Whats your opinion on the theory that Alex Jones is a psyop to make people who bring up 'real' conspiracies that the government did (stuff like MK Ultra, Operation Paperclip) seem crazy
He doesn't need to be a psyop. He fulfills that role simply by existing. If he is a psyop, he's the most dedicated actor in history.
He's basically just a racist charismatic preacher. Same basic model that America has been churning out since it's inception.

Poll for Fallout fans
More Info below the cut!
Power Armor is one of the defining elements of the Fallout franchise, being as old as the series itself. Through over 25 years of development, two different owners, three development studios, and a certain Howard, Fallout has seen much evolution since its inception. Power Armor is no different, having had many, MANY iterations over the years. There are many varieties and variations, and if I tried to include every variant in this poll, there simply wouldn't be enough room. So to keep things simple, I've condensed this list to the power armor designs that appear in multiple entries of the franchise, those being:
T-45D
Tumblr media
First introduced in Fallout 3, Bethesda's take on Pre-War Power Armor is one that has resonated with many fans, appearing in every Fallout game since. T-45 is the most common Power Armor in most Fallout games, and is most commonly used by the Brotherhood of Steel.
T-51B
Tumblr media
T-51 Power Armor is as old as Fallout itself, first appearing in Fallout: A Post-Nuclear Roleplaying Game as simply "Power Armor" and only acquiring its iconic "51" in Fallout 3. The pinnacle of Pre-War Power Armor, T-51 is absolutely iconic, being used by the Brotherhood of Steel since its inception in 1997.
T-60C
Tumblr media
A modified version of the T-45, T-60 power armor was the Poster Child of Fallout 4. Used by Arthur Maxson's Brotherhood, T-60 is weaker than T-51 (Lore-Wise) but is easy to convert from T-45, making it more viable as a long-term solution. T-60 is best-known for being the suit worn by Paladin Danse, but has carved a niche for itself within the fandom.
X-01
Tumblr media
X-01, perhaps better known as the Advanced Power Armor Mk II, is the model of Power Armor developed by the Enclave for use in a Post-Nuclear world. First appearing in Fallout 2, X-01 is a Fan-Favorite design among fans for its unique presence. The X-01 is the best Power Armor model currently available, and with the eradication of the Enclave it will likely stay that way.
Please reblog this if you got to the end, ok? I'm a simple girl, I just want an honest poll. I put a lot of effort into that recap, so please do me the favor of spreading this around, ok?

TRANCE: Mind Control, Human Slavery, and Healing the Nation
The Cathy O’Brien Story What were the results of the experimentation and practice of social engineering and mind control during the Cold War? When Operation Paperclip was ushered into the United States, coinciding with the inception of the CIA and the National Security Act, Nazi research and trauma-based mind-control experiments were brought to the US, initiating Project MK ULTRA. Putting Living Doll/the miniature storyline aside, can you think of any other way the audience and team could have found out about GSR? Personally, I liked that the audience knew before the other characters.
I think I watched in one of the DVD extras that the showrunners usually map out the season’s storyline or at least where they want the season to go. I think they always intended Sara to be one of the MK’s victims which paved the way for the team reveal. I guess this was plan B with Gum Drops being plan A (would Greg have been the first to find out??). I liked how it was revealed in LD but I think I would have preferred it more in a character-centric episode.
What kind of episodes do you think could serve as the ones to reveal GSR to the audience and/or to the team? Thank you in advance and apologies if this Ask has been done :)
hi, @renb80s!
so, first off, to answer the smaller question inside your larger one:
yes, had the originally planned gsr reveal from episode 06x05 "gum drops" actually made it to screen, greg would have been the first person on the team to find out that grissom and sara were an item—however, for how long he would have been the only team member "in the know," we really can't say.
