i got a very sweet ao3 comment about how glad this reader was that they wouldn't have to worry about a weird exhausting jealousy plot happening with the princess AU lumiter, which made me realize that it straight-up just..... never occurred to me that a jealousy plot was a possibility. or at least not a traditional jealousy plot.

like, you have this situation where amity is watching luz and hunter bedshare and be their queerplatonic touchyfeely codependent selves, i guess it Would be easy to have her, like.... to have her be like "ugh, i wish luz wasn't with him, i wish i didn't have to watch him with her and pretend i don't want her, i am such a sad lesbian".... Especially given her messy history with hunter. like i guess the potential is there for her to go "but why HIM, he's such a DICK, why can't you seeeeee you belong with meeeeeeee 🎶"

or alternatively, there's potential for amity to go "i can't tell if the two of them are romantically involved, i'll be So Sad if it turns out they kiss, but if they're actually Just Friends and Only Friends and Nothing Else then i'll feel totally normal and cool about them <3"

but it just like. it genuinely never crossed my mind that she might feel that way or that the dynamic could play out like that. like the lesbian yearning is there but instead of being "ugh, fuck hunter, i wish he wasn't here" it's more like "i am so fucking touch-starved and i can't even tell which of them i want to be."

when amity starts loving luz it's mostly because luz treats hunter kindly & that disproves all the worst things amity feared about her. when amity starts trusting luz it's mostly because amity trusts hunter already, against all odds. when amity starts making dumbass self-sacrificing decisions for luz, one of the first things she does is go to hunter like, "listen. OUR luz now. tell me how to help"

there was never ever Ever going to be a timeline where amity was like "if i want to be in a relationship with luz, i have to get rid of hunter." or a timeline where luz was like "well, i'm with amity now!! i guess hunter is no longer a priority or allowed in my bed <3" like.

I am thinking about polygamous ships within Disney shows today.

By the way, for anyone curious about my thoughts on all these ships. I enjoy and ship all of them together. However, I have some criticism of certain portions of the relationship, specifically Lumity, TomStar, and Starco, mainly from the execution rather than the concept itself, which affects the quality of the ship for me.

Sidenote: The one aspect of polygamous relationships I adored is the focus on the lesser-known third dynamic of the relationship having equal rep time comparison to the main two ships. Seriously the third dynamic of a relationship always has so much interest and potential for great storylines, yet its acknowledgment is often an afterthought.(For Example: Amiter, Sasharcy & Tomco.)

the thing about Lunter (not a complaint) is that they’re so powerfully brat4brat. like Hunter’s natural tendency is to be a service sub, and Luz is just an enthusiastic sweetheart, but put them together and suddenly they’re both the obnoxious younger sibling.

What made you ship it? basically, lumity is canon, and both have a very interesting relationship with hunter so I think combining that is just! interesting. it combines a lot of things I like, and imagining them navigating that space would be... interesting.

What are your favorite things about the ship? all the different layers the relationships add to each other. it's funny to me because what hunter shares with both amity and luz is this, specific kind of trauma experience he can relate to on. hunter relates to luz on the bond they have regarding what went down with philip, feeling like these irreparably damaged people who are going to lose all their friends if they tell the truth and who just Fuck Things Up... and with amity you have the whole relating on familial abuse, having an abusive guardian, the different kinds of expectations that are set for you and how that effects you, etc. there's a deep understanding there potentially that isn't expanded on a lot in canon aside from eclipse lake, so it's really fun to imagine digging into. and of course, for the lumity angle I don't think it needs to be expressed as much because they are Canon but you know, luz being the first one to reach out to amity in a long time and establishing/changing parts of amity's life, how luz has played a role in shaping both hunter and amity's lives and how both hunter and amity have different (positive) feelings on luz. you can take any two individuals in this pairing, hold them up to the light and see that they have foil qualities to each other as well. it makes for a lot of interesting dynamics. there's also a lot of potential ways to explore the concept here, or different ways to approach the character's identities. do hunter and amity both date luz? do they all date each other? how does this look in practice? all fun to think about

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? man! i don't know. I think unfortunately despite really liking it I just do not see A Lot of it guess I wish I saw more of it in general

i'm only stumbling upon this interpretation after my like 14th time watching eclipse lake & i'm aware i have An Agenda (TM), so i'm not sure if this was INTENTIONAL or not, but like.

hunter tells amity "there's nothing worse than disappointing someone who thinks you're special" when amity is worrying about being a good girlfriend to luz.

and i think basically all the analysis i've seen has applied this line to belos and later to hunter's feelings about willow, both of which are 100% true.
