I don't think i mentioned it before but im still glad i found lifelover in such pivotal moment. Back in 2020 i developed GAD (anxiety) where I was throwing up almost daily in the morning and when i could finally make it out the house, i found that the rhythm of both drums & guitar in their songs helped calm me down as it was predictable and mostly repeated (it fucks). It also turns out that Jonas also suffered with GAD severely and it made me feel less alone in a world full of people who associate 'anxiety' just to more known/basic symptoms - ok don't fully know insight to his experiences but it was something that was important to me. Idk im just glad i had that right at that moment. And nowadays when an incident does come up i think back to the past and like wow.. man i love that band and how it helped me so

music 03/04/24 - 03/08/24

The Cranberries — No Need to Argue (1994), To the Faithful Departed (1996), Bury the Hatchet (1999), Wake Up and Smell the Coffee (2001)

for some reason, i had assumed that their debut album was the only one worth listening to (altho i knew that "Zombie" is one of their biggest hits). i was, of course, sorely mistaken. i still need to finish listening to the rest of their discography, but if what i've heard so far is any indication, their sound and the quality of their music is very consistent. i really liked Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, so of course i liked all of this as well.

idk if i just need to do a few more listens to become more familiar with their entire body of work, but apparently No Need to Argue is their best-selling album—i don't see it, the 2 that stand out to me most are Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? and To the Faithful Departed. the former is their best imo and is the most characteristic of the band's identity. the latter shows that they have some versatility. in particular, the track "Salvation" really surprised me. it's shockingly noisy, punk, and energetic... for a Cranberries song, that is. different album, but "Zombie" is an outlier as well (it's grunge supposedly, no wonder why i don't care for it, idk why it's such a hit aside from the political messaging).

Cocteau Twins — Four-Calendar Café (1993)

good but not as good as Heaven or Las Vegas, probably

Polvo — Cor-Crane Secret (1992), Celebrate the New Dark Age (1994), S/T (1995), Exploded Drawing (1996), Shapes (1997), In Prism (2009), Siberia (2013)

i loved all of this a lot. my top 3 Polvo projects are Today's Active Lifestyles, Celebrate the New Dark Age, and Exploded Drawing, in that order. idk why it took me so long to listen to the rest of their discography considering how much i enjoyed Today's Active Lifestyles. easily a top favorite band for me. technical noise rock with an ethnic swing, need i say more?

The Cure — Faith (1981), The Head on the Door (1985)

these were the last 2 Cure albums i had yet to listen to. actually i think i'd listened to The Head on the Door before but idr. Faith is considered to be one of The Cure's best albums, but idk why, i didn't think much of it. same for The Head on the Door, except for "In Between Days", which is an awesome song. since it's the intro, you may as well just listen that first track then turn it off.

Lifelover — Pulver (2006), Erotik (2007), Konkurs (2008), Sjukdom (2011), Dekadens (2009)

in the past i've tried and failed several times to get into Lifelover. i was never ready for it because i didn't know anything about metal or how to listen to it. this time it finally clicked for me. i read that the idea behind this band is that it's "accessible" black metal because it incorporates melodic pop-like elements. i must confess i am a normie, and so i like their earlier projects better than their later ones because they seemed to get less pop/more metal over time. Pulver is by far my favorite, i loved it. i really like the vocalist (name: Kim Carlsson, i think), the way he screams and moans so emotionally it's almost erotic (or should i say... erotik...) and it makes me blush. it sounds like he's in pain, no wonder it's called dsbm.

i also read that some people are annoyed by the songwriting/structure of their songs. i can see that. sometimes it kinda seems like the band is just slapping together a bunch of disjointed musical movements at random. like they combined snippets from 5 different songs into one franken-song. this is how i used to feel when i listened to math rock before my brain had developed enough to appreciate it.

Cherubs — Heroin Man (1994)

i had big expectations going into this one because i read a bunch of reviews where people spoke very passionately and with such drama about how ear-splittingly intense and heavy and grating this album is. people were really acting like this is so noisy you can only stand to listen to it once in your life and never again. well i was a little disappointed on that front because to me this was very easy to listen to, not at all challenging, not too harsh or abrasive. nonetheless i liked it a lot. the only thing i disliked is the singer's voice, sometimes it's alright but mostly it's so fucking annoying.

and i read that it's some kind of sludge or sludge-adjacent genre. to me it was more like punk—especially in the lyricism, for the most part i couldn't really understand what the vocalist was saying, but it was still clearly apparent that the songwriting was very simplistic and juvenile, for example much of it is just repeating/screaming the song title over and over... not that it makes a difference to me because i like both kinds of music. but yeah.

Television — Marquee Moon (1977)

so like 10yrs ago i knew someone on a forum whose username was Marquee Moony. i never even thought to think about what it might mean, but it always sounded kind of funny to me. i guess it was a reference to this album. i wish it hadn't taken me so long to discover this album, but it's ok because i know i wouldn't have been able to appreciate it back then. it kinda reminds me of The Velvet Underground or The Beatles in that it's pretty normal by today's standards but is very experimental, noisy, and impressively progressive for the 90s.