it's possible that he might have immediately revealed what he'd seen to warrick and nick within the course of the episode or that they themselves might have come to sara's motel room not long after him and seen what was going on for themselves or even that grissom and sara would’ve just come clean to everyone once they were aware that greg knew. however, it's also possible that, barring those outcomes, it might have taken a bit longer for everyone to learn the truth; perhaps the season might have continued with each team member finding out individually at various points along the way or with everyone else besides greg finding out all together as part of some bigger event.
honestly, without having access to the original script for the episode, we really can't say.
so to speak to your larger question itself:
there is very little "one size fits all" writing advice to which i subscribe, except for maybe this thing the inimitable flannery o'conner once said, namely:
“it's always wrong of course to say that you can't do this or you can't do that in fiction. you can do anything you can get away with, but nobody has ever gotten away with much.”
to apply that maxim to the gsr romantic reveal: there are probably hundreds of potential routes that the writers could have possibly taken in terms of introducing grissom and sara’s relationship to both the audience and the characters, all of them theoretically viable as long as they received appropriate narrative treatment to make them “work.”
that so, i don’t think there’s really one “right” answer to your question.
there are so many ways the writers could’ve cooked this particular egg, you know?
in theory, there is a really compelling version of the story where they introduce the relationship to us right at its inception, showing the traditional “first kiss,” coming-together moment on screen, just like most other shows would do for their flagship, slow-burn “will they or won’t they?” couples.
in theory, there is a really compelling version of the story where they play it more as a slow build-up thing, where the audience is shown that grissom and sara are already together (with a relationship already in progress) in some quiet, mid-season episode, and then gradually more and more characters are looped in on that fact, as well, until eventually grissom and sara publicly “come out” in a more official way.
in theory, there is a really compelling version of the story where the audience and the characters find out simultaneously, maybe as part of some big mid-season sweeps event or cliffhanger season finale (prior to s7).
in theory, there’s a really compelling version of the story where they play with the economy of information, having some characters find out before others, with the audience being the only ones to learn the “full truth” prior to some big “coming out” moment.
in theory—
well, you get the point.
there are any number of ways they could have played things.
as for what my preferred method(s) might be, i suppose my answers change depending on the variables.
discussion after the “keep reading,” if you’re interested.
__
if we presume that tptb were never going to show us the big “get together” moment right as it happened in late s5 or early s6, meaning that we were always going to learn about the relationship ex post facto, then i, like you, am very much a fan of the approach they ended up taking, in terms of letting the audience know before the other characters, as i think it added some nice dramatic tension (and at times comedic irony) to the storyline.
so that’s something i would keep, pretty much across the board.
as for where they might have let the other characters find out, i’m somewhat conflicted.
on the one hand, i honestly might have liked to see them have grissom and sara arrive at the decision to “come out” of their own volitions, rather than being forced into doing so by external circumstances, as it would have been nice to see some character-driven reasons for them doing so as opposed to plot-driven ones.
of course, on the other hand, i understand the inherent drama value of having them be forced into the choice or having the choice taken away from them by outside influences beyond their control.
that so, i guess i could find either kind of story compelling, depending on how everything was executed.
so a few different scenarios:
one place where tptb might have been able to fit in the reveal would have been at the end of s5 or beginning of s6, as a reaction to the events of episodes 05x24 and 05x25 “grave danger,” pts. i and ii—and they’d have had multiple different ways they would have been able to stage things, had they trodden that path.
in any scenario surrounding these episodes, we would, of course, have to assume that grissom and sara had already gotten together at some point mid-s5 (which of course is something i already tend to do anyway) and had therefore been secretly dating for at least a couple of months leading up to nick’s abduction. however, we, as the audience, would have been introduced to the fact that they were dating sometime during this span, as opposed to at the end of s6.
i’m not really picky about how and when said audience introduction might occur.
perhaps we could be treated to an additional scene during episode 05x18 “spark of life” where at the end of the episode, it cuts back to grissom and sara in a car, making out at the top of the burnt-out hillside under a cascade of stars, with some flirty banter thrown in about how sara really doesn’t have to hint so hard to get grissom to kiss her (“not anymore”);
potentially at some point during episode 05x19 “4 x 4,” we could get some follow-up between grissom and sara about the whole “greg seeing sara naked at their crime scene” fiasco (see here);
maybe (more dramatically) after sara’s run-in with adam trent in episode 05x21 “committed,” grissom could end up pulling her aside somewhere and kissing her in such a way that made it clear that they’re together and have been for some time.
