Complaining because we're happy about buck finally dating the perfect guy is something… and comparing Tommy to Taylor, please

I really am trying to not be as petty as I can be.

I'll say it again, I actually like Buck and Tommy dating, I like canon bucktommy but the fanon bucktommy fans have made the ship so generic in record time, it's getting insufferable seeing posts about them.

Also, let's not kid ourselves and pretend that the insane fan support for Tommy/Lou that elevates the character to "perfect love interest" in just 2 episodes, is not largely unrelated to him being a hot attractive white man. (I still remember some of those bucktommy fans calling Tommy a Walmart version of Buck when the Tommy/Eddie speculation was a hot topic, and now look at them…) I do admit that both Buck and Tommy look very similar at times🤭

Tommy is not perfect, in fact that 1st date was really uncomfortable to watch and not only because of Buck.

1st: The fact that Tommy knew that Buck wasn't out and that this is literally his 1st date with a man, who had his 1st kiss some days before, which is the reason why Tommy picked a really out of the way restaurant for the date, but still he made a "funny" comment about closet spaces to Eddie, who he's not out to, was a choice. Specially when Tommy knows first hand how hard it is to come out to your friends.

2nd: The fact that not only did he not tell Buck about cutting the date short before leaving the restaurant, but that he called himself an Uber to go home and left him there on the sidewalk?? (Confirmation that Buck drove them there is nice though, passenger princess Tommy is canon 🤭)

3rd: For someone who knows Buck might not be ready to date anyone right now, saying yes to a 2nd date, after the disaster that 1st one turned out to be, and as a guest to his sister's wedding is a little insane.

I can imagine the vitriol and innumerable call out posts had Tommy been a female love interest. Aside from those points, is also deliciously ironic how fanon buddie is the way it is because fans were "tired" of the: bigger guy means he's a top and the smaller one is the bottom dynamic, but suddenly everyone is salivating at it now with bucktommy. Which again, it wouldn't be such a problem if it didn't devolve into stereotypes, just like in fanon buddie.

The one thing both ships have in common is that Buck is never allowed to be a character but just the "your name" tag, stereotypical bottom, infantilized and woobified to the point he's barely recognizable.

I like canon bucktommy and canon buddie (or their potential canon given Buck and Eddie's personalities, and how they are when dating other people), their fanon versions though, where they are stereotypes firsts and characters second? not so much.

In conclusion, I like Tommy and his potential, but he needs a lot of development to be considered a character at all (getting told he's cool is not character building) and awkward dates don't count either (specially when the same benefit is never given to the female love interests).

I'm sorry about your grandfather. Both about his passing and about the fact that it sounds like he didn't get the care he needed and deserved.

Yeah I'm pissed that both him and my grandmother didn't get the care that the needed and deserved.

My aunt did the same thing with my grandmother - became her "care giver" so she could just get money from the state.

And I understand that this type of care is not cheap, but I'd rather have people around who know how to care should something come up.

My aunt has NO training in anything other than fast food (which is fucking admirable seeing how she worked at Wendy's most of her life and became a GM,etc) and working in the cafeteria at a school (again, fucking admirable for all the shit they go through), but she didn't have any sort of training to handle people with Dementia.

My mom is going out in November to clean out my grandfather's stuff and I told her the only items that I want are any photos, maybe his military ribbons and any decent vintage artwork he might have, however I highly doubt anything will be salvable because everything was stored in basic sheds in Florida so things are probably ruined.

As a female gamer, one thing I love about Fromsoftware games is their female characters.

For me, a game having decent female characters is a huge selling point. I literally bought Elden Ring (and therefore got into souls games) just because of Malenia. She is literally the sole reason why I bought the game. I even bought the collectors edition of the game so I could get the figurine of her, which sits at the top shelf of my glass display shelf along with a figurine of Lady Maria.

I love how fleshed out the female characters are in Fromsoftware games. I love how the female characters are allowed to just be people, and not have their entire character revolve around them being female. They're allowed to be kind, mean, caring, selfish, deceitful, cunning, mysterious, vulnerable, strong, weak, and so many other things.

Even in the modern age, there are still so many games coming out that use female characters for just fanservice. All the time, I see games underutilize their female characters or just set them to the side entirely. Not once have I ever felt like a female character was used for fanservice in a Fromsoftware game, or at least, their entire character wasn't based around it.

I'm not saying that fanservice is inherently bad, I'm just saying that it gets a little exhausting when all of your favorite female characters, especially in video games, get over sexualized to the point where there's NSFW content of them everywhere. I know the same thing happens with some male characters, but I see it a lot more often with female characters.

