How do people get married?
All kinds of ways now, but it wasn't always so diverse. Long ago, there were only a few marriages and those were well recorded. In fact, we know the time and date of the very first wedding ever to take place, and have details of the ritual that took place.
The year was precisely 58,891 B.C.E. Though months have shifted since then, we know it took place at summer solstice at midday, and was under the shade of an orchard near the shores of Kuwait Bay.
The wedding was that of Mem and Selek, two hairstylists who decided to merge their lives and hair styling empires after meeting at the 13th annual Proto-Dilmunic Hair Product Expo (which featured the invention of shampoo, which then consisted solely of snake bile). Their romance was well known across the pre-agricultural civilization. It was said in petroglyphs of the era that Mem's love for Selek was such that when he would catch sight of Selek from his barber shop, he would likely shave the entire head of his client while distracted. Selek also loved Mem beyond compare, and was noted by other petroglyphs to frequently give him a "free trim and shave," which was an ancient euphemism for mutual oral sex while dipped in honey in a stone pit, as was the tradition at the time.
The Mem/Selek Wedding took six hours to conduct, and included a feast, an orgy, a combination feast/orgy, another feast, and a brief ceremony involving the smashing of a cup. As glass had not yet been invented, the cup was stone and this took up most of the time. Following this ceremonial act, there was another feast, a retelling of the entire history of civilization (thankfully as civilization was only a few weeks old at this point it didn't take long) and another orgy.
Of their future together we know little, except that they did not ever divorce, and they lived to the old age of 900 years, which confused everyone until some archaeologist figured out that they were using lunar years. But their wedding ceremony caught on and was for over ten thousand years the standard wedding ceremony across the entire span of humanity, which in those days covered almost 50 square miles.

Kenma is in the middle of his regular stream.
He mumbles something unintelligible, and someone off-camera mumbles something back.
Then Kenma's hand rises up, out of the camera’s field. When it drops back down, it has a ring on it. At the same time, he mumbles (slightly louder than before), “I do,” and there’s an answering “I do,” in response.
And that's the wedding.

@snotsloth: I just spent an hour writing a truly unhinged recap of Superman continuity instead of showering.
@physicalvocalist: I knew it was too quiet for you to be doing anything productive.

Me: To celebrate starting the new season of Bridgerton I should break out something both appropriate and festive. It's a fancy period drama and I've waited 2 years for another proper season.
Also me: *takes that as an opportunity to pour some of the good wine to drink out of my "Mawidge is what bwings us togevver today" mug*

Believe it or not, this is the cover of the first paperback edition of William Goldman’s The Princess Bride (1974). The hardcover first edition has a nice scene of a countryside and a castle, but this painting by Ted Coconis…is not that! I would love to read the brief he got. The front and back cover illustrations of the 1977 edition by Norman Green are much more in line with the actual story (though the tagline of “A Hot Fairy Tale,” is not, at least to my reading). I also included the 1992 paperback in blue because of the maps. They both have fold-out maps, but the blue one’s map is referred to as “inferior” which is true, but also amusing. Whatever the quality, the map is great. I love a fold-out map and this is one of the best I have encountered.
The novel (written but the same guy who wrote the Marathon Man, of all things) is essentially the same as the film, to an almost unnerving degree. There are bits that have more (more background for Fezzik, more nightmares for Buttercup), the biggest being Inigo and Fezzik’s descent into the Zoo of Death to retrieve the body of the Man in Black. Mostly, it is nearly impossible to separate the fairy tale portion of the book from the film. It even does the “Mawidge” gag. I will say that in the book, more characters sound like Jewish people from New York City (I always thought Billy Crystal’s Miracle Max was a sore thumb in the film, but it turns out he is actually a tonal hold-out).
The main difference is the frame. Goldman is the sick kid, but the discovers that when his father read the original book to him, he left out all the boring parts, so this is presented as his edit, “the good stuff version” that will hopefully appeal to his own (fictional) son. Like the film, Goldman butts into the narrative (in red text in the original paperback) to offer meta-commentary about the book, the publishing world and his own (fictional) hapless life. Its…weird. But good!