—but, in any case, the introduction for the rest of the characters would come on the heels of nick’s abduction at the end of s5 or the beginning of s6, depending.
so, for said character reveal:
it could be a quiet thing, where after nick is taken away in the ambulance, we get a kind of tableau shot of the team (minus catherine and warrick, who went with nick to the hospital) slumped down and exhausted, sitting around the open grave they just dug nick out of, and grissom and sara are huddled together with her head on his shoulder, holding hands, greg, brass, and ecklie watching them but not saying anything about what they’re seeing atm, and then s6 starts with grissom and sara together and “out” (with whatever attendant alterations to the team structure that change would entail already made).
it could also potentially be more of a “drama” thing, where maybe sara is more actively involved in the whole cash drop-off part of the investigation, perhaps monitoring grissom from afar as part of a police surveillance team or something, and she refuses to hold off after grissom is nearly blown up by the c4 and essentially ends up “drawing back the curtain” for everyone to see as she runs into the building after the blast or even as she fawns over him while he sits in the back of the ambulance.
maybe we could get a nice little callback to the “honey” scene from episode 03x22 “play with fire” but with the roles reversed.
and, of course, in the aftermath of such an outward show of concern and affection, everyone would know what was what.
alternatively, maybe it could be a deal where as the stress is mounting for the team during the course of the investigation—and for no one more so than grissom, who is heading up the rescue efforts—sara pulls him into his office or aside in some secluded hallway to offer comfort to him and is running her hands over his face or hugging him when someone else walks in on them.
in those scenarios, again, the full fallout from the reveal probably wouldn’t be made known to the audience until the start of s6.
of course, another way to play things surrounding the events of nick’s abduction might be not to have any explicit reveal to the team in the episodes themselves but rather to have grissom and sara start out s6 by officially “coming out” with their relationship as a kind of belated response to that event, as a kind of “life is short and we’re done waiting to be happy”-type deal (a la warrick marrying tina).
of course, if one prefers to play with the whole “the audience knows grissom and sara are together but the characters don’t” setup for a bit longer, then another potential spot for making the in-universe reveal might be during the course of s7, surrounding grissom’s sabbatical storyline.
again, the writers could’ve chosen any point subsequent to episode 05x13 “nesting dolls” to let the audience in on the secret, but then they could have held off on letting any of the members of team graveyard learn the truth (much as is the case in canon) until much later on.
since so much of the s7 gsr storyline already revolves around sara’s feelings of insecurity regarding grissom’s level of investment in the relationship plus both of them becoming increasingly uncomfortable with their whole “secret dating lifestyle” (particularly as they more and more have marriage on the brain), it would have been really easy for the writers to just lean into that narrative tension even more deliberately than they do in canon in order to ramp up to a reveal.
after teasing out the idea that a major source of sara’s doubts concerning the strength of grissom’s commitment to her is the fact that, from her perspective, he seems so comfortable keeping their life together indefinitely on the dl, they could then show the audience that grissom is not as comfortable with the situation as sara thinks. him going on sabbatical could, as it does in canon, serve as a kind of turning point, where sara spends his time away fretting about whether or not she and grissom are actually on the same page about what they want out of their relationship with each other, while in the meanwhile grissom increasingly comes to the conclusion that he is finally ready to make it clear to both sara and the world that he wants nothing more than to be with her.
maybe in this version of the story, his unsent letter could include a marriage proposal, which he ultimately decides against sending because he would prefer to “pop the question” in person.
but then he gets back to vegas, and something happens which derails his plans for a hot minute.
perhaps in this version of the story, there’s a bigger fallout from the whole keppler debacle or the events of episode 07x16 “monster in the box” take place immediately upon grissom’s return to the city, instead of a week later.