I feel like a lot of newer games should take some notes from Fromsoftware when it comes to making female characters. It's 2023, after all.

MASQUERADE COSTUMES IN THE CURRENT RESTAGED PRODUCTION IN VIENNA VS ORIGINAL LOOKS

I tried to not cherry-pick my favourites of the original costumes. Rather, I looked for the most similar fabrics or constructions, while still trying to show a full-view and a similar pose to the Viennese photos. I hope the photoset makes sense.

Whereas the Restaged Tour's Masquerade costumes has been massively improved since UK 2012, especially for the Australian and Austrian productions, I think the biggest mistake still is to try and create ballroom costumes out of what is highly allegorical or character costumes. I don't think the transition is believable and would rather have seen newly designed Victorianesque gowns - like in the Mediterranean production. It would be more coherent to the uniforms and tailcoats most men wear in the scene.

Meg Giry's equestrian-inspired costume (row 5) is maybe the best example of how it would need a much bigger redesign to function. A grand bustle skirt, perhaps? The current added layers is bulky and unflattering to both the wearer and the costume.

I also think the Phantom's Red Death (row 3) has gone from an actual threat to a charming Alexander McQueen catwalk look. I'm not sure that's what I want from Red Death. They lost the death part. Same for Carlotta (row 4) - the original costume feature spiders and cobweb and bats, while the new one is all lace and feathers. I do however appreciate that they returned to the original silhouette and colours.

I do however think Christine's and Raoul's costumes (row 1 and 2) have been restored to more or less what Maria Bjørnson designed. Those are also the ones I like the most, along with the "flunkies" (not depicted).

If they thought Maria Hill dying was essential to the story? Fine. If Cobie Smulders wanted out? Fine. Why couldn't she just die in Episode 4 alongside Talos? And wouldn't a better death be for her to take a bullet for Fury and tell him to keep going while she dies in his arms? Yeah, I like Fury and Talos acting like they're married, too. But Maria's not some one-off, she's Fury's right hand woman and best friend! A position she's held since the first Avengers film. She deserved a much better death than what she was given.

Is kinda sad that can't cope with bucktommy getting so much support and probably being endgame due to fan reaction that you have make a weird af polycule to deal with it

I’ve been getting so much anon hate lately that I really feel like I’ve made it 😎 I’m gonna humor you anon.

I think I’ve said it before but I don’t hate Tevan (bucktommy), I’m incredibly happy that we just got two canon queer characters on the show and that Eddie’s coming out was at least planned at one point and hopefully it’s still in the plans.

The “fan reaction” at least on tumblr and AO3 is more of a thirst reaction really, because fanon bucktommy just did what fanon buddie did but with two episodes of content.

The headcanons for the ship can be summed up in: thirst tropes for Tommy’s actor (dom top Christian grey cosplayer) sounds familiar right? (latin lover trope eddie is in the background laughing) and then you have Evan “self insert” Buckley, in a new ship but never beating the 3 tropes in a trench coat allegations.

I’ve even seen bucktommy fans use pics of Buck during season 1 so Tommy has a “twink to take care of” ???? Buck who is as big as Tommy, a twink...

And is that last part the whole problem with bucktommy as a ship. The fans are willing to pretty much ignore Buck as he is in S7, replace him with his S1 character so they can again, repeat the Top (masculine, big, dominant) Bot (skinny, childish, submissive) dynamic and rinse and repeat the same boring cycle of: character they find hot (Tommy)/ thinly veiled female coded self-insert (Buck) Same thing that happens with fanon buddie.

It is kinda sad to think that if Tommy had been a female love interest, the fan reaction would’ve been very different. I didn’t completely hate Taylor Kelly but it’s very obvious why Tommy, who also did questionable things before, gets forgiven and elevated to “best love interest” in just 2 episodes and 3 scenes.

Tommy Kinnard is just as an undeveloped as Buck's previous female love interests but he's getting a pass from the fandom because he's hot.

Fanon bucktommy is just tropey headcanon over tropey headcanon. You can enjoy that. But I hated fanon buddie for the same reason so I won’t really be entertaining fanon bucktommy either.

All of this to say I’m coming out as a Buck stan as well. He deserves to be a character and not just a flanderized headcanoned trope. So, if you ever want to hang out with the buddietommy crew give me a follow.

I recently finished reading the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, and I have many new thoughts about the Netflix reimagining.