Anthony: “He’s done 50 Marvel movies and had 50 lines. This is the most you’re gonna see Bucky talk.”
(FWS “Just blink” clip)
“Who’s better at handling the shield?”
Sebastian: “Sam.”
Anthony: “Uh, oh no, you - you’ve had more time with it so - ”
Sebastian: “Maybe, yeah, maybe.”
“Who has the better haircut?”
Anthony: “Well, I got the waves, you know - I’m, I’m wavy, right now. You know the pomade got me lookin’ right, so - ”
Sebastian: (laughs once) “That’s it.”
Anthony: “That’s - I don’t know. I don’t -.”
Sebastian: “You win.”
(FWS “We look damn good though” clip)
“Who has the cooler, animatronic weapon - is it Sam’s wings or Bucky’s arm?”
Sebastian: “Sam’s got like fifteen different weapons; he’s got Redwing, he’s got, I mean you know, the goggles - there’s a lotta stuff going on.” (Anthony laughs)
Anthony: “The go - of all the stuff I have, you list the goggles.” (laughs)
Sebastian: “With the goggles you get like information in there, and I don’t know what else you’re googling up there. (Anthony laughs) You know like, you’re looking for haircuts and stuff, I mean there’s you flying; I’m just sitting down there going like ‘Yeah, I shouldn’t rip the door off this car right now.’”
Anthony: “This arm - ”
Sebastian: “Doesn’t really help.
Anthony: “I don’t know what to do with my arm.”
Sebastian: “All those times I’m saving old ladies crossing the street, from, from incoming buses.”
(”You couldn’t have done that earlier?” “I hate you” CW clip)
“Who has the better hard stare?”
Anthony: “Oh Bucky, no question. That’s his - that’s his move of choice.”
Sebastian (laughs) “Yeah. The stare-down.”
“Who has the best one-liners?”
Sebastian: “Uh, he does.”
Anthony: “I would have to say I do, yeah.”
(”That little girl kicked your ass” FWS clip)
Anthony: “He’s done 20 Marvel movies and had 50 lines. This is the most you’re gonna see Bucky talk.”
Sebastian: “By the end of the show, they’re sitting there going like ‘We should - we should dial it back.’
Anthony: (laughs) “We, yeah - ”
Sebastian: “Dial it back again to what it was.”
Anthony: “A little less talking.” (laughs aloud, Sebastian laughs silently)
“If Sam and Bucky had been been invited to Captain America’s wedding, who would’ve made the better best man?”
Sebastian: “Obviously probably Sam would have to do the speech.”
Anthony: “I - I feel like I would give a better speech ‘cos Winter Soldier’s speech is ‘I’ll kill you.’”
Sebastian: “Yeah. Yeah, it would be like, ‘Life is complicated’ - (Anthony laughs) but then Sam would go up there and go ‘Marriage is a complex institution.’”
Anthony: (in strange/almost child-like voice) “Mawiage. Mawidge.”
Sebastian: “,Marriage works.”
Anthony: (in child-like voice) “Compwicated.”

Me: Hey can you go pick up some compost bags from Lowe's while you're out grabbing lunch?
Phys: Yeah sure, send me a picture of the bag so I know what kind.
Me: *sends picture* Could you get me like 3-5 bags? They're less than $5 each.
Phys:... Sloth, these are 40lbs each...
Me: Yeah it's the same kind I got before. I'm putting it in several planters and the rest in the old raised bed I decided to revive. I know how much I need.
Phys:... Okay...
Me: Thank you! I love you!
Phys: ... Okay...

A maid stood in the doorway for the fourth time that week, an array of foreign flowers in her hands as she stared at the young heiress to the Guillard Chateau. "Milady, these are from your betrothed. The Shimadas have sent you more flowers." The maid said meekly. "--and... They have given notice that your fiance is on his way to see you."
Amélie took the flowers, and opened her mouth to thank the maid before she was interrupted.
Today?
Her eyes widened, as she tried processing this information.
“When should I expect him?”