in any case, the writers could find some way to kind of prolong sara thinking that things were just going to go back to normal, with her and grissom falling back into their interminable state of secret dating—only to then have her discover grissom’s letter, much as she does in canon in episode 07x22 “leapin’ lizards.”
maybe the writers could then work this plot development into the events of episode 07x23 “the good, the bad, and the dominatrix,” with sara questioning why grissom changed his mind about sending the letter—does he not want to marry her after all?—at the same time that none other but lady heather rolls onto the scene.
and maybe whereas in canon, sara drops quietly out of the episode after expressing jealousy and then everything reverts back to status normal between her and grissom by the next week (with no explanation ever provided as to how they kissed and made up), maybe in this story, she and grissom could actually end up hashing things out, with grissom making it very clear to her that he hasn’t at all decided against proposing and that he isn’t interested in heather and that all he wants is just to marry her, if she’ll have him.
and maybe once she says yes—because of course she will—they close out the season by making an announcement to the team or going in to see ecklie to discuss their options.
of course, these options are all just kind of ones i’m spit-balling—and i’m not necessarily married to any of them—and certainly there are myriad other ways everything might all play out.
for example, maybe the reveal could involve each member of team graveyard individually discovering grissom and sara’s secret slowly over the course of the season, only for everyone to eventually at some point realize that they’re all equally in the know (a la the classic friends-style “they don’t know that we know that they know!” sequence) and confront grissom and sara about it. or maybe the entire gsr romantic storyline would be so wholly different from what happens in canon that some unforeseen circumstance might lead to grissom and sara “coming out” (like maybe in this version of the story, sara gets pregnant or grissom is kidnapped or rather than dismantling the team in s5, ecklie just makes catherine supervisor over grissom or something, and the fact that this new thing happens completely alters the trajectory of everything).
like i said above, in theory, there are any number of “everyone finds out that grissom and sara are together” stories that i could potentially find compelling if the narratives were well-handled.
it all would just depend.
anyway.
thanks for the question! please feel welcome to send another any time.

"Tuesday looks up the MK Wiki" (no episode 3 and 4 for now because I would rather not pull an all nighter finishing season 1)
It is Red Son and not Red Sun. Or Red Tsun if you want to be extra...Rec Tsundere asdfghjkl
Mei is the correct spelling—good job, Tuesday.
The kitten is named Mo I guess
I spelled Pigsy's name right the first time and that really is just his name. His parents really looked down at him and decided "We're going to name you after our species".
What the hell is a Calabash
There are two Tangs? (As in, two separate characters who are not alternate versions of each other named Tang? How does that not get confusing?)
Regular Tang is apparently called "Golden Cicada Yum Yum" and I'm not sure I want to know who coined that nickname for him.
Pigsy is his enemy? I thought that was his husband...I mean, it's not like I was expecting that representation from a Lego adaptation of Journey to the West but still :'D
Sharing your knowledge of Monkey King in exchange for free noodles? I respect the hustle, Tang, but you are taking advantage of a child.
Omg MK is going to call Pigsy "Dadsy"
Trying to avoid mentioning potential spoilers but I had to mention the Dadsy thing
Pigsy uses sausage nunchucks? Aren't sausages made from pig? Imagine using a weapon made out of human flesh...
Ah, Pigsy is his name in the English Translation of Journey to the West...that explains it.
Tang is not Mei's father. Okie dokie.
Mei likes MCR I guess
The Monkey King's VA has created a Dragon Ball/Journey to the West inception thing
MK doesn't have a birth name or parents
Why does everyone hate the Speedy Panda
MK knows everything about Monkey King—so why does he need Tang to info dump on him? ...probably for the sake of the audience but like, why have that on the wiki when MK had no clue he could clone himself?
MK is afraid of spiders but turns into one...
