I smirked and typed back. "It's a start." I set down my phone and stripped down to shower up.

Early in his time in the NHL, Darnell Nurse says he did not notice a lot of players talking about what to do after hockey. Going into his ninth season, the chatter is now normal.

“People are curious as to what there is outside the game and what you can do to prepare yourself,” Nurse said.

Plenty of players have taken it upon themselves to prepare for the future, like Zdeno Chara getting his real estate license and others finishing college degrees or exploring business opportunities. The NHL Players’ Association on Thursday launched a program that gives its members the chance to do a personality analysis and delve into real estate, business or other avenues while still in the league.

The hope is to help them develop interests outside of hockey while playing and ease the transition to life afterward.

“It’s something that’s been missing a little bit,” veteran center Lars Eller told The Associated Press. “It’s kind of well known that one of the struggles for a professional athlete is the transition on to the next thing once he’s done with his professional career. And this platform helps you with that transition, and it’s something you can start even while you’re still playing so you can sort of hit the ground running once you’re done.”

New union boss Marty Walsh made helping former players one of his top priorities. His arrival in March coincided with a process two years in the making, after player feedback indicated the desire for more assistance outside of hockey.

The result is the NHLPA UNLMT program. Retired defenseman-turned-psychologist Jay Harrison is available to do an assessment, and players can get involved with companies ranging from Money Management International to The Second City comedy and improv theater and institutions like the University of Florida and Stanford’s graduate school of business.

Former goaltender Rob Zepp, who’s spearheading the program as the union’s director of strategic initiatives, said an extensive survey provided the building blocks for something that was designed to be 1-on-1 and customized for players to figure out what might interest them.

“What we’ve seen so far it really runs the gamut: anything from enhancing one’s personal brand to starting a podcast to taking these certificate-level courses in real estate, in entrepreneurship, in business, in leadership, communication skills, networking skills,” Zepp said. “We have players that are interested in or are currently pursuing commercial real estate avenues or farming ventures or construction.”

Eller, Nurse and Buffalo captain Kyle Okposo are among the players who have tried UNLMT so far. Okposo has already graduated from Stanford’s business leadership program, while Eller has spoken with Harrison and taken some of the courses offered.

“They’re not waiting until people’s careers are over,” said Nurse, who is still in his prime at 28. “It’s something that you can dip your feet into and grab a hold of while you’re still playing and giving you resources and opportunities to kind of figure out what you want to do.”

Zepp got a degree from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the University of Liverpool the old-school way — tapes and textbooks sent by mail and tests taken in front of a proctor — while playing mostly in the minors and Europe before before 10 games with Philadelphia in 2014-15. He felt like having something to study made him a better goalie and understood there was plenty of idle time on the road.

Eller, who is a silent partner involved with helping start-up businesses, thinks the same way.

“We, as players, we have — not a lot of freedom once the season is starting — but we do have a lot of free time,” said Eller, who scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal for Washington in 2018 and is a pending free agent at 34. “It’s a huge positive if you have something else that you can take your mind off of hockey and do something productive with that time.”

Walsh got to know several Bruins alumni when he was mayor of Boston and has since talked to other former players and come away with a mandate to protect guys beyond their time on the ice.

“When they played, they gave it their all, and a lot of them didn’t really have anything after that,” Walsh said. “They didn’t make big contracts. They really didn’t have a strong pension system. A lot of them, even going back further than that, lost stuff. We can’t let that happen again.”

I have tried many different artistic styles but I noticed that I had a particular talent for ceramic pottery, so a colleague and I started a ceramics workshop. But after two years I felt as if the workshop did not display my works or talent in the way I originally planned. For this reason I opened up different studio called WabiSabi with my sister Azar. Wabi Sabi is a Japanese philosophical concept that references the phenomenon of being when it comes to objects. Objects are not in their best or most beautiful form in their completion but rather when they break and experience wear and tear. For this reason, we shouldn't pursue things to completion, the beauty comes from its incompleteness. We as a studio are also incomplete. We are currently endeavoring to promote the Wabi Sabi culture in Iran and want to support artists who are growing but also have some faults they are working with. Reach of Online Education in Rural India

The concept of E-learning was introduced in the late nineties. But it was never a popular method of acquiring education until the Covid pandemic arrived. The pandemic acted as a catalyst as people couldn’t leave their homes and had to switch to online methods for learning. Since then, online education has become a ubiquitous part of our education system. The urban area of the country are leveraging internet and electronic mobile devices to purse reputed courses like NMIMS distance MBA, distance BBA, distance BSc along with short term professional certifications.

In rural areas, before covid arrived, Online education was never a thing. Neither, the rural areas have Internet facilities which is the basic requirement of e-learning, nor people are aware. After covid, a lot of students who were studying in urban areas had to shift back to their native places which were not very developed in terms of technology. They reported to face a number of problems when it came to continuing their studies using the Internet as the pandemic hit at a critical time when the academic year 2019-20 was about to end, and it was very important for the students and the institutions to complete their classes.

Poor data connectivity, a lack of access to computers and smartphones, and power problems in villages made it difficult for the students to access the online courses offered by their universities. Students have been known to go to locations outside their villages in quest of the elusive mobile wireless connection. The media has reported a case where a child in Karnataka climbed a tree to get a strong enough mobile signal. Managing access to online classes was extremely difficult for students, particularly girls.

A survey that expresses the condition of Online Education in India

Many challenges which are now faced regarding online education are revealed by a study of a Government First Grade College (GFGC). The college is situated near the taluk office, which is 20 kilometres from the district office and 90 kilometres from Bengaluru, the state capital.

The students that go to this college are around 20 km from the area around the institutions. The college offers graduation and post-graduation courses and has 1060 students in total. The college switched to online methods of teaching after the pandemic. A survey was conducted and input was taken from 20 faculty members(a total was 21) and 724 students with the purpose of taking feedback regarding the online method of learning in remote areas.

Results of the survey:

Teachers communicate with students through a variety of channels, including websites, youtube videos, Jnana Nidhi (a YouTube channel), WhatsApp videos, and reading notes sent via email and Whatsapp.

With 66 percent of all techniques employed, sharing reading notes with students was found to be the most effective way.

Each faculty member connected with students on average 30 times.

For their own internal meetings, the academics used the collaboration technology ZOOM.

Teachers reported that they are facing problems due to a lack of assistance regarding new technology.

The faculty had no knowledge of how to make lesson films.

60% of the professors said it was challenging to make videos on their smartphones.

80% of the staff was not having any broadband connection and they were using their personal Internet to teach their students.

65 % of faculty faced signal issues.

Power Issues were also faced by all the members who were part of the program.

The majority of issues faced were regarding poor data connectivity.

Lack of training

Reasons why Online education cannot reach remote areas

No availability of the latest smart devices and a lack of accessibility to the online content that urban citizens enjoy daily.

Do not have enough resources to buy a personal laptop or desktop, depending on family members’ devices for studying

Can not afford expensive data plans.

Lack of awareness among people due to which they do not support the facility for their children.

Suggestions (Steps towards Transformation)

Availability of the tutor all the time.

Proper training regarding the technology part for both teachers and students

Clarity of technical doubts.

Creating a community between students- teachers and students- students to deal with any issues, learn about hobbies and interests of the other p[erson, etc.

Exploration with more and more tools so that the process can be made easier and more convenient.

Orienting students about all the changes coming in the Online Education system

Introducing various methods of Interaction, group discussions, and activities so that active learning can be encouraged.

Organizing the study material in such a way that it is easily adaptable to the students.