Rodan — Rusty (1994)

i feel very lucky to have found this from a random spotify recommendation. i only listened once so far so i need to listen at least a million more times, but i really liked it. idk what happened exactly but i think this band only ever released 1 album because all the band members died so i'm kind of scared i just inherited some kind of curse.

"Imagine what we could have made, if only you had loved us," his son spits at him in between fighting the Weeds. He is back to back with the young Syldrathi who had spent their time together cursing him - his granddaughter, apparently.

He looks to his son's lifelove, the desperation on her slowly cracking face.

"Caerson, help me fix the echo," she cries desperately. He looks back to his son. His granddaughter and the now dead man his daughter chose to bring her into the world with.

And he gives in, reaching out his mind to Aurora and the echo.

He doesn't have a lot of love to produce to fix the echo, but he has enough.

He conjures up the night he met Laeleth, the shine of Evaa on her silvery hair, the not-quite-there smile of amusement at his distaste for the temple, her heart-shaped face so open to him. His pours his beautiful lifelove into the echo, a crack closing.

The night that they laid in bed together and she told him she was with child for the first time, the smile on her lips, the way she pressed close to him as they life they made together grew between them. He gives it to heal another crack in the echo.

He thinks of Saedii - the first time he held her, premature and so small she almost fit in one hand. She had squirmed and kicked in her swaddle, purple eyes wide and heart shaped face chubby. He had loved her with everything he had in the heart people said he didn't have. He gave the echo that private moment of him weeping over the innocent child he would eventually ruin.

Ignoring the echo for a beat, he lashes out at the weeds coming for the granddaughter Saedii had created. How had he missed his own daughters face in her own?

Turning back to the echo, he gives it the most tender moment he can think of. Saedii was almost four and had had a cold. He had held her in his lap and sewed up the little fray in her stuffed drakkon as she told him through a sniffly nose about how he was going to play with her little brother when he arrived.

The echo closes a little more.

He gives the echo Kaliis, the little tottering boy being pulled along in a meadow by his sister, both giggling the whole time. He wants to weep.

How had he hurt those children, his children?

He had been so prideful, vindictive, cruel. He hadn't even thought for a second about leaving his children battered and bruised.

He thinks of the night he had set the agoniser on Saedii after Laeleth and Kaliis had left. Of how she screamed and cried from the pain. What had once felt right now made him want to collapse on his knees at his daughters feet and beg her for forgiveness.

He poured those regrets, those cruelties, everything into the echo, the Neridaa slowly healing alongside.

He feels it heal finally and reaches towards Aurora's deep blue mind and shows her the note, shows her that little, fragile, loving part of himself.

And together, they play.

❤ Ouma being a nuisance around the house like leaving his socks places literally just because he knows it annoys her. He'll leave cups on the piano or putting dirty dishes on the counter rather than the sink. Nothing serious nor bad, just annoying.

❤ He brings home takeout as she's making dinner.

❤ If they're both up at like 2am he gives her sweet compliments, too, and they're usually overly sappy and he will act them out dramatically. They're always similes and other poetic suchs. "You have the vibrance of the sun if the moon never interfered with her day" or shit like that as he pretends to faint into her arms.

❤ She is very affectionate but with touch rather than words. She likes bringing him into her chest when they sleep next to each other, or leaning on him as they watch movies.

❤ ^ If he tries to hug her in public she's dodging him though she hates how informal he acts it annoys her.

❤ Sometimes they will go out and she will be like shit! I forgot something at home! And he pulls it out of his pocket. He's so considerate <3.

❤ He will go to her shows and then lie to her about being there. "No pshh I was busy doing other stuff duhh".

❤ I think when he originally asked her out she thought he was making fun of her, or that it was a joke.

❤ A part of her likes cleaning up after him. Ouma displays himself as a very independent man, so when he relies on her for something (like laundry) then it makes her feel needed. It's just a feeling that she enjoys, so she looks for it wherever she can get it.

❤ She is more outspoken when it comes to him making fun of her friends, and he is more likely to listen to her when she asks him to knock it off.

❤ "Don't do anything bad while you're out" or a "don't do anything I wouldn't do."

❤ His love language is also kinda quality time. It doesn't matter what she is doing, he wants to be around her.

❤ He likes it when she soothes him. She has the sweetest voice and she can say the most kind things.

❤ Omg he is in love with her like Gomez to Morticia.

❤ But oh my god he will still try to convince her to become an evil mastermind with him. It's all in good fun but he puts a lot of energy into trying to get her to say yes. If she does say yes, literally nothing would happen since he is just talking out of his ass, but that confirmation means that he 'wins'.

❤ ^ He gets amused about things like that. She's fun to play with because sometimes she takes him too serious and starts getting genuinely irritated at his fake evil banter (he tries not to laugh).

❤ Her puffy-cheeked pouting face is his favorite thing. It only motivates him to provoke her more.

Why do we as women find our worth, beauty, and what we think about others in this small frame? From out neck to our thighs that’s all that’s important?!? If it’s thin or fit then boy she’s beautiful and we all want to be like her. If she’s average the its oh she ok but she could improve? If she’s bigger then you think she should be then she’s fat, you giggle, maybe you give her nick name. If your the “fat” one you plan each meal or lack there of.