MK's book is so cute
I just saw a spoiler on his wiki page and I'm concerned for the child

Stranger Things - Inception
Hawkins, Indiana. 1947-1979
During the 1950's, MK Ultra experimentation was rampant, notable figures such as Donald Ewen Cameron and Martin Brenner looking for college-aged women to run their experiments on. That is when Virginia Creel involved herself, volunteering as a willing test subject sometime before 1947. During these trials, Virginia would begin to develop mild psionic abilities, most of which she would pass onto her son, Henry Creel. Virginia would keep in contact with Martin Brenner even after she left MKUltra in order to raise a family with her newly-wed husband, Victor Creel. Together, alongside their two children, the husband and wife pair would move into a quant house in the rural town of Hawkins, Indiana.

It did not take long for Henry to develop abilities of his own, causing Virginia to frequently take him to Hawkins Lab for evaluation, curtesy of one Martin Brenner. These check-ups made Henry weary, and a deep hatred for his mother festered within him. He'd become far more removed, using his developing powers to torture and kill defenceless animals. As the violence escalated, Henry saw a potential in himself- a purpose. These parasites he called his 'fellow man' were unnatural, and he was meant to eradicate them; he was gifted with these powers and given a mission to cleanse the world of human sickness.

As such, over the span of a few weeks, Henry would enact the first stage of his plan, killing his mother and sister whilst driving his father to the brink of insanity. Still, even with his plan going off without a hitch, Henry failed to recognise his limits and fell into a brief coma. In the aftermath of the 'Creel House Murders,' Victor would be sent away to a psych ward and Henry, who was presumed dead by the populous, was easily taken away to Hawkins Laboratory. It was here that Henry was kept by Martin Brenner, experimented on and raised until the year 1979 where he met Jane 'Eleven' Ives. You see, in all of Henry's time in the lab, he'd seen gifted children like him, but Eleven was the first he could call an equal; he wished for her to join him in his mission to cleanse the world.
So, over the span of a few weeks, Henry would befriend Eleven and even go as far as to help her escape the dreaded lab. However, there was a hitch. Going against Henry's wishes to not follow him back into the lab, the young Eleven would stumble upon a massacre in the rainbow room- Henry at the centre of it all. He would explain to her his ideology - how humanity was a parasite - and attempt to sway her to his side. Eleven was unwavering.
In a show of immense power, Eleven would best Henry, banishing him to an alternate dimension which would later come to be known as the Upside Down.
New York. 1971-78
In the spring of 1971, Sara would be born to Jim and Diane Hopper on the 21st April. Sara had a modest upbringing, her father a high-ranking officer in the New York PD and her mother an elementary school teacher. Still, even when working two full-time jobs, her parents still found time for Sara. She was a gifted girl, showing a keen interest in the sciences, specifically the study of astronomy. The thought of exploring new worlds excited Sara.
Then, tragedy struck. Sometime around 1977, Sara would experience an episode that had her parents concerned, so much so that they took her to a hospital for evaluation. A cancerous tumour would be found in Sara's head, which caused her to be bed-ridden for some time as she underwent chemotherapy. During this time, Jim and Diane's marriage would take a hit, the only thing keeping them together being their little girl. Even as a child, Sara could sense the tension between the two, and it upset her. With the restriction of being confined to a bed constantly and her parent's imminent divorce on the horizon, Sara would be thrown into a depression that was only heightened by the blow of chemotherapy.
Sara was at an all time low and needed an escape. Luckily, she found one. With this world being so grim and fraught with awfulness, Sara would take her fondness for space and other worlds and channel it into a pen. Using her crude understanding of language (still extraordinary for her age), Sara would fantasise about a 'perfect' world that she could escape to. This world was a mirror of her own, only without a single flaw.
The sun was always shining overhead wherever you went, the creatures were fuzzy and content and the air smelt like cotton candy. Unbeknownst to her, however, this world slowly began to become physical. For you see, Jim and Diane Hopper had their own secrets that they did not tell. Before she met Jim, Diane took part of MK Ultra experiments which gave her minor psychic abilities. Meanwhile, during his time fighting in Vietnam, Jim was exposed to Agent Orange, a chemical solution that, amongst other things, was tested on soldiers by the United States government in a back alley operation.
