i love how taako and lup both have distinctly gnc aesthetics in most fanart & other fanon depictions of the twins, but they’re on the opposite ends of the spectrum of gender presentation.

like, taako is effeminate and extravagant, with flouncy skirts and puffy blouses and pretty dangly stuff hanging from the brim of his wizard hat. his signature color tends to be some shade of purple or pink, and/or any variation on pastels and fluffy frilly stuff. i’d almost compare his fanon fashion sense to modern lolita or mori fashion.

on the other hand, lup is a punk rocker chick if you’ve ever seen one. not masculine or tomboyish necessarily, but certainly rejecting stereotypical femininity. her signature color is red (obviously), and she tends to have flame and skeleton motifs associated with her. she almost always wears pants in fanart & cosplay. taako almost always has longer hair than lup — my favorite depiction of lup is by someone who makes animations for iconic scenes from the show whose username i’m blanking on, and they portray her with chin-length hair and an undercut.

lup being a trans woman makes portrayals of her complicated. i’m not trans, so it’s not my place to make a definitive argument on this topic, but i’ve read my share of discourse on the topic of her appearance with regard to her twin brother, taako. still, i think it’s interesting how these aspects tend to be constant across the board, regardless of one’s opinions on how she should be portrayed. and i love it! lup and taako really ought to have such wildly opposing aesthetics — it makes them fun!
