Totsukuni no Shoujo/ The Girl From the Other Side (Anime) Critic, opinion, no spoilers

3 chapters are way too little for this small masterpiece, it deserve 25 chapters at least. Another manga I need to read lmao

After know that Nagabe (Totsukuni no Shoujo’s author) and Kore Yamazaki (Mahoutsukai no Yome’s author) are friends, it have extra sense that both can be so similar and even share the voice actor.

The Plot is interesting. The lack of info from both characters give an unusual depth filled with assumptions and theories, and, at the same time, make you feel like the past is not really so important as the present, as if the story work entirely in a liminal space. No wonder why is considered a “cultural anime”. Don’t expect fast speed, this is a slow stedy travel to philosophy’s field.

The design style is so different that add a energy and charism to the story, that would be hard to get in other way. Is a tale mixed with a book drawing, shaking in front of our eyes. The symbolisms are strong and, yet, sutil.

The characters are special, different and absolutely warm, even when one of them is literally a dark entity. He yet manage to bring a old kind feeling, as if he is not evil, but more like part of the duality of the nature, between life and death.

The sporadic lack of music and sounds also bring an atmosphere that travel between weird and scary, with the feeling of be living there, with the nature working as a soundtrack in the life. It also give us the feeling of solitude, which, knowing that “sensei” live like that since probably centuries, manage to make us wonder how apart and sad he could be all this long.

Score: 4.9/5 and 9.9/10 Short, intense, lovely, an absolute must to watch.

Another The Ancient Magus Bride Theory:

What if Elias was originally a human mage's familiar?

Elias is constantly called out on being closer to the fae in his nature than human, although obviously he is more drawn to the latter. And Titania and Oberon call him 'child', supporting that idea that he may have previously been a fae himself.

And despite having trouble expressing it, it's been noted that Elias has a strange sort of 'love' for or/and desire to become closer to humanity. He both separated from Lindel and learned from Rahab because of this desire. To live among and observe humans rather than otherwise. Rahab even questioned him of this, to which he responded that he didn't know.

Could this love for people/desire to know more about humanity be caused by a previous life as a human's familiar?

Could the red he remembers be a significant part of that human? Was it Chise's hair colour? Could the hand that gave Chise back her wand be future Chise? Will time travel be significant to the Ancient Magus Bride world? Will there ever be a season 2 for the anime??

But hey, that's all a theory.