When the two of them came together to have Sara, they unknowingly conceived a child with extraordinary abilities given to her by Diane that were only bolstered by Jim's exposure to Agent Orange. These powers were so immense that, when Sara began to image an perfect utopia for herself, it become real. When she slept, Sara would visit the strange new world, finding solace in it during such a dark time of her life. It was perfect. However, with each time she visited the world in her dreams, Sara began to pick up on some peculiarities.
These were minute at first, such as a tree losing its leaves, but the anomalies began to become unprecedented as the cancerous tumour in her head worsened. The cancer was poisoning this world, a horrid reminder to Sara that, whilst she could ignore it, the cancer was not going away. Sara's condition worsened as 1977 came to an end, all coming to a head in June of 1978 where she tragically lost her battle with cancer. Although, Sara was not truly gone- not really. Not long after her 'death,' Sara would awaken in her perfect world, only she did not have a physical body anymore; she was a mass of black clouds floating around, unable to do anything.
So, Sara was forced to float around, observing her once-perfect world with a pit in her non-existent stomach. The world had become anything from perfect. Thusly, the Upside Down as we know it was born.
The Upside Down. 1978-79
After being defeated by Eleven during the Hawkins Lab Massacre, Henry woke up in a foreign landscape. It was akin to his own world, only darker. This perplexed him, but it also served as a source of intrigue. Henry would travel far and wide, leaving the confines of Hawkins, heading North East. On his venture through the charred landscape, he would observe hairless creatures wandering around on all fours alongside other peculiarities.
By the time he reached New York, Henry would come to adore the life there; it was untouched by man- a perfect example of the world that he wanted. Finally, Henry would find someone else. It did not look like much of a person, but he could sense a consciousness in those black clouds overhead- someone young, he thought. They were in pain, that much was clear, but how did they end up this way? A floating mass of clouds in a dark reflection of his world- how?
One thing was for certain, though: they were powerful. Henry could sense the sheer power radiating off them, and so he needed to harness it. Using his own abilities to give it a form, Henry would give shape to Sara Hopper, who would later be dubbed as "The Mind Flayer." Over their time together, the naïve Sara would be hoodwinked by the charming Henry, eventually agreeing to help him; not only because the man had charm and a point, but because he helped save her from that catatonic state.
For you see, since Sara created the world, all of the creatures and organisms were connected to her via a hivemind, which meant that she controlled them all. Being on the man's right hand, Sara would control the creatures and tell them exactly what Henry wanted, which would later on lead to the mainline events of Stranger Things.

Wait, so Moon Knight is basically if instead of Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk is if he turned into a Moon Man, but he also had a Venom telling him things to do (being Khonshu)? Like I knew Banner had DID, but I didn’t know it was that simple. Would that work as an explanation from his perspective to a hero team in the future would you think? “I’m like if the Hulk looked like Banner all the time, but could still kick ass?”
So there’s a lot of questions wrapped up in this. So for the sake of this post, I’m going to unthread them and answer them individually.
Also just a caution on some of the language here. I’d advise being a tad more careful with calling either Bruce’s or Marc’s DID simple.
1. Do Hulk and Moon Knight both have DID?
Yes. Both characters have DID. I am unsure as to the exact intricacies of Bruce Banner’s DID as I don’t usually read Hulk comics.
2. Is Moon Knight an alter like Hulk is?
The short answer: not anymore. To make this quick: MK’s DID historically hasn’t always been treated the best. There was a point in time, closer to his inception, that Moon Knight would’ve been the equivalent of what authors today are more readily willing to acknowledge as an alter. However, this is no longer canon, and Moon Knight can be any of the alters (usually Marc, Steven, or Jake) in the suit.