The more I think about it, the more the show seems…off. It’s by no means a bad watch, and I was very moved by the themes of family and trauma and how Hill House serves as the horrific backdrop to the ruination of this poor family but...it deviates so much from the meaning of the book. And part of me thinks that putting the focus on the whole Crain family and how the House has hurt them both individually and collectively completely undermines the themes of the book - loneliness, the repression that comes with womanhood, etc.

The whole book focuses on Eleanor Vance, who is the clear main character. She starts the book a 32 year old woman who feels more like a teenager due to her arrested development from taking care of her mother, a task that has taken her entire young adulthood. Her mother is now dead, and Eleanor is complete alone with nowhere to belong. We see her grow and change and be warped by Hill House throughout the book. We see her confidence grow and her simultaneous affection and disgust towards Theodora, and we watch as chapter after chapter, the house sinks it’s claws into her and the others, warping their emotions, turning them from laughing, mirthful children, to sullen, quite literally murderous, snippy individuals who say horrific things to each other.

When Eleanor is told to leave and go home after the house has fully possessed her & she almost hurts both herself and Luke Sanderson, she says no. She begs them not to send her away despite this being an attempt to save her life, because throughout the book Hill House has become a home to her in a way that nowhere else ever has. It welcomes her in, scrawls messages of welcome onto its walls, and gives her companionship in the form of Theodora. The fact that the story opens with her instinctive, gut reaction towards the place being "Hill House is vile, it is diseased. Get away from here at once" doesn't affect her newfound love for it. She is so desperate for a place to belong that the story ends with her veering off the road and crashing into the giant tree that grows in the house, and the tragedy revealed in the final monologue of the story - “…Silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone" - is that this attempt at assuaging her loneliness was a complete failure.

The tragedy of how Hill House has sunk its claws into Eleanor from the very beginning of the story is so intrinsically tied to her identity as a repressed, lonely woman in the 19th Century. Shirley Jackson herself was an unhappy housewife who likely wrote this female characters with the same/similar issues she was facing in her own life. Taking this story with its feminist themes and presenting it in the viewpoint of a man as your main character...

So I know that Mustang was just acting during this scene, to make it look more convincing, and he totally didn't see Ed coming, and Ed was a bit hasty /impulsive when he grabbed Mustang like that, and I know he made it up.....

By... having Ed "kidnapped" and forced into the dessert, zero context given... with metal bolted into his body that could hypothetically get hot enough to literally sear and burn his skin but whatever, it's an anime!

Ed's automail just chooses to obey reality apparently...

Mustang never really ever apologized for hitting Ed like that, like I know some people are out here saying how parental roy is... But both series he acts like a major douche who sometimes gives a fuck.

Like you lie about Hughes' death, see Ed watch a person burn to death, then hit him, let him wallow in that confusion, and then just pull a "sike! See I'm not an asshole! She's alive! Everything's cool now right?"

Like if your parental Figur behaves like this, remove them from your life... (- _-)

Maybe it's because I feel like some characters just never had slow moments to properly build a relationship, like... When tf has roy ever not been an ass towards Ed?, so I personally just don't get the entire parental roy thing, Hawkeye too, she cares, ig? Her talk with Ed and how her gaze softens around the Elrics... Shows that... But, parental??? Nah -

Maybe I don't get it, maybe someone could tag me and explain, but from my view the only two people who were remotely ever parental to the elric brother's were Hughes and Maria Ross, it felt like they were trying at least...

Do you prefer blue boots or pink heels pairing the star princess costume?

If talking the Restaged Tour I'm a big NO-FAN of pink shoes for the Star Princess costume. That especially goes for the T-strap shoes they featured in the Restaged US Tour:

First and foremost because these shoes are so 1920s in look, but also because I feel they looked cheap. Like emergency decorated shoes. In some photos they even look like sneakers or trainers.

In this I feel they at leat gave the costume a cleaner look in Vienna, with a glittering buckle (or rosetta) instead of the organza tongue and cameo brooch:

But regardless, I feel the costume gets more oomph, more impact with taller boots. Not ONLY because it is how Maria Bjørnson designed the costume, but also because it doesn't look as girly-girly as the low strap shoes. Here's the spin they have the costume in Australia, with blue ombre effect and pink lacing.

I do however have a trangely weak spot for the early replica US boots with a bold dash of pink where most boots are usually silvery. I never found any truly good photo of them, but here's a semi good one:

...and now I feel a Restaged-Tour-Star-Princess-footwear photoset needs to happen... Because the UK had some wild stuff going on...
