheming Millie? Draco so easily manipulated despite his paranoia? Fucking perfection. And then and then and then. Harry so confused by Draco’s attempts at his ‘plan’, completely lost when Draco loses it and as to why. Hermione joining her girlfriend in Slytherin scheming. THE SMUT! 🔥🔥🔥

Harry’s a much better person than me because I cackled SO HARD at Draco yard-saling it down the bunny slope. So fing hard. And in general at Harry teaching him to ski and Draco’s misplaced arrogance/assumption of skill. It’s so endearing that, despite amusement, Harry still took his charge as teacher seriously and worried for Draco’s safety. My heart.

Most pleasing and surprising of all is how this fic so effortlessly transitioned from humor to character and relationship development. Seemingly out of the blue I found myself immersed in Draco’s growth, in him finding and accepting himself, finding found family. And yet it wasn’t sudden at all. It was so gradual and well done that it wasn’t until the end, in retrospect, I was like, WOW, this took a beautiful turn I didn’t expect— and was so so natural. So damn beautiful, especially how the two of them came together and their relationship grew over just a few days. I particularly love how you subverted the ‘misunderstanding’ trope at the end and instead had Harry just address it head on. So very Harry. So very perfect.

Blaaaarg! I’m in love! Must read again. And side note, being an avid skier myself, I need WAY more of my favorite ships on ski holidays! Esp with hot springs involved….siiiigh.

Several people have been kind enough to let me publish their thoughts on fandom, community, and queerness to celebrate Pride in the Library. Today's piece comes from @lqtraintracks.

I got into fandom a long, long time ago, way back before I found HP in 2012. My early days in another fandom (days meaning years) are not a time I want to revisit, even though it started out really good. I got to explore my sexuality for the very first time there. I met my first gf there. And those things were beautiful, for sure; they were just short-lived. After a couple of years, I met an abuser, and from then on my fandom life was predetermined by them—what I could and couldn’t read, could and couldn’t write, who I could and couldn’t form friendships with, etc. And even in the midst of that, there were those friendships that bolstered me. @elrhiarhodan, I’m looking at you.

But after 13 ½ years of that… I found HP. And I found a wonderful person who would change my life. I met Shelly / @unmistakablyoatmeal. For the first time in a very long time, I saw someone writing queerly and freely, who, far from being limited to one pairing for life, was writing all kinds of pairings (and threesomes), dynamics, and stories! I was so powerfully drawn to that freedom, and to her, and in no small way, she and this fandom are why I survived, and how I escaped and started to change my life and reclaim it as my own.

I’ve met so many wonderful people here, many of whom have become close friends, my best friends. I’ve been writing all the queer smut my little queer heart has desired for many years now, and it’s been beyond amazing.

But something changed for us a few years ago, and our community hasn’t been the same since. The person who wrote the canon turned on us. She revealed herself to be all kinds of monstrous.

There were clues, of course—the antisemitism inherent in her Goblins, the fat phobia, the queer baiting without any actual rep, the racism and ignorance shown in naming Cho Chang, etc. We knew but maybe we didn’t want to know. And being white and not Jewish, I lived under an umbrella of privilege that meant I didn’t have to see it until other people began pointing these things out to me.

But then the transphobia started. And kept going. And it became her platform. And it got worse, and worse, and fucking worse

As painful and horrific as that has been, it seems to have done what that sort of vile bigotry has always done though: It’s shown us that we are and will always be stronger, wiser, more loving, and ultimately undefeatable. I’ll speak for myself: I wasn’t writing trans characters before. I was afraid I’d get it wrong. JKR’s evil bullshit is what pushed me to get over myself.

This fandom is where I have learned the most about the queer community I love. It’s where I’ve truly learned to write. And it’s where I’ve learned about facets of queer life I’d never connected to properly before out of the fear of trying.

Here’s what I’ve learned: Bloody no one comes together like we do! No one supports one another like we do! We’ve forged a stronger bond because of some terf’s hate, and I feel closer to my fellow queer creators than ever.

This fandom, you beautiful people, have taught me so much, continue to teach me so much. I’m honored to share this space with you. Happy Pride to all you gorgeous people being your trans, nb, fluid, ace, bi, pan, poly, intersex, queer, powerful selves. Thank you from the bottom of my little queer heart. I love you.