3. Is Khonshu like Venom?
If we’re solely talking MCU, I can see where that comparison comes from. His suit wraps around him and we see Khonshu telling him exactly what to do. This is very different than the comics. In the comics, the suit is much more of a typical superhero suit, usually it is created by Marc himself. Khonshu also usually isn’t there in the middle of battle telling him what to do (though he can be). For comic MK especially, the act of being Moon Knight is much more religious. Khonshu is his god who he prays to and serves. Also, when Khonshu tells Marc what to do, it is usually him being summoned to Khonshu or consulting him. Here’s an example:
Tumblr media
That being said, Marc is still very much sassy towards Khonshu, often doesn’t listen, and can be very upset with having to serve him. Their comic dynamic is much closer to a god (who sees himself as Marc’s true father) and his follower/high priest(who for better or worse, serves his god but isn’t always happy to do so).
Okay, I hope that helped!

I dislike MK's bad writing but it isn't really their job to review old volumes to avoid inconsistencies and dropped plotlines. That's Eddy's task as lore keeper. The constant writing screw ups just means he sucks at his job. Kiersi was brought in because they wanted a woman on the writers team and had prior experience working on LGBT themes so she could help with bmblb. Too bad her books suck and bmblb is still poorly written. So two bad writers hire two other bad writers who fail at their jobs.
see it goes back to them anyways because why is eddy, someone who just came into the show in the 7th volume, being the lorekeeper rather than miles or kerry who not only have been on the show since it’s inception, but were apparently the main writers & helped field monty’s ideas to put them into the show like. yes eddy sucks as a lorekeeper, but they shot themselves in the foot because they put a newcomer in that position instead of doing it themselves lmao.
but hiring kiersi on her status as a queer woman was an absolute farce considering her “little queer book” is chock full of harmful tropes & stereotypes about queer identities that she doesn’t even treat with respect.
it’s pretty much as you said. two hot messes hired two hot messes & none of them can write well or work together well so the final product was always bound to be a steaming pile of shit.

Focke-Wulf FW-190 1940s.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger (English: Shrike) is a German single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft designed by Kurt Tank in the late 1930s and widely used during World War II. Along with its well-known counterpart, the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Focke-Wulf 190 Würger became the backbone of the Luftwaffe's Jagdwaffe (Fighter Force). The twin-row BMW 801 radial engine that powered most operational versions enabled the Fw 190 to lift larger loads than the Bf 109, allowing its use as a day fighter, fighter-bomber, ground-attack aircraft and, to a lesser degree, night fighter.
The Fw 190A started flying operationally over France in August 1941, and quickly proved superior in all but turn radius to the Royal Air Force's main front-line fighter, the Spitfire Mk. V,[3] especially at low and medium altitudes. The 190 maintained superiority over Allied fighters until the introduction of the improved Spitfire Mk. IX.[4] In November/December 1942, the Fw 190 made its air combat debut on the Eastern Front, finding much success in fighter wings and specialised ground attack units called Schlachtgeschwader (Battle Wings or Strike Wings) from October 1943 onwards. The Fw 190 provided greater firepower than the Bf 109, and at low to medium altitude, superior manoeuvrability, in the opinion of German pilots who flew both fighters.
The Fw 190A series' performance decreased at high altitudes (usually 6,000 m (20,000 ft) and above), which reduced its effectiveness as a high-altitude interceptor. From the Fw 190's inception, there had been ongoing efforts to address this with a turbosupercharged BMW 801 in the B model, the much longer-nosed C model with efforts to also turbocharge its chosen Daimler-Benz DB 603 inverted V12 powerplant, and the similarly long-nosed D model with the Junkers Jumo 213. Problems with the turbocharger installations on the -B and -C subtypes meant only the D model would see service, entering service in September 1944. While these "long nose" versions gave the Germans parity with Allied opponents, they arrived far too late in the war to have any real effect.
The Fw 190 was well-liked by its pilots. Some of the Luftwaffe's most successful fighter aces claimed a great many of their kills while flying it, including Otto Kittel, Walter Nowotny and Erich Rudorffer.
